“Balthazar knew not to go into the trap. He smelled the salted herring, his absolute favorite, and followed his antennae, only to be disappointed, and a little angry, when saw the fish suspended in a cage. The humans thought they were so clever, dropping their traps all over the sea floor. But Balthazar knew better than to go for the bait, and he had let all the other lobsters know too. He had traveled far and wide to spread the word, and many months had passed since those cages were filled with his kin.”

Admittedly this is only loosely historical but whatever lol. During the Sakoku period the Dutch were some of the only foreigners allowed in Japan, and the two countries engaged in trade extensively. I can imagine that these two probably smonked some schtuff together during trade-related visits... Realistically these two wouldn’t be able to see each other often, given the distance between them and that Ned would probably not be allowed to stay for very long (since he’s only supposed to be there for commerce and such). The few times these two got to see eachother were probably really important for the both of them. I see Nedpan as a “chill together” type of couple, where they’re perfectly content with each other’s company in a mundane sort of setting. They just want to be together in a calm place, y’know?
I’m not a great artist but I’m trying to improve, and with the rarepair week coming up I can contribute something to the church of Nedpan. Bless.

“10. Their shells were once used to make golf balls. Shells left over after lobster processing are usually tossed into landfills. So in an effort to make them worth something and keep the money in the lobster industry, a University of Maine professor created golf balls with a core made out of lobster shells. They’re also biodegradable, designed for golfing on cruise ships or courses near oceans and lakes. The problem is they only go about 70 percent of the distance of a regular golf ball, so you won’t see them at the U.S. Open anytime soon. 11. Once upon a time, they were the go-to prison food. In the colonial era, only the poor, indentured servants, and prisoners ate lobsters because they were cheap, too plentiful, and considered “tasteless.” After prisoners in one Massachusetts town got sick of eating them all the time, a new rule said they only had to eat them three times a week.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/time.com/3184569/11-lobster-facts-that-will-leave-you-shell-shocked/%3famp=true AMERICAN RED LOBSTER Design: Patricia Crawford Paper: gift wrapping, 30”x30” #origami #instaorigami #paperflexn #origamiartist #origamifun #origamilove #origamilover #paperfolding #origamifolding #paperoflexia #paperliscious #paperart #foldingpaper #origamiwork #origamilove #foldoftheday #prisma #lobster #lobsters #lobsterart #americanredlobster #redlobster #redlobsters (at Palmdale, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIKsiyWJbBW/?igshid=wz6udua4pb3w
