On the subject of humanformers content, I think my hottest take for the transformers community as a whole (that I can think of) is that I… I really don’t think the fanon long braid hairstyle suits ratchet. I KNOW ITS PRETTY IM SORRY BUT HE JUST DOESNT SEEM LIKE THE TYPE TO BRAID HIS HAIR OR GROW IT LONG TO BEGIN WITH.

Ok so theres two particular cases I wanna talk about with this, cuz I think it’s popular enough that’s it’s spread to pretty much every continuity. First I’d like to make an exception- I’m willing to believe MTMTE ratchet wears his hair long or at least longer than most continuities. I’m also willing to believe, nay, INSIST that drift braids it all pretty like and ratchet lets him. This is the one exception I can think of.

Second of all, I need to address TFP ratchet, considering I’m pretty sure this is where that design came from in the first place, and is certainly where it’s the most popular. Ironically, this is the version of him I can LEAST imagine ever putting in the effort for a braid.

Listen okay, that man is STARVING himself due to lack of energon + being focused on the rest of the team, and is basically never seen not working on something. I guarantee you if he were human he wouldn’t have these luscious, flowing, L’Oreal commercial locks in a nice little French/dutch braid. I know y’all love pretty ratchet but I think we need to accept that he’s horrible at self care and would have rough cropped hair and a scruffy short beard or stubble, that man is having a ROUGH time and he ain’t got time for braids or even brushing long ass hair. Not to mention he doesn’t want it getting caught on anything in his lab or god forbid the battlefield.

I saw some fanart for a different character recently on tiktok that actually looked pretty damn close to what I imagined him like (though still perhaps with a darker skin tone like most of the fanon depictions, but the hair and face are pretty close)

This is all in good fun though, I do adore all the fanart of him with his braid I just can’t imagine him realistically wearing it in a time of war. As always everyone’s entitled to their opinions and hell, I recognize I’m in the minority here 💀 all just to clarify I’m not actually trying to start a hc war, if anyone’s got any other interesting ideas for him lemme know in the replies!

So my thing with Ultra Magnus/Smokescreen is that I’m also shipping them both with Wheeljack and Bulkhead, just in a way they’re all kind of sluts in a friendly way (they all survived a huge civil war, they’re processing life in a weird way) I also think it’d be fun if Knockout and a somehow alive Breakdown was involved with them. Smokescreens like always a bottom tho, there’s just something about him, he’d be down to absolutely wrecked by the wreckers.

Quick au this can all be attached to, there’s been a handful of posts and fics where TFP Smokescreens a bit more like other incarnations of Smokescreen, and I mostly just think the potential of Smokescreen being involved in covert ops or crime before being a guardsman would be hot and add depth. Maybe he’s kinda gone back to covert ops when it’s important after the war. Maybe he goes rogue. Maybe Ultra Magnus and Ratchet know what he’s up to, they’re at least the most likely to know what he’s doing. Maybe Devcon shows up and he and Smokescreen have a thing going on. Smokescreens my favorite, this shits about him.

Proposal: Smokescreen does something badass and Wheeljack thinks it’s hot. Rookie knows how to parkour and knife fight, how could Wheeljack not fuck him. (There’s potential for emotions to be felt but also they’re freaks they get rough with it)

And, I don’t know about you but I like Humanformers a lot, I think mostly because it’s easier for me to think out in my head, but I think humanformers Smokescreen is covered in a worrying amount of scars. And freckles.

As for the Wreckers wrecking this twink? I'm down for that for sure! I don't know too much about the other versions of Smokescreen other than TFP and a little bit of G1. However, the idea is *chefs kiss*

Now onto the humanformers part of this becausw dude, you made my goblin ass go feral over the idea of Smokescreen having freckles. So much so that I attempted to draw what I imagined our adorable punk rookie would look like.

my favorite thing about the transformers canon (at least the tfp canon) is that ratchet is good looking. he's pretty. he's attractive. bots have mentioned it before. in S1 ep22 bulkhead says "and more attractive" in response to ratchets behavior under synth-en. in S2 ep18 smokescreen (while looking for what car to scan and pick for his disguise) says, referring to a fairly old model of a human vehicle, "nah, it's more like ratchet. old but pretty" like everyone just agrees this grumpy old medic is hot and i honestly live for that

First impression

I FUCKING LOVE HIM. How much do I love him? I took his Humanformers design, made him into a whole OC and got an A on an incomplete script (I HAD TOO MUCH TO WRITE AND TOO LITTLE TIME) I wrote for him in college scriptwriting class. A LOT of this is thanks to Straya on Deviantart, who was my introduction to Humanformers and at that point also ran a Livejournal where she played Ratchet as a character, and a lot of her work informed me about his general characterization. I didn't work with him as much as I would like to back then! She was considered sort of the ur-Ratchet Fanartist among TF artists back then, so I settled on making Hound my 'signature' TF to make (humanformers) fanart of ouob

Impression now

I LOVE HIM EVEN MORE????? The only reason I don't draw him as often as I should is because if I let myself, NO ONE is going to get any screen time EVER. Honestly he's probably one of the big gems of the franchise and for damn good reason, he's pretty much the TF archetype for "Grumpy old bastard man with a heart of gold". If you hate him, I don't trust you lol.

Favorite moment

You think he needs a body to serve burns this hot? You absolute fool. Also if this isn't the gold standard for Balls of Steel I don't know what is, this fucker clearly does not fear death and will fistfight god on a dime.

Idea for a story

There's something minute I think, that Bludgeon said about him having hurt Ratchet "In ways only a doctor would know" or something like that, I'm paraphrasing. It was a tiny bit, but I want to take that, and make it an entire thing where Ratchet is actually badly damaged from what Bludgeon did to him (In my humanformers version, he will sport several skin grafts bc part of the torture included flaying, and this will be a homage to Dr.Blackjack, one of the characters I take some inspiration from for my version of him) and has severe PTSD he has to work through from it (as well as a now insane tolerance for pain that makes him worryingly blithe to what he puts his body through) which takes years. I want him to face Bludgeon again with the most I LIVED BITCH grin you could muster, scars and all, because you fucking tried buddy, you tried to break him and you failed, and he's going to make an exception to the Hippocratic Oath just for you.

Unpopular opinion

-Umbrella opens to shield from tomatoes and bricks- I think he and Drift should be portrayed closer in age 8V.

Favorite relationship

Him with Prime and him with Drift!

Favorite headcanon

He had deadly aim with his medical utensils and his Kidney Dish throws are legendary for their precision. The Lambo Twins swear he can round corners with it.

Humanformers au. Wreck-gar.

Oh, I love this guy. When I first saw and heard him, I immediately liked this version of him.

For starters, his story would mostly be the same as it was in the show. An allspark fragment in a bunch of garbage brings him life and he spend the first moments trying to figure out how he is.

However, I can see him latching onto to Rowen (Ratchet) a bit more in this AU. And I can see him knowing Rowen's secret identity but would be able to keep it a secret. While he might not understand why Rowen wants to keep a secret, he can tell it's important, so Wreck-Gar keeps it a secret.

While Rowen would still be annoyed with Wreck-Gar at first, I can see Wreck-Gar being a motivator to help Rowen keep being a hero. When they first meet, Rowen would want to quit being a hero, getting tired of all the trouble it causes, believing its more trouble than it's worth.

After meeting Wreck-Gar and helping him figure out who he is, Rowen would be sort of inspired to keep being a hero and would be upset when he thought Wreck-Gar was destroyed saving the city from those out-of-control micro-bots and would actually be somewhat happy to see Wreck-Gar's okay.

I also imagine Wreck-Gar follow Rowen around a lot, with Rowen being annoyed, but would learn to put up with it.
