Spotted Salamander eggs (Ambystoma maculatum), family Ambystomatidae, with Wood Frog tadpoles (Lithobates sylvaticus), family Ranidae, northeastern USA
The egg mass is greenish, because of the presence of a green alga (Oophila amblystomatis) that only grows in the egg masses of Spotted Salamanders.
This alga feeds off of carbon dioxide and waste substances produced by the embryos/larvae, and provides the embryos with oxygen and products of photosynthesis for nutrition, in turn.
Not all spotted salamander egg masses have this alga.

Hi, please enjoy this frog I found on a perpetually wet patch of sidewalk in front of my dorm
Tumblr media
This bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) clearly thinks this sidewalk is a pond, and from the sounds of it, they might be right.

American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) in Long Point, March 2022. Based on the yellowish throat and the tympanum (disc behind and below the eye) being larger than the eye, this is a male Bullfrog. Males are typically smaller than females, and this male was already quite sizable! . A New Post is up on my blog at norfolknaturalist.ca, check it out for more observations like this one! . . . . . . #nature #ontario #americanbullfrog #lithobates #lithobatescatesbeianus #bullfrog #longpoint #longpointontario #norfolkwild #blognorfolk #norfolkcounty #norfolkcountywildlife #frogsofinstagram (at Long Point, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ch4Ve2TOs7F/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

today's funky frog of the day is the green frog (Lithobates clamitans) - this stunning example is a blue morph, caused by a lack of yellow pigment in the skin! this is one of the most common frogs in eastern north america, and show some diversity in their coloration, although usually not as intensely blue as this fellow.
photo by Ken Potter - check out the rest of the photos of this frog that the user uploaded, they're gorgeous!

This may be a bit of a long shot since it's not an amazing photo but do you know what species this guy is? I found it in northern Wisconsin if that helps at all??? Ik you aren't as familiar with US amphibians but I've been wondering for a couple of year so thought I'd ask 🤷🏻

Very friendly guy who had to be moved due to dog activities :)
This is a Lithobates, but the angle does not show whether it is L. catesbeianus or L. clamitans. My money is on the latter based on overall head shape. It's a male; check out that huge tympanum.
