def need more ditzy reader with mechanic 141- the only thing that tops my love for military men is blue collar boys <333
make sure to take care of yourself tho lovie!! don’t burn urself out :))
I for sure want to write more of her. Hopefully after this insane week at work I’ll be able to really sit down and crank out some writing. For now I’m battling my way through Ch 3 of Across the Way
But pls enjoy this little not proofread experimental snippet I wrote for ditzy reader
“Look.” Your landlord sighs loudly. Like you’re the one inconveniencing him. “I’ll send someone out.”
“That’s what you said two days ago! And three days before that!” You stomp your foot at no one just to get some of the anger out.
“I’ll get to it when I get to it.”
“Why can’t you-“ The line cuts before you can finish. The jerk hung up on you! What the hell!
You pout, plopping down into your desk chair and sighing. What are you supposed to do? You’re not allowed to call a handyman according to the lease and you don’t have a boyfriend right now. You can’t keep washing pans in the bathroom. It’s gross.
You huff.
“Alright?” Simon asks and you whirl in your chair. How does he walk so quietly?
“Yeah…” You pout harder under his steady gaze, slipping down further into the chair.
“You’re a terrible liar, luv.” His eyes crinkle in corners with a smile.
“Well…” You shrug, twiddling your thumbs in your lap. “My kitchen sink has been broken for a whole week and the landlord won’t do anything about it! I called and called and he just keeps saying he’ll send someone and then doesn’t!” Your voice pitches at the end, real annoyance bleeding through into the edges of your words. You fist your hands in your skirt.
“That’s all?” He raises an eyebrow. “Why didn’t you just ask one of us?”
You blink twice, staring up at him. Your face heats and you look away bashfully - not wanting to admit you didn’t think to ask for their help. Stupid. “I don’t want to be a bother…”
“I’ll come by after work.”
“You don’t have to-“
“I’ll be there.” He nods before marching back into the garage. You just blink after him as he goes.
True to his word, Simon shows up at your door with a massive tool box in hand. Really, he still can’t believe you live in such a shit complex. Price pays you well enough. The locks might as well be paper-mache. Simon lowers his mask before knocking. He trusts you with his face - hell you probably forget it every time you look away - but he also wants you to trust him too. For whatever reason.
You’re staring when you open the door. Big doe eyes looking up at him and blinking slowly. He wonders what goes on behind those blank eyes of yours - if it’s nothing at all or such a chaotic dialogue that you can’t process it enough to pay attention.
All or nothing.
“Gonna let me in, doll?” He asks. You startle, not realizing how intensely you zoned out.
“Oh! Yes!” You jump out of the way, letting him into your small studio apartment. Every time he thinks your shorts can’t get smaller he’s proven wrong.
Simon takes a look around, huffing at the net full of stuffies hanging on the wall. Everything about your home is soft - soft colors, soft fabrics. It smells like vanilla, just like you always do when you come into the shop. His eyes lock briefly on a well-loved sewing machine covered in stickers with a project still under the needle. You must have been working on it before he got here.
Did you mean to leave your bra hanging on the back of that chair right by the kitchen? Lacy and lilac. He’ll have to remember that for some other time. Maybe your birthday.
“Let’s ‘ave a look.” He sighs, knees popping as he crouches in front of the sink. It’s a fucking mess, that’s for sure. At least you figured out how to turn the water off.
“Pipe’s busted.” He says. “I can seal it but it’ll take a sec.”
“Okay.” You murmur.
Simon sighs as he turns onto his back to get a better look. He doesn’t miss the way you stare blatantly at his midsection as his shirt rides up. He might adjust some to expose just a bit more.
You really are the least subtle thing in the planet, aren’t you?
“Can you come hold the light f’me, luv?” He points to the toolbox.
“This one?” You ask, as if it isn’t the only flashlight in the box.
“Yeah.”
“Like this?”
“Yup.” At first he expects you to sit silently so he can concentrate, but he quickly realizes that was far too presumptuous.
“Do you have a girlfriend, Si?” You ask quietly.
He huffs. “No.”
“Oh.” You chew your lip. “You seem like the kind of guy that would.”
Simon has never heard a bigger misread in his damn life but he’ll take it as a compliment, he supposes. “Why do you ask?”
“Cause this is boyfriend work and you’re good at it.”
Simon tries to see your logic - he really does - but he just has no clue how those things are even remotely related. Sure, guys fix things for their girlfriends but calling it ‘boyfriend work’ when anybody with two cents could do it is a bit silly. More than, if he’s honest. He just grunts in response, at a total loss for how to respond.
Simon looks down at you. The way you kneel as your cleaving spills out of your tiny tank top - one of many you insist on wearing so often. He can give into temptation just a little bit, right? “Gonna need you to get closer, doll.”
“Oh!” You scoot forward until your knees brush his side. So ready to listen. Cute.
“Can you lean in a bit?”
“Like this?” You lean forward, chest pressing against him while your hand splays over his midsection for balance. Fucking hell.
“Perfect. Good girl.”
It’s bold and a bit uncoordinated even for him. Something Johnny would try. The purposeful choice of words seems to go right over your head. Instead you blush and smile, shifting your hips just a bit. Your chest pushes further into him. So soft.
Fuck.
You’ll be the death of him. Thank god you’re too unobservant to notice that he’s rock fucking hard.
He’s already done with the sink by the time of this little exchange, but he pretends to tighten some useless bolts anyway just to keep you against him a little longer before shooing you away. It’s cute, the way you scramble to get out of the way. Simon turns the water back on before standing, and gesturing toward the sink.
“Give it a try, luv.”
A little furrow forms in your brow as you step forward to turn it on, crouching and standing to make sure the leak has stopped. You turn the faucet off and whip your head around with a grin.
He’s pretty sure you burst an eardrum with the pitch of the squeal you let out, bouncing over and tightly wrapping your arms around his waist. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
“It’s no pro-“ he cuts off as you push up onto your tip toes and press a kiss to his cheek. He can’t help but bark out a laugh. Little minx.
“Oh, I got some lipstick-“ You reach up to smudge it off but he bats your hand away. He’ll wear it back to the garage and show off the kiss he got. Johnny’s going to absolutely fume.

rachel lindt cosplay!!! WIP images and more info under cut
Tumblr media
i used blender to model a rough dog head shape. it's super low poly because i used the export paper model addon (comes with blender, u may need to enable it in settings) the addon makes a PDF that can be printed and taped together. i found it works best with lowpoly and all triangle objects.
Tumblr media
i printed several mockups on printer paper to get the size and fit right, then printed it on cardstock. forgot to take a photo before i started paper mache-ing it sadly. i can share the .blend and .pdf files for the mask if anyone wants them, although they aren't very polished.
Tumblr media
i used paper mache (newspaper and elmer's art paste) to add definition to the cheeks, lips, nose and eyebrows of the mask, and to make it more durable. i'm especially pleased with the shape of the nose, and the wrinkles on the nose and around the mouth. rolling newspaper into a tube and holding it down with a single layer of gluey newspaper worked well for finer details. i wish i made the eyeholes a little larger since this mask isn't too easy to see out of. but the mouth hole incidentally makes it easier to breathe and talk wearing the mask.
Tumblr media
i painted the mask with acrylic paint and added teeth, made of newspaper rolled into cones, wrapped with masking tape, covered in paper mache and painted. i formed the horns in a similar way. painting the mask wasn't too hard, it's all solid colors except for the muzzle and horns.
Tumblr media
this is supposed to be the mask that taylor made for rachel. (it turned out slightly lumpy which i think kinda works to my advantage since it's a homemade mask in-universe :P) i misremembered and thought it was a hybrid between a normal dog and a transformed dog, not a normal dog and a human. i like my idea better tbh. (also why would taylor make it from chicken wire that sounds so poky and unpleasant to work with)
Tumblr media
the outfit is clothing i already owned or bought from goodwill. i added a fur collar to a jacket i had. i traced the collar onto newspaper to make a pattern, cut it out of fake fur, and jankily hemmed it and sewed it in by hand. i don't enjoy working with fake fur, cutting it is so hard. i have a lot of respect for fursuit makers.

I am not good at posing and the camera man was not good at taking photos lol
But here is my DIMENTIO cosplay! I might get better photos at the convention that’s in town this November though!
The cape took 3 days to sew with an $80(?) usd sewing machine from Walmart (courtesy of @pastelbiohazard )
And the mask took a total of 5 days (not including the breaks in between). Shaped using black paper mache from an already existing mask from Party City ($7 usd) while the pointy bits were made with $1 foam paper and wires for bending ($7 ?). Bells I got for $3.
Both fabrics were $11.99 usd a yard and was enough for both the cape and the mask.
The gloves and black long sleeve were purchased for $10 (gloves) and $19.99 usd (long sleeve) at a Spirit Halloween store and the puffy pans were purchased from Medieval Ware for almost $60 usd (I can’t make pants lol)
I did forget to paint the inside of the mask to prevent sweat. Thankfully it did not get damaged (yet pfft)
I might touch it up before the convention though. I have a black little fanny pack on me since the outfit doesn’t NOT have pockets. I’m also gonna carry some bean sprout hair accessories to give out to people huehuehue.
Oh yeah…I also had to wear a chest binder since…Im a female XHIHSBXKJSQJBXQ. And the shape was WEIRD. (UnfortunatelyIwastoopowerfulforthebinderandtakingitoffisapainintheass)

Closeup look of my Umbrastaff!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made it myself, using a broken umbrella (that I fixed with just a lil hot glue) I found in my school's lost n found. It wasn't theft, if they wanted it back it would not have been sitting there for seven months.
I got the fabric from JoAnn's Witching Hour collection, it's stretchy and black with kind of a cobblestone pattern with an iridescent rainbow shimmer that absolutely sparkles in the light! It reminded me of The Hunger so I knew I had to get it. I hand sewed each piece on around the frame, and though it is... messy... it adds character. The lace was also from JoAnns, and it has an iridescent shimmer that immediately drew my eye. I sewed on each length after the main part of the umbrella was complete-- I thought it could use some flair :)
As for the ribbon, I actually found that at a thrift store? It has some pieces of silver tinsel(?) weaved into it. The belt loop to secure the umbrella closed I honestly just stole from one of my belts. Umbrastaff > holding my pants up
That brings me to the part I am MOST excited to share; the charms!
Each point of the umbrella (there are 8 in total) has a charm secured to it that I made. I held an eyepin over a candle (with jewelry pliers. i am not here to get burnt.) and melted it into the plastic knob at the end, then secured with superglue. Then, separately, I made each charm out of wire, which I added beads to, and looped at both ends and the middle, so that I could attach it to the umbrella and the 2 charms I prepared for each.. hangy.. thing. They each have a charm I either made or selected to represent their respective bird, which is lowermost.
The Twins
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Lup (left) and Taako (right), I wanted them to match. I bought these little hummingbirds from a cute treehouse themed bookstore on my trip to Oregon, and after adding an eyepin, painted them over to resemble a calliope hummingbird and lucifer hummingbird, respectively. I thought hummingbirds were a good representation of the twins because of their constant need to move and the energy they have. Plus, their plumage is beautiful while still blending in to their environment. Lup got a sun charm (which I got from someone who does garage sales for a living?? one of her suppliers had a bunch of broken jewelry pieces so score I guess!) and Taako got a wizard hat, which is a repainted lego piece!
The Lover
Tumblr media
Barry's bird was perhaps the most obvious choice for me. A bluejay. Not only are they BLUE! J! but they are incredibly intelligent and have tight family bonds. This charm was made from the same material as the twins', as it was a miniature by the same company, but he actually started out as a cardinal! I may or may not have bought a 6 pack variety bag specifically to obtain him... jury's still out on that one. His charm is a flying bird since I thought it could symbolize his role as the lover, especially with his long search for Lup.
The Protector
Tumblr media
Look. I couldn't NOT make Magnus a wood duck. It's right there. This is a male wood duck's "eclipse plumage," in which they lose their bright colored feathers in favor of duller ones. I painted this a duck figure that came in a big bag of other animal toys that I bought at a thrift store specifically for my craft reserves... Good thing I did! The sword is a lego piece. My friend was heavily distracted by the fact I had a lego sword on my umbrella. Personally I found the wizard hat on my head to be more distracting but to each their own.
The Lonely Journal Keeper
Tumblr media
I know, not the most flattering angle. Believe it or not, this Great Blue Heron used to be an ostrich! With a little paper mache, paint, and imagination, Lucretia came to be. Coincidentally, on my trip to San Diego for the TAZ liveshow, we went to the zoo, and there was a great blue heron chilling in the penguin exhibit! I asked the zookeeper if it was theirs, but she said he just showed up same time every day (around lunch time...). The book on this charm I made from scrap felt (hat material) and paper. It was originally a lego book that I repainted, but that seems to have gotten lost when the charm fell off earlier-- some lovely folks dressed in Amnesty cosplay handed me the bird after it fell. Thank you guys for that cause I would have been devastated<3
The Peacemaker
Tumblr media
Ok so merle is doing a little worse for wear here. The texture of the owl toy (flea market baybeee) I painted probably isn't best suited to that without some prep work. For Merle, I chose the eastern screech owl because they are small and a little angry but still have the owl angle. His charm is a butterly (thought it does not show up great in this photo), though it WAS an angel before that one got lost somewhere. Oh well, still works with his nature thing!
The Wordless One.
Tumblr media
Davenport is so tiny compared to the rest!! I guess it's fitting, but it made him hard to paint. I chose the Atlantic puffin for him, because of their coloring and the fact that they're social migratory seabirds. His charm is a key (lego, yes yet again) because I felt it made sense for his character. I'm not here to stretch the analogy, it writes itself.
The Voidfish
Tumblr media
Finally, we have Fisher! Like Barry and the twins, this started as a minifigure of a jellyfish, before I painted it over with some iridescent blueish paint and sparkle varnish, to give it that magical feel. The charm is an abstract metal series of rings, which I felt fit the whole mystical thing the voidfish has going on.
In conclusion, I spent a lot of time on this project, and am extremely proud of the results, however flawed they may be! I am also very glad tumblr changed their image limit lmao<3

Twilight Advent Calendar 2023 Event
🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
Dec. 11 - Besides painting, what art forms does Esme enjoy? How do you imagine her art room/setup looks? (Fan artists, want to show us?)
A few she's tried and kept in her repertoire:
-knitting
-pottery
-sketching, mostly charcoal (more about this on Day 21)
-stained glass/little suncatchery, wind-chimey crafts
-anything to do with restoring antique furniture
-candle making
-photography
-artisan soap
-interior design/staging
A few she's tried and discarded:
-papier mache
-anything with sewing/fabric/thread. She's happy to mend things and she sometimes enjoys making curtains, but the rest is up to Alice. She made Rosalie a few dresses back in the day, a labor of love.
-quilling
-scrapbooking
-wood burning (passed her tools on to Jasper, whittler extraordinaire)
Her setup:
I assume Esme has as least one "studio" room full of projects and supplies, her drafting table, her larger easel, etc., but she also likes to scatter half-finished projects throughout the house. It makes the house more cozy and it's nice to work in different spots, use different light, sit with someone.etc.
Her comfy old wingback chair Carlisle gave her (I, II) always has a half-knitted scarf or something like that draped across it. The dining room table is perfect for spreading out blueprints when the morning sun cooperates. Her travel easel has visited several corners of each property by the time they pack up and move, and God help the undead teenager who decides to be uncharacteristically helpful one day and accidentally throws out the stack of project sketches that was sitting a little too close to the recycle bin. One time Carlisle saw Esme relaxing in bed and thought he would playfully pounce on her, only to send about 4,000 glass beads slittering into the floor, down the hall, down the stairs... the "kids" will never let him live that one down.
Her studio/craft room tends to be pretty well organized. She doesn't do well with creative chaos. Everything has its place and she's always reorganizing the stuff in there. Changing the feel of the room is an art form in and of itself. She also likes to have one or two easy projects sitting out that the others can "help with" whenever they feel like wandering in to spend time with her.
You can find all of the #twilightadvent23 prompts here!

TIMEWORN JOURNAL: A well-kept if obviously aged journal, its entries date back many years and are addressed not to itself, but to a person. There are many crude but lovingly rendered drawings within. It probably belongs to someone who's been looking for someone for a very long time. LOCATION: Courtyard
UNFINISHED HANDKERCHIEF: A lovely square of fabric decorated with what seems to be the beginnings of an embroidery project. Looks like... (apple trees/wisteria/sunflowers)? It probably belongs to someone who likes making gifts for others. LOCATION: Blue Lions Classroom
FOREIGN PENDANT: A subtle-yet-elegant pendant of foreign make. Its quality suggests a high degree of nobility; there is a small emblem of a wyvern on the back of it. It probably belongs to someone sentimental. LOCATION: Cathedral

UPDATE GOALS.
FAITH.
"Did you know? In Archanea, you have to use staves and tomes to use magic, but in Fódlan you don't need any of that! I don't know if I can bring that kind of magic back home, but if I can help even without a staff, then it's worth a try, isn't it? Trying to keep up with both of them gets a little tough sometimes, though!"
AXE + FLYING.
"My home, Macedon, was known for its wyvern knights -- and my brother and sister were the strongest of all of them! I chose to be a cleric to protect them like they protect me, but... hee hee! Thanks to them, I love the sky."

"Axes are so different from magic. Their strengths and weaknesses, their range, the types of foes they're better against... I won't ever be as good with axes as my big brother and sister, but that's okay, isn't it? I'm not them -- I'm their little sister! And I'll always be there to support them!"

"Ow! I should take care of myself... I can still learn from watching everyone else."
(Edelgard specific) "Ouch...! I already knew you were strong, but you really showed me again! Hee hee... take care of yourself, okay?"

THE ADVICE BOX.
I'm really cheerful when I'm with people, but sometimes I worry that makes other people not hear me out at all. Sometimes my siblings just brush me off!
>Start acting differently and maybe they'll change their mind. >Show them through your actions. They'll realize eventually. (correct?) >Stop being small

The students at the academy love all of the teachers, don’t get me wrong. They love Charles and his long narrations of old books he reads them, asking them little questions in between chapters that he loves the answers to almost more than he loves the books themselves.
They love Logan and his gruff, annoyed retellings of historical events that he was present for, often pausing in his lessons to rant to the class about the vast inaccuracies in their textbooks (they end up throwing them out mid-year anyway)
The love Hanks science class as well. He ALWAYS lets them do the experiments themselves, offering only minor advice and instruction. (His field trips are their favorite, having a private jet at their disposal leaves a lot of room for scientific escapades)
Raven, well…it’s not like there’s anything WRONG with her class. I mean she’s…well, HER, y’know? I mean she is a hero with a capital H. Or at least everyone in her training class always thinks so. (That optimism usually dies around the ninth or tenth lap around the entire campus)
But if you were to ask any student at Xaviers’s School who their favorite teacher was, I mean their VERY favorite? You would only get one consistent answer really.
Peter.
Peter, (or “Mr. Peter” as some of the kids insist on calling him,) is the recreational studies teacher. Which is essentially code for “We-Needed-A-Place-To-Put-These-Kids-For-An-Hour-Every-Day” Peter LOVES it.
He spends the entire hour playing catch or frisbee or hide and seek (he lets them win at that one, even though he knows exactly where they all are he likes to see them smile triumphantly at him after he calls that he gives up) Eventually he even starts organizing Arts-and-Crafts for some of the younger kids who aren’t up to Mutant tag or don’t have a corresponding mutation. It’s a hit. Pretty soon his classroom is decorated with messy paper chains, scribbley drawings of Charles or Ororo, (she’s a kid-favorite) Origami horses and crumpled paper-mache cats line his desk and the shelves Erik hung in all the rooms.
Peter loves it.
He always smiles and compliments the messy crayon depictions of the X-Men, all stick limbs and big scribbled heads with costumes stuck messily on the front. Once a little girl handed him a piece of paper with a large blue scribble on the front, when he asked what it was she had whispered that it was “the blue boy with the tail” like it was some conspiracy among the staff. Peter had had to struggle not to laugh at her sincerity. Kurt of course had loved it, immediately hanging the thing on the wall of his room.
He also helps them with costumes. Admittedly, they arguably don’t NEED costumes. None of them are ever going to actually be sent on a mission, much less enough times to qualify for a proper costume…
But how can he say no?
As a result, at 5:30 PM every day Peter meets with 10-15 bright-eyed teenagers in his arts and crafts room, and teaches them how to sew. Or spray paint. Or glue random odds and ends to capes made out of curtains and t-shirts. And every month he saunters out in his handmade silver-spray paint jacket followed by 15 giggling mutant kids adorned in varying degrees of feathers and colorful cloth.
This is by FAR the best job Peter has ever had the privilege to have. (And he wouldn’t trade his little group of chaos-mongers for the world)

It was rare that anyone at Garreg Mach Monastery would be able to get any sort of vacation. Especially with everything that has been going on lately. Mercedes was really ecstatic and relieved that they were able to get some downtime; it was a great feeling being able to relax with everything horrible going on, and in between classwork and training. Mercedes was grateful that Byleth fought for them to have this downtime, she knew they had their fair share of convincing to allow their students the chance to relax at the beach.
The days leading up to their day at the beach, Mercedes overheard the conversations from her classmates. It was very nice hearing some of her friends being excited to go and how jealous the other students from the other classes were. She laughed as Felix was complaining to Sylvain, Dimitri, and Ingrid about he didn’t want to go or had the time to and Sylvain was trying to convince him otherwise. Her smile grew bigger as she overheard Annette and Ashe were excited to go, talking Dedue’s ear off of what they were going to do when they arrived.
Mercedes knew exactly what she was going to do when she got there. She was going to sit under an umbrella, sit on a towel, and drink a nice refreshing fruit drink. It sounded very relaxing to her. She couldn’t wait for that day to come. Everyone needed it, especially the friends she had that lived in Northern Faerghus.
Mercedes scattered about, making sure that she grabbed everything she needed to pack for her trip to Derdriu. She went in circles, triple checking that she had her swimsuit, hat, sunscreen, beach towel, and other miscellaneous things. She let out a little sigh of relief as she grabbed her bag before leaving her room to catch up with her class. Her face lit up as soon as everyone arrived at Derdriu. The capital was a lively place with its many shops, fresh and cool air, and with a nice beach with pristine ocean. It was a beautiful place to relax at.
She did her best to contain her excitement as her and her class continued to walk to the beach. She really wanted to see the many shops, to see what kind of sewing supplies they had to see if they were any different from the Empire’s and the Kingdom’s. Mercedes wanted to see the fashion styles that were prominent in the Alliance so she could sew something for her friends. The most important thing was she wanted to try some of the confections that Hilda suggested she eat.
Mercedes let out a sigh, she knew she couldn’t do any of that. Byleth wouldn’t approve of it, especially knowing it probably took a lot of convincing to let them all come here. They were only instructed to stay within the vicinity of the beach. She shook her head, still very happy that she was able to come to Derdriu.
She hummed as she laid her beach towel on the sand, and opened her umbrella. Mercedes watched her friends playing in the sun. Felix was competing with Dimitri in some water related event, and having Sylvain or Dedue watching over it. She laughed to herself a little, she knew there wasn’t going to be a fair match. She knew that they were going to pick sides. Only if Ingrid was there, but she wasn’t. She was on the sand with Ashe and Annette doing something else. Mercedes faintly smiled at Annette when she looked over to her.
“MERCIE!” Annette yelled at her, waving her hand towards her. “MERCIE COME HERE!”
Mercedes waved her off, not wanting to walk over to her. She loved Annette very much, but she knew that being around her meant more exercise. The trek to the beach was enough for her, she was happy where she was sitting.
“MERCIE! MERCIE!!” Annette kept yelling.
She let out a small sigh before getting up. Her irritation soon dissipated when she got closer to her friends.
“Was there something you needed from me?” Mercedes asked, greeting the three of them.
“We wanted you to come spend some time with us!” Annette chirped, letting go of Ashe.
“Yes,” he agreed, trying to compose himself from Annette’s shaking.
“She thought you were a little lonely sitting on your beach towel,” Ingrid informed, with a smile. “It’s a shame you would just sit there and not spend this wonderful day doing something.”
“It’s alright,” Mercedes reassured the three of them. “The trek here was exhausting enough so sitting down felt very nice.”
“Ah, well,” Ingrid sighed. “We wouldn’t want to bother you if that’s what you wish to do.”
“Yeah, we do like relaxing in our own ways,” Ashe said, making a jab at Annette.
“Why was that directed at me?” Annette whined.
“Because you were the one that insisted Mercedes come have some fun with us,” Ashe reminded her.
“Hmph,” Annette grumbled. “I just wanted to spend some time with her while we can.”
“That sounds…very ominous,” Ingrid blurted out.
“Heheh, well, thank you for your concern,” Mercedes said, with a smile. “Since you are keen on wanting to spend time with me, what did you have in mind?”
“There is a sandcastle competition further up the beach!” Annette chirped. “We were about to go there and compete.”
“Oh! How lovely!” Mercedes said, clapping her hands. “I would love to join.”
“Yay! Let’s go!” Annette said, rushing towards the competition, being followed by Ingrid and Ashe.
Mercedes followed the group to the site where the competition was being held. There were so many people here competing, it was very nice to see. She was glad to see so many people able to relax, even in these trying times.
A judge came over to the group, giving them a few tools to help them out, and read the rooms. Mercedes chuckled as Annette rushed over to an open spot of sand, only to be followed by Ashe and Ingrid. It was funny to her, watching the three of them having no idea what to do. All they were digging a hole in the ground and placing sand into a couple of buckets.
“Have you guys never built a sand castle before?” Mercedes asked, joining them and sitting on her knees.
“No,” Ingrid replied, watching the sand fall through her fingers. “I’ve never spent much time at a beach. Spending most of my time in Northern Faerghus, we didn’t really have good weather to do so.”
“Ashe and I never had the time and means to get to a beach,” Annette replied, her expression growing grim.
“Oh, I’m sorry guys,” Mercedes said, sorrowfully. “Why don’t I teach you guys how to!”
They all smiled and agreed to it. Mercedes smiled as she began working, filling the hole that they made and patting the tight enough for it to stand firmly on the ground. She began to instruct the other three on what to do. It felt nice watching her friends building a sandcastle, watching them stuff the sand into the tiny little buckets. It was very calming to hear her friends laugh as the sand they stuffed into the bucket crumbled as soon as it came out.
Mercedes did her best to help out where she could. It was hard when Ashe and Annette started to mess around, having a little sand fight. She let out a sigh of relief when Ingrid tried to help her when she tried to help sculpt the sandcastle only for it to backfire. Ingrid, in the rare times that it has happened, had lost her footing and fell on half of the castle.
“Oh no, I’m sorry Mercedes,” Ingrid apologized profusely, wiping the sand off herself.
Mercedes could sense that they were worried about the growing silence. Thankfully it was cut off short when she burst out laughing.
“I’m sorry,” Mercedes tried to say through her laughter. “I don’t mean to laugh.”
“Heheheh,” Ingrid laughed along. “It’s fine.”
“Do you think we have time to fix this?” Annette asked, forming the sand into part of the castle.
“I think it’s lost,” Ashe said, jokingly.
“Heh, not if we talk like that!” Mercedes said, helping Annette.
“I hope Dimitri isn’t nearby,” Annette smiled.
“Why is that?” Mercedes asked, messing with a different part of the castle.
“Because he would be very disappointed by Ashe and what he said,” Annette teased.
“Heh, good thing he isn’t,” Ashe smiled, helping them fix the castle.
“He truly would be,” Ingrid teased.
The four of them rushed to finish their sandcastle, proudly showing it off to the judges. It wasn’t all that fancy, half of it had some design to it and was sculpted. The other half was lopsided and started to crumble by the time the judges came by. They didn’t win by any means of the word, they didn’t even come close. To cheer themselves up, they stopped by a stall selling fruit drinks and treats.
“Ah man,” Ashe whined, taking a sip of his drink. “I wish we could have won.”
“It would have, if you and Annette didn’t get distracted,” Ingrid teased, biting into her cold treat.
“Hehehe, he challenged my little sand knight to a duel,” Annette laughed. “I couldn’t turn him down.”
“Hehe, Mercedes chuckled, sipping her drink before taking a bite of her treat. “I don’t mind. I had fun with you guys. It has been a very relaxing day.”
“Good!” Annette chirped.
Ashe and Ingrid nodded before eating their treats. They talked and talked as they walked back to their classmates. Mercedes laughed some more when she saw that Sylvain was being buried under the dirt by Felix, which must have been some sort of punishment that he got from Dimitri.
She skipped over to them and helped Felix cover Sylvain with dirt as everyone stood by and watched. While he was stuck in the ground, making him suffer while they all swam in the sea, made up some beach games, and messed around. They stuck around until sundown before digging up Sylvain from his sandy grave and heading to an inn that they stayed at for the night.
------------------------------------------------------
I am finally able to post up my gift to emeslines on Twitter and IG for @fefanevents sunny summer exchange! I got to write about some of the Blue Lion's since they have some of my fave characters! So I had fun writing these guys together having some fun at the beach and just chilling with each other.

The Chain’s Craft Club
First up is Four, he’s a blacksmith in training, meaning that all those years of forging metal blades and sculpting sword handles would’ve made him really good at making things in general. He’s probably gotten pretty good at drawing due to all the times he’s sketched out a design for a new sword. Not to mention making quick sculptures to test out the design, maybe out of paper mache or something like that.
Plus he’s not just limited to swords, he’d probably be able to make all sorts of things with metal, like railings, furniture and kitchen tools. He definitely at some point in the adventure teaches Twilight how to make horse shoes for Epona. I have the feeling that Time knows how to make them too, so maybe he’ll lend a hand.
No surprise I’m including Sky, our resident woodcarver. Probably also pretty good at sketching, not just due to years of drawing out carving ideas but also do you remember that mechanic in SS? The one where you had to draw certain symbols on the Goddess wall to get rewards? I think that would also improve his skills. Also he strikes me as the type to always take on requests even if he doesn’t want to.
Twilight and his cute sewing skills. What don’t believe me? Have y’all seen his tunic? With all the patterns and details stitched into the fabric, you’re gonna try and tell me that he doesn’t just mend his tunic by himself but also casually embroiders it?
Defo saw Hyrule’s scruffy tunic and immediately set about teaching him how to mend it properly- along with the rest of his clothes. Maybe he wanted to learn how to knit after watching Uli so Wind ends up teaching him- who learned from Grandma.
Twilight: Alright how’s this?
Wind: Terrible, you’ll have to start over.
Twilight: What? There isn’t anyway to fix it?
Wind: At this point there’s no saving it; you’ve dropped way too many stitches.
Twilight: Seriously? I spent my whole night watch on it...
Wind: ...oh.
Speaking of Wind, he’s an honorary member thanks to skills acquired from playing with his younger sister. I’m talking collages, finger painting, little objects made from string, rubber band balls etc. If the chain ever come across a dungeon puzzle the require any of this skills Wind’s all over it.
Legend is an honorary member too because I just know he makes his own clothes. He along with Twilight and Wars (he’d be experienced at this too) are mostly responsible for mending the chain’s clothes. I’m sure survivalist Wild can also mend clothes really well, it’s just that no one trusts him to do theirs.
~~~
Thanks for reading! I got this idea from watching a video of someone restoring a horse’s hoof.
9th place in the LU character design ranking
Halloween costume time!
It's Ghost/Vessel/Knight from Hollow Knight!
(Sorry for the low res picture)
I made this from scratch a few years ago. The cloak clasp is the Void Heart charm, made from air dry foam clay.
The mask was a little difficult to make without any experience. But here's what I did:
I cut the back of a styrofoam mannequin's head off. I scraped out a place for the eyes Then I covered it with clay to make it match the shape a bit better. (I named it steve)
Tumblr media
I use steve for future masking endeavors.
Then I put cling wrap over it and paper mache it, avoiding the eyeholes. Then after waiting for it to dry I cut the paper mache base into shape (some of the edges weren't perfect) and trim the eyeholes.
After that I work on the horns. I used small blocks of styrofoam and cut them into shape (this took a bit because the styrofoam wasn't good quality and I didn't have a good knife).
I first tried to use regular clay on the mask, but it always cracked and shrank too much while drying. Instead, I used air dry foam clay. It's really easy to shape, the only problem with it is that it can be difficult to get a smooth texture on it.
I tried different methods to glue the horns to the mask (hot glue, superglue, gorilla glue, ect), but because of the irregular surface, it was difficult to hold it in position while it dried. So I just used the foam clay to connect it on the outside and it worked well.
I bought a cheap black scarf from a thrift store and hot glued a strip of it behind the eyeholes. I didn't feel like spending money on mesh. Then I hot glued a strip of elastic to it to act as a strap.
It fits me, though I have a fairly small head and it squishes my nose. I'd recommend that if you're a bigger person, to use a different base than the back of a mannequin head. I used a male one, which was bigger than the female one, and it is still small. Or you could put more clay on it.
The cloak wasn't too hard to make, I just bought some fabric that looked similar enough to the Knight's cloak and a pattern so I knew how to make it. I have hardly any sewing skills and it turned out fine.
The clothes underneath are thrift store bought or stuff I already owned: black turtleneck, black leggings, black knee high boots and thin back gloves.
There isn’t a perfect crafting material and one isn’t strictly “better” than the other: a blog post styled rant on why people need to stop asking which material is the best and why 3D printing pieces for cosplay is not ‘cheating’ or easier than any other method
I have seen waaaaay too many people lately (especially on the clock app) claiming that 3D printing is cheating or somehow easier than the low tech, older methods like foam work and thermoplastic crafting. This absolutely drives me crazy.
I am a fabrication girlie at heart. I am a foam gremlin to the core but started out with Worbla (a delightful classic). I have recently picked up sculpting/mold making/resin casting. I am teaching myself how to 3D model. I have put hundreds of hours into finishing the dozens of 3D printed props and bits & baubles I have for various cosplays. I have worked with air drying clays, apoxie sculpt, paper mache, and chainmail. I work both in the digital and physical spaces for patterning. I have won several major craftsmanship awards with my fabrication skills. With all that as my credentials, let me say that 3D printing is not any easier, faster, or somehow better than all the other things I mentioned.
There is no such thing as a perfect crafting material. Anyone that tells you that is trying to sell you something. Every material and it’s corresponding techniques have pro and cons- the things that it excels at the and the things that it doesn’t work so well for. Wether it is a high-tech and automated process or a low-tech process done mostly by hand, every material can be utilized poorly or expertly. What makes the difference in the quality of the finished product or what wins awards in craftsmanship contests is how the material/technique was executed. A low budget cosplay can beat one that used tools that cost upwards of $1,000. It’s all about HOW the materials and tools were used.
For every 3D printed piece, there are lots of steps. You don’t just press a button and magically have a beautifully finished sword or geometric little Genshin Impact accessory piece. No, not all.
It has to be modeled first, then run through a slicer program to be printed. There’s lot of behind the scenes calibration that has to be done on the printer and adjustments of the model to get it in the optimal position to minimize seams and support material. There’s adjusting settings on the printer, like infill, to balance strength of the finished print vs amount of filament used (and therefore the final weight of the print). After printing, you have to remove support material and clean up the raw print. Next up is the eternal limbo of filling and sanding (god, it takes forever). Depending on your seams, you may be stuck in Bondo hell for a while too. Finally there’s painting, which can range from a quick blast of spray paint but could turn into the exceedingly complicated process I like to do that ends up using about six different paints. Then there’s the clear coat to protect the finished product.
A 3D printed prop does not magically appear from the ether. Much like any other material, there is a long list of steps and so much work put into a single piece. By the nature of how 3D printing works, pieces will come out very exact and crisp with a precision that human hands can’t quite achieve. But that comes at the price of expensive equipment, a steep learning curve for 3D modeling, and countless hours invested into the entire process from beginning to end. Even with purchasing models as I often do, it’s still not easy, cheap, or fast to make 3D printed pieces for cosplay.
Foam can win over 3D printing and sewing can beat out any fabrication build. It’s not a matter of WHAT was used. It’s a matter of HOW WELL it was used. Craftsmanship is not determined necessarily by the material but by the skill of the person using it. 3D printing is just a different set of skills than what is needed for Worbla or EVA foam.
『𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐭 • 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐡, 𝐈 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐤』
Servant is here!
This was totally on impulse. I really love how it turned out, it was my first time successfully using white lashes, so hurray for that. I currently have a poll up on my Instagram comparing my both my Komaeda cosplays from 2020 and. 2022, so if you’d like to put your two cents in on that be my guest.
I’ve had insane amounts of inspiration lately, but so little time, and the school year is about to start yet again… I’m dreading it, but I know that I need my education purely for the fact that I’m learning technical skills that I desperately need. Things like pro paper-mache, poly-thermal plastics, sewing classes, pattern making classes… I started this blog in the hopes of learning and sharing all of these skills with the world. I know I’m pretty slow on posting, but I’m gearing up to learn how to maximize my time so I can keep doing what I love, and continue sharing it with you all.
Alright, bye for now!! I’ll post in an infodump about a special antique sewing machine I’m trying to get my grimy little paws on. She’s part of the cosplay studio I’m working on putting together!
Alternatives to Buying That Statue for your Altar
One of the most popular things to put on your deity altar is a statue and for good reason! They can be beautiful and help evoke a closer connection to your deity. Maybe you have a pop culture deity or figure you worship or work with as well so you want to get a funkopop doll or action figure made by the company that's currently making works related to this figure?
Instead of purchasing something from a big corporation or from sites like amazon or temu here are some alternatives. Remember that it's always better to support a small creator than to purchase from a company. Are you working with "All Might" from Boku no Hero Academia? It's always going to be better to buy something from a small artist than to buy from Funko. And if you can't afford to support a small artist and you aren't handy/crafty, try to see if you can buy something second hand from
mercari
depop
facebook marketplace
poshmark
ebay and etsy (you'll have to make  sure the listing is for a secondhand item and not new)
goodwill
any local second hand store
If however you are crafty or you are willing to try and craft a statue for one of your deities, spirits, or any other figure you want here are some ideas for you:
Find a maker space or library in your area that let you 3d print and make a model or visit one of these sites to find a free model close to your deity
https://sketchfab.com/features/free-3d-models
https://www.thingiverse.com/
https://www.myminifactory.com/
https://cults3d.com/
https://thangs.com/designer/Thangs3D
Paper mache has a lot of potential if you don't want to invest in many materials and you're willing to have a less detailed a slightly bigger figure
Polymer clay, air dry clay, and cold porcelain are all wonderful options if you're willing to learn some new techniques and invest in some specific materials. Polymer clay requires you to make the finished product in the oven, but most air dry clay and DIY cold porcelain clays do not need oven baking.
Sew a doll and dress the doll up in clothes that remind you of your chosen deity/spirit/figure and make or second-hand buy them small accessories that you think they would have (think a tiny bow and arrow for a hunting figure)
Take a secondhand/old doll or action figure and use epoxy resin and paints to customize it. This is a deep rabbit hole of a craft for sure, and requires some safety measures and materials but you can do a lot with customizing dolls
Buy a ceramic statue at a secondhand store and paint it or dress it up! This obviously leaves less room for customization, but a little paint and some fitting clothes can do a lot to make you think of certain figures.
All of these are just for if you want to make a figure for your deity/spirit/figure. There's lots of other ways you can incorporate their image on your altar:
Paint a portrait of them or a landscape scene that feels the most like them
create a collage for them out of printed images/old magazines/old photos.
Create a diorama for them-- maybe it's a temple they were worshiped at or the place you see in your mind when you are with them
Embroider their most prominent symbol or even a portrait of them.
Make a string art portrait (most of these link websites or apps that generate the pattern for them, use your own discretion when deciding what apps to download or sites to visit)
All this to say that you can make the act of creating something for your deity into a devotional one. Maybe in the crafting process you also spark an interest in learning more about the materials you used, or you realize you want to do this for other people too. Maybe it just gives you more of an appreciation for artists who use these materials and have their own shops so you save up to support them.
