Note
I’m so trigger happy with the block button when it comes to Nate. Even people that are only mildly wrong get blocked.
high five anon me too!!! I block people so fast for Nate hate, it's honestly kind of funny. I've not really done this kind of block spree for any other fandom, i just think that their takes are so nuclearly bad. Like are we even watching the same show???

Hot Takes From Troll Accounts - re: Breaking Bad and the MSM's General Influence on Populous Beliefs/Behaviors
Exhibit A) absurdly-“useful”
Tumblr media
Except mainstream anything has an immediate influence on the masses hence why electing a pro Nazi rapist to office was fucking BAD for the population and the safety for women, POC, queer folk, and people with disabilities… ya goofy misdirecting troll account see you next tuesday. 😂
Tumblr media
Exhibit B) wackweeder, grimeclown, and cactusseeds
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No, to answer your question - grimeclown. But that’s kinda not really the focus.
*eyes rolling at cactusseeds* - tell me you work for media without telling me you work for media.
For wackweeder - you say “media illiterate” like that’s a bad thing. Lmfao. I prefer to put my limited time in reading published studies, reading historical books, interacting with people who value educational content (not you), taking STEM classes, and beating my ass up in fitness arenas than working on my “media literacy.” I have all my social media feeds to tell me shit I don’t care about in relation to mainstream television now, anyway. It’s not like I get to bury my head away from any of it as much as I would love to. But why the hell would I want to watch brain rot with what limited time I have on this planet. I rhetorically ask. Here’s the key response to your overall population influence illiteracy - media influences everything including drug usage. This is why most developed governments are so sensitive about tobacco and alcohol ads in the presence of children. It doesn’t generally matter how the shit is portrayed. If it did then Nancy Reagan’s “War on Drugs” TV specials would’ve had some positive effect on the masses. Hint… it didn’t.
https://academic.oup.com/alcalc/article/44/3/229/178279
Now - you can go ahead and make the argument that BB the show, itself, could’ve turned people away from using because there are zero studies to counter that argument but that’s disingenuous claim to make at best. Personally, I feel more comfortable looking at all the other numerous studies looking at drug and alcohol usage influenced through media, in general, and applying that data to the picture at hand because that is a rational thing to do.
For a lay example - why don’t news outlets publish suicide rates? Because it increases suicide. Just because it looks bad in the broad scheme doesn’t mean it has none or an anti-influence. That’s not how this works. I can think of other media influencing mob behavior: Flash mobs. The increase of street takeovers in a post Fast and Furious world. How little girls think they need to look like some twig on the runway. How little boys think they have to hide their emotions because the machismo men on their favorite shows do so. How Bhutan’s GNH (presumably - the documentation has all but vanished from online sources I had read from in the aughts - shoulda saved it back in the day…) fell after the introduction of Western Media. And so on…
People are easily influenced, man. They teach in journalism school (yes, I went) the average American reading and comprehension level is at the equivalent of the third grade. When you see mofos out there believing Q-Anon conspiracies without second guessing you know that fact isn’t far off. We’re not anywhere near as evolved a you want to believe.
Exhibit C) roadkillbuffet
Tumblr media
I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not but Breaking Bad was not the first gay kiss on television…
But also… if the comment isn’t sarcasm or a troll then - “but Breaking Bad was the first gay kiss on tv therefore if you’re calling a meth based television show out you are homophobic” - is a piss poor argument to make for the queer community. Of which I am in, btw.
If that were actually true and BB was the first show to validate queer relationships then how homophobic is Hollywood to take that first dive into validating queer lives in a show about meth? I’m going to guess this is a sarcasm response though. No one can be that off base… can they?
Exhibit D) "I can't read this" Cool. Go back to your basic memes.

I am so tired of people acting as if actions, singular or otherwise, should define a human being forever and always like people can't make mistakes, do wrong and learn better, or change what they do and who they are.
I am so tired of people conflating logical explanations and rational deep thinking that tries to explore causality with making "excuses" for obvious repercussions due to circumstances, or condoning evil shit like it doesn't matter and there's no way to prevent it because they're "just monsters".
This thinking is what's wrong with society.
This thinking is what leads ex-cons to call it quits on reintegration and commit more crimes to get thrown back in jail because hey, they may be used for slave labor, may be mistreated and dehumanized, but at least they can eat.
Let's see what happens when you make a mistake or do the wrong thing and not a single goddamn person lets you breathe for it, coming down on you like you're the devil showing your own stupid humanity for a single second. God forbid you have an unpopular opinion in a closed minded space.
I am so tired of common sense being uncommon. I am so tired of the hostility towards anyone who's not a perfect angel, like that's a realistic standard to hold humans to? Or fuck it, canon ideas that make a fave not a perfect angel or even "drawing a line" at one specific crime.
I am so tired of people being so damn media illiterate and incapable of basic reading comprehension. I am so tired of the double standards and hypocrisy.
I am so tired of people being "confused" by media literally designed to make them think. I am so tired of people being obtuse and purposely misconstruing a message or making up bullshit to villainize an author or their work.
How does anyone fuck up author's intent so badly? What is so hard about differentiating reality from fiction? Context clues are taught in 4th and 5th grade, how are people this willfully ignorant? Are they just trolls?
Is it just the constant battle of nature vs. nurture, of perception and personal bias that leaves people blind and unwilling to see past their own preconceived world views?
Why are we still here? Just to suffer?
Ducks are fucking rapists. Yet they are still a well loved animal for many people.
Most if not all animals are murderers. Hamsters frequently eat their own babies.
Nature has a way of working itself out to promote survival, regardless of the cost. If you treat someone like an animal without giving them the chance to define themselves and who they want to be, they will act like an animal. They will survive.
Fucking Megamind taught us that!
If you're someone that thinks a villain like Homelander, who has literally been through the worst possible shit a human being could ever go through and then some, a guy who is clearly, very clearly mentally unwell, is completely beyond saving or proper help and treatment?
You have lost the plot and are part of the problem. Ableist as all hell too.
Please, for the love of God people, get yourselves educated. There is so much that's easy access in the age of the Internet. I promise, education and understanding is how we make the world a better place.
Not all this... Performative stupidity.

I seriously think I’m speaking to a three year old because there’s no way you can be older than a toddler with how stupid you are. If you are older, please consider going back to school because you’re not gonna get far in life with your lack of common sense and underdeveloped brain. There is no way you can call me illiterate when you literally started your reply with, ‘not you’re mad’ and ended with ‘stay one that Jujutsu Kaisen season two’. And in your first reply you did get your ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ mixed up - you used ‘your’ when it should’ve been ‘you’re so scared’. Now please tell me if that made any sense. Take your head out of your ass and admit how much of an imbecile you are.
Love don’t worry about if I have a job or not, I know I am and will be fine but it’s you that you should be worried about right now. I don’t think you can get a job with your stupidity and illiteracy - no wonder why you read manga, bro just follows the pictures and ignores all the actual writing. Please do yourself and everyone else a favour and log off of Tumblr and every other social and pick up an actual book.
Oh come on now, don’t be a coward and avoid my question. I’ll stop bothering you when you either answer what media you are planning to consume soon or admit that you putting a Gojo spoiler without any spoiler warning and under a Toji tag was idiotic and insensitive (even though you strongly disagree - I’m sorry I didn’t know we had a new Joker over here- not that you have the IQ to be able to pull that off). I’m sorry that I’m the only honest person in your life to say you are insensitive. I bet you don’t even know what that word means given that your literacy and comprehension skills are very limited. So I’ll help you out a bit (because I doubt you can even spell it) and give you a definition, ‘insensitive’ (an adjective) - showing or feeling no concern for other’s feelings. A synonym would be ‘inconsiderate’. You can’t prove me wrong that those words don’t describe you. It was a big spoiler and I know it because you were probably crying over it and in your post you literally say you’re not ‘reading jjk anymore idc’ - therefore, you had no right in spoiling it for others, get that into your thick head and small fish brain.
I’m sorry I didn’t know you were a sheep and posting spoilers without warnings because, ‘literally everyone on here isn’t’. Are you that daft? Just because everyone isn’t, doesn’t mean it’s not wrong. Bro are you saying that if the purge happened and everyone was out wreaking havoc, you’d do the same thing and still say it’s not wrong? Are you a child that doesn’t know right from wrong? Please for the love of God, for your own future and safety, go back to school.
TLDR: stfu and tell me your opinion when you have a present dad x and sorry if this was too much writing for your bozo self to process mwah.
I think I'm speaking to someone who dropped out of school, like literally dropped out of school in the 7th grade. Because if YOU'RE SO SCARED OF SPOILERS WHY ARE YOU ON TUMBLR?? LIKE I FUCKING SAID YOU PEOPLE HAVE SERIOUS ISSUES. IF YOU DONT READ THE NEW CHAPTERS THEN THATS, ON WHO??? ITS ON YOU. and why are you harassing me about my spelling?? Bitch it's fucking Tumblr, I'm not writing a thesis, a research paper or even a fucking essay. If I wanted to write a whole fucking article and then yes I would make sure that my spellings of both 'your' and 'you're were correct. However IM NOT. AND IDGAF. So why tf would I care if I spelt something wrong or mixed a few words up???. You bitches are talentless, jobless, bored and can't fucking read nor write and still live with YOURE parents in their BASEMENT. AND WANNA COME AFTER ME BECAUSE YOU GOT SPOILED. BITCH I DONT CARE IF YOU DIDNT READ THE CHAPTER AND FOUND OUT GOJO IS DEAD!!!!! BECAUSE SOCIAL MEDIA HAS SPOILERS E V E R Y W H E R E. DONT COME ONLINE AND YOU WONT GET SPOLUED THEN YOU FUCKING ASSHAT. YOUR mother must have dropped your special ass on the head as a baby, because why are you at YOUR grown ass age GOING ON DIFFERENT PROFILES TO HARASS ME ABOUT A FICTIONAL FUCKING CHARACTER. I just fucking know you don't take baths OR EVEN WASH THAT FUCKING FILTHY ASS OF YOURS. it's fucking disgusting that YOUR Neanderthal ass came on here to give me a hard time because you what??? Can't keep up with the chapters when it releases??? Not my problem fucktard. And I'll tag my fucking posts with whatever I want. And I did answer your question, I said and I quote I don't care sweetie. So why don't you go to sleep and roll over on that cockroach infested ass floor mattress you sleep on every night. Roll over and go get caught up to the new chapters. Imagine trying to harass someone because YOU live in a section 8 apartment, with 15 other family members, have roaches and rats crawling all over you while you sleep and mad at me. NOBODY GIVES A FUCK ABOUT YOU!!! I'm just sure YOURE a fucking foster child whose mother and father left your Crack baby ass in foster care. Because there's no way that someone who had a loving, family or SUPPORT SYSTEM IS THIS BOTHERED. AND IF YOU'RE SO FUCKING BRAVE WHY WERE YOU POSTING ANONYMOUSLY??? GET A LIFE YOU SMALL BRAINED, LONELY, PATHETIC, NEANDERTHAL ASS BITCH. I HOPE YOU TOSS AND TURN ON THAT FLOOR MATTRESS YOU SHARE WITH YOU 8 SIBLINGS EVERY NIGHT.
and stop coming on my page, mad ass., stupid ass, MONKEY ASS BITCH.

You're going to say my posts were condescending? Wait until you read this one.
You're going to block me and then continue to tag me in unrelated posts so that I can't even respond?
Can you not take the heat?
I explicitly agreed with you that George Lucas does not have good writing. And then said that you're still asking him to TELL you things that are already there for you to see. Like the fact that there were conversations we were not privy to as fans that happened between people like Bail and Yoda, Obi Wan and Bail, Obi Wan and Owen and Beru, Bail and the Naberrie family, Bail and Padmé, and Obi Wan and Padmé.
You claiming the Naberrie family was completely uninvolved and kept in the dark is a head canon. There is no in-movie evidence to suggest this happened.
Hell, I could claim that Kenobi is being paid under the table in the new TV show because we never see him negotiate pay and present documents to his employer. Is there evidence for this? No. Is there anything to suggest this isn't the case? Not technically... but there is a lot of evidence people could use to refute my claim. A lot more than I would have to defend it.
I suggested that the pop-cultural "the curtains are just blue" hot take is a cancer on media literacy. That's not a dig at your intelligence. That's a fact. A dig at your intelligence would have been telling you that you're illiterate, which I never did.
I said you're asking George Lucas to hold your hand through this, which isn't a dig at your intelligence. Saying you need your hand held would be a dig at your intelligence. But as this has been explained to you several times, now, yah... it seems you need your hand held. Is that calling you stupid? No.
Hell, you're clearly smart enough to misrepresent people's arguments.
But, judging by how you took my "lets not compare Leia's adoption to the Catholic Church's hand in genocide" to mean "the Jedi are indigenous," yah... I'd say you do lack comprehension skills.
You should really ask for a refund on that degree.
It's not condescending to suggest we don't compare two magical space children getting adopted to avoid being found by a magical space emperor to a literal genocide. It's not condescending to tell you not to use a public abuse trial that people literally turned into a "fandom war" to discredit someone.
And it's certainly not condescending to tell people to stop fucking tagging me in their fucking posts.
Oh, it's also not condescending to defend black and brown creators who do character redesign art that makes characters black or brown like them. And it's not condescending to remind you that George Lucas was inspired by Samurai films.
There isn't a single condescending thing in either of my responses to you. I asked you not to disrespect me. I asked you not to call me a bitch. I asked you not to misrepresent my arguments.
When I come in and say:
"There is no evidence to suggest Jedi kidnapped kids."
And your response is:
"I never said the Jedi deserved to die."
That is misrepresenting my argument. Because I literally never said that you said those things. I took screenshots of your posts before you changed them to edit the parts that made little sense in the context of everything we were discussing.
Your replies to my posts sound like a scripted response. Like you expected me to say a couple things you've heard before and your go to was "I never said!" So, you were woefully unprepared when I came back with, "I never said you said."
I have given you patient piece of evidence after evidence, including reminding you that the Jedi- Obi Wan and Yoda- were Anakin's legal family and thus had every say in the fate of those kids.
And your response is that I called you a racist and a DV apologist and a child hater? When none of those left my damn mouth?
Tumblr media
I'd like you to point me to where I called you a slur. Because I know that I wasn't the one throwing bitch around.
I give you a well-rounded argument and your response is to suggest I must just want to fuck Obi Wan Kenobi? Kenobist?
Because I certainly do nothing but defend Bail Organa or Obi Wan Kenobi on my blog (/sar). I've certainly never reblogged or written posts that criticize Bail Organa for voting for the Clone Army (/sar). Or written posts criticizing codywan fans for their fucking whitesaviorism (/sar). I've certainly never made a post talking about how we need to stop infantilizing grown men (/sar). And I've always maintained that the Jedi order is perfect- actually perfect- in every way (/sar).
If you wanted to bring up the ethics of adoption- and closed adoption in particular- then write that post. If you think there are inherent consent issues in adoption, then say so. Make that argument. But do not compare the adoption of magical space children to real life adoptions. Especially considering that OUR real life history of adoption has a checkered past with race and genocide.
By comparing two magical white space babies to what has happened in our country and in our adoption systems- mostly to black and brown children- you downplay the horrors of genocide.
You aren't even addressing my main points anymore. You're attempting to garner sorrow when you've realized that the take you committed yourself to defend tooth and nail might not actually be the hot take it is.
And look who's actually trying to call in the cronies to defend her:
Tumblr media
What? Can't make an argument without having a gang to jump someone with?

I do legit wonder sometimes how many semi illiterate people I'm dealing with in life
And to be clear, this isn't a judgement of someone if they are any degree of illiterate, it's about the kind of larger problem
Concrete example:
Once sent an email to the power company roughly saying "I was wondering if you had any programs that can assist with figuring out what's drawing the most power in a home so as to look into making things more energy efficient"
The person who responded has a lot of typos and more or less said "If something is drawing too much power you'll need to contact an electrician to figuring out why it's doing that"
Can you see why I legit wonder if this person maybe isn't entirely literate? How yes, I can see where they drew the conclusion, but if you look at what was first said there's nothing about stuff drawing excessive power, it's about trying to use less power as a household, but that point seemed to be totally missed
And it does feel like while we joke about it... people really do have some bad reading comprehension. Not saying mine is always perfect, but that if something pisses me off I usually read through it a couple times before replying and sometimes go "ah... good news, they weren't saying what I thought they were saying at first"
Once again, not judging people. Literacy or lack of it isn't really some personal virtue or failing, it's kind of a lot more about the system
I just do wonder how many of the people (not even in social media, in like businesses I've dealt with via written correspondence) are only semi literate, and that's the big reason why if feels like we're talking past each other

Luckily I think I have a knack for languages but only for different aspects of each one? lol. Like, I grew up watching/listening to a lot of Japanese stuff (anime, dramas, music) so I have decent listening/hearing comprehension for it--enough that I was able to communicate with Japanese exchange students in college (I'd answer them in English, which they also had a working understanding of, or in my simple baby Japanese lol). But I cannot for the life of me understand kanji so I'm always going to be Japanese illiterate 🥲 (My brother is also learning Japanese so my catchphrase for whenever he shows me anything is "I can't read this!" lol)
I picked up Hangul real quick and I get the grammar structure now, but my Korean vocab is so all over the place that I can read/write but not know what anything means lmao. I'm hoping I'll absorb it naturally by watching and listening to more Korean media but the school year is so busy. I'm hoping I'm not too mentally dead by the end of June so I can activate all my brain cells this summer vacation to hopefully get fluent 🤓
At least my pronunciation for both languages is decent so I can sing in them now 👍 Let's both aim for "being able to watch shows in the background" proficiency 🤝 because tbh that's what I'll be using any language for the most...
-👻✌️
I love learning languages, which is probably why I picked up linguistics quickly despite never taking a class before grad school. My brother (who is 18 years older than me and literally a genius) accidently picked up Japanese. Like he literally was buying manga to look at the art mostly because he's an artist and went "oh, I can actually read this" and got his hands on more Japanese media. So when I came around he literally raised me on jdramas and read me manga to bed and play me jpop consistently. He's genuinely upset that I'm not fluent like him by now, but I'm also stupid. But at the same time, I also grew up speaking English, French, and Haitian creole (literally the only one of my sibs to pick up the last two, perks of being the youngest). So I think a 4th language would have been too much for my little brain. But I literally retained none of the Spanish I learned in school despite learning it for 13 years and picked up French in 2 (had to do 2 years for college). And I keep picking up French books and reading French posts and being like "oh, I can actually read this" (like brother like sister I guess).
I think I know more Japanese than I actually do because I can watch subbed shows relatively quickly and I've caught myself looking away from the screen while drawing or something and forgetting to look up again and still being able to follow. But ask me to read something and I'm lost. I'm literally learning to read bc one of my fav video game series published a side story book and it's only in Japanese and my brother says I'm too old for him to read for me 😭 (asshole) and nobody has translated the book yet despite there being an English following of the game. But pronunciation wise I'm okayish with japanese since my brother made sure to drill me on how to read when how things are written out in romaji. Compared to watching anything in Korean, I still have to pause for subs sometimes, but that might just be because of how some of them are timed. I'm an auditory learner/person so I think I'm better learning that way. I bought some workbooks for both Japanese (elementary so it should be kanji and hiragana, maybe katakana I think) and Hangul and they both come with audio components so I should be set. Literally, the way I would study for English vocab test back in middle school and high school would be me listening to my friends study together and I would pass every time. So I think if I consume enough Korean and Japanese media I should be able to pick those up too.
I am so sorry for rambling but you hit one of my favorite topics/ special interest and I couldn't help myself 😅 But yes, let's both aim for "being able to watch shows in the background" proficiency!

Reading political theory and history is one of things where to get good at it, you just have to do it. Yes, it can take a few readings to really get it. If you're really having trouble with a book, maybe pick up a different one on your list and come back to it. Or form a reading group with like-minded individuals, which was how many socialist groups worked through political theory & history with largely illiterate populations. There's also lots of summaries, reviews, and comprehension question sets online that can help. As an example:
"Nevertheless, illiterate activists found creative ways to overcome their inability to read and write, which included having Party material read to them. The Party formed study groups that read works in pamphlet form, ranging from James Allen's Negro Liberation and Lenin's What Is to Be Done to Marx and Engels's Communist Manifesto. By mid-1934, the Bessemr section of the Party designated one half-hour of each meeting for study-fifteen minutes of reading aloud and fifteen minutes devoted to discussion. Local leaders made literate members responsible for tutoring their illiterate comrades by establishing partners who met on a regular basis and read Communist tabloids together."
- Hammer & Hoe, Alabama Communists During the Great Depression, by Robin Kelley
The anti-intellectualism of the modern American left is a historical aberration, spitting in the face of every successful socialist movement in history, which focused on the education & uplifting of the masses. I would go so far as to argue that "anti-theory" folks are truly anti-proletarian, in their belief that the working class is too stupid to understand reality.
A firm understanding of materialism & history will be more important than ever in the coming decades, with the absurd power of social media propaganda in favor of existing institutions.

Do you think mercds and hamltn fans believe what they write or it is just for likes? Saw them calling FIA biased towards Red Bull and Max, how he doesn't deserve to win the championship like he didn't have a better season than their fave and Fraudstappen or stg, tagging their nonsense in Max's tag. Literally can't believe we watch the same sport
Anon, people enjoy hating on stuff together, alright? Hate is a very strong emotion and it certainly gives a strange sense of satisfaction and a surge of power if people have lots of others with them on the same side. It gives them a sense of belonging, unity, righteousness and an ego boost like winning a fight.
The psychology behind this is ridiculous actually. They feel angry and upset at times, but also it gives them serotonin and adrenaline when they see how the defenders are struggling and miserable, see how they can hurt others with words/actions... The surge/rush it gives is addictive, because it provides a safe outlet to be cruel and monsterous together with others/hiding among them and feeling righteous about wanting to destroy/hurt their object of hate emotionally/physically/etc.
Feeds a primal and very primitive urge, right? And doing all this shit behind the anonymity of the internet doubles the satisfaction and the sense of security. Otherwise, why should people send death threats/go-kill-yourself messages/abuse of any and all kind to others just because they aren't supporting their fav team/loving their fav actor/etc.
So, while fans might actually genuinely believe the bullshit that's fed to them (as most people here and twitter have proven to be illiterate or incapable of reading comprehension) i believe at least some of them just continue with their agenda out of spite and a need to hide their wrong way of thinking.
It is also amazing the way their team boss is acting. He is also quite aware of his own indignancy and childish attitude, but big monies are at stake, Anon. So, instead of owning up to your bullshit like a true bastard™️ that i admire some were/are being, acting like a wronged angel is the easiest way for their already established underdogs/heros without capes narrative.
My stance on his bullshittery is evident. And while the stewards making mostly idiotic and inconsistent decisions since forever is a known fact and should be challanged and changed, what they decided here isn't how Max deserves a penalty or not. They decided that the front cam view of Max's car isn't sth that provides a new/better evidence on whether their in-race decision should be reconsidered.
But look, T.to successfully twisted this into "We wanted to learn how much elbow we can also push out, not that we were expecting a punishment". Like, okay T.to... This doesn't sound any sinister at all coupled with you twice saying you need Max to have a DNF... Go and let Lew.s or V.ltteri smash Max into a wall again and cry about how this time you get a penalty? Then, you'll have a "valid" reason to show how biased the stewards are towards RB...
Should Max have gotten a penalty? I am no expert as even the experts are divided about the subject. Even L.wis said he didn't expect anything to come out of it, because he would do the same and he will do the same. So, at best it would have been a 5/10 secs penalty. And a loss of 3 CPs from Max. If Max does this again, he'll be treated with more scrutiny and harshness, I am sure.
Yet, the real focus should be on how the argument and the situation is twisted here by Merc.des and how the media is amplifying their completely shameless and tasteless tone and discourse and everyone is nodding along or outright crying for blood.

I really hate how a lot of the posts seem to say that Nicky forced joe to go to the club and then forced him to be “okay” with Nazis. Did they miss Nicky immediately wanting to fight the Nazi when he called joe a dog and JOE holding him back? Did they miss JOE saying “one quiet night” when they went after the Nazi? Did they also miss how, in the flashback scene, it’s “we” a couple times and joe literally says to Nicky “you would have never have let her rot there”?
People have focused on him teasing Joe about them not being able to have a night off as though it’s him being evil and a Nazi sympathizer. The lack of reading comprehension, nuance, and general historical knowledge kills me. Apparently them being in the Weimar Republic in 1932 means they should always be fighting each and every Nazi or nazi sympathizer they come across. Even in a crowded club when they’re at the fucking Eldorodo.
And Nicky forcing him to go? Nicky being evil? A Nazi sympathizer? What the heck? Does Joe no longer have any agency of his own? Do people hate joe this much (I know they hate Nicky but they claim to love joe)? Because if Nicky is some horrid character to you (general you)... how do you explain joe loving him so damn much?? How do you justify that in your mind? That you perfect joe loves a (checks list) “illiterate, dirty, villainous, Nazi sympathizer, cold, bloodthirsty” man, and has for centuries? Because that makes no sense to me. If you think half the ship is evil what’s the damn point of shipping it?
Then saying Nicky is out of character... this is CANON MATERIAL. holy shit. If you don’t like canon ignore it. This is reminding me of how, when Gina, Greg, Luca and Marwan, where talking about Nicky is the most open/the heart of the group/etc... these same people called them WRONG. You can disagree with canon, say you would do it differently, ignore it... but it’s not wrong. And fuck, we wouldn’t have these characters if not for Greg. He’s not the enemy just because you don’t like the source material.
I love the characters but holy shit, this fandom is one of the worst I’ve ever been in. No reading comprehension, no nuance, literally ignores history (especially when it comes to Nicky), and tumblr takes from random users are taken as fact.
I feel like this fandom is in love with the idea of making Joe weak, almost a victim, even when it doesn’t really make sense. He is a man in his thirties with agency, an education, means to go anywhere he pleases. I guess there could be an argument for abusive relationships, an inability for him to leave, how even big strong men can go through it, but... it never seems to be the case they are making.
It’s just general dislike for a character while trying to prop up the other. A true case of the “I’m not like other girls” that you can often find in YA novels written by authors who are unable to write their main character without comparing her to another female character. The problem is that it’s often supported by absolutely crazy ideas that are founded on ignorance: Nicky was dirty and illiterate, while Joe was a Renaissance man before the Renaissance.
It’s perfectly valid to not like canon, but it usually happens with medias that have been going on for long periods of time, multiple seasons or entire sagas. In the movie all the characters were written coherently, Andy didn’t switch personality midway through, nor did any of the others. Booker’s reasons were understandable, Nicky’s continuous need to say things through quotable sentences didn’t change, Joe was basically a ray of sunshine until he was betrayed by his best friend.
For the rest... it’s really tiring. The main headcanons are dictated by people who have no idea of how American they sound, how different the rest of the world is from the US, and just how narrow their point of view is. Added to that, there is also a huge Evangelical presence in the fandom, even if it comes from people who have left the church a long time ago.
Nizar received death threats, Lucy was forced to change her url, Odyssxus had to out trauma in order to be left alone, and I have my askbox filled with Americans who want to “educate” me about how the issue of race and ethnicity is seen in Europe despite them being clearly not from a Mediterranean country, ending up to sound like members of one of the far right parties we have in Italy.
I honestly have no idea of what they’re trying to achieve, by harassing people, but... good for them for thinking that their little online power trip is actually political activism.

Criticism. As writers, sooner or later we’re likely to encounter it. How we deal with it – either internally or externally – depends greatly on our personality, and also I suppose, on what sort of place we’re in at any particular moment.
Here are some of my thoughts on the subject.
So someone posted a nasty remark on one of your social media book shares, or left a shitty 1 star review and a harshly-worded comment for you on Amazon. You stare at it, re-read it a second time just to try and absorb any sense or usefulness in the words as you fight a rising tide of red anger surging up from your chest area.
Why did they do that? Was the book really all that bad? Was there really something wrong with your writing? How could they be so mean – don’t they realize I pored my heart and soul into this? Is what they said in any way helpful or – no matter how remote – possibly true?
There is a huge difference between someone being helpful (or trying to be) to a writer. “Perhaps you should’ve made the story longer? It was great – just too short!” or “You misspelled ‘bureaucracy’ on page 11!” are examples of positive criticism. My mom always used to praise my writing talent, but frequently criticized my choice in genre – she didn’t enjoy sci-fi – she suggested I write in more contemporary, mundane settings… in genres like suspense, drama, action and adventure! I used to counter with “but I can do that in sci-fi too!”
That sort of criticism is helpful, positive and constructive in nature – and they can be discerned on the basis of their intentions to help the writer to grow or improve their writing, not to break them down for it, or even to cause them to stop writing altogether.
There are numerous and even perhaps unfathomable reasons for people to criticize a writer or their writing in writing – by leaving nasty remarks, bad reviews and even by sending them hate-mail – and on the unhelpful side, they include everything from simple jealousy to disagreement with the writer or their statements, and even disapproval of their subject and the way they address or present it often form part of the motivation for it.
In the following example, a reader downloaded a FREE eBook of mine – a short story called “Death By Vampire”. They left a poor review and a rant on Barnes & Noble.
“This book was only 19 pgs. Had potential. ***spoiler seemed to have a lot of unnecessary information. Also the description of the blood diamonds didn’t make any sense, they are named for their color but the color is green? Needs some editing.” 2 stars – Anonymous
I know this person didn’t actually READ the story, because inside it there was a whole paragraph that EXPLAINED how the aliens called the green stones ‘blood diamonds’ because they had GREEN blood – but it “needs some editing” because he didn’t understand it? All this guy did was expose his illiteracy!
As to length, it was a free short story, but he obviously missed that part too.  Yet that story now has a 2-star review and a snotty comment from someone who obviously has problems with comprehension – and a narcissistic mean streak.
What can I take home from this? Not much – just that some people are basically mean-spirited and will make me the scapegoat for their own failures… but then, being part of an oft-persecuted social grouping blamed for everything from stock-market crashes to natural disasters, that’s nothing new to me. Should I take it personally? I’d like to think not – after all, what real value does unfair criticism really have?
In a technical sense, is there anything I can change or improve on the item involved? Were the words or sentences not clear enough? Were they confusing? Was a thorough spelling and grammar check done during the editing process? I honestly can’t see how I can make the story – or the facts of the story – any clearer without resorting to formatting the eBook using neon lettering, or replacing them with pictures to cater for the illiterate ‘reader’.
Moving on, negative reviews left at book sellers can and do damage a writer’s reputation – and in the long-run, their income. Reviews and ratings affect sales and distribution after all, mainly because readers will be more inclined to look at a book that has a bunch of 4 and 5 star ratings rather than a book that has one or many 1 or 2 stars. Let’s look at an example:
A few years ago I witnessed a writer falling under attack from his former small press, their writers – and everyone else they could rally to their cause. Lies and slander were spread broadly, and I personally witnessed calls being made for their cohort of cronies to ostracize him from the writing community and to even leave negative 1-star reviews on all his books! Other tactics and dirty tricks were employed against this poor undeserving writer, but this one is pertinent to my example. Suffice to say, that writer suffered a breakdown, has disappeared from social media – and hasn’t publishing anything since 2016. In that case it’s safe to say the bullies and haters won.
Any hostile criticism of our work as writers tends to have the potential to cause a writer to doubt themselves. Often that can also be one of the reasons why people leave nasty remarks – the writer or their work has (for whatever reason) offended them – and their intention might be to hurt them out of some feeling of vengeance or satisfaction. Some people, like the unfortunate author in my example are less resilient in the face of such attacks – while others, like me – well, I just don’t care for what the nasties say – anyway, I have more than enough fan-mail and great reviews to compensate. As far as I’m concerned, it’s water off a ducks back – and I’m a very oily duck.
Naturally, there are some things that spring to mind for every writer when faced with stinging and even personal criticism: are they right about me? Are they right about my work? After all, your writing might be utter crap laced with spelling and grammatical errors – and the story might make no sense, have plot holes big enough to drive a bus through, and your characterizations might be almost non-existent – right?
Are these critics giving you advice on how to improve your work? Is there anything of value in their ‘feedback’ you can learn from and use to produce a better story?
If the answer is no, and you’ve reason to believe they’re just being vindictive – such as making personal attacks and indulging in name-calling without giving any serious or pertinent pointers on how to improve your work, then their criticism is actually weaponized hatred intended to break you down! Let’s be honest – when someone criticizes your hard work, your ‘baby’, your pride and joy – it hurts a bit! Part of the answer – not the sum total of it – is of course to grow a thick skin.
Tumblr media
In my particular case, I write in the science fiction and horror genres – as well as in non-fiction from time to time. While a lot of my fiction writing contains the usual sci-fi or horror elements, some of it also focuses on LGBT issues and presents these in a sympathetic and favorable light – which naturally draws ire and derogatory remarks from the prejudiced and bigoted who seemingly can’t resist leaving snotty comments on social media ads or shares of my work.
Tumblr media
It’s not that my work is badly written or poorly presented – it’s that they despise the people I use as heroes and heroines in my stories and dare to explain and promote them in the face of their ignorance and hatred. I defy the established anti-LGBT stereotypes – and I flaunt it. It’s also that, once they do a little background check, they realize that I’m also part of that same group they’ve been programmed to despise! Add to that, once they confront me and I not only stand up to them, but also trounce them in a debate, that really makes them foam at the mouth!
How dare I? How dare I stand in the open, unashamedly writing about people they hate in a good positive way? How dare I not feel any guilt? How dare I even exist?
#gallery-0-10 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-10 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-10 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
In the below example, I held a free e-book giveaway contest in my Facebook author group in August 2016. I gave away a few books to contest winners. Soon after, the South African right wing ‘Christian’ (aka Levitican) community on Facebook went nuts about me promoting ‘demonic writings’, ‘homosexuality, sodomy and demon worship’! It was truly surreal!
Tumblr media
The vast majority of the hate-mail I’ve gathered over the years – and remember the ones I’m showing you in this article are just since the advent of Facebook, from about 2016 or so – have been directed at me for sharing my books or writing or website!
Many of these people express negative ideas and emotions towards me because I’m transgender, a lesbian, an atheist – and because I’ve steadfastly refused to remain silent in the face of the overwhelming wave of hatred looming for numerous diverse minority groups in the world today. This provides one reason – albeit a big one – why most of my hostile critics and haters are what they are, or at least explains why they’re hostile toward me and to my writing.
#gallery-0-11 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-11 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-11 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-11 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
My advice when receiving this sort of hate-mail or harsh personal criticism is “take it from whom it comes” – which means, consider who the person is that’s criticizing you or your work, and what their real reasons are for doing so – and give it a value or rating. Is their opinion worth your time? Are they trying to be helpful – or are they simply being hurtful? Should you even take what they say seriously? Should you care? Most of the time I laugh at the voluntary idiocy, poor grammar and spelling in the hate-mail sent my way, and casually toss it in the pile.
I have a use for haters and hate-mail you see, and they’re too obtuse to even realize it.
#gallery-0-12 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-12 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-12 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-12 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
By far most of my critics and haters are religious extremist fanatics who engage in lunatic fringe politics and vent homophobic, transphobic and often racist language because they see me as more than just an enemy of their personal beliefs – but the personification thereof.
99% of the time, the people sending me hate-mail or criticizing me as a writer are attacking ME directly as an individual, not the worth or quality of my writing. I’ve also had the occasional odd-ball attack me using the fact that I’m self-published as though it means I’m somehow ‘illegitimate’ and not a ‘real author’, when all this does is reveal their ignorance about the publishing industry.
Tumblr media
Here’s a clue, peeps – if self-publishing was in any way dishonest or dishonorable, I would have nothing to do with it. If was in any way, shape or form embarrassed or ashamed of self-publishing my work – or under the impression that it was in any way inferior to books by the big dogs, I wouldn’t be openly marketing myself or my writing as self-published!
It’s worth mentioning that within that same group of people who’ve sent me outright hate-mail, I’ve yet to encounter a single one who’s actually READ any of my books – they’re people who simply seized an opportunity to vent their hatred for me as a person because at that moment I represented the thing they hate.
In that light, this means that while my writing is good, even excellent, it is in their view ‘rubbish’ because what I write (or what I write about) contradicts their indoctrinated belief structure. To the folks who almost invariably misapply basic English words like “they’re/their/there” and “your/you’re”, I’m a ‘libral dirtbag’, a ‘libtard’, a ‘Christophobe’, a ‘commie queer’ and an ‘atheist fascist’ – and somehow inferior to them, not just because I’m part of the LGBT social group – but because I’m not afraid, acquiescent, silent or invisible.
I remind myself that these same characters tend to treat anyone more intelligent or in any way qualified, capable or talented than themselves – like scientists, doctors, artists – writers – and a variety of qualified professionals the exact same dismissive way – and I see them for what they are.
Over the last few decades of internet use, I’ve accumulated an archive of hateful remarks of all kinds, from people determined to convince me of the validity and value of their ignorance, to those who resort to childish mockery and blatant name-calling. (You can view it here if you like.)
I’ve always lived by the motto “if you piss off the right people, you’re doing something right”!
One fella wearing the crazy-pants ranted about how my children’s book on bullying, “Other Kids Are Kids Almost Just Like You” – aimed to teach children compassion for others – would ‘turn kids gay’ and that it was child abuse and I ought to be arrested!
Tumblr media
So how do I handle hate-mail? Easy. I shrug it off, have a few good laughs – then save it, take screenshots of it – and use it as promotional material! In fact, I actually look forward to getting hate-mail these days!
After all, so many haters can’t be wrong, can they? 😉
I hope you’ve found this useful!
Take care and have a lovely day!

Nigerians react as IG of police, Idris struggles to read own speech
Tumblr media
Nigerians on social media have reacted to a video of the Inspector General of Police,Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a speech in Kano.
In the viral video, the IG, who visited Kano on Monday to commission the Police Technical Intelligence unit in the State stammered severally as he struggled to pronounce his words.
After failed attempts to get his speech right, the IGP, apologised to his audience.
The clip, however,, stirred up reactions online as Nigerians mocked him for his inability to read his prepared speech. Some described the situation as ’embarrassing and a shame to the Nigeria Police force.
When DAILY POST contacted the Force Public Relations Officer, Moshood Jimoh on the ‘authenticity of the video, he simply said, “Yes we have seen it , but you can call back later.”
Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter:
@ArchieWonda, ”I feel really embarrassed and ashamed right now. How did this man get to be the IGP? Is this the same man Buhari retired his seniors in the force so he can make IGP? This is really hard to believe. Nigerians, see your the head of your force.”
@ahmadugombe ”The Nigeria Police Force should declare Mr. Transmission wanted for causing so much apprehension to our comprehension. As we say in Africa, between his village elders and Dino’s kinsmen, the IGP has offended some people.”
@YemieFASH SHAMEFUL: ”Kindly watch the almighty Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris as he disgraces himself and his entire community. Is this the man said to have a degree in law?”
@jacksonpbn, ”President has no WASCE, IGP cannot read, anti corruption adviser forged WAEC, Cabinet clueless, Cronies all thieves. Citizens aloof, uniformed. What a country!”
@ Emilin, ”Anyone remembers the Magu interview with Chamberlain of ChannelsTV? Compare with the IGP’s struggle to read his speech and see the kind of illiterates we have as leaders.”
@Chxta, ”Different kids have different needs, but here we only think of bright kids, and olodo. That mentality is what is propelling the derision to an IGP that is more likely dyslexic. Focus people. His real sin isn’t dyslexia, it’s insubordination to the National Assembly.”
@allibaloo, ”There’s no way the IGP will be struggling to pronounce “ transmission “ and then he turns to another page and the same word confronted him “ transmission. The whole prepared speech can’t be about transmission now.”
@Swtch, ”Abeg which #IGP? The glorified illiterate that cannot read ordinary typescript handed over to him, even when the person that drafted it for him stood by reading out for him, he still couldn’t read out.”
@aminugamawa, ”If that video of IG of @PoliceNG is fake or doctored, I expected the police to immediately issue a statement clarifying the situation. They should even show us the real video, if that one was doctored. The video is all over the social media. It makes the IGP look bad & unprepared.”
@Jide_Olusola,” This is a national embarrassment from the IGP Idris while reading a speech. Was he drunk or under a spiritual attack. Or is he dyslexic. Something is wrong somewhere.”
@TunjiAndrews, ”Seeing the IGP shamed for how he was reading, Well, it’s a thing that happens to dyslexic people (on and off)Not saying that’s the issue here but it looks very much the case. He obviously doesn’t know his condition either or he’d have just stopped reading,”
@yinkanubi, ”This is so embarrassing. This guy cannot read and it will not be a stretch to assume he cannot write either. How did he get to be IGP in the first place? I will recommend a competency test to be applied on all the top brass of the NPF.”

Honda CBR 125r... Insurance price for a 17 year old?
(UK!) I'm really interested in motorbikes, and in 18 months - the painful wait - I am looking at buying my first bike, a Honda CBR 125r. Due to the low horse power of the bike, I can ride it with just a CBT after my 17th birthday if I'm not mistaken, which will reduce my costs as I won't need to take lessons and a test. With leathers, helmet, boots, gloves, CBT, as well as the bike, I worked out I would need to save at least 2200... However, I have no idea what insurance would be. I understand insurance prices fluctuate according to location etc, but I have no idea at all. So even a completely rough estimate, even if it could be out by 150 would be useful. Isn't the real problem causing a health care crisis in USA that cost of healthcare/insurance is too high?
Health care costs are out of control and so is the cost to insure. Because of the high cost of insurance many employers no longer offer what used to be a very common employee benefit. So now we millions of americans who are uninsured because they cant afford to go out and pay 600, 700,800, 900 dollars a month for private health insurance coverage. The rich and the fortunate ones with group insurance are taken care of. The ones who dont work and are on medicaid are taken care of, but the ones who are above the poverty line and work but are struggling as it is to make ends meet cannot afford the high insurance premiums and are left uninsured. We need to find a way to make health insurance and health care more affordable ..this is how people will get insurance on their own and the government will not have to tax us more to provide more free health care.""

""Why do libs think health care is a right? What next, car insurance? How about free food for everyone?""
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of 'Free' Health Care Every new 'right' the U.S. government has promised has turned into a massively expensive failure, yet the media continue to cheer supporters of tax-funded programs. Americans are obsessed with rights. We always have been. But the concept of rights our forefathers laid out in the Declaration of Independence has changed dramatically. Those rights  life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness  were acknowledged to come from the Almighty, given equally to all people. Todays rights come from Almighty Government. Health care is the newest right. From presidential candidates universal plans to the return of HillaryCare to Michael Moores movie Sicko, its all over the media. Calling it a right is an emotional argument advanced by those who want others to pay for their health care. They bring out the children and ask whether anyone can deny them the basic human right of health care  but dont bother with the evidence showing how health care in this country would be harmed by government control. A look at other modern rights might give us a clue about how well a new system would work. These rights started out as privileges, among them education and a paid retirement. Now education is not only considered a right, its a mandate. How well has it worked? American students attend school at least until their teen years, but 15-year-olds ranked 24th out of 29 countries in aptitude for real-life math problems, according to The Washington Post. Literacy surveys suggest one in five American adults is functionally illiterate. And taxpayers keep shelling out money to fund the system. Americans also cherish the right to retire  but we expect to be supported in our old age. Younger workers and employers are forced to support retirees, funding another right. And how well has that worked? The poorly designed, outdated Social Security system is disintegrating rapidly as the number of retirees balloons. But once youve established a right, its difficult to take it away. The government, which promises such rights, must go to its sugar daddy  taxpayers  to keep the rights coming. Were already well on our way toward the health care right/mandate. Want to be more like Canada? Its not that far off. Catos Michael Cannon has pointed out that third parties in America pay 86 cents of every dollar of our health care  about the same as Canadas socialized system. What we  or rather, those third parties  pay for health care is already determined by the government as well. Emory University medical professor Robert Swerlick has noted that the pricing of medical care in this country is either directly or indirectly dictated by Medicare. This market meddling even causes doctor shortages, he says, in needed areas of specialty. Prescription drugs are already considered a right, thanks to political moves like the Medicare drug benefit and massive media support. A Business & Media Institute study found broadcast journalists treating prescription drugs as though they grew on trees. Overall, the coverage supported the idea that medications should magically be available to everyone at far lower costs. Of course, the magic behind new rights is your money. Cannon and fellow Cato expert Michael Tanner explained problems with tax-funded care in their book Healthy Competition: Whats Holding Back Health Care and How to Free It. If health care is guaranteed to everyone, how much does everyone get? Who decides who receives what, and how would the care be administered? What happens if everyone wants the most expensive treatment available? With the wide variety of medical tests and treatments that consumers may claim as their right, someone at some point must decide where the right to health care ends, lest the nation be bankrupted, they wrote. Were well on our way toward that as well. Our rights to Social Security and Medicare devour about 40 percent of the federal budget. State and local property tax revenue, which normally funds education, mushroomed about 35 percent between 2000 and 2005, according to the Tax Foundation. We cant afford any more rights like that. But the left says tax-funded care is right for the children. Meanwhile, what becomes of them? Theyre growing up in an America where the rights mentality is deeply ingrained, and the media continue to feed them with it. When the children come of age, perhaps theyll want the right to a job. They wont remember that France already tested that idea for us, and it led to high unemployment and rioting. Perhaps theyll guarantee Disney vacations for all families and force childless Americans to pay for it. The pursuit of will conveniently fade away as they look to government to guarantee happiness. They will know less and less of a true right  liberty  and have no idea where it comes from.""

A family member of mine bought a car last year from a dealership and bought the insurance through them for ease, they hadn't had a car for a few years and so lost there no claims bonus however it would seem that the company put that he had a 5 years no claim bonus on anyway so that he would get his insurance cheaper, is this legal ? Also a year has now passed and so they are looking to get insurance somewhere else because other places offer even cheaper prices, however the insurance company are saying if he moves to another insurer they will say he only has 1 year no claims, but if he stays with them he can keep his 5 years no claims and that seems a little bit shifty to. I put 75K down on the house. my mortgage insurance per year is 1030 dollars. 6 bedroom/4 bathroom 3 acre home, 2400 sq feet. Is this high/average? Should I bother shopping around?""
What car insurance would be best and not so expensive?

I want to buy a used car soon. I was wondering if having an alarm system on the car would make insurance cheap?

What insurance do you recommend for a part-time photographer?
I am a part-time photographer who mostly does family portraits and children. However, I've shot one wedding this past summer, and have another planned for June. I have a couple who recently contacted me for engagement photos and they want to do them at a nearby museum (outdoors) a week from today. The museum may want insurance info, and I don't have any to provide them with. My gear: I own a Canon 5D Mark II (primary) with an L lens, as well as two Nikon cameras (5100 and d60- backup cameras). What kind of insurance do you recommend that is affordable for my part-time photography business income? I realize I may not be able to get insurance in time for this engaged couple, but would like to have it for the upcoming wedding.""
Can my car insurance company give my phone number to auto shops?
I was recently in a fender-bender, and as SOON as I made a claim with my insurance company, random auto shops started calling my cell phone (which is my only phone, I don't have a land line) stating they heard I'd been in an accident and basically were telemarketing me into fixing my car at their shop. I have Nationwide insurance, and I'm suspecting it is them who has released my information, as I didn't supply my info with anyone else, other than in the police report! Has anyone else heard of this or had this happen to them? Is there anything I can do about it, other than tell the people not to call me again!?""

Can health insurance coverage be dropped for a single department in a company? (Pennsylvania)?
I currently live in PA and my employer has said they will drop health insurance for my department, but not another department in the same company. I did some research online to see if this is possible or not. I originally started this job with guaranteed benefits and now they are being taken away. I was reading somewhere online (unsure of credibility, website is as follows:http://employee-benefits.lawyers.com/Employee-Benefits/Employer-Workplace-Benefits-FAQs.html) that a company cannot take away a certain departments health benefits and retain another departments. Below is the Q&A question from the stated website above: Q: Is my employer required to provide health benefits? A: Employers are generally not required to provide any health benefits. Only the state of Hawaii requires employers in the private sector to cover employees who work over 20 hours per week. Union contracts may include provisions for insurance as part of the agreement. However, health care and other benefits such as life or disability insurance are generally offered by employer as a means of attracting and keeping their workforce. If an employer does provide health coverage, federal law requires the employer to provide Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA) to an employee who loses her job for any reason outside of gross misconduct the opportunity to maintain coverage up to 18 months at her own expense. This applies to companies with 20 or more employees. Some states also have laws with similar protections for employees who work for companies with less than 20 employees. Generally, it's not illegal to provide health benefits only to some classes of employees (for example, only to full-time employees but not to part-time employees). But once the eligible classes are established, an employer cannot withhold insurance from some members of the class while offering it to others. The employer can require employees to follow the rules of the plan, which may require an employee to fulfill a waiting period or wait for an open enrollment period before joining. An employer can usually change, or even eliminate, a health plan, but must follow the rules and guidelines of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). I understand they cannot choose and select who receives and who does not (I interpreted this as discriminating between employees). I do not know health legislature very well, and if anyone could provide some information it would be very appreciated. As for me, I am going to try and find more information out about this. Thank you.""

What is the best car insurance company in North Carolina?
Hi. So I recently moved from New England to North Carolina. I have my 2002 Toyota Camry. It was my Dad's and is still under his name. However, I want to get the title in my name hopefully by early 2014. That means paying for insurance too. I figure I'm going to have to do this soon, might as well do it now and learn more responsibility. My parents are paying for my car and their cars under MetLife. (Yes, the one with the Snoopy logo). They are paying about the same plan they did in Massachusetts. I know North Carolina has more competition in pricing and I want to shop around for a decent plan that gives me what I need but for a better price. My Mom is hysterical and doesn't want me to go anywhere else because she think NC insurance is crap. I like that MetLife gives me what I need but I'm not paying more than I have to in insurance. Sorry Mom. So my question is. What is the best car insurance company in North Carolina? Any suggestions. I would like a company that offers affordable plans but also is a reliable company when I need them. Please NO cheapo discount insurance. Here are my only two liabilities in my driving history: 1. Got into a minor car accident in October of 2011. Just a paint smear with another car. Nobody was hurt and neither car got in worse performance condition. 2. Got a seatbelt violation ticket in January 2013. (It was actually for speeding but the cop went easy probably because he saw I was wearing a suit. I was on my way to a family memorial service near the South Boston area.) Any experiences? I mean, what is my Mom worried about? I never hear in the news about people dying because they have NC car insurance. I know there is cut rate (bad) insurance out there because of competition. But there's got to be something better in NC than paying a Taxachuetts MetLife plan. (Sorry BayStaters, but you know it's true) Thank you!""

Why should we pay CAR insurance?
I know it is made to protect us from being sue, I understand this. BUT if we are MADE to pay insurance to drive a car then the Car insurance companies should be MADE to include Car replacement as a STANDARD pack for both Full and Liability coverage(Why should I lose my car because of a BAD driver) If your car is totaled and you are still making payments then you lose a car. If you paid off your car and it is totaled, you lose a car. Lastly, we who pay insurance and don't have an accident in six months(or one year)should be given a choice of a lower premium, cash returned or a loan.""

How can i get cheap car insurance at 17?
Ahhhh! car insurance?!?
Hello, I am a 18 year old freshmen in college. My College is approximately 20 minutes away. Since I was very very busy with my studies, I was unable to get a car permit / Driver License. Now that I am at spring break, I am planning to take my permit test, and start driving, so I dont have to ask my father to drop me off at chosen locations. Right now, I am earning $11 an hour. I get about $320 every two weeks. Now I have heard from my friends that Since I am 18 years old and my parents will not pay for my insurance, It will cost me about $300 for insurance every month, $100 for gas, and about $500 for required checking for cars. As you know, for a check of $320 every 2 weeks, I will not be able to pay for my car insurance and gas. Now heres the question. What should I do? I mean, I really need a car and I need to think of a good strategy. so that I will be able to pay for my car insurance. If you know any great, cheap insurance deals for someone my age, that'll be fantastic. Thank you.""

Nigerians react as IG of police, Idris struggles to read own speech [VIDEO] 17th May, 2018 Nsikak Nseyem Nigerians on social media have reacted to a video of the Inspector General of Police,Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a speech in Kano. When DYNASTY NEWS contacted the Force Public Relations Officer, Moshood Jimoh on the ‘authenticity of the video, he simply said, “Yes we have seen it , but you can call back later.” Here are some comments gathered by DYNASTY NEWS from Twitter: @ArchieWonda, ”I feel really embarrassed and ashamed right now. How did this man get to be the IGP? Is this the same man Buhari retired his seniors in the force so he can make IGP? This is really hard to believe. Nigerians, see your the head of your force.” @ahmadugombe ”The Nigeria Police Force should declare Mr. Transmission wanted for causing so much apprehension to our comprehension. As we say in Africa, between his village elders and Dino’s kinsmen, the IGP has offended some people.” @YemieFASH SHAMEFUL: ”Kindly watch the almighty Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris as he disgraces himself and his entire community. Is this the man said to have a degree in law?” @jacksonpbn, ”President has no WASCE, IGP cannot read, anti corruption adviser forged WAEC, Cabinet clueless, Cronies all thieves. Citizens aloof, uniformed. What a country!” @ Emilin, ”Anyone remembers the Magu interview with Chamberlain of ChannelsTV? Compare with the IGP’s struggle to read his speech and see the kind of illiterates we have as leaders.” @Chxta, ”Different kids have different needs, but here we only think of bright kids, and olodo. That mentality is what is propelling the derision to an IGP that is more likely dyslexic. Focus people. His real sin isn’t dyslexia, it’s insubordination to the National Assembly.” @allibaloo, ”There’s no way the IGP will be struggling to pronounce “ transmission “ and then he turns to another page and the same word confronted him “ transmission. The whole prepared speech can’t be about transmission now.” @Swtch, ”Abeg which #IGP? The glorified illiterate that cannot read ordinary typescript handed over to him, even when the person that drafted it for him stood by reading out for him, he still couldn’t read out.” @aminugamawa, ”If that video of IG of @PoliceNG is fake or doctored, I expected the police to immediately issue a statement clarifying the situation. They should even show us the real video, if that one was doctored. The video is all over the social media. It makes the IGP look bad & unprepared.” @Jide_Olusola,” This is a national embarrassment from the IGP Idris while reading a speech. Was he drunk or under a spiritual attack. Or is he dyslexic. Something is wrong somewhere.” @TunjiAndrews, ”Seeing the IGP shamed for how he was reading, Well, it’s a thing that happens to dyslexic people (on and off)Not saying that’s the issue here but it looks very much the case. He obviously doesn’t know his condition either or he’d have just stopped reading,” @yinkanubi, ”This is so embarrassing. This guy cannot read and it will not be a stretch to assume he cannot write either. How did he get to be IGP in the first place? I will recommend a competency test to be applied on all the top brass of the NPF.”

Course Reflection
Instructional Dynamics consisted of two main experiences, my placement, and the weekly class. In my placement I was in a kindergarten class, at the Integrated Arts Academy. The classroom had 22 kids in it and was very diverse with a number of English language learners. This was a very unique experience in Vermont, and I feel incredibly thankful to have had it for my literacy practicum, as it really redefined how I thought about what it means to be literate. During our in class meetings we analyzed this question as well through a number of different reading assignments, paired with small group discussions. And work-shopped a lesson plan we taught in our placements.
In our class the first main reading was a book called “Reading, Writing, and Talk: Inclusive Teaching Strategies for Diverse Learners, K-2” By Souto-Manning, and Martell. This book helped me see the importance of opening my classroom to a variety of different cultures and languages. And how to best help English language learners in my classroom. I found this book incredibly relevant to my placement. We had two students from Vietnam, three students from Nepal, and two Somali-Bantu students. Many of them were still in the process of learning spoken English while also being expected to learn written English. They did not suffer from the same difficulties as other English speaking children, and I learned to use visuals and to use their literary strengths to help them reach the expectations. In the classroom the teacher often used American Sign Language to get the children more familiar with another form of communication for them to use. I would like to learn more sign language so I can implement that in my own classroom. I would like to learn basic skills in a lot of the more common languages, like Spanish, French, And Nepali.
The next portion of the class we really focused in on what it means to be critically literate. To me now this means your ability to think critically about the things you read, and learn through visual representation. To question the perspective of a writer, to change the plot of a story, and to use literacy as a political voice. One article that we read that sticks out in my mind was the story of Rosie and her book, “The Princess in Black”. This story had a character whose name, blacky, was unintentionally offensive, Rosie’s mom questioned whether or not to scrap the whole book, but intimately dame to use it as a teaching experience instead. They worked through the problem, and why it could be seen as offensive, and decided to change it. They scribbled it out in the book and replaced it with different names instead. Rosie started to see the literature, and media in her life has something to analyse and as something she could influence, and disagree with. I loved the idea of using that book to teach that she could change the narrative of a story, and correct things she didn’t think were right. I later had a student in my placement reading the princess in black and looked through the book myself, and thought about the value of teaching kids that they can change the narrative of a story and that they should use literacy as a tool of political strength and voice.
After considering the more mental and critical thinking aspect of literacy we listen to a long podcast about literacy and dyslexia. And this helped me think about literacy in terms of comprehension. When you are an adult you often take for granted the way you recognize letters, you know what the sounds are, you can sound out words you don’t know with these skills. This podcast made me realize how abstract writing really is. There is no reason that a letter makes the sound it makes, it is all just something we made up. And the realization that this wasn’t obvious changed the way I taught in the classroom. I worked harder to use the sound of words, and connect the sounds with the letters for children who were having trouble. And this wasn’t just relevant to students with dyslexia, but for the English language learners as well. A lot of the students in the class I worked in really struggled with this relationship between the letter and the sound, and I began to focus on strengthen their skills with problem.
I am so thankful for all the experiences I’ve had in the class and in my placement. I loved working in a classroom with diverse learners, and so many cultures. I’ve never worked with a group that young and learned so much that I didn’t expect to learn about literacy just by working with that age group. The kindergartners were working on their skills of emotional, social, and physical self regulation, communication, and how they connect with the world around them. I hadn’t realized this was an aspect of literacy, but it become even more clear that it was when we talked about discourses and the social rules that we use to know how to act and how to talk in different environments with different titles. Like how we would act at a piano recital versus a softball game. One example of this that stands out to me was when Ms.Susan, a class friend, brought in instruments for the children to play with. The entire first part of the visit was a big group discussion about the differences of how we use and hold instruments, versus how we use and hold our toys. The teacher explained them as a type of tool, and the children listened carefully and all talked together about how they should treat the instruments. and they did such a great job treating the instruments respectfully and using them the way they were meant to be used.
Overall I learned that literacy isn’t as simple as reading and writing, it is about how you are able to interact with the world you live in, though all forms of media, literature social interactions, etc. The ability to analyze a piece of writing, media story or social situation. Through literacy you are able to educate yourself and use your voice to make a difference in your daily life, which to me is the most important thing I learned from this entire experience. Through the lessons that Freire taught to the illiterate people of Brazil, this lesson is clear, literacy is your political voice and to use it you must understand the rules of the game, and how to rewrite a narrative that the world is pushing on you.

How to get your brain to read?
How to get your brain to read?
How to Get Your Mind to Read ((article by Daniel T. Willingham (@DTWillingham) is a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia and the author, most recently, of “The Reading Mind: A Cognitive Approach to Understanding How the Mind Reads.” Republished from the New York Times Photo: Credit Lilli Carré)) Americans are not good readers. Many blame the ubiquity of digital media. We’re too busy on Snapchat to read, or perhaps internet skimming has made us incapable of reading serious prose. But Americans’ trouble with reading predates digital technologies. The problem is not bad reading habits engendered by smartphones, but bad education habits engendered by a misunderstanding of how the mind reads. Just how bad is our reading problem? The last National Assessment of Adult Literacy from 2003 is a bit dated, but it offers a picture of Americans’ ability to read in everyday situations: using an almanac to find a particular fact, for example, or explaining the meaning of a metaphor used in a story. Of those who finished high school but did not continue their education, 13 percent could not perform simple tasks like these. When things got more complex — in comparing two newspaper editorials with different interpretations of scientific evidence or examining a table to evaluate credit card offers — 95 percent failed. There’s no reason to think things have gotten better. Scores for high school seniors on the National Assessment of Education Progress reading test haven’t improved in 30 years. Many of these poor readers can sound out words from print, so in that sense, they can read. Yet they are functionally illiterate — they comprehend very little of what they can sound out. So what does comprehension require? Broad vocabulary, obviously. Equally important, but more subtle, is the role played by factual knowledge. All prose has factual gaps that must be filled by the reader. Consider “I promised not to play with it, but Mom still wouldn’t let me bring my Rubik’s Cube to the library.” The author has omitted three facts vital to comprehension: you must be quiet in a library; Rubik’s Cubes make noise; kids don’t resist tempting toys very well. If you don’t know these facts, you might understand the literal meaning of the sentence, but you’ll miss why Mom forbade the toy in the library. Knowledge also provides context. For example, the literal meaning of last year’s celebrated fake-news headline, “Pope Francis Shocks World, Endorses Donald Trump for President,” is unambiguous — no gap-filling is needed. But the sentence carries a different implication if you know anything about the public (and private) positions of the men involved, or you’re aware that no pope has ever endorsed a presidential candidate. You might think, then, that authors should include all the information needed to understand what they write. Just tell us that libraries are quiet. But those details would make prose long and tedious for readers who already know
