Bastad MD R1: Gonzalo Escobar/Aleksandr Nedovyesov def. Leo Borg/Simon Freund [WC] 6-1, 6-4 Match Highlights + Stats
Tumblr media
🎥 📸 Tennis TV
G. Escobar/Nedovyesov was on another level in this match. Not only they dominated through the service game, they also rallied intuitively until they were able to close a critical point with some winners. The stats reflected the flow in this regard.
Despite Leo/S. Freund landing 70% of their first serves, G. Escobar/Nedovyesov was still able to win 86% of their points from their first serves. Despite neither pair being able to score aces, there was a complete contrast in the second serves where G. Escobar/Nedovyesov was almost flawless there with 92% efficacy, exposing Leo/S. Freund's vulnerability on the second serves by a whopping 54%.
On the other hand, even if Leo/S. Freund tried to open their own gates, the flow was entirely on G. Escobar/Nedovyesov's racquets. This was visible through their break point conversion rate, where they came up with several points through the net (including the volley) to secure that lead, mostly capitalizing on Leo/S. Freund's second serves. As a result, not only they got a 43% break point conversion rate, but their clutch serves also did not give a room for Leo/S. Freund to create or convert their possible chances.
In the quarterfinals, G. Escobar/Nedovyesov will face the winner between Nikola Cacic/Dusan Lajovic and second seeds Sander Gille/Joran Vliegen, who became the runner-up of Roland Garros last May. While it could become a close match, Sandoran would be tricky to be driven off balance, but who knows this balance is necessary next!

David Tennant opened the BAFTAs with a fuzzy swaeater, pride pin and a dog, subjected the cream of Hollywood to a staged skit and gay flirting with Michael Sheen, wore a slutty kilt, insulted trump and nobody else, spoke French, delivered puns like a pro, thirsted over Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal, flirted with Bradley Cooper, wore 3 of the most flamboyant outfits - all which slayed, fanboyed over Michael J Fox and was aggressively Scottish the whole way through
I’m sorry if you’re watching the BAFTAs for any other reason you’re wrong

Saw a mention of "Thief juice: it's a mouth crime" in the Leverage tag and it sparked a glorious thought:
Brewpub menu using con names
A fair number of them look like straight-forward descriptions, nothing notable except perhaps the unusual inclusion of "the" before all of them, e.g., The Cuban Sandwich, The Cherry Pie, and The Apple Pie (most customers don't understand why the apple pie crust vents/decorations sometimes resemble life preservers, but it certainly doesn't occur to them to connect it to the very literal name).
Things turn significantly more confusing for most patrons with other menu items. Customers familiar enough with con-artist lingo recognize some of the established con names enough to figure out the naming theme, and some of them can guess at associations between some of the food and their namesake cons, but for the most part it's a mystery.
"The Fiddle Game" is Eliot's chili, at Parker's insistence. Hardison was initially a little concerned, since the "fiddle" is supposed to be an overvalued item that is actually essentially worthless, and, Parker, maybe we shouldn't be applying that to any of Eliot's food? But after Eliot gruffly cut him off and tried to pretend he wasn't a little choked up about it, Hardison decided not to stand in the way of Parker insights. (And he supposed she had technically named the chili after the con, not the fiddle itself, and the con was solid. A classic.)
No one on staff quite understands the private joke between the owners and head chef about using horsemeat in "The Lost Heir" burger--they all know it's actually bison.
And, finally, one of the most baffling to their clientele is also one of Eliot's few suggestions of non-literal con names for food, and an ongoing good-natured argument between Eliot and Hardison: Splitting a sandwich between two people with sides of soup or salad is "The Vegas Wake-Up Call." (It's like the Cuban Sandwich, but "the boyfriend shows up").
(BTW, for anyone else needing to reference Leverage con names, @glen-reeder compiled a list.)

[Late Post] Pune D SF: N. Sriram Balaji/Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan def. Julian Cash/Henry Patten 6-4, 7-5 Match Recap
Tumblr media
📸 🎥 Jiocinema via Sports 18 India
The other doubles semifinal of Pune 250 had last year's Challenger breakout pair, Julian Cash/Henry Patten, taking the more experienced local pair, N. Sriram Balaji/Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, for a spot in the finals. Knowing both pairs, this would look like a close match, and it delivered in their own way.
While the first set looked like service game-oriented, the rallies were giving intensity right from the first point. Cash/Patten started nervously in between Jeevan/Balaji's hot shots, before Patten's service games came in a clutch for them to hold 1-0. Jeevan/Balaji was aggressively creative with their shot variety, initiating a break point at 2-2 before Jeevan's swift return, followed by Balaji's volley (that ended up pegging Patten) enabled them to break at 3-2. They did not look back since, taking the first set 6-4 after Balaji's unreturned serve.
The second set was more intense than the first when the pressure points kept catching both pairs as the set progressed. Although Cash/Patten's service games were strong, it was not enough to counter the shot construction from Jeevan/Balaji. The raising intensity (including the crowd) was marked by the accuracy of the service games and the finishing point altogether. Oftentimes, it resulted in someone challenging a close call, where a shot that was called out by the line judge was called in electronically, making this match a game of millimeters. The major key in this set was the backhand returns the local commentators dubbed as "The Balaji Backhand." It frequently caught Cash/Patten off-guard, especially when pulled at critical points.
They entered a crucial territory once Jeevan double-faulted for Cash/Patten's set point, which was saved by Jeevan's strong second serves to finally hold at 5-5. The break then came a game later, where Jeevan/Balaji pushed for more reflex-based net exchanges, which left Cash/Patten fewer room to anticipate. An angle winner from Jeevan converted their break point, and an accurate service game from Balaji secured them the match, sealing it with an ace to top it off. A small margin, but minimizing the room for error was another tough task for them to maintain throughout the match.
In the finals, Jeevan and Balaji will face Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen, who defeated the first seeds Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury 7-6(3), 7-6(4) in a fairly similar manner. Knowing both pairs, a highly entertaining match will likely happen, and combining shot variety on return (and point-finishing) and service games consistency (especially on pressure points) will be tested. Definitely worth following as well because of the power of the home crowd.
