Olga “Oggie” Lynn (1882-1961), born Lowenthal, was a singer and singing teacher, who, despite being somewhat older than most of the Bright Young Things, was a staple of their circle. She was “short,” “dumpy,” and “jolly,” and would often host tableuax vivants for charity or sing at parties with “a rather sweet, pure little voice” when she wasn't giving lessons. She “was inclined to get into situations with which she could not cope and was always being helped by her friends,” chief among them Oliver Messel.
For a time, she lived together with Gladys Cooper, Lady Idina Sackville, and Tallulah Bankhead. According to Chips Channon, she and Tallulah Bankhead were “the queens of London's wickedest world — la haute lesbie [coterie of smart lesbians].” Her girlfriend, Maud “the Admiral” Nelson (1904-1969), though “unable to type,” was secretary first to Napier, Lord Alington, and then Cecil Beaton. It is undoubtedly Maud Nelson to whom Anthony Powell refers when he describes the mixed make-up of the parties of the age:
At one end of the scale there'd be quite smart people, Diana Cooperish sort of figures and so on. At the other there'd always be a lot of these girls who were sort of living on the margin — you know, they'd do a little modeling; at the same time they were not quite tarts but they were being half kept. And then it would tail off into the queer, almost criminal world — lesbians dressed as admirals, that sort of thing. (emphasis mine, qtd. in Taylor, Bright Young People)
As a Christmas present, in 1933, Baba and Cecil Beaton gifted Olga Lynn a scrapbook filled with signed photographs of their friends, giving us a glimpse of her social circle. It included Lady Idina Sackville; Violet, Duchess of Rutland; Gertrude Lawrence; Lady Diana Cooper; Napier, Lord Alington; Sir Michael Duff; Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie; and Viola Tree.

001: suthmaud!!
Ah!! the MOST meta of Macbeth ships while still technically being a macbeth ship. For all those who don’t know, Suthen is the queen, Lady Duncan, and Maud is Lady Banquo. They don’t appear in the play, but we on the server have really... decided they exist and have personalities... cause this play needs more women. We didn’t make up their names; these were the names given to them by history.
Suthen is also Siward’s sister, and Maud (in headcanon at least) is Duncan’s sister.
when I started shipping it if I did:
Someone on the macbeth server decided it was a good idea and I already had Maud as bisexual so I was like hell yeah
my thoughts:
Mom otp. two sweet girls trying to make their way in life. Maud is a little chaotic and Suth is a little sad but they love eachother and their sons.
What makes me happy about them:
Their energies fit well together!! Maud is always inclined to see the positive and takes no shit from people. Suthen, as mentioned before, is a bit sadgirl hours since she was forced out of her homeland to go marry some Scottish guy she didn’t even know, fortunately the groom’s sister is really nice and won’t stop talking to her throughout the entire reception!!
What makes me sad about them:
Suthen’s husband isn’t nice to her or her children :( And Maud unfortunately dies giving birth to her second child, who was stillborn... Suthen ends up fleeing Scotland in despair after this, holing up with Siward in Northumbria, unfortunately leaving her sons alone with their shitty father... :((( I wish Suth had taken the kids tbh. That was not the best move... But yeah her gf die and she sad :(((
things done in fanfic that annoys me:
Bruh do you really think this ship has fanfics lmaoooo
things I look for in fanfic:
See above ^
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other:
I am... not a multi shipper usually, as you may have found out ^^; Though some sort of ship switch-up involving Lady Macbeth and Lady Macduff might be interesting lol... my money is on Lady Beth/Suthen and Lady Duff/Maud. It’s a crack ship, but it could be cute.
My happily ever after for them:
Maud does Not Die, and they run away with Malcolm and Donalbain to go be forest witches or something. They raise their kids and are happy and gay and have a great time.
who is the big spoon/little spoon:
Maud is v short so she’s the little spoon. Suthen can definitely pick up her gf. Tall Norwegian girl genes
what is their favorite non-sexual activity:
Snuggling is always nice... Especially on a cold day in winter when your husbands are away... Light the fires and fall asleep together...

Diana Olivia Winifred Maud Cooper, Viscountess Norwich (née Lady Diana Manners; 29 August 1892 – 16 June 1986) was a famously glamorous social figure in London and Paris. As a young woman, she moved in a celebrated group of intellectuals known as the Coterie, most of whom were killed in the First World War. She married one of the few survivors, Duff Cooper, later British Ambassador to France. After his death, she wrote three volumes of memoirs which reveal much about early 20th-century upper-class life.

The New King
Albert Edward, known for more than half a century as the Prince of Wales and now summoned to the throne of the mightiest empire of the modern world, has chosen the regal title of Edward VII. His mother, it is said, wished him to perpetuate his father's name, either as Albert I or as Albert Edward I, but the Prince long ago preferred to continue the long line of illustrious Edwards on the English throne. Whatever the name of Queen Victoria's successor, there could be little doubt concerning the actual succession. Some there were who pretended to believe that Emperor William's hurried visit to the dying Queen's bedside was preempted by possible aspirations to the English throne – as the oldest child of Queen Victoria's oldest child, the present Empress Dowager of Germany; but their fear had no more real foundation than the vaporings of those English Jacobins who profess to regard Prince Ruprecht of Bavaria – the last of the Stuarts – as the rightful heir to the British crown. Not counting this pretender, there are seventy-two living princes and princesses who by right of birth stand in line as possible heirs apparent to the throne of England. According to English primogeniture, which takes no account of the Salic law debarring female succession, Albert Edward, as the oldest son of Queen Victoria comes first. The next heir is his son, George, the former Duke of York; while his heir again is little Prince Edward Albert. She the infant son of the new Prince of Wales die, the crown would descend to the Duchess of Fife, the eldest daughter of the Prince of Wales. Next in line would be her daughter, the infant Lady Alexandra Duff. The next would be the Princess Victoria, followed by her sister Maud. This ends the direct succession through Albert Edward.

Henry ‘Chips’ Channon: The Diaries (Vol. 1), 1918-38, entry for 15th January 1924
Tuesday 15th January
Dined with the Vansittarts. She is a charming woman, if a bit affected. He is most delightful, clever creative with the gentlest of smiles. He was most successful as Lord Curzon's secretary until He married. Lord Curzon always works his underlings to death and he was jealous of the time Mrs Vansittart occupied. Duff Cooper¹ was at dinner and we sent Diana² a cable of 'good luck' as it was her opening evening in New York where she has gone to play the Madonnna.
1. Alfred Duff Cooper (1890-1954) had joined the Diplomatic Service in 1913 and served in the Grenadier Guards for the last eighteen months of the war, being awarded the DSO. He married Diana Manners (vide infra) in 1919 but was a career womaniser, which she tolerated. He became Conservative MP for Oldham in 1924 but lost in 1929, returning to Parliament having won the Westminster St George's by-election in 1931, holding the seat until 1945. He quickly attained junior office and in 1935 became Secretary of State for War. In 1937 he became First Lord of the Admiralty but resigned in 1938 over the Munich agreement. Churchill deployed him in various roles between 1940 and 1944, when he became Ambassador to Paris, a post he held until 1947. He was knighted in 1948 and raised to the peerage as 1st Viscount Norwich in 1952.
2. Diana Olivia Winifred Maud Manners (1892-1986), by courtesy Lady Diana Manners, was the youngest daughters of the 8th Duke of Rutland, but seems to have been the daughter of Harry Cust, one of the Souls, editor of the Pall Mall Gazette and Conservative MP. Celebrated as one of the most beautiful women in England, she was a member of the Coterie, her generation's equivalent of the Souls, where she met Duff Cooper, whom she married much against the wishes of her family. She appeared in some silent films and was asked to play the Madonna in Karl Vollmöller's wordless stage spectacle The Miracle, directed by Max Reinhardt, to huge acclaim: she toured the production for twelve years. The money she made allowed Cooper to enter politics and her many absences facilitated his womanising. When he was ennobled she continued to be known as Lady Diana Cooper, on the grounds that 'Norwich' sounded to her like 'porridge'.

The Royal Wedding took place at 12:30PM on Thursday, July 6th, 1893 in The Chapel Royal (Left Picture) at St. James Palace (Right Picture) in London, England
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
𝐸𝓃𝑔𝒶𝑔𝑒𝓂𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝒮𝓉𝑜𝓇𝓎
♕ Previous Engagement: Her Majesty Queen Mary (Top Picture) was engaged before meeting His Majesty George V. Mary had become engaged to His Royal Highness Prince Albert The Duke of Clarence and Avondale (Bottom Picture), the older brother of George. Sadly the wedding never happened, as The Duke had fell ill with the Flu which then took a bad turn, turning the flu into Pneumonia. The Duke passed away on Friday, January 8th, 1892 at The Sandringham House in Norfolk, England.
Tumblr media
♕ Staying In The Family - Part 1: Her Majesty Queen Victoria (George’s Grandmother: Left Picture) wanted the then His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales, to marry either Her Majesty Queen Marie of Romania (His Cousin: Middle Picture) or Grand Duchess Victoria Feodorovna (His Cousin: Right Picture). George sadly was not fond of either of the two women & Her Majesty Queen Marie of Romania (Middle Picture) did react to George’s proposal to her by rejecting him.
Tumblr media
♕ “I’m Too Young”: Even after his grandmother tried to wed George & his two cousins, the young prince refused to be married. “I still think marrying too young is a bad thing. The one thing I never could do is to marry a person that didn’t care for me. I should be miserable for the rest of my life.” George wrote this to his grandmother stating that he was too young to be married & even if he did marry young, he would marry someone he loved.
♕ Staying In The Family - Part 2: George’s grandmother & Mary had met during her engagement to the now parted Duke, & Queen Victoria was fond of Mary. She had spoken to Mary to see what she would think about marrying her fiancé’s brother. This was very embarrassing for both George & Mary, as Mary’s fiancé's & George’s brother, had only been dead for 1 year & the two were still in mourning. The couple began to feel the pressures of the royal life. Mary began to feel pressure from not only her family but George’s family to be a married woman. George felt the pressure of his new position as second-in-line to the throne, he was still recovering from the proposal rejection of his cousin Her Majesty Queen Marie of Romania, & he also had no idea if Mary even had romantic feelings towards him.
♕ The Proposal: After a long conversation with George’s favorite aunt Olga Constantinovna of Russia (Also known as Queen Olga of Greece: Left Picture), the young duke was urged to propose to his brother’s fiancé Mary. George had help with his proposal from his sister Her Royal Highness Louise The Princess Royal (Middle Picture) & his brother-in-law Alexander Duff 1st Duke of Fife (Louise’s husband: Right Picture). On Wednesday, May 3rd, 1893, Louise had “arranged” to have tea with Mary. When Mary arrived to have tea with Louise, she had found George & Louise waiting for her instead of just Louise. The Princess Royal had suggested that the couple go to the garden to go watch the frogs that lived in the garden pond. The duke then proposed to Mary by the pond & she happily accepted George’s proposal. The couple came to learn how to love & care for each other deeply, despite the stress & heartbreak of the last year.
♕ Morning: That Thursday morning, when George was walking the corridors of Buckingham Palace, he accidentally spotted his bride. As tradition, Bride & Groom are never supposed to see each other (unless a private moment is planned by the couple to meet with each other before the wedding) because it is bad luck. As George spotted Mary, he proceeded to make a low & courtly bow towards the princess, a sweet moment many say that Mary never forgot.
♕ Wedding Party: The Royal Wedding was attended by 5 Bridesmaids, 5 Junior Bridesmaids, & 2 Supporters of The Groom.
♕ Wedding Officiant: The Archbishop of Canterbury Edward White Benson (Left Picture) performed the ceremony. He was assisted by The Bishop of London Frederick Temple (Middle Picture), The Bishop of Rochester Randall Thomas Davidson 1st Baron Davidson of Lambeth (Right Picture), & 5 other priests.
Tumblr media
♕ Register Signing Tradition: As Tradition during all Royal Weddings, the Register must be signed. The Register of the Wedding of His Majesty George V The King & Her Majesty Queen Mary was signed by Her Majesty Queen Victoria, The Prime Minster William Ewart Gladstone (Pictured Below), & all other royal personages that were present at the wedding.
Tumblr media
♕ Balcony Tradition: As Tradition of all Royal Weddings, the Bride & Groom along with family, made an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Even Queen Victoria made a rare public appearance when she joined the couple on the Balcony.
♕ Official Portraits (Photo is in Order): The Official Painters of the Royal Wedding were Heinrich Anton von Angeli, Laurits Tuxen, & Sir Samuel Luke Fildes
Tumblr media
♕ Title Change: As Royal Tradition, the Groom (Sometimes) & Bride’s (Always) Title will change. Mary’s Title changed from Her Serene Highness Princess Victoria Mary of Teck to Her Royal Highness The Duchess of York. George’s Title changed from His Royal Highness Prince George of Wales to His Royal Highness The Duke of York.
♕ Spectators: Since The Wedding of His Majesty George V The King & Her Majesty Queen Mary, was the first public royal wedding in 32 years, the large crowd of spectators spread down the route of travel from Buckingham Palace to St. James Palace. As she arrived at the chapel, Mary gave the crowd a side-ways smile & a wave that made her seem a little nervous about her upcoming vows that were about to take place.
Arthur Silver of Silver Studios was chosen to design the then Princess’s future wedding gown for when Mary was supposed to marry Prince Albert (But sadly the wedding never happened). Before the dress began, Mary & her mother visited the Warner & Sons’ factory which is located at the Hollybush Gardens in Spitalfields, London. The mother daughter duo asked the factory to make fine white silks with silver thread by Albert Parchment for the dress. Mary’s Second Wedding Dress was crafted by Linton & Curtis of Albemarle Street (A street in Mayfair Central London off Piccadilly).
♕ The First Dress: After Mary’s fiancé had passed away, her “Lily of the Valley” (A highly poisonous woodland flowering plant with sweetly scented, pendent, bell-shaped white flowers borne in sprays in spring) wedding was made public but was abandoned by the family & the designer.
♕ The Second Dress: For Mary’s wedding to George, the design that she chose for her dress was “The May Silks” & would be influenced by Japanese Art. The design of the embroidery of the dress would include emblems of Roses, Shamrocks, Thistle, Orange Blossom, & True Lovers Knots. The front of Mary’s Wedding Gown was made of white satin which had 3 small flounces of old Honiton Lace (A Type of Lace Textile made by braiding & twisting lengths of thread, which are wound on wood or bone bobbins & is made in Honiton, Devon) from the wedding dress of her mother which were located on the top & upper parts of the sleeves. The bodice long, pointed, cut at the throat, made of Arthur Silver’s white & silver brocade, & satin fell from the Princess’s shoulders. The train of the gown was long but plain & Mary wore her mother’s veil, which was also made of Honiton lace & fastened using her wedding gift from Her Majesty Queen Mary, diamond pins. The veil was never used again in another royal wedding. Following the flower theme of the dress, small wreaths were placed around the bust & in Mary’s hair. (A Dark Photo than the one above so you can see the design better)
♕ Royal Jewelry: For her wedding, Mary wore a diamond tiara as a loan from Queen Victoria. Along with the Tiara, the bride wore a Diamond Rivière Necklace from the Prince & Princess of Wales, Diamond Earrings from Prince George, & a Anchor Brooch from Prince George.
♕ The Wedding of His Majesty George V The King & Her Majesty Queen Mary, was the first Royal Wedding to take place in St. James Chapel since the death of Prince Consort Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Albert was Her Majesty Queen Victoria’s husband but many of the couple’s children married in the St. James Chapel. The cause of death was Typhoid Fever.
