Thinking about the reactions Ace and Sabo would have to finding out Luffy’s in love with Sanji;; Honestly Ace being the overprotective one is probably more in character but it would be so fucking funny if Ace just catches Luffy staring at Sanji for a little too long and decides he’s going to be his little brother’s ultimate wingman. He’s COMMITTED and he’s going to sneakily create SO many romantic moments for Luffy to take advantage of. But Sabo,, Sabo turns out to be the overprotective one LMAO he sees Sanji smile softly at Luffy one (1) time and he’s like oh HELL no, not MY little brother. Ace tries to set them up, Sabo tries to…SABOtage them ;)))))

Even more hilarious is if this is happening at the same time. Luffy is oblivious but Sanji’s inwardly questioning what the hell is going on bc every time he THINKS there’s a romantic situation blossoming between them, absolute disaster strikes right after. Meanwhile in the background Ace and Sabo are arguing (“Stop fucking everything up you’re ruining all my plans!!” “Luffy’s far too young to have a boyfriend, are you kidding me right now?” “He’s NINETEEN Sabo get over it!!” “Not until that cook wins my approval and right now it’s not looking good for him” “ARE YOU ACTUALLY SERIOUS. i know like i just know in my heart of hearts that sanji has been smoking the same shitty bedraggled cigarette the whole time. three years. he takes one puff and puts that thing right back in his pocket and it gets waterlogged and messed up and dries out eventually and then he does it all over again and that's why it looks worse and worse with each arc. id normally never give him this honor but honestly? line cook behavior.

It's the tugging at his hand that wakes Ace from his impromptu nap. For all the lethargy that clings to him, Ace still turns his head to look after what trouble Luffy is up to. Blinking slow before his lashes flutter closed and he drifts. Too comfortable to fight the heaviness in his limbs, too content to wake himself up properly.

Ace twitches his fingers, tangling them loose with Luffy's and making him laugh. A soft titter that pulls a tired smile to Ace's lips.

Water laps along the dock, rocking them gently with the pull of the ocean. It tickles Ace's toes where his legs hang off the edge, a coolness to contrast the warmth of the sun overhead - the warmth of his brother's hand as Luffy messes with him.

An unfamiliar weight settling at his wrist has him blinking awake again, confused as he takes his hand and raises it overhead. Blocking out the sun to see a bracelet. Simple with its red and white stripes.

"What's this for?" Ace asks, turning his hand around to look at it closer. They don't usually get gifts for each other. Not like this, at least.

Luffy scoots closer to him, his knobby knees pressing against Ace's ribs. He reaches out, finger catching in the space between the bracelet and Ace's skin before giving it a playful tug. There's joy in his smile and mirth in his eyes; breathtaking, brilliant.

"It's like a lifebuoy." Luffy tells him, so simple that Ace huffs out a breath of laughter because that's exactly what it looks like, isn't it?

"A lifebuoy, huh?" Ace asks, flicking the bracelet along his wrist. Turning it over and knowing that for all the adventures that await him - this might be the greatest treasure he'll ever have found.

When Ace drops his head to the side, he looks up at Luffy and marvels him. Lets Luffy take Ace's hand by that bracelet, fidgeting as Luffy smiles wide at him, "For if Ace is ever drowning without me."

And Ace's gaze softens in an instant, endearment swelling warm in his chest because his brother is a kindness that breathes fire into Ace's lungs and brands his good-for-nothing soul with hope.

He pulls away from Luffy's hold only far enough to reach his hand behind his brother's head - tugging him forward to rest the side of his head against Ace's chest, his steadily beating heart.

'Thank you,' He doesn't say, because Ace feels like if he started he wouldn't stop. Because the only lifebuoy he's ever needed is this ornery, cheeky, crybaby of a little brother.
