I have watched Owl House and I plan to make a review, but I need to rewatch it at least one more time to gather my thoughts

The Owl House is insanely popular, but I was really disappointed with it, especially season 1. And people are not gonna take kindly to that opinion, so I will probably get a lot of angry comments for it so I've just kinda avoided talking about it. Luz and the show act like Eda is a super powerful witch who is Luz's personal teacher who is gonna show her all the secrets of the witchworld, when that couldn't be further from the truth. Eda is like a parent who tells you you're going on a hike with no supplies, she drops you off in the middle of the woods by yourself and gives you like, a stick, and tells you "good luck!" and runs away. Eda is just the weird lady who lets Luz crash at her house.

It's misadvertised, it has tone issues, it has confusing and straight-up unexplained lore issues... and it fell victim to the SU curse of not knowing what they are doing in season 1, just kinda screwing around introducing random concepts Then they finally get their footing in season 2 or 3 only to get cancelled for being gay. Which sucks, like REALLY REALLY SUCKS, because it's the Network producer's homophobic fault for it being rushed, but its also the fault of the creator of the initial debut for the misuse of screen time on characters or plot that has no stake in the rest of the series.

Most of season 1 is just the formula of "our main characters going to school, screwing up and having to fix their mistake for each episode." And then season 2 is like "Oh right, we're a series with an overarching plot, I forgot- whoops! We're out of time, sorry :/ "

Rn thinking about how capable rose actually is compared to the others in the group

Like, the show try to make her out to seem stupid and dumb, and while she may be dumb academically, she is also the smartest one when it comes to fights and serious situation

Like, remember when they were fighting olive and everyone turned into stones? She was the first to realize that the people who turned into stones aren't dead, and went after olive because logically speaking, the person who cast a spell should be able to stop it/ break it.

Remember the episode with the mermaids and the dragons? Even though she is the goofiest of them, she knew that sage already had enough trauma from hurting the dragon, and any more can affect her more than she can handle, so she choose to kill the dragon her self, in a way that says "see this? Now the dragon blood is on my hand. It's not just you anymore" (and that's really speak of her selfishly selfless character but that's for another time)

And in the last ep, in the library, when her and thyme were fighting mandrake, and we're lost in the library, she was the one to yell to thyme to meet her in the section that have the first letter of her first crush, and it would have worked if olive didn't read her diary

Like, seriously she is the most warrior like of the group, the first to go for the kill, and while she is still inexperienced and reckless, that just mean there is more room for her to grow

I just think her character is more than meet the eyes, and as of yet she is stronger than the rest of the group even when she is the most human like, with no magic like sage, no plant controlling like thyme, and no super strength like parsley

Honestly, I think High Guardian Spice would've worked better if it was a webcomic and not an "anime"

Guardians are basically a fancy name for knights it's not that hard to figure out idk why everyone is so confused about it

Old magic is basically alchemy it requires a lot of work and equivalent exchange or whatever that Fullmetal alchemist guy said meanwhile new magic is like prepackaged spells so you can do magic anytime without needing to prep or put any effort into it ignore the labour that goes into making these their production is totally ethical and totally isn't destroying the environment

I forgor if high guardian academy was a middle school or a high school or if they even mentioned it at all so it's both now students attend 3 years of middle school and 3 years of high school

In the middle school years they only choose mage or warrior (or both) and when they make it to the high school years they get to specialise in a specific branch in their track like uh scouts or troupes or medics idk how the military works

So sometimes when I don’t feel like drawing an actual drawing, or feel art blocked, I usually make a doodle/sketch page, where I draw whatever that comes to hand with a blank mind, or just try different coloring techniques and styles

Anyway this page that’s I’ve made for HGS have been filled, and it was fun drawing in it and coloring these characters, usually my doodle pages are more doodle like, but I felt like I should post something so here to go

fantomette’s lore: I’ve decided to finally touch upon one of the most obscure characters in the setting: Boris the Cocks Sucker! First, let’s establish everything we can confirm about the character in the canon! There isn’t much information to be honest... All we know is that he was very close with the nameless mercenary NPC, that he mentions being ridiculed by others a couple of times and uses a broomstick with hot iron tied to its tip as a weapon! Now, let’s take a closer look at how his clothes are designed. You could see there is a blurred symbol seen through a hole on his shoulder... I wonder if this is a tattoo and has something to do with his title, because... you know 💀 Yeah this is really strange but I love how some settings are so different from modern world. Anyway, I’ve talked long enough, sorry!

crow’s lore: Ohhh, boy, the potential of the lovely Boris the Cocks Sucker have evaded me for quite a while, but thanks to my wonderful and talented mutuals I’ve been able to put some thoughts about him as well! Others already pointed out his title is likely earned by those comrades he has bad relationship with because people in Horseplinked Village are far from being progressive. But wait, did you know that he is also the only NPC who will stop to pay attention at one of the books in the disorganised pile you pass by it in the library? This book’s cover is also a low resolution of the book popular in my country that I am also lucky enough to be familiar with that features a story about big male naturals, so indeed our boy’s interest was piqued! Also did you know that if you take a different route with Boris and never enter the library, his attack during the boss fight will be 5 points less? Indeed, he fights with more vigour if we just allow him to take a look  👀 I played this game many times and no other NPC acts like this! I admire how much attention FromSoft puts in such tiny details! Anyway big thanks to my wonderful mutuals who inspired me!

This might be a nitpick but tbh I think the distinction is important because whereas 'cocks sucker' understandably led us to believe in a rather sexually active life of Boris that idiots in the village condemn, being called 'cocksucker' has more of a vibe of only caught being gay ONCE (we all know it had to be that nameless mercenary NPC) and most likely ridiculed by bigoted citizens SINCE then for it as result!
