outward appearance means nothing if your are unable to carry yourself with grace and confidence. it’s important to radiate an aura that is unique to u and is beautiful and enchanting to others. find your essence. are u an ethereal innocent angel or a bombshell femme fatale? Just by channeling in a sort of character in your demeanour can drastically change how other people view you. you might be wondering “hey this is a bit much just for school,” and ur right but it’s all fun at the end of the day

femme fatale: noun

an attractive and seductive woman, especially one who is likely to cause distress or disaster to a man who becomes involved with her.

"a femme fatale who plays one man off against another in pursuit of money"

a femme fatale is a women who shows power through how well she can toy with a mans brain. in hindsight she might seem like a women catered to the male gaze due to the strong enchantment she has upon men, but do not be fooled. a femme fatale is a strong willed and powerful women who only caters to her own needs. she achieves her goals by seducing her pawns to use them to her own advantage. channeling in the characteristics of a femme fatale can make one feel powerful, sexy, and oh so alluring. to become a femme fatale you must ooze with seduction. femme fatale examples include gilda, from the movie “gilda”, jane smith from “mr. and mrs. smith, and amy dunne from “gone girl”.

feel powerful when you walk from one place to another. let other people stare at you while they feel intrigued by ur allure but never completely give them what they want.

make your appearance look bold and striking. be sexy. dress to show off what other people want for themselves. wear dark and luxurious colours. let your hair be free and voluptuous. a bold lip and sharp eye makeup brings attention to the most seductive parts of your face. a femme fatale is nothing without a striking appearance

have your voice sound like smooth whiskey. speak slow to captivate others. make sure your voice comes out prominent and clear. add a slight rasp into your voice. each word u speak should be carefully chosen. people should be addicted to hearing you speak. be sassy and smart but always with class.

smell expensive. pick a scent that exudes class. examples: black orchid by tom ford. mugler alien. good girl by carolina herrera.

a femme fatale makes sure to always get her way. don’t be afraid to use ur seductive quality’s to get what u want whether that is good grades or social status. [ however do not put urself in dangerous positions. please don’t sleep with a teacher lmao ]

coquette: noun

a woman who flirts.

in my own definition a coquette to me is a girl who is delicate and radiates innocence. she is more commonly known as the girl next door or the pretty girl. people become attracted to this essence due to the childish ways of a coquette. though that sounds concerning, a coquette isn’t a women who tries to act like a child on purpose. she is just a women who is naturally sweet and innocent. they hold onto a childlike quality that the rest of us have lost and so desperately crave. the allure of the coquette is ultimately her adorableness. her demeanour is light hearted and youthful. no one feels the need to do her wrong because she is just too cute for any harm. she is an ingenue. examples of coquettes are lizzy grant, cat valentine from “victorious”, alice cullen from “twilight”, and marilyn monroe.

wear clothes that make u look cute. the coquette aesthetic has been around for quite a while. the main aspect of a coquette outfit is its innocently teasing nature. wear bright colours that compliment ur skin like a blush pink, bright reds, and pretty lilacs. make people around u appreciate ur innocent look but know that there imagination is running wild. the makeup for these looks are more natural and rely on the condition of ur actual skin. take good care of ur skin. have a set routine but remember that it’s completely okay if u have pimples! you can still be a pretty little coquette even with acne.

vanilla or any kind of sweet scents are a staple for the coquette essence. ariana grandes perfumes are perfect for making people mouths water for a sweet snack when u walk by. olympea by paco rabanne is my personal favourite.

be kind and sweet to people who deserve it. people need to see u as a sweet and innocent doll who can do no wrong. but don’t be afraid to be risky and be the complete opposite of that once in a while. the rare moments where u show ur femme fatale side will have people incredibly intrigued by you.

perfect your voice. your voice should sound pleasant like some sort of princess. make your voice sound higher but not ear screeching high. add a beautiful mix of air and softness to ur voice. a breathy voice is incredibly intoxicating and suits the coquette.

𝔭ê𝔩𝔢-𝔪ê𝔩𝔢

pêle-mêle: adverb

in a confused, rushed, or disorderly manner.

also known as the manic pixie dream girl, a pêle-mêle is the essence of a girl who is described as whimsical, eccentric and is quite literal the life of the party. though at first glance she’s all rainbows and sun shine, the shadow side of the pêle-mêle can be described as a tortured artist. her optimism is delightful. she is not afraid to take risks. she’s a mess but people can not help to be intrigued by her free spirited ways for she is a drug to people who crave adventure. examples of a pêle-mêle include ramona flowers from scott pilgrim vs the world, mia wallace from pulp fiction, harley quinn from the DC comics, and holly golighty from breakfast at tiffany’s.

don’t be afraid to take risks. risks and adventure is what the pêle-mêle lives off of. be brave. do things you are afraid to do. start small and work your way up like from riding that roller coaster your so afraid of to having a motorcycle race with your friends (trust me those are so fun!). show people just how daring you can be and immediately people will be magnetized to you.

wear clothes that are unique and you feel comfortable with. the pêle-mêle rejects conformity and the way you appear should reflect that. wear clothes that harmonize with your crazy personality. be daring and bold with your makeup. make sure you stand out from the crowd and that you do not care what people think. the alternative style perfectly suits someone who embodies this essence.

be confident. obviously this rule applies to all the essences but confidence and self love is at the core of the pêle-mêle. you need to show people that you do not care what they think of you and that at the end of the day, you are just here for a good time. the more you practice self love, the easier it will be for you to express yourself without the fear of judgement from others.

be a socialite. don’t be afraid to speak your mind to people. pêle-mêle’s are usually people persons. they love good company that they can go on adventures with. make friends by being your true self and don’t hold yourself back. even a few mishaps by saying the wrong thing from time to time can make people fall in love with your clumsy nature.

obviously there are plenty of other essences you can achieve for yourself but these are my top three favourites. to find out who exactly who you want to become try the few tips listed below!

how to find your personal essence

what kind of people captivate you? what type of personalities do you see that you wish you could be? do you find yourself being envious of the pretty girl next door, the man eater, or the mysterious persona? figure out what kind of a person do u wish to truly become and inherit their manner. find out the characteristic of ur desired essence to the littlest of detail. this can include from the way you walk, talk, eat, sleep, look, smell ext. think of this as becoming your ideal best self. take the female archetype quiz to get a better understanding of your self.

what kind of aesthetic catches your eye? do you enjoy the glamorous high fashion life or do you like the softer cherry coke and heart shaped sunglasses niche? maybe you enjoy completely different things or a blend of a few. live up to this aesthetic. do this by expressing this aesthetic in the way you dress to how u decorate your room.

what kind of environment do you feel the most comfortable in? are you someone who loves education and school? or do you love the idea of being free and living in an RV for the rest of your life? maybe you just want to live in a cozy high rise new york apartment or a huge mansion up in beverly hills. envision where you see your ideal self in 10-20 years. your ideal environment can reveal a lot about what kind of lifestyle choices you want to make.

you might be thinking to yourself hey these aren’t the best tips for school. and at an educational standpoint you’re right. but it’s important to embody your best ideal self to truly enjoy this lifetime. these are little things that can be used to motivate you. i believe that inner self work should be prioritized over your school work though both are important. make sure you are taking some time out of your week to find out more about yourself and who you want to become. be the best you.

Hi! I'm introducing some friends to the untamed and making some notes on where the netflix subs don't give enough information/good translations, according to the fandom. I saw your translation of the 'to die by your hand' scene and it KILLED me, so I was wondering if there are any other particular scenes you think it's important to note a different translation? Thank you so much if you can!

ooh so there aren't any scenes i can think of where the translation falls so so short of the actual emotion and meaning as much as that one, however there are definitely some less dramatic instances.

in general, i would say that mandarin (and a lot of other languages from what i've heard) has a lot more inherent emotional depth than english, so in translation, a lot of the subtitles sound very emotionally neutral or ambivalent when they really aren't.

the instance of this that sticks out to me the most is during the confrontation between wei wuxian and jiang cheng at the guanyin temple (ep 48, ~9 minutes in) where wuxian says to jiang cheng「都不要放在心上了」(dou bu yao fang zai xin shang), which the subtitles translate as "please don't keep it in your heart," which i'm actually not really mad at as a translation, but it's just not a phrase used much in english, so it sounds slightly awkward/doesnt convey the emotional context of that phrase.

so for context, mandarin has multiple ways of saying, loosely, "don't worry." there's「不要擔心」(bu yao dan xin), which is probably the most common and versatile to say it, and there's「不要放在心上」(bu yao fang zai xin shang), which is the one wuxian says to jiang cheng. (there's other ways too, they're just not rly relevant here) the literal translation of it is "do not put it on your heart," which the netflix is pretty close to, but ofc that doesn't tell u much abt usage. the way i've explained it in the past was, say u made a mistake at work and were beating urself up over it.「不要擔心」is something your coworker or boss might say to you to essentially say "hey it's no big deal, don't worry about it, ur fine;" it can be very casual. whereas, once you get home and start talking abt ur bad day at work,「不要放在心上」is more likely something your parent/sibling/partner/other loved one would say to you as they put a bowl of ur favorite soup in front of u. it has a level of inherent familiarity and deeper desire to comfort the person ur talking to than「不要擔心」. (note: i say inherent bc「不要擔心」doesnt have to always be casual/relatively emotionally neutral, it can be said w emotion ofc but the words themselves do not carry as much emotion as「不要放在心上」.

other than that, i’m not remembering any other specific scenes rn (if i remember smth, i’ll rb w the addition and @ you), but one thing that happens throughout the show is translation discrepancy when characters are addressing each other. for example, when wuxian and jiang cheng talk to yanli, the subtitles always have them both addressing her by name, but in chinese, family members often dont address each other by name, like my younger brothers both call me 姐 (jie), which means older sister. jiang cheng calls yanli 阿姐 (a-jie) most of the time (the 阿 at the beginning is just a prefix used in front of names and other forms of address to express familiarity, it’s the same character used in a-yuan). wuxian calls yanli 師姐 (shijie), which is what you call a senior female fellow student studying under the same master/in the same school/etc.

nie huaisang calls mingjue 大哥 (dage)/哥 (ge); 哥 means older brother and 大 means big, so 大哥 is often used for the eldest brother (esp common if there are multiple brothers). an interesting thing is that wangji does not call xichen 哥 or any variation of it, rather he calls him 兄長 (xiong zhang), which also means older brother but is a term of respect and much more formal, so that’s also a reflection of their characters and upbringing. 兄長 is not in common use nowadays but 哥 very much still is.

after nie mingjue, lan xichen, and jin guangyao take their oath of sworn brotherhood, they also change their forms of address with each other. for example, guangyao calls xichen 二哥 (er ge), which means second older brother (since xichen is the second oldest) and calls mingjue 大哥 (like huaisang does). (i feel like i vaguely remember guangyao being called 三弟 (san di), which means third younger brother, by someone but don’t remember if it was xichen or mingjue.)

(also impt to note that in chinese culture, familial terms as forms of address aren’t strictly reserved for family (whether that be blood or found). for example, in a casual setting, you can address any woman who is your parents’ age or between their age and your grandparents age as 阿姨 (a-yi) (or name + 阿姨), which is the term for your maternal aunt, and you can address any man of the same age range as 叔叔 (shu shu), which is what you’d call your paternal uncle. similarly in a familiar/casual setting, you can call women older than you but younger than your parents 姐姐/name + 姐, like the daughters, who are all younger than me, of my parents’ friends call me jessie jie-jie. and you can call men in the same age range 哥哥/name + 哥, like how wang yibo calls xiao zhan, zhan-ge. the same applies for people younger than you, with which you would use 妹妹, younger sister, and 弟弟, younger brother.)

another example is that jin guangshan calls jiang fengmian 江兄 (jiang xiong), 江being his family name ofc and 兄 meaning brother (same character as in 兄長, which wangji calls xichen), since they’re of the same age and status and their wives are sworn sisters. xichen, on the other hand, calls fengmian 江宗主 (jiang zong zhu), which means sect leader jiang. in the subtitles, these are often just translated as “you,” when they’re talking directly to him.

so in general, there is a lot of information abt characters’ relationships, level of familiarity with each other, age, etc that is contained in their forms of address that just doesn’t come across in the netflix subs, since those default to their names like 80% of the time.

Deemo Last Dream Wonder Tree Part 3

Yes i know its been more than a month since my last update...im sorry D:

Exams and then japanese class and Uni applications...they took the life out of me also genshin too and sleep and another novel

So i guess to make up for it, i will update with a few parts of translations that my tired ass brain can handle. (Well actually i could use MTL but still machine aint as accurate as human) As i said before when i started translating this, its based on my own understanding of the sentences so i hope u will bear with me if not pm me for the chinese version if u want to mtl it urself

Alright enough of my rambling, here’s the 3m mark. I will likely release the 4m mark tmr or sunday (since im more free now, and its only a matter of motivation)

“Good Morning Deemo.”

I don’t know whether it is day or night. Or rather in this world, there is no day and night. Even though I cant differentiate between day or night, so whenever I wake up I routinely greet Deemo.

“…..”

Deemo took a quick glance at me as if to reply to my morning greeting before going back to playing the piano. From yesterday onwards, Deemo has been practicing the score that I found yesterday. Playing it note by note to ensure he doesn’t make any mistakes….

(I wonder if Deemo can talk…?)

Even though I’m not so sure, I feel that what I said to Deemo was conveyed to him. * (是有確實傳達給Deemo的)

(However… there’s no one to chat with me…its so boring…)

That’s right, even though Deemo understands what I’m talking about but he doesn’t talk. Making it hard to even have a quarrel.

“Hais…”

(I wonder how long do I have to stay in this world….)

I thought as I glance at the window. A sudden unknown feeling of not even knowing the distance home washed over me. Using all my might, I gave a big sigh big enough to blow up a balloon. As I rested on the stubbled root, I suddenly thought of checking up on something and lowered my head. Within my line of sight I saw something that make me stand up instantly.

--Unexpectly underneath the piano was the sprouted sapling. Within a moment, my originally down mind suddenly started running at full engine. Right in front of me I can only come up with a deduction.

(…Could it be that the sapling grows from listening to the sound played on the piano…!)

Thinking back, even if it was only for a bit, at the moment after Deemo finished the song, I felt the sapling grow even for a bit.

“Neh, Deemo, does the sapling grow after listening to your play…?”

I have been unable to calm down since the discovery, however I waited until Deemo finished playing before I asked.

“….”

Deemo moved his fingers from the (gentle) piano keys, looking at me with pearl white eyes and slowly nodded his head, gently patting my head.

--Then…If that sapling grows until the height of the window…I can go home!

So that’s why Deemo have been playing non-stop…

“Deemo…you are so gentle” *(温柔can be interpreted as tender/warm/gentle/soft)

I said it lightly, but I feel a bit choked by my words.

From then on, Deemo and I make eye contact without knowing when it happened and slowly raise towards the window that we will never reach with our hands. I somehow feel that the window, become a bit closer even if its just a bit.

A while later, Deemo started playing the piano again.

(I wonder if I can hear the melody from another place…?)

I went towards the book room as I thought about it. As the masked lady is in the book room, I find myself being unable to calm down. If possible I would really want to avoid going in. But constantly staying in the same room make me feel restless.

(Masked lady is always in a deep sleep…)

Today – even though I don’t know when it started – the masked lady is still in a deep sleep on the table.

--When exactly did masked lady started sleeping here…

(Looking as if…. she is….dead)

I suddenly had this scary thought. At the corner of my eye I saw a treasure chest. That chest looks like it was praying I could notice it. It was exactly the same chest I failed to open the last time. I don’t know why but I feel that even without a key, the chest could be opened. I slowly walked towards the chest and extended my hand. As I thought, without exerting much force, the chest was easily opened like an automatic door. I looked into the chest and saw an old looking score.

(It doesn’t feel like I have seen this score before…) ♩

Feeling excited, I hugged the score and ran to the Tree room towards Deemo who was playing the piano whole heartedly. The thing that is making me excited isn’t because I opened the chest, nor I found a new score. It is the feeling that after Deemo knows about it that kind of happiness.

“Deemo! I found a new score again! It was in the chest!”

Feeling excited I passed the score to Deemo. Then Deemo with an happy expression (or I should say looking happy) immediately play the new score I found for me. It was different from the usual dramatic like melody. This time it was a peaceful and happy melody. Sitting beside Deemo and leaning on his shoulder, I thought that before I sleep, I would want to dance together with Deemo. I believe that like this I would dream of something so happy that I never want to wake up.

Just watched the social dilemma and i just wanna say that it kind of gave a new perspective to me on how i view social media as a platform of public expression.

I don't really know how to make specific points about how i feel about it but here goes:

What you see on social media doesn't mean its true. You see people posting about aliens, political news, something close to the ww3 happening this year and it convinces you. Sure a lot of people may think stuff like that is prolly a hoax but what about those many people who actually believe it? Those things that are displayed and free to click links on how to find more info about something is super accessible and easy to find but how do you actually verify that its true and legit? How can you ensure anything on google is actually real? At the end of the day the information that you perceive may just be as much of a hoax as much as you think unicorns are a hoax

some ppl I'm sure a majority of people already know this but im just gonna say it. What we naturally see on our feed, information that feeds our brains automatically stays in our brains to influence the choices we make. Be it about politics, environmental beliefs, literally anything. We are most definitely not aware of how social media actually influences us, when it damn well does. Some ppl may say stuff like, "no way social media is gonna influence me" but just think about it for a second. Its like a magicians system on how you fool a humans brain and perception. You are not aware of the parts that u are not aware of. But the magician does(aka the apps/system). You don't tell a magician "i'm not gonna be fooled by your magic tricks coz i can see right through them" because you don't. i mean, u less you actually know how it works, but eithet way, you have to know how tthe system works first.

the more times u see a certain information, a system on that social media app collects the data of what u often see on there so that they don't lose you from the app. Of course, they want you longer on there, that’s why often times u find urself dragged along for hour and hours on end on your phone scrolling on unnecessary things.

Its a little scary to know how much the system manipulates us in a way that we are not aware of. Its scary to know that social media can actually influence your beliefs on something that you already have a stand for. So to anyone reading this, i hope it gives u a sense of awareness on how much you have to limit yourself from ur phone. I'm not saying its not good for you. Everything has its pros and cons but times are changing and our technology is advancing. However it does not mean that our brains are advancing too. Don't let your phones take control of yourself. Don't let it drive u. Ur supposed to drive them. I mean at least that’s how i think it works. Often times i see ppl being more controlled by a gadget than having a hold of their own self.
