Thinking about kdj and yjh again (as always) and obviously they’re life and death companions but also to some degree I feel like they almost symbolize life and death *as* companions. Idk if this is commonly talked about in the fandom but I have not seen anyone else talk about it so I’ll get into it

Yjh (life):

-in a cycle, repeating over and over, evolving his skills during each cycle

-does not have mercy for the weak, essentially allows for only the strong to survive

-often described as beautiful but scary

-deep down his motive as a god is to fight

Kdj (death):

-watches silently, but helps save people from that cycle

-comforting to others because he reassures them that they won’t have to struggle for much longer

-described as ugly, but only because no one can really see what he looks like

-deep down his motive as a god is to observe quietly and wait

Yes this is a bit of reach but I was just thinking abt it…anyway the sillies

maybe it’s just me but I feel like webtoon Kdj feels less queer than the novel version. Like in the novel there’s little instances of smirks and interactions and just small wording changes that make his and yjh relationship seem more connected in that way. Like in the webtoon we didn’t get the smirk of yjh when kdj cooked, and like when Uriel talks to kdj about becoming a eunuch during the constellation banquet by saying “assignment” as opposed to “position” her meaning is less explicit.

Idk it just kinda feels like the webtoon somewhat censors in a way the subtext of the novel. It could definitely just be me tho!!

If orv had ended with [the story "life and death companions" has begun its storytelling], I think I would have died actually.

the comments on the latest orv WEBTOON episode (179) are insane. Like they are all like “the one kdj loves most? That’s gotta be yjh it’s totes platonic tho 😚✌️”

The new webtoon cover is making me go feral in a way I cannot easily explain but the difference between the old cover and the new cover is so so apparent!

In the old cover, you could see how they still seemed.. strangers towards each other. Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk's backs used to face each other and Yoo Joonghyuk's face was mostly hidden meanwhile kim dokja had a wondering expression on his face. Yoo Joonghyuk didn't trust kim dokja at that point and to Kim Dokja, Yoo Joonghyuk was someone who was the protagonist. He saved his life and he doesn't know about it. Yoo Joonghyuk, still deeply buried in his regression depression at the beginning of the scenario and Kim Dokja, an anomaly in yoo joonghyuk's 'third' regression.

But now!!! In the new cover!!! They are standing side by side your honor!!! Kim Dokja seems more mature as after spending time with his companions, his thinking has drastically changed from the beginning!!! Yoo Joonghyuk is now showing his face and to some extent, it feels as though a circle of trust has definitely surrounded them. They aren't standing against each other's backs but rather standing side by side in a manner where both of them can be seen trying to protect each other in this stance! They are more relaxed around each other and while the bond between them is not as strong as it gets later in the novel, you can still see that they are comfortable around each other! Yoo Joonghyuk isn't just a 'novel' character or a protagonist anymore, he's kim dokja's life and death companion.
