Ninjago au where the movie is a reincarnation of the series pre DR
Morro and Lloyd are bio cousins now(movie), they weren't before(series).
Morro remembers what happened at Stixx. Lloyd does not. Morro remembers EVERYTHING about his (and Lloyd's cuz of the possession thing) past life. Lloyd remembers none of it.
The other ninja remember none of it.
Morro is the only one who knows.
And he feels guilty because he is watching this sweet little boy grow up, and he doesn't understand why- HOW- he could ever hurt him.
Then Lloyd goes to middle school. The bullying starts. That sweet little boy is being HURT. And Morro is there to see it happen.
So Morro steps in to help. And things get better for Lloyd. He still gets rude looks and mean comments, but things are good.
Until high school starts. Morro graduates and moves out, sure that it won't get worse than that.
But it does.
Morro is now forced to watch as this once sweet boy is hurt for things he can't control, things he had no choice over.
And he realizes, he did this before. He hurt Lloyd for things that were out of his control. That was him.

Just a little rant on Llorumi
I feel like the controversy and arguments on llorumi have died down now (or maybe i'm just a social recluse who knows) but anyways, though people say that the ship is problematic and toxic and abusive etc., i truly think that the two of them as characters have incredible compelling parallels.
As Harumi said, they are truly "kindred spirits" because both are essentially two sides of the same coin. Let me explain:
Both have experienced a loss of parent(s) - Harumi her parents and Lloyd his father (who's been a more active parental figure in his life compared to Misako let's be real).
Both know how it feels to be abandoned, though this one is complicated one - from what I gather, Harumi feels as she was abandoned by her heroes, because they failed to save her parents (I'll go through this in further detail below) while Lloyd was left in a boarding school by his mother.
Both have been thrust into high standard titles and thus, hold lots of responsibilty on their shoulders. - Lloyd being the Green Ninja and Harumi becoming Princess of Ninjago.
However, the one thing that sets them apart is the way that they percieve these life experiences.
For example, Lloyd grieved that he had to banish his own father and he felt his father's absence for a few seasons but he moved on in a way, yet he still loved his father, up until, well, you know. Harumi on the other hand, while she did grieve, she was overcome with the rage of "betrayal" and she held onto this rage, leading her to desire revenge. Lloyd could've taken the same route as well, he could've exact revenge on Chen, since it was Chen's war that lead to Garmadon deciding to sacrifice himself.
Crystalized and March of Oni does a great job of conveying Lloyd's anger, because while both of them hold onto their anger for a while, Lloyd doesn't lash out and ressurect one of Ninjago's most well known villains in an attempt to "save" the city. While obviously everyone has different opinions on Lloyd's arc in Crystalized, it makes sense that Lloyd's anger is what they decide to put focus on. Dude's literally having to work with his technically-evil dad, and has to fight his ex-gf again and kind of relive certain bits of trauma. On top of that, he has to tap into a darker side of his heritage, while trying to prevent himself from becoming his father (his overall fear). I'll rant about Crystalized in another post.
Anyways, returning back to topic, the dynamic and parallels between the two of them is what makes their scene in Game of Masks (Harumi's reveal episode) so compelling and thrilling, not just because Lloyd is going through the worst kind of heartbreak (my poor boi :(( ) but also because on a deeper level, these two are the literal representation of like calls to like.
Yes I made a Shadow and Bone reference in a Ninjago post - fight me.
Another example is the fact that both found a home of some sorts, yet while Lloyd found a family that built and raised him to be a hero, Harumi was taken into a family that has strict and heavy traditions, and its obvious from the way that Harumi doesn't consider the Emperor and Empress her parents that she hates them, so she is raised under a negative perspective and thus, turns to her revenge plans as a sort of method to treat her grief and pain.
However, it isnt healthy for either of them in their current stages of character development (post-Crystalized) to be in a romantic relationship. Harumi's short "redemption" isnt enough for them to canonically be in a relationship. Both need immense therapy and they have to confront their issues if either even want to be in a relationship together. If writers plan on putting them together, I would hope that they first confront the issues and history these two have, and then slowly build their relationship.
Or even, they don't need a relationship to heal. All I ask is that writers give them both the healing they deserve.
But that doesnt mean that people should be attacked for shipping them. A ship is just a ship, canon or not.
Still, I admire the parallels in the writing of both their backstories and the fact that both have a certain "love" for Garmadon (in my opinion, Harumi has an obsession but that's a discussion for another time).
It is quite funny though, that their sort of relationship is a kind of lovers to enemies to...allies? Honestly idk, but I love that the Ninjago writers gave us these kinds of parallels in characters. But these two greenies are not the only ones! The amount I could write on parallels in Ninjago...oof.
(Also, I'm not tagging this as a ship post, but idm if anyone reblogs this as the ship).

Legoland day 1!
It was supposed to rain today but it was fine in the morning, a lil misty but nothing too bad. Started pouting after lunch though and we ended up leaving early but it was still decently fun. The theme park was smaller than I expected but that's ok, less strain on my legs (fuck you chronic pain). Theres a special ninjago weekend event going on so theres more ninjago than normal and at each activity you get a sticker and once you get 5 you get a prize but I am determined to get them all
Here's what we did:
Went on the lego factory ride. It was alright but I lost my water bottle and we had to stop and turn off halfway through cause of some baby so that probably made things worse (dw I got my water bottle back at the end of the day)
Went on the ninjago rides which were kinda underwhelming but still fun
My family abandoned me in the ninjago gift shop but it was like candyland in there
Got THOROUGHLY distracted by the ninjago playground thing they had. It was like 2 cubes at an angle and the inside was a maze also at the same 45° angle and it was a ton of fun I will be going back in there tomorrow
Split up from my sister and dad cause the show going on outside the ninjago ride was too loud for her (kinda too loud for me too but I needed the sticker)
Helped build a giant serpentine so I could get a sticker
There were these lil scavenger hunt type things, one about which weapon each ninja uses and one about a secret phrase ninja must live by (never put off until tomorrow...) but I already knew the answers so they just gave me the sticker
Took a picture with Lloyd! There was like no line and he was so goofy looking and I high fived him
(Exiting the ninjago area) went on my first real roller coaster (don't make fun of me I know I'm a pussy) and had a ton of fun. It wasn't too intense and it was pretty short but it was a blast and I'm gonna do it again tomorrow
Met back up with the rest of my family for lunch. I had the saddest school-quality sliders and stole some of my mom's actually good french fries. Sister got a MEAT STICK (giant turkey leg) which appearantly had a sauce that was made with coca cola
Went into lego city where my sister played one of their Carnival games and got a lil axolotl plushie as a prize then made me carry it because I'm the only one who thought to bring a decent sized bag
Went to go see the 4d ninjago show but they had absolutely no information about what time it was at so we ended up seeing lego mythica instead which I did not care for
Went to the pirate area and looked around but it was raining heavily so we couldn't really do mucu
Went back to the theater and ACTUALLY saw the 4d ninjago thing. It had similar energy to the wu's teas clips, especially the ones where they drink the teas they shouldnt. The main gimmick of the 4d thing was spraying water in my face which got old really fast
Headed back to the ninjago area to see a show that was canceled due to the rain and learned that another show and the dance party were also canceled. Did still get the stickers for the other 2 though :D
I wanted to play the ninjago carnival games cause there was a prize I really wanted (NINJA ORB) only to discover that it was not what I thought it was. I thought it was a giant fluffy plush sphere with a lil ninja face on it but turns out it was actually a rubber ball with a fluffy skin. I was heartbroken. Tried to win it anyways but it's harder than it looks. I might get it tomorrow then take it home, pop the ball, skin it and stuff it to be what I wanted but idk.
Got a super cool sexy limited edition collectors item ninjago legoland ny cup for way too much money
Headed back to the entrance to meet up with the other part of my family in The Big Store and then proceeded to loose them in The Big Store. My dad and sister both got giant really expensive lego sets and my mom got the lego Orchid set. I got a croissant.
Overall the day was ok but could have gone much better. I'm glad I'm headed back tomorrow cause there's alot of stuff I couldn't do due to the rain and also I still need to buy stuff. There's a few thing that really stood out to me but I'm not sure exactly what I'm gonna get. My dad really wanted the giant lego flowers they have around the park but alas they do not sell them. Now we're just chilling in the hotel room letting our clothes dry until dinner. I'll let yall know how tomorrow goes. Gonna put all the pictures from both days in a different post because this one is plenty big enough already.

do you have any dareth hc you'd be willing to share?
😳 Dareth oooooooOHHHHHH!!!!! GODDDDDDDD WARNING FOR AN EXTREMELY LONG POST
Dareth smokes weed (dont let his students know)
Dareth has done many drugs and recommends not to do any of them except for shrooms.
Doing drugs all the time was when he lived on his friends couch for like 3 years. That is probably also when he did a lot of music. He looks back on that time really fondly. He had fun!
OK ENOUGH OF THE DRUG HEADCANONS---
Dareth grew up in Ninjago City but his grandparents are probably from the Ninjago equivalent of Greece or something. This is purely because I want to headcanon his last name as Dionysus because I think its hilarious (I KNOW ITS NOT A GREEK LAST NAME BUT--)
Random sketch of young Dareth (HE DOESNT LOOK ANY DIFFERENT LMAO) patrick star looking ass.
Tumblr media
Dareth was really popular in high school despite also being bullied all the time. He never let the haters get to him.
Dareth sucks athletically but was accepted into high school sports teams as a wild card
Dareth was a mix of prep / nerd. He had a fursona (brown wolf) and was ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with ninja!
Managed to be preppy from pure insistence on being the popular kids friend.
(Haha, the same thing kinda happened to him and the Ninja..... became a ninja team member by insisting on being their friend)
He first learned make up from popular girls during high school (probably Gayle Gossip)
Dareth was president of his high school GSA
Dareth wrote all of his history papers on the history of ninja even if it was completely fucking offtopic
Dareth has worked lots of different jobs. Literally every job you can think of and was bad at all of them.
I DREW ART OF WHAT I THINK DARETHS PARENTS WERE LIKE ONCE. I WILL SHOW THEM. THEY DONT HAVE NAMES THO
Tumblr media
By “RELIGIOUS” I mean “GYRISM” which is my headcanon for the fictional main religion of the realm of ninjago, where the FSM is seen as like, God I guess. Lol.
Due to Dareth’s religious parents and LOVING ninja history, Dareth probably knows WAY more than the Ninja. He probably starts spilling facts that the Ninja arent supposed to know, and Wu bonks him on the head with his staff to shut him up.
Dareth probably accidentally burned fast food joints down while working there but his coworkers were happy about it
Being a mall ninja was the longest job he ever kept. Like 5 years.
Dareth taught Critical Spin Theory at the ninja's school during S3. He was also the guidance counselor.
Idk why Dareth can talk to animals. hes just fucked up i guess! Love him so much.
I think when the Ninja split up between seasons 3-4, Dareth became more essential to the remaining Ninja team because there were no other options. Which was bad. He crashed the destiny's bounty probably on accident.
Dareth is a big advocate for the Ninja as protectors of Ninjago and will overshare private information about how they are really good people in order to try to convince the public.
DARETH IS NOT SEXIST. he is THE MOST BASED CHARACTER and extremely feminist. and that 1 sexist moment in season 6 DID NOT HAPPEN LIKE THAT. He is like the most supportive adult Nya knows.
The ninja are good friends with Dareth for the most part. They hate when he interferes but theyve kinda accepted that they can't stop him from interacting with them. He is closest with Nya and Lloyd because he is like a fun uncle to them.
Hes good with kids.
He sees Lloyd as a child when nobody else does (I think I already talked about this before)
Sometimes I think about how Dareth is actually very similar to Kai in personality but less aggressive and more energetic.
Dareth used the stone army for a bit until the helmet was confiscated by Wu. But before that, Dareth became friends with like 3 of the stone army. Now he doesnt control them they just vibe. They are employed at his bar.
I think Dareth was probably a taxi driver for a hot minute around like... S7.
Dareth actually DID figure out how to use spinjitzu but hes just doing it really slowly
He can also use airjitzu really slowly but he falls back down so its just walking
He actually doesn't know how to walk and just uses airjitzu to move
Heres a random sketch I found of Dareth doing a john lennon type walk
Tumblr media
Dareth is VERY durable
Dareth could take the FSM in a fight ANY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dareth is messy in the show but I headcanon him as mostly organized and very hygenic. Things just get messy when hes too busy focusing on his crazy antics.
Crazy antics involve: searching for extinct species of animals in the woods or trying to beat a world record. Random shit. He just gets very focused on random things. Hes been like this his whole life.
The Spirit of the FSM looks down on Ninjago and sees Dareth there and is like.... what the fuck......?
He is NOT part of the FSM’s plan. #bendingfate
Whenever the Ninja need Dareth he is gone and whenever the Ninja DO NOT WANT DARETH TO INTERFERE he is there
Dareth thinks Wu is a nice guy :) Cool Jesus friend.
If the Ninja + Ninja allies formed a group discord server dareth would always be sending really really really weird blurry selfies.
Dareth makes himself seem better than he actually is, because it is very motivational.
Gayle Gossip was his best friend from high school who he is afraid to talk to after all these years!!!
He and Gayle Gossip were in GSA together. Also in History club together (Dareth would just talk about ninja).
Gayle also ran the school newspaper and would publish cool ninja art / facts in it for Dareth
Dareth and (SENSEI) Garmadon have had like 1 or 2 hookups. O_O
Dareth HAS A PET CAT named LITTLE LADY. She is brown and fuzzy and ugly. He found her when dumpster diving. He was dumpster diving for “ancient artifacts.”
Dareth identifies as a bear (bisexual)
Dareth is in his early 40s when he first shows up
I would make Dareth start greying after the S7-S8 timeskip. 😳😳😳 (SORRY I MIGHT BE GAY FOR DARETH)
Dareth can play saxophone good but forgot the difference between clarinet and saxophone. He started playing clarinet recently and just thinks "huh saxophones are different than I remember." Hes especially bad at clarinet because he keeps using saxophone reeds for it. He snaps them to make them fit. "Oh they must give you a little extra reed just in case"
OMG I JUST GOT MORE DARETH ASKS I AM GOING TO SHIT MYSELF THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER
Tumblr media
About Dareth being trans: Dareth is actually one of the few ninjago characters I actually hc as Cis just because I can absolutely envision him as the type of ally who asks EVERYONE what their pronouns are :D BUT DARETH BEING TRANS IS SO COOL and activates my gender envy for him even more....sigh.... maybe I can be dareth one day.....
About Dareth and Ronin: YOU LITERALLY JUST ASKED ABOUT THE NUMBER 1 THING I CARE ABOUT ON THIS PLANET!!! I AM ONE OF THE OG SCRUFFSHIPPERS. I WAS HERE WHEN THERE WAS ONLY LIKE 3 SCRUFFSHIPPING FAN ARTS :D
Tumblr media
Heres some older random sketches I found. Dareth and Ronin embracing I guess? Second one is Dareth in a suit I think it was supposed to be him looking at Ronin at their wedding and being in love???
DARETH AND RONIN ROMANCE HEADCANONS (I have a very inactive Scruffshipping headcanons sideblog btw, so if you’ve heard any of this before thats why):
I would make Dareth and Ronin first meet and start to develop feelings for each other in Shadow of Ronin. I have made this completely rewritten version of shadow of Ronin in my head and the B plot is EXTREMELY SILLY GAY SHIT. ITS TOO COMPLICATED TO EXPLAIN IN THIS 1 POST.
(Maybe I Should just quit ninjago respun and only do my shadow of ronin rewrite lmao lmao lmao)
Dareth finds Ronin extremely beautiful at first sight. (Ronin is disgusting. No hygiene. Smells like gasoline. Aging poorly.)
Ronin also finds Dareth really attractive but is NOT the type of person to easily be overtaken by a crush. And probably vowed to never love again or some overdramatic bullshit.
Ronin is a bit of a history nerd but with samurai, the opposite of Dareth, who likes Ninja. Probably one of the only things they disagree on -- which is better.
But Ronin really likes to hear Dareth go off about things. And thinks all the overconfidence is awesome. They can counteract Dareth’s fucks up, so Dareth sucking shit is not a big deal.
Dareth feels really validated by Ronin not trying to prove that hes a fraud. Dareth tells Ronin about how hes a valuable member of the ninja crew and Ronin doesn’t express their doubt.
Dareth asks Ronin what their pronouns are and that MAKES THE CRUSH GROW. (In my headcanon Ronin uses any pronouns but most people recently dont ask, and default to he/him. Which is fine to Ronin. But its just. So. Great. To hear someone ask. For once.)
Dareth asks lots of questions and it FUCKS RONIN UP (in a good and a bad way) since they are so private
Ronin is always playing 4D chess with every person they encounter but with Dareth they only need to play like... tic tac toe. It shocks them and only makes them want to be with Dareth more.
Dareth just thinks all the crimes Ronin commits are Fun Antics. Dareth has been evil with Ronin and not even realize its bad. Too distracted by how fun it is.
Ronin would try to find problems with Dareth, reasons to hate him. But theres none.
Ronin tries to put distance between themself and Dareth during Season 5. But would probably still ask the ninja “so... hows that Dareth guy doing?”
Ronin and Dareth’s first date would be at a normal restaurant. They dine and dash. But then they see like.... the Ninjago City Mob attacking the restaurant they just left. So then they go back and fight the mobsters. And what started as a simple date probably ends up as a whole adventure trying to take out the mob. (mostly Ronin. Dareth fucks up a lot and it makes Ronin chuckle).
Ronin will get mad if anybody insults Dareth. UNCALLED FOR!!!
They both hype each other up so much.
Dareth is one of the only people who knows about Ronins past and tries his best to accommodate for Ronin’s trauma. O_O lol lego angst
Ronin and Dareth get engaged at the end of Season 8 when they think the Sons of Garmadon have been defeated.
But then the bad shit happens and Ronin ends up getting imprisoned. So in the whole season 9 Dareth is really worried about their fiancee!!!!!!
But they would get to be married after that :) I PROBABLY HAVE MORE HEADCANONS BUT I CAN’T BE HERE ALL DAY! SORRY IF THERES TYPOS! THANKS FOR ASKING BYE!

(Sorry if any of this has been answered somewhere already) — for the Transcendence AU, how was adjusting to the new powers like? Did they instantly have a feel for it (a kind of ‘godly wisdom’) or where there a few angsty or comedic accidents along the way? Also— they all were (are?) teens, did they instantly mature or (at least in the early days of power/godhood) did one go “dude we could totally recreate vines but with our powers—“
oh hell yeah these are some great questions nonnie!
for the first part, it was kind of a mix of both! Becoming gods does kind of shove a lot of new knowledge into your head, but its not like having a handbook so much as its more like a feel for things you were previously unaware of, the universe becoming an extension of your body and mind, in a way. But even humans need practice to learn how to use their bodies to their full potential, so it wasn't just like instantly everything fell into place. They kind of spent the early part of their ascension (by which i mean, likely a couple hundred thousand years or so) in a bit of a euphoric haze in which they just, messed around, created and destroyed and recreated with reckless abandon, explored their new abilities and forms. The souls of the people of ninjago during this time were kept in stasis, so there were no living creatures around for this to effect. It wasn't until they calmed down a bit, settled into their roles and decided on a final shape of the world, that lloyd populated the planet with life.
as for the latter part, they are all teens (though I dont know if i ever made clear here, all of the ninja are 18 and in their last year of high school, minus lloyd who is 16, when they ascend), and absolutely retain a level of teenish immaturity, but godhood does kind of effect this over time. Its not... quiiite the same as growing older? They don't really get human life milestones anymore, but taking on the responsibilities of godhood + the amount of things they know that are just like, beyond human comprehension, does mean pinpointing their mental "age" on a human scale is just kind of impossible. Behaviorally its a total mixed bag though, half the time they're offering people the sort of insights and emotional clarity that would only come out of the mouth of someone whose lived a thousand lifetimes, and the other half of the time they're absolutely playing (harmless) pranks on humans and cracking jokes with each other and making references to memes that no longer exist. Their emotional volatility is also a bit higher than the gods from other realms (other gods don't seem to have the "god tantrums" problem, for instance), but its not clear if this is something that is due to them once being human, them once being teens, or is just a leftover quality of fsm.

Your heart freezes the moment his lips utter your name.
“How are you here...?” he mutters, but he’s cut off by Karlof punching his shoulder. His warm eyes linger on you a moment longer before you feel Skylor tugging you away from the scene. You want to say something, but the two seem to be fighting now.
“You know him?” she questions as you hear things escalating between the two elementals. The two of you settle on the edge of the ferry, legs crossed and arms resting on the railing.
“Yeah..” you mumble with a sigh, leaning your head on the railing as you close your eyes, feeling a little bit of seawater splash on your face.
“How?”
“He’s...kinda my ex?”
“Your ex?! Wait, when in the hell did that happen?”
“A few years ago, when we were both in high school. He ended up dropping out to focus on his blacksmith work, so we decided to break things off so we could work on our own things. We didn’t leave off on a bad note, though.”
“Really? What’s he doing here?”
“He must be an elemental too,” you mumble, biting your lip. “The Ninja of Fire. It would explain his hotheaded nature.”
Skylor glances over at him and Karlof going at it at the other side of the ship and chuckles. “Well, he is kind of cute, I guess.”
You scoff. “He is cute. But don’t let his stupid charm get to you.”
“His charm?”
“Trust me. He’s a cheeky little bastard and he knows it,” you mutter.
“I’ll keep it in mind,” she replies. The two of you cringe as you hear something crashing nearby.
The two of you are silent for a while, just listening to the crashing waves before Skylor asks:
“Does Lloyd know you exist?”
“I’m not sure how much he remembers,” you note sadly, your legs hanging over the side of the boat as you absentmindedly gaze at the water beneath you. “It’s been years since I last saw him. He might remember me. Or maybe he’ll just think I’m familiar to him somehow.”
“But Garmadon...”
“Im pretty sure he’ll recognize me.”
“Are you going to talk to him?”
“I don’t know,” you say, sighing. “I’m kind of scared to do it.”
“That’s understandable. At least you have the rest of the tournament to do it.”
“Yeah. I think it’ll happen naturally – especially if our battles are spectated.”
“I wouldn’t imagine us fighting without everyone else watching. It’d make the tournament more entertaining.”
“You’re right. I guess I will have to confront him soon.”
Skylor smiles, placing a hand over yours. “You can do it, okay?”
“I hope so,” you mumble, squeezing her hand. The two of you are quiet for a moment.
“What about you?” you ask, breaking the silence. “What happened after I escaped?”
She sighs, her expression dropping. “I stayed on the island until my dad let me start traveling to Ninjago. I was under pretty strict supervision, though.”
“I wish you could have come with me…”
“You know Clouse would have never let that happen. I was too weak when I was younger,” Skylor notes with a sigh.
“But you’re not weak now. You can break free from their grasp this time.”
“Maybe so, but it won’t be easy.”
You smile. “Maybe change will come for you by the time this is all over.”
“You might be right. You never know. I guess we’ll see, huh?”
The two of you are interrupted when Clouse’s voice sounds over an intercom system,
“All elemental masters, gather on the deck. We have arrived at Chen’s Island.”
“Here we go,” you mutter, standing.
With all of the elemental masters gathered on the dock of the ship, Clouse moves to lower a long piece of wood to the dock of the island, creating a makeshift bridge. You make sure to keep your head covered by your hoodie, feeling eyes bore into your back.
This is going to be one hell of a ride.
“Welcome to Chen’s Island. The Tournament of Elements welcomes its brave fighters.”
You see Clouse muttering something to Garmadon, but you’re not close enough to catch the exchange.
“Hmm…” you mumble, frowning. You have a feeling something’s going on here.
All of you are guided to a wide room that’s been lavishly decorated. An extravagant (and overdramatic) scene plays out as a familiar man enters the room on a floating chair. You know exactly who he is, and his presence only causes your scowl to deepen.
“All rise for Master Chen.”
“Welcome to the Tournament of Elements. Now, everyone can all di-“ Suddenly, the doors to the room slam shut as the others gasp. “-rect your attention to me!”
You roll your eyes, used to Chen’s stupid antics. This is going to be a long trip.
“Hee hee hee! Never before have so many Elemental Fighters been under one roof. I see Master of Fire, Earth, Shadow, Speed, even a prophesied Green Savior. And…two former pupils have returned.” Chen only glances at Garmadon when he says that, avoiding your gaze. Good.
He proceeds to point at the gong situated at the front. “This symbol before you is for the Anacondrai, fiercest Serpentine warrior to ever roam this land. Its creed: ‘Only one can remain.’”
Then, the gong opens to reveal what appears to be a bracket. In it lists the fights to happen during the first few rounds. You hear people murmuring upon seeing it.
“Behold, a Jadeblade. Here, it represents life. Obtain it, move on. Allow your opponent to take it, loser! The rules are simple. Every match will be different. No two fights will be the same. Your powers will keep you in the tournament. Use it or lose it.”
He brings up a point - you know your element is going to get exposed at some point, but when? When should you expose it? Would it be better to use it at the get-go or to hide it until the time is right?
Something tells you that Chen isn’t going to let you hide your power for long, though. Which means you’ll have to face confrontation with your father and brother soon. Well, that’s the reason you came, so…maybe you should just cut to the chase and get it over with?
“Hm, what does Karlof win?” questions the Master of Metal.
“Win and stay on the island. Win it all, and you'll receive fortunes beyond your wildest dreams, and lifetime supply of Master Chen noodles. But no one is here because of noodle. You want the glory of being the greatest fighter in all of Ninjago!”
Not really. You want to get out of here as fast as you can. Riches and noodles be damned, you’re here to mend what’s left of your broken family no matter how much it daunts you.
“And what happens if they lose?” Garmadon wonders.
He must be thinking what you’re thinking – something is really off with this whole thing. Why would Chen want all the Elemental Masters gathered in one place? Why is he letting you and Garmadon, both known traitors, in on this? What’s his plan?
Despite your questions, you tune into Chen’s answer.
“Lose? Who here likes to lose?”
In response, all of the other masters laugh except for you, Skylor, and the ninja.
“Now please, enjoy my island. It's a super fun happy place.” Chen laughs. “Fun time on me!”
Clouse steps up with his hands tucked behind his back. “You’ll now each be shown to your rooms.”
After being escorted by the Kabuki, you enter your room.
“Hm…” you hum, closing the door as you take a look around.
As you had expected, it’s pretty nice – the walls are dark, accented with hints of your favorite color. There’s a fairly large bed built into one wall, and you notice something on the floor.
It’s a devil’s trap situated underneath and around the bed – but it’s…not painted on the floor. You frown, kneeling to examine it more.
It’s made of metal attached to the floor, and the metal is silver. It’s not a complete circle, though, which means it can’t trap you. That is, until you notice a hinged piece of metal. Curiosity piqued, you go to swing it around.
“Oh,” you say as realization dawns on you. “If I close this, it completes the circle. Then I’d be trapped. But, if it remains unhinged, or if I take the screw out, I can enter and exit freely.” Chen himself be damned, this is actually a pretty smart idea. But, on the other hand, that means this could be easily used against you. “Interesting. Phantom won’t like it, though.”
Speaking of your very own demon, you don’t see him anywhere. Maybe he just went to go get some snacks.
As a half-oni, you have a demon that lives inside your mind. You had met him when you were just a small child – your mind manifests him to appear as a tall, muscled man donning a baseball suit and bat. He has white hair and amber eyes that are concealed by his baseball cap, though you have seen his eyes double and turn red before. As you got older, he explained his name was The Batter, but he liked the nickname you gave him.
He scares you sometimes, but you know it’s necessary. Your father went through the same thing. On the bright side, you’re pretty used to his antics by now.
“Hm…” You frown, looking around. Other than the bathroom, there doesn’t seem to be much else of interest.
You stand for a few more minutes, wondering if you should go find Skylor when you hear someone knocking at your door.
“Huh? Who could that be?” you mutter, approaching the door and swinging it open cautiously. You only open it enough to see out with one eye.
Ah, I guess I should have expected this after earlier.
“Kai?” you ask, opening the door a little wider.
“Hey,” he says, smiling smally. “Can we, uh, can we talk?”
You nod, opening the door and stepping aside to let him in. You take a moment to examine him.
He had changed a bit since you last saw him – his muscles are much more toned now, and he dons a sleeveless red gi. He’s still the Kai you had loved, though. Hell, you don’t think you ever fully got over his disappearance.
“You bastard,” you mumble, going to hug him. “Why did you leave? Why didn’t you tell me? I was so worried about you guys after you just…vanished.”
He sighs, returning the hug. “My sister got kidnapped a few weeks after we broke things off. I went to go train with my sensei and the other ninja.”
“Dammit,” you mutter, taking a moment to inhale the scent you had missed so dearly. Smoky with a hint of cologne. That hadn’t changed one bit – in fact, it reminds you of how his blacksmith shop smelled.
“I’m sorry,” he mutters, pressing his lips to the top of your head. “I wanted to tell you…”
“Yeah, no, I get it. You weren’t the only one keeping secrets, after all.”
Kai nods, separating from you. You watch him as his dark eyes study your face. You don’t move when he quietly goes to pull your mask and hood down.
“I’ve missed you,” he says, his thumb rubbing your cheek. “Even though we’re not together anymore, I still missed you.”
You nod, understanding the feeling. “Me too.” You grab his wrist, tugging him to the edge of the bed, where the two of you sit down.
“So, you’re an elemental?” he wonders.
“Yeah. Remember all the weird stuff we experienced while I stayed those few weeks?”
Kai frowns, nodding. “How could I forget?”
“Well, it’s because I inherited my father’s power. But, because it’s such a dark power, I learned that I had another side – a demonic side. The demon haunting me – the one we named Phantom – is actually a part of me.” You sigh, rolling up the sleeve of your left arm and showing it to Kai. “But it’s not all bad, because he’s actually a pretty chill demon.”
Your arm is covered in a pattern of black tattoos, all swirling around and intertwining together. “That tattoo is my inner demon. The more I use my demon, the more these patterns spread. Once my entire body becomes covered, I will lose control.”
Kai takes your arm in his hand, tracing the patterns with his thumb. “They’re…kind of pretty. In a creepy way. But…who’s your father?”
You groan, bumping your forehead on his shoulder. “Garmadon.”
“Wait – Sensei Garmadon is your-!”
“Yes,” you say, sighing frustratedly as you stand and turn your back to him. “Once I got the message about this tournament, I figured that Lloyd would be here at least. I…want to tell him. But I’m just…”
“You’re scared,” Kai notes, standing too.
“Yeah. Very.” You pinch the bridge of your nose. “You know, shortly before I met you, I escaped this island.”
“Wait, what do you mean?”
“When my parents split Lloyd and I up, I was brought here with my father. I trained under Clouse’s guidance to master my element and to fight with and without it. A few years passed and I ended up making contact with Phantom one night, and he helped me escape. I haven’t seen my father, Clouse, or Chen since.”
“Holy shit…”
“I know.”
“Is…Phantom here now?”
“No, I think he’s trying to steal food from the kitchen now.”
“He still has that habit?”
“Yeah. That’s why all your fruit went missing when I was staying with you guys.”
He chuckles, coming up behind you to hug you. “Well, Miss Master of Destruction. I’m glad you’re here, even if we have to fight each other.”
A short laugh escapes you. “Me too. But if I have to endure any more of your shitty pickup lines, I might just ask Phantom to take me out of my misery once and for all.”
“They were good!” he defends.
“No, they weren’t.”
He huffs, puffing his stupid little cheeks out. “They worked on you!”
“Shut up,” you groan, pretending to be annoyed despite your small smile betraying you.
“Whatever. Hey, you should come meet my team!”
Ah, that’s right; he’s a ninja now.
“I will later, I think. I should probably get settled in for now. And I don’t think I’m quite ready to face Lloyd just yet.”
“But you can’t hide from them forever,” he points out, poking your cheek.
“Hey!” you cry, swatting his hand away as you scrunch your face and squirm out of his grasp. “I’m not hiding! Just…preparing myself.”
“Alright, fine. Can we just talk for a bit, then?”
You nod, turning towards him. “I’d like that.”
His face lights up as he smiles. A pang of nostalgia causes your body to shiver as you realize just how much you missed this idiot. Sure, the two of you are no longer together anymore, but he’d always be one of your closest friends. Him, Skylor, Ronin, and…
Let’s not even go there, you think bitterly, shoving your thoughts aside as you step up to the balcony of your room. You pull the sliding door open and step outside, taking a look at the view you have.
Your room overlooks the sea along with the initial section of Chen’s Island. You hear Kai stepping out beside you, his hands tucked away in his pockets.
“How’s Nya been?” you wonder.
“She’s been good. She’s all grown up now.”
“I bet she’s a nightmare now,” you say, smirking.
“She is. I’ll never admit it to her face but she absolutely is. She’d kick my ass any day. And so would you.”
“Damn straight,” you reply, opening your eyes. A figure from below catches your gaze, causing you to focus on it.
It’s…your father. He appears to be talking to someone through the front door.
Kai seems to know what you’re looking at.
“You should talk to him soon,” he says, voice softening. “It’ll be good for both of you.”
“I know, but…I have no idea what to say. I don’t know how to act around him. Or Lloyd. I don’t even know if Lloyd will recognize me. And that reminds me – why does he look so much older?”
“Uh…that’s a long story,” Kai responds, chuckling nervously. “I think he should be the one to tell you, though.”
You sigh, slouching against the wall and pulling your mask back over your nose. “Okay.”
Your ex remains silent for a moment as he watches Garmadon before shifting his gaze back to you. “Why do you wear that?”
“I have to keep my identity concealed for some of my missions,” you answer. “But also…because I hate not wearing it.”
“I can understand that,” he says, going to sit on the ledge of the balcony. He rests against the wall, left arm propped up on one of his knees as the other lays hanging off the side. You quietly study him as the breeze gently tousles his spiky hair.
A pregnant pause ensues as you turn your head back to where Garmadon was, flicking your hood over your head. You watch as your father steps away from the door, turning his back to it. After a few moments, Garmadon turns his head to meet your gaze.
You freeze.
He studies you, as you are him.
He looks so different than how I remember him. So much older. I guess I never truly realized just how much time has passed.
“What is it?” Kai asks, jumping off the ledge and stepping over to you.
You look away from your father, suddenly drained. You spy Kai waving to Garmadon, and sigh.
“He’s gonna question you.”
“I know,” Kai replies, chuckling. “I don’t really care.”
You shake your head, smiling as you retreat into your room. Kai comes in a few moments later.
“I should probably regroup with my team,” Kai speaks up. “We’re trying to find our teammate.”
“Zane, right?” you ask, turning towards him. “I…heard about what he did.”
“Yeah…we think he’s here somewhere.”
“I wouldn’t doubt it. Check every nook and cranny of your room. Chen likes his passageways. I’ll try to look around too,” you say, smiling before you frown. “Wait…sometime before I left this island, I recall there being a prison somewhere underground. I was sent there a few times, but I can’t remember how to get there.”
“A prison?”
You nod, sighing. “I’ll tell you later. Get back to your team. We’ll talk later, okay?”
A sad smile lines his lips as he steps closer to you, snaking his arms around your waist. You wrap your arms around his neck, nestling your chin into his shoulder and closing your eyes.
“Thank you,” he says softly.
“You’re welcome. I’ll let you know if I find anything.”
Soon enough, the sun begins to set. You’re sitting cross-legged on the floor, attempting to meditate so you can sort out your cluttered thoughts.
It’s not working very well.
“One more time,” you mutter to yourself, closing your eyes and reassuming your meditative position. A few moments later, though, a blaring voice interrupts your session:
“Fellow fighters!” You recognize the voice as Chen’s, and it’s emanating from the intercom situated on your wall.
“Hidden around my island are enough Jadeblades for every participant except for one. The one who returns to the palace arena empty-handed loses. The tournament begins...now! May the best fighter win!”
Your eyes widen as you immediately get up, slipping your hood and mask on. You crack your knuckles, determined to crack some skulls.
“Let’s get it!” you yell, stomping up towards your door before kicking it open. You immediately hear commotion coming from the center of the main hall.
Hmm…it’ll be too crowded down there. I should look around up here – maybe higher.
You climb up on the ledge of the hallway, grabbing the upper part of the wall and hoisting yourself up. Once you’ve secured your grip, you pull yourself up and manage to grab the banister on the upper floor. With a grunt, you pull yourself up and jump over, immediately surveying your surroundings.
A few moments later, you sense someone approaching you from behind. You don’t even look as you immediately raise your elbow as you’re spinning around, slamming it into someone’s face.
You hear a grunt, but you don’t see anyone. You’re confused for a moment before you realize you’re facing Paleman.
“Ow!” His voice comes from your right, so you take a chance and throw a front kick in that direction. He cries out in pain again, and you think you hear his footsteps fading. You turn and run the other way.
“Phantom, where are you?” you mumble, spotting a Jadeblade hidden behind a decorative painting. You snag it before turning and leaping over the banner, seeing several other Masters fighting over a Jadeblade. You do your best to sneak around them as you run into the Jadeblade room and slip your blade into the golden stand situated at the front. Clouse and Chen are standing on either side, and neither say a word to you as you put yours in.
You silently wait at the front, noting that you’re the first to complete the challenge. Your muscles tense as you feel Clouse’s stare burning into your back, but you keep your head up as you wait for the other Masters to arrive.
A few minutes later, you hear something in the main hall being struck with great force as the floor and walls vibrate.
Must have been the Master of Earth.
You wait a few moments longer, and soon enough, Masters start trickling in one by one. You spot Lloyd and Garmadon entering together at one point, talking amongst themselves. Once again, you manage to catch Garmadon’s stare.
He’s going to figure it out sooner or later. I can’t hide my power for much longer. I got lucky this initial round…but next time won’t be so easy, I know it.
“Two Jadeblades remaining,” Clouse states as he inserts yet another blade into the stand.
You hear footsteps coming from the door again, and this time, you see a guy around your age running inside.
“Wait! I got one!” he yells, smiling victoriously. Your stomach flutters at his smile.
He’s…really tall, and very well-built. He wears a gorgeous black gi with the design of a golden dragon imprinted on it, and his smile is complimented by a pair of stunning emerald eyes and a set of dimples. His hair is swept to the side messily.
Oh my god, he’s adorable-
“Cole!” yells a ninja in blue. “Woohoo! You made it!”
The black ninja’s smile fades as he surveys the crowd. “Where’s Kai?”
His question prompts you to search the group as well – and sure enough, Kai hasn’t arrived yet. Neither has Karlof.
“Come on, you idiot,” you mutter quietly, growing worried. Everyone awaits in anticipation, and a few minutes later, you hear the door opening.
Your heart drops.
“Karlof wins!” yells the Master of Metal as he enters with a blade.
You frown, but your spirits are raised when your bastard of an ex comes up behind Karlof to unscrew his metal…glove thingy. In turn, Karlof drops the blade.
“Ah, looks like you got a screw loose!” Kai quips before taking off towards the stand.
“We have a loser!”
Despite Kai’s…questionable and not-so-honorable victory, you can’t be helped but be relieved. You just found him, and you don’t want him to be gone again.
“That's not fair. He cheated!” Karlof accuses, putting his metal hand back on.
“I did what I had to do,” Kai replies, though you detect a hint of shame layered under his tone.
“That is not how you win,” Garmadon says, frowning.
“Fine, I lose. Karlof never wanted to be on stinking island!”
Chen hops onto his throne again as it descends from the ceiling. “Oh, I'm sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. I guess this worked out for the best. This is goodbye!”
Upon bidding the Master of Metal farewell, Chen proceeds to push a button on his throne. The floor panel underneath Karlof slides out from underneath, and the Master of Metal is sent spiraling into the darkness.
“As you can see, lose and you are out. Break any rule, you are out. Never bite the hand that feeds you Master Chen delicious noodle! Now rest up. Tomorrow the tournament will recommence.”
Morning arrives and you arrive at the dining hall. Damn, it’s been a while since you’ve been here. If there was one thing you missed about this island, it was the food and the food only.
You spot Skylor entering the room and walk over to her, smiling.
“Good morning,” you greet, turning so you can walk beside her.
“Morning,” she replies as the two of you get in line for breakfast. “How’d the round go for you?”
“Pretty easy, honestly. Everyone was too focused on one Jadeblade, so I was able to slip by most everyone and just had to fight Paleman.”
“That’s good. I just had to fight Kai.”
“Really?” you ask. “How did that happen?”
She falls quiet for a moment before answering: “We were outside talking from our balconies when the announcement played.”
“Dammit Skylor!” you say, already knowing how that went. You sigh, approaching one of the guards standing behind the counter. “Extra creamy biscuits, please. At least ten, preferably more.”
The guard shrinks underneath your glare and obliges with your request as Skylor observes you with a small smile on her face.
“Your diet is still shit,” she points out.
You elbow her in the ribs, childishly retorting with: “You’re still shit.”
Skylor laughs, returning her attention to her meal request.
After getting your food, the two of you make your way to an empty table that’s situated a ways away from the other ones. The two of you take your seats and start eating.
“I wonder what our challenge will be for today?” you wonder.
“Not sure. Maybe we’ll have the day off?”
“That’d be nice,” you say. “But I’m not gonna let my guard down. Not here.”
Skylor sighs, lowering her voice. “Has Clouse said anything to you since you’ve been here?”
“Not yet,” you say, nibbling on a creamy biscuit. Ah, tastes like nostalgia. “Now. What were you talking to Kai about last night?”
“Nothing!” she defends, looking away.
“You like him, don’t you?”
“No!” she retorts, frowning. “I mean, he’s cute and all…”
“Dammit Skylor, this is how it starts!”
She’s about to fire back at you, but she’s cut off by approaching footsteps.
You see who you think are Tox and Chamille walking up to the two of you, both holding trays.
“Hey, mind if we sit with you guys?” Chamille questions.
“Of course not,” Skylor replies.
“Thank fuck. There’s too much damn testosterone in here,” Tox adds, grinning as the two sit across from you and Skylor.
“Seriously. It’s good to know there are other female elementals,” Skylor says.
You nod in agreement, watching as Kai and his team enter the place. He smiles at you, and you nod at him in acknowledgement. The exchange doesn’t go unnoticed by Cole, though, who shoots Kai a questioning glance. You roll your eyes, returning to your breakfast.
“Man, I hope I get the chance to knock some of these fuckers out,” Chamille comments.
“You will soon,” Skylor says. “Hopefully Chen will announce the event soon.”
“What even is your element?” Tox asks, directing her question to you and sipping on her drink. “I don’t think I saw you use it yesterday.”
“I didn’t. I’m going to try and hide it for a little while.”
“That’s understandable,” Chamille says. “And also pretty impressive.”
The four of you continue talking and enjoying your breakfasts together, the other Masters steering clear of your table.
This is pretty nice. I wish Nya could be here, though. I miss her so much.
A few minutes later, you hear music coming from the intercom.
“Good morning, fighters! I hope your first night on my island was relaxing! I know you all are wondering what today’s event is, and that is: NOTHING! We’re taking today to set up all of our super exciting events! So, feel free to explore the palace and relax at your leisure! However, do not go anywhere that is marked as ‘restricted’. The tournament will resume tomorrow. Goodbye for now!”
“A day off?”
“Ugh,” Chamille groans. “No ass whooping today.”
“I’m kind of interested in exploring the island, though,” you say, looking at Skylor.
“Eh, not much has really changed, honestly,” she replies. “You might wanna check out the old training grounds later, though. And the ruins.”
“Well, maybe we can at least train some, Cam?” Tox suggests.
“I’d like that,” she replies before shoving her empty tray away from her and standing along with Tox. “Well, I guess we’re off now. You two are welcome to join us later if you want!”
Cam nods. “Thanks for letting us sit here. Let’s meet here again tomorrow, yeah?”
With that, the two exit the cafeteria in stride. You chuckle lightly.
“I like them,” you say, smiling.
“Yeah, so do I,” Skylor adds before her attention shifts and she points at something. “Hey, look who it is.”
You turn to see none other than Kai approaching the two of you. You roll your eyes as you catch him winking at Skylor.
“Ugh.”
“What?” Kai asks.
“Stop flirting!”  you demand.
“Nah, I don’t think I will.”
You sigh. “What’s up?”
“Come meet my team?”
Growing anxious at Kai’s proposition, you fumble for some kind of excuse to make the meeting wait a bit. “Can we do it later today? I was gonna go train with Tox and Chamille.”
He lifts an eyebrow, and to your surprise, he relents: “Fine. Meet me at my room at midnight.”
“Deal. Talk to you later, then.”
“You can’t put it off forever, you know.”
You sigh frustratedly, kicking open the front doors to Chen’s palace. “I know. I just…I don’t know how I feel about…well, everything. I think I should take some time to gather my thoughts first before I talk to them.”
“Alright. Where are you off to now?”
“I want to visit the old training ground. I’ll be back in a few hours.”
She nods. “Okay. I’ll leave you to it then. Take care.”
“You too.”
With that, Skylor heads back inside as you set off into the jungle of the island. The path to the training ground is still here; granted, it has been claimed by vegetation and weeds, but it’s still visible. You begin following it, the familiarity of the scenery bringing back memories.
Soon enough, the air grows too humid for you to continue wearing your hood and mask, so you take them off for the time being. The worn path winds into a stone road that outlines the ruins of the old village.
When you both were younger, you and Skylor would come up here to explore and just escape the life you were subjected to. You pause for a moment upon entering the old village, taking in the nostalgia and atmosphere.
It’s been so long…
Continuing on, you observe the remains with fascination. Despite all the overgrowth, you still recognize the building that you and Skylor would always run off to together. A peek inside reveals that it hasn’t changed much aside from the overwhelming amount of invasive vegetation.
After that, you progress through the ruins, taking the time to clear your mind.
You miss your family. That much you know. But are you angry at all? Angry at your dad? Angry at your mom?
Garmadon…no, not so much. The evil in him was foreign; he never asked to become the envoy of destruction. There were moments you had with him while on this island that proved he was fighting it to the best of his ability – and for that, you had admired him. You still do, and you’re elated he’s been purified.
But you’re also terrified. How would that affect your relationship? Would he be mad that you betrayed Chen first? Or because you left without him? Without saying goodbye?
Your chest suddenly grows heavy as you feel tears pricking at your eyes. What a horrible night that had been.
Even so, perhaps now is the time to make your amends.
Now, your mother on the other hand…you are mad at her. For leaving Lloyd alone at a boarding school for evil children all of these years. There had to have been a better solution.
Shaking your head, you look back up at the path you’re following. You notice you’ve exited the ruins and are now headed towards the spot you and your father used to train at frequently.
A small smile graces your lips as you step down to examine some of the plants. Sure enough, the wild shell pea vines are still alive and kicking, much to your delight. One of your favorite memories you have of your father was ditching training for the day to pick an absurd amount of wild berries, shell peas, and edible plants. Then, you would bring them back to the palace and wash all of them with your father and make tasty creations out of them.
You pluck a pea off the vine, rolling it around between your fingers before popping it in your mouth.
“Still yummy,” you mumble, smiling.
“I know, right?”
You squeak in alarm, immediately spinning around to face the intruder. You’re met with bright green eyes and an adorably startled expression.
“Woah there!” he says, raising his hands. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”
You recognize him as Cole, one of the ninja, causing you to relax a bit. “Oh, it’s okay. I was lost in thought. Cole, right? Master of Earth?”
He nods, also picking a shell pea off of the vine. “Yep. And you’re Kai’s friend, right?”
“I am. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
Cole grins. “Same here! Mind if I ask what you’re doing out here?”
You shrug, a bit surprised at how at ease you feel with him despite just meeting him. “This isn’t my first time on this island, so I was just walking around to spots I used to visit. How about you?”
You get the impression he wants to question further, but he ends up not doing so as his smile relaxes. “Well, being the Ninja of Earth and all, I always like exploring forests in my off time.”
“That’s understandable,” you say with a nod. “Have you visited the ruins yet?”
“I did, I passed by them on my way here. Then I saw you up here and wanted to try some of these wild shell peas,” he says, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head while chuckling.
Oh my stars, he’s precious!
“Aren’t they good? I used to come here to pick them so I could make chocolate-covered shell peas with my dad.”
“Those are one of my favorite desserts ever! Not as good as cake, but still way up there.”
You chuckle. “Did you find a bowl of them in your room?”
“No…I did get lots of cake though!”
You chuckle. “Well, the Kabuki usually put a bowl of them in each room. But, the thing is, they’re Chen’s version, which means they aren’t homemade. The ones my dad and I used to make kicked ass.”
“I bet. How’d you make the chocolate?”
“There’s a section on this island where Clouse has a pretty big garden he uses to grow any ingredients he needs for his spells. He grows cocoa beans there. I used to sneak into his garden and steal some of his cocoa beans just so we could make the chocolate.”
“That sounds really good…”
“It was,” you say, sighing. “I might see if I can make some again here soon. Perhaps you’d like to join me?”
“I’d be honored,” he replies, offering you a smile that makes your heart flutter.
“It’s a deal, then,” you say.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
The two of you fall into a companionable silence. Contrary to how you’d normally feel around most people, you don’t feel the need to fill the quiet.
“This is such a nice forest,” Cole says quietly.
You nod. “It really is. It’s too bad Chen has to ruin it all.”
“Yeah…something’s…off about him, I guess.”
You nod. “Kai told me you guys came here to look for your friend.”
“Yeah, we are. You…wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?”
“I’m afraid not. Though, I will say this – if he’s here, he’ll certainly be locked away in Chen’s underground prison.”
“Underground prison? How can we access that?”
“Chen loves his stupid trap doors. I’ll tell you what I told Kai – investigate everything you find in your room. It could lead to a secret passageway. But be warned that it’s like a maze down there. I can’t remember how to get to the prison, but wander long enough and you should be able to find it.”
He nods in acknowledgment. “Thank you. I’ll keep that in mind.”
“You’re welcome. Best of luck to you all. I’ll try to help out too.”
“I appreciate it,” he says before glancing around the area. You take the chance to subtly check out his toned arms. “Hey, would you happen to know a good spot to meditate around here?”
“Oh, yeah. There’s a really nice little oasis ahead. It’s got a small waterfall and lots of room to just chill. Or train. I used to train there a lot.”
“That’s perfect. Thank you. Would you…wanna join?”
“I’d like that,” you say, smiling. “Follow me!”

What would happen if pre-friends movie Lloyd (like, before he met the other ninja) got sent to the show universe?
hmmmmm
well, for the sake of things, this is my headcanon about how each of them met.
Nya and Kai(who are twins in the case) met Lloyd when they first moved to Ninjago City and were around 8 years old. They didn't know about his reputation since they were knew so they saved him from some bullies and has been practically inseparable ever since.
Next up was Jay and Cole, who were already friends from elementary and met in middle school. Group project and that jazz, only this time it was required to have it be a group of three. Cole and Jay did believe the rumors at first, but were never openly antagonistic toward him, instead choosing to mostly ignore him, if being slightly wary. They ended up getting caught in a Garmadon attack(before the ninja force) and Lloyd saved Jay's life, maybe from some falling debris, which eventually resulted in their friendship.
Zane is the newest of the group, coming in during early freshman year of high school(as of spbnr and the movie, they're about 2/3 through their sophomore year). He ended up meeting Jay first, with the two bonding during their STEM class, which they shared. After a two weeks, at which Jay learned Zane didn't have a friend group and decided to invite him to join them. Zane was admirably hesitant at first but could find no concrete evidence of Lloyd ever doing anything wrong beyond accusations, so he gave him the benefit of the doubt.
SO ANYWAY ANSWERING YOUR ASK
Kai and Nya wouldn't really have too much difficulty adjusting, as they'd never even heard of the accusations toward Lloyd until a few weeks after they became his friend.
The other three however would have an interesting time. Mainly grappling with the fact that Lloyd is....really just a kid. A kid with a horrible father, but a kid. It's hard to believe all the horrible stories they've heard about Lloyd after seeing him as just an innocent kid roped up in all this craziness and hatred that came from something far outside of his control.
Needless to say, they have quite a different view when they return

Sorry for the long wait. Block writing for this AU. But I am back!!

Black Sheep - Chapter 15.
--
All the Ninjas were call by Wu early in the morning to the place where they were secretly training. At four in the morning.
"Master Wu- " Kai was interrupted by his own tired yawn. " -why were we called by 'emergency' at this hour..?"
"Yes, Master. We have high school today." Zane had stepped in. "Did something serious happen? Is Lord Garmadon planning a secret attack?"
"Nothing serious." He reassure them. "I just need to tell you Ninja something." The master had begun. Eyes were on him, waiting for the reason for waking up and calling at this hour. "A.. A boy your age with black hair and a small part of him colored in one color is one of Lord Garmadon's spies."
He did not believe in his life that he would endanger his son in this way. He didn't think he was going to lie about being one of his brother's spies. He didn't think he would have to ask Ninja for 'help' to find his son. To lie to Lloyd about Morro until the last second.
"A... black-haired boy?" Jay said confused.
"Yes. It's.. it's one of Garmadon's helpers! It's dangerous. Very, very dangerous."
"A teenager our age with black hair and a small part of it colored in a different color?" Cole asked.
"Yes."
Kai and Nya glanced at each other. Lloyd was skeptical. Sounds too familiar.
------
Morro woke up with a crazy smile in front of his eyes.
"Garmadon!!!" He was about to hit him reflexively, but his arm was caught in one of Garmadon's hands.
"Dense darkness for you." Said the Lord.
Morro could feel his heart beating fast, fast. Sleep would not return to him, not after such a fright.
"What time is it?"
"Four in the morning."
"Four in the morning?! Why you wake me up at four in the morning!?"
"To show you my new plan! And evil never sleeps."
"You're wrong here. And I am not evil."
He got out of bed though. He wanted this to end once and for all, to go to sleep. When he reached Garmadon's room, there was a map of the Ninjago. Red marks were on it.
"What about... them?"
"I'm almost done with a power draw machine, dear son."
"I'm not your son."
"And with them in my power, I will lead ALL NINJAGO!"
Morro had stepped back a little. "Okay..? And.. why am I here?"
"Dear Morro, I will take yours. Yours are the ideal ones to take the rest!!"
"Wait.. what? Excuse me?" He could feel his blood freezing, his heart pounding and anxiety and fear growing in him.
"You do not understand?" He approaches him with open arms. "You are IDEAL! You are the perfect weapon!"
The Wind Master's legs were falling backwards. He walked and walked until he hit his back against the cold wall. Garmadon gets closer to him. Morro wanted to run through the front door, but he had been caught in the Lord's hands. He had begun to struggle to free himself, but the grip was becoming too hard and painful.
"Now let me shut you up." He said in a suspiciously light tone.
"How... what do you mean to shut me up? You can't do this!! Let me go!"
"I can. And I will. You're my son. My weapon."
"I'm not your son!! And I'm not anyone's weapon!!"
Garmadon ignored him and dragged him to a cell with the stones that nullified their powers. Morro had recognized them.
"To make sure you don't try to escape..." He clasped his hands in the chains on the wall. "Perfect. Now sit nice here until the machine is ready. There's little left."
"Let me go!! You can't do this to me!"
"I'm evil.~" He laughed as he walked through the thick darkness.
"What am I doing...? What am I doing? What am I doing?!" Morro said agitatedly. "You can't do that.. I shouldn't accept it!! Damn it!" He was trying to free himself. "It won't work like that. I'm helpless..."
------
Wu was walking slowly on a beaten path. There were trees around him. In his head were thoughts upon thoughts, worries upon worries, fears upon fears. The wind was slightly choppy at this time of day, breaking leaf after leaf, dancing slowly to the ground.
"I didn't know you were walking through the woods at this time, dear brother.~"
Wu stopped walking. The voice was familiar. Evilly known. He turned slowly, seeing his brother grinning at him.
"Hello, Brother."
"Dear Wu, I did not know that your son can be so stubborn and difficult. And you know how much I hate stubborn and difficult people."
"What do you mean, my son...?" His eyes widened. "Morro is at you?!" He could feel himself losing his breath instantly.
"Bet he Is! Oops. I didn't have to say that, I promised I wouldn't. But hey! I'm bad.~ I bet he expected that."
"Where is it?" His staff sank into the dust.
"At me. Of, dear brother, you are stupid with hearing over the years." He laughed briefly, smiling. "Now you're going to have to tell Lloyd about it. I'm curious if he'll yell at you, or cry, or both! HaHA!"
"They don't have to see each other. To know. And you know that."
"My memory is short, dear brother. Can you tell me the reason again?"
"You know him WELL." He stared at him.
"What about my dear wife? Hm? Doesn't she have that right too?"
"Neither Koko. Especially her.. She and Lloyd."
"You know very well that this Family Reunion will be set up soon, Wu~" Wu looked him straight in the eye. He was afraid, but he tried hard to push that feeling. "Bye Bye, My Dear Brother! You won't be able to hold Destiny in place for too long. And you know it! And my blow will be sweet and satisfying.~"
Lord Garmadon disappeared as he appeared.
Wu petrified there. The bamboo stick is now firmly planted in the ground.
"Oh no.. That's not good. That's not good.. What are you planning? What are you doing to him? Oh no.. and Ninja."
------
Morro opened his eyes after hours. His hands still caught in the ice-cold chains, had numb them. He looked where he was, until he saw something transparent green shining in front of him.
"Where THE HELL HAVE YOU THREE BEEN?!!" He screamed at the ghosts in front of him.
"I'd better let him calm down a little." Wrayth proposed, hiding behind Soul Archer.
"If you don't release me IN THIS SECOND!"
"I say opusl, Wrayth." Bansha said, trying to free his hands.
"Where have you been..? I've been here for hours.. I find out that Garmadon wants to use my powers. To be his weapon. And you disappear again. Why?"
"Morro.. We- "
"Done." Bansha said, interrupting the sentence that Soul had begun.
Morro strokes his wrists. "Thanks.. Can you open the doors, please?"
"Now." She said and openes.
Morro walked slowly out of it. "I need to get out of here. Urgent."
"Where do you think you're going, Ghost? Or to tell you... Morro?"
The brunette swore under his breath. He recognized Jade's voice behind him. He turned to the girl with a fake smile. "Harumi, hey.~"
"So it's true." She had started with her empty eyes. "You are the son of Lord Garmadon."
"I am not." The smile faded, his cold eyes coming after.
"But you're part of his family. You're a part of them. Blood from- "
"I'm adopted, Harumi."
Jade stops. Smiling. "So do I."
"Excuse me..?" He felt everything fall into his head, again.
Harumi approached him. "Yes. The Lord has adopted me. Lloyd is not very happy about it, but I don't care. His mother doesn't know about it, but I don't care about her. I'm just the Lord's Daughter!"
"You're talking nonsense.. You're crazy." He walked slowly backwards. He had a terrible Deja-Vu.
"Oh no, no, no. I don't. I'm perfectly healthy." It was inches from him. "Even after that blow to the head!" She pulled out the knife that held hidden behind her, trying to hit him.
Morro managed to avoid it, running to the exit door. When he pressed the doorknob, the door didn't open. They were locked. He turned to where Harumi was with the sharp knife in her hand. Jade ran to him, trying to hit him. She had no plans to kill him, but she had to shoot him down. They needed him. It was the Perfect Weapon.
The brunette managed to throw the knife from her hand, but the blonde still had a spare one. She managed to knock him to the ground, now the weapon was blocked by the victim's hands. Morro had been taken by surprise by this, now in danger. Out of the corner of his eye, he had seen the ghosts.
"Uh.. a little help here?!" He yells at them.
"Who the hell are you talking to?!" Harumi yelled nervously at him, putting even more pressure on Morro with her weapon.
"Our time here is gone..."
"What do you mean your time here is gone?! Hey!"
"We're sorry, Ghost Warrior.. Good luck. You'll need it, Morro." Archer said calmly, with a terribly great regret.
Morro watched as the ghosts evaporated in front of him. Then he feel himself give in up, and eyes suddenly close.
------
"Tell me I can kill him when I see him."
Kai had already called Morro for hours. He had filled it with messages. He put a fixed and single condition on him, and he didn't stick to it either. He wasn't in high school that day either.
"Don't kill him." Nya told his brother. "But something happened, I'm sure of it."
Kai held his phone lightly in his hand. "Don't you think... all this is weird?" Nya looked at him, letting him speak in silence. "Today Sensei called us to tell us about a teenager with black hair and a part of him in another color, who is Garmadon's spy. Isn't he weird? And Morro left yesterday for I don't know why and we have no idea where. He has black hair and some of his hair is green. Do you think... he's the 'spy' Sensei was talking about?"
Nya looked at him in shock. She didn't put the puzzle pieces so far in the story. "We can only find out if we ask Morro, but the problem with that is that we have no idea where he is. Or we can ask Master Wu. But it looks like something is missing.."
"What would it be?"
"Wu stuttered a little when he told us about this. As if it weren't true or hid something. Something escapes us. I think we should tell the rest about Morro's existence. That Ghost is actually Morro."
Kai looked at the phone as if waiting for something to come. "I'll think about it."
"Kai. What if Morro is in real danger? Is Wu really aware of anything? What.. if Wu is looking for him and inventing that he's a Garmadon spy?"
"Wu looking for him? Why would he want to- " He paused. "What if Wu is Morro's father?"
"That would explain why he was so paranoid that his father would find him."
"That means his brother/cousin is..."
"Lloyd." They said suddenly.

Headcanon/Pokéninjago version of Lloyd’s identity crisis during season 5 of Ninjago
Got ab 12 likes on the announcement post so here we are: This is an essay-sorta-thing about something I thought and wrote some six years ago. It’s been so long since I wrote this I feel cringy reading it, but it’s tenable in Pokéninjago lore. It’s kind of a mix between my headcanon for the show, and canon of my AU, which is why there is mentions of “evolving” and Pokémon types.
Things to take into account:
Idk if there should be content warnings, but depression mention at least. Otherwise, this is pretty much as intense as season 5 went, just a little more angsty I suppose.
I must say that my version of Lloyd and his identity crisis were inspired by a certain artist’s version of him and by a comic they made about the Child’s Play episode’s aftermath. I don’t dare name the artist, since they don’t wish to be linked with the Ninjago fandom anymore, but some of you might know who I’m referring to.
I do not know how psychology stuff actually works, all of this was made on grounds of a couple of high school psychology courses and a lot of imagination `:D
I wrote this originally in Finnish and let Word translate it, so this might be v clumsy at points.
Most of the text is under the cut!
                                                  ~***~
When Lloyd was just a small cub, closer to three years, his mother had left him in his father's care. Misako knew the boy would become the Green Ninja and Garmadon would become the Dark Lord. That is why she went looking for any ancient knowledge to avoid the final confrontation. Although her heart was torn since she had to leave her loved ones, she knew that she couldn’t just sit on her hands, and that perhaps she was the only one that could prevent the decisive battle between good and evil. It was also her wish that the father and the son could spend as much time together as possible. Thus, Lloyd's earliest childhood memories are about his father, and his recollections of his mother are blurry, obscure, and fading away as he grows up, or mixing with other memories.
Dad meant everything to little Lloyd. Although they lived in the same monastery with Lloyd’s uncle as well, whom he also liked, his own father was still the greatest. Garmadon also loved his child deeply and wanted him to have a happy life. Although the poison in his veins was starting to get a hold of him and he was increasingly drawn to the Golden Weapons, his love for Lloyd and the desire to be with him in anticipation of Misako's return kept him away from them for much longer than if the boy had never existed.
When Lloyd "evolved," he lost some important years of his life, during which a youngster usually developes a picture of himself and his changing body. Lloyd's body changed in a single moment and even though his mind also changed to some degree, it was still mostly on the same level as before, since artificial aging did not bring him the years of experience that growing up normally would. From that moment on, he had to form himself a new image of himself. Frankly, he was facing a fierce identity crisis.
After the episode Child's Play, Lloyd adopted an identity whose foundation was flimsy and unstable. It consisted of a few simple pillars that supported his image of himself. Some emotions, thoughts, and memories that he could not, wasn’t able to or didn’t dare to deal with, secretly and slowly gnawed at those pillars like erosion. They grew into doubt that settled into the cracks like rockfoil.
That flimsy foundation for his self-image, consisted of these elements: I am the Green Ninja. I'm the strongest ninja of all. I’m the son of  sensei Garmadon. I’m the grandson of The First Spinjitzu Master. I'm one of the Elemental Masters. I'm a student of Sensei Wu. I'm one of the five elemental ninjas. It's my destiny to protect the world from evil.
This made it easy for Morro to destabilize and crush Lloyd’s self-esteem. Morro proved himself to be stronger and more independent than Lloyd, and that he could win him over and over again, no matter how hard Lloyd tried to fight back. Lloyd felt weak and desperate. Two pillars of his self-image collapsed to the ground and the masked emotions and doubts that chipped away at the other columns began to grow and intensify: He was not the strongest ninja and was therefore unable to protect the world from this evil.
This also affected his view of him as the Green Ninja. Although logically he still was just that – the Golden Weapons and his powers had proven it – he could not help but think that maybe Morro really was supposed to be the Chosen One. His identity was cracking, which ate away at his strength and self-esteem. Being a Psychic Type, his greatest strength resided in his psyche, and whenever his mind was in an unstable and vulnerable state, he couldn’t do his best, even if he had used everything he had learned. Losing his father fairly recently had already struck a dangerous notch in his mental stability.
Even though Lloyd was still his father's son, it didn't feel the same when he was no longer with him. Finally, he was only driven forward by his relationship with his other loved ones. He had to do everything he could to stop Morro from harming his friends. By protecting them he was also protecting the last intact remnants of his Self.
Lloyd did everything he could to resist Morro's possession. From time to time a memory of his friends and the will to keep them safe increased his "self-control," weakening the ghost's hold on him. However, a long, grueling time in constant motion, without water and nourishment, poisoned by a cold, vindictive spirit, steadily filled his mind with anguish and despair. Doubts penetrated deep into the tears of his self-image, breaking everything old until he no longer knew who he was. Only with the last bits of his mental strength could he interfere with Morro's possession so that he failed to clear the other ninjas out of his way.
Then, when Morro broke away from Lloyd's body, the Espeon felt like nothing more than an empty, broken shell floating aimlessly in the dark, beachless sea. He was unable to live up to any of the expectations and goals that had been set for him. Now, he was used as a trade-in item in the market of the world’s destiny. He longer had the strength or power to save even his best friends. He was as helpless as a newborn pup and all he could do was to stand by and apologize when he was traded for Realm Crystal.
Somewhere from his past, he dug up one last spark of strength. Already as a child, he had been left alone with unfriendly people, who then had ignited that stubborn flame in him: the desire to fight the cruel, unjust and repressive world. His body still had more strength than his mind, and this momentary burst of grit made him kick the Crystal out of Morro's hand. This, however, caused him to end up in the freezing stream, all his energy used up. There was not much left but a primitive desire to survive and a little strength to keep his head afloat before the cold numbed his muscles.
Lloyd's mind was in shambles. Images, memories, shattered fragments of his adopted identity… they all churned in his tired, blurred consciousness. Unintentionally, he began to go through the feelings of uncertainty, fear and inadequacy that he had denied from himself for years. The present seemed more surreal than the memories. He relived moments that had had a revolutionary impact on his life: When the golden weapons pointed him out as a Green Ninja; when he grew up under the influence of Tomorrow's Tea; when he met his mother and became to know her; when he unleashed the Golden Dragon in the Temple of Light; how he fought the Overlord who was possessing his father; how he harnessed his True Potential; got his father back; lost Zane; reunited his friends again and felt great togetherness with the other Elemental Masters. When he lost his father again. And when Morro possessed him.
Lloyd was lost. If it wasn’t for his friends and their care, he would have sunk deep into depression (and, on the other hand, drowned or, at the very least, died of hypothermia). When Kai carried him out of the FSM’s tomb, it triggered a very clear memory of the day when the Master of Fire had fulfilled his potential and Lloyd had been identified as the Chosen One. That day, Kai had come to save him from an erupting volcano and carried him to safety. Now, Lloyd felt like he was that little scared cub again, who had for a moment thought he was going to burn to the ground in the boiling lava of the volcano. He remembered how Kai's closeness had brought a feeling of immediate security around him. Even though the mountain had raged and wanted to kill them both, Lloyd had known he didn’t have to be afraid. Kai was there. He'd protect Lloyd. There was no reason to fight the fear anymore, he didn't have to pretend like he was tough. He was carried by someone older and stronger, whom to rely on.
The feeling was so intense, the memory so vivid that Lloyd was overwhelmed by an inexplicable, immense grief. The sadness of being forced to give up a carefree childhood so early on, to take on an enormous responsibility and assume a role that seemed too demanding for such a small boy to perform. He had had to grow up way too soon. He started shaking from holding back the tears. He didn’t mind since he thought Kai was probably assuming that he was shivering from the cold. But when Kai said quietly and understandingly: "Shh... It's okay... Don't worry about it," the last wall of pride and fear fell, and Lloyd could no longer repress his weeping.
At this point, he slowly began to build a new identity on the ruins of the wrecked one. He understood that even though he was the Green Ninja, it didn’t make him greater or more important than the others. He had more magical power than anyone else, but he was still only a person just like them. He could hesitate, too, and fail. There was no way for him to do anything more than what he was capable of, mentally, physically, and skill-wise. That’s all there was to offer, and if it wasn't enough, there were others whom he could rely on. Others, who would catch him when he ran out of strength. He wasn't the last link to hold the whole structure together.
These ideas developed slowly in Lloyd's exhausted mind. Slowly, he got stitched back up from the fragments of his previous self-image. This time, however, his new identity was not something that was given to him from the outside, in which he would have had to fit himself, but it was a solid, authentic self-image created as a result of self-reflection. It was still obscure, uncertain and seeking its form, and its growth was overshadowed by fear. But the conversation with his father drove away that last fear. The fear that Morro was supposed to be the Green Ninja instead of Lloyd. His father assured that Lloyd’s qi had no influence on how he should live and act. He should live the way his heart told him to.
In the end, although Morro managed to beat Lloyd one last time, this time he did not break down. He was more intact now, he had more inner strength, and he knew for sure he wouldn't be abandoned. That the fate of the world wasn't really up to him. He may have been part of the story, but after all, he wasn't the protagonist, at least not the only one of them.

afsdgfdhgj!! thank you sm, i’m so happy to hear that :’D that is...something i do very much need to work on actually, i’ve been trying to kick the talking-self-down habit for a while now, it’s just!! it’s tough, guys.
on a lighter note, i know exactly what trope you’re talking about and i’m an unapologetic sucker for it afdsgfdh. unfortunately this probably isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, but i got bit by the idea and it wouldn’t let me go, so here’s a somewhat-short (somewhat) fic about it!
Sometimes, the ninja forget they’re technically, kind-of-sort-of, famous. Like, not all the time, because some people are creepy and won’t leave them well enough alone, and some people are just…really enthusiastic…but for the most part, it is easy to forget sometimes, because out of gi they look pretty normal.
(Until Lloyd’s eyes start shuffling through colors like a sporadic traffic light, of course, but that doesn’t happen as much now.)
The point is, sometimes it’s easy to forget that they’re famous.
Sometimes, though — when movie posters the size of the Bounty are plastered all over the city because some wise guy thought making a film about them would be a great idea — it’s harder to forget.
“This feels like an invasion of privacy,” Cole mutters, crossing his arms as he sinks deeper into the theater seat.
“Oh, yeah,” Nya says. “Because trading cards and entire news documentaries with our full names and intimate dating life details were one thing, but a loosely-based movie is where we draw the line.”
“Intimate dating life my foot,” Lloyd scowls, clearly far from getting over that one article that managed to snag a picture of him and Harumi before…everything.
“Well — yeah, fair, but like—” Cole sputters. “They hired actors to play us. They’re gonna be recreating our lives and it’s — it’s weird, okay?”
“I dunno, I think it’s pretty cool,” Kai says, already on his third mouthful of popcorn, and the trailers have’t even started yet. “I mean, it can’t be worse than that play they put on, right?”
“Don’t jinx it,” Zane mutters darkly, his eyes flashing at the reminder.
“I’m with Kai,” Jay says, bouncing in his seat as he reaches for the popcorn. “I think it’s cool that people care enough about us to make a movie, you know? Like, did you see the budget for this thing?”
“Was it as high as the repair cost for the tower we blew up last week?” Lloyd says.
“Uh…maybe. I didn’t compare, exactly. But look, you can’t put a price on lives. A little collateral damage is worth it.”
“A little?” Zane says, his eyebrows shooting up.
“Eh, we helped clean it up,” Nya shrugs. “That counts.”
Jay points at her. “Thank you.”
“Still say it wasn’t my fault,” Kai grumbles, crossing his arms. Lloyd pokes him in the ribs, and Kai yelps, flinching away from him. “Not cool, not cool!”
“We’re definitely not going to make it through this movie without getting thrown out,” Cole groans into his hands. They’re already getting looks from the movie-goers around them, and their patience doesn’t look like it’s going to last very long.
“C’mon, have a little optimism,” Jay placates. “This is gonna be fun— hey, that’s my popcorn!”
“No way, lightning brain, I bought it, I hold it.”
“But you bought it with Nya’s money.”
“Which she stole from Lloyd’s sock drawer this morning, so that doesn’t count.”
“Wait, you stole my sock money?”
“Um…call it payback for stealing the last of the cookies last week.”
“How is that a fair trade, I only took one!”
“Yeah, one dozen—”
“Guys, please—”
“You’re one to talk, you stole all the—”
“Would you all shut up, it’s starting, and — I said shut up!”
******************
It takes a few threats of murder, and one or two threats of open power-use to the face, but they quiet down in time for the opening credits.
The movie begins peacefully enough, with an older man telling some ‘punk little kid’ as Kai describes him, a whole lot of ‘stereotypical sensei mumbo jumbo’ as Lloyd describes it, about himself. Which, to be fair, is pretty accurate to their lives, so they’re able to quietly munch on popcorn for the first few minutes, at least.
But then the plot starts.
“What do they mean, ‘uh oh’, to Lloyd Garmadon?” Kai frowns. “The city loves you.”
Lloyd shrugs, tossing a mouthful of popcorn back. “I dunno,” he says. “I mean, it is tough to be that kid.”
“Yeah, ‘cause he’s the worst shortie ever, like four feet tall,” Nya whispers to him. Lloyd elbows her in the side. Zane shushes them, just in time for the actual movie Lloyd to show up on the screen, in bed and receiving a call from—
Lloyd doubles over, choking on his popcorn.
“Luh-Lloyd?” Kai says, in delight. “Luh-Lloyd?!”
“Pajamas,” Lloyd wheezes, as Nya thumps his back. “Look at his pajamas, I gotta buy my dad those—”
The others are left to giggle their way through the interpretation of one of their greatest enemies snacking on cereal in printed pajamas, telling Lloyd he ‘must’ve butt-dialed him’. It’s hysterical until Garmadon forgets Lloyd’s birthday, and the Lloyd onscreen gets the signature Sad Puppy Eyes Lloyd Look on his face — which, props to the actor, he nailed it — and everyone looks to Lloyd in sympathy.
“That’s rough, buddy,” Jay pats his shoulder. Lloyd rolls his eyes.
“It’s not me,” he says, shrugging again. Really, his dad forgetting his birthday is like, incredibly tame, compared to hurling him through a prison wall or six.
Now, forgetting he existed, that stings. But also, like, this isn’t his dad, so. Eh. He doesn’t really care.
“Is that supposed to be Misako?”
Never mind. He cares now.
“Are you—” Kai plasters a hand over his mouth, muffling this next part. “—kidding me?!”
“Oh, she’s, uh…really present, huh,” Cole winces, as ‘Koko’ encourages her son about being himself, and other really nice stuff Lloyd would have super appreciated hearing when he was younger.
He opens his mouth again, and Nya takes the opportunity to stuff more popcorn in it. Lloyd chomps down angrily, glaring at the screen and grumbling under his breath.
“At least you’ve shown up at all,” Jay comforts him. Lloyd is very much not comforted. He just wants to get through the rest of the movie in peace, and shift the focus off of him as quick as possible.
Oh boy, is he disappointed.
Like, he gets a few minutes of relief as the others are introduced, but that’s all, really. Even if it is hilarious.
“Hello, fellow teen.”
Cole makes a sound like a dying balloon, and Jay almost coughs popcorn out of his nose. Zane just presses his lips into a flat line, his expression unreadable. “I do not…know how to feel about this.”
Jay and Kai are doubled-over on each other by now, choking on laughter. Cole, bless him, is doing his absolute best not to burst into giggles, while Nya and Lloyd have given up and are full-out cackling.
“Well,” Zane says, eyeing them with a gleam in his eye. “Perhaps I should start updating my database with ‘teen lingo’ then—”
“No!” they all chorus in unison, waving frantically at Zane, earning several dirty looks from the people around them as they do.
“You’re perfect the way you are, buddy,” Jay says hastily.
Kai, at least, seems pretty steadily in character—
“Aw, look, I almost snapped your spine.”
“That’s a Kai hug, for sure.”
—and Nya’s thrilled about having a motorcycle. Jay’s a tad indignant at his character’s stuttering, but Cole reminds him he has zero room to talk, so Jay shuts up in time for Cole to shrug at his own portrayal.
“I like that shirt,” he remarks. “And those headphones are cool.”
Then the reality of the scene they’re watching sinks in.
“Wait, why are we in school?” Zane blinks, confused.
“Why are they being so mean to you?” Cole exclaims at Lloyd, taken aback.
Lloyd makes a face at the cheerleaders on screen, jerking his shoulder up as if to say ‘like I know’. Which is kind of a lie, because he does know, the movie told them, but he’s not gonna get into that. Kai is already fuming in his seat beside him, growing steadily angrier by the second. “Who do they think they are,” he hisses. “I’ll show them a number one hit.”
Lloyd rips his eyes from the screen, watching Kai in mild alarm. “Kai, you know that’s not actually me, right?”
“—tear those kids a new one—”
Lloyd cringes at the looks they’re getting from the people around them, patting Kai’s arm. “Chill out, Kai, seriously. This is like, basic Darkley’s stuff, don’t worry. And I walked away from that fine.”
Wrong thing to say. Kai swivels on him, his eyes flashing. “Wait. This happened to you at Darkley’s? For real?”
“Um…” Lloyd sweats briefly, the sounds of Boo Lloyd! coming from the screen really not helping at all. “I mean, I was a brat. I brought a lot of it on myself.”
Kai looks like he’s going to combust. “I swear—”
“Kai,” Lloyd interrupts, trying to quell the storm. “It’s fine. Seriously. I mean, there was this one time that four guys way bigger than me ganged up and hung me from a roof by my hoodie all night, but it wasn’t that bad. I’m fine.”
Kai’s face turns thunderous, matching the roar of Garmadon finally coming into view onscreen. “Wasn’t that bad?” he says, incredulous, gaining them several shh’s, mainly from Nya. Kai ignores them. “Point me to those punks, Lloyd, I’ll strangle ‘em—”
“Kai.”
“Wha — oh. Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“That — that was different.”
“Uh-huh.”
“…you — you weren’t there all night.”
“I sure was.”
“Oh.”
“Mm-hm.”
“Um. Sor…rry?”
Fortunately, both are saved by Garmadon smashing his way on screen in a giant shark mech with a full-scale crustacean-themed army, to which the ninja kind of just…stare. That’s — that’s the best they can do with that one. That, and be thankful Garmadon himself isn’t here to see this.
“I mean, to be fair, I can see him appreciating a song entirely about himself,” Kai mutters, as the chorus continues to yell about Garmadon!. “And — wait, Lloyd, are you filming this?”
“Uh, yeah?” Lloyd says, re-adjusting the zoom feature on his phone. “Now hush, I wanna save this and make it my ringtone.”
******************
The mechs are, admittedly, cool. Their total lack of ability to do Spinjitzu, way less so.
“That’s so not how Spinjitzu works,” Nya scoffs, as Sensei Wu finally makes an appearance, just in time for Lloyd to request wind as an element, which brings on another bout of choking.
“Oh, for crying out loud,” Lloyd sighs. He then blinks rapidly. “Wait, where are our powers?”
“Nonexistent, apparently,” Zane murmurs. “Along with our common sense.”
“To be fair, that’s never been a reliable thing in the first place,” Jay points out.
The lack of common sense continues to be a trend throughout the movie, and by the time the ‘Ultimate Weapon’ comes up, things start to go downhill rather fast.
“Which, to continue to be fair, is also pretty in-character. This whole fight kinda is.”
The other ninja grumble in agreement as Lloyd runs off to confront his father alone despite all warning, and Lloyd begins to sink lower into his seat. He has a bad feeling he knows exactly where this is going, and sadly, he isn’t disappointed.
Well, for the most part.
“A cat?” Lloyd yelps, his eyes bugging out. “A giant cat?! How is that fair? All I ever get to fight is creepy part-reptile people who want to suck the power out of me, where do I sign up for this?”
“This is surreal,” Zane remarks, as Meowthra tears her merry way across the screen. The whole scene is a disaster, slo-mo destruction and everything, but it’s pretty much the standard fare they’re used to, so they really don’t bat much of an eye as the cat totally wrecks them.
“Nice to know we can’t catch a break in any universe,” Jay sighs sadly, as his mech is torn apart on screen.
“This movie is really beating the ‘don’t-challenge-dad-solo’ message over the head, huh,” Lloyd mutters, chin in his hand, having recovered from his brief bout of extreme-cat-heart-eyes.
Kai gives him a stink-eye. “Yeah, I wonder why.”
Understandably, the Lloyd onscreen is considerably upset at the apparent destruction of all his friends. The ninja are all incredibly curious as to where the movie is going to go next, though, since this Garmadon celebrates his victory by throwing a pretty sick party instead of building a skyscraper-sized stone Colossi of destruction and wrecking half the city.
“Kind of unfair,” Jay scowls, as the henchman do the conga onscreen. Nya’s got a smart comment to make back, but then the Lloyd onscreen reveals himself —
“In typical dramatic-Lloyd fashion, they got that right.”
“Oh, shut up.”
— and then proceeds to snap at the Garmadon onscreen, “I wish you weren’t my father.”
The theater goes remarkably quiet, as do the ninja. Cautiously, they turn to look at Lloyd, who is staring at the screen with a look on his face similar to if you’d shaken up a soda bottle really hard and were about to take the top off. Then—
“Oh, heck yeah, how’s that for karma, you over-powered conceited jerk of a dad,” Lloyd hisses viciously at the screen, punching his fist in the air. “He’s got the right idea, it’s my turn to start disowning family members. Screw ‘you’re not my son’, I’m gonna pull this one out next time and disown him—!”
“Lloyd,” Nya says, a bit nervously. “You know he’s, uh, he’s crying on screen now, right?”
“Yeah,” Lloyd spits.
“You, uh. You know you are too, right?”
“N-no.”
“Therapy,” Cole whispers to Zane. “So much therapy.”
“I’ve already booked us,” Zane murmurs back, sliding his phone back in his pocket. “If the office can simply manage not get blown for one more week this time, we might actually make it."
******************
While they do, however, manage to stay quiet for most of that scene — and isn’t Cole wildly impressed with them for that — the next scene kind of shoots that victory right into tiny little pieces.
“Why are we being so mean to you now?” Cole exclaims, flabbergasted, as the poor Lloyd onscreen looks seconds from tears, the rest of the team staring down at him with firm glares.
“Shh, this is getting dramatic,” Lloyd hushes him.
Nya gets a look on her face that promises murder, and Kai refuses point-blank to be shushed.
“What a bunch of jerks. We’d never do something like that, I’m going to have words with some people—”
“Jamanakai,” Lloyd just says, wearily. “Rooftop. All night.”
Kai deflates, sinking into his seat. “S’not the same,” he mutters, fiercely. “We never said all those mean things to you.”
Lloyd gently pats his arm. “There, there,” he says. “I know you didn’t mean it.”
“I never said it! It’s — it’s that imposter on screen, that’s who!”
“Kai, I know—”
Lloyd is interrupted by an unfortunately-timed declaration from the onscreen Jay.
“Now, we hate you.”
Lloyd blinks, almost surprised at the slight flare of hurt that sparks in his chest at that. Which is stupid, because these directors don’t know them, and that’s not really Jay, but hey, why not play into his worst fears, movie—
Then “Jay!” is hissed in scandalized unison, and Lloyd stuffs said worst fears back into box and tries not to snicker at the look on his brother’s face.
“It’s not me!” Jay defends desperately, waving his hands wildly. “That’s not me!”
“Deleting all data related to treating Lloyd as a friend.”
Jay is saved as everyone turns on Zane, who just buries his face in his hands. “Let it end,” he moans.
******************
Apart from being shocked that Sensei Wu is actually going with his ninja on their quest for the Ultimately Ultimate Weapon—
“It’s ultimate ultimate, did you miss that trip-inducing scene they explained it with?”
—they aren’t as surprised by things anymore after that, having caught on to the movie’s flow. It’s a little more slapstick than they’re used to, all bright colors and quick action, but it’s enjoyable to watch Garmadon and Sensei Wu snipe at each other, at least.
“Ten bucks says he survives just fine,” Cole says blandly, as Sensei Wu goes plummeting toward the river.
Not one of them take him up on that wager.
“Geez, they’re really roasting us for being morons in this, huh,” Jay observes, as their onscreen counterparts take the clearly-a-trap route, as per Garmadon’s advice.
Lloyd, who is still stewing about having his voice made fun of, bites out, “I think it’s pretty valid, for some of us.”
“Oh, suck it up already, Lloyd. Your voice changed anyways, get over it.”
“Are you saying I sounded ridiculous before?”
“Uh, no-o…?”
“Oh, there we go, getting humiliated again,” Nya sighs, as the ninja are cornered by Garmadon’s ex-generals. “I wonder why they didn’t give us our powers. You’d think they’d have capitalized on that, it’d look pretty cool.”
“Who knows. I’m still trying to figure out if my character’s love for music is a clever reference to me and my dad’s singing background, or just a shallow attempt to give me character at all,” Cole muses. They turn back to the movie just in time to wince in unison as the ninja onscreen flee, leaving Lloyd and Garmadon to be captured.
Kai is less than pleased with this development.
“Oh, so we’re just leaving Lloyd behind now? Who wrote this movie, I wanna talk.”
******************
By the time Garmadon’s teaching Lloyd how to throw bricks from a roof to some sappy soundtrack, then relocating his dislocated shoulder in a wild tone change, they’re mostly lost for words.
Also kind of enjoying the movie, though no one will admit it. The expressions are funny, and there are some lines that hit home. Sure, Lloyd spends a good ten minutes alternating between sputtering and gaping when Garmadon describes their family history, and only proceeds to get worse when everyone else receives powers and he gets a cute little tree branch, but it is fun to watch their onscreen counterparts run around to “I’ve Got the Power” playing cheerfully in the background. Plus, no one tries to ostracize Lloyd again, and it’s oddly satisfying to watch Garmadon get eaten by a giant cat, so by the time Lloyd’s trying to hide suspicious sniffling into the empty popcorn tub while his onscreen counterpart is giving Garmadon his big sappy speech about forgiveness, they might actually give the movie a decent rating.
Cole’s just happy they haven’t been thrown out yet, because they’ve really been pushing it this whole time. But finally, it seems like everyone’s settled down and is keeping perfectly quiet—
“What do you mean, he gets to keep the cat?”
Cole’s hopes and dreams go up in sad, despairing smoke.
“Wait, that’s what’s bothering you?” Nya blinks. “Not the whole, ‘this Lloyd gets his entire family back happy’ part, but the cat part?”
“Well yeah, I’m upset about the cat part!” Lloyd exclaims indignantly. “He gets a giant cat! The size of a skyscraper! What kind of raw deal did my grandfather cut me here, I didn’t even get to keep my dragon! This is so dumb, and — and oh look, now my dad’s all happy and stuff—”
Nya and Zane glance around in alarm. The movie-goers around them seem to be losing the last, lingering shreds of their patience, and Cole wisely decides that this might be a nice time to make an exit. The movie looks like it’s about over, anyways, and—
“—and what, they just have happy family dinners together now?!”
Yeah, they’re leaving.
******************
“Well, that was…enlightening,” Zane says blankly, as they exit the theater. He still looks tragically annoyed at the way the producers decided to portray him, but he’s mostly recovered by now. Probably because he torched his little movie poster on the way out, but who are they to judge.
“I think you mean infuriating,” Kai mutters, glaring at the theater as they leave it behind.
“I don’t know, it wasn’t so bad,” Nya says. “Like, they obviously decided to go for Lloyd’s very sensitive personal life as a focus point, so at least the rest of us got off alright.”
“Giant cat,” Lloyd mourns, clearly still more hung-up on that than Ninjago’s apparent obsession with his family drama.
“I just wanna try that lightning thing later,” Jay says. “Know any doors I can practice busting open dramatically?”
“Yeah, the door to the producer’s office,” Kai grumbles.
“Enough, guys,” Cole sighs. “It was a lot better than it could’ve been. Let’s just be happy the city still likes us enough to make us the heroes.”
They all nod at that, placated for now, at least. They fall into silence, carefully navigating their way home, until Jay breaks the quiet.
“Your heroes on the wa-a-ay,” Jay murmurs. He’s met with five looks of equal disappointment. “What?” he shrugs. “It’s catchy.”
Cole rolls his eyes, and Kai scoffs. They fall back into silence for a beat, their footsteps the only sound on the street, then—
“Something-something save the da-a-ay,” Lloyd hums.
Jay beams, and Kai moans. Nya just grins. “Gonna something-something pla-a-ace—”
“That takes us higher!”
They dissolve into snickers, their mix of off-key singing echoing across the Ninjago City streets. Cole spares a sigh of despair at their attempt, but he can’t help grinning too. It is a catchy song, and, to be fair, for trying to capture their general team spirit, it comes pretty close.
A lot closer than half that movie did, he frowns. Though he does still want that shirt his counterpart wore.
“Hey,” Jay speaks up. “Let’s learn that Garmadon song next. We can sing it to him in battle.”
“Oh, now you’re talking.”

To the two people that care about this~
(Fate/Ninjago)
Now that everyone that doesn’t care is gone, let’s get tot rambling!
You know what? I decided the best way to do this is to just post the fic I started.
--
He knew something didn’t go right the moment he saw red.
Smoke cleared and instead of the legendary green ninja, Len saw a boy he didn’t recognize wielding a golden sword.
“Who has summoned me?” the boy asked.
Or maybe he should be called a man? He seemed to be on the edge between the two. Either way he was older than Len. It didn’t matter who he was, what mattered was that he wasn’t who Len was trying to summon.
“You’re not the green ninja.” Len said flatly.
He made no effort to disguise his disappointment and distaste.
The servant in red narrowed his eyes harshly. He had a light scar over his face and all the marks of a seasoned warrior. Len knew he hadn’t gotten a total dud, but still was trying to figure out where in the world he went wrong.
“Of course I’m not.” What was clearly a Saber servant scoffed, sheathing his glowing weapon on his back and crossing his arms.
“I was trying to summon the green ninja.” Len said with confrontation in his voice.
Saber looked Len up and down then snorted in something akin to disgust.
“You’re not worthy of summoning Lloyd.” He said, with a bite to his words.
“How dare you! Do you know who I am?” Len demanded.
“Do you know who I am?” Saber retorted effortlessly.
Len grunted in frustration. Just his luck he’d gotten such an indigent servant. He toyed with the idea of using a command seal right then and there.
“I am Len Garmadon, I am a descendant of the green ninja. I share his blood. I can think of nothing ‘worthier’ then that.” Len said snidely.
“You didn’t answer me.” Saber said, showing no other reaction.
Hands finding their way into his hair, Len let out another frustrated groan. He bet Haruki wasn’t having these problems.
“No. I don’t know who you are. Would you care to enlighten me?” Len tried, being as civil as he could, but still sounding condescending.
Saber gave another dismissive sound.
“So, you don’t recognize me, but you think you’re worthy of summoning Lloyd? No wonder you failed.” Saber said.
Len growled.
“I’ll be back when you call my name, until then, you’re not worth my time.” Saber said before disappearing into his noncorporeal form.
“HEY! You can’t do that! SABER!” Len yelled.
Saber didn’t respond to the name of his class, so Len assumed he was meant to call Saber’s true name. But how could he do that when Saber never told him? It was clearly a test; one Len didn’t have the patience for. At this rate Haruki was going to win the Grail while he was stuck arguing with his stupid servant!
He could use a command seal, but he only had three and he got the feeling that his servant would refuse to appear without him using them until he fulfilled the silly request. So, he had to figure out what servant he’d summoned in place of his ancestor.
Len took a calming breath and listed what identifying traits he knew in descending order of helpfulness.
1. Saber used a golden sword.
There could only be so many golden swords in history and legends. That would surely narrow it down.
2. Saber wore red.
With how much of it he wore, it was clearly a distinctive color that he may be symbolically tied to.
3. Saber had a scar on his face.
It wasn’t the most prominent of scars, but it was identifiable.
4. Saber appeared to be a male.
While it wasn’t unheard of for servants to be different genders from what their legends said, it was worth starting with male legends.
Len was ready to bang his head on the wall at the task in front of him before he remembered a very telling quirk Saber had displayed.
He called the green ninja by his first name.
Saber seemed personally offended at Len’s demand for “Lloyd”, so clearly Saber, whoever he was, must’ve been a hero that knew the green ninja personally in his life.
That was a much more specific starting place.
_____
“Kai.”
“You called?”
The spikey haired ninja appeared before the sound was even done echoing around the library.
“You’re the master of fire. The green ninja’s protector. That’s the sword of fire you’re wielding, right?” Len asked as he calmly closed his book and got up to put it away.
Kai gave him a nod. The kid was much less snotty now and Kai felt less like hanging him on a street sign. Perhaps that was just a Garmadon trait though? Being an insufferable brat and then warming up on people.
Len didn’t look unlike Lloyd. He had Lloyd’s blindingly blond hair, and that Garmadon jawline that made girls go nuts, but Len’s cheek bones weren’t as full and projecting as Lloyd’s were. His eyes were that breathtaking emerald, but not the overly round shape Lloyds had been. Lloyd’s face had always had a round and young look to it. Len’s face was longer and more angled.
The biggest difference was the smile though. Len had a bit of a proud tint to his. Lloyd’s had always had a devious edge to his. It could be uncomfortable to see on his overtly innocent face, but he’d always had a sharp smile that hinted at some underhanded cunning. It was a trait Lloyd rarely, if ever, used, but having been raised the way he was he could never shake that sardonic touch in even his most innocent smile.
“I guess we’re stuck with each other.” Len sighed, placing his book heavy back on the shelf.
It seemed more amused and resigned than his previous sighs though, so Kai let it go.
___________________________________
Jaden was bouncing on the balls of his feet gleefully holding his package. It had taken a lot of money and work to get it, but he had it now.
It was an important piece of the original Samurai X suit. With it, Jaden could summon the mysterious warrior to be his servant in the Grail War. Not to mention meet his hero.
Jaden ripped open the package and found his prize. A red gem set in some twisted gold metal. It was unrecognizable now, but Jaden was assured it had been an important piece of the first suit. Perhaps it was a decorative emblem? Or maybe it belonged on the hilt of a weapon? It could’ve belonged on the helmet. Jaden could spend all day theorizing, but he was rather eager to summon the samurai.
Jaden had no workshop, so he was preforming the ritual out in the woods behind his house. It was not the most secure location, but Jaden wasn’t too concerned. Nobody would dare start attacking before all the servants were summoned.
The red stone was placed into the circle and Jaden began the summoning ritual.
Hands shaking, breath paused, Jaden waited for the smoke to clear. He was about to come face to face with the real Samurai X. The excitement was enough to make him faint, but also enough to make him refuse to, not waiting to miss the reveal. He was about to explode when he saw a figure form in the haze.
Then it all came crashing down into confusion and disappointment.
“Who has summoned me?” came a high pitched and delicate voice.
A girl, a pretty girl, but a girl stood in front of Jaden with expectant eyes. She wore the red gem Jaden had been assured belonged to the first Samurai X mech suit around her wrist in an elaborate bracelet.
Jaden deflated. He’d been conned.
“Are you ok?” the girl asked gently.
“Yeah, I just wanted to summon someone else.” Jaden said, trying not to offend the servant he did get.
“Oh. Well I’m sorry you were unsuccessful in that, but I assure you I’m a more than capable servant. I will win the Grail for you.” She said
Jaden smiled a bit. At least he’d gotten someone nice.
“I’m Jaden, if you don’t mind me asking….?”
“OH! Nya. I’m a Rider class.”
“Well at least I got that right.” Jaden was always the type to hold on to positives.
Nya…Rider laughed lightly.
“So, what can you do?” Jaden asked.
“I’m the master of water. I was one of the legendary Ninja.” Rider said proudly.
“Oh? That’s great!” Jaden was a great deal less disappointed and worried after hearing that he’d summoned one of the ninja.
“I’m glad.” Rider said with a smile.
_____
Taylor was tired and wanted to leave. Her dad talked to Caster, making plans for the upcoming war while she sat there like a third wheel. She had to stay though, because Caster was technically her servant. Not that it really mattered, her dad called the shots, she just had the command seals.
“And the target on my back” she thought bitterly.
She was the one the other masters would be trying to kill, not him.
Still, her father always got what he wanted, and he wanted the Grail. Taylor had no choice but to do his bidding, as she always would.
She still fantasied about using her command seals to make her servant off himself and drop out of the running right there. Her dad would be so mad. He’d probably lock her in the dungeon.
Maybe it would be worth it anyways….
_____
Gerald looked at his command seals proudly. He’d managed to summon one of the most feared Assassins there was. The last of the Anacondrai, Pythor. With such a deadly servant he was sure to win the Grail.
It had been hard to do the summoning without getting caught, but the attic in Darkley’s was secluded enough during classes. The kids that skipped chose more interesting places to be, and the kids that got caught were taken back to the classrooms in the lower floors.
“HEY!”
About to call Assassin to kill whoever had snuck up on him in panic, Gerald stopped his mouth in time when he realized it was just Bradly, his dormmate.
“What do you want?” Gerald asked, adjusting his glasses to hide the tremor in his hands.
He had really thought one of the other servants was about to kill him for a second there.
“What’s up with your hand?” Bradly asked.
“None of your business” Gerald snapped.
He was going to need to find a better excuse if he wanted to keep being in the Holy Grail War a secret, but it was just Bradly for now. Gerald could just intimidate him into keeping his trap shut.
Meanwhile, in noncorporeal form, Assassin cursed his luck. He was doomed to constantly get stuck with clueless boarding school brats, wasn’t he?
__________
“I want my father back.” Zack said.
Cole was startled. For many reasons. No small amount of his unease came from Zack’s appearance. He looked too much like Zane.
Zack was less centered than the ice ninja ever was though and was tearfully declaring his wish to be bringing the dead back.
“That’s your wish?”
“It is all I desire, Lancer.”
Cole cringed again. He didn’t particularly like being a lancer. He used a scythe not a lance. But the Grail deemed it close enough and brought him back as a Lancer class to fight in the Holy Grail War.
“I’ll do my best.” Cole finally said.
He had a feeling this kid wasn’t going to get the happy ending he wanted.
____
“UP AND AT ‘EM!”
Len shot up, his blankets finding their way to the floor and his heart planning it’s escape from his chest, coming face to face with Saber’s far too gleeful face.
“What is wrong with you!?” Len yelled.
Saber just laughed lightly, putting is hands up in a pacifying motion.
“Don’t be too mad, I made you breakfast.”
“What? Why?” Len asked, running to the kitchen to see what awaited him.
Saber never did answer him. Not that Len noticed. He got to the kitchen and was now had a new question.
“Are those chocolate chip pancakes?”
“I had a feeling you had a sweet tooth.” Saber shrugged.
Len bit his lip and swallowed. Saber was right, and as much as that should’ve freaked Len out, he was too busy forcing himself not to cry.
“This isn’t worth being upset about, let alone crying. Stop it Len!”
Mentally scolding himself for a moment, Len managed to keep his tears unshed before sitting down and putting food on his plate. Honestly, he didn’t know why he nearly cried. So he hadn’t had chocolate chip pancakes since his tenth birthday, what part of that was worth crying about?
“You alright?”
“I’m fine.”
Len hoped Saber didn’t notice his emotional reaction. It wasn’t like there was a real reason for it and he definitely didn’t want to have to explain something so senseless so early in the morning.
Luckily Saber took his answer and didn’t test it. He sat down and started to load his own plate with food and eating.
Len relaxed. As rude as his wake-up had been, it was nice to have a warm breakfast for once. There were song birds outside and sunshine pouring through the window, setting a pleasant morning setting. It was the type of morning Len hadn’t had for a long time.
“Where are your parents?”
And his happy moment was gone.
“My mom works.” Len said sharply.
“Your dad?”
“Dead.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
Len both stabbed and chewed his next bite of food with a more strength than needed. To make his anger about the topic known? To blow off some stress from it being brought up? Who could say?
“Do you wake up alone a lot?”
Len’s teeth ground together.
“Why are you asking so many questions?”
Saber had the decency to look away and it was quiet for a moment while the two finished eating. Len broke it and sighed after he rinsed off his plate.
“Just so you know, there’s another Master at school. We have an agreement. The Grail War stays outside the school grounds. So, don’t freak out, ok?” Len explained.
He was not looking forward to Haruki’s taunts when she found out he failed to summon the green ninja. Maybe he could play it off like he’d wanted to summon Kai? No. She’d never buy that. He was just going to have to suffer through her laughter.
“How much do they know about you?” Saber asked.
“We’ve been rivals since we were little. She comes from a different mage family and we’ve both been groomed for the Holy Grail War for as long as I can remember. We’ve been in the same class every year since we started school too, so she knows a lot.” Len listed, tying his shoes.
“She knows you’re a descendent of the green ninja?” Saber had a calculating look, looking at the wall like it had a battle plan painted on it.
“Yeah, why?”
Saber’s eyes snapped their intense focus to Len.
“Do not tell her who you’ve summoned.”
“Wasn’t planning in it. I’m never gonna hear the end of it when she finds out I failed my summoning.”
“I’m serious Len. I will stay with you in noncorporeal form, but I won’t show myself unless I absolutely have to. She’s probably going to assume you summoned Lloyd and we’re going to let her think that, alright? Her thinking she knows who your servant is, is going to be a huge advantage.”
Len blinked.
Once.
Twice.
That was smart.
Len hadn’t realized that by failing, he’d gained the element of surprise.
“Haruki’s probably been strategizing assuming I succeeded. She’s getting ready for the wrong opponent!”
“And we’re going to let her keep doing that. See if you can get her to slip up and tell you any hints about who she’s summoned, alright?”
Len nodded, wide eyed.
“And by the way,” Saber said, putting his hand on Len’s head “You didn’t fail.”
“But…. I did though.”
Saber just smiled and shook his head. He gave Len’s head an affectionate rubbing then disappeared.
Len Stood there for a few seconds trying to figure out how the heck Saber thought that before realizing he needed to get heading to school.
By the time he slid into his assigned seat though, he settled on Saber just being an ego maniac.
--
So that introduces the set up pretty well.
Archer is getting killed by Pythor before much happens. Not important. Caster is Clouse.
At some point Not-Gene, or Gerald is going to get his command seals and servant stolen by Not-Chen, or Taylor’s father.
Not-Jay, or Jaden figures out that he did summon Samurai X when Nya uses her Nobel Phantasm.
Len will have to use a command seal to get Kai to attack her.
Not-Harumi, or Haruki summoned Morro as a Berserker.
Not-Lloyd, or Len didn’t fail his summoning. Lloyd himself made the decision to send Kai in his place, Kai figured out why he was there when he got a read on Len’s issues. Hence him taking on a care giving role.

“Natalie”/Nya sighed she was finally going to go talk to Sensei Garmadon, she had kept chickening out as the responsibility of being the one to save everyone was getting too much but she knew she had to talk to Sensei Garmadon if she wanted help, she really hoped “Kyle” wouldn’t come back when she was gone as she still had to deal with knowing her brother was the Scarlet Ninja and she can only deal with one can of worms at a time, even so she left a note saying she's out and will be back later just in case he did come back
with a sigh "Natalie"/Nya left her and her brother's house to head to Ninjago's History Museum as she walked to the museum, thanks to her having her memories back she noticed how different this realm's Ninjago's City and her own were like how this Ninjago City was a city well her's was not
"Natalie"/Nya kept walking until she saw a familiar face the definitely shouldn't be in this realm
"Natalie"/Nya💧:"Brad?!"
Brad🌺:”Nya?”
Natalie/Nya💧:”Brad...how’d you end up here!? And why are you a kid again?!”
Brad🌺:”it was Rey and the Overlord....they had stolen the Realm Crystal in our realm and that’s how I ended up here but....I dunno why I’m a kid again....I looked like this when I fell through the realm portal
“Natalie”/Nya let out a groan, how could she forget about the Realm Crystal, that’s how they ended up in this realm! Actually she forgot about it pretty easily didn’t she? She forgot about everything easily thanks to Rey and the Overlord....
“Natalie”/Nya💧:”Brad, did Rey and the Overlord have anything else on them i— me and the others ended up getting amnesia thanks to something those two did, i...recently got my memories back but everyone else still doesn’t remember anything”
Brad🌺:"I'm sorry Nya, I didn't see anything but uh Sensei Garmadon is here he's-- "
Natalie/Nya cut Brad off to finish the sentence
Natalie/Nya💧:"--Alive, yeah i know, I didn't realize that it was him before but once I got my memories back...."
Natalie/Nya gave a sad smile
Natalie/Nya💧:"I'm hoping that he can help me with a plan to get everyone's memories back...so I'm heading to the museum..."
Brad🌺:"Do...do you know if Lloyd was hit as well...?"
Natalie/Nya💧:"No he wasn't but it seems Pythor kidnapped him....that's why I need to talk to Sensei Garmadon, I need a plan to rescue Lloyd as well...."
Brad frowned at the thought of his boyfriend being stuck with Pythor
Brad🌺:"I can take you to the museum! I've.....actually been living with Sensei Garmadon ever since I fell into this realm..."
Natalie/Nya💧:"That'd be great Brad, let's go!"
Natalie/Nya gave a soft smile and held Brad's hand as they walked to the museum
Brad🌺:"Sensei Garmadon!"
Sensei G let out a sigh as he was cleaning up the entryway of the museum
Sensei G🐍:"I've told you not to call me that when we're at--"
Sensei G then noticed Natalie/Nya
Sensei G🐍:"Oh--"
Natalie/Nya gave a shy smile as her eyes teared up
Natalie/Nya💧:"Hey Sensei Garmadon..."
Sensei G🐍:"Nata--"
Natalie/Nya💧:"It's--it's Nya--from your realm! look t-the Overlord came back and he--he partnered up with someone, Rey he's  from Darkley's boarding school for bad boys and they stole the Realm Crystal and something else that erases memories....they used them on me and the others and sent us here and we all have amnesia....I only recently got my memories back...I'm--i'm not sure if Lloyd was effected by whatever took our memories but he's--"
Sensei G🐍:"--been kidnapped by Pythor...yes I know....I'm sorry all this has happened to you and the others Nya but I'm here to help the best i can..."
"Natalie"/Nya gave a watery laugh
"Natalie"/Nya💧:"Thanks Sensei....Me, Kai, Jay and Zane all go to Ninjago high well Cole goes Marty Openheimer School Of Performing Arts...i was thinking about getting Jay's memories back first and then Cole's as he and Jay are the closest, at least Zane has me and Jay around to hopefully jog his memories but with Cole off in a different school I think it'd be best to get him after Jay and then Zane"
Sensei G🐍:"that sounds like a good plan but what about your brother?"
"Natalie"/Nya gave a shaky breath
"Natalie"/Nya💧:"you know the Scarlet Ninja who's been running around causing problems? Kai is the Scarlet Ninja...Rey manipulated him into believing that the Ninja Force were the bad guys....I think we'll need Lloyd to help with Kai's memories...."
Sensei G🐍:"so get Jay, Cole and Zane's memories back and then rescue my son and then get Kai's memories back, that sounds like a solid plan Nya"

Ok now I did some research and finally fixed the ninjas into how they'd fit into the Magnus Institute so here's the stuff, GET READY FOR A RAMBLE :DDD
I have the notes
Tumblr media
NOTES:
This AU's timeline is not the same as the original Magnus Archives' timeline! The ninja boys took over the institute long after Jon and the others passed away so have no fear of spoilers for the podcast aside from the existence of entities! :D
Context:
For those who don't understand the TMA universe it is a world where the supernatural exists and people who experience it goes to the Magnus Institute where they give a statement, via letter or a personal statment to the archivist who mostly reads the stories and records it by a tape recorder (because they're old style).
They put it in the records data and gather more information about the supernatural being on whether it is avoidable or could be solved. Sometimes it doesn't even need to get solved and a statment of a supernatural event is good enough.
This supernatural is tied to 14 entities that manufactures these beings through fears. Avatars are people who are tied to these beings either willingly or unwillingly by ritual which gives them certain abilities. You gotta die for it tho.
I'm not gonna go on full detail what these entities are but I will describe my important ones and their traits to have more context to the characters.
The Desolation: what a bitch this entity is, seriously. It's the entity that feeds on fear of pain, loss, burning, fear of unthinking or cruel destruction. Always has a grill party in the backyard. It has a cult.
The Eye: are you a private person? Well Nord VPN can't save you this time. It feeds on the fear of being watched, exposed, followed, having secrets known, drive to know and understand even if it destroys you. Fun times.
The Buried: feeds on the fear of being trapped, pressured, crushed, drowning, heaviness, and sinking. Kinda cool until you find yourself trapped in a coffin for 2 weeks.
The Vast: feeds on the fear of our own insignificance in this universe, loosing yourself in too much space. Basically 12 year old me.
The Web: you like spiders? Well, this entity manufacturers on the fear of being controlled, entrapped, being trapped and not knowing it, your will not being your own, or being manipulated. It is often seen in the symbol of spiders. *shivers*
The Hunt: i love this bitch, the Hunt is so gucci to listen in action. It is the animalistic and initial fear of being hunted/chased or becoming prey. It's Avatars are called Hunters and gain enhanced health and seem predatory and feral.
Now that the entities are out of the way
ON WITH THE CHARACTERS!
Kai Smith
He was invited by Wu to work on the Magnus Institute as a new archivist. Needing a job, Kai agrees where he meets Cole, Jay, and Zane where they soon become great friends after solving a statment that has been abandoned for dacades. Kai is unknowingly an Avatar of the Desolation, which gives Kai has the ability of sharply noticing things others don't, such as information or sentences that doesn't seem important but actually is. (y'all thought i'm giving him fire, hah! Let's not focus too much on that)
Jay Walker
Worked for the institute with Cole and Zane for 4 years before Kai became the new archivist. He works on finding information in high places such as police records or government files. Jay discovered the Vast entity when he was 14, living in the desert with his parents and kind of became an Avatar by accident because he really freaked out when he was suddenly lost in sand dunes with no one around. He has the ability to paralyze people, locking them in place as if frozen even if they're on air.
Cole Brookstone
I've seen plenty of people put Cole as the Avatar of the Buried but GET THIS: HUNTER COLE. Enhanced strength and health, hunts down mosters and avatars he'd love to kill??? :DDD He did get into loads of trouble that connects to the Buried entity but he never really terrified of it so, maybe it's like a respectable fear for it to Cole. He works as the protector and searcher for the institute, the first person hired unwillingly by Wu by binding but soon got used the institute and Wu. At least he can still freely move from place to place rather than just staying in the institute. He can hunt down people easily with just a place and a name and as a Hunter he has this ability to know where people are by touching the ground.
Zane Julien
Second hire after Cole, so both of them are quite close. Zane is orphaned at a young age and couldn't remember remember anything before that. Was hired by Wu which he accepted. Zane was poorly troubled at the thought of his unknown past that he nearly went to the hospital on how unhealthy his research was. The Eye soon made Zane a Avatar, from Zane going mad by paranoia and fear of where he came from that Cole had to stop his hunting schedules and keep Zane down and help him. Zane and Cole eventually was able to heal from Zane's lost past by jokingly making up stories of where Zane came from when Jay arrived. They sometimes tell Jay he is a emperor from japan, that he is a robot heavyly programed to do good and cook kickass food, that Zane trained in a clan of ninjas before Jay learned not to trust anything the two were saying. Jay and Zane enjoy talking alot since they'te both knowledgeable on tech than Cole and Kai. Zane has the ability to put ideas into people's heads that affect their actions, that the 'victim' would think said actions was their idea, like walking out a door.
Lloyd Garmadon
Not part of the Institute. He's a student journalist that goes around poking into people's business and most especially into the Magnus Institute's records which gave a bit of a bad first impression on the guys when they caught him snooping. Lloyd is however allowed access in because of Wu's influences and soon became friends with Kai first, then the others. Lloyd isn't a Avatar which is great because being controlled by an entity kinda sucks but Lloyd is hunted often by the Web because of his fears of being controlled without his will and him going after people and areas with supernatural encounters because, journalism! Cole babysits Lloyd from afar. He often finds comfort around the ninja crew and likes spending time with them other than in school where he's often avoided and ridiculed by his peers. After several weeks the ninjas have all decided that they are willing to die for Lloyd, who they all treat as a younger sibling. Also! Lloyd is totally trans in this au.
And that's that for now! Might write about the side characters if any of you guys want more. It's kinda OOC about the avatars really because it basically canonically takes loads of years for an entity to charge up enough energy to posses an avatar but eh, creative writing for power using boys.
Also you guys probably noticed I didn't make the boy's abilities as their original elements? weeeellll it's kinda because it has to fit in the tma universe where everything is more subtle than outgoing when it comes to powers.
I also noticed that the only way I can write long ass sentences is when I ramble so that's a thing.
Have a great day! Statement ends.
