Summer reading ... she fought her battles from brain hemorrhage to depression. I can relate to her story, it’s like reading myself through her words. All the therapy she had to go through, learning all over again step by step ...

It’s supposed to be for summer reading only but I was confronted by her ordeal that is so real that I cannot finish the book. It’s heavy for me to read especially with what I have. My emotions got in the way all the time ... It’s HEFTIG!!!

In het huis aan de Bergweg in Rotterdam hoor ik haar voor het eerst, in het huis van mijn broer, die daar woont sinds hij getrouwd is met zijn vrouw. In het huis met de trapleuning van touw en de rode vloerbedekking en de lamp van Naum Gabo, die ook het Ding voor de Bijenkorf heeft ontworpen. Ja, mijn broer heeft smaak en is kunstzinnig. Hij heeft ook een enorme volière in huis.

Makelaar van Schagen by Martine Bijl (Translation: the realtor from Schagen) It’s a very cheerful story of a woman who found a little rundown cottage in the forest for sale, which she just goes to live in after cleaning it up. Then the dude who’s selling the house shows up. And he’s cute. So she does what anyone would do and marries him. So now the little rundown cottage isn’t for sale anymore and it’s very cute and you should all go listen, even if you don’t speak dutch.

26. does your nationality get portrayed in Hollywood/American media? what do you think about the portrayal?

Uhm… not a lot, I think. Americans seem to have trouble identifying anything more than Amsterdam and even then they’re not sure if that might be in Belgium or Scandinavia. It’s always a delight to see movies include Dutch characters though, generally they’re handled quite well.

29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country?

We’re tiny and overpopulated. We have beef with everyone. But mostly we band together to make fun of the Belgians (and they of us)
