My fatal flaw is I won't hesitate to reblog Spock. I fucking love Spock. I love Star Trek. I would rather die than let 'cringe' interests hold me back. I will always reblog. Leonard Nimoy my beloved.

On Shatner.
In brief - when I began my first venture into TOS, I had a very small, loose feeling of Shatner being not the most "decent" of people according to some flighting and curt remarks a friend once said, but only today did I do the research (all of which only took 2 minutes), and so -
I feel it imperative that I establish and clarify to any and all who have and will happen upon me and my legacy:
I love Spock and more so with Leonard Nimoy.
I like Kirk, but most certainly do not care for William Shatner.
In the words of our late treasured and beloved chief engineer -
"I like Jim Kirk. He’s a great guy. I do NOT care for Bill."

Leonard Simon Nimoy (1931 - 2015) was an American actor, film director, photographer, author, singer, and songwriter. He was known for playing Spock in the Star Trek franchise, a character he portrayed in television and film for almost fifty years, from a pilot episode shot in late 1964 to his final film performance in 2013.

“… yet it should be noted, in the midst of our sorrow, this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most … human.”
- James T Kirk

thinking more about my tag essay on that rpf poll post and...
remember that story about the early star trek fans who invited leonard nimoy to talk to their group and all very deliberately kept the shipping to themselves while he was there?
(I'd include a source but I didn't save it. also like, no guarantee it happened, but it seems like a thing that could have, so I'm going with it for now.)
that just couldn't happen now, in most of the places we do fandom. the internet was a breakthrough for fandom, I'm told, but then it was gentrified or something like it, and now everyone's on one of a handful of sites (though yes, we're seeing the breakdown of this with twitter and reddit and people scattering in a dozen directions) and we have One Very Public Place for any and all discussions.
it's something I think about a lot. our shippy fandom spaces are our personal blogs are where we shill our etsy shops are where corporations and celebrities make their accounts to tweet into the void and occasionally search their own names. we often mask between identities, yes, having a Family/Work Account and a Personal Account, but there's little to no real separation of the spaces.
tumblr avoids the celebrity problem, historically (except for beloved oddballs like diane duane and neil gaiman, who, I do not know how they manage it here) though that may be changing.
sometimes I think about how unprepared we all are, culturally, evolutionarily, psychologically, for the internet we have here and now. sometimes I remember this post about children being forced inside over the decades and going to the internet as a refuge, the only place they can really talk to each other and just be kids relatively unsupervised. sometimes I think about how disabled people are forced to resort to the internet for resources and community when the meatspace ones just aren't accessible. about how autistic people can find communication easier over the internet and people with adhd can find social media and video games rewarding and soothing in a way their brains desperately need.
I wouldn't trade this internet for anything. but fuck, in so many different ways we have not adapted to this world, and it sure as hell wasn't made for us.

Star Trektrospective :Star Trek The Search For Spock
Tumblr media
I am reviewing all the Star Trek movies, and we are onto the third film Star Trek III the Search for Spock, which I find very underrated
Plot :Spock (Leonard Nimoy ) has given his Katra (Basically his soul ) to Mccoy (DeForest Kelley) ,and according to his father Sarek (Mark Lenard ) it must be reunited with his body which resides on Genesis .So must Kirk (William Shatner ) break Star Fleet regulations ,return to Genesis ,and face a group of Klingons lead by Kruge (Christopher Lloyd) all for the possibility of saving his friend
So there is a phrase regarding Trek that I dont agree with "EVen films are good ,odds are bad ".....Which I really disagree with cause..3 isnt bad at all ....Its just not as good as 2
I think if 3 has two things going against it : One is that it doesnt feel like a movie,in which I mean it feels like a TV episode.I think the main thing is it lacks a dramatic core ,like dramtic things happen, but the goal is soley "Continue from where the last film left off " and admittedly, while I like the villain ,hes has a villain of the week flavor
The other problem is a more major one:It undoes the second movie .The second movie gave a lot of interesting things:A new planet, the revelation Kirk has a son , and the death of a beloved character .....This film undoes all of that .Now thankfully other films build onto these changes but it is mildly disappointing
That said if it is a TV episode....Its an enjoyable one . Leonard Nimoy directs this one and he emphasizes the sense of fun .We have some great jokes ,a starship heist and a fun pulpy fight scene between Kirk and our Klingon baddie on an exploding planet
Kruge is a really enjoyable bad guy, helped by being played by the marvelous Christopher Lloyd ,who while still being a vicious evil doer , nails the subtleties of the character, the sense of honor and that at his core he's just afraid of the Federation conquering his people
Other then Kruge ,I dont have much to say about new characters:Robert Hooks is a good foil for Kirk as Admiral Morrow, and we have small roles by Miguel Ferrar and John Larroquette .The most surprising role is legendary actress Dame Judith Anderson asT'lar a vulcan priestess ,who lends a sense of gravitas to a small role
Robin Curtis replaces Kirstie Allie as Saavik and I think she does a great job .Mark Lenard reprises his role as Sarek ,Spock's father from the TV series ,and he gives a wonderful performance and has a sweet line near the end of the film .Poor Merritt Butrick doesnt have a lot to do in the film as Kirks son David ,and I feel the film wastes the potential for his character
This film does mark the first time in three films that all the original cast get to show off ,George Tekai,James Doohan and Nichelle Nichols in particular get some memorable scenes .I also find it sweet that the crew are all on board with the idea of going against Starfleet for the sake of saving their friend
This is a good showcase of Shatner .Again I love that his entire motivation is just "Help my friend, costs be damned " .The boldest acting choice is when Shatners realizes the Klingons have killed someone ,and theoretically it could be seen as hammy,if not for a happy accident of Shatner falling back and missing the chair which transforms the scene into heartbreaking
The best performance has to go to Deforest Kelley as Bones ,who basically has to play both Bones, and in a way,Spock in Bones's head.He gets some great dramatic bits and some wonderful comedic scenes the best being "That green blooded son of a bitch! This is his revenge for all those arguements I won !"
Also I will admit there is one moment in this film shared between Kirk and Mccoy that is simultaniously badass but heart breaking .It involves a trap for the Klingons and it is a powerful scene
Overall while I think it is inherently flawed.....I still have a lot of fun watching this movie ,its a enjoyable adventure

what are some classic horror movies that you always recommend, and some more obscure ones that you love but don’t get a lot of attention? love your blog btw!
Got my first anon!! And it's super nice too 🤧 This is so lovely I'm really happy you asked.
I'm biased towards sci-fi horror and horror comedy's, but I've tried to give a bit of everything here. For classic ones I'd recommend? I'm taking some of my favourites from different eras so you can get a good feel for the changes horror went through. Noting here that I have not watched many movies from countries outside America, Australia and western Europe, just wanted to let you know in advance. Trying to fill out my horror repertoire between work and study 💀 Also this is long lmao sorry not sorry.
For early stuff my favourites would be The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari (the original horror film you could say, featuring my beloved Conrad Veidt), wonderful silent German expressionist horror from the 20s.
Tumblr media
On top of that I really loved Universal's 1925 adaption of The Phantom of the Opera ft Long Chaney and Mary Philbin. If you like that one I'd 100% recommend watching some documentaries on youtube about it cause it's really fun, Chaney bought the rights to the film himself as he really wanted to play Erik and adapt the story to screen. He did all his own makeup and stuff too it's great.
Tumblr media
Further down the track you have all the universal monster movies, I have unfortunately not watched them all yet but I really liked The Wolf Man, and have memories as a child seeing Creature from the Black Lagoon and enjoying it. This ties in to more obscure films I think more people should watch, but Them! also came out in this era and I love it so dearly. First horror movie I watched properly start to end, it's about giant mutant ants, and has a small cameo of Leonard Nimoy in one of his first roles :)
Tumblr media
Right after that in the 60s you have a big uptick in Hammer horror, which is where you get a lot of fun stuff (I can't give personal recs. I've only seen their phantom..which is good but like I'm embarrassed 😔). At the same time there was stuff like Rosemary's Baby (fuck Polanski) and Night of the Living Dead.
Tumblr media
Then there are the infamous slashers. There's a lot of them, and like the other stuff on the list it depends on what you like what you'll take to in a slasher. One of my favourites is Black Christmas (the progenitor of the slasher. idc about Psycho, Hitchcock can have nightmares about blonde women for eternity) which had a surprising nuanced look into things like abortion and critiques on classic relationship dynamics. I'm goofy though so I also like it because of the villain Billy Lenz. Goofiness is also why I adore Child's Play <3. The Original Texas Chain Saw Massacre I think is a good one to get to as well, interesting themes and even though the main characters aren't that deep I do really like Sally and Franklin. My favourite type of horror protagonists have always been family members, especially siblings. And again, if you're a fan of silly you should definitely watch its sequel, which is a horror comedy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Non slasher classics of the 70s/80s I recommend are Stepford Wives, The Thing, Suspiria, The Fly, Possession, The Lost Boys, Alien and Aliens, plus Evil Dead 1 and 2. They're all pretty well established here on Tumblr so there's not too much to say. I've watched the most films from this era if it isn't obvious haha.
By the time the 90s came around I feel like things got a bit all over the place, in a positive way. You got a bit of everything, though there was a bit of emphasis on horror movies becoming more "serious/gritty" compared to the slashers that came just before them. If I had to pick one film it would definitely be Candyman though. Tony Todd did an immaculate job and gave life to one of the most magnetic and charismatic horror villains ever. The movie is gorgeous and I adore the writing of it too.
Tumblr media
Runner up would be Silence of the Lambs, Clarice and Hannibal both get a big kiss on the lips from me <3
I'm not sure if it's been long enough to claim movies past the 2000s can be classics but I'll quickly list some ones I think are neat: Ginger Snaps, The Ring, [REC], Saw, Noroi, The Orphanage, Creep, I Saw The Devil, Get Out, Annihilation and His House.
I will try to be succinct for the obscure stuff (im not sure how obscure these are tbh but oh well) since I know this is getting really long lmao but here 💕
Them!, as previously mentioned.
The Phantom of the Opera from 1989. Absolutely glorious and gorgeous slasher style take on the story. I love it a lot. Has Robert Englund of Freddy Krueger fame.
Basket Case 1, 2 and 3, got to these after watching Malignant and hearing them brought up several times in reviews. They're fantastic B horror and so lovingly made it hurts.
The Hitcher!!! The original of course, which is dripping with so much homoerotic subtext it's crazy. Rutger Hauer plays obsessive freaky man so well and I love him for it.
Stigmata starring Patricia Arquette and Gabriel Byrne. It is so of its time in terms of the editing, pacing and music that I couldn't help but adore it. Suffers from unnecessary romance imo but still a great movie.
Event Horizon is thee absolute shit. Laurence Fishburne is my babygirl in every movie/show he's in and this one is no different. I was blown away watching it and my brother and I couldn't stop discussing it for like two hours after it finished haha. Hoping the director's cut will be released at some point cause I'm dying to watch it.
Joy Ride with Paul Walker. Got this one from a random horror movie generator. I still think about it a lot, there's something mesmerising about a movie with an evil truckie. I havent watched any fast and furious movies but the first one came out the same time as this so I like to pretend it's a prequel to it.
The Slumber Party Massacre remake and Slumber Party Massacre 2. The former for being one of the best remakes for horror I've seen and the latter for being batshit fun. The main villains weapon is an electric guitar drill idk what more you need.
That's enough I think, feel free to psychoanalyse me in the notes. Also if you ever want to send me a DM or another ask on or off anon or whatever that'd be fun, I don't bite :)

🥐 🏜️ 🐇 for the writer ask game? (If you want!)
🥐 ⇢ name one internet reference that will always make you laugh
ohhhh this is hard immediately everything i've ever known leaves my head but
the one that comes to mind is an extremely niche joke in a group of like 500 people or so based around
skullposting
in which a friend of a friend makes a bunch of edits to one video clip that got increasingly elaborate
i somehow dont remember all the dialogue but i think it's narrated by leonard nimoy
and features the lines "most manors are haunted by murky, intangible apparitions, but [specific name i dont recall] is home to a [VERY TANGIBLE HUMAN SKULL] that refuses to be buried. Its screams reverberate for miles around. [AUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHGGHUUGHGUGHUHGHUGHHHHGHGHH]"
whenever i hear any part of that i begin to laugh so hard
the clip of "VERY TANGIBLE HUMAN SKULL that refuses to be buried" with the AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHGHGUGHGHUGHGGUHHGHGHG on the end is on a friend's discord soundboard and im regularly assassinated with it.
️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
if someone tells me it made them feel seen, or less alone. if i help even one person with my work in some way then it is all worth it.
🐇 ⇢ do you prefer writing original characters, reader inserts, or a mix of both?
i've never written a reader insert in my life honestly i don't even know how people do that
but part of my skillset as a game writer is deeply honed in the fanfic mines of being able to work with potentially just a few lines of dialogue or a quick brief and spin that out into something compelling
i
have a complex relationship with writing my own original characters
nothing has brought me more joy as a writer than doing fic for friend oc's though like
100k subscribers on something i've written for? fine, nice enough
friend joy on me delivering bespoke work about a beloved original character? nothing is better than this it's the most creatively fulfilling thing i've ever done

I've been overanalyzing my emotions a lot today, which involves a ton of recalling Star Trek, and particularly certain characters like T'Pol, Spock, and even Picard, being comfort characters to me because of the way they struggle with and present their emotions and those of the people around them/ It made me recall this article from a few years ago, which really resonated with me. (And also Women at Warp is a wonderful podcast, if anyone is looking for a Star Trek one!)
