Isn’t just me that thought Mary and John have Dean and Sam vibes (sibilings vibes) and not romantic ones?
Sometimes we can look that Mary is jealous at Latika or then John is looking at her without being seeing by Mary but there something missing...

I do genuinely love the pilot of Supernatural because like ok first of all here is Sam's dead blonde mom (dressed in white) who gets fridged so hard that her personhood is eaten up by her victimhood and her soul is just used as an engine to generate Righteous Man Pain and Violence. Then Sam and Dean have to go kill a ghost called the WOMAN IN WHITE by, and I cannot stress this enough, TAKING HER HOME, putting her back inside the ruination of her traditional domestic environment to face her furious murdered children, closing the circle of righteous violence which ofc can only occur inside the Home. And then Sam's blonde gf is fridged in the exact same way as his mom (putting Sam in the exact same position as his father whom he loathes) AND SHE'S WEARING WHITE. Jess was not wearing white when she went to bed but she is now which means the demon literally stripped her and redressed her in Sam's mother's clothes. "In the end, all girls are like the rose bride."

Fic in which Mary tries extra hard to bond with Cas to show Dean she supports him and their relationship, except that relationship doesn’t exist in the way she thinks it does and because none of them ever use their words Dean is now faced with the horrifying thought Cas might become his stepdad

do you ever just stop and suddenly remember dean actually and literally called cas “devastatingly handsome” in front of his entire family, like, cmon, boy is so damn whipped for cas it’s glaringly and painfully obvious

The way people hate on the Mary arc of later seasons like "why did Dean have to lose his image of his mom" that was the POINT. Like??? That image he had of his mom was never real! Nobody is that perfect, least of all a traumatized hunter kid who was orphaned at 19 and made a desperate deal to save at least ONE person she lost so she wouldn't be completely alone in the world. The Mary Dean knew and idolized was a fiction cobbled together from grief and a four-year-old's hazy memories. She wasn't real!
And the loss of her is where it all started. All Dean's trauma. All of his hangups and issues and fears began the night Mary died. And to some extent I don't think healing was possible until he fully grappled with the fact that his mom was just a PERSON. Not a saint on a pedestal he should worship and sacrifice everything for and could never live up to.
Like!!! Sooooo many of Dean's Issues started with her death and the way John turned her into a martyred saint to justify his actions. Dean was mourning for a woman who didn't even exist and an idea of a perfect life he never would have had! His "perfect mom?" Their "perfect family?" Never. Existed. That's literally the point. He was never going to be able to love any life he could have if he was always comparing it to some impossible idea of perfection that was never even possible.
Sorry but Amara was right, he needed that false idol to be shattered.

the thing about supernatural is that if it wasnt written the way that it was and sidelined every single character that wasnt sam or dean and actually fucking cared about the side characters with archs and real depth and didnt kill off every single character they redeemed was that it couldve been good. like the supernatural that exists in my head is a million times better than this hot garbage on a plate of a show
edit: it would appear a solid half of you entirely missed my point
edit 2: those of you making this about ship discourse you SUCK

HOT take but I am rotating a 27-year-old Mary in my mind, who isn't really fit for motherhood and doesn't stick around- but who blows through the bunker every once in a while with a group of rowdy young hunters and shitty gas station souvenirs, cleans her gun at the kitchen table, calls dean "baby", and leaves

‘‘this didn’t happen and that didn’t happen and it shouldn’t have happened like that it should have happened like this and blah blah blah.’‘
listen.
you know what did happen?
dean saved mary. for his entire life, that was the one thing he wanted to do more than anything and the one thing he never could. all he ever wanted to do was just save his mom. for once. for once.
and tonight he did.
in this world, she gets to live. in this world, they get to be happy. is that not enough?

being a woman in Supernatural world is so fucking horrifying. don't wear white, you will get fridged. don't be blonde, you will get fridged. Jessica Moore was forcibly stenciled into Mary Winchester's shape to turn the narrative engine of righteous violence. she's the inciting incident for the entire epic and we know literally nothing about her. bc why would we need to. the wife is the sister is the daughter is the mother and they're all dead, and they're all used as instruments to give men an excuse to cry. you can love a man and take him into your home for a year but you'll still never get close enough to touch him bc he's keeping you in a pristine little box of unsullied domesticity. he's keeping you SAFE and CLEAN. he's making arrangements for you. and when the narrative machine beckons he will set you gently back down and return to his real and important work. don't be a virgin, virgins get fridged. don't be a hellbitch, here comes the fridge. do NOT put on that white nightgown, that is the uniform of the fridge, but it's too late, you're already bleeding out on the ceiling, maybe you always have been.

My fave thing about Jack on rewatch was realizing how internally unlike Sam he is, despite the symbolic, structural blocks of being a “gifted kid.” Emotionally? Nah.
Not if you’re paying attention.
I feel like @dawg-motif really helped me puzzle that out re: Jack’s valuation of blunt honesty and need for space and processing. And after that, it’s like Jack’s entire arc clicked into place for my brain.
There is such a temptation in fandom to assume he’s a copy-pasta of Sam because of his “doomed child” motif, or that he’s like Cas because of his literal-mindedness and sass. But emotionally? Not even close.
Or worse, there can be as assumption that his “performing!Jack” is how how he actually feels about things... Falling for Jack’s sunshiney ditzy act is like falling for Dean’s mythical Marlboro man act.
