also me: *proceeds to send my friend 650+ words of pepsisprite analysis*

thinking about john being a literal embodiment of the narrative and davesprite being an embodiment of the game. the game and the narrative are intrinsic to each other's existence, but without each other they would be useless. what's the point of the game if no ones watching, and whats the point of watching if no ones playing? john and davesprite’s relationship sort of mirrors that, davesprite wouldn't exist as a sprite if john had never died, but john WOULD have died if davesprite didnt save him. they're necessary to each other's creation and to each other's continued existence and relevance.

they're the world's shittiest soulmates because their relationship is so riddled with the game and narrative but davesprite and john are tied together in a way which ends up with davesprite always ending up right next to john again. johndirk and pepsisprite are very related what with davesprite mirroring dirk in a bunch of ways, but the difference between the two ships is mainly when they would happen imo. (canon) johndirk can only work postcanon, mostly because they simply don't actually get to meet each other until then, whereas pepsisprite HAS to happen during the game, the 3 year trip to be precise.

all they had were those 3 years together, really, before everything went to shit. obviously they had known each other before then, but that was john and dave. the "real" dave, before the specifications had to be made. it's kinda sad how because of the timeframe that pepsisprite would be able to work out in, they could never actually have a relationship. like they were both dealing with their own issues (most of which never were resolved, not fully) but it mightve fixed them tbh.

thats really why I'm a big fan of back to the beginning post game aus that include the splinters because their stories are never really completely resolved, most of them are sort of just brushed away or swept into something new (e.g. davepeta)

also going back to what I said earlier on how johndirk mirrors pepsisprite in a way, it does! but there's a lot of nuance to the situations? davesprite is more like bro than dave is, thus making him more like dirk, but he's still a dave yknow. pepsisprite is actually a closer parallel to jakehal, especially by the end of the boat trip with the vaguely antagonistic relationship the two of them have.

actually i think they should be kismesis sometimes as a treat. john has so much emotion and anger built up and having somewhere to vent out that frustration would probably be really good for him. at the same time, though, they're also moirails because john and dave are quite literally the closest humans can get to moirallegiance. john and davesprite transcend quadrants in the actual definition of it, embodying the quads all at once instead of vacillating.

davekat (a ship most people consider to embody all quads) sort of does something similar, however a lot of the time their characterization is of vacillation between redrom and blackrom vs where pepsisprite is happening simultaneously.

davesprite *is* proud of john and he does really love his friends, however because of the trauma he went through growing up (which was later reinforced by all the shit that went down in the game) he can only express so "ironically" or backhandedly, and john is so repressed to hell and back that *he's* not even sure what emotions he's feeling half the time

I think the fact that the two of them can so effortlessly communicate despite all that, though, really shows you their relationship. john can see the genuine in davesprite's "ironic" statements, and davesprite can pick out john's feelings through all the happy freedom bullshit. they communicate so well despite everything because they're best friends and because they've known each other so long. davesprite is important to john just like john is important to davesprite, and they always end up right back next to each other.

Mhmm I sure love thinking of the reality where we did get more time to really know Karai and her dynamics with the bros. Losing her hit hard in the finale, but it would’ve hit much, much harder had we known Karai longer and really saw her relationships develop with everyone.

I especially would have been interested in her dynamic with Leo, as past iterations often have the two of them clash in ideals and the like while still sharing many characteristics. Two sides of the same coin, and all that. Her specifically being the bros’ Gram-Gram also adds a whole new dynamic as well.

Imagine how interesting it would be, to have Karai start off on Leo’s side for once, showing wholly just how alike the two are at their cores and bonding as family without the worry of betrayal or animosity that other iterations suffer through, only to have Karai die anyway. Their parting hug and the desperate look of horror Leo wears later on would have hit that much harder, I feel.

i reread my own MiA fics constantly but i've actually been scared to reread the one single published LOGH fic because i'm absolutely convinced it's going to be, like, embarassingly bad on a second read and i will become Ashamed, especially because the person i gifted it to is very much what i would call a Very Good Writer, in both prose quality and the fic-specific parameter of understanding and building off of preexisting characterization and canon for the same exact characters i wrote

For all of the “Raph raised himself AND his brothers” fans out there I bring this train wreck of a thought (I’m a lil sleepy so sorry if it doesn’t make sense or if I repeat myself a lot-)

We do not in fact have any actual evidence that splinter was neglectful to the boys when they were little. In fact, we have the opposite.

All of these flashbacks indicate that Splinter acc spent a LOT of time with his boys-

With Mikey, he was obviously coached in his art, a smol child can’t paint like that no matter how talented they are so we can see that splinter put in the time/effort to get Mikey the supplies and teach him how to do it well. Which probably means he researched and learned it himself first, idk I just can’t really see Yoshi knowing how to paint/draw that well but that’s just a theory.

With raph and Leo, their lemonade stand is structurally sound: obviously not put together by an 8 year old, and there’s a lotta lemons lyin around that were probably a bit difficult to find, and just LOOK at their faces here they are definitely familiar with this kind of father/son shenaniganizing-also just LOOK at raph. That’s a happy child, one full of excitement and happiness, not a kid who had to grow up too fast. Also his dad is literally right there in the picture

And then with Donnie, I can’t really tell what he’s doing in the background (it’s a bomb) but what i take from that screenshot is that Donnie feels safe/loved enough to come to Splinter when he gets hurt. And Splinters taking care of him!! And, Donnie is wearing clothes, which shows that he went out and got clothes for them but also didn’t force the boys to wear them if they didn’t want to (see other screenshots lol) which also goes to show that he lets his boys choose who they wanna be and what they wanna do. At any point he could’ve forced all of them to train as ninja, at any point he could’ve made clothes mandatory, and at any point he could’ve forced them to drop things that made them happy like skating or science or art but nah. He was supportive every step of the way.

Now am I saying he was perfect? No. Am I saying he couldn’t have done anything better? No. What I’m saying is that Raph acc did not have to raise himself and his brothers. Splinter acc gave them a pretty good childhood, all things considered and it kinda makes me sad when ppl bash Rise Splinter or continue the neglectful parent trope. Again, I’m not saying he did everything right, he def could have spent more time with his kids on an individual basis and he should’ve been more present, but let’s cut him some slack bc he did a really good job at raising the boys. And he got so much better as the show progressed! But that’s another post lol. I’m also not trying to take away Raphs oldest sibling syndrome, he still def has that from being the leader and watching his bros while splinter was away-I’m just saying he didn’t have to do it ALL alone.

Look in the end he’s doing his best and his best was really good for what they had. He’s a good dad, he’s not neglectful.

jack could’ve hit his head against the counter ten more times and the song would still be ringing through his ears like a splinter that wouldn’t come out of his hand.

quinns hand made contact with the back of jacks head. “knock it off, jack.”

jack groaned, shoving his head into his arms. he groaned again, this time the noise being muffled due to the his arm. “she wrote a song about me, quinn.”

quinn rolled his eyes. “you don’t know its about you” he told.

jack scoffed, head shooting up. “she literally called me out. the parties, that stupid red sea reference, even the chorus. its so obviously me. and then her newer single that dropped thirty minutes ago?’

quinn shrugged, “could be about trevor”

jack rolled his eyes, “no way in hell, quinn. they never hooked up and her newer one is about some guy hooking up with her later on—“

“you sound obsessed, jack.” quinn told. jack looked down, embarrassed.

“whats jack obsessed with?” trevor asked, walking inside the kitchen. he stole a grape from jack and popped it into his mouth.

“y/n’s song” quinn spoke.

trevor scoffed, “why are you so hung up on it? its just music.” trevor shrugged.

“hes upset because hes getting called out.”

jack groaned again, head hitting the counter.

quinn rolled his eyes again. “you’ve gotta stop doing that dude. listen— she probably made these ages ago and just now got to releasing them.”

trevor popped another grape in his mouth. “not too sure about that, but i know she started writing them when you two broke up.”

luke slowly walks in. “seriously? you guys are torturing the man talking about his ex.”

jack nods, signifying lukes words to be true.. luke goes into the cupboard to grab a plate. “just ignore it.” he shrugged.

trevor snorted. jack sent the boy a glare, causing his laughter to abruptly stop. “how can i just ignore it? shes getting big and her music is everywhere already.” he asked.

quinn gave him a look. “then face it, jack. you can’t keep putting yourself in denial for something you caused.”

jack let out an exasperated groan for the 100th time. “gee, thanks quinn. way to make me feel better.”

“dont start giving him shit, jack.” luke spoke.

jack rolled his eyes. “whatever, im going to my room.” he got up and went for the stairs.

all three boys looked around at each other. silence fell through the room. suddenly, the sliding door opens. “whats going on?” cole asked.

“quinn picked his side of the argument.” trevor spoke, slightly glaring at quinn.

quinn gave one back, “dont act innocent, trevor. you screwed her over too. you and jack need to own up to it and stop cowering like little kids. you are both in your twenties for fucks sake. grow up.”

quinn went off to his room, leaving a wide eyed group of boys behind.

jacks brows furrowed as he listened to the song in his earbuds. his girlfriend napped next to him as he sat up on the bed. he hates to admit it, but he kinda deserved this.

“lets fast forward to three hundred awkward blind dates later. if shes got blue eyes, i will surmise that you’ll probably date her. you dream of my mouth before it called you a lying traitor, you search in every model—“

he stopped the song, taking his earbuds out and tossing them to the floor. he cheated, and now was dating the girl he cheated with. it was sad, really.

fiona, she was a woman who loved money. jack, was a man who loved attention. maybe that’s why they were together. but she wasn’t horrible like people said, right?

quietly, he went to tik tok and made a fake account, that way she knew he didn’t stalk her profile. i mean— she has no idea he even uses it still.

jack searched fionas name up, ultimately clicking on her profile. she had one video up. he clicked on it.

ick ick ick ick

she was lip syncing that really terrible audio that went ‘he chose me, he dont want you. he chose me’ and honestly, jack was appalled.

but before he could open the comments, she started to wake up. he swiped out of the app and deleted it, tossing his phone to the side afterwards.

“hey baby.” he smiled.

now that we dont talk!

OKAY SO! Yes!! Leo was raised by big mama, and the others, by Splinter~ So I suppose I'd consider it a separated AU! :)

Not gonna reveal toooo much on Splinter atm cause I actually have a bit of a whole mini-arc thing for him planned, he may be filling in his role of absent father once more guys im sorry- /lh

The others were told to get some of their own experience out at sea, But obviously, the only knowledge they have of it is through what stories Splinter has shared with them and the minimal training he's taught em. very bare-bones stuff. So they are kinda just out there wandering with no real goal or idea of what to actually do

Until they find leo that is!!

Despite finding him, the uh, the guys... don't actually know that leo..is their brother...YET!! YET!

And vice versa, Leo just saw these guys and was like

"Oh, this lot looks cool~ and i am desperate for a crew and im alone out here and kinda sad and ihavenoideawhatimdoingOHGOD- so uh, join me? :)"

totally unbeknownst to him that they are his bro's/that he even HAS brothers. As IF big mama would ever give him that type of hope yk? ;)

the three already know April too, she joins later on after the ship pulls into a shipping port and finds her trying to pick a fight with a rouge mayhem who stole her boot.

I watched it 🤭🙌🐢💜❤️💙🧡

so good! so cute!!! spoilers below the cut ↓

soooooo I really really really enjoyed how much effort they put into making them like sad about their circumstances, the reality of it all, being a mutant and wanting to be accepted by humans,

Splinter not being a human to begin with but just a rat and quite frankly traumatized by humans all his life so very distrustful and doesn’t want his sons going through that or getting killed, and what tops the cake is that he actually tried to go out on his own with the tots, only to be instantly turned on, which just solidified the fear! even though he wasn’t just a rat anymore he was still cast out, still shunned!

but the turtles were too young to really remember that so they had endless hope, at least Mikey, Donnie, and Raph, kinda sorta Leo especially when April came onto the scene 🤭

WHICH SPEAKING OF THAT! Idk how I feel, super cute, Leo liking April instantly reminded me so much of 2k12 Donnie maybe a less intense version, all the scenes where romance was implied wasn’t so heavy (maybe slightly cringe) but still had me smiling so I guess I’m for it????? Still need to think on it more, overall my thoughts are : cute ✨ Leo was just being so cute 💀

THE BROTHERS WERE DRAGGING HIM OUT THO, like practically the whole first half of the movie, which is typical for tmnt, but gah damn 😂 it was so apparent when just Donnie, Mikey, and Raph would group up/link up, because Leo would constantly “rat” them out to the rat! Super different vibes from rise!leo for sure, that was kinda switched where Mikey was the one who couldn’t really lie… and it wasn’t about lying per say, just Leo being a pleaser? or a good kid? or wanting to do the right thing??? maybe that’s all the same thing as not wanting to lie 😂

anyhow, my favorite part had to be the very first fight scene the bros go into! Leo springing into action, being the one to propel his brothers into danger all because he wanted to help April (again so cute) get her scooter back! Technically their fault too! Anyhow they were getting whooped but also holding their own simultaneously, and just thinking quickly on their feet and helping each other out, it was all pretty intense and very stressful like where Mikey almost got run over twice 😨 I was like oml someone do SOMETHING!!!!! Thankfully we got big bro Raph, always coming in clutch! But yeah I just really enjoyed the first fight and them coming out on top! And right after being accepted by their first human aka April O’Neil!!!!!!!!! :D

There’s so much more to say, I could quite literally write down everything that happened in words but not gonna go there 💀💀 anyone wanna just gush about the movie?!? What was your favorite part??! What do you guys think about Leo x April???

Would a Body Swap Rise/2012 crossover be better with only The Boys being body swapped across dimensions, or would it be better if all characters were? Or just The Boys and Splinters?

Because on one hand, if it's just The Boys then I think 2012 Splinter would notice These Aren't My Sons' Souls right away and get things jumpstarted

On the other hand... it'd be really funny for 2012 Splinter to wake up short and round and Danny Devito Shaped while Rise Splints wakes up tall as shit

Anyway, 2012 Raph suddenly being the tallest would make him insufferable, and when he discovers this body has Mystic Powers to become even BIGGER he's just a menace. He does however keep hitting his head on everything and knocking stuff over because he's not used to such Width. Muscle memory shocks him when the body instinctually reacts with Hugs to his brothers having a bad time, and how it's clearly common because the body holds at just the right angle to none of the spikes or sharp edges of his shell jab his brother. It's kinda nice.

Meanwhile Rise Raph is trying to adjust to being a whole foot shorter and way less wide. He keeps reaching for things he should be able to grab easily and realizing he needs to lean way over to grab it. Leo keeps patting him on the head like he's a dog. he doesn't dislike it except for the smugness Leo does it with. Muscle Memory keeps affecting all of them and they first learn this when Raph by The Body's Instinct slaps one of them on the back of the head. He promptly bursts into tears about it.

Rise Donnie revels in being the tallest now and Is A Problem about it, but the tooth gap irritates him to no end, he can't stop running his tongue over it. He discovers tech is WAY harder to get in this universe as well and is horrified by how he must work with things like Manhole Covers and scraps, and even more horrified to find out how much Muscle Memory this body has in regards to navigating the military junkyard (not because he fees bad for 2012 but because this scrapyard isn't even that good but the muscle memory implies this is the best place to get tech here and it's all he has to work with and he hates it).

2012 Donnie is in candyland and fucking loves this giant lab with tech that The Kraang could only wish they had a d when he discovers the mystic tech powers? He passes out. He's probably having the best time of everyone (when they're not pressuring him to work faster on getting them back to their own bodies). He knows that since Memories have a physical makeup in brains they should technically be able to remember things these bodies have done and thought, but there's a spiritual block so they can't access any actual memories. He finds he stims a lot more in this body and actually rather enjoys it.

Rise Mikey is delighted by the muscle memory breakdancing he can get up to in the 2012 universe, yet horrified by the things this body seems to be used to eating. He almost eats a Trash Pizza Slice with ants on it, pauses, realizes, and throws up. He decides the best thing he can do for this Other Mikey is train the body how to cook well. Ice Cream Kitty knows it's not her Mikey so she's sad but she doesn't dislike Rise, she just misses her bestie. Rise is so relieved by the never-ending chains on the nunchucks, though definitely confused how they never end since this universe doesn't seem to have Mystic Powers.

2012 Mikey thinks the art on his shell is awesome and loves that he finds a closet with turtlenecks and art stuff. He steps into the kitchen one day and by sheer muscle memory cooks an artisanal meal and everyone is blown away. He thinks he got the best body out of everyone and he has fire powers now! Which is concerning to everyone and he does set things on fire regularly. Good thing the Donnie Body here seems to be prepped for that because the first time it happens The Battle Shell opens up and puts out the fire, which causes a new panic because DONNIE YOUR SHELL WHAT HAPPENED WHY IS IT METAL- oh good it's a covering AHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHY'S YOUR SHELL SOFT AHHHHHHHHHHH

Rise Leo doesn't like 2012's body one bit, especially the larger feet. He also hates not being able to teleport. And his muscle memory has him Naruto Running across buildings. He's having a bad time, he hates this. Space Heroes is cool though he likes Space Heroes. He's trying to get Donnie to figure out how to bring the show back to their dimension. He's also so surprised by how Meditation is one of the body's first instincts when in the dojo, and by how many super formal moves it knows. He does enjoy getting to brag about it and pretending to be Old and Wise to his brothers while running through the motions of these katas he doesn't even know the names of.

2012 Leo is just. So confused. He keeps posing. He keeps lounging. He sleeps in way more. This body walks with a more casual gait. Fascinating. And a little weird and uncomfortable and scary. He's trying to enjoy it but he's not sure how he feel about it. He loves the portals/teleportation, though when he discovers one of the main ways this body uses them is throwing one katana to teleport to it he knows he must keep this fact from Raph as long as possible because Raph has never let him live down the "A ninja never throws their weapon!" thing.

Anyway I don't think I'd swap April, Casey (who'd be swapped with Cassandra and not Casey Jr), or the villains because someone needs to notice The Boys are acting unlike themselves, and if The Splinters are swapped too that doesn't leave a ton of options. If I did, though, we all know 2012 Casey said he kinda enjoyed being a girl, so he'd be pretty happy with his situation, especially since with the muscle memory he's also a ninja now.
