Max was going to kill his best friends. After he can think again.

She was so close. He could see each individual eyelash, the small, ginger hairs on her skin and the slight pout on her lips. He could smell the faint hint of vanilla from her perfume. He juts had to move his hand a little and he would be holding her hand. He froze when she shifted and her hand brushed against his. Kim chuckled quietly behind them and Chloé harshly told him to shut up. 

“Are you okay Max?” 

He looked away quickly. She probably already saw him staring but he tried to salvage his dignity anyway. “Mhm,” he hummed. He didn’t trust himself to not blurt out anything that would embarrass him further. 

“Ok.” She turned back to her book with a shrug, not bothering to continue the conversation. He tried not to stare at her again but she looked so at ease reading. Her eyes moved over the words slowly, her eyes half-lidded and her lips fell open slightly. Her right hand played with the tassel on her bag and Max quickly dismissed the want for her to play with his hand as she read. “Do you want something? Is there something on me?”

Max shook his head quickly, “No, no. It’s nothing?”

“So why are you staring at me?” She tilted her head and closed the book using her middle finger to mark the page. He shook his head again when nothing that he could say came to mind. He couldn't say, “It’s because you’re so pretty.”

She smiled slightly and leaned closer to him, “You think I’m pretty?” His face heated up, both from the little space between them and the fact that he said she was pretty out loud. 

He moved closer to the window so he put some space between them. “You are, though.” 

She leaned back and heaved a heavy sigh, “Thanks.”

He doesn’t know why that look made him tell her everything that made him like her but he said it anyway. “You’re also smart and strong and independent,” he turned his face away from her because he was sure she could see him blushing now. “It doesn’t matter what it is, if you’re determined to do it then you will do no matter what.” He wrapped his hand around his wrist and squeezed hoping that it would stop him. “And how peaceful you look reading or sleeping or doing your work makes me want to marry you on the spot so I can wake up next to you, to watch you work and to fall asleep with you reading to me everyday.” He chanced a glance at Sabrina and she was smiling softly at him despite the blush on her cheeks. “And you’re so expressive. I want to see you go through every one. I want to kiss each tear when you cry, the edges of your smile. I want to cuddle you when you’re angry and moody and in pain. I want to cook for you when you’re too tired to do anything and hear you say how wonderful it is.”

He took a deep breath and he heard her hold hers. “I want that one day you’ll be able to see yourself how I see you.” 

His mouth finally agreed with his mind to stop talking before he confessed how much he liked her. How much he loved her. No, no. He liked her, that’s it. 

Sabrina slipped her hand into his and he turned to her. She shuffled a bit closer to him. “Funny how our dreams match up."

1. Tell us about your current project(s) – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

oh jeez here we go (i’ll start with all of these are at varying degrees of “nowhere near ready to start” but i’m hoping to make serious progress on a couple of them soon-ish)

Untitled Modern Fantasy Story (currently reffered to as “Mabrina Story”): takes place in a version of reality where magic and fantasy creatures have been around all along, they just all went in to hiding for a really long time and only just recently came back. The story tells the adventures of Sabrina, a human history professor who gets tangled up in a murder investigation with the private detective Matthias, who also happens to be a dragon who takes on human form. In my head it’s a three-book series, and over the course of the second and third parts the two fall in love :3c

Untitled Robot Story: Due to a ethically-dubious science accident, Claire finds herself in the body of a robot, unable to return to her old life. While on the run from the company that did this to her, she finds shelter in the company of Bosco, a sentient robot who runs a repair shop, and Jenna, an old coworker who is ashamed of her prosthetic arm. While in hiding, Claire becomes more and more involved with the underground robot rights movement, with her unique perspective putting her in the spotlight and the crossfire.

Roboworld: completely unrelated from the previous story about robots, Roboworld takes place in a post-post apocalypse world where robots have assumed the position of dominant species, starting to believe humans were a myth conjured from relics of the old world. While on a seemingly regular courier job, Moto comes across a stunning discovery: a statis pod holding what seems to be the last human alive. However, the girl, named Eve, is convinced that there are more humans left alive and is desperate to find them. Teaming up with the grumpy security bot Beat, the three set off across the wasteland to find Eve’s family.

MegaMary: Mary is a NEET, plain and simple. When her dream of skipping college in favor of Twitch streaming never took off, she lost her drive for most things in life beyond her favorite MMO, Realms of Historia. Next thing she knows, a magical creature inahbits her Game Boy and gives her the power to assume RPG class abilities in order to fight ferocious monsters - all of which seems strangely linked to Realms of Historia and its popular creator, Tina Houston (who definitely isn’t just genderbend Todd Howard)

and I also have various writing projects based off of my characters from SWTOR and Guild Wars 2

2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

I’ve been on a kick with Mabrina story lately so I’m really excited to start outlining more of what actually happens in it beyond just the vague “at some point X thing happens” i’ve been riding off of for years

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

I don’t have it all 100% nailed down yet, but in mabrina story Sabrina isn’t a magic user, and so carries a gun with her when working with Matthias. I want to take special care with when and how she uses that gun, both for proper gun use and safety (because goodness knows we need more of that in media) and also to keep her from just going Rambo on the bad guys. In particular I want the very first time she uses it in the story to be a fairly distressing moment for her cause hey!!! killing a dude even in self defence is a huge deal!!!!!!

25. What part of writing is the most fun?

oh man i LOVE that moment when things just start coming together and you feel like the world’s hugest genius, THAT is the stuff i live for

so uh basically around the time of the crusades the magical peoples were like “the non-magical humans all want to kill us, we’re not gonna let that fly” so they used a bunch of magic to lift five cities into the skies and disappeared. fast forward to the modern day and they’ve realized they’re still really dependent on resources they can’t make on the islands (they regularly send people down to procure new tech and food and stuff) and human technology is getting so advanced it’s possible they could be found out eventually, so they decided to reveal themselves and reestablish contact so they hopefully wouldn’t get like. nuked or something

it’s so funny to me how that person said Kiernan wants calbrina to be endgame like she has never once said that and she talks about every ship including nilda 😭
