Royal Makeover (A Mao Mao X self insert fic)

Hey y’all so I felt like writing a cute lil fic of Kiyomi x Mao Mao! Enjoy!

A loud roar shook the ground as another monster was attacking Pure Heart Valley.

It wasn’t long before the town was plunged into chaos!

Sweetiepyes ran amok! Cars crashed!

Even a few fires broke out!

Everyone was panicking and fleeing for shelter.

Everyone except Queen Kiyomi.

Despite the horrific situation, Kiyomi was squealing with excitement!

For whenever a monster appeared, Sheriff Mao Mao would follow suit!

Kiyomi took a moment to check her makeup and make a few adjustments to her look.

Just as she put away her compact, she felt a massive hand clamp around her body.

Kiyomi let out a yelp as the monster thrusted her towards its gaping maw.

And yet, even when met with a ravenous beast, Kiyomi couldn’t help but feel a twinge of excitement.

For just overhead she head a familiar battle cry!

“RELEASE THE QUEEN YOU FOWL BEAST!”

Mao Mao leapt off his Aerocycle and landed squarely on the monster’s head, causing its mouth to shut before Kiyomi could even enter it.

Kiyomi’s heart fluttered as she let out delighted squeal.

SHINK!

With just a quick swipe of his sword, Mao Mao cut across the monster’s fist.

The monster let out a pained roar as it immediately dropped Kiyomi.

Wasting no time, Mao Mao put his sword away and dove after Kiyomi.

“Gotcha!” He chuckled as Kiyomi landed safely in his arms

Kiyomi’s face burned pink as crazed giggle escaped her throat.

She couldn’t help but cling to Mao Mao as he swiftly brought her down to safety.

It took everything she had not to shower his face with kisses as Mao Mao gently released her.

Kiyomi wobbled to her feet as she watched Mao Mao leap back into action.

POW!

SHINK!

SWIPE!

Mao Mao and his friends made quick work of the monster!

“LUNAR LASH!”

Mao Mao’s sword burned brighter than the sun as he made his final move.

SLICE!

Within seconds, the monster was reduced to nothing but ash and dust.

Kiyomi nearly fainted as she watched the whole battle unfold!

Mao Mao truly was a legendary hero!

At least in Kiyomi’s thirsty eyes.

Kiyomi let out a dopey giggle as she struggled to keep her balance.

“Are you alright, my Queen?”

The sound of Mao Mao’s concerned voice snapped Kiyomi back to reality.

“Oh! Oh yes! I’m more than alright! Thank you for saving me, sheriff! You’re my hero!” Kiyomi giggled as she pulled him into a tight hug.

Mao Mao’s face flushed a bit as he let out a nervous chuckle.

As much as he appreciated Kiyomi’s gratitude, there was work to be done!

Mao Mao cleared his throat as he quickly exited the hug.

“Good! Good! Yes! Glad you’re alright! Now I’ve just gotta…you know check for more…damage.”

And with that, Mao Mao scurried off with his friends.

Kiyomi let out a dreamy sigh as she waved him goodbye.

“What a dreamboat~”

Not too long after, Mao Mao was back at HQ, training vigorously in the dojo.

POW!

SHINK!

BAM!

He threw his fists and swung his sword!

He flung shukurins and fired furious kicks.

It wasn’t long before the training dummy he was using split at the seams with a loud

RIP!

Mao Mao let out a triumphant laugh.

“Another flawless victory!”

“WOOO!!! YEAH!!! GO MAO MAO!!!”

A familiar voice cheered from the trees

Mao Mao didn’t even bat an eye.

He’d been hearing those far off cheers for weeks now and already had a pretty good feeling who they belonged to.

He simply flexed and chuckled,

“I know, I know, I’m amazing!”

The cheering only grew louder the more Mao Mao boasted.

BEEP! BEEP!

The chime of a nearby timer cut the session to a halt.

“Looks like training time’s up. I’ll continue this tomorrow!”

Mao Mao dried his sweat with a towel as he walked back inside.

Meanwhile, high up in a nearby tree, was a very excited Kiyomi with a pair of binoculars in hand.

She let out another dreamy sigh before-

“WOAH!”

THUD!

Kiyomi tumbled out of the tree and landed square on her bottom.

“Ah Kiyomi, there you are! We’ve been looking everywhere for you!” King Snugglemange huffed.

“Oh! Hi King Snugglemange! Don’t worry you’ve found me!” Kiyomi chirped as she jumped to her feet.

“Right…. Listen, I know you’ve been well…dead for the past 100 years or so but times have changed! A queen mustn’t go around climbing trees and peeping on peasants! It’s creepy..” King Snugglemange chided.

“Oh c’mon! Can you blame me?! I mean have you seen Mao Mao?” Heart bubbles practically floated around her head- “what a man!”

King Snugglemange simply rolled his eyes.

“Honestly, Kiyomi if you truly want the sheriff’s attention then you’re going to have to act more like a proper Queen!”

Kiyomi’s eyes lit up as a squeal escaped her throat.

“Really?! If I act like a proper Queen, Mao Mao would like me?!”

“Yes. And most of the public will too.”

Kiyomi bowed before Snugglemange.

“Show me the way!”

And with that, Kiyomi and Snugglemange headed back to the castle.

“First things first! You must do away with those tacky old rags!” King Snugglemange announced as he gestured to Kiyomi’s clothes.

“Tacky old rags?”

“QUINTEN!”

With a clap of Snugglemange’s paws, Quinten came trotting in and led Kiyomi to the royal bathtub.

After being throughly washed and dried, Kiyomi was dragged off into a large dressing room.

After a few minutes of struggling and screaming, Kiyomi came stumbling out in a lovely gold and purple gown, matching heels, and a veil attached to her crown that just barely concealed her face.

“Excellent! Now that you look the part! It’s time for you to act the part!” Snugglemange chirped

King Snugglemange spent the next few hours rigorously training Kiyomi into being the perfect queen.

Kiyomi hated every minute of it.

From the painful heels to all the dumb social rules she had to follow, Kiyomi felt like she was dying!

However, the thought of impressing Mao Mao kept her going strong!

It wasn’t long before her training was completed!

“I do believe you’re ready now!” King Snugglemange cheered.

The town oohed and ahhed as they watched Kiyomi strut out with her new makeover.

However, instead of her usual cheerful greetings, she simply smiled and said softly.

“Thank you all for your kindness.”

Kiyomi tried not to trip as she followed Snugglemange’s lead.

As if on cue, Mao Mao and his friends were making their way into town.

“Hi Mao Mao!!-“ -Kiyomi cleared her throat and calmed her voice- “I mean, Good Morning, Sheriff.”

Mao Mao’s jaw dropped!

For a moment he didn’t even recognize Kiyomi!

She went from a spunky ball of glitter and chaos, to a calm, muted, royal.

Despite how beautiful she looked, Mao Mao wasn’t sure if he liked the new Kiyomi.

Nevertheless, Mao Mao braced himself for a flurry of excited chatter.

However the chatter never came.

Instead he was met with a soft smile and silence.

Mao Mao felt a twinge of sadness in his heart.

Was Kiyomi alright? Where was her usual sparkle?

Mao Mao cleared his throat.

“My Queen, um are you…feeling alright?”

Kiyomi gave Mao Mao a surprised look.

That wasn’t the reaction she was hoping for!

Nevertheless Kiyomi returned to her stoic composure.

“I’m feeling perfectly fine, Sheriff. How are you this fine morning?”

Mao Mao didn’t believe that for a second.

There was no way Kiyomi was alright! Clearly she must’ve been under some kinda spell!

Yeah! That had to be it!

Mao Mao opened his mouth to speak but Adorabat beat him to it.

“Hi Queen Kiyomi!!! Why are you so quiet? Is something making you sad? Tell me what it is and I’ll mess it up real good!”

Kiyomi let out a soft giggle

“Don’t worry, little one. I’m not sad. I’m simply taking my responsibility as Queen more seriously.”

Mao Mao and his friends exchanged quizzical looks.

“You see, I realize I haven’t been behaving the way a proper Queen should. And for that, I sincerely apologize.” Kiyomi continued with an apologetic bow.

“But you don’t have to be sorry! We like-“ Adorabat was cut off by King Snugglemange.

“Isn’t she much more pleasant now? No more of that loud squealing and what not?”

“What did you do to her?!” Mao Mao growled as he folded his arms.

“Oh relax, Sheriff. We simply taught her some manners. It took quite a lot of work but now, Queen Kiyomi is finally behaving properly!” King Snugglemange giggled as he clapped his paws.

Mao Mao was about to reply but Snugglemange cut him off.

“Anyway, as much as we’ve enjoyed this conversation, Queen Kiyomi and I must get ready for afternoon tea! Come along now!”

And with a single gesture of his paw, Kiyomi followed King Snugglemange back to the castle.

Mao Mao let out a low growl as he watched them walk away.

“King Snugglemange, I have a question for you.” Kiyomi said as she looked down at her tea.

“Hm? Whatever is the matter, Queen Kiyomi?”

“Are you sure this is the way to get the Sheriff to notice me? He seemed rather…upset this morning..”

King Snugglemange simply chuckled.

“Oh Ho, my dear Queen the sheriff is always grumpy! You’re doing wonderfully! Just wonderfully! I’m certain he appreciates your proper attitude!”

“I do hope so..” Kiyomi muttered as she sipped her tea.

As the day went on, Kiyomi continued to follow the rules, quietly and elegantly.

Mao Mao was already missing Kiyomi’s usual antics.

From bringing him little trinkets she made, to rambling about her interests.

It felt as if Kiyomi had disappeared despite her only being in the castle a few miles away.

It all came to a boiling point when training time came.

Mao Mao did his usual routine but no cheers followed.

He looked over to the trees.

Not even a peep.

Mao Mao gritted his teeth and let out an enraged growl.

At the sound of his whistle, Mao Mao’s Aerocycle came zooming to his side.

He then put on his helmet and made he way towards the castle.

He didn’t care what King Snugglemange wanted, he was going to free Kiyomi from her prison of politeness one way or another.

BLAM!

BOOM!

Mao Mao had hopped off his Aerocycle and kicked on the doors of the palace.

“Goodness, Sheriff! Whatever is the meaning of-“

King Snugglemange was cut off by a furious Mao Mao.

“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH QUEEN KIYOMI?!”

“Sheriff! We’ve already told you! I’ve taught her to behave like a proper Queen!” Snugglemange huffed as he pushed Mao Mao away from him.

“No! What you actually did was brainwash her into being some kind of…polite…zombie! I swear-”

Mao Mao’s rampage was cut off by the sound of Kiyomi sniffling.

As soon as he turned around to face her, Kiyomi had already bolted out the door in tears.

“Oh now look what you did-OW! RUDE!”

Mao Mao dropped Snugglemange and chased after Kiyomi.

“My Queen! Wait!”

Unfortunately Kiyomi had already darted out of town.

She ran and ran until she made her way into a nearby cave.

It didn’t take long for Mao Mao to find Kiyomi, as her cries echoed throughout the cave.

“I don’t understand! I thought he would like me better this way! Why is he so mad?” Kiyomi choked out between sobs.

Mao Mao felt his heart sink as he slowly crept forward.

Sure enough, there was Kiyomi, sitting upon a rock with her tears pouring into the moon pool beneath it.

“Who am I kidding? I don’t think Mao Mao will ever like me…”

In that moment, Mao Mao felt like he was shot in the chest!

“What?! What are you even talking about?!”

Kiyomi let out a startled yelp and almost fell into the moon pool!

“Mao Mao- I mean sheriff! What are you- How long have you-”

“I literally saw you run off crying. I had to make sure you were ok!” Mao Mao insisted as he came into the light.

“Oh… don’t worry-” -Kiyomi sniffled and dried away a few tears- “-I’m fine. Everything thing is-”

“No you’re not fine! Nothing about this is fine! That’s why I wanted to talk to you today! You’ve been acting like all the life’s been sucked out of you for days now! I just…I just wanted to get the old Kiyomi back.” Mao Mao confessed

Kiyomi felt her heart flutter in her chest.

“Wait really? You….you actually like the old Kiyomi?”

“Of course I do! The old Kiyomi was brilliant, witty, beautiful! There was no one else like her.” Mao Mao explained dramatically.

A few more tears poured down Kiyomi’s cheeks.

“Really? You don’t think I’m creepy or weird?”

“No! Of course not! I lov- I mean I enjoy your quirks! They make you well… You” Mao Mao spluttered as he rubbed the back of his head.

That was all Kiyomi needed to hear.

She kicked off her heels, ripped off her veil, and dove into Mao Mao’s arms.

“You have no idea how happy that makes me, Mao Mao!”

Mao Mao’s face flushed for a moment as he let out a chuckle.

“Yes, yes-” -Mao Mao cleared his throat and gently put Kiyomi down- “-A-Anyhow, we, uh, should probably get going back to the castle now.”

“Lead the way, Sheriff!”
