are you going to watch the new bridgerton queen charlotte series? i’m kind of intrigued but also the fact that they’re playing fictionalised versions of real people whom i know too much (negative things) about slightly gets me. i’d love to know your thoughts!
i’m going to eventually, i just have not had time - i really like too many of the characters already not to. i personally engage with bridgerton as total historical fantasy. it is a bit irksome that they use the names of real monarchs to me too but i guess they thought it would be weird to set a story in 19th century england and ignore the actual history of the fact. queen charlotte’s existence in the show is warranted, i think, because of the “explanation” that her marriage to george incited social change (that in itself is criticizable but the point is that she has a reason to exist as she is). because the tone of the show is clearly meant to be less serious and more or less just use the historical aspect of it as a backdrop to the romance - which is the focus - and that aspect is actually often neglected in favor of Artistic Choices i personally see it as pretty harmless, but i also totally understand why people would not want to engage w it
#it’s always a bit complicated to portray people of color in period dramas because you have to deal with colonialism in some way#either you ignore it and just blindcast or you come up with an explanation to do away with racism - like bridgerton did#both approaches have their pros and cons and both have people that are vehemently for and against it#honestly because bton is so unserious and focused on the romance as i said i really think they could’ve gone without the social explanation#and the implications that came with it#i don’t think it’s a show that is ready/willing to offer much worthwhile commentary on that kind of issue#they drop the ball on a lot of things#i do think it’s important that they try tho? it’s 2023 all white period pieces are just unacceptable#there’s not one way to move forward w them but yeah fictionalizing actual historical figures always comes with some weirdness#it all comes down to the kind of show/film it is personally for me but then again. it’s totally understandable to be turned off by it#elegantlyloquacious#what is my ask tag again

How I think the Mane 6 would blog on tumblr
Twilight Sparkle; would have a huge tagging and side blog system for colors, themes, characters, theories, pairings, and 2 designated tags for her friends, one for their posts and one for posts that make her think of them. Does a lot of science and language posting, as well as magic. Vent posts about her studies in a very poetic way. Never hits post limit after becoming a princess cause she doesn't have the time
Pinkie Pie; only tags she uses are various emojis and keysmashes, but if you take time to translate them you find that the emojis do actually have a system and many refer to her friends. Reblogs basically everything and anything so long as it makes her laugh, hits post limit a lot and has a queue that will never empty. Occasionally you'll see the most amazing baked goods ever made with the caption "made this for funsies lmao 😂😂😋😋"
Rainbow Dash; tags her interests, which means she has a wonderbolts tag, a weather tag, and a daring do tag. Otherwise she just scrolls and reblogs with occasional commentary, fairly standard user. Lots of wlw stuff tho, and a sideblog full of frou frou stuff she likes but doesn't want anyone to know about. She posts stunt fails a lot, but not hers. Lots of fanfic links tho. Hits post limit once or twice a month, more on DD release months
Fluttershy; very aesthetic based, literal cottage core. But also occasionally you'll see death metal and chaos stuff pop up because she meant to put em on a side blog but just can't always remember. No ask box at all cause she can't deal with answering them. When she hits post limit she apologizes for disappearing the next day. summary: There is always a chance to a mission going south, casualties are expected, you just wished Ghost wasn't one of the involved.

Your heart was racing, the smell of blood and gunpowder invading your nose and making you want to puke, not because you weren’t used to it, but the despair and adrenaline you felt after watching Ghost take three shots and drag him the best you could out of there weren’t really helping.
You didn’t know and didn’t care how you managed to lift the man and carry him inside of an abandoned house, but thank god you did, the shots could be heard all around you but it didn’t matter now, you just needed to find something to stop the bleeding and fast, it was hard to see where exactly the bleeding was coming from, thanks to his stupid full black gear, but it was impossible to ignore the wetness you felt while holding his waist.
You knew Ghost was trying to tell you something, probably spitting orders to you to leave him and find somewhere safe, and of course you ignore him completely, like you would ever leave him bleeding to death because of some stupid mission they sent all of you. You left him sitting against the wall, so you could throw all of the things over the table to the ground.
– Sergeant, it’s an order! Leave and find a safe spot fo- Fuck! – He complained loudly when you pressed one of his wounds while picking him up, helping him to lay down on the table.
– Sergeant, it's an order! – You mocked the man in the best british accent you could at the moment, while desperately looking everywhere for something to help you.
Finding some shirts that looked clean enough you went back to him, throwing the shirts beside him and taking the small bag with the first aid kit you carried with you, exactly for moments like this, but god, how you wished it was someone else, not him.
Ghost still tried to move and spit orders at you, and you were sure you were going insane by his attitude. When he tried once again to get up while you tried to organize the few first aid stuff you had something possessed you, pushing him down with all the force you could gather, hearing a loud thud with a loud groan from the man.
– Shut your fucking mouth, stay still, and let me work! – You screamed while taking your knife to cut his top gear.
Maybe it was the pain and the strong want to rest, but Ghost couldn’t push you away like he wanted to, he could feel the pain of you trying to take out the bullet who stayed inside him, complains escaping his lips while you tried to make him stay still. You were no medic, both knew that, but there were not a lot of options at the moment, and you wouldn’t let him die here, not like this, not when you can do something.
His head was spinning, the panic of knowing he didn’t have a lot of time left starting to creep inside him, unconsciously reaching for your arm, holding it with all the strength he had left, you stopped briefly to hold his hand, a reassurance squeeze while you smiled softly at him.
His eyes were out of focus, but they were always on you, his breath slowly going more heavy and slow, starting to shiver uncontrollably while the want to sleep was controlling his body.
Noticing his reaction you ran to take some more clothes to throw over him, you were acting in a panic, both your arms and body covered with Simon’s blood, screaming at your radio begging for anyone to come and save him while you finally managed to stop all his bleeding, but you still had lost a lot.
The smell of blood was nauseating, it covered both your bodies and the ground, you held Simon close to you to make sure he was warm, whispering sweet things everytime he would take a sharp breath, caressing his face so he knew he was going to be ok, even if you left a trail of his own blood over his mask, hoping he didn’t feel the way your body shaked, how your breath was out of control and your voice was heavy with sadness and despair.
But he felt, all of it, every tear that fell on his face alongside with his own, he heard the way you cursed at the radio for not getting an answer. It broke his heart, knowing how he wasn’t going to be able to tell you everything he felt, how he appreciated every time you would refuse one of his orders just to make sure he was ok, the way your smile made everything wrong with him disappear and fill him with a warm feeling that he got addicted to.
He hated to know he was going to be the reason for your future sleepless nights, that the image of him in your arms covered in blood was going to be the last thing you saw. He didn’t want to give you pain, he wanted to see you smiling, to touch your face, just one last time, but his arms refused to obey, only his eyes allowed him to look at you, but even them now had started to fail him, closing on their own.
He didn’t want to close his eyes.
But he was so tired…

You don’t know for how long you hugged him.
How many times you checked if he was still breathing.
How many times you called his name without an answer.
But Price and the rest finally found you, and you knew he still breathed, his heart still beating, even so slowly that you almost couldn’t feel it. If you just run fast enough to a hospital he could make it, he was going to make it, he needed to.
Everything was a blur the moment they took him from you. You remember vaguely two medics taking care of him, the sound of the propellers from the helicopter, Price trying talking to you but the words refused to come to you, watching how Simon’s chest still moved, the very subtly movement he would make sometimes, completely focused on see if he was still alive.
Gaz and Soap forcefully carrying you away from following Ghost, them asking an annoying amount of time if they could take out your gear, the sensation of water hitting your skin, watching how it falled clean from your head to the rest of your body only to hit the ground with a mixture of dirt and blood, not your blood, your mind insisted to remember. Voices that you knew were Soap and Gaz asking you things you didn’t care about while they dressed you again, you needed to see him.
You didn’t eat, you didn’t drink, you only sat at the waiting room from the hospital to wait for the results, Price, Gaz and Soap alongside you the whole time.
It was a long and painful eleven hours.
The moment a nurse called for Captain Price, all of you almost jumped to run to them, but you must have been more tired than expected, because you saw yourself walking slowly to the nurse, in an attack of anxiety trying to analyze her posture and gesture.
Was it good or bad news? Did you really want to know? What would you do if he was gone? Why were you feeling like this anyway? Sure you loved Simon, you were pretty sure you loved him the first time you saw him, that intimidating man who refused to let his guard down, but you never told him so, limiting yourself to protecting the man who didn’t need protection, or so he told you millions of times. So what if the only time he needed you, you failed him?
You couldn’t understand a word of what the rest of the group was saying, when did your vision get so blurry and your face so wet? The longer you tried to control your breath and heartbeat the worse it becomes. A strong pain in your chest caused by the intensity of your feelings made you hold your shirt tightly, your legs almost giving in on you, managing to stay up thanks to Gaz holding you at the last second.
Voices mixing together, the lights were too bright, you just wanted to see him, you needed to know he was ok.
Please, please, be ok Simon, please, don’t die, don’t die, don’t die-
You must have been saying it out loud, because suddenly you felt Price holding your face with both hands and forcing you to look at him.
– He is ok, lad, he came out fine from the surgery, he is sleeping in his room. He will be ok. – Price smiled at you, an almost forced smile to mask all the worry in his eyes, while you finally managed to breathe properly.
Cleaning your tears with his thumb, hugging you tightly while gently caressing your head, Gaz and Soap joining the hug soon after.
He was going to be ok.

Have we even talked about the trans implications of being a god of change...

When I say 'incidental' at the beginning I'm saying it feels incidental and artificial and then go on to partially deconstruct the idea that it actually is incidental and give examples of why it's not. This is not a full analysis which is why the concept is not explored with the clarity and structure that that would imply, but I'm not actually calling gender irrelevant to the game because it's clearly an ongoing part of the text. I didn't intend this to get reblogged at all much less with responses to my tags, so any issues you have with my rambles are due to lack of clarity and finished thought, due to them being rambles, not a correct understanding of my actual point.
Anyway I think there's tons of interesting analysis to be done about how the game approaches gender, and I don't have the energy or interest to actually analyze about it right now which is why I was more just spitballing about it. What's most interesting to me tho is that contradiction where the Princess being perceived as a woman seemingly has nothing to do with anything, yet is ever present as a commentary on agency and perception, and how people who have experienced misogyny will connect with that. I am also fascinated by the Genderlessness/Genderfulness of the Shifting Mound as an entity of change, how she appears so very feminine but her entire philosophy rejects the idea of simple classification, etc.
As a transmasc nonbinary person the ideas of being perceived as female/feminine (and therefore feeble, innocent, alien, small, stupid, etc etc) and the idea of having a feminine role that doesn't quite or always fit me assumed by others despite that are ideas that resonate a lot. I have lots of thoughts and they're unorganized!
#slay the princess#i feel like gender is so incidental and aesthetically shallow in the game#it has at once no meaning and so much meaning#like the princess is never assumed incapable or deceiptful or weak or simple because she's implicitly a woman#and her being a woman is almost never remarked on#but it's there subtextually in how the narrator and we impose on her agency and she has to continually defend and insist on it#in how she represents an ideal and sometimes even an object#it's not as if there's intentional in universe sexism on the part of the player or the narrator#but they way they perceive and interact with the princess reflects real experiences#with misogyny and being perceived as female#but the princess and especially the shifting mound defies a lot of the perceptions put on her#with the shifting mound describing herself as abstract and fluid concepts and emphasizing change#she is everything#and she is so beyond small human ideas and roles even if she deigned to think of them#so the feminine princess is more than incidental#but ultimately inconsequential

you seem to have a good read on HQ and your takes are great, so i have a question...and if you'd rather not go there, please ignore this! but i see oikawa get called "arrogant" quite often and i'm curious, would you say he is? what is it that makes people think that?
imo he has a plenty of flaws, but i truly don't think arrogance is one of them. self-centered, sure, but not arrogant i think. i'm open to being wrong, i'm just legit so confused by that particular criticism, it makes me doubting my reading comprehension. i feel like that one post that's like "free my man, he didn't do that. he did a lot of other stuff tho" LOL. if you do answer this, then thanks for your time!
oh, dear anon. this is a very very big question and i'm honored you think i am capable of providing an answer that does it justice!! i don't consider myself an oikawa expert by far, but i'll do my best because he's still very beloved to me, and i hope whatever i say helps!
(but also - maybe take what i say with a grain of salt LMAO)
anyways, to get the main point out of the way: i completely agree that oikawa isn't arrogant! i actually haven't seen any commentary about that myself (bless!!!), so i can't say for sure why some people might think that, but my guess is that they think his pridefulness = arrogance — they think that the confidence he has in himself and seijoh contributes nothing to their actual power and is utterly meaningless if they don't win, especially in the face of ushijima. which, like, come on. what kind of captain would he be if he wasn't confident in himself and his teammates? is he supposed to tell them that they're going to lose??? is he supposed to discourage their hard work and effort???
or maybe it's because oikawa acts like he's all that, but doesn't have anything to show for it. who does he think he is? what does he think his pride is worth? what right does he have to go around making grand declarations when he has nothing to his name?
(which isn't entirely true, either, but we'll get into that, promise.)
now, do i think that he can, occasionally, be flippant, shallow, and/or petty? yeah, sure. he's got one hell of a personality about it. even iwaizumi says as much. oikawa is great at being a little shit. it's one of my favorite things about him!
but is oikawa genuinely arrogant, or self-centered? well . . . i don't think so.
see, here's the thing about oikawa: he knows he's good, but he doesn't think he's good enough. i think it'd be easiest to really explain what that meant if we broke this down into two separate parts, so let's give it a go, shall we?
(buckle up, friends, because it's about to get LONG. also: TIMESKIP SPOILERS!! and there's a tldr at the start of the tags because. WOW.)
so, first things first: if people are calling oikawa arrogant, then i'm like 99% sure that they don't actually know what the word "arrogant" means.
"arrogant" is used to describe someone full of themselves. it's used to describe someone conceited and pompous. it's used to describe someone so assured of and invested in their self-importance that they don't care for other people, and if it seems like they do, then it's usually wildly off the mark and still serves to inflate their own egos.
oikawa has never once been like that. he's been pretty much the exact opposite, in fact.
and yeah, sure, by his third year of high school, he knows he's good at volleyball, and that's fine! it's perfectly all right to claim you're good at something if you have the skills/experience to back it up. confidence is healthy as long as it isn't in overabundance, and we actually see a lot of this throughout the series!
(not to mention that this was where ushijima fell short. he was overflowing with confidence. he did not believe, for even a single second, that hinata shouyou and his meager, scrappy little flock of crows could beat him.
but oikawa? he knew. he knew what it looked like to make something bloom.)
the key to oikawa's confidence that made him better was that he could pinpoint others' strengths and weaknesses just as well as he could with his own. and (bear with me, please, i might get kind of boring here bc it's nothing that hasn't been said in the manga before) i don't mean it in the way we see the coaches or more analytical players do, as observations to be taken advantage of by everyone else; i mean that in the sense of how vital it is to his position as a setter. that was always the biggest difference between oikawa and kageyama: no matter how much more raw talent kageyama had, no matter how much better oikawa believed him to be, kageyama, especially in the beginning, struggled to do what oikawa could with a team. kageyama struggled to bring out the best in each player. and it wasn't because he didn't know how -- oikawa freely admitted that kageyama had the skill for it, that kageyama, once he got his shit together, could win against him -- it was because kageyama didn't have that same confidence in himself.
(not until much later, anyways. but that's another story, for another time.)
so, oikawa's confident. he knows he's good. he can bring out the best in each player. he's got a killer serve (and a killer smile!), a mind for tactics that borders on machievallianism, and cherishes the trust he is given like it's something precious. his coaches let him lead without leaning on them. his team has the utmost respect and admiration for him. he has a reputation. from karasuno to shiratorizawa to the whole of miyagi -- there is not a single character who knows oikawa tooru and would believe that he is, in any way, bad at volleyball.
but it's not enough. despite all of that, oikawa still doesn't think he's good enough. and that, friends, brings us to the second point.
oikawa tooru is nothing if not passionate.
so were the others, of course. kageyama kept going after his grandfather's death. hinata kept going while being a nobody from nowhere with no one to back him up. atsumu kept going while osamu didn't. it's not even about just those who went pro -- kenma, kuroo, noya, and everyone else found things that they were passionate about and kept going with it. the entire story revolves around loving what you do and trying to keep that love alive, and, sometimes, that can be really, really difficult when it seems like it doesn't love you back.
oikawa was so insecure over kageyama to the point where he nearly decked the poor kid. oikawa got crushed by ushijima-- who kept telling him that his team was not good enough, that his choices were not good enough, that there was nothing good enough to be proud of -- for years in a row. oikawa was taught that there would always be someone better than him no matter how skilled he was, but if he let that stop him then he didn't fucking belong on the court in the first place.
oikawa tooru is intimately acquainted with not being good enough, but he keeps trying to be. he keeps going. he tries to keep the love alive even if he's not loved back. he pushes and practices and takes a plane far from home to become even better. even if he doesn't have the skill, even if he doesn't have the talent, even if he doesn't have the love -- he still has his pride. and what does that mean, in the end? how far does that take him?
in the end, oikawa tooru walks across a world stage and sees people who believed in him on the other side and calls it a family reunion. in the end, he gets to play the volleyball that reminds him of why he loves it and how it gives him so much love back. in the end, his pride is unyielding and unbreakable, a product of the forge. he molded it with his own two hands. he will not let it falter so easily.
arrogance would not have taken oikawa tooru this far. i hope this has proven that he is anything but.
remember: instinct is something you polish. talent is something you make bloom. and never, ever let anyone else tell you what your pride is worth.

First things first, thank you so much for voting, reblogging, liking, following, and sending in requests. This blog passed 250 followers this week, which is very cool. It is so fun to see how you guys vote, and going through your requests has been a great way to learn a little more about wrestlers that I'm often not super familiar with. My pinned post has been updated with links to the results table and a CSV for my fellow spreadsheet nerds.
Thank you also for being cool about my request regarding violent tags. I haven't had to block anyone yet, and I hope it stays that way.
As for this week's polls, it is VERY amusing to me that you all prefer regular Kane to Corporate Kane by 31 points. That is a LOT. Corporate Kane scored lower than The Boogeyman, who will probably always be my yardstick for smashability. Are you doing better than The Boogeyman? Then you can't be doing too badly.
Around 1/4 of you are clown fuckers! Sinn Bodhi scored 27.3% smash, while a couple weeks ago, Doink the Clown scored 28.3% smash.
Wheeler Yuta tied Orange Cassidy, with both of them getting 77.1% smash. OC received more votes overall (and therefore more smash votes). Looks like Best Friends truly is the most fuckable faction.
Max Caster got 59.2% smash to Anthony Bowens' 74.8%. I'm curious to see how they do as a pair, and what happens when Billy Gunn enters the arena.
