Broke: The handlers name is Reginald Crane

Woke: The Handlers name is Reginald Mason Crane

Bespoke: The handler is one of those Englishmen with like 10 names so every name he has used in fanfic is canon

#after the name reveal I felt irrationally betrayed about it #rationally I knew that mason probably wasn’t going to be his name since that’s the name of his va #but it should still be a canon name to me because it is said when we reverse his identification from the end of ieytd2 #ieytd #ieytd3 #ieytd3 spoilers #idk when I started writing my fic I was a little gremlin who wanted to get all of the details correct #I realize that my fic has…outgrown canon to become my own version of that world #but I can still make my fic canon compliant to ieytd3 by the end #the name thing was the only thing that might be tough #but Roxana can call him Reginald while Phoenix calls him Mason and it doesn’t detract any meaning from their father/child relationship #doesn’t make them any less close if he wants Phoenix to call him by his middle name #sorry for the rant un the tags #just needed to think through some stuff #the handler

IEYTD 3 spoilers

For those who were crushed by Handler’s name reveal (and were using the Codename Mason) here’s an excuse to not change your fics:

A mason is a stone worker or it can mean to make something out of stone.

So our Handler could absolutely be named Reginald Crane but go by the Codename Mason and could tell Phoenix to call him Mason for privacy reasons, either for safety or personal comfort after working at the EOD for so long.

This is also why I’m not retconning shhhhh
