Hi Detective, what did you think of Movie 26?

Movie 26 (Black Iron Submarine) Review

Raw feelings:

I'm completely speechless by this movie. It was way beyond any of my minimal expectations. It was extremely good!

I was baffled out of pure disbelief at how much main plot stuff they were revealing in this movie to the point that my brain fried. You could immediately feel that it was a movie you needed to rewatch multiple times in order to fully digest and appreciate its greatness. It was pure fanservice in the best way possible, not the botched M20 way, where fanservice scenes didn't feel earned, mystery being completely gone and main plot/cast characters getting sidelined. Everyone had their moment to shine.

After 15 years, I get a DC movie that finally topped M13 as my new all-time favorite DC movie. I was so thoroughly satisfied that I couldn't help but clap at the end.

Haibara (Sherry)

Haibara truly shined in this movie. Not only did she have proactive role in rescuing herself, Naomi and later Conan, but her personal romantic feelings, childhood past and current relationships with her dear friends were further fleshed out. I was floored by the degree that she got exposed, to the point of the OG antagonist Vodka standing right in front of her next to Pinga, ready to kidnap her, and then later interrogating her about her identity.

I truly adore how the movie also revealed what started the bullying she went through in America (protecting her fellow half-japanese) and how Naomi's story complimented Haibara's childhood. It was a beautiful touch having Haibara's childhood classmate Naomi realizing Haibara's true identity by the end of the movie.

I also love how the movie depicted how highly Haibara viewed Conan/Shinichi and his protective reassuring face. It was cute seeing her face light up with happiness when he showed up. I was shocked, but also very appreciative of how respectful she was trying to be of Shinichi's relationship with Ran (more than the fandom clearly) that she went to the degree of passing on her CPR kiss with Conan to Ran.

Mizunashi (Kir)

Kir was one of the big standouts in this movie. You could truly feel the shift in spotlight focus between her and Bourbon, seeing as Bourbon was truly put in the backburner for Kir to get more shine, and it was perfectly handled and a true overdue for her (since she has been neglected in the franchise overall). I couldn't stop grinning and appreciate her nonchalant stunts to aid in Haibara's escape by pretending to not know how to open the exit tube in the submarine so Vodka could thoroughly explain it as Haibara overhears everything through the transmitter.

I especially loved her less indirect and confrontational move towards Gin, when she directly interferred with his murder attempt of Haibara & Naomi, and how she calmly talked back at Gin when he aimed the gun at her. She was a true badass worthy of her NOC title, that I've longed to see in the series, only to get it in this wonderful movie.

Pinga

I really enjoyed Pinga's role in the movie as well, and especially appreciated how he wasn't written to be similar to Irish and Curacao (who had a more sympathetic antagonist development) but rather to be a more selfish greedy psychopath with more ambition than Gin, but less talented. It was interesting to learn how he was deep undercover as an engineer for interpol since 5 years back while disguised as a woman.

I especially enjoyed seeing his fights with Ran, and how she became a troublesome enemy for him (giving Ran good spotlight like in M13), as well as how Conan straight up shit-talked to him while giving Gin praise in comparison, to the point of riling Pinga up.

Vermouth

Vermouth was the true MVP in this movie. She had such a central role in saving Haibara from the organization's suspicion. It was extremely exciting to see Vermouth immediately sensing the potential of Naomi's All-age Recognition System (ARS) and how it could expose the boss identity and whereabouts, but more importantly to her, expose Shinichi's shrinking, that she'd rather keep hidden like a pandora's box. I was shocked and loved how she manipulated the Boss into giving her the order to destroy the ARS for his own sake, when she in reality wanted to not only conceal the current APTX shrinking effects from him, but also protect Shinichi. The way she used her disguising skills to invalidate the ARS' accuracy was just a genius move by her.

The biggest surprise to me was how she was revealed to be the old woman from the start in disguise, who was given the sale ticket for a Fusae brand brooch by Haibara out of selfless kindness, and how Vermouth was basically revealed to also be repaying that kindness back to Haibara by protecting her from the BO, further deepening her motivations and multi-faceted nature in such a beautiful way as she gazes at the confused Silver Bullet (Conan) who is questioning them after getting Bourbon's intel.

Rum & Karasuma Renya

The Biggest shocker in this whole movie was without a doubt the big reveal that Rum, the no.2 of the Black Organization, is unaware of the Boss' whereabouts in recent times and that, apart from having Pinga request Naomi to sell the ARS to them so they can modify it and also use it to erase the BO's activities in security cameras (according the boss' orders), had intended to use the ARS to locate Karasuma Renya (the Boss).

This was a huge bombshell reveal, yet to be revealed in the manga, that further clarified the current ongoings within the organization. It basically as good as confirmed that the Boss is hiding a de-aged form from his subordinates (including his very close associate, Rum) and that no one other than Vermouth is aware of his hidden whereabouts. This revelation is further supporting my "Child of seven (Nanatsu no ko)" theory (the Boss being a shrunken 7-year-old who is only contacting his subordinates through phone to hide his child appearance and maintain authority). This also further established a distrustful relationship between Karasuma Renya and Rum, seeing as the Boss has kept Rum out of the loop, and how Rum has persisted to locate the Boss against his wishes, creating a very small divide within the organization's power structure. This is extremely exciting for the future of the series and has gotten me very hyped for what's left of Rum's development in the Rum climax.

Conclusion

This movie was overall a 10/10 product, that gave all the fans outstanding fanservice. Conan's devotion to save Haibara, Ran's supportive contribution to the point of almost getting shot, Agasa's deeply moving heartfelt tears after Haibara's kidnapping, Kuroda's helpful backing of Conan, Bourbon's informational support and Akai's loyal aid in taking down the submarine were all just the tip of the iceberg. All the beautiful callbacks to canon events were also among the best of the fanservice. I especially loved Haibara's callback to how a child (Ayumi) had once changed her life through their actions (File 437), Pisco kidnapping her despite wearing glasses (File 240), Ran reminding Haibara of Akemi (like in File 434), Kir's callback to her father sacrificing himself for her in response to Naomi's cry (File 604) and all the moments Haibara recalled when Conan comforted and moved her (Bus hijack, Haibara intro, Reunion, etc).

Gosho's involvement in the story was clearly noticeable, just by the sheer quality of the movie, and all of his many drawn keyframes were beautiful.

Azusa: You are sick Amuro-san? Don’t worry and rest up, I can open the cafe by myself. The owner said you would still get the pay as well. But this morning there have already been a lot of people who asked for you. I bet they only came to Poirot to see you haha!

Conan: Hi Amuro-san, I was at Poirot today but Azusa-san said you were sick. Please take care of yourself, remember to drink lots of water and sleep early. Hope you get well soon.

*slams hand on table many years late* i think furuya rei’s somewhat terrified expression when kuroda hyoue (who must still be affiliated with the NPA) asks him “how it’s going?” and he replies that “there is nothing to report” in chapter 1017 -- and the fact that furuya’s thinking about the night he got cornered by the kudou couple and akai in the kudou household as he replies -- isn’t because kuroda hyoue asked him to report on the kudou situation. i think kuroda doesn’t know about the kudou situation and was just asking about the BO investigation in general, and furuya makes that face precisely because HE HASNT TOLD ANYONE THAT HE GOT ACCOSTED BY THE KUDOU COUPLE AND AKAI AND WAS ENROLLED IN A PLAN THAT IS NEITHER NPA/PSB NOR FBI BUT IS INSTEAD A KUDOU ORIGINAL AND HE HASNT TOLD HIS BOSS. PERFECT STUDENT FURUYA REI WHO IS SO PATRIOTIC AND PROUD TO BE WORKING FOR THE PSB IS GETTING INVOLVED WITH THE WILD KUDOU FAMILY, HE’S GOING TO TOWN, HE’S GETTING ABSORBED BY THE KUDOUS, HE’S FAILING TO MAKE PERFECT REPORTS

I've been playing movie casting bingo with @bluevelvetea for the past months, and although I made a very bad card for myself and remained one Jodie, Okiya, Elena or Akemi short of a bingo*, it was a lot of fun!! And at least one of us got lucky, so that's nice! :)

*fuck Shiratori, why couldn't Jodie get a sign T_T

I'm already looking forward to hopefully playing again next year for m27, but for now, I'm just really excited about this upcoming one and all the next hints, teaser illustrations, etc! :D

After file 1105, what’s your theory on who Kuroda is?

I think Kuroda was always related to the NPA/PSB. He probably either was officially sent to America to protect Haneda Kohji as the son and future heir of one of the richest men and most influential men in Kyoto. Or it could have been a personal favor supposing Kuroda was originally acquainted with Haneda Yasuharu.

I believe that even if Kuroda and Yasuhara weren't acquainted 17 years ago, they probably are acquainted now. Because in files 1088-1090, Kuroda kept saying he had something to do in Kyoto. I personally believe he was going to meet Haneda Yasuharu.

That could also explain the acquaintanceship between Kuroda and Muga Iori (If he's indeed Akai Tsutomou), because Haneda Yasuharu would be the common link between both characters. After all, it has been directly revealed Akai Tsutomou and Haneda Yasuharu are friends.

Does the new manga update mean that Kuroda is not Tsutomu? I am confused.

Hi anon!

Well, you're not the only one who is confused right now! XD When I saw young Kuroda image in the latest manga file I was puzzled because I was really convinced that Kuroda was Tsutomu disguised. Then I thought "maybe Tsutomu was already disguised as Kuroda at that time, he only had a "younger appearance disguise". But according to what Mary said, Tsutomu started to investigate the BO only after Haneda's death, which happened exactly the day of the flashback with young Kuroda. Why Tsutomu should have been investigating disguised, before/during Haneda's murder? It doesn't make sense. So at this point I'm not so sure anymore that Kuroda is Tsutomu disguised, but the question is: if Kuroda is not Tsutomu, then who and where is Tsutomu? And also, why Kuroda was there 17 years ago? How is he related to Haneda? Before reading the file I was hoping to have finally some clarifications and answers to our questions, but Gosho just left all of us confused and with more questions than before...

Movie 26 Trailer (60 seconds)

The movie plot is shaping up to be extremely thrilling with a similar vibe to my favorite, Movie 13 (The Raven Chaser). Adding the introduction of another close subordinate of Rum into the mix (Pinga, who most likely finds out about Haibara's true identity like Irish did with Conan), while adding Akai & Amuro, it's also becoming reminiscent of Movie 20 (The Darkest Nightmare).

I do hope the quality of the story measures up to M13 though rather than becoming a second M20. Great to see more spotlight given to Vermouth (that felt robbed in M20). I love how we will also be getting more Bourbon-Vermouth teamwork in this movie.

They reused the same Rum shot from the first teaser. It makes me question how much we will actually be seeing him in the movie. Might be 2 scenes max (where one could be at the end of the movie).

I also love seeing more of Kuroda & Shiratori's relationship. Especially after the recent manga case, it's nice to see it being just as well depicted in the movie. Hope we get a great Kuroda scene as well.

Year 2023 is looking like it's gonna be one of the greatest years for Detective Conan.

- you must be aware that hate and revenge never ends in satisfaction. Then why don't you let go of your hatred for akai for the sake of your own peace of mind?

- Do you love Japan more or do you hate akai more?

- what would you do if you caught kaito kid, and find out that he's just an teen kid

- what would you do if you ever had to adopt kaito kid as a part of a mission

- Tell me how much did you study to become the topper. What was study timetable like in a typical day

- whats your future plans in like 10 yrs from now

I.. hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is like.. an askblog for the fictional introjects which formed in DID/OSDD systems.. I may be Rei Furuya, but I'm not the same as I am in my source material. This isn't an ask your favs blog, but more of a, "learn more about us and talk to us!" Kind of thing.

To answer some questions though:

- I did hate Akai Shuuichi a lot, but mostly because I couldn't come to terms with the fact that losing my boyfriend was my fault, not Akai's. I blamed us both, but I let him take most of it because I was too scared to take it myself. I'm dating the Nightwatchers System's Akai though, and I love him dearly. Though, I will say, I miss Japan a lot and that's why I'm moving back there, and trying to convince them to move with me.

- I think it was Bourbon or Toru (two splits I had) who adopted Kaito first from the NW System, but I see him as a son, and honestly, I don't think if I could go back, I would ever arrest him. (Though he'd probably break out if I tried LMAO)

- From what I can remember, I was the bastard child of Hyoue Kuroda's and a foreign woman he arrested. But I claim Elena as my mom now, even if we aren't blood related. I know she's not my mom, but she treats me like a son and lets me call her mom. I treat Shiho as a sister too. I could be the farthest thing from a child/brother for them, but they still accept me and comfort me when I need it. I do the same for them.

- I think Hiro can back me up when I say that if he didn't get me out of my room/dorm/apartment, I probably would have studied myself into the grave. I wanted to prove I was enough, even if it killed me. I neglected my health for the sake of being enough, proving I was worthy of respect. It wasn't worth it.

- Well, I have an agreement with the main host of our system, and we're going to be moving to Japan. Hopefully we'll be living there permanently, but we can't exactly say what the future holds.
