I made an artistic masterpeice during science today and I have decided to share my genius with you all today.
I present the peice:
This Rocks my Sphere
I would like to thank my science reliever teacher for suggesting this wonderful pun.
As a closing satement I would like to present the opinion of one of the worlds top art critics:
"Art should question your perception of reality, it should make an impact. This peice does that wonderfully. The clouds contrasting with the beautiful blue sky, the sharp angles of The Rock and the insightful print of the text really gives meaning to the phrase 'This Rocks my Sphere' " - Scarlet Johanson probably
Thank you for listening to my ted talk

Beast Wars II
Lio Convoy
by Takara (2020)
I got this off of BBTS in March 2021 shortly after getting my tax refund and covid checks. I had wanted to get this guy last year however the IRS forgot to give me any of my returns for 2020 or covid checks, so I let it go for the time being.
Lio Convoy is the leader of the Maximals during the 1990′s anime spin off series Beast Wars II. The anime series never made it stateside, bt some of the toys did; I remember picking up the Ultra Class figure of Lio Convoy at a comicbook store I used to go to in Trenton, called Comic Lair. I bought the figure for $100. But that’s enough history for now.
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about this figure.
Collector’s pin:
The collector’s pin is Lio Convoy’s face sculpted on a Matrix.
Collector’s Card:
Lio COnvoy’s collector’s card is him in a cool action pose, and on the back are status and a language which I cannot read.
Beast Mode:
For starters I don’t think I have ever seen a jankier beast mode in my entire life.
The beast mode is trying to capture the anime character model over the 1990′s toy version which has scupted fur texture, and a more realistic lion head.
The MP Lio Convoy has more of an anime look with the expressive eyes, wavy flowing mane, and a significant lack of fur texture...
Unfortunately the beast mode is panel-heavy
Takara is capable of doing so much better than to have hinges on animal tails.
Fun fact: In order to be able to eat larger portions of meat a lion can unhinge its skull from its lower jaw to achieve a wider bite.
Seriously though...the fuck is this? HasTak; what are you doing? Who engineered this?!
The beast mode has deployable weapons, much like the original Lio Convoy, and I assume maybe the anime.
None of the missile launchers are spring loaded, unlike many of the retails toys (but this is a collectors piece)
When is comes to the beast mode I get what the engineers were trying to do, but I don’t think they succeeded.
Choosing the anime model over the toy model wasn’t the best decision, and the engineering could have been better.
As a Beast Wars fan there is an understanding that no beast mode will ever be perfect...it’s just not the same as a robot which turns into a car. For a beast mode you need to cover up the robot mode as best you can, and Lio Convoy fails at that.
All of the panel details, the exposed robo-details, THE HINGE ON THE TAIL, I’m just not a fan.
I might even say that the HasTak team prooooobably phoned this one in...There, I said it...
Transformation:
Transformation was a bit frustrating, but not impossible.
Parts of the transformation is very similar to that of the Ultra Class toy, but the real insanity is the transformation of the lion head. There’s a lot of plastic hinges and thin connectors which should really be made out of di cast metal.
Robot Mode:
On the contrary to the beast mode, Lio Convoy’s robot mode is amazing.
The figure can pose, it can stand, I love the head sculpt; Lio Convoy just has presence and looks great from all angles.
As part of the transformation the lion head pretty much inverts from an organic beast head to a very robotic one for the robot mode. It must have been in the anime series (it certainly wasn’t for the original toy), and I do like it, but it does play a part in the complicated conversion process I mentioned earlier.
The best legs on the forearms can rotate and bi-claws can be deployed for melee weapons.
Lio Convoy does balance well in spite of the bulky shoulder parts.
Lio Convoy has an opening hatch revealing his Energon Matrix.
It’s a simple, but nice sculpt, and you see some nice details even on the hatch.
Accessories:
Lio Convoy comes with some accessories.
the four missiles which can all go into launchers, a hand gun...which just looks out of place (it must have been from the anime series), and a gray missile holder. None of these can blend into the beast mode, unfortunately.
Final Thoughts:
To be honest I’m not entirely sure this was my best purchase. The beast mode is hilariously bad; Takara was trying so hard to capture the anime model when I think they should have tried to keep with the 90′s Ultra Class figure instead. A realistic fur texture would have looked so much better, in my opinion.
Parts of the transformation is a complicated mess and what I fear are some future breakage issues; plastic parts where there should have been metal parts instead.
The robot mode...is a win! I like it. The robot mode is solid, the head sculpt is amazing, though I would be cautious about Convoy’s fingers and hands because the plastic is so thin and appears delicate.
