He’s an oldie but I don’t have a full story for him yet. His and my Zelda designs are influenced by the tribal attire of my culture, along with some of our old beliefs and superstitions in their backstory haha.

New Year, New Pinned Post

Hello friends,

I haven't updated my pinned post since July so we're updating with all of the fun things I've posted since then along with some handy-dandy Masterposts/links!

This year, I'm trying to be a little gentler with myself. In light of that, I'm writing whatever I want to write, I'm not beating myself up for missing deadlines or not completing challenges, I am just going to thoroughly enjoy writing. I've a slew of prompts that are in my inbox, I'll continue working on those as the mood strikes (you're always welcome to send me more that I will get to when I'm able).

I absolutely loved this book from the first time I read it in high school, it's got an absolutely fascinating take on superheroes and how they'll enmesh with celebrity culture in a world not unlike the one we knew then. The series at large poses some fascinating questions about duty, legacy, and just what it means for these cities to court powerful superteams, and this first book in particular focuses on the difficulty of "coming out" into hero society.

but my fav thing to do in the game now is see someone who is Definitely Just A Researcher and put on my yiga clan outfit before I go up and talk to them. a guy on the great plateau the other day got so mad at me because he worked SO hard to make sure his disguise was perfect and I'm out here, in his territory, in the full outfit completely out in the open, and I am blowing his cover link is gonna see me and know get LOST!!!!

Off topic, but it just occurred to me- would you ever consider making one of those whiteboard things where several people can draw on the same space? Could be fun, but of course it’s up to you and in your own time!

˗ˏˋ ✦                  ⟶  gifts  mean  a  lot  to  elijah.  buried  underneath  the  layers  of  careless  attitude  is  a  sentimental  individual  who  cares  deeply  for  his  friends,  his  family,  and  general  humanity  around  him,  and  the  best  way  he  knows  how  to  show  that  is  by  crafting  the  most  thoughtful  presents  he  can  think  of.  when  the  letter  came  to  him  in  his  mailbox  indicating  which  resident  of  santa  moenda  he’d  be  gifting,  elijah  was  nervous to open it  ──  what  if  it  was  someone  he  didn’t  know  very  well  ?  what  if  he  didn’t  have  any  ideas  ?  this  was  a  hefty  burden  to  bear.  

arlo  should  have  been  easy.  he  has  so  many  nerdy  interests,  some  of  which  him  and  elijah  share,  that  there  is  a  world  of  possibilities  open  for  him.  unfortunately,  that  became  the  problem.  he  was  plagued  by  indecision  for  the  last  week,  going  over  ideas  in  his  head,  starting  and  stopping  projects  three  or  four  times  before  he  finally  settled  on  the  handmade  majora’s  mask  sitting  in  the  box  he’s  cradling  nervously  towards  his  chest.  

it’s  not  PERFECT.  sculpting  isn’t  really  his  thing,  and  he’s  never  done  cosplay  before.  a  wooden  bowl,  foam  spikes,  and  clay  carefully  molded  over  top  of  it  might  be  too  heavy  for  arlo  to  wear...  ──  if  he  even  ever  wants  to  do  a  skull  kid  cosplay.  does  he  already  have  a  majora’s  mask  ?  it  feels  like  the  first  thing  a  zelda  fan  would  get  themselves...  ──  fuck.

as  if  imparting  something  fragile  to  arlo  (  and  it  is  fragile  ;  in  all  of  his  projects,  elijah  puts  his  whole  heart.  if  arlo  doesn’t  like  it,  elijah  is  pretty  sure  he’ll  be  crushed  )  he  holds  out  the  meticulously  wrapped  box.  the  mask  is  wrapped  inside  a  shirt  he  bought  from  second-hand  style  as  a  last  minute  addition,  though  elijah  now  regrets  that,  too,  his  brows  furrowed  as  he  frowns  at  arlo’s  hoodie.  “  i  hope  you  like  it.  i  hope  you  don’t  already  have  one.  “  he  voices his nervousness out loud,  settling  back  against  the  counter  and  folding  his  arms  around  himself.

BACK, sender pats receiver on the back.

     "It's nice, y'know?" the mister who's taking his measurements says. The tape floats along his waist, then just under where he's holding his arms out. "Don't often get to see young brothers travelling together."

     Link freezes tighter into the statue he's made of himself.

     What must they look like from the outside? This isn't something he's thought any given level of too hard about. To someone who'd sooner laugh about the truth of Shion and Grasshopper than accept it, "brothers"— seems like a reasonable conclusion to come to. He wonders, with the foggy awareness of a mind ploughing through a journey's worth of memories, if that's the impression everyone they pass by takes from them. Link's kind of always left the talking to Shion.

     Once upon a time, this wouldn't have been so terrifying to consider.

     He smiles, strained, as the mister laughs at something Shion must've said from behind him. Those wings motion for him to put his arms down, so he does, stiff and cautious. The tape goes sideways now. Something about his shoulders. Or his torso. Link registers all this the way he imagines a pictograph box would.

     How long has Shion had to deal with this assumption, knowing this — whatever they've got here — won't be forever? Without saying anything about it? Is he...okay with it? Will just play along with it, 'cause it's easier to not have to explain? Link can't even begin to tell where he himself stands with it all beyond this worry, and— and.

     There's a warmth, suddenly, at his back. It's light enough that it doesn't bloom into a crawling burn across his skin or nerves, and present enough that he can tell it's Shion: stepped up beside him, in all his mindfulness. Link turns his head to the hero. He can't feel what sort of face he's making.

     Shion's is so soft, though, that he hopes his might even reflect a sliver of it.

We've got a new book planned for Paper Cuts later this week, and it's a very exciting one! This tale, joining us by author permission, is one that I've been looking forward to since the moment I heard we can do it!

I've been really digging deep into Solarpunk as a genre of late, and the short story this is based on being practically my introduction to the concept! I'm absolutely ecstatic to be able to share this story with you all!
