What about Hunter teaching Omega how to dance?? 🥺🥺🥺🥺
LIZ THIS IS TOO CUTE STOOOOP, OMG 😭
Sorry it made me think of this gif. Father/daughter fluff, leave me alone i am made of jelly
Tumblr media
Hunter didn't fancy himself the 'dad type'. Traveling, bounty hunting, endless scrapping and fighting, and frequenting Cyd's little bar wasn't an ideal location for a child. Hunter glanced at Omega as she tapped through the holoscreen on the jukebox in the corner. Her face was so identical to his and his brothers- a replica unlike any other he had met.
He chided himself. Clones are not fathers.
But something in his nature warmed when he saw her eyes fill with that happiness when she looked at the stars, or smelled clean grass, or explored new planets. Hunter smiled to himself, running a hand over his armorless arm as he leaned on the bar, watching. Omega's brow quirked- like Tech's- and her lips pursed as she read the titles of the songs- like Wrecker's- and she skimmed the list.
"Hunter?"
Blinking, Hunter lowered his drink as the smaller clone turned to look back at him. "Yeah, kid?"
"You know any of these songs?"
Hunter lowered his cup. He was nearly finished with the drink anyway. "Lemme look." Hunter lumbered over, the taste of cheap drink sour in his mouth. Omega stepped away from the jukebox, small fingers tapping each other as they steepled, probably an Echo habit. He smiled sideways towards her, noting briefly that the rainbow light of the jukebox looked bright and demanding on her hair, especially compared to his and his brothers own dark locks. "Huh. Bunch of stuff on here." Hunter thumbed through, tagging over the list of songs.
Omega bounced on her toes as Hunter selected a song, one he vaguely recalled the name of from skimming through whatever networks he could get when he was planetside through the war.
The notes were far more lilted and bright than they were on a crackling ship radio. It was energetic, even, and Hunter looked down at Omega, feeling his lip twitch in amusement. "This whatcha wanted?"
She nodded, her whole body hopping now. Giggling as she reached up, Omega clasped Hunter's hands.
Hunter wasn't quite sure what happened. All military thought melted away and he felt a laugh, a low grumbly chuckle, reverberate in his chest as he held her hands. He was the shortest of his brothers, but even he forgot how small the child was. Hunter grinned and moved with her as she danced. Her feet stepped on the tops of his, and Hunter moved with the music, being the guide for the small girl. Omega's laugh was light. From here, war was a distant thought, or more akin to a memory of some horrible days long passed.
Sure. Normal soldiers weren't fathers.
Good thing he was from a bad batch of soldiers.

self notes for Clone Wars series2
s2ep1 Holocron heist . Anakin and ObiWan are fighting on a planet, ObiWan pulls Anakin out the way of a crashing ship and they head out, Obiwan calling Ahsoka who refuses to retreat, they land in front of her, Anakin ordering her to get on.  “Where’s Ahsoka?” anikan shes YOUR padawan “Following your teachings.” the disapproval “Is she winning?” “For now.” . In front of the council for disobeying, despite anikin’s light defense as her master, they give her archive guard duty. Meanwhile Anakin and Obiwan briefly discuss the setback then discuss and split up to search for an intruder. After reporting to each other, they join up to go through the ventilation vents after Cadbane. In the archives, Ahsoka persues and catches the disguised intruder and coms anakin to tell him so he and Obiwan continue through the vents to find the other, avoiding a bomb in a droid. They all convene and find something missing.
s2ep2 Cargo of Doom . on a ship, Anakin and Ahsoka with clones land on the enemy ship top and get in to find the stolen thing. In a room w droids and Bane the gravity turns off as they fight, then ahsoka goes alone after Bane while there’s a cave in at the hangar on top of anakin and the clones. Seperated from them, Anakin quickly wakes up and orders Rex gang back to a ship as he goes after Ahsoka who has been captured by Bane. With Ahsoka in danger, Anakin opens the thing for Bane before forcing his and ahsoka’s lightsabers and using them until the door is closed and gives ahsoka’s back to her. Running to Rex and the ship, Ahsoka convinces him a bit hysterically to leave rather than go after Bane. They scape back to the main ship. “You can’t be serious” / “I AM GENERAL THANK YOU FOR YOUR OPINION” the poor man is just doing his job anaking-pls-- ; and later “I seem to have misplaced my padawan” / “Of all the Jedi, why did I have to end up with SKYWALKER” Admiral or whatever pls. ObiWan is just as bad for one
s2ep3 Children of the Force . continuation. Bane reveals himself as a disguise trooper and makes his escape despite Anakin trying to get on the fighter to stop him. With younglings being kidnapped, gang set off seperately to save them, Obiwan finding but failing to catch Bane. Anakin and Ahsoka go to Naboo, the latter splitting off to find Bane and Anakin joining her in stopping him escape, tackling him to the ground a little roughly. Arresting him, jedi reconvene to interrogate Bane. Mentioning reporting, Obiwan amusedly tells Anakin to do it then while he and Windu go off. Anakin calls after him, bit worried, but they assage his concern.  “This could be a trap, Master. Are you sure you don’t need us to go?” thats the softest voice he’s ever spoken in,, blesss worry boi . After reporting, Ahsoka and Anakin work on Bane’s small ship and decide to go to mentioned mustafar. Arriving, they sense and rescue the kids from some droids, escaping back to the jedi council to report and learn bane escaped too
s2ep4 Senate Spy . oh that. Was actually rather sweet with Padme and Anakin there. More amusingly, Anakin just exasperated that he has to report and he’s been ignoring ObiWan’s signals all night,, what a insolent padawan. Padme is spying for council on another senator, Anakin is in disguise to watch but really just be a bitch bc he doesn’t like this guy.
s2ep5 Landing at Point Rain . Anakin and Ahsoka join Obiwan and Mundi on a ship bridge, the former two smugly mentioning how many kills they had even when Obiwan isn’t amused bc they’re aleady late. They plan prep but ObiWan and Anakin just banter instead “Come now. What happened to all the enthusiasm I saw earlier.” “Don’t worry about us. You just make sure you get yourself to that landing zone in one piece.” the affectionate yet sarcastic yet smug way he puts his arm on obiwan’s shoulder- i fuckin-- “Yes, and I shall be waiting for you when you finally arrive.” and then lady who they’re STILL on call with just “gentlemen if you are QUITE finished we have a battle to begin” ahskjsfk everyone’s tired of these little shits . Gunships go down to drop the generals to fight, Obiwan on one, Anakin and Ahsoka on another, and Mundi also heading down. Anakin’s team is shot down so they get out to fight and advance on the surface. others are also shot and grounded, Obiwan’s team crashed. Cody tells Rex who tells Anakin that Obiwan is down and can’t help. “Great! The one time I actually ask ObiWan for help and he’s nowhere to be found.” “Hey. I’m worried about him too. But you have to keep your mind in the here and now or else we’ll never be able to help ObiWan.” bless . Rex’s clones find and get Obiwan and a tropper to safety, informing him of the situation and they decide to wait for the other two. Anakin’s team come across a giant wall that they need to get over. “Well this is anothre FINE mess you’ve gotten us into” “What?!Hey, It’s not my fault! You were supposed to study the holomaps!” “I DID! Remember, when i reminded you, about the giant wall, and you said, ‘Don’t worry Snips, we won’t be anywhere near that’!” you’re being SHOT AT and you’re still just bantering,, . Anakin and Ahsoka reach the top of the wall - still maintaning how many they each shot down - and with Rex’s help get explosive inside then jump off and avoid having it cave in on them. Eventually they all catch up to where Obiwan’s team are holding ground, and reunite with him. Despite sitting in some pain, Obiwan briefs them on the next plan, and Anakin and Ahsoka head out again to finish the fight. Done, Anakin helps Obiwan to the leaving ship as Ahsoka notes she got more droids down than him. On the ship, Mundi speaks up that he won to a bemused Anakin and smug Obiwan who didn’t understand it anyway
s2ep6 Weapons Factory . left on geonosis, a bickering Anakin and Ahsoka are joined by Luminere and her padawan barris to infiltrate the droid factory and destroy it. The padawans go off alone while a mildly concerned Anakin and Luminere advance their clones to fight the droids. Underneath, the padawans set about planting bombs, before they’re attacked. Above, clones fall back as Anakin and master plant bombs under the bridge and jump up to detonate them. That sorted, escape ships coming in but Anakin refuses to leave without the padawans, despite Rex’s VERY insistant “I SUGGEST you get ON ONE” he just wants his general safe,, bless. . underground the padawans hide in a tank as they blow up the place around themselves. Above, Anakin frantically insists they can find them and start searching. Trapped in the tank, Ahsoka tries to get her comm working, then they quietly hold hands. It works, and the top team dig them out alive. “I knew you’d come looking for me.” said the master “I never doubted you for a second.” to the padawan - But I also feel for Luminere’s quote: “If my padawan has perished, I will mourn her. But I will celebrate her as well through her memory.”

if you dont mind i would love to hear your thoughts on how and why peter seems to be more fulfilled by lower paying jobs (i.e photography, teaching) rather than by high paying jobs in STEM
(Sorry for the wait, anon! I did get this first ask, as you can see, it’s just that sometimes I tend to hoard asks that I want to give long in-depth answers to and then they get buried.)
So I think to best answer this the first thing we have to do is look at Peter’s 616 employment history -- what jobs he’s had when and for approximately how long. So here we have a more or less definitive list -- I may have skipped over a few minor jobs that aren’t important in the long run of the character history, but for the most part this is accurate. For the sake of brevity I am not going to count things he’s done as Spider-Man that have earned him money, like a brief bodyguard stint or his occasional time with the Avengers, because this is really more about his identity as Peter Parker and how his civilian employment plays into his life as Spider-Man than about his life as Spider-Man.
Works for the Daily Bugle on and off, through a variety of positions from part time to salaried, from the age of 15 onwards. Primarily a photographer. How good of a photographer Peter actually is varies from writer to writer, but he remains unmatched in his ability to get certain shots ranging from ones of Spider-Man (duh) to particularly high risk environments (different duh). He also briefly worked for rival newspaper the Daily Globe, the Bugle’s main competitor. His position as a full time newspaper photographer is his most well known (and most consistent) job.
A TA in grad school at Empire State University. At this point in time he labeled himself as having “the wrong temperament” for teaching -- and I would personally say I think his stints teaching college are much less engaging than high school.
Published author. His book, Webs, a collection of his Spider-Man photography, was a major bestseller that sent him on a book tour around the country. I hesitated sticking this on here because it’s very tied into his work with the Bugle -- and he was still working for the Bugle when the book was published -- but I figured it was worth including for the novelty of the fact that Peter’s technically a best selling author/artist.
Peter worked as a scientist at Galannan Alternative Research for Immunization Development (GARID) in Portland after his clone Ben Reilly took over the identity of Spider-Man. Although often overlooked in discussions of Peter’s job history, I think his stint at GARID is important in part because it illustrates how much of Peter’s time being Spider-Man took up and how a job with flexible hours was necessary for that balancing act. When he was working at GARID, Peter wasn’t Spider-Man, so it wasn’t difficult for him to keep a position at a laboratory.
I mean granted the GARID job didn’t last long and there was sort of a whole big mutated monster case going on with it but you know. Anyway he pretty quickly moved back to New York and started working for the Bugle again.
Peter’s next major job at a lab comes in another period where he’s supposed to have quit being Spider-Man. (Which he did, very temporarily, and then he very much didn’t. Anyway, you’re seeing the pattern here.) He briefly worked at Tricorp, a private brain trust. This is a really short-lived position, even as Peter’s science gigs go, because -- Spider-Man.
At this point things get dicey employment-wise as Peter heads into a weird period of canon where Mary Jane was presumed dead. She wasn’t! But everyone thought she was. It was weird. When MJ came back (and promptly left for LA, not that I blame her), Peter exited this period of limbo by becoming a science teacher at his old school, Midtown High. This is the main career, beside news photography, that I think he really shines in.
Civil War/One More Day/Brand New Day hit and completely tank the direction of Spider-Man history. Peter’s marriage is erased by the devil and also he’s not a high school teacher anymore, for some reason, even though nobody remembers he’s Spider-Man anymore which is the reason he initially lost the Midtown High job. Make it make sense. Anyway, in Marvel’s desperate scramble to take Spider-Man back to the unmarried basics, as if they even got new readers that way, Peter returned to photography. When Dexter Bennett bought the Bugle out from under JJJ while JJJ was sick, Peter began working for the newly minted “DB” as a tabloid photographer. It wasn’t great.
He also briefly at some point in here worked at a comic book store for like five minutes. Mostly he complained about people who read comic books and made jokes about how he doesn’t get along with the X-Men.
Under Slott’s run, Peter began working at Horizon Labs. Slott had a pretty major problem with Peter’s genius not being “recognized enough” and constantly had him inventing new things, showing off, etc.
Horizon Lab became Parker Industries under Otto Octavius when he bodyjacked Peter during Superior Spider-Man and made himself CEO. When Peter got his body back, he was still CEO. It was bad but Peter did tank the company on purpose so that Otto and also nazis couldn’t get their hands on it, which was sort of fun.
Peter went back to work for the Bugle, but as their science editor, because Slott was still in charge and there was some weird commentary about photography not being an adult job. Which I think is pretty weird in a medium that’s very dependent on visual art. But okay.
Then Peter got fired because he was busted for plagiarism of Otto Octavius’ work... that Otto did himself... while he was in Peter’s body... and Peter couldn’t reveal this because then he’d have to explain... and maybe I hate comics.
In MC2 he becomes a forensic scientist! I really like this for him actually. I think it combines his interests and experiences in a very thoughtful way. But I do want to note it’s after a Spider-Man career ending injury, so again there’s not a real conflict there between his work as Spider-Man and a career.
Peter I think is an especially interesting case in how his character ties into his employment history because one of the first things he does in his story is figure out how to make money, and he does this because the Parkers don’t have any. If Ben and May were comfortable -- even comfortable enough that their teenaged nephew was unaware of financial pressures -- Spider-Man’s story would be completely different. But Peter immediately feels he pressure to use his new powers to earn money, at first with brute strength. And what he says he’s going to do with his earnings is that he’s going to take care of Ben and May:
Tumblr media
(Amazing Fantasy #15) So the concept of Peter as someone who is very aware of financial pressure and who is pretty explicitly linking money to support is present from the absolute beginning. But at the same time, there’s a kind of selfishness presented in him here -- he’s only going to take care of Ben and May. They’re the only ones he cares about here, because as he’s stated they’re the only ones who have ever “been kind” to him. Peter at the beginning of his story is very rooted in his anger and his bitterness, and it takes him losing Uncle Ben -- because it wasn’t Peter’s “job” to stop the burglar -- to get him to the point where he starts to be able to see beyond that.
Ben’s death also heightens the Parker’s financial pressures -- Ben is the primary earner in the household. (Aunt May in the original context of the early 1960s was most likely a homemaker, and as an older woman especially she wouldn’t be expected to have a job. But even moving the timescale up to a point where she would be expected as a woman to hold down a job, it’s important to note that early in Spider-Man canon Aunt May is depicted as being in very poor physical health.) While it’s not clear in the initial Spider-Man stories what Ben did, it’s clear that with his death whatever income the Parkers had coming in abruptly stops:
Tumblr media
(ASM #1) This sets in concrete one of the central conflicts Peter and May have -- both of them lie to protect the other. Peter feigns being an ordinary boy in order to protect May from the stress of his secret life as Spider-Man, worried that she wouldn’t be strong enough to handle the danger he regularly puts himself in. But this is a learned behavior, and here we see that he most likely learned it from May: she doesn’t want him to worry about the very deep financial troubles they’re obviously in, so she pawns her jewelry, and she stresses to him the importance of his education. Again I have to note that there are some pretty significant social differences between the 1960s and today in regards to this story -- Betty Brant, for example, notes that she had to drop out of school and become a secretary because of her own family’s financial problems, something she’s ashamed of. So early Spider-Man is very rooted in money, class, education, and how those things intersect. I think it should be noted that the only early Spider-Man characters who are financially well-off are Liz, Gwen, and Harry. (We don’t know anything about Flash’s financial situation in early Spider-Man comics but retroactively we know his family situation is not well-off.) In high school, Liz’s father is a bigshot who owns a dining club, but later on the Allans experience financial hardship with Liz quite literally being on the streets when Peter reunites with her when he’s in college. Harry’s father is a rich businessman, but from the beginning he’s depicted as emotionally negligent, caring more about money than spending time with his son:
Tumblr media
(ASM #40) “After all... I had a business to care of! Money was the most important thing of all! I had to get rich! I needed wealth... for that was the key to power!” So right away you have this link between wealth, corruption, and negligence. Norman’s pursuit of wealth is his given reason for his neglect of Harry. Later on we’d learn that Norman’s father was also abusive and that that abuse formed Norman’s ideas about power and wealth. (Spider-Man! It’s about cycles of abuse!) There’s a very contrast between Norman’s attitudes here and the Parkers loving (but poor) household. Gwen is the only exception here -- she and her father are depicted as comfortable, most likely edging into wealthy, although on nowhere the level the Osborns have been elevated to. But compared to Peter, Flash, and Mary Jane especially -- all from poor households, with MJ and Flash’s fathers both being abusive -- Gwen’s home situation is the picture of stability, both in terms of economic status and in terms of her loving and very present father.
My goal in outlining all of this isn’t to say that Spider-Man’s message is definitively “money is bad” because I don’t think it is. I think as a series Spider-Man is very aware of the comfort that money can provide. But I think there is a frequent message about excess in Spider-Man -- excess power, excess wealth. As Norman says above, in his eyes, money is the key to power. With great power, comes great responsibility. In Norman hoarding and abusing his wealth, he abuses his power. If he provides for Harry, it is solely through money -- there is no love or devotion in Norman’s money-focused world. And I think that’s important when you look at where Peter starts in his story, before Uncle Ben’s death. He’s going to use his powers to make a lot of money and he’s going to provide for Ben and May but he’s not going to care about the world outside of that. I think one of the interesting things about Peter -- and this is where Slott’s run especially fails the character -- is that he’s not interesting in getting rich. He’d like to be comfortable, for sure -- he’d like to have enough money to not have worry about it, to not have the need to hustle impede what he can do as Spider-Man, to be able to take care of his family. (And there’s some machismo stuff linked in here for him too -- in the early days of their marriage the fact that Mary Jane earns much more than him is something he struggles with.) But he doesn’t care about being rich. He doesn’t care about the money; he cares about the support that the money would bring.
That feels like a simple statement but I think it’s actually a really big distinction, especially when you’re analyzing a character. And I think it’s because Peter understands that value that it makes him so empathetic to others who have financial struggles. One of my favorite short self-contained Spider-Man stories is called Windfall, from Marvel Fanfare #42, where a mixup with a check embroils Peter in the personal affairs of a bank teller, a young single mother who is fired from her job ultimately because she refused the advances of her boss. Peter gets her her job back -- through blackmailing the boss for his other sexual affairs, which some people might think is immoral of him, but I think really speaks to Peter’s understanding of how the greater world works, and what he’s prepared to do to get bigger justice. But more importantly he uses his own money to pay the young woman’s rent, and he does it in a way where she never even knows it’s him. Because he understands her situation, the way someone who had grown up comfortable never could. And that understanding I think puts him a place where it’s more important for him to both keep that understanding and maintain that ability to act relatively freely, in the way that bigger, more prestigious positions in scientific fields might restrict him. There’s a reason he keeps getting fired from these scientific positions and it’s not that he can’t get them, because we can see from his employment history very clearly that he can. It’s because the freedom to act as Spider-Man and what he can do as Spider-Man is ultimately more important to him.
And while high school teacher is my number one favorite profession Peter has ever had, I think that his position as a newspaper photographer is also very important to the character’s history, in part because the Bugle is such a big part of his life and the connections he’s made but also because the Daily Bugle itself is important. I think it’s interesting to note that two of the biggest superheroes of all time from both of the big companies -- Spider-Man from Marvel and Superman from DC -- have had long running journalism jobs, Peter as a photographer and Clark as a reporter. I don’t think I really have to go into a whole thing about how good journalists are so important and why it matters that we have these incredibly famous mythic figures that are positioned in the roll of journalists specifically. But I do think it is important to Peter that he’s put in that position as someone who cares about uncovering the truth. So ultimately I think what I mean when I say Peter is more fulfilled by his jobs as a photojournalist and as a high school teacher than by his comparatively more high paying stints working as a scientist in a lab is that Peter gets the most fulfillment out of careers where he can actively see, day by day, that what he’s doing is helping people, and that it’s a very direct line from him to the people he’s helping. His efforts can’t be twisted, they can’t be used for other purposes the way they can within a larger organization. He has a line of control in what he can do to help other people. It’s like how Spider-Man functions best as a street level hero: what he does best is saving and helping individual people, on a case by case basis. And you can turn around and demonstrate that in his civilian life best in jobs where he gets to directly interact with people. And ultimately to Peter making that difference is more important than a better salary.

RANDOM ASKS || ALWAYS ACCEPTING
Anonymous asked:
can you explain some of your favorite character tags and why you chose them for the character/what they mean to braig?
This is a really cool question, anon! I don’t know if I have any ‘favourites’, but I do have some that are more ‘generic’, for lack of a better words, and others that are more personalized. The generic ones are typically for characters I haven’t written with - Yoda, Ki-Adi, etc etc. I can sort of theorize how Braig feels about them, but he’s never really interacted with them, so I keep it pretty plain.
For the more ‘specialized’ tags, again, I don’t have favourites, but these are based more on relationships or perceptions of characters Braig has (based on past interactions, in the case of character tags) or just Braig himself (in the case of ‘meta’ tags, eg in character, out of character, etc). But, since you asked for character tags specifically, I’ll give you a peek at those (plus relationship tags, because those relate to specific portrayals and typically have more meaning). (I feel like I should also clarify here I’m absolutely open to writing with multiples, I just so far only have one relationship per muse, ergo one tag per.)
OBI-WAN: ‘Paragon of the Order’ / ‘To Make You Proud’
This is the only case where both the character tag and the relationship tag are based on a specific portrayal. That’s simply because without Rodi/Spacedad, this boy wouldn’t exist. When I say Rodi has joint custody of Braig, I’m only half kidding. The tag ‘paragon of the Order’ is taken both from what some novels said about Obi-Wan, how he was the gold standard that other knights told their padawans to be like and all, as well as Braig’s own personal bias.  He loves his dad. He always has. In his mind, Obi is the best and brightest, so the tag reflects that. The relationship tag stems from that, as well - it’s really all Braig has ever wanted from their relationship. He just wants his dad to be proud of him. That’s it.
CODY: ‘Unwavering Loyalty’ / ‘Follow Your Lead’
Now we’re onto Cody! The Marshal Commander of the 7th Sky, and leader of the 212th. Cody is known for his loyalty, and that’s something Braig has noticed. It’s impossible to miss. Loyalty to his brothers, loyalty to his Jedi… That’s just Cody. The relationship tag, ‘Follow your lead’, is for Liz’s (nieithryn / itspersonalforus) portrayal. This is another case of Braig bonding at the hip with someone, and it’s mutual. He ADORES Cody. Of course, it took them a little bit to get into the groove of things (If you’re reading this, Liz, I’ll never be over Cody’s shift from ‘it’s a little awkward having two commanders’ to *picks up Braig* ‘oh you mean my son? My child?? My boy???’), just as it took Braig some time to find his footing in a war zone. He was only fourteen, after all. When he was still figuring out how to navigate being around  soldiers, he took cues from Cody as much as he did from Obi-Wan. And the older and more experienced Braig got, the more Cody would come to rely on him, as well. So, in that sense, the tag ‘Follow Your Lead’ is representative of the trust and faith they have in each other as colleagues, allies, friends, and, eventually, as family, too.
WOLFFE: ‘Howling Fury’ / ‘Tough Love’
This is an older one, since unfortunately Xidori hasn’t been around tumblr in quite a while, but the old folks here will remember the snarly brother. The character tag for Wolffe is pretty straightforward, I think. His name is Wolffe, he heads the Wolfpack, he’s angry a lot. Ergo, howling fury. Tough love came from, again, Xidori. Braig was entirely convinced Wolffe didn’t like him, because Wolffe was, well, Wolffe. Then one of the other clone muses on the dash started teasing Braig and Wolffe threatened to rip their head off, so. It should be noted this became a pretty common trend. He may not have always been the most affectionate, but he was a protective ori’vod, so ‘tough love’ it was.
AHSOKA TANO: ‘Earned Her Stripes’ / ‘Hear Us Roar’ / Honourable Mention: ‘Make It Through Together’
Ahsoka’s character tag is another straightforward one. It’s also a bit of a pun, which, if you know me, is about as on brand as I can get. She’s a stripey girl, but she also comes into her own over the course of the Clone Wars. She’s still a kid when we leave her, but she’s grown. So, to Braig, the ‘earned her stripes’ means that he’s acknowledging her growth, and he’s proud of her, for what it’s worth. It isn’t easy to do what they do.
And I lied! I had, for a while, two different Ahsoka relationship tags. Only one of them is ‘active’ now, since I have no idea where Alpha’s gone off to, but there were two. ‘Hear us roar’ is the platonic/familial relationship between Braig and Cortnye (iamnojedi)’s Ahsoka. These two became fast friends, bonding over a love of a certain Fett (to be discussed later), shared eyerolls while their masters bickered, and general teenage tomfoolery. It was Cortnye’s idea that these doofuses used to have roaring contests when they were babies in creche, so the tag is partly in reference to that. It’s also because neither of them shy away from a fight when it’s needed. Whether it’s standing up for the rights of the men in the Clone Wars or facing down Inquisitors in the days of the Empire, they don’t know how to go quietly into that good night. They’re a force to be reckoned with at any stage, and I like to think the tag reflects that.
The honourable mention goes out to Alpha’s Ahsoka. I can’t link a blog, because Alpha had a few, and I’m not sure which she’d prefer, but in this case, the relationship between Braig and Ahsoka was romantic. (They even had a daughter! Her name was Ashla, Ashie for short, and Braig basically acted like she hung the stars in the sky.) They started out as friends, then best friends, then Alpha and I realized it had progressed to something different, so here we were. They got up to all manner of trouble both on and off the battlefield, and tended to go to each other for comfort when things got rough. Alpha and I once said that they’d make it through anything if they had each other, so that became their tag.
BOBA FETT: ‘Strange Parallels’ / ‘Worth The Risk’
I told you we’d talk about him later, and now it’s technically later. The ‘character tag’ doesn’t necessarily mean much to Braig, since, in a ‘typical’ universe, he wouldn’t know much about our favourite hunter, but it means a bit to me. These two are surprisingly alike. Both orphans at at least one point in their lives, both carrying the legacy of their fathers on their shoulders, both lost their dads at the end of a lightsaber, both struggling to grow up in a universe that is cruel to them. Every time Obi-Wan and Jango fought, I couldn’t help but think that if the fortunes had played out differently, the boys could have almost role-swapped. I didn’t even realize it until I started talking to Darian, well after making this boy of mine, but I thought it was really cool. And speaking of Darian, how about that relationship tag?
In this case, the tag is for Darian (godshaped)’s Boba. This is, I think, the longest ship I’ve had on any of my blogs, since we’ve been writing them for at least five years - maybe six. I’m bad at counting. But yes, the boys are going strong, and that’s not about to change. I don’t think either of us expected them to go the route they did. To be fair, I’;m not sure the boys expected it, either. I still remember the moment Braig realized he’d caught feelings and they weren’t going away - the ‘oh. OH. oh no.’ will forever live in my mind. He doesn’t regret it. He’s happy. The ‘worth the risk’ kind of changed meanings over time. Originally, I think it was in part ‘worth the risk of attachment’, but they’re beyond that. They had that conversation early on, when they realized they were getting serious. ‘I love you and I don’t think I’m ever going to feel like this for anyone else, but I am a Jedi and my first commitment is always going to be to the Order.’ vs. ‘I love you too but I’m a bounty hunter  and that means I’m going to be very hard to contact at times if not completely off the radar. Also the legality of it is in question.’ Plus the general danger of their jobs. They ended up at the conclusion that ‘this was who you are before we met and will probably be who you are after, I don’t want to take that from you or get in the way of it, so we’ll just enjoy the time we have together while we can’. I’m proud of them. Anyway, I could go on about them for ages, but the tag has sort of transitioned to ‘being with you is worth the risk that comes with’, that being that Boba is a fugitive before the Republic falls, and Braig is one after. Not exactly the safest relationship, but they love each other regardless.
DARTH MAUL: ‘Tenacity of a Roach’ / ‘Changing Course’
This one is laced with a bit more of Braig’s personal opinions. Maul is hard to kill, we all know that. In canon, Braig cannot stand Maul. Maul killed his grandmaster and Maul won’t stop tormenting his master/dad. It’s not really conducive to a good relationship. That’s honestly all I have to say about that.
The ‘Changing Course’ tag is for the AU I have with Keats (rcvival). This one was a surprise for Braig. But you know what? Sometimes you just have to rehabilitate a Sith. You just gotta. This is still a relatively new one, though Braig is proud of the progress his uncle is making. He’s just trying to be very careful to not undo any of that progress, and - especially early on - not get himself stabbed. The ‘Changing Course’ tag is to show that this is changing the way the story went, in a few ways. Sidious still wins, 66 still happens, all of that, but it’s a bit of a different path for Maul to take.
MACE WINDU: ‘Steadfast and Stern’ / ‘A Violet Legacy’
In this house we love and support Mace Windu. That’s the rules. He’s a good good man and Braig knows that well; I imagine all Jedi do. But still, the war takes a toll on him. This sort of represents the two sides of Mace we see: The man who holds firm to his beliefs, and the man who has to represent and defend the Order in public settings. Steadfast and stern.
The relationship tag is for another one of Liz’s kids: Grandpa Mace. Another one of Braig’s favourites, and the person who came closest to training kiddo before Obi swooped in to scoop him up. If you get it, you get it: Grandpa tried to poach him with bird facts. The long and short of it is Braig loves his grandpa, and this should come as no surprise to anyone. The fact that Mace takes him on as a student of Vapaad only adds to that. It’s an honour to be taught that style, an honour to be seen as good enough, but it also gives them a fair amount of one on one time. They talk a lot during cool-down periods. Sometimes it’s about their days, or general thoughts, or the war, and sometimes Mace just told him stories. Braig learned a lot from him. He hopes that, by passing on these lessons, he can keep some of Mace’s memory alive, even if only in a small way.
Also, they both have purple lightsabers.
SHAAK TI: ‘Matriarch of Millions’ / ‘A Mother’s Love’
Ah, yes. Mama Ti. Matriarch seemed to fit because, whether or not you view her as being motherly to the clones, she’s definitely in charge. And there are, well, millions of them. So, yes, another straight-forward one.
As for the relationship tag, this one goes out to Sam (strcngered) and the mama they wrote for many years. (Fun fact, this is the character Sam was writing when we met, so, on a meta level, Shaak is very special to me.) Now, Braig doesn’t know what it’s like to have a mother in the traditional Western nuclear family sense. He doesn’t know what it’s like to have a traditional ‘family’ at all. His memories begin at the Temple. They would’ve ended there, too, but Palpatine is awful. All that aside, Braig has never felt like he was ‘missing out’, so to speak. Part of that was because of masters like Shaak. In our threads, this boy was absolutely doted on. He still has the baby blanket she made for him. (Or, he does until the Order falls. Again, Palpatine is awful.) He still draws great comfort and security from the sound of purring. And it’s all because of his mama.
RAKO HARDEEN: ‘Learned to Hate’ / ‘Shattered Trust’
Fuck this guy. That’s basically what Rako’s character tag means, as far as Braig is concerned. Just fuck this guy. The Hardeen arc in general was a horrible time for him. He was maybe fifteen (which, granted, is kind of old for watching your dad die in Star Wars), he had no master and no idea what he was going to do, he watched his dad die (as I said), nobody seemed to care (yes, he knows Jedi don’t take revenge, but the dude broke out of prison, can we try to do SOMETHING to get him under some kind of supervision?), and for whatever reason, he hadn’t been able to do a thing to stop it. He was a mess those few days, and trying to process it all while also trying to do his duty as a Jedi was rough. I don’t think he’s ever really disliked anyone as much as he did Rako over those two days, so, yeah.
As for the ‘relationship’ tag, that’s a bit of a misnomer in this case, since Braig only ever saw the real Rako once, when he shot Obi-Wan, and even that was only for a fleeting moment. It’s sort of a catch-all as both a Deception Arc verse/timeline tag and a way to describe his feelings towards the end of it all. It’s messy, and actually causes a chain reaction of events that leads to Braig getting his scar - but that’s a subject for a different post. Long story short, he didn’t really take the reveal well.
…. And that’s probably enough for now. I just picked some random ones here, for the most part, so sorry there isn’t really a theme between them. If there are any I didn’t touch on that you’re curious about, or any you want more clarification on, or anything like that, please let me know! <3

Were I to have an insane and unrealistic amount of power over at Marvel I’d re-organize the Spider-Man relevant trades. I share the belief that the hurdle to new readers isn’t so much that there is a long history so much as a history spread all over the place. Wanting to read Spider-Man isn’t simple even if you do have the time and patience to read 50 years worth of comics. You need to know WHICH comics and WHAT ORDER to read them in. And the latter has a multiple choice answer!
This is part of why USM was so strong in it’s early days. 1 title, no satellites, no spin-offs. All you needed to do was pick up issue #1 or trade volume 1 and read sequentially from there. Not just easy to follow but easy to catch up and thus allow readership to grow.
Thus I propose that we simply organize the Spider-Man brand into a series of sequential trades. Functionally these will be like the Deadpool Classic trades, but with multiple trades following the various characters of the Spider-Verse. Want to read just about Peter Parker, you pick up his trades. But want to read just about Miles or Venom? The trades will have you covered going across their respective histories in the in-universe reading order.
In other words you need not worry about whether story arc A in ASM happens before story arc B in Spec and where Guest appearance C fits in. The trades would sort it all out for you. You’d just pick up any volume and read cover to cover, with tiny subplot pages and text inserted where relevant to clarify things. E.g. if there were 2 three part stories happening at the same time, you don’t want to interrupt that, so you’d just print one then have some text saying ‘the following three issues take place during the events of the ASM #X-Z’.
Additionally, in order to not make things unnecessarily confusing I’d omit retroactive stories like Untold Tales of Spider-Man, Symbiote Spider-Man, etc from these trades. My rationale is that not only would these spoil certain things but more significantly as time goes by people will inevitably write more retroactive stories meaning the trades would need to be constantly amended.
Instead I’d simply make a ‘Companion’ trade series reprinting such stories in publication order with a few notes explaining where they take place relative to the original issues. E.g. you’d pick up ‘Peter Parker: Spider-Man Classic Companion Volume 1’ and before you read Untold Tales of Spider-Man #1 a note would inform you it happens after ASM #3 or whatever.
So what would these trade series be exactly?
Something like this:
1.       Peter Parker: Spider-Man Classic: Simply every Peter Parker appearance or relevant comic book. ASM, Spec, New Avengers, Secret Wars, guest appearances, everything!
2.       Mary Jane Classic: Same thing for Mary Jane, albeit to save some time we could simply reprint the MJ relevant pages from various comics as there would be little need to reprint a whole Spidey adventure she just cameos in. The info text could simply give you context for each appearance before we got to meatier stories. I’d employ this method for all of the following whenever relevant.
3.       Black Cat Classic: Obviously this would include her solo minis but also and team appearances like in Heroes for Hire.
4.       Daily Bugle Classic: It occurred to me there were several stories focussing upon a lot of the supporting cast that didn’t feature Spider-Man himself. That aside people love the supporting cast so I figured some trades chronicling their exploits would make sense. For this trade series it’d focus upon J. Jonah Jameson first and foremost but also Betty Brant, Joe Robertson, Ben Urich, etc
5.       The Many Loves of Spider-Man Classic: Same idea but with the Spidey girlfriends who don’t have that many appearances to their name. The main focus would be Gwen Stacy because for good or ill she’s a character who people are interested in. But you could also throw in appearances from Deb Whitman, Carlie, etc.
6.       Spider-Man’s Tangled Web: TBH I couldn’t figure out a good name for this one, but essentially this would be about Peter’s friends who aren’t superheroes, Bugle employees or girlfriends of his. This would include Flash Thompson (pre-Venom), Liz Allan, Randy Robertson, possibly Glory Grant although she’d also fit in with the Bugle trades I guess. Throw in the Tangled web issues and your good to go!
7.       Clone Classic: As you might expect this would chronicles Ben Reilly and Kaine’s exploits, but also for good measure ALL the clearly clone related stories. So we’re talking appearances involving Miles Warren and Gwen’s clone too. Although I guess the latter could fit in ‘the Many Loves of Spider-Man’ trades.
8.       Spider-Man’s Amazing Friends Classic: All of the superhero friends Spider-Man has who are closely associated with him and have had off and on titles over the years. Prowler, Silver Sable, Rocket Racer, Sandman (when he reformed), Jackpot, Alpha, Will O’ Wisp, etc
9.       Goblins Classic: I thought of doing a trade purely about the Osborns but this seemed more logical. It’d cover every appearance of the Goblin related characters. We’re talking Norman Osborn, Harry Osborn, Bart Hamilton, Roderick Kingsley, Ned Leeds, Jason Macendale, Phil Urich, Green Goblin V, Hobgoblin from Bendis’ Secret War, Gabriel+Sarah Stacy, Lily Hollister and whoever else will become a Goblin
10.   Doctor Octopus Classic: Speaks for itself, and yeah it’d include his clones from Superior onwards too.
11.   Symbiotes Classic: I thought of having this be about all the symbiotes OTHER than Venom and Carnage but having 3 sets of trades for symbiotes seemed ridiculous. This would cover every symbiote (Venom, Carnage, Hybrid, Scream, Toxin, Mania, Sleeper, etc) along with major hosts of theirs. Eddie Brock, Cletus Kasady, Mac Gargan, Flash Thompson, Andi Benton, etc
12.   Sinister Six Classic. Maybe you couldn’t call these guys A-listers strictly speaking but these would be the real famous Spider-Man villains who haen’t already been mentioned. We’re talking the Vultures, Electros, Kravens, Mysterios, Chameleon, all the really classic costumed Spidey bad guys you could think of with the exception of some of the folks I’m gonna name below
13.   The Many Foes of Spider-Man Classic: This would chiefly chronicle the stories about the characters from Deadly/Lethal/Superior Foes of Spider-Man, most importantly Boomerang, Beetle and Shocker
14.   Spider Women Classic: All the 616 centric Spider Ladies. Jessica Drew, Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, Cindy Moon, Anya Corazon, maybe even throw Madame Web in there for good measure. I think it makes sense to consolidate them together into a trade series as their publication histories meant they were usually passing the baton onto one another.
15.   Miles Morales: Spider-Man Classic: Guess who this is about. Obviously this would include his appearances in Champions, Avengers, etc
16.   Gwen Stacy: Ghost Spider Classic: Every Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider/Earh-65 Gwen appearanceD
17.   Spider-Ham Classic: You get the picture. Although I’d also add in versions of Spider-Ham that are from different Earths as well
18.   Spider-Man 2099 Classic: We’re actually already doing these in real life, but I’d want them to include every version of Miguel too and brief appearances across other titles
19.   Ultimate Spider-Man Classic: Obviously the same deal for Ultimate Peter Parker, but I’d also include Ultimate Jessica Drew as well
20.   Web of Spider-Verse: A trade series that reprints in publication order every other AU Spider-People out there. All the What Ifs, the Earth X stuff, House of M, X-Men: Forever, 1602, Noir, India, Peni Parker, Fairy Tales and of course Web Warriors
21.   Spider-Girl Classic: We’re already doing this one too. Just wish it’d come out faster!
22.   Spider-Man: Japan Classic: ALL the Japanese Spider-Man stories. Every appearance of Supaidaman from Spider-Verse and beyond. Every appearance of Spider-Man J, Mangaverse Spider-Man, Spidey Fake Red and most controversially Spider-Man: The Manga (deffo gonna have to put a mature readers disclaimer on those ones.

The Ruined King, Chapter 10
Tumblr media
Pairing: Felix x Liz
Summary: Hawkeye is once again moving through Gedonelune, and it looks like their aim is on the heart of the Dragonkin Ruins. It looks like we’ll need the help of the three Reciters to solve this mystery!
Previous: Chapter 9
First: Chapter 1
Caesar sighed as we settled down in the train. "Once again, we're coming to a beautiful resort on a mission. Why can't we ever come here for fun?”
"We used to come here all the time when we were younger," Alfonse said. "Klaus and Albert used to chase each other around the pool."
"I know!" Zeus proclaimed. “I'll tell you what, when the summer comes again, I'll take all of you to the resort for fun!" He looked at the three Reciters. "That includes the three of you!"
"Huh? You're inviting us?"
"Of course! You're part of the family now, aren't you?"
“That reminds me, I brought cookies for everyone!" I had made sure to make a lot for the trip. "Here, there's enough for everyone." As I passed out the little bags of cookies, I noticed Willem giving Felix a strange look, nudging him.
"I.. made cookies for the trip as well." Felix took out a small bag. "I asked Willem to help me make them. Someone told me it was a good way to bond."
Zeus didn't even hesitate, immediately holding out his hand. “Let me try!”
"Don't take all of them!" Caesar protested.
“I'd like to try one, Felix.” Felix handed me a cookie, and I took a bite. “This is delicious!”
"Thank you." The others quickly scrambled to take cookies for themselves; there was just enough for everyone. I even noticed Felix take a smaller one and giving it to Shu. "Wow, these are amazing!"
"..Thank you." Even if he didn't say it, I could tell he was happy.
By the time that we arrived at the gates of Veda, it was getting dark outside.
"What brings you here? We don't usually get so many guests at once."
'Will they notice Felix or Willem?' But the guards didn't even spare them a second glance, since they were in their casual outfits.
“We've been asked to investigate the mines of Veda,” Hugo said, handing a note to the guards. Luckily, when we explained the situation to Shezarade, she'd given us permission.
The guard scanned the note and handed it back. “Enjoy your stay."
We brushed past the gates, Felix letting out a sigh of relief.
"It's getting dark out," he said. "We should go to our rooms for now and then reconvene in the.." He stopped in his tracks, his expression turning cold. Willem and Lacan followed his gaze, their expressions growing stern. He stopped, hiding in the shadows of a pillar.
"What's going on..?" I looked over, and a once familiar man chatting with the guards.
"Liz," Felix said, "the last time I saw that man, it was when he sealed me away."
Oh.
'Schmidt.' The Wizard of Old. The last time I had been here, he had helped us. The last time I had been here, Felix had been our enemy. How times had changed since then.
"We should find another around," Willem said; Felix quickly pulled me away.
'I hope this doesn't cause any trouble..'
When I left the room that night, I found Felix waiting, gazing up at the sky.
"Couldn't sleep?"
I shook my head. "I thought I'd go for a stroll along the water.” My mind had been running wild with thoughts of how the visit would go. “Care to join me?"
As we walked, the water seemed to glow in the moonlight. And I heard familiar laughter ringing  from the direction of the pools.
Walking over, we saw Willem and Lacan splashing in the pools together, Willem kicking water at Lacan.
"Ah, this feels so refreshing!" Lacan said. "Doesn't it remind you of the springs in the castle?"
"Huh? I don't think we ever saw those," I said as I came over.
"There was a lot more to the castle than what you saw," Felix said, taking a seat on the edge of the pool. "I think that you would have liked them. There were all sorts of magical creatures that would swim in the water with us.”
I couldn't help but laugh. "That sounds like so much fun!"
"At least until Willem would come along and drag us from the water," Lacan said with a laugh.
"I wasn't that bad! Besides, you would have stayed in all day and gotten terrible sunburns if I hadn't."
"Light is my element! I would have been fine. Felix, on the other hand.." Felix splashed water in his face for that one.
"Maybe someday, we can.." Felix had a wistful look on his face, but it disappeared as quickly as it came. He shook his head.
I wanted to ask, but I had a feel this was something he'd tell me when he was ready. So for now, I sat next to him, dipping my feet in the water. “You said there were lots of magical creatures in the waters?” He nodded. “Will you tell me about them?”
It felt like we talked for hours. But, when I got back to my room, I saw a familiar face waiting outside my door.
"Schmidt! What are you doing here?"
His smile was sugary sweet. "I wanted to come by and pay a visit, when I heard you were staying here. But when I saw you with that man.." His eyes darkened. "I never thought I'd see the day Felix would turn your heart."
"Schmidt," I raised my chin as I faced him, "is it true that you were the one who sealed them away?" I remembered he had said something about them using his magic.
"My brethren and I did what we had to do," he said smoothly, that sickeningly sweet smile never leaving his lips. "They created terrible monsters, monsters that would have brought this world to ruin if we hadn't stopped them."
"They told me about the war." The words came pouring out of me before I could stop them. "They told me about everything that happened to them, about everything that you took from them..!"
His gaze flickered. "I just want to watch out for you. I'd hate to see you get hurt by them, like they did before."
'Why can't I speak?' There was so much I wanted to say, so much I wanted to scream at him, but the words wouldn't come when I faced him.
"Things are different now," I managed to get out. "Felix and Willem.. They are our friends now. Felix saved my life!"
"A Dragonkin never changes, my dear. But it appears you have.”
He left me alone, but I found that I had a lot to think about that night, wishing that I could find the words to defend the ones I treasured.
We set out early the next morning. But I couldn't shake the strange feeling even as we approached the waterfall that had once served as Felix's base.
'Why do I get the feeling that someone is watching us?'
"This should be the quickest way to the last ruin," Felix said.
"How are we supposed to get through there?" Caesar asked. "Just walk through the water?"
"Well, this is a disappointing sight. To see that so many would fall to the Dragonkin.." My blood ran cold as I heard the familiar voice. I spun around to see Schmidt stepping out of the shadows, followed by people I didn't know.
'Don't tell me..' A chill ran down my spine. 'Are those the other Wizards of Old?'
"You followed us all the way here?!"
“Something needed to be done,” Schmidt said, walking over. Felix, Willem, and Lacan bristled behind me. “I couldn't stand back and let you hurt all these innocent people.”
“I won't let you hurt them!” I screamed, grabbing my wand.
"My dear, why are you still defending them? Are you forgetting about the trouble that they caused here before? You have seen the darkness in their hearts."
"And whose fault was that?!" I roared. "You are the one who took everything from them! That darkness was formed by the pain that you brought to them!"
With every word, I could feel something rising in me; the water churned behind me, lashing at us. I could hear their voices crying out, but all I could see was the man in front of me, the man stepping back in fear.
"This power..!"
"How long did they reach out to you? How long did they  try to help you even when you hurt them? Until you were done, until you left them in the dark to rot! The only one here with a heart of darkness is you!"
Felix grabbed my hand. "We need to go," he said. I turned, and my heart almost stopped at the churning waves. "Let's go!"
"After them!"
We ran into the water- until the voices disappeared beyond the lashing waves.
"What was that?"
I let out a gasping breath as we stepped into the cavern, the raging waves closing behind us.
"The Goddess Crystal must have been resonating with Liz's emotions and affecting the waterfall," Willem said. "It should make it more difficult for Schmidt and his guards to come after us for a while."
Strong arms pulled me against a chest, and I instinctively knew it was Felix. My heart raced in his embrace. "Thank you, Liz, for defending me."
"Of course, I meant every word of it." I felt him press his face against my shoulder.
"Coming from you.."
"I know that your heart has changed. Because now you're.." The words caught in my throat. I couldn't just blurt out how I felt about him. "I.. I don't intend to let Schmidt hurt you. Or any of you." Willem and Lacan gave me grateful looks.
"We're not going to stand by and let them hurt you either!" Zeus roared. The others nodded.
"You're our friends now," Lucious said. "We don't let anyone hurt our friends." The others let out a cheer of agreement.
"Thank you."
Willem stood up a little straighter. "We should keep going," he said firmly. "We still don't know if Hawkeye is in this cave. Or if Schmidt is going to send anyone else after us."
As we stepped through the cavern, we came to the chamber full of water, though the tubes were now empty.
"This place still gives me the creeps.." Zeus muttered, avoiding the tanks of water.
"Everyone, get away from the doors. I'll spread miasma behind us; that ought to throw anyone off our trail for a little while."
We all took a good few steps away from the door, but, even still, my eyes watered at the miasma. 'His power is so strong!'
“There, we should be safe for a while. Now all that's left is to head into the ruin.” Felix snapped his fingers, changing back into his normal clothes; Willem followed suit.
And a thought occurred to me as I studied the cloning tubes. I remembered facing the clones before- so perfect, I couldn't tell which ones were real and which one were fake.
“Felix, you.. made the shadows that went into the clones, didn't you?” I remembered how he had been able to recall them easily.
“I did.”
“Do you think you could recreate those? Does the machine still work?”
Felix hesitantly glanced at them. “I think it should be able to work.” He paused for a moment. “..What are you planning?”
We had no idea how many members of Hawkeye were still out there, if they were following us, or where they may be. They would use tricks and schemes to get past us. But perhaps this would be a way to settle the score.
The others looked at me curiously. "What are you thinking?"
I smiled. "I think.. it's time we played a trick on Hawkeye."
Caesar: Why do I get the feeling that we're going to be the ones who get cloned..
Alfonse: I'm sure that this is going to be fine. Liz has a plan for what to do, doesn't she?
Caesar: I hope so. I mean, I'll do it, if it's what it takes to stop Hawkeye. As long as those clones don't linger around too much.
Alfonse: Let's hope..
Caesar: Next time, Into the Dark.

Not Even That Hard
Summary: When you're the Chosen One it is only natural for things to come easily.
Links: Ao3 and FF.net
Author’s Note: Warnings for use of second person because sometimes a story pops into your head fully-formed and you have enough time to write it down or to convince your brain it should be in third person but not both. Also, warning for the double entendre inherent in this title/the recurring phrase throughout this story; it crossed my mind way too late and I’m not changing it.
Dedicated to Liz/@bpdanakins who has spoken with me about so much Star Wars stuff and who also loves seeing Anakin get to be incredibly overpowered. Here’s a story where Anakin gets to be as overpowered as I could make him at 1:30 AM.
It wouldn’t even be that hard.
When you reflect back years later, that’s the first thing you can remember thinking. The memory is fuzzy and you’re not sure how old you are (4? 5?), but you very clearly remember seeing Watto and your mother trying to piece together some broken droid that has been causing him grief for the past hour at least. You can see exactly which pieces are supposed to go where and which wires are crucial and which can be cut and tossed aside. It would only take you a few minutes to have it back together and working better than it had before. You couldn’t explain how you knew that or why it felt so important that you fix this particular droid, but it did. So you got up, singled out the piece that would fit perfectly with the one Watto was currently holding, and went over to your master with the appropriate tool. The droid was fixed in just under 16 minutes. Watto let you and your mother leave a few minutes early that day and she treated you to a ruby bliel. You didn’t know that your mechanical skills would make you valuable to Watto for years to come or that fixing that droid had saved you from being sold off and separated from your mother. All you knew then and ever would, is that fixing droids wasn’t even that hard.
****************************************************************************************************
“It wouldn’t even be that hard.”
After all, podracing was just flying but faster and the couple of times your mother had let you pilot Watto’s speeder had gone without a single crash. Surely podracing would come just as easily as those short trips around Mos Espa had been. After declaring that surely you could win a podrace, you could tell from your mother’s face you had said something wrong and from Watto’s that you had said something incredibly right. Your heart clenched for a moment because surely nothing good was coming when Mom made that face (admittedly, it would be better than what followed Watto’s disapproving face), but then the winning pod came around the final bend and crossed the finish line and your heart soared and you were filled with the certainty that podracing would not be that hard at all.
****************************************************************************************************
It wouldn’t even have been that hard if it weren’t for the blasted autopilot, you thought as you hopped out of the yellow cockpit, ready to celebrate with the other overjoyed, if confused, Naboo pilots. Surely the professional pilots would have figured it out sooner or later. After all, you are only 9, almost 10, and had never been in one of those ships before and you had pulled it off. It would be crazy if they hadn’t been able to do it. But then you see Obi-Wan and he looks sad and Qui-Gon is nowhere to be found and something in you screams that now isn’t the time to say how not hard blowing up the Trade Federation’s ship had been.
****************************************************************************************************
“It wouldn’t even be that hard, Obi-Wan. Why don’t they just speed up?” Obi-Wan gives you a mixture of a confused and reproachful look, one you know means that he will have follow-up questions for you once you are out of earshot of the other padawans and their masters but that until then you need to stop saying such rude things.
Just as you had expected, the second you and Obi-Wan round the corner and can no longer see or be seen by the older padawans, Obi-Wan asks, “What do you mean, Padawan?”
“Well, their masters are telling them to double the speed of their lightsaber drills, but all of them start making easy mistakes once they speed up. Why are they making the mistakes? It’s easy to do those forms.” You don’t mean to sound prideful (Obi-Wan always reminds you that pride is not the Jedi way and you’re really trying to be a good Jedi), but you’ve sped up your own drills to four times the speed they were taught to you and you’ve managed to avoid making the same obvious mistakes that those much older padawans are making. Why couldn’t those beings just… not mess up?
Obi-Wan seems even more confused now that you’ve tried to explain your previous comment, but that doesn’t stop him from starting in on a lecture about pride and patience and how mastery takes time. You ignore most of it in favor of slowly moving back into a position where you can watch the padawans who keep making mistakes even though you know deep within your heart that surely it isn’t that hard.
****************************************************************************************************
This isn’t that hard, you think as you look around you at the ship that is hurtling towards the planet below you. You’ve flown plenty of ships and been in quite a few crashes and keeping this particular ship from crashing should not be that difficult, even if it is more or less falling apart with each passing second. You look to your unconscious master in the seat next to you and the scared orphans behind you and then to the controls in front of you and despite the despair that you feel within the Force, you find that all you feel is confidence. This ship may be about to crash, but stopping it from doing so won’t be that hard.
****************************************************************************************************
This is incredibly hard, you think as you try and try and try and keep trying to not kiss Senator Padmé Amidala. This is so incredibly hard.
****************************************************************************************************
This won’t even be that hard. This won’t even be that hard. This won’t even be that hard. Your inner mantra as you lead your own legion into battle is at odds with everything else around you. Inside you know that you can easily weather the battle that is about to ensue, but you are equally certain that some of your men, perhaps many of them, will not. Christophsis is shaping up to not be an easy planet to take and the Force is practically screaming at you to prepare yourself for something big when Cody runs up beside you and points out the droids rounding the corner, ready for another round of battle. “They’re back!”, you call out to your master, already preparing to make a snarky comment about how you hadn’t wanted to send the ship back for supplies, all the while keeping up your refrain of ‘this won’t even be that hard’s in your head.
****************************************************************************************************
“It won’t even be that hard, Snips. I promise.” You don’t have to turn around to see Ahsoka to know that she is shooting you her patented annoyed look that has become so characteristic of her despite how little time you two have spent together so far. You know that Balmorra Run is supposedly one of the more difficult runs a pilot can attempt, what with the Neebray mantas and all, but you’re Anakin Skywalker and surely it won’t be that hard. After all, you’ve never met a pilot who wasn’t at least passingly familiar with over exaggerating their flying prowess and you’re a Jedi Knight and have the Force to guide you and your men through. Surely it won’t be that hard.
****************************************************************************************************
You thought ending the war would have been so much harder than it is turning out to be. Of course the operation on the Invisible Hand hasn’t been without its issues and you know killing Dooku was not the Jedi way, but if his death was necessary to bring about an end to the war, it will have been worth it. But even your concerns about Dooku are drowned out by the confidence that is coursing through your veins just as surely as your blood does as you, Obi-Wan, and Palpatine race back towards your rendevouz with Artoo. Soon the four of you will be together and will be able to defeat Grievous, get off this ship, and end the Clone War. Your final thought before you are trapped within ray shields is this: Turns out it’s not even that hard to end a war.
****************************************************************************************************
It wouldn’t even be that hard.
You know exactly where and how you would strike to stop the lightning leaving Palpatine’s fingers and electrocuting Windu. You can think of half a dozen ways that would incapacitate, but not kill, your mentor and exponentially more that would rid the galaxy of the Sith once and for all. In terms of technical skill, stopping Darth Sidious would be easy. But your emotions are in control now, not your 13 years of lightsaber training, not the moral compass your mother instilled in you, not the countless hours you have spent in strategy meetings. In this moment it is the love you feel for your wife and your unborn child that is in control and that makes you pause and realize that it would actually be the hardest thing you have ever done to stop Darth Sidious from killing Jedi Master Mace Windu. (So you don’t. You choose to take the easy way out instead.)
****************************************************************************************************
It wouldn’t even be that hard, you think as you realize exactly what shot the rebel pilot is trying to make to blow up the Death Star. When he manages to make it, you scoff because you could have done it from double the distance with triple the number of enemy fighters on you on a bad day.
****************************************************************************************************
It won’t even be that hard, you think as you consider how you will get your son to join you to overpower Sidious. After all, he is your blood and there is nothing more important than family. Luke Skywalker will surely see that.
****************************************************************************************************
It won’t even be that hard, you try to reassure yourself as you prepare to face your son for the first time since Bespin. You have imagined how you will meet him again countless times over the past year but somehow none of them included Luke turning himself in. It won’t even be that hard. It won’t even be that hard. It won’t even be that hard.
****************************************************************************************************
It won’t be that hard, you think as you watch your master and abuser electrify your son while he pleads for your help. It has been many years since you last performed a kind, selfless act and you think that perhaps kindness is like a muscle that can atrophy, but as you move forward and throw your master off of your son whom you are just now realizing you loved more than you have ever loved anything else before, you find that the part of Anakin Skywalker that was selfless has not died, but instead been hidden away and kept safe for the moment it would be needed again. Thankfully, sacrificing yourself is nowhere near as hard as living as Darth Vader ever was.
****************************************************************************************************
Joining with the Force is the least hard thing you have ever done and following Obi-Wan’s guidance for how to join him and Yoda on Endor to look over the Rebel celebration is only slightly more difficult. After years and years of each living moment being torture, this comes with an eery ease. Hmm.., you think wryly as you survey your two ghostly companions and those surrounding your children as they celebrate their victory, in the end balancing the Force wasn’t even that hard.
****************************************************************************************************
Author’s Note: I can thank this story for being the reason that I learned ‘Nubian’ did not mean ‘from Naboo’ but is actually a reference to a completely different planet/system and it’s just a coincidence that people from Naboo fly Nubian ships and the two actually have nothing to do with each other. I now have to live with the fact that I’ve been assuming anything from Naboo was Nubian for over a decade, so that’s fun.
The bit about the Balmorra Run is from TCW 1x03.
But seriously, when was someone going to tell me that Jar Jar wasn’t wrong when he referred to the people from Naboo as ‘the Naboo’?

misc verse aesthetics + write ups : star wars.
caroline forbes was the daughter of william forbes, a well known advocate for the empire’s leadership and elizabeth forbes, a rumored sympathizer of the rebellion. for years, she remained unaware of the brewing conflict in the galaxy. blissfully unaware of the deaths and sacrifices that those gave for the chance at freedom. it wasn’t until she was sixteen that her mother took her away, whisking her away in an unmarked and untraceable ship in the middle of the night with a small cell of rebels within the walls of the imperial city she’d called home for her whole life.
her mother took them to a desolate planet, someplace as beautiful as it was hidden. her mother was a well of knowledge, being at the side of a semi-prominent imperial advocate for the majority of her life. it wasn’t until she realized this that caroline fully realized the weight of the rebellion, and the risk that her mother was undertaking every time they left their small haven.
alternate verse(s) ,  prequel compliant.
handmaiden ,    caroline is one of the naboo royal handmaidens for queen amidala. most of the above background information will likely still apply  ( liz will be allied with the rebellion, bill will side with the empire ).
prequel timeline shift ,     everything stays the same, albeit caroline is born earlier and is in her 20s during the events of the clone wars, helping her mother with the rebellion after they flee bill towards the beginning of the war.
sequel timeline shift ,     everything stays the same, albeit caroline is born later and is in her 20s during the time that the force awakens take place, liz likely fled later in the war and died in the early mandalorian timeline.
timeline ,  by film .
the clone wars / revenge of the sith ,     caroline is born near the beginning of the clone wars, to bill -- a republic senator -- and liz forbes. as the war wages on and the republic starts to fracture, bill’s loyalty turns towards the budding empire, and liz’s towards the rising resistance.
rogue one ,     shortly before the events of rogue one, liz has cemented her status with the rebellion and escapes from bill / the republic, taking shelter on a rebel base on another planet. at this point ,  caroline is a teenager, starting to learn more about the rebellion and discovering her place within it. following / surrounding the events of rogue one, she volunteers to help with research and planning, utilizing her existing knowledge of her father’s work / connections to help aid where she can .
a new hope ,     following the explosion of the death star, bill places a bounty on caroline and liz’s head, calling for caroline to be brought in alive, and liz to be brought in alive for questioning due to their ties to the rebellin.
the empire strikes back ,     early 20s,  learning from her mother and the other rebels and helping out where she can. liz is killed in combat, leaving caroline to grieve and attempt to find her own place within the rebellion.
the return of the jedi ,     still reeling from her mother’s death, caroline attempts to help the rebels where she can, although at some point the danger that her connection to her father poses is too great and she decides to go into hiding.
the mandalorian ,     mid 20s / early 30s ,  although the worst of the war might be over, some things still stick with caroline, namely the hefty price on her head that didn’t quite disapper when the empire did. she’s on the run for a few years, trying to make herself scarce, terrified of being found, but at some point she catches word that her father has died.
potential arcs ,
capture ,     she is picked up by a bounty hunter and brought back to bill ( alive )  and he tortures her for information about the rebellion.
additional notes.
purposefully set to be vague, and to easily fit within whichever stage of the star wars universe your muse / other muses are set in.
liz dies in battle when caroline is in her mid-20′s and it’s a loss she never quite recovers from.
bill is likely still alive, and working with the republic / imperial forces to defeat the rebel alliance. after caroline escapes from him that first time, he places a sizable bounty on her ( and liz’s ) head, one that would *winkwink* definitely be of interest to bounty hunters. the payout is for her being returned to him alive, and the price on liz’s head is worth more alive than dead, but he cares much less about her life than caroline’s.
though she didn’t spend much time with her father growing up, she does know a considerable amount about the innerworkings of the republic and how deep their network goes. and what she doesn’t remember, her mom passes on to her.
weapon of choice would be a blaster, but she doesn’t necessarily like using that much. she has very little fighting technique, and she mostly relies on wits and looks ( and people’s tendency to underestimate her ) to get her out of sticky situations.
will do whatever she can to be useful to the rebellion/resistance. most of her skills are in researching, gaining information, and acting as distraction for others to carry out their missions. while she’s probably never directly involved in major conflicts, she’ll make herself useful on lower risk missions to gain information and allies.

MEET Rori LuAnne* Dearing.   ( Altered Carbon based original character. )
*Please note.  Any use of her middle name in character will result in her losing her shit because who the fuck names their child LuAnne in the 25th century it’s so 400 years ago….
First things first, OOC, yes, this is the same face claim as I use for Saori; it’s intentional / for plot purposes w/ certain characters where that holy shit it’s like looking at a ghost trope is lots of fun so…  Also, I think it’s particularly interesting in a world where bodies can be custom made and DNA is literally just a playground for scientists for there to be this freak natural repetition / recreation after 250 years.  It is something that family members remark on from time to time, but it’s not something that a lot of them really pay that much attention to, it’s the oh you look so much like so and so, but since none of the living family members even met Saori they don’t realize just how identical the resemblance is.  And most people that meet her wouldn’t know enough about her history / lineage to know though so.  She’s just a pretty, long-legged, pierced and tattooed cutie pie.    [ Any of those rare survivors from Envoy era that were at Stronghold or on Harlan’s World, or any that might have VR’ed in to a conference or something w/ Saori are totally free / encouraged to notice and react of course !!! ]
Yes, Rori is the great-great-great …. whatever many great-granddaughter of my other / latest original character, SAORI DEARING, an uprising sympathizer who lived on Harlan’s World during the Envoy war / during the time of the destruction of Stronghold.  [ the battle of stronghold is widely known as the battle where the Protectorate finally defeated the evil Envoys, murderers of children and women and whole families, terrorists who used sabotage, infiltration, mass murder, torture, bombings, wide spread terror attacks, etc. etc. etc. to try and overthrow the protectorate who wanted to do nothing more than keep the peace in known space etc. ] Rori and her older sister, CLAIRE DEARING, currently know nothing about their ancestor’s involvement with / support of the Uprising – which is probably for the best because Claire would probably die of mortification and Rori would loudly and proudly blast the news from the rooftops.
Claire, written by Liz @magicandsciencemuses, is a (mostly) upstanding citizen who works earnestly to better her way of life and has a great amount of respect for the law and a more than healthy respect / knowledge of what the Meths are capable of; she is one of the directors of the Bay City branch of Psychasec as well as being a well renowned scientist in the field of genetics and body mods, cloning, synth, etc. etc.  She is very much the model child, works hard, works long hours, pays her taxes, follows the rules, tries very hard to keep out of trouble and avoid drama.    ADDITIONAL NOTE:  CLAIRE IS 200+ YEARS OLD.  Rori is in her forties (even though she appears in her early twenties) – in Meth years, Rori is practically a BABY.
Rori, on the other hand, is pretty much the exact opposite.  While she is also intelligent and well educated, she was the wild child from the get go and was always the one that came home with the scraped knees and the bloody noses and the torn clothes, whether it was from actually just falling the frack over her own feet or getting into a fight with someone twice her size in defense of someone else or because they offended her with some smart ass / ill thought out comment that provoked her short-fused (but typically short-lived) temper.  She was almost always involved in some form of protests, some form of protect the planet, protect the species, protect the people, protect the sleeves movement, and became more and more focused on protecting the equality (or what is left of it) as she got ‘older’.
She believes that a lot of what is acceptable and norm when it comes to the treatment of sleeves when it comes to the prison system and victim restitution as a whole is beyond fucked up   She believes that the whole essence of the prison system, stacks in storage, etc. is a huge step backwards and one that just does no good to anyone except those profiting financially from the system.  Ripping someone out of their sleeve and sticking them into storage seems entirely opposite of helpful to her.  There is no longer any opportunity for reform in the penal system.  Being on ice doesn’t give you time to think.  It doesn’t give you time to reflect on your life choices and realize what you’re missing.  It doesn’t give you time for soul searching or to learn methods in which to cope, it doesn’t allow you to better yourself in any way – literally the only thing that it does it rip you out of one time and then toss you back out into the world in what was just a blink of an eye to you.  Nothing changes.  Worst case scenario, you’re in a stranger’s body, a hundred years later, maybe you’ve got a family member or someone that was told about you enough to show up and give you a place to crash for a few days while you get your shit sorted but.
Now you’re a stranger, with no working knowledge of the world, the politics or laws that have changed, the events in history that might have been world shatteringly important that you missed, no relevant job history, no contacts, no resources, and depending on what field of study or what kind of job you had, you might be entirely irrelevant plus - you’re a convict so what does that do for your likelihood of finding gainful employment - especially while in whatever broken down sleeve they give you on release ???  It pretty much guarantees the only life the newly released have to go back to is – crime.
And that’s not even getting onto the topic of renting out people’s bodies and how that just feels inherently wrong to her – they don’t even bother to try and use it as a deterrent tactics, it’s just a WAY OF LIFE and it just seems cruel and unusual to her.  There have always been accrued costs of prison, one way or another, sticking a body on ice / suspending it / cryogenic storage or whatever is WAY cheaper than actually housing criminals used to be.  And how easy is it for someone that’s corrupt to play that system ???? Want a particular sleeve for yourself or your partner but they won’t sleep with you?  Get them convicted and rent it for a week.  Have a Neo-C that you need out of the way at your job or that’s married to someone you want to pursue or that you have a grudge against and want to see them suffer / their family suffer?  Set them up for even the smallest crime, because once they’re yanked out of their sleeve that’s it, bye-bye.
And it’s not just punishing the criminals! Seeing someone else walking and talking in the sleeve of your lover, your brother, your mother, your best friend and knowing it’s not them - it doesn’t matter how tough you are or act like you are, that hurts – knowing that that body is being used for god knows what and you can’t keep it safe / protect it ???  Knowing that the person’s sleeve is out and about because you couldn’t afford the mortgage payments to keep it hanging out empty until the person’s time was up and they can get put back in it ? That is brutal and cruel and unusual punishment to people that did nothing wrong but care.
So… yeah.  Human rights / sleeves’ rights activist.  Has had the occasional brush with the law in terms of protesting, the occasional riot or act of vandalism, threats against particular organizations or Meths or whomever it is that she’s up in arms against at the time but, generally low level stuff that hasn’t gotten her in a ton of hot water legally speaking.  She actually does have a semi decent relationship with some of the beat cops or a detective here or there, she’s happy to turn over intel and information she finds about acts of actual violence or terrorism that she catches wind of and is especially happy to turn over anything she hears that deals with corrupt cops, politicians, Meths influence on anything with policy or wrangling positions of power for their chess pieces in law enforcement or political circles etc.
She does dabble in some drug use, she drinks, she smokes, she swears, she sleeps around, she has tattoo and piercings that fluctuate a lot - she is still in her birth sleeve (though second clone after an airtram derailment a few years back).  She gambles, she shoots pool, she gets into the occasional fist fight, she has no problem calling anyone out on their bullshit but – she has a good heart and does her best to help out people in trouble around her whenever she can.  She drifts through a lot of circles; she has friends in all manner of walks of life in the underworld and legit circles, she makes it pretty clear she doesn’t have any interest in being involved in drama outside of her choosing and tends to usually manage to keep from pissing off the wrong people (she’s way more likely to have enemies among the politicians, the Meths, the policy makers than get caught up in a turf war etc).
She has a loft apartment in Licktown, but she also has four or five other roommates and it’s very crowded and busy so she tends to prefer to crash at her hookup’s place when an option and also makes a semi regular habit of showing up at Claire’s in the middle of the night and crashing on her couch for a few days.  Despite their glaring differences, the sisters are actually pretty close and as much as they rib on each other, they would not hesitate to come to the defense of the other if necessary, in a heartbeat.
Rori does come from a family of Meths.  Her lifestyle choices, her behaviour, the fact she lives on the Ground and in Licktown are all huge sources of embarrassment for the majority of her family.  The only reason she isn’t actually just cut loose and written off as the black sheep of the family is because Claire wouldn’t stand for it.  Rori does have access to a large stipend, which she does live off of at times but in general she prefers to make her own way - she works as a bartender, a tattoo artist, odd jobs here and there.  Whatever she doesn’t use of her monthly allowance, though, she does pull out every month and donate to a number of different activist groups, shelters, etc. - wherever needs it the most at that time.

self notes for CloneWars series1 (part2; eps 12 to end)
s1ep12 The Gungan General (p2) . having been drugged despite, obiwan and anakin wake up together tied in a cell not only to each other but also Count Dooku. obiwan pushes anikin back from being annoyed at dooku “It’s bad enough we have to be in the same cell, but could you spare me the sound of your constant chatter” - “and while i hold my tongue, the two of you will devise a briliant strategy for getting off this godforsaken planet?” - “YES!” at the same time . bound odd trio try to escape with many many banter between the jedis that make dooku want to kill them all over again - “Do control your protege’s insolence so I can concentrate” d “Anakin.” “WHAT” “Control your innocence. The count is concentrating” the sarcasm. the smirk he gets in return. - -crawling thorugh the halls- “We... do... know where we’re going, don’t we?” a “Hush, Anakin.” -immediately, to dooku- “DO we know where we’re going?” . caught and back in the same cell, hondo talks to them exasperately abt breaking out. This time, obiwan mind tricks their guard and they leave again. more banter. - “You should be more patient, Master. After all, the Count is an elderly gentleman, and doesn’t move like he used to” the sarcasm is dripping “I suppose you’re right” padawan sets up the shots and master fucking dunks on the sith, as it’s said apparently dooku is not impressed. “I would kill you both right now if I did not have to drag your bodies.” and he gets a double jedi glare . escaping, anakin tries to pull them up the wall but with added weight and hondo apppearing, they are taken again. In the cell, anakin and obiwan are taken to be suspended in the pirate bar together. obiwan tries to get anakin to shut up as hondo electrocutes them. the power cuts off, they drop, anakin forces his lightsaber finally, immediately cuts obiwans and his cuffs, and holds hondo at saberpoint with obiwan and his weapon beside them. They back out like this. obiwan has anakin release hondo and they leave on neutral terms, ship flying away.
s1ep13 Jedi Crash
. anakin, ahsoka, clones, go to master aayla’s ship that is being shot at. fighting and escaping, there is an explosion behind them, with anakin at the rear he forces the rest of the through the last door and tries to hold back the explosion, but it is quickly too much and throws him back. Ahsoka quickly manages to carve open the door to drag Anakin through by his arm, aayla helps her and they are on their ship ready to leave the exploding one, but anakin unconscious. . with anakin in the medbay and ahsoka watching him, ship is hit and aayla pulls ahsoka away to help to get out of there. Cutting power, they manage to escape and crash land on a planet. aayla and ahsoka drag anakin out and the ship explodes. They set up camp for anakin and leave him with Rex to guard while clones, ahsoka, aayla head off to find help. . Anakin manages to wake briefly to warn Rex of a creature attacking before collapsing, but after just a bit, has rex help him up to defend. But immediately being thrown leaves him on the ground. Having found help, ahsoka and healer appear just in time to help defend before Rex and Ahsoka rush to Anakin who weakly greets Snips. They carry him on a stretcher to the village they found earlier, where the healer can help anikan.
s1ep14 Defenders of Peace (p2) . better but still badly hurt, anakin and team must leave secretly as a seperatist ship touches down. helped by the clones, anakin and team manage to get into tall grass and stop for him to rest before they go to stop a spying droid. Still hurting, Anakin catches up to them on a tree as they look at the ship they need to steal. “I hope you’re feeling better, Master, because look what we found.” “Heh, I’m getting stronger all the time, Snips. But I’m not sure I’m ready for that..” . Pulling the clones out of an explosion on the ground, the gang then leave their tree to stealthily attack and disable the ship base, ahsoka and aayla with anakin and clones as teams. taking the ship, they land back at the village to warn and help them fight. with shields protecting the village, jedi and clones advance with weapons. anakin goes to take out the cannon. village safe, the jedi and clones depart.
s1ep15 Tresspass . Anakin and Obiwan are on a snow planet with rex and clones and blue character nice voice and another senator who sucks. R2 and c3po tag along too. Wrapped up in winter gear, they explore and find a peaceful alien people. They promise peace but the stupid senator intiates a battle, he dies in it, and they leave satisfied. . there is some banter and glances when anakin and obiwan go off alone: “Well? Say something.” a “Just shut up” o
s1ep16 The Hidden Enemy . Anakin and Obi-Wan in seperate towers ready to ambush with their respective clones. ObiWan’s tower is attacked so Anakin jumps out the window and zipwires over with his gang to help.  “How did you get over here?” o “I improvised.” a . evac from the roof they retreat to ship, generals talk to their commanders. Rex and Cody work together on the ship with r2 to find a clone traitor while their generals speed to the enemy headquarters together. They end up fighting Ventress. she forces some books at them that they return lol “Which means this is a trap.” a “I imagine it is.” o “Well that’s unfortunate. For THEM.” the smirk  . Ventress puts them a floor below then lures them outside where they fight on a huge unstable droid before jumping down and escaping on droid transport things and getting back to the ship to find their captains found the clone traitor and dela w him before advising there is an army coming “What’s the PLAN, Master?” said through gritted teeth impatiently but still waiting for ObiWan’s idea to get Ventress
s1ep17 Blue Shadow Virus . on Naboo Padme and others learn of a virus lab. she and jarjar head out to find it and are caught their by the mad dr who made the virus. On the ship, Anakin ObiWan and Ahsoka land to talk to BailOrgana(?), anakin sends Ahsoka off to find Padme while he and obiwan talk w bail and make a plan, then wait for Ahsoka to return. “You seem a bit on edge.” o “There’s a good chance we’re about to destroy all life on this planet including ours and the senators, so yes, I’m a bit on edge, why aren’t you?!” a “I’m better at hiding it.” no one is an adult here they’re all just pretending . Anakin with a word of warning from obiwan the two seperate and jump to the lab w clones after ahsoka, everyone engaging in fights. While Anakin finds padme held by the dr, Obiwan joins Ahsoka before splitting off to the bomb room and calling anakin to check in. Anakin runs into Ahsoka before they split again and calls obiwan for backup so they both face the dr as he tries to escape, stopping him from dropping vials. Anakin corners him, below the bombs are deactivated, and the top team contact the bottom team to confirm. “Anakin. I’m guessing you didn’t capture the doctor.” “I’m working on it! Do you have the bombs?” “I’M working on.” there’s literally so much to do and youre still bickering
s1ep18 Mystery of a Thousand Moons (p2) . While obiwan and Anakin above make to leave w the dr, below the virus is leaked. Anakin contacts Ahsoka and Padme who are seperated in the lab, the two and clones plan to stop the droids getting out. Anakin threatens the dr until Obiwan convinces him that they need to head back to find an antidote. They meet w Bail to talk abt a cure and though Obiwan tries to calm Anakin down ultimately he agrees and they go immediately to find the cure together.  “Padme and Ahsoka will be fine.” reassurance from your master “They will be. If we succeed.” not giving up yet but.. . In the lab, Ahsoka’s team is infected but they join w Padme and jarjar to stop droids escaping with the virus. . Anakin and ObiWan head to find the cure on a planet, theyre greeted by droids that Anakin immediately attacks despite Obiwan’s ‘wait’ and they realise it’s friendly and they talk with the human who repurposed the droids abt the cure. “ Very impressive. You just destroyed seventeen defenseless battle droids without suffering a scratch.” the EYEROLL as obiwan comes up behind him  -another droids falls- “..Eighteen, actually.” anakin pls Also,, it’s the tiny things. The tiny nudge that ObiWan gives Anakin when he’s a bit harsh towards the kid . ObiWan and Anakin climb down a cliff with the suprising aid of a flying creature to find the root at the bottom. Anakin digs up the root with ObiWan watching their new problem of a spiky angry plant, before they both climb back up and out. They are warned they can’t leave, on trying they trigger lasers and have to turn back. They get a call from sick Padme and Ahsoka, leaving Anakin angry to get out while ObiWan tries to calm him down and offer a plan “Slow down, Anakin.” “Slow down? Slow down?! You saw them, Master, they’re dying!” “A great leap forwrad often requires first taking two steps back.” “And sometimes all it requires in the will to jump.” “At least hear me out on this.” and he does, because obiwan asked. . a new plan with the kid’s help, they head out again and make it, immediately heading back to Naboo. Anakin checks on Padme and Ahsoka, praising his padawan before he and obiwan wave the medical ship off “You did a fantastic job today, Snips.” “All thanks to your training, Master.” “Yeah, you’re right. I probably do deserve most of the credit. But not all of it.” “Good thing... I know you don’t mean... everything you say.” bless them
s1ep19 Storm Over Ryloth . Ahsoka is given her first command to take clones on a starfight, with a prep talk from her master. Anakin watches over their attack from the ship, orders her retreat as their main ship is blasted. Having lost most of her ships, Ahsoka sits dejectedly and Anakin reprimands her but also reassures because he knows. “I know you meant well, Snips” [...] “All that means is that I understand what you’re going through.” “But I failed.” “It was a trap, Snips. It wasn’t your fault.” [...] “Take heart little one. That’s the reality of command.” . Anakin update calls Windu and ObiWan and has Rex find Ahsoka who is upset. She joins Anakin who is fixing (her?) fighter and they talk, ahsoka wound so anakin sends her away. After a moment, she rejoins Anakin in the hangar where he is commanding an evacation, having Rex take over he explains to Ahsoka the plan - he splits off alone to crash the ship into the enemy with ahsoka to defend him when he escapes it. Unsure,Ahsoka takes command and brief captains. Anakin sets his ship to crash and escapes in a pod waiting for team to pick him up. “Skyguy we’re approaching your position, stand by for retrieval.” . She commands another fleet out to attack and break the barrier, suceeding just as obiwan and windu’s ship appears reay to land as planned. “I won’t even ask where the rest of Anakin’s fleet is. Or why he’s in an escape pod.” he is so tired of these children but as long as theyre okay its fine “That’s... probably for the best.” like master like padawan, ahsoka
s1ep20 Innocents Of Ryloth . ObiWan and MaceWindu on planet, Obiwan with Cody and clones head to the surface to fight. They are attacked by creatures that Obiwan tames using force into a deadend and jumps out, Cody hands him his lightsaber. s1ep21 - ‘Anakin Sywalker battles the enemies in the skies while Obi-Wan kenobi frees villages’ working together even when apart, i love that intro. In this episode it’s Mace Windu’s adventure time w his clone gang to fight.

Realising something is wrong, Anakin finds and spies on the hall before having to run and defend himself while sneaking around without his lightsaber. He manages to avoid them for a bit and gets through to Palpatine to report (ofc) before taking out one persuer then being cornered and electrocuted to unconsciousness. Dragged to the hall and thrown with the other captors, the enemies set lasers to keep them in and leave. Anakin wakes, Padme gives him back his lightsaber, and he goes through the floor to get them out. “When I finished constructing my lightsaber, ObiWan said to me, ‘Anakin, this weapon is your life.’ This weapon IS my life.” yes he has said thta several times bc you keep losing it, like NOW Also,, “Please, Ani. It’s you.” a “This is how you thank me for rescuing you? Pounce on me from the ceiling?” o “Kind of difficult without a lightsaber...” -obiwan hands it over- “Thanks.” [...] “How come I’m the one getting caught all the time? Doesn’t look good.” a “When you’re a jedi master, you can make the plan.” o “That’s just it, how can I become a jedi master if I’m always getting caught?” a “At least you’re a master... of getting caught.” o . they walk in on count dooku, outside main ship by ahsoka and rex shoot at the ship, anakin and obiwan split up and go after dooku. they join in a ship and go after him outside. “I thought you were following Dooku” “I was. The blocked enterance? The poison gas? Or that gundark behind you” - “Anakin, when I tell you to run, Run.” “Master! You’re alive.” “And where’s your lightsaber?” “It.. got knocked out of my hand.” “By a rock?” “Yeah. By a rock. ..It’s got to be here somewhere.” “THAT is a feeble excuse.” “You know what would be helpful? A little light.” “Certainly.” -lightsaver doesn’t work properly- “Silly thing. It was just working a minute ago.” “You don’t suppose it was... hit by a rock, do you?” he says as he throws a pebble at obiwan . with ahsoka and company, we have DISASTER TRIO ADVENTURES AND BANTER. back on the ship, they fly to pirate planet to get dooku; obiwan and anikan go in alone to talk to Hondo. anakin tries to get his saber which they have but just gets guns pointed at them. they visit a captured dooku and taunt him. they get back on the ship to report before joining the pirates for drinks. which are obviously drugged, so they subtly switch them out for others’ drinks and talk before toasting.

hc + light saber form/combat style
Send me  “HC”  + a word and I’ll write a headcanon about it. || ALWAYS ACCEPTING
God bless you and your crops, Zach, because I have a lot of things to say about this.
To start off with, Braig is capable of using one saber, but he vastly prefers his two, for Jar’Kai. When he was a little tot, he and the other initiates trained with one training saber, so that’s what his initial instruction was in; and, I imagine, he’s been made to learn to fight with just one, in case of injury or loss of weapon. But, his main style is absolutely Jar’Kai. He feels significantly more comfortable with a pair, and it reflects in his movements and fighting style. Since we’ve seen Obidad dual-wielding a few times, most notably in the fight with Vos against Bane, it’s 100% possible that Obi taught Braiggo how to use two, and that’s the canon for this blog. Now, if I remember right, Obi originally practised Form III, but, following Qui’s death, added some Form V into his personal style to develop a bit more of a defence. So, that would mean that the core/base foundation of Braig’s fighting style would likely be a similar mix, only adapted for Jar’Kai. (It’s also worth noting that Braig is Obi’s padawan after Anakin gets knighted, so I imagine Obidad’s got his mixed style well-established, by then.)
A while ago - I think a few months - Liz told me that her Mace considered Braig an eligible candidate for learning Vapaad, and would teach him, if Obi-Wan said it was okay (and since Dad has a very hard time saying no to his kiddo, I can’t imagine him veto’ing this, but I’d have to run it by Rodi for hard-and-fast confirmation) [Update: Rodi says ‘Obi is of the mind that Braig choosing to learn from other Masters can only make him that much more well informed and learned. He supports it 100%.’]. According to Liz, Mace would start teaching Braig Vapaad when Braig was about twelve or thirteen (incidentally, about the same time Braig was padawan’d), which means when Braig left the basic training initiates get, he got some pretty mixed education irt: his saber training. But, he wouldn’t have it any other way. When Mace offered to teach this bean, Braig would have been literally vibrating - he was so excited, but also trying to appear like a ‘proper’ Jedi who was worthy of the offer, so he’d literally be minutely shaking because he’s so excited and hyped up and also honoured? I mean, for one, Mace is offering, of his own free will, to train Braig, and having this be so soon after the emotional disaster that was Braig’s attempts to find a master, feeling that- wanted, for lack of a better word, was a pretty big deal for him. On top of that, he’s learning a form from the person who created it. That’s gotta be a huge honour. Not to mention, People Who Know Vapaad is a pretty exclusive club to be in. You could probably count them all on one hand, and still have fingers left over. I know in the Jedi Path, Anakin complains about how Mace won’t teach him Vapaad, and Ahsoka adds that, quote, ‘Nobody learns Vapaad’. So, the fact that Mace chose him, chose Braig– I’m serious when I say, if Braig hadn’t been taught to keep his emotions in check, and wasn’t worried about Mace changing his mind, Braig probably would’ve started crying. Like, the kid was just completely overwhelmed. But, yes; Braig does, in fact, know Vapaad, in the blog’s ‘main canon’ (as in, it applies to 99% of threads, but, if I were to write with another Mace who didn’t share this headcanon, then Braig’d only know Forms III and V in any real, extensive detail). He would spend the bulk of his Vapaad training (or, at least, the early days) learning Vapaad with one saber, as the form was originally made, and then working on adapting it to work with two lightsabers both on his own time and with Mace’s guidance, and then, once Braig was more comfortable with the form’s movements and applications and all, I imagine lessons would be a mix of training with one and two sabers.
But, that ramble is just there to let you know that Braig’s fighting style would be pretty weird. A nice mix between Soresu (Form III), Shien / Djem So (Form V), and, of course, Vapaad (Form VII). Which shows through most while he’s fighting depends on the day, the situation, who he was working with most recently, and so on and so forth (Though I will also note, that since Vapaad requires a lot of mental focus and Force-use, he’s less likely to employ it if he’s tired or worn-down, especially when he’s younger). When he trains, he usually takes the time (when he can) to practise sets specific to each individual form, and then when he’s doing more free-flow exercises, or just sparring with his friends, he lets himself slide back into his little blend/adapting style, where all three blend together. (I would also like to say that he is quite glad that he practised the individual forms after Order 66, and especially after he takes on an apprentice/apprentices of his own. Being able to switch his fighting style up makes him harder to find when he doesn’t want to be, sure, the came as changing up any MO would, but it’s more than that. He considers the forms, Vapaad especially, an important part of the history of the Jedi, and he’s glad to be able to preserve it and pass it on - though he, like Mace, would be very selective with who would get to learn Vapaad).
As a final note, it’s important for me to add that Braig’s sabers are made to be joined together at one end, making them into a saber-staff (If I remember right, we see a similar mechanism in Asaaj Ventress’ lightsabers, but I could be wrong). The Book of Sith claims that saber-staves are a Sith-exclusive weapon, but Vos writes that he knows at least one Jedi (can’t remember the name) who has a staff, and we know Krell has two - though Braig is loathe to be compared to him for any reason. So, I’m taking all of this to mean that it’s uncommon for a Jedi to use a saber-staff, but it’s not entirely unheard of. So Braig probably had to scrounge around for a saber-staff instructor. It’s not something he uses as often as he does his dual sabers separately, but he is proficient enough to use it in combat. Now, the thing is, you can’t use a saber-staff the way you would use a regular staff. You just can’t. (Also, minor pet peeve, it’s not a ‘bo staff’. ‘Bo’ means ‘staff’. ‘Bo staff’ = ‘staff staff’. Just. Don’t. On behalf of the entire dojo.) But this realisation came to me when I was swinging a guandao around with Sifu Sam and my younger brother. Why the idea of lightsabers and staves came to me during practise with a guandao, which is neither a sword, nor a staff (though it is staff-like), I’ll never know, but it did. See, the thing is, in our kobudo at least, there are a number of forms, including the bo-lengthening exercise and a number of kata, where your hands slide to the bottom-third of the bo, rather than the middle, where your hands would normally be. The bottom third of a saber-staff is the blade. … I don’t need to tell you why that’s a problem. There are also moves where the ends of the staff are braced against your bicep, or come very close to your neck/head/shoulder when you set up for some strikes. I can imagine that’s somewhat disconcerting when the ends of the staff are made of superheated Force-powered plasma. Similarly, in our style of kung fu, when you use a spear, you typically hold it by the bottom-third too; you do the same with a guandao for a few moves (though a bit less frequently), and there are parts where you kick up the ends, or you use your elbow to push the handles into some parts, and basically what I’m saying is if you used a saber-staff like you would a normal polearm you’d probably get sliced up. The weighting would be so weird, too - from my understanding, it’d be focused in the middle, with the metal handles, and the blades might not weigh anything at all? @Lucasfilm give me lightsaber physics please. Aside from that, on the end of this OOC tangent, I’d add that I write Braig’s footwork/movements as mostly what we’ve seen in The Clone Wars, since there’s no way I’d be able to learn how to move like a Jedi (esp. in regards to Vapaad, which, to me, seems to have some of the most distinct movements of any form we see thus far), but there are notes of the martial arts I do in there, too. Namely the kung fu, since that fits him best, in my opinion. But this is long enough, and I could rant about that for long enough to put myself to sleep.
