AND ANOTHER THING, I absolutely hate how they ended Maximus's character arc. What I was predicting, and what I think they should have done, was a final confrontation between Black Bolt and Maximus where Black Bolt killed Maximus by saying "I love you." I think the reasons why are obvious, honestly. First, there's the plain as day symbolism of Maximus being killed by love. He's spent so long trapped in this victim complex, it literally crushes him to hear that he's always been loved and that this persecution was all in his head. Second, it would complete the circular pattern by having Black Bolt finally kill all of his family with his gift. And third, it would have been honest! There was no way Maximus was leaving the moon, that was clear. If he had stayed where he was when the dome collapsed, he would have died a slow, agonizing death. By practically vaporizing him in an instant, Black Bolt would be sparing him that pain and making sure that his beloved brother died as peacefully as possible knowing that he was loved. But instead???? Black Bolt chooses the most deranged non-revenge ever???? Let's be clear, he locked Maximus in a doomsday prepper bunker with enough food and water to last an eternity, but no companionship and no way out. He sentenced Maximus to a slow, lonely descent into madness, all by himself on the moon. And he never even once says he loves him. Because he obviously doesn't!! That's not rising above the bad guys' level, a trope that I hate in the first place by the way, it's torture!! It's so much worse than a quick painless death!! Narratively, I don't like what that establishes for Black Bolt's character, and I don't think it's in any way a satisfying conclusion to Maximus's. Marvel, please hire me, I could do so much better ffs

they should invent a new type of "staying in bed for 2-3 hours after you wake up repeatedly opening and closing apps on your phone" where it makes you feel awesome and energized and emotionally fulfilled

like can you imagine if you, as a housed person, said "oh man im really struggling financially right now I can't pay my bills- my electric is going to be cut off, my car might get repossessed, and I definitely can't afford to get a new laptop after mine broke"
and someone who had a lot more money than you said "I can help you!" and you were like"oh my god great thank you so much-" and then they just offered to take you to olive garden. and you say "hey man that's really nice but I'm actually okay on food right now, I really just need to pay some of these bills. I already got food somewhere else (foodstamps, friends, food pantries) and I really just need money. if you can't do it that's fine but I don't need food"
and the rich person said "you must not really need money or be poor then or else you'd take me up on my offer. I bet you were going to use that money on drugs anyway"
that's what yall sound like when you refuse to give homeless people money & just offer to buy them food
food is great! if you need it and that's what you're asking for. unfortunately food doesn't buy clothes, hygiene products, shelter, pay a phone bill, or yes even buy drugs or alcohol if you're going into detox and can't do so safely without literally dying

The thing I keep coming back to, with all the *gestures expansively* is that real life doesn't have peaceful epilogues.
Every single win has to be defended. Forever. I'm sorry. It sucks. The Nazis lost until they stopped losing. The US had abortion rights, and then 50 years later it didn't. Empires fall, and then they invade other countries again. Oppressive regimes are overthrown and replaced with other oppressive regimes. You will never finish the work etc etc etc. Which is why it's so fucking important to be able to acknowledge and celebrate progress, when it happens. The people who came before you didn't put in all that work for nothing, and you aren't, either. You can't save it all for the Ultimate Victory because there is never going to be an Ultimate Victory. There's no such thing as a time when everything is good, and ours shall not be the commune of Heaven.

Laios saying he's stronger and better organized than Shuro because he eats 3 meals every day and sleeps properly is probably one of the most encouraging things a fictional character has ever said to me
