so when i was young i had this oc right her name is Kitten and ive had her since Middle School like 5th grade forward she is my MOST ICONIC oc to date but but but not my point
she, in her beginning, had two alter egos, one was an angel, and one was a devil, which explained why her tendencies were never... consistent
these two alter egos were ALWAYS at war with one another, and somewhere along the line i moved them to ANOTHER character's story but as wolves (not cats) who were Gods and they were in love but they kept fighting and hurting each other bc well that's just what happens when you're polar opposites
and man the... the ms paint edits i made of them...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
their names were Kuza (dark) and Miaan (light) and they were literally just,,, i dont even have to explain
it was so edgy and i loved it so much
but then i revamped them AGAIN, bc... well idk i thought they were cringe before
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but i gave Miaan a y in her name bc who cares In this rendition i made them both "entities" of the parts of the world they had control over, Miyaan controlled the heavens and the skies, and Kuza controlled the earth and the underworld
Both of them had equal domain over the after life but they were more so judges in death, that would decide where the soul would go (heaven or hell) or dole out a punishment that was purgatory, but for the MC they were like "no you've committed too many crimes you're not allowed to die :) but your friends? your loved ones? they will die. And we'll make sure you're there to witness it"
but then i made Kuza literally want the WORST for MC and ruin her life and possess her and stuff, then i scrapped that and tried to give them their own world
then i dropped it for other ocs
BUT NOW we've come full circle
im changing their names, or ill just make characters inspired by them, or subcharacters of them idk, i get attached to variations of my ocs :(
but Kuza is now Evermore, and Miyaan is now Dinah, they are cats and they've returned to being alter egos of Kitten
(this is Kitten btw)
Tumblr media
and she hasn't had any like story type of relevance for a while bc she's just my oc that i put wherever i want, but we're gonna give her back to the roots
and my oldest AMV idea for her was The Pheonix and i just realized today that i am CAPABLE of scripting that AMV and bringing it to life, so i did that
Evermore is, resentful of Kitten bc she believes Dinah chose Kitten over her (to watch over her, rather than spend eternity with her, and yeah she's jealous), but bc they're all the same person, Dinah is Kitten and Kitten is Evermore, but Dinah isn't Evermore, they're... they're scorned lovers again
bc Dinah and Evermore spend so much time in Kitten's like,,, not headspace but like between worlds , her mindscape maybe? idkyet i dont really care for location, but they can make the world whatever they want, but Dinah has been so focused on keeping an eye on Kitten because Evermore's chaotic tendencies have been getting the best of her, and Evermore, barely aware of this, starts to fight with Dinah about it, which drives her away MORE
And then there's Evermore, left in the Realm alone to brood and fester her hated, so the world turns hostile and volcanic, and Evermore is just destroying the land because she feels so betrayed and alone (think Catra but not... not really)
so she brings Kitten to the Realm during her sleep, not every time but frequent enough, and Evermore's like "im actually going to kill you" and she KNOWS that Dinah is watching and technically present, and Kitten IS Dinah, but she's so upset that she's taking it out on both of them
in the script i had written, Dinah takes over Kitten's place in the Realm and fights Evermore, but its too much for Kitten bc while Kitten has magic, she doesnt have nearly a quarter as much as Dinah and Evermore do, so she's like losing her grip in the battle and growing weak, but Dinah pushes on, and the fight continues
it doesnt have a clear winner, bc they're destined to fight for eternity at this point bc of how their priorities have changed, but yeah
:) those r my ocs of the night, i like them

Adventures of 9 year old Kizaru, 6 year old Akainu, and Baby Aokiji part 2
*After robbing the village*
K: Wasn't that fun?
A: NO! IT WASN'T! Its a disgrace to us future marines to rob an innocent village!
K: Hey calm down a bit, we're still kids so we're still not marines yet. We can do whatever we want!
A: You have a point..
Bb A: *babbling noises*
K: Oh look! Kuzan is deciding to speak
A: I could care less. Anyways, we got food for the past couple of weeks. Now we just need a spot to set up camp
K: I saw a pond earlier that has a clear spot where there's freshly cut trees
A: Great! Lead the way!
*They arrive at the spot*
A: Borsalino, you get firewood and water, I'll get camping stuff
K: How about Kuzan? We can't just leave him here!
A: Then you take him
K: I can't! My hands will be packed with stuff!
A: Fine I'll take him.
K: Goodie!
A: Hey Kuzan.. c'mere boy
K: You're calling him to you like he's a dog..
A: Shut up lemon head! See? He likes me, he's crawling towards me
A: Yeah c'mon a little closer, that's right!
*Bb A crawls into Akainu's hands*
A: See? He likes me!
A: Ain't that right Kuza-
*Bb A bites Akainu's hands*
A: OW! WHY YOU LITTLE BASTARD!
K: *giggling*
A: DON'T JUST STAND THERE LEMON HEAD! GET HIM OFF OF MY HAND!
K: Alright, alright, chill
*Kizaru removes Bb A from Akainu's hand*
A: YOU LITTLE SHIT-
K: Hey language! You know how babies are! They copy whatever someone says or do!
A: Whatever idc.. I'll get water and camp stuff while u only get firewood with him, good idea?
K: Yep! Meet again here on this spot!
*After 15 minutes, they arrive*
K: I'm back with firewood!
A: I found some tents and camping stuff, but no water
K: Why?
A: I couldn't find any fresh water, only salt water.
K: Well that's a shame, guess we're gonna be dehydrated.
A: Wait! Kuzan ate a Devil fruit that's ice right?
K: Yeah? Why?
A: We could use his ice and my magma to melt the ice into water!
K: Genius! I'll talk to him since he hates you, obv
A: I'll set up the fire with my magma
K: Alright Kuzan, why don't you use your fruit to give us water?
Bb A: *babbling*
K: C'mon now, if u don't do it then we will- uh- reincarnate as ghosts from thirst!
Bb A: *still babbling*
A: OH CMON NOW JUST MAKE DAMN ICE ALREADY!
*While being surprised and frightened by Akainu's impatience, he made ice from his strong emotions and starts crying*
K: Look what u did Zuki! You made him cry!
A: Would you rather die from thirst or try and make this lost baby make ice?!
K: I'd rather take die than make a baby cry!
A: *scoffs* Whatever dumbass.. I'm gonna cook food.
*Akainu cooks food and eats while having distance on Kizaru and Bb A*
...
A: *Sigh* Fine, I'm sorry I made Kuzan cry and called you a dumbass..
K: That's all I wanted to hear, now..
K: GROUP HUG! *Literally jumps beside Akainu and does a group hug with Him, Akainu, and Bb A*
A: ALRIGHT ALRIGHT! Personal space would ya?!
K: Sorry, let's go to bed
A: Kuzan is sleeping in your tent, he hates me!
K: I know, good night Zuki!
A: *sigh* U never learn now do you?
K: What do u mean?
A: After hundred times of telling u to call me Sakazuki, you still call me Zuki.
K: Because its shorter!
A: What would you do if I called you Bors?
K: I don't care, it's nice to have a nickname!
A: Enough chitchat, let's go to sleep.
K: Okay, good night for the second time Zuki!
A: Night ig, u too Kuzan.
Bb A: *spits out tongue*
*They went to bed*
Part 3 tomorrow!

Hey there, dweebs! It's me, ya big boi Andre. I'm 27 years old, go by he/him, and as most of you already know, am eternally cursed to play the main protagonist of an incredibly niche series. Although that doesn't mean I won't pick up someone else in the future. I just get overwhelmed easily.
Anyway, I've been doing Tumblr RP since about 2010 at the earliest. I used to be in some very old groups that some of you may remember me from, but I eventually stuck around the indie side of things before getting tricked into joining Isola around the time of its opening. I'm a day 1 member, bay-beeee.
Besides writing, I enjoy all sorts of things ranging from movies, games, shows, music, reading, cooking, and really anything that gets my mind going or keeps my hands busy. Some of them, unsurprisingly, involve crime boiz. But can you really blame me when there's so much good stuff out there?
Video game-wise, other than Sa/ints Row, some of my other big interests include; Fa/te, Ya/kuza, Suda/51 games, Guil/ty Gear, Te/kken, Resi/dent Evil, MGS, and a whoooole bunch of other things I could spend hours endlessly talking about.
You're more than welcome to check out my Twitter if you'd like, or even my Tumblr which I need to use more frequently.
Feel free to hit me up sometime if you'd like to chat! Otherwise, I look forward to writing whenever and forcing you all to look at my big purple bozo (who is not the Grimace).

Scenario - Meet the Parents
I feel as though if I brought home any of the Lion-kuza, my mom would be severely judging every life choice I ever made. That said, I'd still say it was worth it for Agata. I'll suffer the judgemental stares for you, gamer lion.
On the "less likely to be judged eternally by every member of the extended family and even some people I've never met by proxy" end of things, either Legosi or Jack would be easy sells. Jack is just so gosh darn polite, and the intelligence would win him points. Legosi would be slightly tougher depending on when in the timeline we're talking.
If he's in his early Cherryton appearance, then shy but polite wolf boy is going to win big points. If we're talking high school dropout missing half his ear with a gunshot scar, that's definitely leaning towards Lion-kuza levels of difficulty. But his politeness is still there, even if he's less shy, so he'd probably manage to not get judged too harshly.
In the end though, my mom is cool in so many ways, and it would ultimately come down to "do they make you happy and do they treat you well?"
As long as I can say yes to both those questions, they'll get the seal of approval.
you’re mom sounds so sweet ♥️
my mom would have a stroke if I brought Free home.

Steady, CT-8417 - the betrayer
Steady is an introverted medic for the 400th attack battalion, lead by the cold and calculating Togruta Jedi, Roon Teana. Steady killed his Jedi long before Order 66.
Roon Teana - the jedi
A cold and calculating Jedi who is deeply devoted to the Force and the doctrines of the Jedi institution, Roon has built her identity around her role. Efficient and direct on the battlefield and almost entirely lacking in empathy, her detachment ends up costing Roon her life; in the second year of the Clone War, she is killed by her clone Medic, Steady.
Yonah Boul - the maker
Yonah is an empathetic and kind-hearted Togruta refugee from Shili. He owns a diner on Coruscant and works part-time serving food at 79's. He is currently in a secret relationship with Captain Rex of the 501st.
Jedi Master Bernardeau "Bernie" Namya - the créchemaster
The Half-Zygerrian créchemaster and Jedi, Bernardeau "Bernie" Namya, General of the 318th, was a competitive, stubborn, kind, empathetic and funny man who spent the majority of his life committed to raising and caring for Jedi children. He was a skilled duelist, though he preferred to spend his days reading, playing rugby, or teaching younglings to read. He lost his ex-padawan a year into her time as a General and had eloped with her Commander, a clone named Lock.
Commander Lock - the kamino guard
Commander Lock is the Commander of the Kamino Guard- retired from war-front service (317th battalion under Leonie Luroon) after losing his leg and his general to a sith temple they explored. He emerged with a holocron which he spent years talking to like a diary; following his death during the fall of Kamino, his soul lived on inside the holocron forever, eventually coming into the hands of rebel leaders. He was married to another Jedi General, Bernardeau.
Saran Kuza - the exterminator
Saran is a member of the isolationist Mandalorian diaspora on Ansion. She is quiet, intense, and passionate. Following the Imperial occupation of her planet, Saran was forced to seek well-paying employment outside of her community. She is a professional monster hunter.
Margot Ra Venn - the loser
Margot is a Mandalorian and a mortician/death doula/death officiant on the planet of Mandalore. A bit rough around the edges, she is constantly running from her problems- including the destruction of her homeworld. Having fallen spectacularly far from a previous position of respect and esteem, she is now something of a drifter.
Ouna, CC-7600 - the fool
Commander Ouna of the 318th is both a soldier and an artist. Funny, laid back and steady, she is her batchmates emotional rock. She takes her responsibility as a tattoo artist very seriously, and only tattoos fellow clones, so as to establish the tradition and create a sense of community.

IN THIS ESSAY I WILL EXPLAIN WHY I FUCKIGN LOVE DIBPER
I didn't wanna clog up the dash w me reblogging tia's post so im gna talk abt it here!!
Okay so from the context of why Dib works so well with Dipper is because they are very similar in a lot of ways but have very different strengths, and therefore can support each other. To explain quickly, Dib's motivations in canon are basically "expose zim to the world as an alien so they'll finally take me seriously (but mostly my dad)". All he really wants is his father's approval, who AHEM, is essentially abusive and i fucking hate professor membrane so much fucking fuckity fuck shit-- excuse me. Anyways everyone in his life writes him off as crazy for believing in the paranormal.
Dipper is also like this to an extent, he wants to impress a father figure (Ford) and towards the start of the show is depicted as slightly paranoid, so he can understand where Dib is coming from on that front. Also can you imagine Dib telling Dipper "my fucking classmate is an alien, here, look at these pictures!" and Dipper nodding, and going "yeah omg that's so cool!". Like I think Dib would start fucking sobbing. He just wants to be believed and respected and not shoved into the mold his dad wants him to fill, and Dipper believes him!
Coming from Dipper's point of view, he doesn't have very much self confidence. Of course, he does gain some as his character develops, but Dib would definitely be there to pick up the slack. He is extremely confident in the show, or at least lacks the awareness to lose confidence, and therefore is a lot more reckless than Dipper. 50 step plans? Hell no, he's throwing himself into situations without thinking of a way out at all. So basically Dipper's anxiety is an Immovable Object and Dib's recklessness is an Unstoppable Force. This way, Dib would pull Dipper out of his comfort zone and Dipper would reel Dib in a bit so he doesn't get himself too hurt.
On the similar side though, both of them are passionate and obsessive, Dib keeps tabs on Zim constantly and Dipper keeps up the journals so they both like logging their findings. I think to a certain extent both of them kinda want recognition for their research so I could easily see them publishing some of it together whether it just be in a book or an actual academic journal. They're both nerdy as fuck (but in different ways), Dib is good with machinery and tech while Dipper is good with organization and numbers. (Headcanon: Dipper tries to get Dib to play DD&MD with him but Dib's ADHD brain gets bored of all the numbers very quickly lol). They are both v good boys and I love them.
Most of this stuff is just stemming from canon and has nothing to do with the ADDITIONAL headcanons I have for these motherfuckers, so let's just rapid fire those: 1. Dib can cook, Dipper can not. If it wasnt for Dib, Dipper would be living off microwave spaghettios to this day. 2. Likewise, Dib cannot fucking drive, Dipper does all the driving for them. 3. Dipper is still kind of insecure about his masculinity even into adulthood, but Dib is rlly gnc and it kind of eases his nerves seeing that his partner wears all sorts of clothes and isn't questioned. 4. They both chew their pens. Ew. 5. Dib is always cold, Dipper is always warm, together they make the perfect human body temperature.
Those are mostly just general headcanons, I have way too many fucking aus and unless you want this essay to be literally the length of a novel I'll restrain myself. The main au I talk about (and am writing a fic for with my friend @/kuzakat), is the murder boys/murder boyfriends au, wherein Dib is a serial killer and Very Annoying and Dipper is just trying to get him out of his hair lmfao. Its basically a hannibal au by accident but blame Kuza for that because THEY watched it and I haven't, so for all I know they subtly shoved in hannibal details while I was none the wiser. UHH other than that I have my Farm AU, Telekinesis Au, Horror Au, Angel/Demon Au, and the Betrayal Au, but I might be missing some. So yeah. Ask me about my aus if you want I love talkin about them!!

♦⚜☣ツ !!
Questions for the Mun
Tumblr media
♦ What's an AU that you've always wanted?
y a KUZA AU YAKUZA AU FUCKING YAKUZA AU don’t ask me why i’m so into organized crime plots maybe it’s because i genuinely wanted to join the mafia when i was younger buT YAKUZA AU LISTEN AIZEN WOULD BE SO FUCKING GODO IN ONE YEAH--
⚜ What is the best time to write for you? Why?
any time i’m awake lmao. literally i don’t have a “good time” to write or a “bad time.” either i’mm awake and able to write or my executive dysfunction and adhd strike to leave me just faffing around. but i try to get at least one thing written every day, even if it’s only on discord.
☣ What's one thing that will make you drop a thread?
honestly? if i don’t jive with the person i’m writing with. be it because they try to push things onto me that don’t fit my muse or that i’m not comfortable with ( and i try very hard to not push things onto people the idea of being pushy about things is mortifying-- ) or just misinterpreting how things can go. like, i like to think of myself as very friendly and easy to approach and talk to because i’m an adult who can handle discussing things, but the instant someone tries to force things onto me or my muses, be it canon lore i disagree with or their own interpretation or anything else, i tend to take an immediate step back from them and will often let the thread wither and die.
ツ Who has been your favorite muse to play so far? Why?
oh god. toss up between ardyn and aizen. i’m a villain writer. i love writing villains. especially complex villains like, you know, aizen. it’s only taken me ten fucking years to really start getting him down where i want him and i’ve discarded a LOT of what i used to think about him once because it never fit but i really like where i am with him now. he’s irritatated that i’m starting to pick him open and apart but suffer you brat--
/kicks him.
as for why? i love villains. i’m a villain fucker. but i also love to treat my favorites like geodes. i have to smash them open and see what they’re made of. and, honestly, there’s a fun balance that comes out of “this character still has their quirks and fallacies which makes them relatable as a person/maybe they had this tragedy occur within their lifetime/perhaps the reason why they are is x y and z but which of those reasons is the real and main one for making them tick this way?’ and showing that for as sympathetic as i can make my muses ( like aizen here -- ) for people which is a skill i’m damn good at -- THEY ARE STILL VILLAINS. i mean, sure, i’m happy to work them into being Diet Evil or something or at least Evil Lite or whatever the equivalent of Sunny D for Evil is ( ick, Sunny D. ) and while my muses can become better people--? they’re still, you know, very capable of switching gears and committing atrocities without blinking an eye.
it’s something i live for.

i RLLY want to talk about the premise and themes on this blog for a hot second
i know my blog, muse, and his source material are gritty and violent, and maji can be a goofy bastard at times, even kinda “““unhinged”““, but no where on this blog do i EVER want to come across that im glorifying or even romanticizing the themes on here. despite how brutal the ya//kuza games are, since theyre beat-em-ups n all, death is EXTREMELY important and not something that should be thrown around willy nilly, nor should murder be treated lightly-- nagoshi, the man behind the series, himself was against the idea of overglorifying murder in his games, specifically ya//kuza.
m//ajima is by no means a good person, and that should go without saying. he beats people, has most definitely murdered, and even finds enjoyment out of the violence he carries out towards his men, his enemies, and even close allies (more specifically, kiryu). even with this established, murder is still treated with an extreme amount of respect and appropriateness, both in the series and on this blog at the best of my ability. the grim realities of criminal underworlds and broken, bruised men like majima shouldn’t be treated willy-nilly and brushed off as edgy nonsense. i know with maji’s coping mechanism of his traumas by acting theatrical and unstable can put people who have never played the games off and not take him or the world he’s from as seriously as they would other crime-centric games and thats..... unfortunate, actually, but also shows how effective his coping is--  its part an attempt for people to take him less seriously and to underestimate him.  he’s brutal and so much more powerful than he shows himself as, but thats besides the point
if i ever accidentally get too insensitive about the issues and scenarios i may write on here, PLEEASSE let me know. im honest to god trying my best and i love maji and the series too much to not strive to do them justice

20 years ago, I wrote a sprawling Final Fantasy V fanfic. Never got around to finishing it, but that’s because I tried to link up the game to the OVA and followed some rabbits down holes and it got to be a mess. Also, I was very, very deep in the closet at the time.
Recently I got bitten by the FF5 bug again and spun this out. Without even thinking of it, I ended up retreading the path of the original fanfic. I guess I just got one mode ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. At least this time, I’m older, have more experience under my belt, and know more of what I’m doing.
So here, have some FF5 fic starter. Warning for dodgy, borderline-inappropriate and frankly confusing af subjects. I probably won’t do anything more on it for a while because Beta AU is my priority. I just wanted to get this out of my system.
After the reunification of the world, after cleaning up Enuo's legacy and ExDeath's hubris, settling back into the castle feels a lot like retiring.
There are still the old political power maneuverings by the opportunistic. Queen Lenna's nobles vie with each other for her favor; it's really too bad that she cares for none of their flattery. Walse rattles its sabers at her sometimes, but it's an old habit and there's no true threat behind the gestures. Karnak is still rebuilding; the last she heard, the spirit had gone out of their queen and the reconstruction of the castle was said to be cursed. Unassociated townships watch the newly reappearing kingdoms with trepidation. Without a king or a clear line of succession, Surgate has collapsed and the scholars of the nearby Ancient Library usurped it. The Nazalea islands, now united by long strips of land, are talking about politically uniting in a confederation, though Mirage and Crescent formerly-an-Island disapprove of any efforts to get them to surrender their sovereign rights. Bandits keep falling on Kuza Castle in the hopes of turning it into a base, and Butz has to go in every now and then with a crew of warriors to clear out the bodies. According to her spies, there is talk in Tule about petitioning for independence; Lenna hopes they'll bring the petition to her sooner rather than later. And so on.
And Bal... Well. Krile never wanted much to do with ruling. Bal keeps operating as it did in the aftermath of Galuf's death, but his granddaughter writes to Lenna sometimes of the dissatisfaction her court has with her disregard for her status as queen and how much she wishes to quit the entire enterprise of queenship and fly away.
Cloistered as Lenna is in the chambers that were once her parents', those issues feel so remote. She is isolated in a way she never felt before her world was upended and forced to merge with its other half. The friends she made during ExDeath's war are scattered, and only Faris visits with any regularity.
With Faris, Lenna has to navigate choppy waters in a rowboat. Faris would likely correct her on her choice of metaphors, but it feels right. Outside these chambers, Faris is Sarisa, Lenna's older sister, who was lost at sea when she was five years of age and grew up a pirate. Outside, she reins in any thought or feeling that is remotely inappropriate. Outside, they are simply sisters, though one is the picture of proper royalty and the other might have washed in on the tide.
Inside, it's different. Lenna had been four years old when Sarisa fell overboard in the middle of a storm, and they only met again fifteen years later. The few memories Lenna has are of a little girl with her hair pulled back in iron-curled tails. Faris' rough manner of speech and preferred dress are so far removed from those memories that they might as well be entirely different people. They got on surprisingly well, and Faris never made her feel like a burden. As the quest progressed, they spent more and more time talking over campfires and their shifts for the nightly watch tended to go entirely too long. It was so easy to fall in love with the dashing pirate captain with... his? her? streak of knightly chivalry that she sought out any connection with Faris. Anything at all.
That had been a mistake. What could have been a romance for the ages, springwater-clear and glorious, was hopelessly muddied by reality. If only she hadn't pressed the issue, if only she hadn't hounded Faris about their parentage, if only she hadn't revealed Faris to all of Tycoon Castle...
If only, if only...
Faris leans over a newly-drawn map of the world, green eyes distant as she contemplates geopolitics. Strands of sun-bleached hair escape the tight leather band holding her hair back and frames an exquisitely handsome face. The politics of nations are not so different from piracy, as it turns out. As there are no true friends among pirate captains, so there are no true friends among nations.
Lenna is reminded, again, of Krile's desire to fly away. Krile could get away with it, surely; she is a known eccentric who speaks to animals and spirits alike, and disappearing would not be unexpected of her. Faris was raised a pirate, and accouterments of royalty so poorly suit her that her disappearance would be a relief to those who find her coarseness inappropriate for a princess. Lenna was raised to be queen, to wield her sword in one hand and a scepter in another. She cannot afford the luxury of running away with her one true love.
"Any word on Surgate?" Faris asks suddenly, eyes glancing up to meet Lenna's. There's something more than just that one question in her expression.
The scholars talk about reorienting whole nations to shift power from nobles and royals to commoners. It hasn't been a popular subject among her peers, and with Surgate so close to Karnak borders, its queen has been muttering about rebuilding her wall to block the scholars from entering her lands. "Queen Karnak says that there might be violence if the Surgate experiment is successful." Lenna does not mention that it would be its queen who would instigate the violence.
Faris straightens, though her sea-roughened hands never quite leave the map entirely. She mulls over her words as if she's not entirely sure how to say what she wants. They both know that if the Surgate experiment is successful, if the scholars have a solid plan in place for a transition from a kingdom to rule by the commons, Krile will be the first on board. Walse and Karnak will fight it every step of the way. And her?
Finally the captain speaks. "Better to weather the storm than fight it."
Lenna wonders, then, whether the Surgate experiment will be her liberation or her doom. It's hard to tell at this stage.

I'm not going to feel bad about not liking the mom and baby in R/E8.
I got really attached to K/iryu's kids in Ya/kuza 3, so the issue is how families are written in games, not whether or not they exist outright.
R/E8 tries to get you invested by the sheer power of Californian Whiteness. Y/akuza bothered to make all the kids feel like actual characters, and you had 2 games of prior history with their father figure to understand his motivation for taking care of them and really feel the love he has for them. He shares a common upbringing with them and wants to give them the same love he was shown growing up by his adopted dad.
This game just has "This generic man must save baby, because baby is baby. All humans love baby. That alone is sufficient." ...No. It's not. Ethan isn't engaging or likable as an individual character. He is a device through which the player experiences the game. You can't just suddenly decide that he's got a half-assed source of motivation and immediately expect me to cheer him on.
I had more sympathy for La/dy Dime/tres/cu because you actually see her talk to her daughters like a real mom and get furious when something happens to them. She has a diary of when they were created and how she grew to actually love them. She's willing to change course and ditch her team's plan in order to avenge them once you kill them, and she actually has a good point in her boss fight when she asks how you expect the Lords to have any mercy for your daughter when you had no qualms killing all three of her own. Ethan never flinched or reflected for even a minute after he took them down or read about them. The boss fight is a character who was written against a character who was not. Who am I going to naturally feel sympathy for here?
So this whole next dungeon that's focusing on Ethan's memory of his wife and his baby being born rings hollow because they were never properly set up as characters I could latch hold of and feel fond of.
Having a generic, mainstream-friendly protagonist is holding this game back, much like it did to the previous entry.
With all that said, I still like it way better than 7 so far. This is SO MUCH MORE fun to watch than 7.
