This isn't abt artists mad abt losing a few commissions on the internet this is about large numbers of artists getting their art stolen so people can make something out of THEIR stuff, that they worked for years to create, without permision. AND corporations using free software to steal instead of paying artists properly. You would think with the amount of artists that are like 'hey this is bad and harming me', as well as the whole ass Hollywood-wide strike that happened with AI usage being one of the key talking points you would understand that it's bad and should at the very least have rules put around it.

But actually artists should stop focusing on something they can try to curtail before it gets too wildly out of control and instead focus on uhhhhh dismantling the economy if they're so mad their stuff is being stolen

I was thinking about manic pixie dream girls this morning and looking up definitions and examples and it feels like a very nebulous definition. like I definitely get an Image(tm) in my head when someone says the phrase, but it's really hard for me to actually acknowledge that a lot of the commonly cited manic pixie dream girls are actually that. that's why I was googling it. but I found a few people voicing the same "oh, it's actually hard to define a manic pixie dream girl, there are more people talking about it than there are actual characters that fit the stereotype."

and you know why I think that is? it's because "manic pixie dream girl" is not an actual inherent character type. "manic pixie dream girl" is a thing a man does. I know most people acknowledge that the relationship plays a huge part in it, so this isn't really a new concept or anything. I just want people to stop trying to define a manic pixie dream girl by things like "oh she's quirky" or "she dyes her hair" or whatever because although those things may often apply, they are in no way defining of the character type. a manic pixie dream girl is only that if she's treated like that by a man
