Watching Jantje and Bo obviously wanting Andreas while pretending they're not and then sit around anxiously waiting for an opportunity to call him that's not so immediate as to raise suspicion like some lovestruck teen is very entertaining
From the clip of Emily Beecham's audition tape, we know an earlier version of the script contained an introduction between Eyk and Maura on the bridge deck in episode 1.
He introduced himself to her simply: "Eyk. Eyk Larsen."
In turn, she said, "Maura… Franklin." And then, seeming to realize who he was, "You're the captain."
I love that the exchange of names didn't make it into the episode. First, no intro suggests some existing familiarity between them; no introductions are required when you already know someone, although clearly they don't remember having met before.
Second, Maura only ever calls him "Eyk" to his face for the rest of the season. That wouldn't be meaningful if he had introduced himself that way to her. But because he never did, it serves as an indication of some kind of personal relationship between them. She's never, ever formal with him - not even early on.
Third, Eyk does not refer to Maura by name at their first meeting on deck, nor when she comes to his quarters. It's at their third interaction that he finally addresses her by name as "Miss Franklin." Since she never introduced herself to him, he must have learned her name in some other way. (This is the same interaction where he's sought her out, wanting to know why she's not hungry and whether it's true that she studied medicine.)
Taken together, it suggests that he got curious about her after she came to his quarters, and took a break from drinking and looking at his family photo to do some sleuthing. That pretty red-haired woman who invites herself where she doesn't belong. What's her name? Intrigued by what he learned, and wanting to know more, he found his way out of the numbness of grief and alcohol to see her again.

The absolutely insane meta of the production of 1899 being about creating an environment that immerses the actors and looks as close to reality as possible while being run through a computer program. They created what is essentially the first step towards a fully immersive simulation to create the show Netflix I am going to murder you
I love the Making 1899 documentary because it's like. "Here's the background on Bo and Jantje. They work together perfectly, and they're smooching because they're in love. And here's the background on Eyk and Maura. They work together perfectly, but they're 'not falling in love at first glance.' Wink."
