justin___wiggins: I worked on a movie starring Katie McGrath. (You might recognize her from shows such as The Tudors, Merlin, Supergirl and Jurassic World). Her make-up artist at the time @gerliamakemeup is a close friend of mine and told her I was excited to meeting her. (Seeing as I’m a huge fan of her work). She also heard (through my Make Up Artist friend) that I was feeling a bit under the weather and surprised me with a phone call (How cool is that?! Needless to say i was cheered up Immediatly and we talked for a while). She also sent me photos like this “Hey Justin”, and this was still all before I had even met her. We talked about how she was a little bored and didn't have much on her laptop to watch, and she mentioned the types of shows, documentaries, and other things she liked. So I took note of everything and gave it to her as a gift when I met her. She spent some time with me on set, and I got to watch her work. Such an fantastic woman. I’m really excited to see her in the John Wick TV Seriesspin off (The Continental).

A Lady for a Duke by Alexis Hall

Hello and Welcome to Drace forgets to blog about things they read because they have too many brain bees vol 3 or 4 at this point who knows. Today's edition is all about A Lady for A Duke by Alexis hall. Another of Alexis' regency works, this one more serious and less jaunty than Something Fabulous. The main character Viola, is a transwoman in a time where we wouldn't ordinarily see a trans protagonist. What's more is that the book is not focused on Viola's womanhood as the source of contention for the novel. At all. This reads as sort of a queer fantasy where everyone is accepting of Viola's truest self. It's a very sort of self-indulgent and happy fantasy that I can get behind. Alexis Hall poses the question of whether or not this sort of thing is something trans folks would like to see more of. Arguably this trans folk would very much approve of more of this story and others. Anyway, the main story revolves around Viola falling in love with her best friend since childhood, Justin de Vere, Duke of Gracewood. Gracewood has suffered a physical injury and is dealing with war-related PTSD. Like I said, this novel is a more "serious" regency, and the two have to work through years of trauma before they are able to find comfort in the new happiness they bring one another. It was a very touching and lovely book, and I highly enjoyed it. There's lots of positive affirmation and character growth in this piece. The characters aren't set on being horrible people, and I just really appreciate a regency where characters actually learn from their mistakes instead of droning on about them for about 17 chapters before they do a little bit of soul-searching and move on. Rating: 5/5 stars, if just for the concept alone.

"Are you there? Is Anyone Listening?"

Honey Girl is a book I struggled with for all of the right reasons. Rich, wonderful. evocative. Brimming with the emotional trauma that presses in all of the painful places and leaves me streaming hot tears of equal parts anguish and empathy. A book that teaches me I probably shouldn't read before I go to work anymore; otherwise I'm going to be balling my eyes out inconsolably as I change into the work costume.

I think what impacted me the most is the fact that. [This Book] it's about loneliness and. Realizing that you're truly not alone ever. because there is always someone else is going through the same pain as you, and they can recognize and see it in you too. It's heavy and beautiful. 5.5 stars

so yui has been an oc since like middle school she's been I like 6 Fandom and she's changed alot but a key aspect has been her reliance on fairytales as a coping mechanism

her parents were to busy arguing with each other so she was raised mostly by her sister who would do anything to distract her from what was going on at home (ie fairytales and sports) although yui lives in a world without magic it was something she always wanted especially because she wanted those fairytale endings where all the suffering is WORTH something some reward a prince to save you or some adventure that's unlike mundane everyday life

yui was pretty disconnected to life because she was just waiting for that ending she would ignore people who would try to befriend her because she just couldn't fit them into a fairytale archetype (that was until mara) yui traded in her Disney princess role for a night in shining Armour for a bit and when she saved Mara they became friends much to maras annoyance at first. when Mara and yui get isakid and yuis memorize are still kinds foggy and mixed up but she can just feel that this is something she would have wanted even if she couldn't figure out *why*

thats part of the reason Mara is so dead set on keeping them here all the hours yui would stay up telling her about these stories she was so passionate and how she would give anything to *be* one of those leadinglady's.

thats why I think me and the sky works so well for yui, like it's unrealistic magic doesn't exist in her world but it didn't stop her from dreaming and doing stuff to get close to that magic that she found in those pages so long ago. if yui became headmaster I feel like that would just be a nice ending to her arc she worked so hard to get close to getting that magic in real life then you get isakaid into the closest thing to the fairytale world of your dream just to be discouraged because your a magicless student

yu becoming headmaster is just such a great idea because yea yui likes sports it's a big part of her life but a scholarship to some collage isn't what she ever wanted she wants to be that protagonist she wants to be that protagonist in a world even if it doesn't make sense to her.

anyways at the end where it's like "and the thing I loved most was used as the bomb" could have headmaster yui having to calm a overblot for the first time in years bonus points if it's not some random student and it's grim as the monster we fight in the beginning of the game (I love that theory so much angst)

Please give Yui the happy ending she deserves PLEASE
