Shopping trips were fun most of the time. Getting all four of the littles new summer wear and a few toys before it got really hot. Logan keeping a hold Patton who wanted to wander off at everything, and Virgil who clung to his side turning his head around to stare at things wide eyed. Janus had to keep Remus and Roman from trying to fight each other or run off to the toy area.

They passed a summer time display with inflatable backyard pools and water guns and-

"noodles!" Roman yelled grabbing one and smacking Remus' face with it. "On guard!"

Remus sputtered and grabbed another noodle. "Boys no."

But it was too late, both of the twins had slipped away from Janus' out stretched arms and were running off. Roman with a screech of fear as Remus laughed chasing him down. Janus cursed once before running after them, leaving the shopping cart with Logan.

"Well I guess we'll just have to pick out some water toys before they get back." Logan said grabbing the cart and leading Virgil and Patton around to a display of water based toys.

"Balloons?" Patton asked tugging on Logan's sleeve and pointing to a box with water balloons on the front.

"And sprinkler." Virgil sat darting forward and grabbing the balloons and sprinkler from the shelves.

"We have a sprinkler." Logan reminded him.

"Nah we don't! Roman broke it! 'member?" Virgil said.

Logan groaned. How could he forget? Roman had tripped over it and sprained his ankle. He had been laid up for two weeks. Two very long weeks of telling him to stay off his feet. Something he groaned about while big and actively tried to defy while little.

"A new one it is." Logan agreed letting Virgil put the items in the cart.

Patton grabbed one of Logan's hands and hugged it to his chest. An odd act for the the little one to do, then he yawned. "It's about time to check out and head home isn't it?" Patton hummed in agreement.

"We just started on toys!" Virgil protested. "I had to wait for all the clothing first too!"

"M have toys too." Patton muttered remembering to grab his chew necklace to put in his mouth instead of his fingers or sleeves.

"Each pick out two more toys then we'll head out." Logan said wanting to give them a reward for getting through the clothing shopping but not drag these out too long. Patton may be fine now but he was going to get grumpy fast.

Janus was trying to get Remus and Roman to put the pool noodles down and stop darting off. Thankfully he got the help of a store employee to round them up. The employee, Thomas managed to get them to stop after they saw he was an employee.

"Are we in trouble?" Roman asked surrendering the pool noddle to Janus.

"He started it!" Remus yelled pointing at Roman with his foam noodle before Janus took it away as well.

"You aren't in trouble...at least not from me." Thomas said glancing at an out of breath Janus. The twins at least had the since to act remorseful.

Their caregiver took a deep breath. "Today has been long. And more than that boring. I understand that you both wanted to have fun, but you ignored me multiple times AND run off."

"Sorry." Roman said while Remus signed the word, not wanting to verbalize.

"Let's go find the others and then we'll head home." Janus said before thanking Thomas. Janus had a tight hold on Roman and Remus as the walked back.

The twins were disappointed when they found out that Virgil and Patton had already picked out the toys they were allowed to get. But Logan reasoned if they wanted to have picked out toys they wouldn't have run off.

"You'll both be allowed to play with the new toys, just remember to stay close next time if you want a say in what we get." Janus said as he helped strapped them into the van.

Patton was more than happy to get strapped in and his ride along bear pillow was quickly hugged to his chest. Virgil got to show the twins the toys he picked out on the drive home, something that managed to cheer both of them up.

When they got home Remus and Roman bolted inside the second they could. "We need to get them leashes." Janus muttered exasperated.

"Remus would cheer through them." Logan pointed out as if they would ever put the twins on leashes. The twins had problems being restricted and even seatbelts seemed like a death sentence to them on a bad day.

Janus sighed dramatically as he grabbed the bags of clothing to go take the tags off and put them to be washed. "Well, at least it didn't go horribly. Though I did think of a new rule."

Logan raised an eyebrow at him as he picked up a half asleep Patton, Virgil already inside. "Oh?"

"No pool noodles." Janus said in a flat tone making Logan almost laugh.

"Agreed." Logan said unable to keep the smile off his face as he took Patton inside to tuck in for the rest of his nap.

Roman Logan and Patton are demons

Virgil Janus and Remus are angels

Roman and Remus are brothers (ofc)

Roman used to be an angel but he fell and is now a fallen angel

The fall hurt :(

Roman then befriends Logan and Patton (or rather patton befriends him and logan warms up to roman)

Janus is a seraphim, and a pretty high ranking angel

Virgils role as an angel is to “deal with” and kill demons

Virgil and roman used to be good friends in heaven, but after romans fall virgil lost all respect for him and tried moving on from whatever friendship they had because hes a demon now and virgil assumes hes a bad guy

Roman still thinks fondly of his friendship with virgil :)

Remus really misses his brother

Felt like going back to my roots and drew the Sanders Sides! I hope I finally did them justice.

I honestly have no idea what I’d be like today if I never watched this series. To me it acted as a guide on self reflection and gave me the vocabulary to talk about things like anxiety. And it did this in a fun, digestible, memorable way. I think the first video I watched upon release was “Fitting In,” and I remember the hype in the hours leading up to it. So that one will always have a special place in my heart. Also, Sanders Sides was my first fandom, and it made sure I was in a good online community. Even though I don’t think about the series as much now, it still means a lot to me.

Day 9: Bats!

“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Janus whispered just within earshot of Remus as they walked outside, guided by a flashlight. Virgil was just a foot in front of them, taking careful steps as they followed the path Remus had insisted on.

“He’s going to love it, Jan!” Remus whispered back, before pointing the flashlight at the regressor. Virgil stopped walking and turned around, noticing the change.

“Hey! What’s your favorite animal again?” Remus asked. Virgil’s hesitant frown turned into a big smile as he wiggled in delight.

“Spiders!” He answered cheerfully. Janus chuckled at the answer as Remus spluttered, knowing that wasn’t what he was expecting to hear, given the circumstances.

“No, your OTHER favroite animal.” Remus corrected. Virgil rolled his eyes and put his hands on his hips, staring at his caregiver with a face that could only be described as a silent ‘seriously?’

“Duh! Bats! You said we were gonna see bats!” Virgil explained. Remus nodded triumphantly, before pointing the flashlight forward again and gesturing for Virgil to continue. The regressor did so with an eager squeal, setting back on to the path.

“See, he’s going to love it.” Remus insisted. And as cute as that adorable exchange had been, it didn’t really ease Janus’s concerns.

“What if they scare him? He’s fond of his Stellaluna book and his plush bat, appropriately called Batty. But books and toys were different from seeing them in real life.

“Trust meeeeee.” Remus drawled teasingly, but gently took Janus’s hand in his own to actually reassure him. Janus took a deep breath. He did trust Remus. And he trusted that if his little one didn’t get scared, he would know to talk to them about it.

It wasn’t much further into the walk that Remus stopped them abruptly. Virgil ran over to Remus and allowed himself to be enveloped in a hug, before Remus flipped off the flashlight.

“Keep your eyes peeled like potatoes and skin, baby bats.” Remus said, pointing up. Virgil scanned the sky, as did Janus, straining to see what Remus could sense was nearby. And sure enough, black figures began to flap and squeak in the air, illuminated by the moonlight.

“Woah.” Virgil whispered in awe, pointing towards where the bats would flutter across the sky. Remus kept his arms wrapped around Virgil as if he might to try and fly off with them. It was absolutely lovely. Janus marveled at the flying creatures for only a moment, his attention mostly captured by his little family in front of him.

“Isn’t it cool Jan?” Remus asked, turning his head to look over, only to notice Janus staring at them instead of the sky. Janus chuckled fondly at the eye roll he received, before nodding.

“Simply the coolest.”
