How Owl House Built up More Than Just Luz
In my TOH AU Author Notes, I talked a bit about this, but I hold heavy significance toward this scene in Hooty's Moving Hassle:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This shot features Luz, Willow, and Gus. It's not the typical, "Oh she's our protagonist with pure heart and main character skill!" It's ALL of them in this shot. Not just Luz. Here, they admitted that animating an entire house is an unbelievable feat. And these three did it themselves. But I'm not here to talk about Luz. I love her, but this isn't just about her.
After I Was a Teenage Abomination, Agony of a Witch, and Labyrinth Runners, it's all confirmed. This "theory" is confirmed that these three kids are powerful and skilled (wow what a shocker). Gus is a prodigy, he's moved up a couple grades and is acknowledged by other Illusionists that he's creative. Willow impressed Principal Bump with her use of one seed with Plant Magic and is capable of wiping out groups of people in seconds.
We know that someone like Eda was remarkably skilled and intelligent for her age. As seen in Them's the Breaks, Kid, she was considerably knowledgable compared to Lilith (no slam on Aunt Lily by the way). Eda's epithet is "The most powerful Witch on the Boiling Isles", and we've seen many instances how it was a culmination of passion, ambition, and hard work to become the witch she was in season 1. We've heard it. But to me? The instance we knew she was hardcore, fully powered, and serious?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her eyes were glowing yellow. And sure, it could be a stylistic "anime inspired" detail, but it was a show of pure power. I feel like this a witch's showing of their true potential being tapped into. I believe this is why her gem darkened so quickly and her magic ran out so fast in this fight---she was all in. And her line of "That takes some powerful magic" in season 1 episode 6? I feel it's a, "takes one to know one" sort of nod. Because this is what Willow and Gus are capable of:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eda knows skill. She recognizes it. At that point in season one, she knew for certain Luz was pretty darn good. But Willow and Gus? I think she's got an idea or two about their capabilities. And I believe they're well on their way to becoming some powerful witches...

Man, so you’re telling me Hunter not only had to hide out in the Hexside drama closet for like a week. But you’re also telling me that he most likely face planted while running through the forrest right after the events of Hollow Mind, and had absolutely no one to comfort him during probably the worst panic attack of his life. Not to mention he still hasn’t told anyone about the whole Grimwalker thing. Based off of some of his dialogue in Labyrinth Runners, I don’t think he even considers himself a witch anymore. And ya know, Belos probably now knows where he’s at, and he still has the coven sigil on his arm with full knowledge of what Belos plans on doing to every witch with a sigil on the Day of Unity.
Anyways. Talk about baggage.

Can we just… appreciate the fact that Edric chose to multitrack for illusions, beast keeping, AND potions. And that’s definitely because Eda became such a positive influence in his life for the brief time that he got to know her that it motivated him to learn more about potion making. Even after his one impulsive mistake of messing with Eda’s elixir in Reaching Out, the way Eda reacted to it afterward showed him how making mistakes are an integral part of learning and how one failed attempt shouldn’t disuade you from trying to improve.
Eda really is the best

A post for the coven scouts. I'm really glad the show decided not to make all of them evil and show that they're also people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But this guy on the left was straight up willing to kill a 16 year old. Atleast the guy on the right was actually SANE enough to tell him to put him to sleep instead. Seriously, if it wasn't for him, Hunter would be dead now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also there's this guard. Who has self-esteem issues and quitted the coven and is going back to the tiny cat coven (thank titan).
Tumblr media
Also this guard who was supportive of Willow.
Tumblr media
Oh and I almost forgot these guards who were actually concerned about Hunter. The scene they were in also implies that Belos didn't tell the guards about what happened in Hollow Mind. They also said that Belos has been "worried" about Hunter. I believe the more accurate words would be "wants to kill him himself".

I’ve been waiting for the day all of them interact for AGES
Now we just need Luz in the mix. And the rest of the Owl House 🤞

Could Gus be talented at more then just Illusions?
Tumblr media
This episode showed Willow and Amity weren't the only magical powerhouses at Hexside, but the reveal of Gus's skill seemed a little off.
At the end of the episode we see Adrian Gray (The illusion head) being affected after Gus's magic going crazy, him saying "Oh, I don't like these Memories..." Implying that he's reliving a painful memory of his own. We also see Hunter brave the magic, visions of Belos's mindscape being the most present for him.
While a huge Illusion for one person is something we Know Gus can do, just remember what he did to scare away Bria, it seems odd Illusion magic would somehow give him access to other's minds and Memories.
And that's what I wanted to ask, Could Gus unknowingly be a prodigy of both Illusion and Oracle magic?
Sadly we know so little about Oracle magic it's hard to tell but since we've seen students like the twins and the detention trio grow into their full potential with multiple tracks it'd be cool to see it for Gus too.

Thinking about how Hunters kneejerk reaction to seeing Gus’s eyes glow in labyrinth runners was probably fear
Because those blue, glowing eyes? They look exactly like Belos’s.
