Barrett Ward, Founder and CEO of Able, spent some time living in Ethiopia where he witnessed woman after woman fall into the grips of poverty, forcing them into dangerous and heartbreaking jobs to merely get by. This generational poverty, specifically among women, sparked the idea for what Able has become today. Employing women in Ethiopia, Mexico, Peru, and the United States, they partner with manufacturers to ensure that their working conditions are safe and their wages meet the standard of living. They are consequently better able to provide the basic needs for their families, along with having better access to education which helps break these generational poverty cycles. In publishing their lowest paid wages, they are creating a sense of accountability with their employees and customers to not only work for good but to also maintain a high level of trust.

We went out! Tonight was a big fundraiser put on by @artslafayette at which over 100 12x12 pieces of art by professionals and amateurs such as yours truly were auctioned off to raise money for arts in our city. We were entertained by opera singers, local dance troupes, drag queens, choreographed pyrotechnics, stilt walkers, and a surprise burlesque dancer. Dug up a row of beets I had left over winter in the garden yesterday to plant some chard in their place. Cooked some up (instapot is the best for cooking whole beets!) and they were fantastic! So awesome to have fresh beets again! I've got about 2.5 gallons (half a Home depot bucket) left. Hoping I have another row out there hiding to tide us over until this seasons first crop is ready. What's your fave beet recipe?
