Two PNW tribal nations sue oil companies over costs of climate change

Major oil companies for decades deliberately sought to downplay and discredit scientific warnings about the central role of fossil fuels in causing climate change, alleges two lawsuits filed this week by the Makah and Shoalwater Bay tribes.

The lawsuits filed in King County Superior Court name ExxonMobil, BP, Shell, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and Phillips 66 as defendants, and seek compensation for the millions of dollars already spent, and likely to be spent in the future, for the tribes to respond to climate-induced disasters such as extreme heat, drought, wildfire, shoreline erosion, sea level rise and flooding.

The lawsuits allege the companies have known fossil fuels would cause catastrophic climate change since at least 1959, but continued marketing massive quantities of oil and gas. They allege the oil companies tried to mislead the public by funding op-eds and advertisements in Seattle and national newspapers that claimed the science of climate change was uncertain or lacking evidence.

The complaints outline the companies’ research and misleading marketing around their products’ role in causing climate change and the sea level rise, extreme weather, public health harms and other climate effects on the tribes and their lands.

With both the Makah and Shoalwater Bay reservations on the Pacific Ocean, they are particularly vulnerable to sea level rise, the lawsuits state. Both tribes have already incurred the costs of moving their citizens to higher ground, and ocean acidification “at an alarming rate” from burning fossil fuels has endangered the tribes’ coastal ecosystems and economy, according to the lawsuits.

“We are seeing the effects of the climate crisis on our people, our land, and our resources. The costs and consequences to us are overwhelming,” said Makah Tribal Council Chair Timothy J. Greene, Sr. in a statement. “We intend to hold these companies accountable for hiding the truth about climate change and the effects of burning fossil fuels. And we aim to force them to help pay for the high costs of surviving the catastrophe caused by the climate crisis.”

The lawsuits also cite a report by the Climate Impacts Group at the University of Washington that suggests with global warming of at least 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050, Washington is projected to experience a 67% increase in the number of days per year above 90 degrees, relative to 1976-2005, leading to an increased risk of heat-related illness and death, warmer streams and more frequent algal blooms.

The report also found warming would fuel a decrease of 38% in snowpack, relative to 1970-99, leading to reduced water storage, irrigation shortages, and winter and summer recreation losses, as well as increases in winter streamflow, decreases in summer streamflow, leading to reduced summer hydropower, conflicts over water resources and negative effects on salmon.

“These oil companies knew their products were dangerous, yet they did nothing to mitigate those dangers or warn any of us about them, for decades,” said Shoalwater Bay Chair Charlene Nelson in a written statement. “Now we are facing hundreds of millions of dollars in costs to relocate our community to higher ground and protect our people, our property, and our heritage. These companies need to be held accountable for that.”

The tribes bring their claims under Washington’s Products Liability Act for failure to warn, misrepresentation and intentional concealment. The complaints request jury trials, and ask the court to order the companies to create a fund to be managed by the tribes to remediate and adapt reservation lands, natural resources and infrastructure to climate change.

Animal Bodies, Colonial Subjects: (Re)Locating Animality in Decolonial Thought

"Similar to the ways in which Indigenous peoples can undergo a violent process through which we rid our colonial mentalities, I argue that animals can be liberated from their colonized subjecthood through an aided 'process of desubjectification'. That is, thinking through animality as an infrastructure of decolonization re-positions animal bodies as agents of anti-colonial resurgence.They can consequently engender 'forms of energy that are capable of engaging the forces that keep [Indigenous people and animals] tied to [a] colonial mentality and reality'. Settler colonialism has therefore required the normalization of speciesism within Indigenous communities to obfuscate the radicality of Indigenous-animal relations. In that sense, recalling the representation of animals in Indigenous cosmologies/oral traditions and unsettling speciesism as a 'colonial mentality' must be prioritized in decolonial thought..."

Black Flag Vol. 3, No. 2

Dissent From Within: The Hidden Story of the Anti-Whaling Members of the Makah Tribe

This zine was put together not only to honor the memory of Mahak whale protector Alberta Nora Thomspson, but also to commemorate the story of resistance surrounding the Makah anti-whaling warriors whose very existence has been (intentionally) hidden from the world. Their dissenting voices silenced by the powers of intimidation, patriarchy, and a capitalist pursuit disguised as "traditional hunting". For many outside of the situation, the narrative most widely accepted is one that reduces the situation to mere identity politics; White animal rights activists vs Indigenous people. Indigenous writer Linda Hogan and Seattle writer Brenda Peterson journeyed to Neah Bay to interview Makah elders who were breaking the silence about this narrative and speaking out against their tribeâ€™s return to whaling.

Kaimangatanga: MÄori Perspectives on Veganism and Plant-based Kai

Living in an Earthquake: The Fight Against Cop City Confronts Unprecedented Repression

"In the following account and analysis, participants in the movement in Atlanta trace its trajectory from the fifth Week of Action that began on March 4, 2023 through the City Council vote of June 5.

At first, it appeared to be an ordinary forest defense campaign aimed at discouraging Atlanta city government from pouring money into an unpopular police training facility. But over the past two years, the fight against Cop City has escalated into one of the fiercest struggles of the Biden era, pitting a wide range of courageous people against a united front of politicians, prosecutors, and police.

In setting out to stop the militarization of police, activists have discovered that they are challenging the state on a point that all of its representatives consider non-negotiable. Police and prosecutors have pressed trumped-up domestic terrorism charges against almost every defendant arrested since last December; they have killed one forest defender; they have charged those engaged in legal support for the arrestees."

Of Diets and Morality: A Vegan Egoist Perspective

The title summarizes this well. It's a vegan egoist text that argues for seeing animals as having inherent value. A quote:

"Animals can offer me many things that other "humans" can not; new ways of communicating, of perceiving the world around me; the unique, aesthetic pleasure of their appearance, especially the details that one only notices with familiarity, and the mystery, intrigue and exciting unexpectedness of beings so morphologically and genetically different from myself! Security Culture: Building Relationships of Trust and Care

These zine provides an accessible introduction to security culture and its place in social movements. Beyond the basics, it explores how security culture can be informed by kinship, an Indigenous value system based on responsibility, vulnerability, trust, and reciprocity. You: *wears a rosewood and silver wedding ring and works the wood shop connected to the Quileute community center*

Sam: *spots of grey hair, leads a tourist group* this is (Y/n), she is also a wildlife conservationist, our youngest tribal leader and she’s good with a wood saw.

You: *head nod towards Sam*

Sam: *leads the group away*

Leah: *walks in from office* I would’ve never thought Sam would lead tourist

You and Leah: *snickers*

You: it’s a good look on him, probably gives him a break from his sons

Leah: if anyone needs the break it’s Paul

You: I do not know how Rachel popped out three kids at the same time. At least Jared and Kim have one.

Leah: they’re trying again

You: I hope it’s a girl… the pack seems so much better without the Cullen’s here

Leah: everyone’s fine. Seth and the others work with Rosalie and Embry says all is well at the Makah tribe. Though Quil and Claire had a huge fight recently.

You: Yeah, he stayed at mine and Rosalie’s place last night. the girl is running him into the ground.

Leah: how is Rosalie?

You: she keeps herself busy. Running her auto-shop and being a nighttime nanny. The Cullens do a collective video call a week, it’s fun seeing those guys try to figure out how technology works. It must be weird for Bella and Edward having an ex lover pine for their daughter

Leah: yeah, but not our problem. Some higher power’s punishment for him, you know Jacob’s always going to love Bella even if he did imprint on Rensesmee.

You: *growls* don’t remind me. I can’t believe my idiot of a brother was about to hurt my wife!

Leah: okay *takes carving knife out of your hand*

You and Leah: *sits in silence*

You: who would’ve known we would be the last man standing

Leah: yeah about that… I. Well with your permission-

You: *sighs* you don’t need my permission to stop phasing Leah, I’m surprised you stayed this long

Leah: we’ll it was mainly for selfish reasons… We are suppose to be old crone buddies… and I know about your worries of seeing the pack, your family, grow older

You: *puts down your wolf carving and hugs her* you don’t have to worry about me. You deserve a life of your own and you know I’ll always be here. Plus this would be a good reason to pull the pack together!

You and Leah: *running Leah’s final patrol together and reaches the path towards Sam and Emily’s house*

The Pack: *stands in their ceremonial shifter capes*

Sue: *holds a ceremonial shifter cape for Leah*

Sam: *holds ceremonial beads*

Leah: ‘Thank you (Y/n)’

You: *nods*

Leah: *shifts back to human facing away from the boys*

Sue: *drapes the cape over her, in Quileute language* the ancestors, the elders, the pack and the spirits above thank you for your service in protecting the tribe

Sam: *puts beads on Leah, in Quileute language* These beads restore your cultural ties and spiritual beliefs, may the great wolf spirit forever guide and protect you.

The Pack: *wolf pack call chirps*

You: *howls and runs the patrol path to the end*

Rosalie: *walks up to you and brushes your fur with her fingers* this one is different isn’t it

You: *shifts back into her arms and cries*

You and Rosalie: *makes it back to Sam and Emily’s

Leah: *hands you an envelope and winks* you’ve done a lot for the tribe

You and Rosalie: *confused*

Paul: and for the pack

Embry: we wanted to make sure you could have anything you could have possibly wanted

Sam: Leah and Carlisle have been in contact

Jared: we were all in agreement

Quil: it’s a thank you gift

Seth: for you and Rosalie

You: *opens it, reads the letter from Carlisle and tears up*

Rosalie: *reads it from behind your shoulder and gasps* this will work?

Leah: you’d have to stop shifting for a bit. And your kid would hold the shifter gene. They’ll stop aging like Rensemee, they won’t be venomous and will have a human diet

Rosalie: *throws her arms around Leah* thank you! Thank you!

Paul: if there’s anyone to deserve this it’s you two. Plus we will spoil them to be like us so you won’t miss us too much

You: Alice, we don’t need a gender reveal!

Alice: I can’t hear you

You: Carlisle tell her we don’t need a gender reveal. Rosalie is a woman, I’m a woman. We only have X chromosomes! I don’t care that we have 24 pairs of chromosomes that doesn’t mean we carry the Y chromosome!

Rosalie: doll you need to calm down.

You: I will calm down when Alice is reined in. *whines* why aren’t you stopping her

Rosalie: sometimes you just let it happen.

Edward: *across the room* Rosalie thinks it’s cute seeing you waddle around after Alice

You: I do not waddle

Leah: you kind of do.

You: *glares*

Sue and Charlie: *enters*

Sue: *hugs you* congratulations

Alice: *skips over to you and hands you a photo*

You: *gasps*

Rosalie: *snaps at Alice* where did you get this!

You: Babe! You’re so cute as a baby!

Alice: I have my ways! I have more of these if you let me do a gender reveal

You: *cooes*

Rosalie: No, we don’t need a gender reveal *pulls you away*

You: but there’s more! You got to see my baby photos!

The Cullens and The Pack: *playing baby shower games*

Rosalie: *looks around for you and walks away from the group* doll?

You: *looks at the Guess who baby board, smiles and caresses your baby belly*

Rosalie: your smile says you’re happy but your eyes tell a different story *hugs you*

You: I love you, and I love the family we are building but

Rosalie: but we will always be like this, frozen.

You: yeah… how did you do it? Live knowing you’re the last to remember your family, your home?

Rosalie: spite… I also have my sister with me

You: *chuckles* sounds like you

Rosalie: someone doesn’t truly die until they are forgotten

You: it feels heavy

Rosalie: *lifts your belly*

You: I was speaking metaphorically but this helps too

Rosalie: *hums* yes but you won’t be carrying those memories on your own*

Billy has been transcribing everything going on with the pack since you guys shifted. I’ve kept a diary since I was old enough to write.

You: and I’m just knowing about it now? Baby we’ve been married 10 years, together for 11… Anything I should know about? Perhaps about a certain female shifter?

Rosalie: hush you. *slowly lets go of your belly*

You: *groans*

Rosalie: I’ll help you remember them. I promise. *leaves multiple kisses on your face*

Quinn: I found them!

This week I was lucky enough to enjoy a boat ride around Cape Flattery, WA courtesy of the Makah Indian Tribe and took a ton of pictures of Cascadia's impressive geology and Tefnut's beautiful blessing of waters in so many forms!

Hi, I'm doing a "revamped" AU of Twilight Saga and I was thinking about the issues that SMeyer created by using a real tribe in the Quileutes (would Makah be included in this case?) Do you think it would've been better if there's a fictional tribe neighboring both the Quileutes and the Makah? A Native American tribe with the "facts and history" from canon, including a broader definition of imprinting, the "promise/commitment jewelry", etc. I mean, aside from racist implications, would this somehow be better than what SMeyer did?

I think fictional would be better because then at least you're not co-opting and re-writing a real tribe's history and mythology. The Quileute's wouldn't have to have a website to correct people's misconceptions at least. But it's still not great because of the tropes involved in SM's style of werewolves. You've still got the 'Magical Indian' trope, you've still got 'the rich white vampires are sophisticated and in control but the Indigenous characters literally turn into animals when they are upset' thing going on, you'd still have the racist implications of white people calling native characters "mutts" and "mongrels" which is . . . bad. It's all bad.

As I've said before--a lot of this is typical of vampire/werewolf rivalry stories! It's usually Rich Sophisticated Vampires and Poor Wild Werewolves and they call each other bloodsuckers and mutts and whatever. But because SM made her vampires all white (literally! even the vampires who were POC look super pale as vampires per canon, although the movies and most of the fans throw that right in the garbage) AND her 'werewolves' (who are not actually werewolves) all Native American, you can't escape the racism here.

Personally I think the way to 'fix' this is to make it not tied to any native identity. Maybe the shapeshifting ability is passed down in families but they aren't all Indigenous families. Maybe other families also have those abilities and those stories about vampires and the Cullens, too. It's great to have Indigenous characters in a contemporary YA fantasy series! The concept of Jacob as a romantic lead is pretty great on its surface! The execution just leaves a whole lot to be desired. Jacob being a werewolf BECAUSE of his heritage ends up othering Indigenous people, making them something other than entirely human which given their dehumanization throughout history is terrible. But if Jacob were a werewolf who just happened to be Native American that would help.

Your "other tribes show up to merk the Cullens" post is golden and I know you were just sharing a fun thought, but now I'm invested and trying to figure out the logistics. Passing on the wolf shapeshifting? Give the cullens poisoned animals to drink? Put Bella in a booby trap and wait? Where there's a will there's a way

Twilight lore limits wolf shape-shifting to the Quileute but honestly I think there's others out there in addition to other magical stuff so tbh they could take them. I just picthred them warning other ppl since the Cullens were like on the move fod different places right? & they ended up back in Washington, so they'd just wait until they happened upon them. They make some phone calls. Maybe they hire the Makah as assassins & kill them while they're in Forks thuf4cztf

you can find the werewolf lore at the top of this jacob headcanon post .

nothing much is known by anyone - even embry - about his father . his mother was always very tight-lipped on the subject and pretty early on embry learned not to ask any questions because of how sad it made her when he did . he got the rare christmas or birthday card but they were never signed & he kind of assumed his mother sent them when she could to make him feel better about not having a dad .

when embry was eight , his mom moved them to la push . everyone in the tribe assumed that his dad was left back in makah and embry never commented . for all he knew , his dad was in makah and had just never contacted them . he got very used to letting people come to their own conclusions - but he never let anyone say anything bad about his mom . in fact , it got him into a few tussles over the years .

despite the random fighting , embry was a good kid . he was quiet and sensitive and tried his best not to make things hard on his mom . he hated anytime he caused her worry or stress because she worked so hard to provide for them . she never remarried - always claiming he was the only man in her life . so , embry did what he could to be the man of the house and take care of things so she wouldn't have to .

because his mom worked so much , embry was often home alone . this didn't bother him - although he missed his mom he enjoyed the privacy - and often he would wander on the beach when he was done with chores or homework . it was on one of these trips that he met jacob black & quil ateara . the three became friends quickly . jacob was the funny , loud one . quil was the rebellious , trouble - making one , and embry was the quiet , responsible one . the two boys were embry's first ever friends & he enjoyed their company more than he ever let on .

things were happy for embry before he phased . he had his friend group , his mom was in a pretty good place having found a steady job at a doctor's office in town , and he was college bound in a few years - planning to go somewhere close to home on a scholarship so he could still help his mom . and then he phased after an unnatural argument with his mom one evening when he got back after curfew . luckily , she had stormed out before he wolfed out but it still took hours for the pack to calm him down & get him phased back . he practically ruined his bedroom in the process .

afterwards , life got weird . embry had to avoid his friends for their safety and to keep the secret from them . he didn't mind being a wolf - he enjoyed having a bigger purpose - but he didn't want his friends to go through it either so he hoped they wouldn't end up phasing even if it meant losing them forever .

on another hand , embry was having a bit of an identity crises . it occurred to everyone that he would have to have ancestry to a direct descendent of the la push tribe to have become a shape - shifter . which meant his fatherly candidates were josh uley , billy black , or quil ateara iv . everyone preferred to think that josh had fathered him because sam's parents would have been broken up at that point . but , embry saw how the idea hurt sam and he never pushed for more information . not only would it hurt his pack but it could ruin his best friend's lives - not to mention how much his mom certainly didn't want to share her secret . after all she had done for him , he couldn't bring himself to ever ask her for the truth .

and , on top of all of the drama embry was having a hard time adapting . his mom was not allowed to know the secret & embry was required to patrol or be out of the house for pack things . because he was beginning to act out of character , embry's mom tiffany started to get suspicious and angry . she would accuse him of drugs or treachery etc and he would sit back and let her yell and ground him . only to sneak out again within hours or days . she was hurting because she really felt he was up to something horrible - especially with the rumors of sam circulating - so jared and paul tried to convince sam to let him tell her the secret . sam had agreed after talking to the council elders - embry was the first one to not have a parent who knew the legends - but embry wouldn't do it . he felt he owed them loyalty and that their cause was greater than his pain .

not only was his mother a problem but embry had a hard time adjusting to brotherhood . he was happy to do his duty when he was called to but being around a bunch of other peers was hard on him . he enjoyed his solitude and felt as if he never fit in - especially because of his parentage issue . so he tends to hang back , knowing they love and are there for him , but staying quiet all the same . it helps a little when jacob and quil join up - but he's also a little sad that their lives are different now . especially once they learn of his father problem and with how jacob hates being a wolf .

being a wolf changes embry's whole future . he ends up going to online college for an associate's degree , but he stays in la push - against his mother's wishes . their relationship is never quite the same again .

the qʷidiččaʔa·tx̌ (makah) have arranged the next 10 years of their whale hunts with noaa. (they have hunting rights under their 1855 treaty but decided to stop in the 1920s when populations were declining. since then theyve only had 1 hunt)

🍃 New Month Salat 🍃

The first night marks the outset of the hijrah, the beginning of the Islamic calendar. On this night the apostle of Allah began his migration by leaving Makah for Medina. During that night the prophet pursued by the infidels hid in the cave of soawr while Ali (as) risking his life in order to save that of the prophet (S) slept in the prophets (S) bed indifferent to the swords of the tribes of the infidels. By this act he manifested his merit and self-sacrificing devotion to his cousin the apostle of Allah and verse (22:07) was revealed

“And among the people is he who sells his soul seeking the pleasure of Allah (SWT) and Allah (SWT) is most kind to his servants”

Some scholars say that it is recommended to observe fasting on this day to express gratitude to Almighty Allah for His marvelous favor of having saved the Holy Prophet and Imam Ali ~ peace be upon them and their Household.

Iqbal Aamal - The following supplications are found in Al-Mukhtasar min al-Muntakhab for the beginning of the month of Rabi ul-Awwal

🍃 Oh God, there is no god but You, O Possessor of Tallness, Power, Might and Glory.

“O‟ my God!” There is no God but You. OnLord of Bestowals and Power! Lord of Might and Honor!

Glory be to You, how great is Your Oneness, and most ancient of Your steadfastness, and One of Your divinity, and clearer of Your divinity, and revealing Your majesty, and honoring the splendor of Your descendants, and The most beautiful and perfect are your deeds (honour your deeds with them) Glory be to you. How great is Your Oneness! How Eternal is Your Needlessness! How unique is Your Divinity! How clear is Your Lordship! How apparent is Your Glory!

And I am the greatest of you in your pride, and the most advanced of you in your authority, and I will enlighten you in your earth and your heavens.

How noble is the splendor of Your Bounties! How beautiful is the perfection of Your Creation, Your Glory in Your Magnificence, Your Eternality in Your Authority, Your Brightness in the earth and in Your Heaven, I extend your kingdom, I perpetuate your glory, I honor your pardon, I enlarge your forbearance, I obscure your knowledge, I implement your power, and I surround myself with you.

Your Eternal Dominion, Your Everlasting Might, Your Benevolent Pardon, Your Expanded Forbearance, Your Forbearing Knowledge, Your Influential Power, and Your Encompassing Closeness.

I ask you by your ancient light and your names by which you created all things.

I ask You by Your Eternal Light. And I ask You by Your Names by which everything comes into existence

That you may bless Muhammad (S) and (the) family of Muhammad (S) just as You prayed, blessed, had mercy, and showed mercy upon Abraham (as) and the family of Abraham (as).

Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious, to bestow Your Blessings on Muhammad and his Progeny (S) as You bestowed Your Blessings, Blessedness and Mercy on Abraham (as) and his Progeny (as) as You are Praiseworthy and Glorious!

And that you follow my advice until you agree, and look at me with your compassion and mercy, and grant me the ability to perform Hajj to your Sacred House.

Please grab me and direct me towards Your agreement. And please look upon me with Your Kindness and Mercy, and bless me with pilgrimage to Your sacred House,

And to combine my soul with the souls of your prophets and apostles (pbbut) unite my spirit with the spirits of Your Prophets and Messengers (as).

And You connect blessing with blessing, and more with more, and goodness with blessings, and goodness with goodness, just as You were unique in creating what you did and what you created. And You judged and had mercy Please successively give me favor after favor, increase after increase, good blessings, kindness after kindness as You created Your creatures alone based on Origination, Wisdom and Mercy.

You are the One who does not dispute the power, and you are the Possessor of glory and light. You encompass all things in mercy and knowledge.

And You are the One who has no challenge in what You destine.

And You are the Owner of Exaltedness and Light.

Your Mercy and Knowledge has encompassed everything.

And You are the Everlasting, Dominant, Almighty.

And You are the Upright! The Perpetual! The Guardian! The one who destines!

My God, I am still begging a poor and poor person to You, so make all my affairs connected to the confidence of relying on You, the goodness of returning to You, and being satisfied with Your destiny. And certainty in You and entrustment to You

O my God! I have always been a poverty stricken, poor beggar at Your Door.

Please let all my affairs be connected to good reliance upon You, good return to You and being content with Your destination, certitude to You, and trusting You.

Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, You are the Knowing, the Wise.

“Glory be to You, of knowledge We have none, save what You have taught us: In truth it is You Who are perfect in knowledge and wisdom.”1

Glory be to Him. Rather, to Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Each has His own “Glory be to Him.- Nay, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him.”2

Glory be to You, save us from the torment of the Fire. Glory be to You, I have turned to You and I am the first of the believers.

“Glory be to you!” Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire.”3

“Glory be to You! To You I turn in repentance, and I am the first to believe.”4

Glory be to You, You are our guardian besides them. Glory be to God, Lord of the worlds. “They will say, ‘Glory be to You! Our (tie) is with You – as Protector – not with them…”5

“Glory be to God!, the Lord of the Worlds.”6

Glory be to God, and I am not of the polytheists. Glory be to God for what they associate with Him. “Glory be to God!” And never will I join gods with Allah.”7

“...Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him!”8

Glory be to Him who took His servant by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Aqsa Mosque, whose surroundings We have blessed to show him of Our signs. Indeed, it is He who is the All-Hearing, the All - Seeing. “Glory be to Allah Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things).”9

Glory be to God, when evening comes and morning, and to Him is praise in the heavens and the earth and in the evening and when you appear. He brings out the living from the dead, and brings the dead out of the dead. The Living One, and He revives the earth after its death, and thus you will be brought out. “So (give) glory to God!, when ye reach eventide and when ye rise in the morning; Yea, to Him be praise, in the heavens and on earth; And in the late afternoon and when the day begins to decline. It is He Who brings out the living from the dead, and brings out the dead from the living, and Who gives life to the earth after it is dead: and thus shall ye be brought out (from the dead).”10

Glory be to Him and Most High above what they associate with Him. Glory be to Him and Most High above what they say, great exaltation. Glory be to our Lord, if the promise of our Lord is to be fulfilled.

“Glory be to Him!” High is He above the Partners they attribute to Him!”11

“Glory be to Him! He is high above all that they say!- Exalted and Great (beyond measure)!”12

They said: “Glory be to our Lord! Truly has the promise of our Lord been fulfilled!”13

Glory be to Him in whose hand is the kingdom of all things and to Him you will be returned. “…glory to Him in Whose hands is the dominion of all things: and to Him will ye all be brought back.”14

Glory be to Him, but honorable servants. Glory be to Him. He is God, the One, the Supreme. “...Glory be to Him!” They are (but) servants raised to honor.”15

“…Glory be to Him! (He is above such things.) He is Allah, the One, the Irresistible.”16

Glory be to our Lord, indeed we have been wrongdoers “They said: “Glory be to our Lord!” Verily we have been doing wrong!””17

Glory be to your Lord, Lord of glory above what they describe, and peace be upon the messengers, and praise be to God, Lord of the worlds. “Glory be to Your Lord, the Lord of Honor and Power! (He is free) from what they subscribe (to Him)! And Peace on the apostles! And Praise to God!, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds. “18

O God, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad (S), and make us know the blessings and prosperity of this month, and grant us its goodness, and turn away from us its evil.

O‟ my God! Please bestow Your Blessings on Muhammad and his Progeny (S).

Please let me know the blessedness of this month and its having good omen.

O‟ God! Please bless us with its abundant goodness, and protect us from any evil.

And make us among the winners of your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

Please let us be among the saved ones during it.

By Your Mercy! O‟ the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful!
