Bravely looking up from the blossom, she found Link, whose gaze darted away the moment she gazed upon him. Could she look at him? Was she allowed to talk to him after all she had done? Nightmares ensued, deepening the gorge between them, but the consequence of ignoring him was too tragic after all his heroism - it pained her gut.

In a moment of strength, she met his eyes, "H-He'd help me study." She peeped. His eyes snapped back, "I wasn't allowed in the meadows unless supervised."

He held a startled expression - lips pressed together, eyes wide as if Zelda had said something profound. Hadn't she, though? This was a piece of information from the sacred past he knew nothing about.

Leekah bundled her hair, "Surely, there were more qualified men for the job than this young thing here."

"No," Zelda said too plainly, holding out the purple blossom for him to take. "He was the best."

Awkwardly - as if not fully understanding the gesture - he took it and waited for her to take it back. Only after she leaned back into Leekah's arms did he realize the token.

His eyes searched hers.

She nodded - too weak to smile, too ashamed to pull him close.

And looking between her and the petite petals, he brought the flower to his chest.

Breath of the Wild DLC Ideas (That Won't Happen, But I Wish They Did)

Okay, so.

I played Breath of the Wild last year, some 4-1/2 years late to the party. I loved pretty much everything about it. Big shocker, right? But I didn't go for any of the DLC, and I'm probably not going to--it's a borrowed game and a borrowed console, which would make it weird for me to order more content even if I got permission first and paid my friend right back. On top of that, I'm not all that interested in playing More of the Same But Harder, which is what the DLC seems to be. No, not even with the promise of a magic motorcycle.

What I wish is that they had come up with DLC to take place after the main game is concluded. Most Zelda games have a Happily Ever After sort of ending--the great grand evil is defeated, the kingdom is saved, roll credits. That's not the case in BotW. The kingdom isn't "saved," we've just prevented Calamity 2: Malice Boogaloo. There's still a lot of work to be done restoring civilization. I would love to have DLC that offered just that.

First a "main quest." Link is still a fighty swordy guy, so there would still be a lot of combat focus. Let's say that with Calamity Ganon defeated, there are no more Blood Moons, and we can finally Get Rid of All the Monsters. It must be very hard to rebuild civilization when Leekah can't even go for a walk without getting Bokoblin-clobbered. So your main quest is, just go through Hyrule and perma-kill all those monsters.

Now if the monsters no longer regenerate neither do their weapons, but weapons still break because it's not like the good metallurgists are going to suddenly come back to life. So, sidequest: Establish Some New Smithies. This would be an elaboration of some content that already exists--there's the grouchy Goron blacksmith, though you can't buy anything from him. What I have in mind here is that you help aspiring smiths--say one in each major settlement--acquire the resources to set up a forge (maybe introducing a new ore type that drops metal), and then bring them existing weapons that they can copy from. Show the Gerudo smith some Gerudo weapons, the Rito smith some Rito weapons, etc. And once they've learned how to make weapons, they can sell them to you. Breakage problem solved! The Hylian smith would have the most intricate branch of this sidequest because Hylian weapons come in multiple different "grades" (Traveler's->Soldier's->Knight's->Royal->Royal Guard) and it would be cool if they have to master the entire set of each grade (sword, greatsword, bow, polearm, shield) before they can start to learn the next one.

The next sidequest I call Hylian Homesteader, and it is an extension of that Hylian Homeowner quest that is just pure wish fulfillment for Millennials and is also similar in some ways to the smithy one. During my playthrough, I kept wishing that I could grow a garden on my land and stock my pond with fish, and have a few favorite ingredients always available. So for this sidequest, you would do just that. You'd need to dig the garden plots (let's say up to three) and you'd need seedlings or other cultivars to plant. For the first...well, Bolson isn't doing anything anymore, that could be added to his list. For the second...how about Zelda? She's a scientist, we know she has at least some interest in cultivating wild plants based on that one cutscene about the Silent Princess flowers, and she needs a presence in this hypothetical sequel DLC. So you give Zelda samples of the ingredients you've collected, and she figures out how to propagate them in your garden patch.

That's all I've imagined in detail, though in practice I would include more stuff like expanding Tarrey Town and/or building additional towns, re-establishing hallmarks of a developed society like a postal service and a school, recovering books from the castle library, and all sorts of fun things. It would be a different sort of game from BotW itself (though not too different, since your main quest is still about hitting monsters with swords), but I think it would do a lot to fulfill the implied promise of BotW, which at its heart is a game about healing from severe loss.

He... doesn’t care for appearances if he’s in “hero mode.” Someone needs saved, he’s not going to stop and go “hold on let me put on some pants-” he’s already got a sword in hand and tackling a bokoblin to the ground.

Like... once he was washing up at a stable, he saw Leekah getting attacked in the distance. Dropped everything and ran off to save her. In only his underwear.

STORY TIME!

You’d be Rafe’s girlfriend prior to his mental spiral. Your interests and hobbies were quite the same, and you guys had met at the Kook Academy. He’s a year older than you.

You guys break up around the time that he starts his spiral, starting with dropping out of school. However, Sarah would invite you over to hang out sometimes. When you were back for the summer, you ended up getting dragged into the royal merchant hunt by sarah, being the only “adult” she trusted.

“Adult? Sarah, I’m just a child who’s legally allowed to go to big girl jail,” you told her, freaking out when she ran you through her plan.

You try to help anyways.

“She’s hot,” JJ commented.

“Shut up,” everyone on the boat tells him in unison.

Some Breath of the Wild musings

10000 years ago, Link, Zelda and 4 champions defeated Calamity Ganon with the aid of Sheikah technology such as the Guardians and the Divine Beasts. This was an era full of technological marvels that kept Hyrule as safe as it had ever been. Even Leekah wouldn't have managed to somehow get ambushed by bokoblins three times in one afternoon is what I'm saying. Then, an unspecified amount of time later, the royal family, in their wisdom, decided that they no longer wanted their pet assassins loyal servants, who'd been on their side since before Hylia even became Zelda, to have that level of technology. The technology that kept all of Hyrule safe. The technology that prevented Wizzrobes from playing tag with your children. The technology that prevented Lynels from moving into your farm, eating all your sheep, then eating you and then setting your farm on fire for that nice warm glow (Lynels are big fans of the nice warm glow of fire. They have a Pinterest mood board and everything). "Mistakes were made" doesn't cover it. "Dropped the ball" doesn't cover it, unless you extend that metaphor and dropping the ball causes a ripple effect, where an ever expanding cacophonous avalanche of other stuff also rolls down the stairs of Hyrule Castle in a Rube Goldberg machine of fail and suck. So the Sheikah where chased off, as you do with people who have been doing all your assassinations and other dark deeds for thousands of years, who raised your children, and who know your security detail because they are your security detail and who know all your passwords and also magic? I guess? The Sheikah were then given a choice to either live as vaguely magical country bumpkins/ part-time ninjitsu, or not. Some of them took issue with this, but instead of taking their cool toys and leaving Hyrule to go live on an amazing floating (middlefinger shaped!) technological wonderland in the sky, far from Hyrule and free of monsters, gods, demons or the royal family, like a sensible people, they instead formed a sulk club where they did edgy things like wearing their religious symbols upside down, worship the enemy of their goddess and kill everyone who offered constructive criticism (or laughed at them for wearing too much eye shadow?). I honestly wonder if Ganon even knows or cares that they exist and that is kind of sad. If I'm being charitable, maybe they had a hand in the whole "Ganon hacks the Guardians" plan, because the royal family do not seem like the types to regularly change passwords, but perhaps Ganon figured that out himself. I'd like to know more and perhaps we'll learn more in Breath of the Wild 2, but I'm not counting on it.

As I think I’ve mentioned before, each traveling NPC seems to have two different things to say when he or she is under attack. This, of course also counts for those NPCs that are scripted to be under attack when you come upon them, such as Leekah here.

That’s quite a number of NPCs to all have different text! Isn’t this an awesome game?!

One of the funniest things in Breath of the Wild is the NPCs you have to save from attacking monsters, because it's always the same NPCs, so if you encounter them a lot it's like "godDAMMIT Leekah why does this KEEP HAPPENING. Do you want a sword? I have a bunch of swords, I will literally give you a sword for fuck's sake Leekah"
