All You Need to Know About Matchups!
CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE WAITLIST
Hi y'all!
This account is solely for matchups for several different fandoms. That means requests for imagines, oneshots, headcanons, etc. will NOT be taken.
Here are some basic things to know about requesting a matchup!
Unless otherwise specified for a certain fandom, a request yields one romantic pairing AND one friendship pairing as well as information on why I think you work well with the individuals I choose. Of course, if you only wish to receive either just the romantic matchup or just the friendship matchup, just let me know!
You can request matchups for several different fandoms at once! For each fandom you request, I will match you up with one romantic partner and one friend unless you request differently.
You can ask to exclude any character(s)!
Where can I request a matchup?
Requests can be made in the MATCHUP REQUESTS/ASK ME ANYTHING tab.
What do I need to include in my request?
Required
Fandom(s)
Your gender and/or pronouns
Your sexual orientation and/or preferences
Description of personality
Optional (but definitely helps me out!)
Description of appearance
Hobbies
Personality alignment (Myers-Briggs, Enneagram, Hogwarts House, etc.)
What you would look for in a partner and/or friend
Any other information you think would be helpful – the more you provide, the more I can work with!
Now with that out of the way, onto the fandoms!
Listed directly below is a shortlist of all the fandoms I take requests for as well as some extra information as needed.
Disclaimers
If a title is in italics, it means that while I feel comfortable providing matchups for this show, I have not watched every season. If a character drastically changes after a certain point, I may not be aware. The last season I watched of these shows will be included in parentheses.
All movies/shows based on novels will most likely focus on the on-screen adaptations of characters.

What’s below the cut?

Listed alphabetically by first name.
Don’t be afraid to tell me about a typo!

Waiting for Godot - Broadway - November 24, 2013 (Opening Night) (Lanelle's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Aidan Gemme (The Boy), Billy Crudup (Lucky), Ian McKellen (Estragon), Patrick Stewart (Vladimir), Shuler Hensley (Pozzo)
War Horse - West End - February 27, 2014 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MKV (HD) CAST: Sion Daniel Young (Albert Narracott), Josie Walker (Rose Narracott), Alistair Brammer (Billy Narracott), Alex Avery (Captain Nicholls), Steve North (Ted Narracott), Tom Hodgkins (Arthur Narracott) NOTES: Multi-cam pro-shot broadcast live to cinemas as part of National Theatre Live, Includes interval interview and documentary.
War Paint - Broadway - March 11, 2017 (Preview) (SunsetBlvd79's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (SD) CAST: Patti LuPone (Helena Rubinstein), Christine Ebersole (Elizabeth Arden), John Dossett (Tommy Lewis), Douglas Sills (Harry Fleming) NOTES: Beautiful HD capture of the Broadway transfer. Some changes for Broadway from the previous Goodman Theater production. Excellent performances from the entire cast with clear picture and great sound throughout; very good video. 2 DVDs. A War Paint - Broadway - April 29, 2017 (Matinee) (NYCG8R's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Patti LuPone (Helena Rubinstein), Christine Ebersole (Elizabeth Arden), John Dossett (Tommy Lewis), Douglas Sills (Harry Fleming) NOTES: The master gets caught during Face to Face. You can hear someone say “TURN IT OFF”. Blackout during that part. Wasted - Southwark Playhouse - 2018 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Matthew Jacobs Morgan (Branwell Brontë), Molly Lynch (Anne Brontë), Natasha Barnes (Charlotte Brontë), Siobhan Athwal (Emily Brontë) We Are The Tigers - Off-Broadway - March, 2019 (StarCuffedJeans's master) FORMAT:  MP4 (HD) CAST: Lauren Zakrin (Riley Williams), Wonu Ogunfowora (Cairo), Jenny Rose Baker (Kate Dalton), MiMi Scardulla (Reese), Kaitlyn Frank (Annleigh), Cathy Ang (Mattie Wheeler), Celeste Rose (Chess), Zoe Jensen (Farrah), Sydney Parra (Eva Sanchez), Louis Griffin (Clark) NOTES: Starts at the beginning of "I Just Wanna" and missing part of "Mattie's Lament." The theater was really full tonight so there are a good number of heads in this video, but they are worked around to the best of my ability. This is a super small theater (less than 160 seats) and at times the cast members were definitely singing to the camera and honestly giving their best performances because of it. All of the things on the upper level (the bathroom, the pathway, and the kitchen) are captured perfectly, and the zooms on the lower level (the living room and bench) look good as well. Obviously because this is a murder mystery kind of show the lighting can get a little bit dark, but my camera handles low lighting incredibly well. This is honestly the best video you could expect from this venue We Will Rock You - Germany (Cologne) - August, 2005 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Alex Melcher (Galileo), Vera Bolten (Scaramouche), Brigitte Oelke (Killer Queen), Martin Berger (Khashoggi), Michaela Kovarikova (Meat/Oz), DMJ (Brit/J.B.), James Sbano (Pop/Buddy/Bap), Harald Tauber (Teacher), Willemijn Verkaik NOTES: Multicam proshot We Will Rock You - Utrecht (The Netherlands) - October, 2010 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: John Vooijs (Galileo), Marjolein Teepen (Scaramouche), Pia Douwes (Killer Queen), Paul Donkers (Khashoggi), Floortje Smit (Meat/Oz), Ruud van Overdijk (Brit/J.B.), Rutger le Poole (Pop/Buddy/Bap) NOTES: Good capture. Heads in the way, but also a lot of good close-ups. Dubble DVD! We Will Rock You - West End - February 11, 2003 (Pro-Shot's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Tony Vincent (Galileo), Hannah Jane Fox (Scaramouche), Sharon D Clarke (Killer Queen), Alexander Hanson (Khashoggi), Kerry Ellis (Meat/Oz), Nigel Clauzner (Brit/J.B.), Nigel Planer (Pop/Buddy/Bap) The Wedding Singer - Broadway - April 1, 2006 (Preview) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Stephen Lynch (Robbie Hart), Laura Benanti (Julia), Matthew Saldivar (Sammy), Kevin Cahoon (George), Rita Gardner (Rosie), Amy Spanger (Holly), Richard H Blake (Glen), Felicia Finley (Linda) NOTES: Includes pictures of outside of the theatre and playbill. This was before the changes were made to the production. Blackouts throughout the show. The Wedding Singer - Off-West End - March 1, 2020 (Matinee) (Closing Night) (Highlights) (queenofthedead's master) FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Kevin Clifton (Robbie Hart), Rhiannon Chesterman (Julia), Ashley Emmerson (Sammy), Andrew Carthy (George), Sandra Dickinson (Rosie), Tara Verloop (Holly), Jonny Fines (Glen), Erin Bell (Linda), Lori Haley Fox (Angie), Andy Brady (David Fonda), Nathan Ryles (Harold Fonda), Jordan Crouch (Donnie), Aimee Moore (Tiffany), Simon Anthony (Shane McDonough), Paris Green (Donatella), Vanessa Grace Lee (Donatella’s Mother), Morgan Jackson (Mookie), Ellie Seaton (Crystal) NOTES: 38 minutes of act 1 of the closing performance, unobstructed. Welcome To The Club - Broadway - April 8, 1989 FORMAT:  VOB (with smalls) (SD) CAST: Avery Schreiber (Milton), Bill Buell (Gus), Jodi Benson (Betty), Marcia Mitzman (Carol), Marilyn Sokol (Arlene), Sally Mayes (Winona), Samuel E Wright (Bruce), Scott Waara (Kevin), Scott Wentworth (Aaron), Terri White (Eve) NOTES: Filmed during previews. Character Actor
Wesley Lau (June 18, 1921 – August 30, 1984)  Film and television actor.
During his acting career, Lau was probably best known as Lt. Andy Anderson in the series Perry Mason.  He appeared frequently during the latter part of the show's run, especially during times when longtime series regular Ray Collins, who played Lt. Arthur Tragg, was absent. (Collins died in 1965 before the series ended its run.)  Lau first appeared on Perry Mason as defendant Amory Fallon in "The Case of the Impatient Partner" in September 1961.  Less than a month later, he made the first of 81 appearances as Lt. Anderson, a role which ran from the fourth episode ("The Case of the Malicious Mariner") of the fifth season (1961–1962) through the last episode ("The Case of the Mischievous Doll") of the eighth season (1964–1965).
Other shows in which Lau made appearances include Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Gunsmoke, Have Gun-Will Travel, Peter Gunn, The Twilight Zone, The Time Tunnel, The Big Valley, Mission: Impossible, Cannon, Wagon Train, and The Six Million Dollar Man. He would reunite with Raymond Burr in an episode of Ironside called "In the Forests of the Night". (Wikipedia)

Steel Guitars and Independent Women: The Retelling of The Bat by Jessica Pickens
Tumblr media
A group of people terrorized in a desolate house, cut phone lines and a faceless murderer; none of these elements are new to a horror film. They are all featured in the story of THE BAT (‘59), which by the time of its release, wasn't new to audiences either. However, the modernized 1959 version of the horror thriller has a new and refreshing feel today.
The story originated as a stage play that premiered in August 1920, written by Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood. Five film versions of the story were then released over the years: THE BAT (‘26), THE BAT WHISPERS (‘30), SH! THE OCTOPUS (‘37), THE GORILLA (‘39) and this version. Some of the stories change “The Bat” to a gorilla or another animal, but the premise is still the same in each — a group of people in a house terrorized by an animal-like murderer.
Agnes Moorehead stars in this version as mystery writer Cornelia van Gorder, who rents the Oaks mansion from a small-town bank president in order to write her next novel. But soon after moving in, all of her servants quit, and she and her maid Lizzie, played by Lenita Lane, are the only ones left in the house. Rumors of a murderer named “The Bat” circulate — a killer that slits throats with long talons and is said to have no face.
Tumblr media
Adding a complication to the plot, the bank president embezzles millions and he is killed shortly after. Only one person knows the bank president committed the crime, but a newly married bank clerk, Vic Bailey (Mike Steele), is arrested on suspicion.
Others involved in the plot include:
Local doctor, coroner and bat expert, Dr. Malcolm Wells (Vincent Price)
Chief detective, Lt. Andy Anderson (Gavin Gordon)
Cornelia’s house guests: Judy (Darla Hood), who can testify in the embezzlement case, and Dale Bailey (Elaine Edwards), the wife of Vic who is in jail
The mysterious chauffeur, Warner (John Sutton)
Mark Fleming (John Bryant), the nephew and heir of the bank president
With multiple characters all behaving suspiciously, THE BAT weaves a web of intrigue and keeps you guessing about who the murderer is.
By 1959, Vincent Price’s career was largely dedicated to horror films. But while Price stars here, he isn’t the main focus of the film — instead Agnes Moorehead is the star.
Chameleon-like in the versatility of her film roles, some of Moorehead’s characters have included the glamorous but catty best friend in SINCE YOU WENT AWAY (’44); the fragile Aunt Fanny in THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS (’42); and the strange, sloppy maid to a reclusive Southern belle in HUSH…HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE (’64). Even at the time THE BAT was being filmed, Moorehead was preparing for her role in Disney’s POLLYANNA (’60) and a Broadway musical co-starring Ginger Rogers called The Pink Jungle.
Tumblr media
Her varied performances have made Moorehead well-remembered, and her image lives on today, particularly because of roles like Endora in the television show Bewitched. Because she could adapt to any character or personality type, many of Moorehead’s film roles were supporting character actors. THE BAT was one of Moorehead’s few leading lady roles. Her character of Cornelia van Gorder is a smart and savvy writer, who doesn’t have a love interest, nor does she need one. The men Cornelia calls on to help solve the crime are barely useful and she takes matters into her own hands. While Cornelia and her maid Lizzie may be frightened by the idea of the Bat, they take charge of the situation and uncover the secrets that break the case.
The maid in this film, Lizzie, is portrayed by Lenita Lane, who was also the wife of Crane Wilbur, who directed and wrote the screenplay for THE BAT. Lane was a supporting actress in the 1930s and early 1940s, and by the time THE BAT was released, her film career had slowed. This was Lane’s first film in five years as she was already in semi-retirement and this was Lane’s last film. While Lane’s character of Lizzie is Cornelia’s maid, she is treated as Cornelia’s equal and is the only other levelheaded individual in the case. Audiences will also see former child star of the Our Gang series, Darla Hood, in the role of Judy.
Though this isn’t a new story, I feel like the modernized, 1959 version of THE BAT is more noteworthy than its predecessors. Film reviews from 1959 and today aren’t always complimentary of THE BAT, saying it lacked momentum or scares. But the dry wit and humor brought into the story give the movie an offbeat, quirky feel and its overall more fun than the other versions.
Tumblr media
The characters also set this 1959 film apart. In many horror films of the 1950s and early-1960s, women are terrorized and a man saves the day. But the men in THE BAT are either killed, suspicious or useless. There are certainly a few damsels in distress in this film, but it’s the women — particularly Cornelia and Lizzie — who solve the crime and wrap up the case.
Adding to the quirky vibe is a score featuring jazz guitarist Alvino Rey with his steel guitar. Each time the Bat enters, we hear a twang of the unique sounding instrument, which has a sinister Hawaiian guitar sound to it.
But what really makes this movie is Agnes Moorehead. The film left me wishing that Agnes Moorehead had her own film or television detective series.

@jeannedarcprice replied to your post “Character Traits Meme”
What's the guilt complex about?
In the most general of terms, it’s sort of obsessive thinking that you’ve done something wrong. This plays a part in Andy’s backstory as much as just... guilt itself. So that’s why I chose it.
If you want to read more, I allowed myself to elaborate under the cut.
You see, Andromeda has a history of people dying under her command and she doesn’t take it lightly, contrary to how she’s universally perceived.
Butcher of Torfan, she’s often called with spite but deep down Andromeda not as ruthless as she’s perceived to be. Details of what took place on the surface got classified and only a few details were widely known. She’s never tried to justify her actions when called out because she knew there was no point. It would neither clear her in their eyes no it wouldn’t bring anyone back to life. The decision she’s made back then took the toll on her, though she used the guilt as fuel and thrown herself into further into the N7 training. However, during the lonely, sleepless nights she’s often wondered if there was a way to avoid it or what she might’ve done wrong...
From then on, things were only piling up... And fast.
Jenkins was young, enthusiastic... It didn’t take her long to realize he still has a lot to learn, but she was aware he had a lot of potential. After all, Anderson wouldn’t pick him for his crew otherwise. Within the snap of fingers, he was gone and for quite a while Andy was wondering if there could’ve been a way to do things differently and avoid his death.
Then she was forced to leave Kaidan behind on Virmire and it hit her hard. As a commanding officer, Andromeda felt terribly guilty for not foreseeing the possible complications. She’s saved Ashley and the salarians but it didn’t make her conscience any lighter, especially that she began warming up to LT with each and every day spent on board of the SR-1. Paying her respects to his parents was probably one of the hardest things she’s ever done in her life. Again, though, she kept pushing forward, trying to not let Kaidan’s sacrifice be in vain.
Those things accumulated during the attack on the Normandy. She took special care to get as many people out in the escape pods as it was possible. When she threw Joker inside the last one she kept repeating to herself: I want to be remembered for saving my people, not letting them die, which... Was also her last thought.
Thanks to all she’s experienced, Andromeda knew well through what Garrus was going after she picked him up from Omega. She was painfully aware of how hard it is to reconcile with remorse and guilt ‘caused by deaths of people who trusted you. This along with mutual trust and respect eventually brought them close. When she heard about the whole thing with Sidonis she swore she’ll try her best to not let her friend do anything stupid out of vengeance.
She’s also seen a mirror image of herself in Vega, so she gave him pep talk of the ages (and beat his ass while doing so) when he told her about Fehl Prime. Later, after he approached her with the N7 nomination, she took him for a more thoughtful conversation over a glass of good scotch, in which she shared with him her own experiences.
Guilt complex might be a bit of a stretch but you might also say that guilt as a feeling is one of her best friends...

Just one of these decisions can alter the course of a person’s life. What if you decided to master all seven? In this revised and repackaged version of Mastering the Seven Decisions, master storyteller and life coach Andy Andrews has fast-forwarded the concept of success and what it takes to make it stick. Seeking out what separates the ordinary life from the extraordinary, Andrews has spent much of his life dissecting countless biographies and spending time with some of the most successful people on the planet in an effort to understand the principles that propel them toward greatness. The result: seven simple principles that – when applied consistently- render extraordinary lives. Through his entertaining, down-to-earth style, Andrews introduces these principles and offers all the tools necessary to make lasting changes in your life. The consistent application of the Seven Decisions brings about what can only be called miracles: What was once labeled “impossible” actualizes. Opportunities that once eluded you are now attracted to you. Dysfunctional relationships transform into harmonious ones. Life, which was once a struggle, now becomes an exciting adventure! U.S. Army Lt. Col. Carrick McCarthy administered the final four oaths of office to his graduating MTSU senior cadets Tuesday, May 12, bringing a nonclassroom lesson for them.
“It is the most important message you will ever receive during your time in ROTC,” McCarthy said. “We trust you. We trust you to win our nation’s wars, to be a leader of character and competence and consequence. We trust you to leave our profession better than you find it.”
McCarthy, the Military Science chair, shared it 13 times across three days in special on-campus, individual commissioning ceremonies in the Tom H. Jackson Building’s Cantrell Hall. He also told them about the significance of the ceremony.
The commissioning ceremony is a tradition for the ROTC program, which has seen the student cadets prepare for service to their country.
MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee and Provost Mark Byrnes approved the ceremonies, emphasizing the need to stay within CDC guidelines on small groups and social distancing in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Military Science Department limited each of the 13 ceremonies to five people at each session and spread them out across four to five hours each of the three days to allow time for sanitizing in between. It is one of the first on-campus activities since mid-March when the university moved to online instruction to stem the spread of COVID-19.
Those commissioned Friday, May 8, Monday, May 11, and Tuesday, May 12 as second lieutenants included:
• Benjamin Gober of Murfreesboro. He earned a bachelor’s in business administration and will be reserve forces duty with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
• Jose D. Peraza Miejas of La Vergne, Tennessee. He earned a bachelor’s in computer science and will be reserve forces duty with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
• Juante J. Williams of Memphis, Tennessee. He earned a Master of Science in Professional Science biotechnology degree and will be reserve forces duty with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
• Megan L. Anderson Miller of Morrison, Tennessee. She earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice and will be active duty with the military police branch.
• Brittney E. Bauer of Murfreesboro. She earned a bachelor’s in professional studies and will be active duty in the transportation branch.
• Kaitlin R. Rupe of Milton, Tennessee. She earned a bachelor’s in aerospace (flight dispatch concentration) and will be active duty in the ordnance branch.
• Brandon A. Valentin of Orlando, Florida. He earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice and will be reserve forces duty with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
• Nicholas B. King of Nolensville, Tennessee. He earned a bachelor’s in business administration and will be reserve forces duty with the U.S. Army Reserve.
• Sean O. Sullivan of La Vergne, Tennessee. He earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice and will be active duty in the ordnance branch.
• Curtis R. Rookard of Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He earned his Master of Science in Professional Science biostatistics degree and will be reserve forces duty with the Tennessee Army National Guard.
• Jonathan D. Nunley of Tracy City, Tennessee. He earned his bachelor’s in business administration in entrepreneurship.
• Roland K. Stokes of Pleasant View, Tennessee. He earned his bachelor’s in environmental technology and will be active duty in the ordnance branch.
• Russell A. Flade of Bell Buckle, Tennessee. He earned his bachelor’s in criminal justice and will be active duty in the infantry branch.
In addition to the oath of office, the ceremonies included a welcome from McCarthy, invocation, national anthem, pinning of rank by parents, first salute and remarks from McCarthy and the newly commissioned officers.
A video message from various military leaders also was shown.

Must-Reads Of The Week From Brianna Labuskes
The Friday Breeze
Newsletter editor Brianna Labuskes, who reads everything on health care to compile our daily Morning Briefing, offers the best and most provocative stories for the weekend.
Happy Friday! Tis the season of getting wretched colds, and I blame daylight savings as any reasonable person would. So, we’re going to make this short and sweet as I clutch my tissues and tea. Buckle up!
Election results in Kentucky (and Virginia, really) added to the ever-deepening narrative that health care can be a big political winner for Dems and an Achilles’ heel for Republicans these days. Although the GOP talking point is that Gov. Matt Bevin (who technically hasn’t conceded yet) was extremely unpopular, it’s hard to miss that Medicaid expansion was a top issue in the race. Andy Beshear, who claimed victory on Tuesday, has vowed to rescind all of Bevin’s plans for Medicaid work requirements when he takes office.
In Virginia, many lawmakers ran on health care as well (like promising to protect preexisting conditions coverage and tackling gun control regulations), helping the Dems secure the Legislature for the first time in decades.
But health care isn’t always enough to boost Dems to a win, it seems. Democrat Jim Hood failed to upset Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, a Republican, despite Hood’s promises to expand Medicaid to about 300,000 of the state’s most needy residents.
Curiously, attacks over abortion did not seem to hurt Democrats in either Virginia or Kentucky, even though the issue loomed large in both states.
CNN: Kentucky, Virginia And Mississippi Elections: 3 Takeaways
Politico: Why Democrats Keep Winning On Health Care
In a quick sidenote on Medicaid in the Deep South: Georgia’s governor has released a long-awaited health care plan that includes a limited Medicaid expansion with work requirements. As the requirements falter elsewhere, it will be interesting to test case to watch.

Now over to the presidential primary race: As predicted, lots of pundits, rivals, and others have had lots of thoughts on Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s plan to pay for “Medicare for All,” mostly landing on: It’s just not realistic. For her numbers to add up (which they do), everything pretty much has to fall into place perfectly. Which… in a nation’s capitol known more for its bitter partisan gridlock and deference to deep-pocketed lobby interests than for its smooth roads and sunny skies, well… no one is holding their breath that this would pass.
The Washington Post Fact Checker: Warren’s Plan To Pay For Medicare-For-All: Does It Add Up?
The New York Times: Elizabeth Warren’s ‘Medicare For All’ Math
Elsewhere on the election trail, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) released an ambitious plan to tack the immigration crisis. Among other things, he would scrap President Donald Trump’s “public charge” rule and ensure that anyone in the country regardless of immigration status was covered by his health system.
Boston Globe: Bernie Sanders Unveils Ambitious Immigration Plan That Offer A Path For Citizenship And Dismantles ICE
Tension over patents came to a head this week as the Trump administration sued Gilead over its HIV prevention drug, the development of which relied heavily on taxpayer-funded research. This fight has been bubbling up because Gilead has been raking in billions from the drug and yet hasn’t paid the CDC any royalties.
The Washington Post: U.S. Sues Drugmaker Gilead Sciences Over Patent On Truvada For HIV Prevention
And in case you’re interested in the background of it all (you should be! It’s a fascinating case), the Post did a deep-dive back in March.
The Washington Post: An HIV Treatment Cost Taxpayers Millions. The Government Patented It. But A Pharma Giant Is Making Billions.
Speaking of news from the administration, there was so much of it this week!
Let’s start with the court decision to block its expanded “conscience rule” for health care personnel who don’t want to participate in certain care due to moral reasons. The judge denounced the rule, saying it was arbitrary and unconstitutionally coercive. He also wrote that the “stated justification for undertaking rule making in the first place — a purported ‘significant increase’ in civilian complaints relating to the conscience provisions — was factually untrue.”
The New York Times: Judge Voids Trump-Backed ‘Conscience Rule’ For Health Workers
That wasn’t the only legal blow the administration suffered: elsewhere, a judge placed a temporary restraining order on a Trump rule that would have required visa-seekers to prove they can pay for health coverage before they’re allowed to live in the country.
The Associated Press: US Judge Blocks Trump’s Health Insurance Rule For Immigrants
In a separate court decision, a federal judge ruled that the U.S. government must provide mental health services to migrant families who may have been traumatized by being separated under the zero tolerance policy. The judge referred to previous federal cases that found that governments can be held liable when with “deliberate indifference” they place people in dangerous situations. This bit from The New York Times is interesting: In the past, the “state-created danger” doctrine has been applied when a police officer ejected a person from a bar late at night in very cold weather, or when a public employer failed to address toxic mold that caused workers to fall ill.
The New York Times: U.S. Must Provide Mental Health Services To Families Separated At Border
From news outside the courts, HHS is seeking to roll back Obama-era protections that keep foster care and adoption services from discriminating against LGBTQ families.
The New York Times: Adoption Groups Could Turn Away L.G.B.T. Families Under Proposed Rule
And in the midst of several public health crises, Trump has picked his choice to head the FDA: Dr. Stephen Hahn of the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. If confirmed, Hahn will almost immediately have his hands full with the vaping epidemic, as well as continued fallout from the opioid crisis, not to mention public outrage over the high cost of drugs.
The Associated Press: Trump Picks Cancer Specialist From Texas Hospital To Run FDA
In case you missed it: Stat did one of the more interesting profiles on Hahn a bit ago, if you want to read up on his background.
Stat: Frontrunner To Lead FDA, Dogged By Controversies, Has Developed Knack For Confronting Them
On the topic of FDA, a look at how a controversy over a chemical that sterilizes medical equipment became a prime example of just how wrong things can go when agencies operate as silo-ed bureaucracies.
Politico: How The FDA And EPA’s Failure To Communicate Could Put Patients In Danger
Ahead of an anticipated federal ban on e-cigarettes, Juul has announced that it will end the sale of mint flavored pods. A study came out this week that found that the mint flavored ones have become more and more popular among young vapers.
The New York Times: Juul Ends E-Cigarette Sales Of Mint-Flavored Pods
Often times, when studying a disease it can be the people who don’t get it that hold the answers. That might be true with one woman who should have gotten early onset Alzheimer’s but didn’t start showing symptoms until decades later. Researchers say a mutation that the woman had protected her from the devastating disease. Learning how it did that could help scientists replicate the process for those who don’t have the mutation.
The New York Times: Why Didn’t She Get Alzheimer’s? The Answer Could Hold A Key To Fighting The Disease
It’s not always the memory that goes first. For those with frontotemporal dementia, it’s often the areas of the brain that control personality that are affected first. The resulting behavior changes can be heartbreaking.
The New York Times: The Loneliness Of Frontotemporal Dementia
And in the miscellaneous file for the week:
Documents show how Walgreens was in a unique position to raise giant red flags about the opioid epidemic at its height. But the company failed to do so.
The Washington Post: At Height Of Crisis, Walgreens Handled One In Five Of The Most Addictive Opioids
When one woman’s baby was born three months prematurely, she’d thought she’d taken care of everything that was needed to get her daughter covered under her insurance. Turns out, that wasn’t the case, and by the time she got the $898,984 bill, it was too late to fix it.
ProPublica: How One Employer Stuck A New Mom With A $898,984 Bill For Her Premature Baby
We often think of breath tests as being infallible ways to prevent drunken driving. But many of the machines that are stocked in police stations across the country are calibrated incorrectly. For some, that can change the whole course of their future.
The New York Times: These Machines Can Put You In Jail. Don’t Trust Them.
That’s it from me! Everyone stay healthy and don’t forget to get your flu shot.
