reminder for watercolor/gouache artists that in the hot humid days you should check on your paints reguarly and make sure they’re stored somewhere cool bc they can be extra vulnarable to melting and mildewing/molding and if your tube filled watercolor pallete is on its side rn your colors are probably making sweet beautiful love with eachother. this goes double for paints like m graham or sennlier that contain honey

dragon braid flatlay - watercolor/gouache pigments PR122 + PG7 + PY110 + PW6

she’s showing you her new braiding spell! (it’s not going well)

been doing too much digitally and needed to stim—gouache has a sliiiiight grit or grip (or at least the m graham PW6 I pastelize my watercolors with feels grittier than, say, PR122 which is a bit slippery?

idk, it seems like a silly amount of difference but I NEEDED the PW6 feeling on the paintbrush OR ELSE so it’s officially a stim now I guess.

I do feel better tho!

I usually use a brand of watercolors called Van Gogh's for practice.But Daniel Smith, Holbein or M. Graham,Smink, all of these watercolors I buy some of my favorite colors to use and usually buy liquid paints.

At the same time, I use brushes to paint, and my most common watercolor paper is Fabiano, but the watercolor books you've been seeing lately are made in China, and they're a brand called Bao Hong!

Hahaha, you see, I don't really have regular watercolor supplies, I think it's best to experiment more! I'd be happy if these helped you!🫶☺️

it varies, i love to collect watercolor paint so i have quite a few palettes and brands LOL

but my mainstay palette i use the most rn (pic below) consists mostly of daniel smith! theres some m graham, winsor & newton, da vinci and schimicke sprinkled in. i'm a big advocate for buying tubes since you can get really custom with it :>

I bought a tube of Sennelier Alizarin Crimson when I was just starting to get into watercolors, and before I really knew what I wanted from my paints. If I could go back in time, I would avoid this particular Alizarin Crimson because it's made up of three pigments, and I prefer single-pigment colors, or at most two pigment convenience colors. I greatly prefer M. Graham's Alizarin, which I think is a lot prettier and is also only made up of the one pigment.

one of my ‘sonas in homemade gouache (watercolor + white gouache) on terrible paper that warped lol. making gouache this way has a learning curve I think--PG36 (M Graham phthalo green yellow shade) is not very matte. But hey, a background! 5.5 x 8.5″
