Eurus: Germany! I always wanted to go there!
Sherlock: Specifically Bohemia, we're going to get a visitor.

Von Kramm: I apologize for the mask Miss Holmes as you can see, I can't reveal my title and I need your help to keep a scandal a secret.
Sherlock: I already knew that, your Majesty.
John: What?
Eurus: John, this is the King of Bohemia.
John: *full on bi panic*

John: So you know this woman-

Von Kramm: *flattered*

Robin Hood of Bohemia ~ Interview with film director Leoš Kastner with reporter Kasia Ogrodnik-Fujcik
The adventures of Robin Hood have fired the imagination of filmmakers since time immemorial. Or, to be precise, since 1938 when they made the first famous film with Errol Flynn. There have been numerous versions of the story retold over the years. Little wonder it has also (and inevitably) made its way into foreign lands. In the Kingdom of Bohemia, upon the death of Přemysl  Otakar II on 26…

I absolutely LOOOVE Irene Adler in the books
The way that she just declined a marriage to a KING cuz she didn’t like the vibe of him and then married some lawyer in a church as quickly as she could with Sherlock Holmes as the only witness (dressed as an old man)
And that she says that she often uses male clothing and takes advantage of the freedom it gives her
An icon for everything honestly

My best friend just received her college acceptance to study to be a law clerk and I hope she knows that this is the beginning of the gothic literature protagonist pipeline.

spoilers i actually DID watch the granada version of a scandal in bohemia tonight, and there's not much to say that hasn't been said about how good that story is, but something that caught my attention: holmes IS very rude to the king. even in their first meeting before he's figured out the king is the one at fault, he refuses to bow or stand for him, he feigns not even paying attention until the king gets to the point, and is incredibly intentionally dismissive. I can see why a shallow reading of that attitude might translate to "sherlock is an asshole."
but the thing is, it's not unprovoked. the king a) tries to fool him with a stupid disguise, b) insults watson, and c) is generally a pompous ass that can't fathom why anyone wouldn't be in love with him. when you compare how sherlock acts around him to how giddy he is when watson is puzzling over the letter, it's obvious that's how he reacts to people he has no patience for, not his default state.
and i think it speaks to a certain mindset, that might be a bit closer to that of the king than that of watson, if you come away from that story truly unable to figure out what prompted the difference.

See, the thing about these super-smart modern Sherlock Holmes type knows-everything-at-the-first-glance male detectives is, when they look at a female character and they're like 'oh she's wearing that ugly lipstick today and look at her fancy shoes not fit for her seated job, clearly she's trying to flirt with her co-worker/her boss/me/trying to get a raise/she's insecure/she's bad at her job and trying to distract us'
that's not even impressive, that's just how straight men talk about women all the time.
