The Pogues lanzaron entre 1984 y 1995 7 LPs de estudio de entre los cuales destacaron los tres primeros "Red Roses for Me", "Rum Sodomy & the Lash" y "If I Should Fall From Grace With God", antes de que la fórmula se empezara a agotar. El tercero, publicado en 1988, fue el disco de "Fairytale of New York" y "Fiesta". En la primera cantó con Shane la inolvidable Kirsty MacColl, hija del legendario Ewan MacColl, el señor que compuso "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" y "Dirty Old Town". Recuerdo un verano de 1988/89 en Miraflores de la Sierra, "Fiesta" sonando machacona en todas partes, un maravilloso y macarrónico tema brillantemente pachanguero en el que McGowan chapurreaba palabras en español como antes lo hicieran sus queridos Clash en "Spanish Bombs" o "Should I Stay Or Should I Go?".
Por si el castellano de Clash no fue lo suficientemente chapucero, la letra de McGowan era ya inenarrable. Todo ello acompañado de un surrealista vídeo que mezclaba Pogues en Casa Batlló de Gaudí; McGowan de smoking, faja y gafas de rock, vestido de torero, vestido de "guiri"; bailaoras de flamenco; un tío con cabeza de toro; fuegos artificiales, y, en una palabra, FIESTA. Estrepitosa, un verdadero disparate, como sus conciertos en directo, que es donde estaba su verdad. También sale en el vídeoclip Phil Chevron, viejo colega de McGowan de Radiators From Space, luego The Radiators, que se metió en los Pogues para grabar su segundo elepé.
Para fiesta, la que se marcaron con "A Message To You Rudy" en el escenario del londinense Town & Country Club en 1988, los Pogues, Lynval Golding de Specials y Kirsty, cualquier cosa en la que ella cante o salga es bienvenida siempre aquí.
