“Eulogise her,” said the Emperor, through his hands. “For God’s sake, eulogise her anyway. Eulogise them both.”

new cytherea theory, but on page 371 of gtn, gideon notes her eyes as "limpid, moonless purple" rather than electric blue (which we know is loveday's eye color). that plus the fact that cytherea was so insistent on being called "cytherea loveday" really makes me wonder if g1deon/pyrrha weren't the only og lyctor/cav pair to compartmentalize their lyctorization

You known what would have been really fucked up? If cytherea had used Samael instead of loveday to become a lyctor. The whole sixth house would have been terrified of the seventh

Thinking about Cytherea the first again.
When you meet her in Gideon, (maybe I’m projecting here, but) you mostly conceptualize her as a threat that needs to be stopped, as a person who has killed characters that you cared about and is trying to kill the last ones left.
And then Harrow happens and it’s not that you learn more about her, really, (though the line, “I never saw her cry except once. The day after,” does Haunt Me) but you slow down, and meet the other lychtors, and you’re able to think about Cytherea’s story outside the context of a villain monologue. You get to see the trauma of lychtorhood up close. You look at Harrow and Gideon, and you think about Cytherea and Loveday, and you come back to that core fact of Cytherea’s character at a time when you’re able to digest it:
She killed and ate her closest friend because they thought it was her last chance to live, and instead she kept dying for 10,000 years.
And you understand why she wanted to burn down the world.

i'm finally saying my truth: pre-ascension Pyrrha Dve gave Cytherea the orgasm of her life. blew her back right out. Loveday was in the corner taking notes

notes on loveday heptane
here's all the information about loveday that i found during my tlt reread!
(you can find the rest of the posts for this project here!)
LOVEDAY HEPTANE
titles:
Cytherea’s cavalier, second gen, from the seventh
notes:
“I didn’t want to do it [lyctorhood] either…I didn’t want to do it at all…but I was dying. Loveday- she was my cavalier- she and I thought it could make me live. Instead I’ve just kept dying, all this time.”- Cytherea, to Palamedes (gtn. pg. 402)
"I had a nice girl as a cavalier too… once." -Cytherea, to Camilla (gtn. pg. 415)
“And I knew [Cytherea] was sick, but I had no idea how bad it was until Loveday brought her in, looking as though she wanted every one of us beaten to death” - John, about Cytherea and Loveday (htn. pg. 119)
"'I will say this,' said Mercy presently, acting as though Augustine had never said a word. ' I never mourned for Loveday Heptane. She did one good thing with her life, and she knew it." (gtn. pg. 122)
The only nice thing God can say about her in his eulogy of her is that she provided Cytherea for them (htn. pg. 122)

something something loveday being generally loathed by all the other lyctors and treated as if her only value was being the vehicle through which cytherea could ascend something something naberius being generally disliked by everyone in canaan house and then later treated by ianthe as nothing but a tool for her own ascension (inside of cytherea’s lab no less) and yet both he and loveday continue to haunt the narrative, forever lurking in the background of their necromancers lives

Cytherea holding Gideon during the siphoning trial hits so hard on re-read. You know she's probably looking at Gideon and seeing Loveday in her place.
"It's not worth it... none of this is worth it, at all." She's speaking from nearly 10,000 years of experience and grief. I'm going to lose it.
