awesome so today we (my colleague besties and me) were potentially exposed to covid by two different people we spent the morning with because nobody gives a fuck anymore and we’re all going to get sick and die. awesome! i love being alive in fall 2023 when nobody gives a single shit about covid anymore and this nightmare country has apparently decided to move on even though the danger has not subsided and arguably has increased and we no longer have access to resources or information to keep ourselves and each other safe. fuck the world
#purrs#covid19#delete later#one person (who thankfully was wearing a mask) was recently exposed to ppl who have now tested positive and wasn’t showing symptoms but#decided to show up anyway and not tell us about it until we were already unmasking to eat lunch 3 hours into the program. didn’t have the#decency to say it beforehand. and the other person who was not wearing a mask has apparently been testing positive for a WEEK asymptomatic#ally and it’s unclear if they are still testing positive so 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃 luckily i had to leave early bc my cramps are destroying me mind body#and soul but i am so fucking angry and despondent rn. there is apparently a huge spike on campus and in my state and there is NOTHING from#the campus about it and so few news articles about what’s going on. i cannot get covid and i cannot see the people closest to me get covid.#my anxiety about covid which is already through the roof will be INFINITE and exponentially worse if i or anyone i seee on a daily basis#gets covid. when we still don’t know what long covid even is or when you get it or how you get it. i am so miserable. FUCK THIS PANDEMIC!!!!#also the second person didn’t share this information until THE LAST FEW MINUTES OF THE PROGRAM after everyone had been together in a room#for like 6 hours 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 again i left early but i am fucking terrified and furious 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰#like the way there is a massive spike and instead of using the tools and resources available to us to track and predict the spread and#protect people we decided to fucking chop off all of it because awww boohoo everyone’s tired nobody wants to think about it anymore 🥺 SHUT#YHE FUCK UP PEOPLE ARE DISABLED PEOPLE ARE DYING THE DANGER IS NOT OVER AND NOW WE ARE FIGHTING IT IN THE DARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Find the words from the list in your wips and post the paragraphs they belong to.
Thanks to @zeawesomebirdie for the tag.
1. Star
(From "Virli's Story", one of my LoZ "The Realm Walker" fics. Virli is a member of Revali's tribe of Rito so looks similar to him, but with orange-red feathers, no cheek tufts, and a shorter crest. She has blue eyes and a pair of white dots on her face near where Revali's red spots are. Also her "hair" is braided in a single braid that splits into four at the end.)
Virli’s flight group closes in on the Korikitan Market, and right off the bat their plan is in need of adjustment.  Below, a group of soldiers on horseback approach the monster horde, the black armor with red embossed patterns and horsehair decorated helmets are a clear sign that they’re from Yosikun’s Imperial Army. And if that wasn’t enough, many soldiers have banners attached to their backs, rectangular flags with a diagonal separation of colors, dark slate gray on the bottom and dark red on the top, with the bright red circular emblem of Diryen (De-rye-in), the Alliance’s counterpart to the Goddess Din.  There’s also a single gold four-point star at the top left of the banners, some kind of unit marking probably…
2. Eye
(From "The Long Nightmare", Revali's century long ordeal of being possessed by Ganon. He's just lost to Windblight...)
The creature hovers over Revali, making sickening gurgling noises.  Revali closes his eyes and waits for its cannon to burn through his flesh, “Dad, I guess I’ll see you soon…  Mom, please, stay strong…” Revali can still hear the gurgling, why hasn’t it finished him?!  He opens his eyes and glares at the beast, “Well, what are you waiting for?!  Go ahead!  Finish me already!” It just looks at him with that damned, pulsating Guardian eye.  “What, you want to gloat over me?  You want me to beg for my life or something?!  Fuck you!  You can’t defeat all of us!  Daruk or Urbosa or Mipha will send you back to whatever hell you crawled out of!”
3. Call
(From "The Ballad of Kass", where Kass and Rinili have sneaked into Gerudo village. They're wearing Rito lady clothes, but with the Gerudo veil, since Kass' crest is a male trait in my headcanon. Kass has a green hood and veil while Rinili's is red. Rinili is midnight blue with light blue legs (like Saki) and has four long ornamental tail feathers that he's cleverly tucked into a sash so they think they're part of an outfit instead of his body.)
Kass and Rinili make their way up the staircase and are blocked from entering when the guards cross their spears across the entranceway. The one on the left demands, “State your business vure.” Kass knows enough Gerudo to be insulted.  Yes, he IS a bird, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t rude to call a Rito that out of the blue.  Although, he’s diplomatic enough to let it slide, Kalia would likely have started an incident had she been sent!
4. Dark
(From "Ildia's Story" where Ildia, TP Link and Midna's daughter, first sees the sorry state of Hyrule Castle. She's wearing plate mail armor that's black with glowing blue lines. She has a bright orange ponytail and mismatched eyes, left is blue and right is red, while the whites of her eyes have a hint of yellow. She's standing on a rock near the quarry area in BotW.)
From the top of the rock Ildia can see the huge castle.  It’s like something out of a nightmare! The castle is surrounded by massive black stone pillars with purple lights emerging from the ground and the ruins of a town are in front of the castle, the entire scene surrounded by an ominous, dark aura.  She pulls out what looks like a bird mask, the Hawkeye tool her father once used.  She looks around the ruins: little more than piles of rubble where buildings once stood, more of those machines patrolling, pools of ominous purple and black slime, some of those pools have spike like structures sticking out of them.
5. When
(From "The Azure Phoenix", where Revali's talking with Bedoli and Laissa after waking up from the coma he fell into after Link and Mipha freed him. He's sitting up on the floor of their roost, naked with a blanked wrapped around him. He's just learned that Link and Mipha are still in the village.)
Revali’s genuinely surprised, not so much by Mipha staying, it’s totally understandable that she would stay being the kind soul that she is.  But Link?  Why would he stay when he needs to rescue Daruk and Urbosa?!  It’s not like he and Link were friends, perhaps he didn’t want to leave Mipha alone here.  Then again, Link’s odds of succeeding in rescuing Daruk and Urbosa rise considerably if he has help from the greatest archer Hyrule has ever known...

AI in the Manufacturing Industry: Use Cases, Benefits & More
Tumblr media
“Some people call this artificial intelligence, but the reality is this technology will enhance us. So instead of artificial intelligence, I think we’ll augment our intelligence.”
–  Klaus Schwab
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has grown massively over the past decade. In fact, we are pretty sure that most of you would be familiar with “Alexa” or “Ok Google”, which are present in our everyday lives, in the form of home assistants.
Now, that was about your daily life and the usage of AI for every day. But if we say that AI has ventured into the manufacturing industry as well and it is booming? Would you believe us? After the AI in IT article, we are quite sure based on our facts, figures, and research that Artificial Intelligence in the manufacturing industry has opened doors to several possibilities.
So, in this article, let’s cover all of those aspects and how the manufacturing industry is changing ever since the involvement of automation in the industry.
The Role of AI in Manufacturing: Understanding the History & Modern-Day Solution
AI’s role began in manufacturing by the 1980s, where many businesses were searching for various ways to improve efficiency. Hence, AI came into the role where manufacturers used AI applications to capture and share worker knowledge. In short, rather than depending on clipboards, notes or word of mouth, the employees who worked in manufacturing factories codify knowledge into software systems. What are those software systems you ask? Well, those are computerized maintenance management systems, also known as CMMS, or manufacturing execution systems, that stands for MES. These two made the employees’ life easy. How? They made information-sharing convenient and faster while streamlining production through automation and providing real-time data collection and more.
If you ask about “the current scenario of AI in the manufacturing sector”, then we can say that in today’s world, AI is advanced and it hands down working for quality control, robotics, predictive maintenance and even safety hazard detection.
In fact, with the use of sensors to detect mechanical issues, like abnormal vibrations or temperature spikes, AI can alert the appropriate personnel about the problem and can also tell them How, When and with Which Tool, this problem can be fixed. See, modern day requires modern solutions, and this is just an example, we have a dedicated section of AI use cases in the manufacturing industry, that will talk about all the major use cases and how AI was helpful.
Did you know Modern-Day smart manufacturing solutions like L2L Dispatch, feature these along with many more AI-driven capabilities. That’s why the reports, according to MarketsandMarkets, are talking about how AI in manufacturing industry is expected to grow at a whopping $16.7 billion by 2026.
We say that the more shop floor workers have interactive sessions with AI-enabled technologies, it means the smarter these technologies will become and make their future better.
Major Use Cases of AI in Manufacturing Industry
Tumblr media
1. The Rise of Cobots in Manufacturing Sector
Have you ever wondered who lifts all these heavy machinery in the manufacturing industry? It’s Cobots, short for Collaborative Robots who frequently work alongside humans and function as their extra hands. Cobots can learn many tasks. For instance, they can detect and avoid obstacles on the way. In fact, people who work in manufacturing often rely on cobots to do heavy lifting. For example, cobots in automotive factories are used to lift heavy car parts and hold them in place while human workers work on securing them. These cobots, ever since its development, have also been able to locate and retrieve items in large warehouses.
2. The Concept of Predictive Maintenance in Manufacturing Sector
Manufacturing plants, railroads or other users of heavy machinery have started to use AI-based predictive maintenance (PdM) in servicing needs. If an equipment isn’t maintained properly and in a timely manner, then that firm would lose money and their precious time. Plus, if an organization does it quickly then also it’s a problem. Hence, PdM systems help to work on those issues by predicting what replacement parts will be needed and when. It also helps the workers because timely maintenance leads to better safety.
If you are wondering how PDM does all this, then it makes use of analytic capabilities of ML algorithms along with data from IoT sensors embedded in the equipment to monitor their conditions. Thus, helping workers and companies in finding out the issue before time.
3. The Use of AI in Supply Chain Management
We are sure that you must have come across the term supply chain management in manufacturing and would have noticed how big of a role it plays in the manufacturing sector. So, how does AI help in supply chain management? Typically, large manufacturers have supply chains with millions of orders, materials purchases, ingredients and what not. Handling these manually is energy draining and time consuming. To solve this, AI is used. But there’s more to AI in the supply chain.
For example, AI-powered demand forecasting accurately predicts trends and supply chain disruptions based on previous data collection. Also, when it comes to tracking shipments and on-time delivery of goods then AI helps by analyzing data and identifying patterns, helping managers make informed decisions.
4. AI is Excelling in Product Development
Another great example of artificial intelligence in the manufacturing industry is through development of newer products. AI helps to quickly glance through various data, wherein it acts like a benefit to help manufacturing industries decide what products to bring next in the market. AI also helps engineers to design new products, where they talk about what they want, and it creates several options where they can have a look at. This makes the design process faster and better.
How AI in Quality Assurance Is Impacting?
In the manufacturing sector, especially when it comes to electronics, paying close attention to every little detail is crucial. In the past, ensuring the quality of electronics and microprocessors was a manual task, carried out by skilled engineers who meticulously checked if everything was manufactured correctly and if all the circuits were properly set up.
But times have changed! Thanks to automation and AI, we now have image processing algorithms that can do this job automatically. Imagine installing cameras at strategic locations on the factory floor. These cameras can instantly and continuously assess whether each item being produced is flawless. With this smart technology, we can achieve real-time and efficient sorting of products. It’s like having a team of super-precise inspectors working tirelessly, ensuring that every single item meets the highest quality standards.
What are the Benefits of Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing?
Tumblr media
⦁ Improved Quality Control As you may know, AI is fast and when it comes to the manufacturing industry then AI can make the quality control faster. AI with its automation techniques can pick up microscopic errors and issues, improving productivity and defect detection by 90%.
⦁ 24/7 Support Artificial Intelligence in the manufacturing sector can work round the clock performing tasks with the same level of energy and accuracy. It doesn’t make mistakes or get injured, it works in any conditions and can operate a factory efficiently at any time.
⦁ Inventory/Warehouse Management  AI helps with keeping track of things in warehouses. It goes through the historical data to check sales, stock inventory, trends and what not. This makes warehouses save money and have enough products. For instance, a clothing store can use AI to predict the things that people are interested in buying. It can check the past sales and weather forecasts to keep the right clothes. This helps them to store the exact amount of clothes.
⦁ Enhanced Productivity AI is good at simplifying complex calculations and coding and can-do tasks automatically, saving engineers precious time. With AI-driven automation, manufacturing employees can focus on creative aspects of their job, increasing productivity and unlocking the full potential. Along with that AI boosts productivity by providing easy access to insights, where engineers can quickly find suitable solutions for specific products.
What Are the Future Trends & Forecast About AI in Manufacturing?
Tumblr media
Did you know Manufacturing sector is said to see great potential in the future? According to a survey by Deloitte, it is said that about 93% of firms are confirming that AI will play a pivotal role in technology to drive innovation and growth in manufacturing.

How Load Time and Page Speed Influence Landing Page Conversion Rates
Tumblr media
In an age dominated by digital experiences, every second count—especially when it comes to the speed of your website. A slow-loading landing page might not seem like a big deal, but it can have a significant impact on your conversion rates. Users expect quick, seamless experiences when browsing online, and anything less might send them straight to your competitors. In this post, we will delve into how load time and page speed can influence landing page conversion rates and explore strategies to optimize your site for a better user experience. How Does Page Speed Impact Conversion Rates? Page speed is the measure of how fast content on a webpage loads, and load time refers to the time taken for all the content on the page to fully display. The quicker, the better. Google’s research has shown that as page load time goes from one to three seconds, the probability of a user bouncing increases by 32%. That figure rockets up to 90% as page load time increases from one to five seconds. Slow loading pages spike your bounce rates and negatively impact your conversion rates. Causes of Slow Landing Page Speeds Slow page load times can be a result of multiple factors: 1. Unoptimized Images: High-resolution images can be a considerable drag on load times. 2. Too Many HTTP Requests: Every piece of content - images, scripts, and CSS - generates a separate HTTP request, slowing down your site. 3. Excessive Plugins: Every plugin you add requires resources to run, and too many can significantly slow your page loading speed. How to Improve Landing Page Speed Fortunately, there are ways you can boost your landing page speed: 1. Optimize Your Images Deliver images in next-gen formats, use compression tools, and consider implementing lazy loading, an approach that loads images only as they're needed rather than all at once when the page loads initially. 2. Minimize HTTP Requests Combine files to reduce the number of requests, use CSS instead of images whenever possible, and streamline the elements on your page. 3. Eliminate Unnecessary Plugins Assess your currently installed plugins and deactivate or delete any that are not absolutely necessary. 4. Utilize Caching A caching plugin can store a version of your site on visitors’ browsers, which means they don’t have to download everything anew each time they visit your page. 5. Implement a Content Delivery Network (CDN) A CDN stores copies of your site at different data centers around the world. This makes your site load faster because it’s being served closer to where your user is. 6. Assess Your Hosting Plan Sometimes, slow load times could be because your host server isn't up to the task. Moving to a better host or upgrading your hosting plan can often solve speed issues. Conclusion Load time and page speed may seem like minor elements of your overall digital strategy, but they can have a massive impact on your conversions. By making page speed a priority and implementing the above steps, you can create a faster, smoother experience for your visitors—keeping them engaged, driving conversions, and ultimately growing your bottom line.

A Deep Insight into How Remote Patient Monitoring Makes Lives Better
Tumblr media
Among the most cutting-edge healthcare technologies, remote patient monitoring programsstand out. It provides a convenient way for people to get high-quality medical services without leaving their homes. The programme uses the latest technology to streamline tedious processes, reduce overhead, and enhance analytical visibility.
AlthoughRPMwas already on the rise before the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic, it had a massive spike in popularity then. The need forremote monitoringequipment grew as the crisis called for less face-to-face interaction.
To Begin With, What is RPM? An Overview of Remote Patient Monitoring
Innovative technology has allowed patients tomonitor their medical problems remotely, and as the gadgets continue to diminish in size, their accessibility will only expand. The term "remote patient monitoring," which may also refer to "remote physiological monitoring," refers to a system that uses digital technology to monitor and test patients, to generate medical suggestions and instructions remotely.
Let's take a deeper look at remote monitoring of patients to find out why it's become so popular.
What Does RPM Mean?
The term"remote patient monitoring" (RPM)refers to digitally collecting a patient's or prospective patient's health information.
Information on a patient's condition is sent to a doctor when it has been identified as requiring attention.
Data obtained can be used for diagnosis and health monitoring by doctors.
They can better advise patients on improving their health through RPM and adjust their prescription or dose accordingly.
Medical facilities use RPM to help patients with various illnesses, including diabetes and COVID-19.
Self-care is aided by RPM, which also lessens the need for doctors' office visits and hospital stays.
In addition, RPM systems allow the elderly and the disabled to maintain their independence and postpone the need for institutional care.
How Does RPM Function?
RPM uses various medical devices, including but not limited toblood pressure and heart rate monitors, weights, oximeters, spirometers and glucose metres.
RPM services don't need engaging audio-visual or virtual visits, only mobile medical equipment and technology that gathers health-related information and delivers it to the healthcare professional.
Receiving notifications in the case of a patient's fall also allows remote patient monitoring to maintain track of patients prone to losing their balance.
It helps keep tabs on calorie consumption and diet plans and checks on those with addictions and drug abuse tendencies.
Benefits of Remote Patient Monitoring
Let's examine the primary advantages of remote patient monitoring.
Reduced Potential for Disease Spread:
The transmission of the illness can be stopped by limiting contact with sick people. There will be less opportunity for the spread ofdisease due to remote monitoring, which will also mean fewer visits to the hospital.
Facilitating People's Access to Health Care:
Because ofRPM and telemedicine, patients no longer have to make time for busy trips to the clinic. Instead, individuals can get help from doctors without leaving home. A more significant number of patients could chooseRPM servicesbecause of this.
Reduced Transportation Problems:
Patients with mobility impairments can now get treatment at the convenience of their own homes because ofRPM technology.Remote monitoringeliminates problems that could happen with traditional tracking methods because of things like distance, cost, and the quality of the infrastructure for moving things.
Easy Access to Medical Records:
Various tools, including medical implants, biometrics devices, devices, andblood pressure monitors, are utilised inRPM. This innovation helps doctors get their hands on patient information more quickly, leading to a more precise diagnosis.
Expenses Decreased:
The number of readmissions and the penalties that come with them has decreased asRPM has been used more. This has savedhealthcare providers a lot of money. One way in which less in-person contact can save money and free up time for doctors is by reducing the number of visits each patient needs.
How is RPM Saving Lives?
Possibility of Better Health Outcomes:
The relationship between health outcomes and the quality of treatment received is strong. ThroughRPM, patients can take charge of theirhealth and medicine. By usingRPM, doctors can get a complete picture of a patient's health over time, ensure the patient follows their treatment plan, and step in before expensive problems happen. Clinicians can improve their relationships with patients and the health outcomes of their patients by using RPM data to make a personalised treatment plan for each patient and by involving patients in decision-making.
Detection And Treatment at The Right Time:
Health promotion and illness prevention programs should prioritise early diagnosis of chronic diseases. Early diagnosis and treatment may save lives by finding health problems as soon as possible when treatment is most likely to work.
It is difficult in the standard healthcare system to diagnose a chronic condition early without hospitalisation and close monitoring of thepatient's health. Instead,RPMallows for remote, real-time, and continuous monitoring of health conditions. Thus, a patient's vitals can be taken and recorded while he relaxes at home with a good book or movie. However, doctors may check these vitals on their browsers after they finish their rounds or even while they are still in progress.
Providers can now keep an eye out for signs that a patient's health is getting worse. They can quickly stop the decline and avoid problems when they see these signs.
RPM in Emergencies:
Urgent care is required for a patient arriving by ambulance. Because the patient's vital signs are being tracked throughRPM, physicians and staff can begin preparing for treatment before the patient arrives at the clinic. As a result, more lives can be saved, and the time needed for preparation can be reduced.
Conclusion:
Remote patient monitoring systemshave become one of the most critical tools in the medical field in recent years. RPM allows for interaction between patient and provider that has never been seen in traditional medicine. This allows for a quick exchange of information and ideas about a person's health status. Because of this, RPM software is now a widely used tool in the medical field, making treatment better for people worldwide.

What dyou think rolycoly line? Im still upset coalossal isnt a damm train :”(
Tumblr media
Rolycoly (perfect name) is honestly just great all around; just a giant hunk of coal with a single eye and wheel that it uses to move around. We don't actually have a lot of wheeled Pokemon (in fact, I don't think we have any others? unless Whirlipede counts), so this is a fun way to approach things.
Visually speaking, it also looks quite nice, with a two-color palette and a simple design. The orange eye pops really nicely against the grey body as well.
Really, the only complaint I have visually is that I feel like the wheel could've been just a hair lower down, as it's easy to miss and kind of blends into the rest of the body. That's a nitpick, however. Overall, it's a really solid start.
Tumblr media
I can't decide if I love Carkol's face or hate it. On the one hand, it's got an almost deranged expression that kind of endears me to it; but on the other hand, it's weirdly distorted, like someone took the smudge tool to it in Photoshop. I also question it gaining two eyes; it feels like it should've kept the singular one, both because it's unique but also because that would make it look more like a mine cart (with the eye being the headlight). And if you really wanted to give it regular eyes, at least make them orange like the mouth.
Face aside, Carkol is decent for what it is. I like how the legs can function as both wheels and legs depending on what it chooses to do with them, and the mine cart idea isn't bad.
However, I do feel like the coat is integrated a bit oddly. It's just kind of stacked on top of the body and partially encapsulates the head in a way that just doesn't feel natural. Maybe if the body had more of a dip in the middle or even if the coals weren't piled as high as they are it would work a bit better.
Tumblr media
I think Coalossal's proof that people only think so many Gen 1 designs are good because of nostalgia, because Coalossal is textbook Gen 1 and yet still gets a lot of criticism. Kaiju-esq bipedal thing? Check. Triangle Sugimori-style eyes? Check. Random third evolution that doesn't quite feel like it matches the rest of the line? Check. All it's missing is cat ears and/or a horn.
And that's kind of the thing. Like, on the one hand I like it because it is a classic kaiju-mon, and I really like those designs. And it's not a bad design in that respect, with some huge shoulder spikes and a massive, chunky body.
But on the other hand, it's really, really generic. The wheels are completely gone at this point and the singular eye has been gone, and those were Rolycoly's two most unique features. The only ting that really connects it back to its pre-evos is the lump of coals on the back, which looks... well, rather tacked on. As in, you could remove that lump and not loose anything (in fact, it would look better without it), which isn't good when it's the central theme of the design.
While I hear a lot of people wishing it was a train, I don't think it going in a less linear direction and being a kaiju is inherently bad either. It's just more that it doesn't do anything interesting. Have black smoke rising from those shoulder spikes, have ventilation marks on the stomach, have the stomach be a partially-open hatch full of coals, keep the wheels (a wheeled kaiju sounds awesome tbh), just something! And if you're not going to do something that interesting, at least give us a train instead.
Tumblr media
While I have some issues with the g-max form that I'll get to in a minute, I gotta say that honestly? This looks a lot better than the actual final evo, at least in the sense that it's way more connected to the coal theme and has a more interesting design, being based off a furnace and even having the stomach vents like I suggested above. I kind of wish this was just the final evo, especially considering it'll go away in future gens when the g-maxes are inevitably scapped and we're left with only the original line.
With that said though, it's not perfect. First, those super spiky, crystalline (???) shoulders look out of place and are bizarrely thin and spiky in an otherwise chunky design.
Secondly, there are all these random plates and greebling (yes that is a real word, look it up) all over the body that just distract from the furnace thing and make it busier than it needs to be.
And thirdly, it took me a while to place what looked wrong about this thing's body to me, but I think it's the head. The coal obscures it, but the head is ridiculously tiny compared to the body, and the way the coal rises so far above it and over it creates the illusion that the head is in the middle of the body instead of the top, making it look even sillier.
So as a whole, Rolycoly's a wonderful design and Carkol's not bad, but Coalossal's just kind of generic and the g-max ist oo busy and has some wonky anatomy. With some retooling this could've been a fantastic line, but as is it's a strong start with an underwhelming finish.

Fan-made Monster Variations:
(So back in October, when a bunch of people were doing that MH drawing challenge, I decided that I wanted to contribute something myself. Having no drawing skill of my own, I decided to instead try and think up a new Monster Variation (Subspecies, Variants, etc) for each day of the month. So that I could contribute something creative of my own for the month. School kinda got in the way of that but I’ve managed to finish them now. Hope you enjoy what I’ve thought up!)
Honeylord Arzuros:
An Arzuros Variant that has formed a symbiotic relationship with a large species of bees. In exchange for protecting them from Vespoids/Bnahabras and carrying their hives around for easier flower access, they provide it with ample amounts of honey alongside aiding it in battle.
Slushrush Legiana:
A Legiana subspecies that lives in more tropical environments. The freezing liquid it produced is now more of a mushy goop, which it uses to trap prey or opponents.
Skyrazer Seregios:
A Seregios Deviant that has mastered the use of its species signature scales. It can throw them from every part of its body at much faster speeds than before and is known for its signature technique of throwing opponents directly into lodged scales.
Marble Brachydios:
A white-shelled Brachydios subspecies that fosters a different species of slime mold. Rather than fiery explosions, this slime mold creates violent bursts of water.
Deathcloak Nerscylla:
A Nerscylla Deviant that has scavenged the old flesh coating of a Vaal Hazak. It still contains faint amounts of effluvium, afflicting those hit by its physical attacks until the cloak is broken off.
Usurper Seltas:
A larger and more aggressive Seltas Rare Species with a pair of horns akin to those of a rhinoceros beetle, which are heavy enough to lessen how often it flies. They are solitary monsters that bow to no Seltas Queens, defeating the many who may try.
Glassjaw Dodogama:
A desert-dwelling Dodogama Subspecies that only has the ability to produce intense heat in its mouth rather than the explosive capabilities of those living in the Elder’s Recess. Instead, it piles up sand when it charges to create large balls of glass that slam into (and then shatter on) opponents.
Melodic Qurupeco:
A Qurupeco Deviant that has developed even better control of its singing abilities. Alongside performing its songs much quicker and producing new effects such as paralysis or causing all small monsters in the area to swarm a chosen opponent, it can create bursts of sound on par with the roars of Brute Tigrex.
Bogwater Jyuratodus:
A Jyuratodus Subspecies that lives in bogs and marshes rather than muddy desert oases. It’s body is coated in moss, algae and other aquatic plants that are much harder to remove.
Toxisplash Tetsucabra:
A much smaller brightly-coloured Tetsucabra Subspecies that has developed the ability to produce toxins. In exchange for smaller tusks compared to those of its brethren, it can overwhelm opponents with the toxic sludge that leaks out of its body.
Hadal Gobul:
A giant Gobul Variant, actually a fully grown Gobul having surfaced after many years in the deep sea. Although slow, it throws its massive size and weight around to devastating effect.
Thundercrack Lagiacrus:
A lesser-known Lagiacrus Subspecies who’s electricity is rather contained and not used for in battle. Instead, it fights in close quarters and uses the defeating booms of thunder created by its electricity to fight opponents.
Whiptail Najarala:
A Najarala “Subspecies” believed to have come first that other Najarala later descended from. It lacks detachable scales and instead fights using its muscular body and armoured tail.
Morningstar Volvidon:
A Volvidon Subspecies who’s armour-plating is as tough as the strongest metal. Lacking an extendable tongue and being somewhat slower than its cousin, it makes up for these disadvantages with increased strength and retractable spikes.
Boiling Ludroth:
A Ludroth Subspecies known to make its nests near sources of heat such as geothermal vents or seaside volcanoes. It stores boiling hot water inside its mane, keeping it heated during deep dives and scalding its prey or opponents.
Broodmistress Gigginox:
One in every 300 Gigginox has the genetic trait allowing them to grow into this Variant, which kicks their breeding process into overdrive. She commands her Giggi underlings as a slow but ravenous swarm and becomes a near-unchallenged queen of her icy domain.
Volcanic Duramboros:
A Duramboros Subspecies living primarily in volcanoes but ventures elsewhere in search of food. It can expel a lava-like substance from the humps on its back, which is especially deadly when partnered with its trademark spinning.
Scavenger Kulu-Ya-Ku:
A Kulu-Ya-Ku Subspecies that has adopted a largely carnivorous diet and gets the majority of its sustenance scavenging the previous meals of larger monsters. It stores skulls and other bones around its territory for later use as tools or weapons.
Pond Plesioth:
A Plesioth subspecies that soley inhabits sources of inland freshwater. It is relatively minuscule when compared to its larger cousins and is much less cumbersome when on land.
Obsidian Shen Gaoren:
A smaller black-carapaced Shen Gaoren Subspecies that uses the skull of a Gogmazios as its shell. More aggressive than normal Shen Gaoren, it is capable of ejecting lava from its abdomen
Prime Deviljho:
The polar opposite of Savage Deviljho, the mutation that results in this Variant has finally satiated its never-ending hunger. It is now more careful and planning with its attacks rather than recklessly throwing itself about, and has a myriad of Dragon Element techniques.
Icefist Rajang:
A Rajang Variant that has evolved to hunt Oroshi Kirin rather than the usual Kirin. It exchanges electrical blasts for those of a more chilling variety and instead of hardening the muscles in its arms, it covers them in spiked ice.
Impact Bazelgeuse:
This “Subspecies” is actually just an very aged Bazelgeuse specimen, it’s flames having extinguished as it edges closer to the end of its life. It rains down its now non-explosive scales as blunt weapons to crush opponents or prey.
Draconic Kirin:
A strange dual-horned golden Kirin Subspecies, wielding vast amounts of Dragon Element rather than electricity or ice. A larger body also means they more prone to physical combat.
Shining Kushala Daora:
An extremely rare Kushala Daora Variant, the result of a mutation that prevents the Dragon’s skin from hardening properly. Glistening white and vulnerably soft as if freshly molted, they have mastered their wind techniques in exchange for a tendency to avoid physical attacks or going airborne.
Sulphuric Namielle:
A Namielle Subspecies that has managed to acidify the water it produces at the cost of reducing its conductivity. It now constantly stores electricity inside its body rather than continuously releasing it, expelling it in giant bursts at select moments.
Smokescreen Valstrax:
A Valstrax Variant, the result of an individual surviving previous damage to its wings and chest. It now produces large amounts of exhaust, but is still capable of flight and uses the “Dragon Smoke” to obscure its movements.
Yama Ryusi:
A stone-clad Yama Tsukami Subspecies that lives in mountainous environments with a more geovorous diet. It uses its rocky armor to crush and squish anything that stands against it.
Sandstorm Amatsu:
An Amatsu Subspecies that is found out in the open desert, residing in the sandstorms its winds create. Lacking the water beams of its counterpart, it instead expels concentrated bursts of sand.
Apocalyptic Safi’jiiva:
A Safi’jiiva Deviant, theorised to be capable of wiping out nearly all life on the planet if left unchecked. It has absorbed the bioenergy a multitude of Elder Dragons, including both an Alatreon and a Fatalis, which results in every expulsion of power from its body being akin to a miniature apocalypse.

Lambert’s weird bicep armor
Tumblr media
Yes, I’m talking about the jutting half-circle steel plates. To my knowledge, we don’t see any other characters with this kind of armor. (Please correct me if I’m wrong!) If characters want the “keep this far away at all times” effect, they tend to have spikes, like Eskel. However, thinking from a Watsonian perspective, there have to have been reasons for Lambert to consider this design!
Possibility #1: Practicality
This is armor made by someone who had a monster claw rake through his muscles from shoulder to elbow and thought, “Fuck that. Never again.” Because you know what’s hard to do when you’re healing from a massive arm injury? Everything, that’s what. (Or that’s what it feels like to Lambert while he’s waiting to be able to move his arms without wanting to shout.)
That part of Lambert’s armor has a bit of a DIY look to it and I can just picture him designing and crafting it himself. Problem, meet Solution.
Protection bonus: Lambert can raise his arms up to guard his neck or other vulnerable spots so that a blade or claw will glance off the plates.
Novelty bonus: because the plates don’t work like a shield or like a lot of other armor, Lambert’s probably figured out how to use them in disruptive or unexpected ways when faced with human combatants.
Offense bonus: in more of a tavern brawl situation, when Lambert’s hurling himself shoulder-first towards an apponent, all of that force is going to be distributed through the thin edge of those plates instead of partly dissipating through Lambert’s arm at the point of impact. Ouch. There are probably people with parallel rounded bruises or scars out there on the Continent. (I imagine the marks look like a smile.)
Possibility #2: Handy flat surface, good for tying things to
Sometimes you just want to put something down somewhere for a moment, but people might try to take your stuff, so you’re not going to just put it on the table to get messed with. Or possibly, on the Path, your hands are temporarily busy with something else.
Lambert’s shoulder plate of choice has held food, a long strip of bandages, his horse’s reins, a bag full of herbs, a monster trophy, etc.
Geralt and Eskel try to rest their mugs of white gull on there whenever they get drunk enough for it to seem like a good idea. This inevitably ends with them wearing it when Lambert ‘accidentally’ moves in the wrong direction.
Possibility #3: Teamwork Maneuvers
Ciri:
Someone who was, say, Ciri-sized, might look at those half-plates and think, “Perfect,” and then attempt to use Lambert’s arms as a launch pad towards better and higher places in Kaer Morhen. Those rafters. That window ledge. That training tool she’s not supposed to get into yet.
Those plates are made to be toe-holds. And those rivets in between? The kind of rough surface that makes it easy to get a good grip. That’s three possible surfaces for Ciri to aim for, or sometimes to scrabble for if she misses her target on her first jump. Sometimes she ends up clinging monkey-like to Lambert’s arm, her hands locked around one plate and her ankles crossed around his elbow.
There’s always second chances, is the point, always another ledge to look for.
Lambert is one of Ciri’s trainers, and the shoulder-plate acrobatics are great for developing her agility and giving her a sense of confidence in exploring her environment. Lambert isn’t always going to catch her, because sometimes falls can be instructive, but he’ll always give her a leg an arm up when she asks for it.
Aiden:
Someone who was, say, trained by the School of the Cat, might look at those half-plates and think, “Perfect,” and then attempt to use Lambert’s arms as a lauch pad towards better and higher monsters.
Is it maybe a surprise the first time? Yes. Are there immediate advantages? Also yes.
Try to catch that death from above while Lambert’s coming at you from below with a sword, monster-of-the-week. Hunting just got taken to the next level. This teamwork thing is going to fuck you right up.
Lambert makes sure his leather seams and plate joins are reinforced bc Aiden weighs a bit more than certain adolescent princesses. After that, even when they’re in the flattest wheat field, Aiden has a safe place to jump from. Or jump to, in the case of needing a hasty exfil.
TL;DR
Those plates keep Lambert’s arms safe, and they have defensive and offensive functions for people and creatures that Lambert’s fighting. For the people Lambert cares about, they’re just another way that Lambert shows his reliability.

Journey to Bosworth, conclusion. Why did Richard III lose?
Before starting, I have to say that this is my personal opinion. For me, this is why the last Plantagenet king falled. As you will see, I do not consider that it was the most probable outcome, far from it.
At Bosworth, Richard III lost while he had more men, more support and was an experienced commander with experienced lieutenants
Many argued that he lost because he was sold out by the magnates. After all, Northumberland and Lord Stanley didn't move to help him, and Sir William Stanley 'betrayed' him.
This explanation is helpful but reductive and simplistic. Betrayal was very common in the War of the Roses. Richard III had witnessed it all his life. In 1459, while Richard was seven years old, his father fled to Ireland because one of his lieutenants had defected to Henry VI. He saw his father's castle in Ludlow be stormed out by Lancastrians. Richard III also saw his closest ally, the duke of Buckingham, turn on him for little reason in 1483. He was used to it. Stanley and Northumberland's defection was utterly predictable Richard III knew that Northumberland intentionally brought as little troops as he could and Richard put so little faith toward lord Stanley that he took hostage his heir (a maneuver which did work at buying his neutrality).
As for Sir William Stanley's decisive defection, it wasn't even a surprise. Richard III branded him a traitor a few weeks before. He acted accordingly. Nor did Richard III lacked information about his enemies. Henry Tudor was openly his rival since the beginning of his reign. His chief commander, John de Vere, was known from Richard. He fought against him at Barnet, stole his lands, and tried to have him executed in 1484. He also knew that the french disliked him as well as he disliked them. Their investment in the Tudor cause is hardly surprising.
To sum it up: there was little asymmetry of information between Richard III and his rivals. Richard knew his friends, knew who wasn't reliable, and knew his enemies. True, he didn't know some key information such as where would Henry Tudor would land, just as some minor defections came out as a bitter surprise. Seeing Rhys ap Thomas defect to the Tudors after he pensioned him 10 marks a year was an unwelcome surprise, but hardly a fatal one.
Few contemporaries thought that Henry Tudor would actually win (partly because they didn't know the intentions of some key magnates). There are many examples of that. In 1484, Queen Elizabeth Woodville accepted to quit her sanctuary and made peace with her (alleged) brother-in-law in exchange for a correct treatment of her daughters. She did hand some of her daughters to him. Her brother Richard Woodville did make his peace with Richard III, and her son the Marquess of Dorset also attempted to run from France to make his personal peace before being stopped by the Tudors. Pierre Landais tried to sold-out Henry Tudor to Richard III in 1484, showing how little faith he had in a Tudor victory. After Henry landed and marched from Wales toward England, the city of Swhresbury obstinately refused to let him pass, fearing Richard's wrath (and possible lawlessness). Only Sir William Stanley's intervention would convince them.
In no way Henry Tudor had massive support. From his landing to the battle of Bosworth, defections to his side were few. Rhys ap Thomas, Sir John Savage, Sir Gilbert Talbot, and lesser noteworthy welsh were all local figures. Compared to the 1483 rebellion (ill-named Buckingham's rebellion) in which three different areas revolted with some major rebellious figures such as the duke of Buckingham, Sir Thomas Saint-Leger, and the Wydevilles, the defections during the invasion look marginal. Especially when one considers that Henry Tudor landed in Wales because he thought he had support there, and conversely Richard III had little.
Henry Tudor had little chance of winning. He tried because no compromise was possible with Richard III, who showed often his ruthlessness. Most of the surviving rebels in 1483 had joined Henry in exile and pressed him to act. Their lands were already forfeited and distributed to Richard's supporters, and only Richard's death could vindicate and restore their wealth completely. As Henry Tudor knew in the Britton court, foreign support to English pretenders was erratic and highly conjunctural at best. The Brittons supported him in 1483, and a court faction attempted to sell him out the very next year. So, when France proposed limited financial and military support during the summer of 1485, he couldn't hesitate. It was his best shot.
Richard III on the reverse had real reasons to quiet himself and be confident in his victory. Why he most certainly wasn't might be due to private reasons. His wife and son died during his brief reign. This might have awakened a sense of insecurity. At its core, Richard might have felt insecure about his legitimacy. He had parliamentary approval of his regal title with Titus Regulus, he had been sacred and anointed but was he legitimate? The allegation of bastardy toward his nephews was based on oral claims, which was weak evidence at best.
The best proof of his legitimacy, and that God approved his reign was a battle. A winning battle would re-assert his reputation as a martial ruler, and more importantly, showed that God favored his claim in an ordeal by combat. In a martial, zealously religious society, a battle would be the final seal of his legitimacy, just as his brother, who reasserted his claim during numerous victorious battles. This was a fitting narrative for him. He was one of the best English military commanders alive, with an undeniably good military record. He could surely win against a nobody with no military experience. His spiteful royal denunciation of Henry Tudor in 1484 might be evidence that Richard III viewed the Tudor challenge as highly personal. Henry itself was the threat, more than those that supported him or were propping him up. During Buckingham's rebellion, Richard III didn't fight despite rushing to the south where the rebels were. The Howards and Sir Humphrey Stafford put down the rebellion without him. And Henry Tudor could flee. So Richard III had a practical and a theological/theoretical reason to force combat between his and the Tudor. Reasserting and confirming his legitimacy was one, and making sure that Henry Tudor would cause no more trouble was the other.
A decay in mental health is also possible from Richard III. He was a man who was highly confident in his skills and his worth. However, the atmosphere of betrayal and the loss of his family in the last few years did pull a tool on him. His legendary 'bad dream' on the eve of Bosworth was the most remarkable example of that. So when the rebel army did come in England, Richard III rushed toward them. He had reinforcement still coming on the day of the battle. York men were on their way and more forces certainly were coming from elsewhere. Time was on his side. He rushed toward the enemy perhaps because, in a spike of paranoia, he didn't want more defections and more betrayal, or because he wanted to put an end to it. What if the rebels fled at the sight of his numerically larger army, like his father at Ludlow? He didn't want that, he didn't want to endure a decade-long pretender like Edward IV would endure with Henry VI or Henry Tudor with 'Richard' (Perkin Warbeck)
When Northumberland refused to support Howard against Oxford, it didn't matter for Richard III. He knew Northumberland's opportunism. Catesby proposed to retreat like his father at Ludlow, like his brother when key magnates turned on him in 1470. He refused. Richard III simply couldn't admit his defeat on the battlefield, even as a temporary setback. His desire for legitimacy, his pride forbid it. He told so to Diego de Valera, the Spanish Ambassador, who reported it to his masters about the battle: "Now when Salazar, your little vassal, who was there in King Richard's service, saw the treason of the king's people, he went up to him and said: 'Sire, take steps to put your person in safety without expecting to have the victory in today's battle, owing to the manifest treason in your following.' But the King replied: 'Salazar, God forbid I yield one step. This day I will die as King or win'. "
At the battle, he wanted personal physical contact. He wanted to perform the deed of a knight, personally slain the Tudor dragon. He was a proud man of action, and couldn't let Howard once again defeat the core of the rebels while he was on the fence. Hence his fateful charge. This decision, more than any other, was fatal.
Richard III wanted Bosworth, Richard III made Bosworth. He accepted every odds. He accepted the disloyalty of Northumberland instead of assuming its consequences and retreat to reorganize. He ignored Sir William Stanley on his rear when he charged because he wanted to stick to his narrative. He was supremely confident in his skills and his capacity to slain Henry Tudor before Stanley could destroy him. And he was too insecure and proud to run. Run would be admitting his illegitimacy.
In other words, Richard III never admitted retreat as an option. Richard III also desperately wanted personal challenges. It is no coincidence that the last Plantagenet was both the last English king to die in battle and the only one to do so since the dawn of the Norman era.
When Richard III, in his last instants, shout 'treason' it was partly because Sir William Stanley's betrayal was relatively fresh in his mind, and to him, it was an English subject killing their king. It might have also been a way to cope. He was losing, he couldn't perform his martial ability in a winning way. Putting his failure on betrayal and a rigged battle was simply a way to cope
In conclusion, Richard III consciously and unconsciously shut down options that didn't fit his preferred narrative. This dysfunctional decision-making was partly created from his personal identity and value, and partly due to his society's views. This makes us understand why he chooses options that didn't favor his self-preservation and why he didn't retreat or acted differently. And it destroyed him.

A Spider Life: Webbed Thoughts (Chapter 02)
Setting up some HCs for the future, as well as giving some insight to our favorite scientist spider.
---
Taking place during “Revenge of the Spider Queen”, pretty much at the end of it.
With the Arachnoid Base gone and the town mostly in shambles due to the massive explosion, the Spider Demons were scattered all around town. Syntax takes it upon himself to find the other two, while wandering foreign, yet familiar streets. (Wordcount: around 1800)
---
Having almost all of his Spiderbots deactivated, was a huge setback for certain. It’ll take days to reconfigure them, and who even knew if they had enough of the special venom to get back to the count they had previously. It was near impossible to draw any numbers if the extent of the destruction was still unknown to him.
At least, there were a few things that survived. For one, the Spiderbot on his back. The cool metal resting comfortable against his spine, while the robot was feeding him a constant flow of information from the remaining units. It was a soft background buzz, a reminder that he was indeed part of this clan. The other ‘survivor’ being the head of their Arachnoid Base, certainly the most complex part of the mech. Given some time and work, he was certain he could rebuild it.
Syntax’s mouth drew into a hard line, reminiscing the events of the last few hours. It looked like the Queen… no, his Queen, had everything under control. The so-called-heroes caught, powerless against her might. The scientist had redrawn himself to continue working. Just because the battle was already won, didn’t meant there were no projects to finish up and to maintain. There were victory celebrations to be had afterall, and nobody else took it up to plan those. Syntax only had noticed the earth rumble above him when everything went down, and a moment later he had to witness his Queen on the ground, defeated. He wisely decided not to become a potential target of her fury, and excused himself to immediately go back to work.
As much as he hated to admit it, he really had to find the other two. For the sole reason to move the Arachnoid Base head back underground into the lair, of course. The remaining Spiderbots were not enough to stem this feat and he did not even have a fraction of the required strength to do it by himself. He would not allow his Queen to do any of this work, even if she was more than capable of moving the apparatus. No, if he could do something against it, he will not let the lady steep any lower, she was supposed to rest.
Goliath and Huntsman.
The scientist inhaled in trough the nose and let out a mildly annoyed sigh. The very moment these two had awaken, he was able to feel their gazes constantly lingering on him. Moreso from the hunter than the strong spider. Actually, it was a little surprising that the big one was… rather gentle in a way. Goliath barely ever spoke, and seemed content to just be part of whatever was going on. Doing what he was told to do, he certainly was the more reasonable compared to the gnarly spider that was Huntsman.
The older spider had made it apparently his goal to infuriate Syntax in any way possible. Always trying to shove himself in the spotlight when the scientist wanted to inform his Queen, always throwing little nitpicks and snarky remarks here and there – and by far the most annoying thing; always wrinkling his nose when he came too close to Syntax. ‘Close’ of course being several feet away, there was no way he’d allow that pelt wearing asshole anywhere near himself. More an unconcious act while having this trail of thought, Syntax lifted his wrist to his own nose, trying to catch any scent. He couldn’t detect anything odd, just metal, cold earth and the faintly sweet fragrance of his lady’s venom. Huntsman certainly was only doing this to irritate him. And frustratingly enough, it was slowly getting to him.
The scientist scoffed, looking up to check his surroundings. He was in the middle of a street, in some part of the city that didn’t get completely leveled during the fight. Some signs and advertisement screens still flickered with life, hanging in there with all might. The occasional spark and the scuttling of a critter were all the noises he could hear otherwise. Remarkable how fast the local population was able to evacuate from their homes once the Spider Demons had attacked. Something in the back of his brain clawed to the surface, images of a giant bull stomping and blasting entire blocks away. Having to leave ‘someplace important’ to be safe. A taste of bitterness of potentially losing all ‘progress’.
Progress of what? Syntax halted in his steps for a moment, trying to make sense of this rabid influx of images and emotions that… were his? Weren’t his? He could, for the life of his, not consciously remember any of what his mind was spouting out. It didn’t take long for the buzzing of the Spiderbot and the soothing warmth of the venom to calm his nerves again. What was he thinking about again? The scientist unchlenched his teeth, uncurling his fists. There was no apparent reason to be tense. With a shake of his head, Syntax continued down the streets.
He didn’t even question it that he could navigate throughout the city without a second guess. Somewhere in the far back of his mind, there was a subtle note that any corner he passed, and any road sign he read was completely new information. Yet he could feel it in his fingertips that he had seen these places before.
...most certainly the marvel of the Spiderbots, always here to bring him up to date! At a crossroad, his gaze subconsciously wandered down to his right, the word ‘Work’ coming to his mind. But before he could delve anymore on this random fact, a red flash signaled the scientist that he was close to his target. Completely ignoring the jumbled webbing of his mind, that tried to lure him somewhere, he turned to his left and followed the call of the machines.
It didn’t take long to find the hulking figure of Goliath. The strong spider was not within the crater that was left when crashing into the concrete, but instead was sitting a little to the side. Remarkable, that the guy barely had a scratch, Syntax wasn’t sure if he could shake off such an impact as easily. Goliath was looking somewhat exhausted, and for the first time since he knew him, mildly annoyed. It was clear that the henchman was already aware what must have had happen after he got blasted into the sky, the destroyed mech could not be overlooked easily. Though when he noticed the scientist approaching, his features softened, brows slightly raised in a silent question. For someone who could easily be one of the most intimidating creatures Syntax knew about (he didn’t knew many, DBK was certainly on this list though), he surely often made an expression like a lost puppy. In a way, it was endearing, giving this giant an aura he could relax in, at least somewhat.
Syntax looked around, searching for a second crater. Without needing to raise the question, Goliath shook his head. “He ain’t here, think he fell somewhere further to the east.”, a silent groan escaped the big guy as he got up, stretching his arms a little and dusting off some dirt. “Shall we?”
The scientist just nodded, stuffing hands in pockets and following the other’s lead. Finding himself mulling over threads of thoughts again as he watched the large back of the spider demon. In a way, it was… fascinating, how different they all were. Goliath, clearly strong and powerful, didn’t seem to make much use out of venom and webs. He was capable of both, no question, but either his mastery in these skills weren’t the greatest, or he simply didn’t want to use either for whatever reason. Syntax put a pin into that, maybe a question for another day.
Now Huntsman was almost the opposite. Even if he didn’t like to admit it, Syntax had to give tribute where it was due. The older spider’s ability of web manipulation was astounding, and maybe there was more to the hunter than one would give him credit for. He obviously was a traditional kind of guy, annoyingly so, but he still had picked up on Syntax’s gadgets and tools surprisingly quick. It did not take him more than a hour to figure out the spider trackers and the communication earbuds, he even had taken an animated liking over the tech-heavy binoculars that fed him instant information about anything he looked at. Of course, he immediately claimed that he would not need any of these, that his natural skills were enough. To no one’s surprise, Syntax noticed that said gadgets had mysteriously disappeared an hour later. He was smart enough to not bring this topic up.
Now the Queen… Syntax hummed contently as the Spiderbot buzzed in approvement. She was the Queen of Spiders for obvious reasons. While Goliath and Huntsman seemed to have specialized in one thing, the lady was quite powerful in all aspects. Her webs were strong and could be enchanted with all kinds of abilities. They were able to trap the Demon Bull King, and even the supposedly all-mighty Monkey King! That alone was a feat in itself. Syntax had noted with great pleasure that his lady was quite well versed in technology too, and up-to-date with society, in opposite to the other two. The giant spider bot that was basically just an extension of her true might? Her own creation! And don’t even get him started on her powerful venom! It had endless potential as both a power source and as an ingredient for mixtures and magics yet to be discovered.
And he, Syntax himself? For a moment, the scientist stopped in his track. He had his smarts and knowledge for sure. Basically a library of all things technology within his noggin. And his Queen already made it clear that he was an important part in all of her plans. Venom, webbing, physical strength on the other hand… The claws on his back twitched slightly agitated, a sudden spike of an incoming migrain stopping all tracks of thoughts. When Syntax looked forwards again, he could see that Goliath was glancing at him with mild worry, patiently waiting to continue their way to find the gnarly spider. The scientist shook his head, reminding himself that he was part of this clan, there was no place in doubting his Queen.
In comfortable silence, the two walked down the empty streets, neither feeling any need of smalltalk. As ironic and bitter as it was, Syntax found himself in a moment of peace, just a moment he could relax his shoulders and sort the rest of his thoughts calmly. Things certainly were going to get tense again once they picked up Huntsman, that fact was clear. The Spider Demons had a lot of tasks ahead of them as well, going off by the words of the little Miss Mystery. Not something he was particularly looking forward for, but serving his Queen was his sole purpose. And nothing will distract him from that.

Humans are Space Orcs, “The Prodigum”
Some of you have been asking about this species, so surprise! Story arc!
The darkness around them was hot and stifling. Their breath had leached the freshness out of the crate hours ago leaving them sitting in a stale muggy darkness. Sunny shifted in the near darkness struggling to see with the single beam of meager light which filtered in from above.
Adam lay in her arms blacked out completely.
She let his upper body rest gently in her lower arms, while her upper arms searched through his blond hair --matted with dried blood-- and across his scalp. She swore she was going to kill the person who did this to him. Didn’t they know what a knock in the head could do to a human? Didn’t they understand what a concussion meant?
He needed a doctor, he needed Krill, but the little physician wasn’t with them now.
He was back on the Tesraki home planet with the ship.
And they were… well Sunny had no idea where they were. It had all happened so fast, one moment they were walking through the streets going through market vendor stalls and laughing about something stupid, and the next moment Adam was lying unconscious on the ground and her head was inside a bag.
She would have fought, but they threatened to hurt Adam if she did.
Perhaps if it had been some other person she might have taken that chance, but she wasn’t nearly willing enough to risk Adam for her own perceived vanity..
After the attack, they had quickly been carted off across the city and loaded into this crate. She had heard the sound of the docks and the roaring of engines. She had sat in here for hours as the ship passed in and then out of warp.
Wherever they were, they were miles away from home, with no one to come and same them.
And Adam was injured, likely concussed.
Worst of all is that she couldn’t even see his eyes to check and make sure if he was ok or not. His breathing was relatively even, a slow expansion of his chest and ribs over and over and over again.
She adjusted herself groaning softly as she attempted to stretch out her legs. Adam’s body was dead weight in her hands as she moved him pulling him further onto her lap to where she could hold him with her right set of arms while examining his wound with the other two.
His head rested against her shoulder breath hot on her neck.
Good she could make sure he was still alive that way.
The engine thrummed.
She had tried to break out of the box first thing of course, but that action had proven to be fruitless as had screaming. The engine was much too loud. She had, of course, tried engineering her way out of the box but without tools space and with Adam’s dead weight to work around that had also been a fruitless option.
So she sat in the dark and waited.
She was beginning to worry that Adam would never wake up when he finally began to stir.
Sunny sighed a deep sigh of relief.
“Adam. Adam, are you ok, can you hear me.”
For a horrible moment there was no answer, but then a groggy, “Sunny…. Where are we…. Why can’t I see.”
A hint of panic crept into his voice.
“Shh, you’re ok we are just stuck in a crate, that’s all.”
“Oh that's good,” He paused, “Never thought I would say that about being stuck in a crate.” She sighed again in relief glad to see that he was at least lucid and understood what was happening, “Now hold on, what happened, and why do I have such a raging headache.”
She shifted slightly in her space as he adjusted himself.
The crate was small, so there wasn’t really anywhere for him to go,so he just ended up resting more securely against her chest head resting on her chest plate her lower arms wrapped around him to keep him in place.
“We were attacked, you were knocked out and I was threatened.”
“And you didn’t screw them up?”
“They were threatening to kill you. I only had so many options.”
He grunted, and in the dark he sighed turning his head so his cheek was brushing up against her, “This has been a shit day.”
That made her laugh. Leave it to Adam to make her laugh when their lives were in danger.
Nothing Much they could do about the situation now, and they remained in darkness curled up together under the roaring of the engine.
Both of them felt it when the ship came into atmosphere, growing more and more nervous as they felt their crate being shifted and moved. Their little sliver of light was completely gone now leaving them in complete darkness as they were jostled and jolted around inside the crate. Then there came voices, tesraki Drev, burg, and another voice which was far less familiar to sunny than any of the others
She felt adam go still in her arms.
“What she whispered,”
“Prodigum.” He hissed the sharp crack of the spat word hissing through the darkness’
Prodigum? Sunny didn’t know much about that species. The only thing she knew for sure is that they had withdrawn from peace talks with the GA and were an outside entity. She knew they occasionally traded with the GA and that Adam had had some run-ins with them. Run-ins that gave him a serious hatred for their kind which was uncharacteristic for his usual forgiving nature.
The crate jolted and rocked.
A distant thrumming filled the background, the lull of conversation, and then it went silent again.
The box jolted downwards.
“Here master, just as you requested.” “I assume you got a good specimen.”
Adam and Sunny leaned up against the walls of their crate trying to determine who or what was speaking.
“You will be most pleased with us master. Got you a real fine specimen we did, worth well over the asking prices. Will be the most exotic peace to your collection for sure.”
There was a low sort of guttural rumble from the outside of the crate.
“I will be the judge of that. Open the crate.”
There was some shuffling for a moment, a sharp snap and the sides of the box fell away. Sunny and Adam were forced to raise their hands against the light as bright purple and blue light assailed them from all directions. They blinked past the shade cast by their hands.
The room they stood in was strange.
They got the feeling that the open space was supposed to be some kind of meeting space or gathering room.
Perhaps even some sort of entertainment room with how large it was, two floors connected by wide arching ramps up either side of the wide room. The floor below them was a purplish sort of grey made even more so by the blue and purple lights from above.
Adam turned his head in a wide arc his head raised towards the ceiling. Sunny followed his gaze , and was immediately horrified.
Overhead at least twenty cages had been suspended from the ceiling. Though most of them were either empty, three others were occupied.
Two sick, mournful looking humans and a bleached white skeleton.
“The fuck.”
Adam turned his head eyes narrowing towards the group that stood around them, and Sunny got her first good look at the prodigum.
She was not pleased with what she saw.
The creature was big, maybe a little taller than her.
It had a body sort of like a gorilla if gorillas were absolutely hideous in every way. Its back legs were short and stumpy, just one massive fleshy mass holding up their incredible bulk. They had no neck to speak of, and their arms were absolutely massive jutting ninety degrees from their shoulders and then ninety degrees again at the elbow. IF you were to have stretched out one of their arms it would almost have been one two thirds times as tall as their own bodies.
Each arm was thicker than a man’s waist, and instead of hands it had one long pointy spike.
When they walked they walked on their wrists as if a human were to go to walk on their knuckles but have their wrist buckle leaving the spike to point back and up.
Its body was covered in an immense and pendulous collection of baggy folds which swung heavily from side to side as it moved.
there was no neck, and its large face was droopy, its horrific mouth a grotesque sagging heap like a child was trying to melt a playdough smiley face in the microwave.
With two sets of eyes on either side of it’s grotesque head and the numbers spaghetti like protrusions, which dangled from its throat -- writhing to and fro while also acting as the creature’s hands -- it was a grotesque and monstrous sight.
Sunny made a face.
Adam grunted, “Disgusting.”
“And the Drev?”
“Consider her a bonus.”
The big ugly creature grunted, expelling a burst of air from the two breathing tubes which sagged from either side of its neck, their ends opening and closing like the blowholes of a whale.
Adam shifted and stood unsteadily against Sunny’s protests gripping the bars with white knuckled hands.
“You have no idea what you have just started, ugly.”
The prodigum laughed, through it came out as wet gurgling snorts from it’s breathing tubes, “Oh I know exactly what I have started, Commander Vir.”
Adam stepped back in shock, nearly tripping over Sunny in their tight confines.
The prodigum leaned in close to the cage the little spaghetti-like tentacles waving before the bars curling uncurling or wrapping themselves around cold steel.
Adam made a face.
“In fact, it was your presence which I requested personally.” He turned in his spot to look at the room around him, which sunny was becoming to understand was far larger than she had originally assumed.“I have many wealthy clients who don’t settle for just anyone, commander. Your prestige will be a great selling point.”
“What even is this place?”
“Many things, many things. It is a place of business, a place of frivolity, and a place where humans do what they are told.” His voice grew low and quiet. One of his large spiked arms raised off the floor somewhat. The Spike brandished.
“And what exactly do you expect me to do for you?” He asked crossing his arms over his chest.
“Why, the only thing humans are good for. I want you to sing.”
This time both Adam and Sunny were dumbstruck, “You want me to,what now?”
“Sing, Commander. You do know what singing is, don’t you.’
Adam shook his head, “you have got to be fucking kidding me. That’s it, that's why you kidnapped one of the most --not to brag or anything-- powerful men  in the GA. The guy with the firepower of an entire human fleet behind him, and you brought me here to be your cage canary. To sing you little songs.”
The prodigum  grunted, “That is precisely what I expect you to do, commander.”
Adam proceeded to laugh in his face,“You have got to be kidding me. Not only is this possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard of just in principle, but it is ALSO dumb because there are thousands of humans out there who can sing better than me. Sure I can carry a tune, but I’m not Freddie mercury.”
The prodigum was not looking as bothered by the comments as he probably should have been. In fact, he almost seemed amused, “This is not about your ABILITY to sing commander. Most nonhumans can’t actually tell the difference between good and bad singing, they simply know it is something they cannot do. No, I didn’t bring you here for your skill, I brought you here because of your importance. When my clients see you, they are going to understand what you represent….. And that is my complete and total control, my absolute impunity when it comes to the law, and my ability to do whatever I want. You are a symbol of my power.”
“Yeah, and you can suck a bag of dicks.”
The prodigum leaned closer, “You will do what I want you to do.”
A group of tentacles wriggled through the bars waving before their faces. Sunny saw it coming way before the prodigum did, though he definitely should have seen it. The way the human’s body tensed up, the way he grew still, the way his eyes drew to laser focus, the way that his knees bent and his hands curled at his sides.
And then he struck.
Like a cobra.
With one hand he reached out wrapping his fingers around a handful of the nasty wriggling tentacles before yanking hard.
The prodigum screamed.
Sunny lunged forward to help all four of her arms shooting through the bars as Adam dug his fingers into the writhing tentacles.
There was an eruption of movement.
Adam craned his neck downwards mouth open teeth poised to strike.
Everyone knew what a human bite meant.
And then there was an eruption of pain. Lightning coursed across her vision and sunny found herself on the ground legs twitching. She heard Adam yell screaming through his teeth.
And then a dull thud.
The pain went away.
She looked over to find Adam sagging against the bars of the cage.
The prodigum had retreated with his posse surrounding him..
He mewled with pain, a few of his face tentacles dripping blue onto the floor, others hanging limp and unusable.
The human began to laugh despite the pain of the electric shock, “Fuck-you.”
With anger in his expression, the prodigum looked up, “Secure the Drev.”
Sunny struggled to her feet as both her and Adam realized what was happening.
Sunny yelled for Adam to duck, but he was to late, a loop slipped over his neck tightening and pulling him against the side of the cage. He choked and gasped trying to force his fingers under the loop kicking and struggling as The door was thrown open and Sunny was electrocuted again before a group of others piled atop her securing her arms and dragging her form the cage, which was then shut.
Adam was let go staggering to his knees hands clenched around his throat.
He choked and gasped.
“I am going to make this very clear for you human.” Sunny was hauled upwards by the back of her carapace and suspended in the air.
“Do what I wish, or the Drev dies.’
Sunny struggled against their arms looking back towards the cage where Adam knelt.
She wished he would tell them to go to hell, but she could see almost immediately by the expression on his face and the pain in his single green eye that the prodigum had done it.
He had found Adam’s weakness.
He had found humanity’s greatest trait and their greatest weakness.
Their loyalty.
And now they were in his power.

How To Make Money With YouTube
Tumblr media
YouTube has transformed video publication into a lucrative business and a powerful tool for promoting your business or service internationally. It has grown in popularity as the cost of high-quality video recording has decreased.
Nowadays, all you need is a quality standalone camera or a nice smartphone to capture footage that rivals high-budget productions. It's all about originality and a compelling viewpoint for eliciting an emotional response from your potential audience.

The Establishment
Before you start seeing yourself as the next Danny Boyle, it's a good idea to consider the type of video you want to create. Are you wanting to earn money directly from your video, or are you looking to utilize it to promote engagement? Occasionally, it is common to do so for both of these reasons. The sort of material you publish on YouTube is determined by what and why you record and share.
In terms of direct or indirect revenue generated by your video, it's obvious that the number of views and shares your video may generate is the metric of success. So, what causes virality? We can never truly anticipate what will happen, but we can make some educated predictions based on historical tendencies. Even if your video does not become a global sensation, you may still earn money from your camera and a little more money for your trouble.
The Distribution
Depending on the purpose of the video, you can generate interest by delivering information authoritatively in order to keep the audience informed or inquisitive, and by including other clips that connect to your subject as necessary. If you choose the lighthearted informal approach, it is critical that your video be both engaging and humorous while still being relevant to your line of business.
To increase your watching statistics, use useful tutorials or 'how-to's delivered with a tongue-in-cheek tone. Humour is always an excellent perspective to take. There are several free video editing programs that may help you produce attractive visuals for your clip. Text sliders and integrated music are also easier to design and add than you would believe. A well-produced videoed viewpoint works effectively for direct sales or marketing.
The road forward is short, acute, and swift. Bear in mind that internet viewers have a relatively limited attention span. You have the first eight seconds to captivate the viewer's attention. Begin with a bang and keep interested by removing any superfluous material.
Sell! Sell! Sell!
If you sell a product or service, it's worthwhile to collect client testimonials for inclusion on your website. It surpasses text testimonials in that anybody can create a fake one in a couple of seconds. This will not only improve your YouTube presence, but it will also provide material for your other endeavor - a video advertisement!
If you're launching a new product or service, you may create an instructional video to accompany it, therefore promoting both your business and your new device. Publishers and authors do this frequently. Provide valuable information on the issue to which your product relates. Inform your visitors on topics they don't know and then present your goods without being too pushy.
The $1 shaving club clip is still the gold standard for all trade-related YouTube videos. Michael Dubin achieved over 5 million views and massive volume sales of $1.00 shaving sticks for a total cost of $3,000 plus several unemployed staff employees.
It demonstrates the power of imagination in spreading a message virally. He amassed a sizable watching audience, but achieving a 3% global sales conversion rate is nothing short of brilliance. Take a look at the Dollar Shave Club smash.
Create a humorous video ad displaying your business culture or a typical client experience as an excellent starting point. To convert one viewer into ten or twenty, showing footage of your bustling work environment, processing orders, or showcasing the advantages of your business would require entertainment or shock.

An excellent video is only effective if it elicits a single viewer's response or engagement. However, in order to go viral, the video must be humorous, provocative, or extremely instructive. What you want is for your audience to share your video on social media. That is the actual definition of a viral assault, which is disseminated by people who are infected. We'd suggest that traffic generated by controversy be left to experienced marketers or those looking for nothing more than a large number of visitors. It may have unfavorable consequences.
For people new to YouTube, it's generally best to just be yourself. Make certain to highlight your unique selling proposition. As alluring as it may be to hire a gorgeous blonde as your spokeswoman, this strategy almost always works against you; instead, get some genuine individuals in front of the camera and demonstrate to your consumers that you can be trusted.
Successful films often include make-up artists, business trainers, eccentric shops, and amusing web ventures. On YouTube, music has also gained commercial exposure, and we are not talking about a major musician or record company. Dub FX was a dub performer making a few pounds on the streets of Camden and other comparable European cities. On YouTube, footage of his performance garnered millions of views, and let's just say he received his baptism at Glastonbury.
Click To Purchase
New media technology is not idle, particularly when it comes to generating direct sales through media engagement. Some people began the concept with product placement while watching a YouTube clip. Now, you may click on a highlighted object in a video to purchase the item using the click-through link.
The setup is far less expensive than it was when the technology was in Beta a few years ago. For a monthly fee, you may have the software running in your £20 YouTube video. A smart method to set up a YouTube shop, in a nutshell, is to have a scrolling catalog with voice commentary and some intriguing content to keep the user engaged.
Your material should pique the viewer's interest and maintain it. If it's fashion, discuss trends, suggestions, and styles, sprinkle in an occasional celebrity photo, and then exhibit your products. The same is true of services. You may include scrolling text that is clickable as you introduce your unique service. Order now, reserve your spot, and other call-to-action words can generate direct income for you.
AdSense And Ranking
YouTube is an excellent source of vitamins for your Google health. Your web presence may do wonders for surfer engagement and commerce thanks to search engines and web ranking. After uploading your video, don't forget to give it a title, description, and tags.
After you've optimized your keywords and set phrases with accompanying descriptions, you're well on your way to receiving a spike in traffic from Google. If you use appropriate connections and spread the news via social media or your website, your video should get a few hundred views. Your video should begin to show on Google as a result of your key phrases. Click-throughs to websites receive a sizable portion of their traffic from video searches typically associated with YouTube.
Page ranking on YouTube with the assistance of your video is therefore very important. Conduct research on how AdSense works to ensure that money generated from this source is reasonable and constant. YouTube will deposit payments into your Google AdSense account, and after you've completely registered in the program, you'll also be able to turn on Google advertisements to the side of or above your videos.
This may earn additional revenue through pay per click and affiliate commissions, and all you have to do is maintain new video material and enjoy the earnings. Apart from direct payment, there are additional options to grow your YouTube reputation and generate additional money sources.
If you're selling a few items on eBay or want to increase traffic to your revenue-generating blog, including a link to your site makes sense. You may approach other firms in your sector and offer to recommend their goods in your videos in exchange for a 5-10% commission over and above what YouTube pays you, or you can just get into an affiliate arrangement. By avoiding middlemen affiliate firms, you may keep 100% of your commission.
The Program for Partners
The Partner Program is when your films truly begin to earn you money. Once you become a partner, you may expect to earn between $2.50 and $5 (£1.56 and £3.13) for every 1,000 views of your video. While this may not sound like much at the moment, if you manage to produce the next viral phenomenon with millions of views, you can expect to earn a dot-com fortune for your efforts. Consider monetizing your video by selling scrolling text.
A specific number of viewers suffices as proof of existence for a platform in which a linked business would be interested. Product placement and endorsements as part of the content are an effective way for paying advertising, large or small, to promote their business.
favorite open-source resources.
Currency of the Fans
Make your uploads one-of-a-kind and positively distinctive, and you're likely to amass a devoted following of admirers. Video marketing is not a get-rich-quick scheme, and it may be unexpected to some extent; patience and deliberate preparation should assist.
It may be a lot of fun to create the films, and once they begin generating money for you, they are likely to continue earning money month after month. Feed your audience by introducing them to videos from others who have a link to yours. Once you've accumulated a library of 15 or more videos, you should be able to generate a reasonable amount of views for each video. Once all of your videos reach a minimum of 1,000 views, you can be confident that YouTube will contact you to ask whether you'd want to apply to become a Partner.
Uploading videos to YouTube is an extremely public act. As a result, you must be explicit about authorization and the restrictions of publishing a video. Take precautions and ensure that you have authorization where necessary to avoid discovering that your hard work was for naught.
Situational footage in which you act as a witness with your video may be excluded in some instances, therefore it's a good idea to understand the limitations. Ascertain that your video does not violate the copyright of another party. Take a few moments to go over YouTube's terms of service. They are also there to safeguard your own good work from infringement by others; you'd need to know when your copyright interests have been violated as well.
Consult YouTube's copyright guidelines and suggestions. Making money on YouTube offers more opportunities than we are accustomed to. It's entirely up to you to create engaging content and manage revenue once watching statistics begin to climb. It's an open field; let's begin filming.
Mother of three, daughter, sister, wife, public relations consultant, and entrepreneur
On most days, like many women, I appear to have to balance all of my duties. On other days, there are only three or four. This was the impetus for me to create Home For Business. I understand what it takes to be a working mother and how to run an internet business from home while juggling all of the 'pulls' of daily family life and work.
I've always been entrepreneurial, and in my 30s founded my first corporate communications firm, EMA Productions, working with large multinational customers such as Texaco and Rank & Boots. While it was difficult and time-consuming, it was immediately successful. Without family interruptions and with the backing of a wonderful team and office, I could focus only on obtaining contracts and satisfying customer demands.
There are hundreds of legitimate possibilities available to individuals, but many are unaware of where to begin.

LoL Chapter 11- Ashes in Asklepion
Masterpost
A Wizard Hermits tale (AU belongs to @theguardiansofredland )
A storm grows in the Valley of Danes, dark skies and death waiting to bear down on the hermits and their new allies. This time, they won’t run from the husks. This time, they fight
Warning: Minor character death, battle scene
____________________________________________
“They’re just standing there.” Wels whispers, pulling his sword to rest on the metal pauldron of his armor. “Like...like…”
“Like an army at attention.” False finishes. A whole line of husk monsters, grey flakes falling off monochrome forms. Devoid of life both in color and eyes. They were just that- husks. The remains of an animal, without soul or life to brighten the beast.
Tango opens his wings wide, and takes off into the air. Behind the hermits, the remaining members of the Asklepions are steeling themselves for another battle. Scar bites his lip, looking at the dirt and bloodstained white robes. None of these people should be fighting for their lives. None of these people should be using their healing powers to kill. Whoever is using this dark magic, using it against a peaceful guild like this, is a sick soul. Who even attacks a healing guild? They hold no danger.
Tango returns to solid ground. His broad red wings brush against the ashen dirt, smoke curling into the sky as embers reignite with the air around it. “I don’t see a crystal, I don’t see anything like what we saw in Gildara.”
“Do you know when they’ll attack?” TFC questions, turning to Galena.
The elderly healer nods her head, and points to the sky above the army. “Do you see that dark cloud? It is no storm, it is billowing ash, rising like an eruption from a volcano. Upon the first strike of red lightning, it will send the army into a frenzy. And they will attack. The thunder is their war horn. We don’t have long.”
“Scar, Stress, Ren, and Joe. Go and help build up defenses as quickly as possible.” TFC waves a hand in the direction of the guild hall, the black veins still visible on his healing arm. “Focus around where the wounded are hiding. Impulse, Iskall, and BDubs- I want you to set up traps. Hopefully we can slow them down, or get rid of at least a few.”
“Can’t there be a way to free these creatures from the dark magic?” Micha questions, holding his hands to his chest. “It hurts me to see them in such pain, but death?”
“They’re already dead.” Xisuma states. “There is no soul, no life left in those creatures. Dark magic is just puppeteering them.”
Micha steps back, lip quivering. Zedaph offers a warm smile, understanding the kipling’s worries. But Iris’s jaw clenches, fingers wrapping around a brand new weapon- a hoe. “I’m tired of waiting to die! I’m tired of waiting for them to attack us!”
Iris lets out a hoarse yell, and streaks past the hermits. She jumps through a rising wall of stone, crossing the field of flowers and raising her tool high. “Iris no!”
Lightning strikes. And the horde washes forward, down the hill, ashen forms of monsters and beasts roiling like a wave across the burnt grass. Smoke kicking up from the hooves and paws and claws, digging into the ruined soil, hungry for death. Iris’s magic circle appears, as white as the dress she wears, brushing outward and towards the snapping maws before her. The equine legs of an uisage, once sea-green fur a withered grey the color of a storm at sea, snap under the weight of her magic.
And jaws snap into Iris. The deadly fangs of a chimera, venom dripping from the fangs, grab hold of the young healer. The entire valley of Danes falls silent, the Hermits unable to take their eyes away from the sight as Iris falls still, her form losing it’s color.
Losing it’s life. Sapped from her, leaving only the husked form of the wizard behind. By the time the chimera has let go, training it’s eyes on the remaining living targets, Iris is gone- yet still standing. The husk remains of Iris rolls it’s shoulders, skin the color of flint. Even the stains on it’s dress had lost all color, all life. A few flecks of ashes brush into the sky as it blinks, eyes devoid of any life. There were no irises on Iris- no soul left to fill it’s eyes.
It’s fierce gaze is turned back on the hermits and Iris’s once fellow healers. The husk’s hand reaches out, and a magic circle appears. Just as corrupted and erratic as the husk the hermits faced way back in Gildara. Realization hits Wels first. “Get down!”
He grabs False by the arm, pulling her to the side a breath before the released magic strikes her. It doesn’t miss, instead lashing into a healer. The sickening crack of bones rattles across the broken complex surrounding them. The other hermits roll away from the magic, Stress leaping from her broken ice wall and tucking into a roll. The swarm of monsters have reached their defenses. The massive body of grootslang careens into Scar’s stone walls. It’s twisted tusks dig into the ground and attempt to rip through the material. One tusk breaks off, the debris falling apart like ash and clay. The jagged end spews smoke, but the monster doesn’t stop, continuing to throw it’s weight against the walls.
The hermits fall back, bracing for the sieged gates to collapse. Wels pulls free his sword, metal glimmering as he conducts magic through the blade to buff his allies. BDubs wraps his arms in vines, hearing the crunching noise of Keralis snacking and activating his powers. Jevin waves his hand, magic swirling to life before him, and a squadron of blue slime warriors collect together, standing at attention. Ready to fight. Team ZIT bump their fists, embers of magic and mischief sparking free from each one’s hand. Cleo and False brandish their own weapons, and from behind Iskall and Grian snap their fingers, circles appearing in their hands. Mumbo attempts to call his own magic, but it stutters with each crack of stone and ice.
The ice has nearly collapsed. Mumbo whimpers, drawing his circle again. It fails once more. His hands are shaking as he presses the pad of his index finger into the air. A wrinkled hand rests on Mumbo’s sleeve, warm and comforting. Galena whispers her finger close, completely ignoring the impending army. Mumbo kneels down, letting the elderly healer whisper in his ear. “I know you can do it, sonny boy. Take a deep breath-” She breathes in, “and let out all those worries.”
When her voice exhales, Mumbo blinks away magic cresting his long, black lashes. His hands have stopped shaking, his heart stopped pounding. He attempts to draw his circle again- it works. “Wha-what did you do? Did you buff me, give me strength?”
“Not all healers deal in physical wounds. But in the end, it’s up to the body to heal itself- we just help it along.” Galena smiles, and steps back.
Ice cracks and stone shatters, raining down upon the healers and hermits. Joe brushes his quill to the side, and the debris goes flying, as if smacked by a giant’s hand. Grian blows away the remaining bits and pieces, until only pebbles bounce off their heads. They have more important things to focus on.
The army of husks surge through the opening. Immediately, a tarasque barrels through the hermits. A spiny shell tears at cloaks and bowls over those who don’t jump away fast enough. Grian and Tango take to the sky, red and white wings beating against the air. Grian waves down to Cleo. “A pack of kishi are coming in on your left!”
Cleo turns, green lips curling into a smile. She pulls her captain’s hat low. Strikes her blade into the ground. If there was one thing a healer’s complex had, it was ghosts, ghouls, and skeletons. Misty white and sickly green transparent beings rise from the ground. All Cleo has to do is point her sword. The undead attack the possessed, ghosts haunting forms and skeletons charging into battle.
Black and green robes flutter above Cleo, and Xisuma tosses a spell into the horde of kishi. The ravaging, two faced pack of monsters are engulfed by the void The ghosts and skeletons remain. Xisuma’s magic is as precise as everything else he does. His boots scrape against the stone walkway, landing next to Cleo. “You distract and I’ll engulf?”
“Sounds like a plan.” Cleo grins, and the two take off into battle. They run past Stress, Ren, and Iskall. Iskall thrusts his fist into the stone, the ground erupting as radioactive iskallium seeps up into the attacking monsters. The green goo erupts upward, and with a giggle Stress freezes the material. Ren closes his eyes. His imagination goes to work. The ruddy color of his circle fuses into magical wheels, and he sends the imagined cart trundling into the monsters. Spiking the radioactive ice into a drake, a hippogriff, and two lavellans. The husk forms collapse into piles of ash, dark magic billowing with the forms. Swept into the wind and away from the valley.
The battle continues on. Lifesavers become lifetakers, healers fighting side by side with the hermits. An illegal guild fighting next to one of the most renowned licensed healers in the world. At first, they were winning. Defeating the husks as fast as they arrived, only a few scratches and wounds delt across the survivors.
At first. In the clash of battle, Doc hears a shout. The elongated fangs of a many-mouthed cipatli digs into his metal arm, but he ignores the gnashing teeth against the wires and magical components of his arm in lieu of finding the source of the scream. Through the battle, past the explosion of Impulse as he leaps away, Micha is on the ground.
The husk of Iris looms over him, black magic circle spun and ready to release. Doc pushes through the battle, rushing forward and ripping off the scaly husk on his arm. He can hear Micha begging, calling out to Iris. “It’s me, your friend! Iris, please you have to be in there! You know me, I’m Micha!”
The husk doesn’t blink, doesn’t flinch. His words are falling on deaf, unhearing ears. Iris’s thumb comes to rest on her middle finger, pressing down and ready to snap. Ready to release it’s magic and surely do something horrible to Micha.
Doc isn’t going to let that happen. He growls, and thrusts his own hand forward. A stone statue creaks, and rises from her pedestal. Gigantic arms, cloaked in smooth marble robes, rise up into the ashen sky. Doc closes his eyes.
And opens the stone statue’s. He can see through her eyes, see the husked remains of Iris standing at her feet. WIth little second thought, he punts the husked remains away from Micha. Iris disappears in a puff of ash and smoke, form released from the dark magic that sapped her energy. Her soul.
Doc straightens the statue’s back, the ten foot tall form looming over the fight before him. He watches Micha stand, only for one of his fellow healers to fall. Doc steps forward, watching as Grian falls from the sky. Struck by the massive wings of a Roc, and thrown into the collapsing roof of a building. For being the group’s healer, he had a way of getting himself hurt.
They were at a stalemate. Hermits just barely keeping the husks from moving further, bracing their wounded bodies against the monsters and losing ground as fast as they gain. He could even see himself, standing stock still in the middle of the battle. Scar was at his side, haphazardly throwing up a wall around the body of his friend. Protecting his physical form while his mind was within the statue he controls.
TFC steps back, watching as the massive stone statue throws it’s weight against the grootslang, tussling with it in a fight worthy of the ancient ones. He can see they aren’t winning- but they aren’t losing either. Last time, they fled the dark magic. They didn’t understand it. But this time, they can’t run. They have to protect the valley of Danes, and the few remaining healers left. How can they turn the tide?
TFC watches Etho jump from shadow to shadow, landing blows against any unsuspecting husk. He tips his head up, looking at the darkened storm above the monsters. And an idea sparks like a flash of lightning. “Grian, use your wind magic against the storm above you!” TFC calls out to Grian, watching the winged hermit pry himself free from the collapsed building he was flung into. “Joe, can you summon something big to control the weather?”
“You betcha.” Joe pulls out his quill, sidestepping a raging ngepet. The wind picks up around him, Grian’s wings pulsating and picking up force with each sweep. Joe doesn’t bother himself, letting his quill glide along his paper, writing out a poem as his elaborately embroidered cape snaps against his legs. “One big bird coming right up.”
He signs the last letter of the poem, and from the storm a shadow appears. A thunderbird, with the caw as sharp as lightning, joins Grian in collapsing the storm. Sunlight seeps through, and when TFC looks back at the fighting hermits, he sees the tide has turned. The storm weakens, as does the husks. They don’t stop fighting, even taking down another healer and slashing a cut into Zedaph’s arm, but they’re losing.
The husks don’t back down, even when the last monster is backed into a corner. Snarling and on full offensive. Something about dark magic must make them violent beyond thought. No sense of self preservation- TFC can only guess since it’s already dead, what more is there to lose?
The last of the smoky grey ash cloud disappears, and False strikes down the ngepet that earlier tried to take out Joe. Silence falls across the gardens, only the sound of wind and Doc’s statue returning to her pedestal as commentary to the scene before them. They killed the entire army, drove off the storm. But not without heavy losses. Galena helps the only surviving healer from the fight to his feet- Micha. “Thank you, hermits. You...none of us would be around if it wasn’t for you all.”
“Do you think the invasion is over? Is Danes safe?” Doc questions, stumbling back into his form. Blinking his eyes, rolling his broken robotic arm.
Galena nods. “That was them all. You did more than I could’ve ever hoped for.” Galena looks around, at the shattered remains of her guild. Her home destroyed, her members gone. “My best decision ever was to reach out for you.”
“I’m sorry, I wish we could do more.” Grian whispers, holding his arm into place. He may have dislocated it.
“The Asklepions may be in ruins, but we are much harder to destroy than you think. We will rise from the ashes, like a phoenix.” Galena whispers. “This is not the first time I have seen a guild rise and fall around me. Even among the Council guilds.”
Xisuma perks up, curious. “You were in a council guild?”
Even Micha looks surprised. Galena nods him away, off to check on the wounded back in the guild hall. “Long, long ago. Yes, I was a member of a Council Guild. That was before things changed, when Lairyon was a different place.” Galena turns away. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I can offer you money for your hard work. But...what about something a little more valuable?”
“What do you know, guildmaster Galena?” Xisuma, ever hungry for more knowledge, is practically on his knees to hear more.
“Dark magic like this needs a mage to control it. And that mage needs somewhere to hide their work. Where better to hide forbidden magic than under the very noses of the leaders who forbid them?” Galena shakes her head, running withered fingers along the crystal in her staff. She glances back at the hermits, a youthful glimmer in her eyes. “When I was younger, there were always rumors of dungeons beneath the capitol. I never found anything, but you all are quite clever- when you put your heads together.”

The CoViD Vaccine
I first posted this to facebook because of the high number of anti-vaxxers on the media. But I figured I’d post it here, too. This is a quick study of why the CoViD-19 vaccine was developed so quickly and why it’s likely safe. Sources at the bottom of the post.
===
Part 1: Why was the CoViD vaccine developed so quickly while other vaccines take years?
Some people cite the inability to produce an HIV/AIDS vaccine after so long as a justification for stating that the CoViD vaccine could not possibly be developed in such a short time. However, there's a very good reason with the HIV/AIDS vaccine is taking so long, and it's found in the genetic makeup of the virus.
HIV is a strange virus, in that it completes its cycle insanely fast (within 24 hours in some cases) and because of this, it's prone to mutations. Because little to nothing was done about the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, the virus was allowed to spread, unchecked, rapidly mutating and developing into HUNDREDS of strains.
You know how we have to get a new flu shot every year because the virus has mutated into something new? That's HIV, but instead of a new strain appearing once a year, a new strain can appear in the course of one single viral generation. When HIV is transmitted to someone else, it may already be a slightly different virus than it was in the transmitter. This means that a vaccine developed to work in the person who transmitted the virus would not work for the newly-infected person.
That's why, at this point in time, antiretrovirals (drugs that disrupt the replication of the virus by preventing it from attaching to RNA) actually work better than a vaccine.
As well, HIV/AIDS specifically attacks the immune system, hampering any efforts at strong immune response. That is, by the time a vaccinated immune system recognizes the virus as a threat, it has already destroyed part of the immune system AND mutated itself, meaning the even a vaccine that would otherwise work can no longer be effective. This is a known phenomenon called "immune exhaustion."
Lastly, HIV is really good at hiding from detection as a dormant phase of the viral particles (called provirus) can remain within cells for years before lysing from/destroying the cells they're inside. And HIV creates these provirus particles every single cycle, which means even if a vaccine is developed and destroys all free-floating viral particles, the dormant particles will always be around to start a new phase of infection, once again leading to immune exhaustion.
In the case of HIV, the hope of a vaccination lay within the blood of people with a natural immunity to HIV, which is a brand new frontier of vaccine development that is poorly understood.
Conversely, CoViD-19 does have a semi-quick mutation rate, but not as fast as HIV. It was also immediately taken seriously by medical professionals, and the development of the vaccine started soon after the virus's discovery. Unlike HIV, CoViD does NOT attack the immune system (instead, it triggers a massive immune response called a cytokine storm) and it also does not hide undetected within cells. (...Probably. We are still learning about the virus.)
 Part 2: Genome Mapping
First, it's important to note that data sharing and sequencing equipment is much more sophisticated than it used to be. This means that several labs can work on the genetic mapping of CoViD at the same time, and share that data in real time. Powerful software allowed the geneticists to connect the various strands of viral RNA gathered from patients presenting with the virus, and it was quickly determined that CoViD-19 (AKA SARS-CoV-2) was remarkably similar to SARS-CoV years before. The viruses share between 88%-90% of the same genetic code; some scholars refer to both viruses as the same "species."
The full method used to determine the genome can be found here: https://www.thelancet.com/.../PIIS0140-6736(20.../fulltext (very long, but pretty cool!)
During the sequencing, it was also determined that while CoViD-19 showed mutations between each case, the faithfulness of the virus to the control was about 99%--suggesting that it was mutating slower than expected. This meant that a quick response could prevent the evolution of the virus to a point where vaccines would be ineffective. While there are multiple strains of CoViD-19, it's likely that they are all currently very similar.
The genome also showed that, like SARS from years past, the CoVid-19 virus contained the same protein receptor--known as ACE2--which had already been studied. The receptor (or spike, as it's called) is what allows the virus to bind to a host cell and release its RNA.
Other factors to consider that are related to the genome mapping itself is that the COST of mapping is far less than it has been in the past, and it also faster and more accurate. Development of vaccines for other diseases (such as chicken pox and HPV) were often hampered by cost, time, and inaccuracy. Conversely, every time the CoViD-19 virus was mapped, the resulting data was nearly the same.
In short, one of the hindrances to vaccine production is often the genome mapping. It's impossible to create a vaccine without knowing the full details of the virus, as a vaccine's purpose is to produce an immune response. That's essentially tricking the immune system into believing it's fighting a virus. The hardest part of vaccine development for CoViD-19 is already done, and it was done in record time.
Part 3: Messenger RNA and synthetic RNA
Before discussing the vaccine, I need to talk about what messenger ribonucleic acid (AKA mRNA) is.
When a cell splits, it needs to make an EXACT copy of its DNA for both cells. Because DNA is fairly complicated, it can't just split in half like the rest of the cell. It needs a set of instructions, which is where transcription comes in.
An enzyme called RNA polymerase makes a near-exact copy of the DNA strand, except for the nucleotide thymine, which is found in DNA, is transcribed as Uracil on the mRNA strand. A lot of stuff happens after that, but the important part is that this mRNA strand is read by ribosomes and TRANSLATED into proteins.
There's... a lot more to it than that, but that's the basic gist.
Which takes us to the question: What is an mRNA vaccine?
It's taken a long time to develop synthetic mRNA. Katalin Karikó, a Hungarian scientist, believed messenger RNA could be harnessed to create all sorts of disease resistances, but the synthetic material was quickly identified and destroyed by the body's immune system.
Because Karikó was experimenting with an idea that other scientists had dismissed as impossible, it took her FIFTEEN YEARS to create something with such promise that she finally received grants to further her work. It wasn't until 2005 that Karikó discovered a way to trick the immune system into NOT immediately attacking the synthetic RNA.
Only 15 years ago. And even then, because many of Karikó's peers had already dismissed messenger RNA as a valid medical tool, it took them a long time to get them on board, and research crawled forward and a snail's pace.
Her accomplishments DID interest a post-doc named Derrick Rossi, who successfully used the synthetic RNA to create proteins in a petri dish out of various polypeptides. Most interestingly, an introduced immune contingent would ignore the mRNA, as if it was supposed to be there.
It was this work, in 2010, that made Rossi realize that mRNA could be used to create vaccines.
This inkling of an idea required "proof of concept" in order to receive funding for further research--which was slow in coming. Any new technology, even discoveries that are microscopic, carries risks, and it turned out that repeated doses of mRNA could produce unwanted side-effects. It wasn't until 2018 that Moderna (which should be a familiar name to everyone by now!) Developed a two-dose therapy that would not produce significant negative effects in humans.
Just in time, too. CoViD-19 appeared in 2019. And while Moderna, Pfizer, and several other companies had been experimenting with mRNA as a vessel for vaccines, nothing had yet been approved for use.
Remember when I talked about the genetic map of CoViD-19 in my last post? With that, scientists creating an mRNA vaccine did not actually need the virus in order to work on the vaccine. All they needed was the genome--and they could then synthesize RNA, which could then be used to build the protein shell of the virus, producing an immune response.
Unfortunately, companies developing the vaccines came under fire for essentially using the promise of a save, synthetic material to fill their coffers. But of course, that's capitalism, and that's a different story.
But essentially, rather than a traditionally-created vaccine which uses dead or modified live viruses, an mRNA vaccine has never touched a virus, has never been injected into an animal in order to synthesize more vaccine, and is able to be ready-made in a lab using messenger RNA.
Of course there is concern about possible long-term effects of this new type of vaccine. The cool thing about mRNA, though, is built into its very code. After it does what it's supposed to do (in the case of the CoViD vaccine, that job is "building a viral envelope that contains no actual viral RNA," it self-destructs. That's why it has to be stored at such low temperatures. anything higher than that and you'd have what's essentially a slurry of random synthesized polypeptides that wouldn't do a damn thing.
So the worry isn't really whether there will be long-term effects from this vaccine, but whether the synthetic mRNA will be able to survive long enough to produce enough fake virus shells to create an immune response. So far, trials have proved successful.
Part 4: Polio, and Why Most Vaccines Are So Extensively Tested
There's a good reason that the FDA requires such extensive, lengthy testing on vaccines, and it has to do with the polio vaccine.
I'm sure most opponents of vaccination cite the early polio vaccine as a reason not to vaccinate--that vaccines are inherently dangerous and should be approached with caution.
Trials of the polio vaccine went well, and were well-tolerated, which meant scientists were initially baffled when a vaccine caused 40,000 cases of polio in children, 200 of which were left paralyzed, and 10 of which died.
At first, people were convinced that this meant vaccines were dangerous--many blamed Jonas Salk for pushing the vaccine through R&D and dooming everyone who'd gotten the vaccine to polio.
So what happened? Did dangerous chemicals in the vaccine cause a weak immune system leading to polio? Was the process itself flawed? Was it time to give up on vaccines as a valid form of disease protection???
Fortunately, no.
Just like today, there were many nay-sayers about vaccines, and those who were against putting them into their body. See, Salk used formaldehyde to de-activate the virus, which people recognized as being very poisonous. despite the fact that the vaccine itself contained none of the chemical, the public demanded an alternative if they were to take it.
So a company called Cutter Labs decided not to use formaldehyde to deactivate the vaccine. In fact, they didn't de-activate the vaccine at all. Because of a lack of rigorous safety protocol at the time, the error was then missed by health inspectors, who ok'd giving a completely live virus to 40,000 children.
This incident, called the Cutter Incident, led to more rigorous oversight and testing when it came to vaccination. It also let to what's called "attunated" viruses, which are weakened, but still living viruses. These attunated viruses have been responsible for outbreaks of poliomyelitis around the world, all because people feared the process used to kill the virus.
The point is, the reason it takes so long to approve vaccines under normal circumstances is that you are dealing with a medication that contains actual viruses (albeit usually dead viruses) plus agents designed to provoke an immune response, such as aluminum. Deactivated vaccines also used to contain thimerosal as a binding agent preservative. While not elemental mercury, thimerosal was derived from mercury, and thus just as suspect as Salk's formaldehyde.
In any case, there's a lot of people concerned about what they are putting into their bodies. And while the use of aluminum adjuvants has been proven safe over decades of vaccinations, every single one still must be tested in order to determine efficacy and safety. Pushing a vaccine that doesn't work is just as bad as pushing a vaccine that causes harm to the patient.
To be fair, it is likely the alum compound that causes vaccine reactions, which means it's up to medical science to do better! Thankfully there are many new adjuvants on the market, including MF59, an oil emulsion which is derived from shark liver; most people consider this a much better option than heavy metal, and it is the most likely candidate for use as an adjuvant in the CoViD-19 vaccine.
If, that is, an adjuvant is needed at all. Currently, there's some speculation that the mRNA in the CoViD vaccine could alone provoke a strong immune response.
Part 5: Putting it all together!
1. Coronavirus was caught quickly and an immediate medical response was established. Using new genetic mapping technology that has only been developed within the last decade, CoViD-19's genome was mapped and made available.
2. CoViD-19 does not hide in, nor does it attack the immune system. For this reason, it's much easier to create an immune response to a vaccine as compared to, say, the HIV virus. Unlike the HIV virus and the common cold, CoViD-19 also currently has limited strains and mutations, making it the perfect time to create a vaccine.
3. The vaccine does not use viral particles. It doesn't need to be "incubated" and then tested after each incubation period. There is no chance for the vaccine to cause the virus in any dose. Instead, it uses synthetic messenger RNA in prompt the body into synthesizing the protein shell of the virus, which activates our immune system.
4. It contains a natural adjuvant found in shark liver oil, rather than heavy metal aluminum. This cuts down on the testing time. Adjuvants provoke an immune response more quickly than the virus alone, although Pfizer stated that the vaccine would likely work without one.
5. Lastly, this can't be overstated enough, the idea behind testing is to have a successful trial in as many people as possible. Other vaccines fail because of unfavorable trials. (For example, chicken pox took so long to develop a vaccine for because of the lack of technologies we had today leading to low efficacy rates in test subjects.) Compared with the MMR vaccine, which has an average efficacy of 90%, the CoViD-19 vaccine achieved a 95% efficacy rate in 10 months. There was very little "back to the drawing board" except in one case where the company developing a vaccine trial dropped completely.
I do want to state here that it is normal for medical science to work faster and better as time progresses. Vaccine science IS medical science, and has only been utilized for the last hundred years. All medical sciences progress and become more reliable as time goes on, including heart transplants, treatment of HIV, diabetes, hell--even Alzimers may have a cure in the next decade thanks to various breakthroughs in the last three years.
It is okay to be cautious. It is not okay to dismiss science because you're afraid or because you don't understand it. It's okay to ask for help learning about these things.
We science people aren't here to lie to you. We look forward to a future where serious disease is a simple hindrance, and not a life-changing event.

Meaning of digital marketing and opportunities
To run a business requires creativity, flexibility and the ability to overcome challenging situations. It is the fastest way to be your boss. Making decisions here usually takes courage, forsight and determination. Then the first question which comes into mind is how can I become a successful owner? There are also many secrets to running a successful business. In this article, you will learn some of these secrets.
Expand your business with Digital Marketing As a business owner, you’ll always be in search of new ways to grow your business. There are many ways to achieve this. One of main ways to expand your business is via digital marketing. Many firms haven’t been able to engage their customers online. Considering the current situation , it is one of the most effective methods of growing your business.
Meaning of digital marketing It is the online platform for promoting your online or offline services and products.
How digital marketing works • Stay focused on your customers. • Ensure traffic acquisition and conversion optimization get found by using right. • Search engine optimize strategies. • Build your marketing strategies according to analytics. • Develop story of your brand.
Opportunities in Digital marketing
The information and communications technology (ICT) sector is looking to fill “tech-lite” roles, such as in digital marketing.
Many businessmen says that, aside from jobs that require people with tech skills, the sector also wants to tap the experience and knowledge of specific industries and sectors. The sector last year registered a strong growth in employment even amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
As at February this year, more than 13,600 job seekers were placed in ICT jobs, traineeships and attachments under the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package. There remain over 18,000 of such opportunities on offer.
Digital marketing jobs requires working with partners to create courses, and with companies to make available training and attachment. common misconception is that it is hard to get into the technology sector. Growing an e-commerce business can be summed up in two words—digital marketing. Companies are placing their ads where eyeballs are: Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest and other platforms. Brands that have effective social media campaigns are seeing major returns. You need more than a good product to see a spike in revenue from digital advertisements. Many startups are losing money creating lackluster ads or failing to analyze their metrics to reach their target demographic.
5 tips to grow revenue through digital marketing
Use Relevant Content
Long gone are the days when companies needed big marketing dollars to produce advertisement campaigns. Today’s social ads look less like cinematic TV commercials, and more like organic content anyone could create with an iPhone and basic editing software. Large and small businesses are using customer or influencer testimonial videos or shooting videos from their phone, adding subtitles, music and uploading the content as an ad. When done right, this approach translates to customer acquisitions.
Test out different creative assets to discover what your audience responds to. Social media algorithms favor video, so that’s a good place to start. Include subtitles as most users watch on mute.
Social media has changed the way consumers speak and what they respond to. User-driven trends are here to stay, so keep up on current trends to create content consumers respond to. And a trend that goes viral on one platform (think of the rise of TikTok videos with on-screen text) will likely carry over to all social media channels.
Start Small
The last thing you want to do is go all in and spend a sizeable amount on an ad that doesn’t perform. First, identify who your potential customers are through market research, surveys and by testing out audiences through Facebook or Instagram ads. Optimize your ad spend by ROAS (return on ad spend) instead of CPA (cost per acquisition), CPC (cost per click), and others, as it is often the metric that will make the most sense for your business. If your website is user friendly, the ads are compelling and visible to your demographic, sales will come in.
Hiring Right
Two scenarios can occur when startups contact digital agencies. They discover most charge a minimum $5k a month (not including the ad budget) and can’t move forward. Or they hire an agency by cutting costs in other departments and see very little or no growth in sales. There are great agencies that do exceptional work and provide flexible pricing, but new businesses must be extra diligent, especially when cash flow is tight.
If you want to outsource, find someone who understands your industry. Choosing a marketer experienced in marketing pharmaceutical equipment but not your industry won’t provide you with critical insight on the behavior and trends of your specific audience.
Take the time to interview potential firms or individuals to find the right fit for your industry, product and customers. Call or email current or past client references to see how they performed within their specific budget and time frame.
With the job market changing due to Covid, many marketers have gone independent and are looking for new clients. If working with a freelancer is a better option for you, search for professionals on LinkedIn and Upwork to find the right candidate.
You can learn more about digital marketing by watching videos and taking online courses but consider if it’s more cost efficient to hire someone for the job. A skilled person or team allows you to focus and grow other areas of your business.
Be Involved
Outsourcing doesn’t mean handing over the reins completely. You know your business better than anyone and the vision you have for your brand. When you bring on a new person or company to help with marketing and advertising, be clear about the voice, mood and aesthetic you want, but keep an open mind and be willing to test new concepts and ideas. Remember, it is okay to say “no” to suggestions that don’t align with your vision. Even though you hire someone for their expertise, you always have the final say in what moves forward and what doesn’t.
“Founders of companies we work with are involved in the revision processes necessary to achieve the right vision and visual aesthetic for their brand. With that comes a lot of cooperation between my team and the founder. While creative chemistry between us is an important factor, I believe an exchange of ideas is key to creating a concrete marketing strategy,” says social media manager Misty Lam.
Have an Optimized Website
Startups will often cut corners with their website to save money, not realizing their site needs to be fully optimized for desktop and mobile devices. Most consumers decide whether they will stay or leave a site within the first 3 seconds. Your product or service must be clear with captivating images and copy to keep them engaged. Having a general understanding of how SEO works (Search Engine Watch provides an easy-to-follow guide to understand SEO) and hiring a specialist in Google optimization is essential.
“When reviewing our analytics, we saw 60% of our traffic comes from mobile, but 78% of revenue comes from desktop, indicating our website was not fully mobile optimized. We created more call-to-action buttons, divided our products into category-specific collections for easier and quicker navigation, and included customer reviews directly under our products. We also discovered that our website theme was slowing down our page, so we are changing that,” says Broglie Box founder Julia Broglie.
If you are currently selling or getting ready to launch a product or service, the most impactful tool to scale your online sales is through digital marketing. Look at ads and content posted by your competitors or companies in your industry to see what is resonating with their audience and what isn’t. As you review their content, read the comments. The most valuable insight is from consumers. If your ROI is positive when you start running ads, incrementally increase your ad spend on the best performing ad.
At first, testing ads, finding the right agency or freelancer and discovering what is effective is trial and error. When you find the formula that is right for your company, double down on that and you will reap the financial rewards. During the Covid-19 pandemic, e-commerce experienced a massive boom as consumers and companies did business online with greater frequency. As a result, the internet is a more crowded shopping space than ever with the global digital ad spend projected to surpass $389 billion in 2021.
But while your niche likely gets more crowded, that’s not a reason to slow down on ad spending, it’s a license to get more creative with your digital marketing.
So, there are both pros and cons in this sector. If you work properly for a client, they will definitely suggest you and make you more commited in the work.
