So I'm catching up on Burrow's End (I just finished "Protect the Light") and I just. I feel so privileged just to get to watch Brennan act. He's amazing. Every time he breaks character because he has So Many Ideas and he just Has to tell us more about what his character is feeling and thinking, I get heart eyes.
And like. My initial reaction to Brennan playing Tula the single mom of two mischievous kids is like, yes this fits him perfectly, because what is GM'ing if not managing a bunch of mischievous kids? You can see how the way Tula interacts with her kids is kind of an extension of his GM persona, and it makes perfect sense, annnnnd thennnn that familiar persona just seamlessly, gradually slides and blends into something totally different, because Tula has a very specific outlook on the world that is very strongly shaped by her past. And at the beginning of the story we don't even know what her past is to even begin to look for that, and it's so different from Regular Brennan that it's a surprise every time, and yet the combo of Brennan Things and Different Things that make up Tula still fits together and makes a cohesive character.

The fandom has gotten really dark since you left.. certain shippers are really aggressive about their ships to the point of bullying. I kno you’ve dealt with stuff like that in the past and you handled it all so well I remember reading some anon asks.. any tips n’tricks?
OOF, WHELP -- not sure I'll be much help given that I have no idea what state the fandom is in. All I can really say is that you're going to find aggressive shippers no matter what fandom you're in. My method to dealing with people like that was to just block them and add them to my blacklist. The only times I ever engaged with them was if they came at me directly (which rarely happened -- the more aggressive they are, the more cowardly they were when it came to confrontation) or if they put a callout post about me directly in the main fandom tag. I always clapped back at those people just because like lol if you've got a problem with my fics or my decision to delete them all, okay cool, I don't care, but doing stuff like putting a long-winded complaint post in the main tag is so childish and stupid.
The best advice I think I can give for this is to just not care LOL I sure as hell never did and still don't. Never will! Shipping is supposed to be fun and the people who actively try and take that fun away from others are struggling with issues outside of fandom, but shipping is their outlet so that's where their aggression manifests. Happy people don't care about drama over fictional characters, so go be a happy person! Utilize that block option and live your best life!

Knitters of Tumblr! Please help me out!
When you are knitting a flat piece, do you do something special with the edges of the piece to make them look nice?
I'm working on a pattern that's made of several worked-flat pieces sewn together and that is Not My Usual Thing, so I'm looking for suggestions.
Do you do the thing where you slip the first stitch of every row? Do you do something else? Do you just knit like usual? Tell me your wisdom!

I mentioned the song everyone was obsessed with at my late 90s high school, but when I went to look it up, it wasn't just ten, more like TWENTY years older. I'm not sure why it was a thing at my school and I also remember it was driven especially by the boys (although everyone would join in).
So instead here are a few dance favorites from the actual 1990s that were popular at my school. Starting with the most 90s sounding band ever:
The chic-a-cherry-cola song (I Want You, Savage Garden)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQt6jIKNwgU
I saw the sign (The Sign, Ace of Base)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqu132vTl5Y
Eyyyyyy macarena! (Macarena, Los del Rio)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPYw3jXjd74
Some other 90s artists that were HUGE at my school:
Alanis Morrissette (harsh pop rock)
The Cranberries (floaty dreamy rock)
No Doubt (bubblegum pop) aka Gwen Stefani's band
Please feel free to add more-- for one thing, this is skewed towards what the girls were into and idek about the guys. Probably rap or R&B-- the latter was HUGE even at my mostly white school-- but I don't have any recs for that. Also obviously it's specific to where I lived etc etc so it's American white people culture but anyway that's what we had.
Also remember, do NOT wear 80s fashion in the 90s. Neon is OUT, and do not wear patterns; solid colours ONLY. Nothing that looks technological or futuristic-- if you need to do sci fi in a music video, you do either all white or all black. Ideally you should be wearing all black anyway; if you are not in grunge you need to be slick and sharp. Your makeup can (and should) be a mess, but your outfit should be neat and smart-- the price tag doesn't matter anymore, this IS the grunge era, but you have to either be all grunge or differentiate from that by being extra tidy and clean and almost robotic. You and your friends will probably be going to the mall to have fun, but if you want to seem cool, you can go to coffee shops and carry a small silver cell phone (in this era, most people still speak on the telephone instead of texting).
Actual time travel however is not recommended, as the culture was extremely unkind, and highly toxic by today's standards. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to call out anyone's behaviour unless they owe you money, because you will be roasted, dressed, and served up as a mockery for caring about anyone's feelings. No lie, it really was that harsh. It's like how the 1950s had awesome fashion and industrial design, but the culture was shitty to live in? The 90s were like that in their own way.

favorite part of work today was when i told the kids to get into two lines, n this one guy was like "i don't want to" n then started talking to his buddy in mandarin, n so then in chinese i was like, "hey, come here."
n he n his buddy looked at each other n then looked at me with like that faintly displeased expression that means they've realized they can't get away with not being that good at english (or feel terribly isolated from n indifferent to the adults bc they don't speak their language) anymore
and then when i told them to line up in mandarin they groaned abt it for sure but they did drag themselves into a line
