So fun fact about me irl I work with children but often my teacher language slips out like telling my friends to say “bye bye bus”, telling another person in my lecture writing to “be nice to the pencil, it’s your friend.” And greeting a roomful of grown as adults with good morning boys and girls. It’s mortifying but How do you think the companions would react to having a teacher!tav slip up like that.

Dealing with a Teacher Tav

Gale

He delightfully plays along whenever you tell him to thank a stranger or say goodbye to an inanimate object. He thinks it's very silly and joyous.

Teachers have always been a big part of his life, it doesn't phase him in the slightest when you unawarly awake the deep memories of being in wizards pre-school for him.

Says good morning to you back, adding a teacher honorific at the end for the sake of being playful while asking if you've finally graded the homework he handed in.

He gives you an apple occasionally. He thinks he is very hilarious.

Shadowheart

She freezes in awkwardness whenever it happens, not sure if you’re being serious or just playing around. Sometimes, you don't even register slipping up as go on with your day, leaving her wondering if she's imagining things.

She has zero experience with the school system, completely confused by the need to say thank you for carriage after it arrived. It's just a carriage, why should she?

One time while her and Laezel were arguing, you used the same call you'd use in the classroom to get the kids to quiet down and it completely caught them both off guard. They just stood there baffled, forgetting their original argument.

Laezel

Why, yes, she is very familiar with teachers. In fact, she was the best out of her class, ask any githyanki teacher, and they'd tell you endless praise about her throat cutting techniques and sword welding stances.

You, whoever, use very unusual teaching techniques. How would learning a song about washing your hand and brushing your teeth help her in slaying her enemies?

Intriguing, so you take advantage of the brain's tendency to latch on to phrases that rhyme, which makes them easier to remember? And you encode your melodies with instructions to embed them into the impressionable youth?

Huh. She actually is impressed. She made her decision, you will lend your teaching skills to help her embed the most effect way of fracturing someone's spine into a melody to spread to the githyanki children.

Wyll

As someone who has been an unofficial teacher for so many kids throughout his years, he can relate to your struggle a lot. He slips up more than he cares to admit.

The both of you meeting early in the morning while still groggy and tired, your brains working on automatic mods as you greet each other with the same high pitched enthusiastic voice you use to greet a toddler.

Then just stare at each other, complete understanding between the two of you. Like two people accidentally using their customer service voice in front of the other.

You struggle to tie your boots once, and he unconsciously bends down to tie them for you while using the rabbit loop euphemism, only to stop in his tracks as he realises what he's doing.

He uses a curse word once, and you immediately use your teachers voice and say, "we don't speak like that here, that's wasn't very nice."

You're both tired, you both need a nap and neither of you brings it up when the other slips.

Karlach

Much like Gale, she finds it extremely amusing. Top tier comedy to her. Unlike Gale, she hasn't been to any proper schooling system, so she doesn't exactly know what most of these phrases mean or imply.

In a way, it lets her pretend she was a part of something like a school in her youth, like she could've had a normal childhood like everyone else.

She'd indulge you, saying goodbye and thank you to the pigeon that delivered her a letter, or overhearing Wyll's rabbit loop ryhme and whispering it under her breath as she ties her own boots. Who knew this could've been so easy?

Astarion

You remind him of how Leon was with his daughter back in Cazador's manor. Astarion never was close with any of them, but still, he sometimes overheard him attempting to give his daughter a semblance of a normal childhood and growth.

It's endearing when you accidentally use your teaching ways while dealing with the owlbear cub, but he'll never admit it.

Doesn't indulge you with it, he has appearance to keep. Well, unless he has a chance to twist your innocent meaning words into a sex or gorey joke like the 12y old humour that he has.

Ah, the scrowl on your face is the exact same one Leon had around him, such fond memories.

Halsin

Ah, you bring him back to his old days of having to deal with the children at the grove. Although his methods focused more on showing them that nature is a friend rather than inanimate objects.

But who is he to judge your ways? If anything he could learn a thing or two from you to add to his skillset.

Tells you about the fables that were passed down from elf to elf throughout the generations, animal stories have always done a great part in teaching him morality.

Do you happen to have any? Maybe you could tell it to the children of the grove, they are good kids.

Minthara

As a noble, she was only given the best and most prestigious of teachers while growing up. Even the ones that weren't a drow would still be considered the best of the best, crème de la crème.

Yet not a single one of them applied such...childish methods. etiquette and discipline were taught by the lash and threat of punishment, not lullabies and gentle guidance.

....it's not as bad as she imagined.

She doesn't get why some of your companions find it amusing. She doesn't bother indulging either.

But sometimes, sometimes, when it's just the two of you, and she is sure not a single soul is around, she will reply with a pun with the most deadpan face expression you've seen.

Jaheira

Despite what most would think, she actually integrated the same methods into her teachings back when her kids were little, it just happened to be weaved with her more dangerous lifestyle ascept.

Here comes the plane, with the airplane usual holding a good dosage amount of poison to build resistance.

A short rhyme about what to check before leaving the house, except the list has a suspicious amount of daggers and trap disarm kits in it.

If it works, it works, so what if she had to alter a kid's book about a honey loving yellow bear into one with decipherable texts to teach them Harpers' secret communication language.

Minsc

Ah! Boo does use the same method on him sometimes, the two of you have a lot in common. Although Boo's methods do involve a bit of biting every now and then.

Say, how about he teaches you some fables from Rashemen, a lot of them are about a rabbit who got lost after not listening to his witch frog companion.

You could use it in your teachings later! Show the youth the importance of good teamwork. Yes, he is aware of the fact he didn't listen to Jaheira and got captured by the cult. No, he doesn't see why this is relevant? Why is Boo suddenly agreeing with you? He is supposed to be on his side.

What is Sivvus' opinions on each of the companions?

Astarion: Sivvus sees Astarion as practical, rather than whiny. He took every single one of his complaints seriously and thought them over - The Goblin camp, for example, was a big one. ‘Itll take hours, we dont have time, we should just go’, honestly? With a worm in your head that you think for sure is gonna nerf you in 48 hours? Valid. However, Siv did NOT like being touched without consent, and Astarion found himself hanging from the trees by vines after the first bite. This led to Astarion having to try VERY hard to get back into his good books, and by the end of Act 2, Siv had loosened up a little and Astarion learned how to communicate more effectively. Sivvus rating: 5/10

Gale: Gale provided a wealth of information, and was always solution-oriented, positive, and quick with praise where warranted. Sivvus’ father is a cleric who fell in love with his God at one point, so he kinda gets the vibe, but he doesnt approve of Gales self-devaluation. Due to having a brother that is also a Wizard, and a wizard obsessed with a particular thing at that, Gale was a familiar comfort in many ways. Plus, he wasnt a pushover- Gale never felt intimidated by Sivvus, so he always pushed back when needed. Sivvus rating: 9/10

Karlach: Loud, excitable, easy to rile up, always on the move. She reminds him a bit of his little sister, which was endearing enough, but Sivvus was easily annoyed by her until he got used to her. Karlach’s infectious positivity and desire to live in the moment helped him transition towards acceptance of his own situation. Sivvus rating: 5/10

Lae'zel: Efficient, straightforward, honest? Sivvus approves! Bit murderous and enjoys killing and battle simply because she lives for the conflict in blind faith towards a litch queen? Sivvus Disapproves! He doesnt like the things that motivate Laezel, even if he does like the way she communicates verbally. He has no desire to mix pain and pleasure, but he does love a straightforward conversation. Sivvus rating: 6/10

Shadowheart: Minds her business and keeps things on task, always supportive but never wants to be the leader. Calming energy, easy to be around, knows how to mind her boundaries and Sivvus’. Same taste in wine, same slow-to-bond energy. Sivvus rating: 7/10

Wyll: Reminds him of something he lost, without knowing that hes being reminded of it. The way Wyll acts makes something inside of him almost-hurt. He wants to be annoyed, and he is. Treats Wyll like a punching bag verbally but Wyll takes it so well and turns it around on him so gently that they end up somehow making friends anyway. Sivvus rating: a very confused 7/10

Halsin: Sivvus takes out all his anger about being ripped out of the Feywild on Halsin, even though as an archdruid Halsin is the closest thing to ‘home’ that he has access to. Halsin treats him with a LOT of understanding and soothes his edges in the way that a master animal handler would deal with a particularly stubborn horse. Because he knows the fey, he knows Sivvus in a way that no one else can, and hes patient enough to deal with his spikes and snarls. Sivvus rating: a very reluctant 8/10

Your post about how relevant the companions are to the story peaked my interest. I've gone through this game about 4 times and can confidently say that only shadowheart and laezel have any story relevance. Everyone else could be taken out and the game would be the same. Spoilers if you haven't beaten it. --- wyll is only kinda important because of his father who is a big lore character in the dnd universe. Duke raven guard is pretty well known from the whole accent into avernus campaign. Karlach my sweet girl literally doesn't have anything and is in fact LACKING -coughunfinishedstorycough-. Gale you get to meet cool people like elminster and mystra but otherwise... could stay in that broken portal and miss nothing. And astarion just has a cool longish side quest about a vampire master. Companions in games don't always need main story relevance but its crazy that the most popular is the twink vampire man.

i mean id say all the other companions are definitely tied to the story, not the the extent that shadowheart and lae’zel are (i genuinely think the game would be a pretty unplayable without them?? for your first run i mean) but like theyre definitely relevant to major characters and events! karlach being tied to wyll, gortash, mizora, zariel, your interactions with raphael are all very important for the story imo. its not the skeleton of the game for sure but i think theres a lot less content without them whereas compared to astarion its really just not the case. AND I LIKE ASTARION. TO BE CLEAR. i think what he adds to the game is interesting and compelling, but i . i literally never used him in my first playthrough (rogue moments) and while replaying in all my other games i need him to be the lockpicker, and the game is so.. the same </3 especially if you arent romancing him.

i wish i was more surprised that hes sweeping in the fandom but its soooo typical that the tragic white boy character is The adored one. even to the point of ignoring his actual character being sex repulsed + horribly sexually traumatized, bc ohhh hes so sexy . idk , insane to me

bg3 modern au: liberal arts college edition!

ft. my bard tav abrielle! bc it’s just funnier that way.

okay so like imagine they all go to a small like 1500 person liberal arts college and they’re kinda this insufferable little friend group. something in me has called me to make all the clerics gender studies majors so take that how you will. also there are no tadpoles and everyone is happy mostly and has no problems whatsoever

companions:

- my tav abrielle is the worlds most annoying girl and she’s a theatre major. so insufferable, but unfortunately she’s talented and people like her bc of that. or at least her friends like her. she’s dating astarion and they are the worst most awful to catch in public bisexual/pansexual he/they she/they couple bc they are both so annoying about eachother (lovingly)

- astarion is the most pretentious asshole in the english department. he’s a classic lit major and he is such a stickler for what actually counts as “literature” everyone in the theatre dept knows him though bc he’s always at their rehearsals. he and abrielle recite horrible shakespeare quotes at eachother and no one can tell if it’s ironic or not.

- shadowheart is a sexuality womens and gender (SWAG) studies major! (bc gay) she’s roommates with abrielle and then also had a queer fictions class with astarion and they became sassy besties after being horrible to eachother in the seminars for that class.

- karlach is the number one star of the women’s rugby team, she’s buff she’s hot and every sapphic at the school knows her and wants her. she’s sexy yes but she’s also such a sweetheart and she also volunteers to do stage building for the theatre dept from time to time bc she’s just that sweet and wants to put her strength to good use.

- laezel is on some sports team like lacrosse that isn’t one of the colleges big ones but that woman is a D3 WARRIOR. she is COMMITTED. she and shadowheart hooked up first week of freshman year and now it’s just kind of… a situation… they kinda avoided eachother for a little bit at first after hooking up but then they became buddies but also are secretly in love with eachother homoeroticisim etc etc.

- wyll is a political science major and also participates in the plays outside of the classroom! big romeo vibes! his dad is also the school president and people like kinda know that but don’t really bring it up bc everyone knows they have a weird relationship.

- gale is a physics major who had the unfortunate outcome of being astarions randomly assigned freshman year roommate. they have been good buddies ever since even if they pretend they aren’t! he and wyll have this weird flirtationship thing going on and that influences gale to come see the theatre shows so he can support wyll and see him be handsome on stage. also gale has an extremely ambitious thesis idea that he works really hard on and never shuts up about to everyone’s dismay

- dame aylin is the captain of the rugby team that karlach is on and everyone knows her bc she’s always talking about her girlfriend and they are just the lesbian it couple of the school. isobel is a gender studies major who loves her big buff athlete girlfriend and they are happy and in love and will be gay married.

i may add more to this as i keep coming up with things but that’s it for now!!

random OC ask: what is the most unique thing about your OC? what is the most mundane thing about them?

how do they feel about those two aspects?

answer got kinda long so i'm hiding it a little (it is not grammatically correct and is mostly rambling)

siobhan had a very unique childhood and way of life pre-abduction, my working Lore for her (so far) is that

-she was orphaned in an accident (probably a carriage crash or other travel related tragedy) when she was very young (full blooded wood elf, so probably around 15) somewhere just outside of rivington (she's baldurian) and she was found by a small circle of elderly spore druids

-she stayed with them because she didn't know if she had anywhere else to go and they offered to look after her

-she learned druidic magic and took care of her new little family until they also died (probably around 15 or so years later so shed be around 30)

-she spent the next decade or so wandering and being a friend to the forests outside the city but visiting when she needed to or just got bored, keeping up with local gossip

-she appreciates the gift of druidic magic that she received by virtue of her upbringing but can't help be curious about the life she left behind, nobody ever came looking for her so she assumes she truly doesn't have any living relations. she wishes she knew where she came from

the most mundane thing about her is that she believes that one on one she could beat all of her companions in a fight, she never states this outright but believes it very firmly and has batman-like contingencies for them:

-gale is a squishy wizard and without all the equipment SHE found she'd snap him in half

-she thinks wyll would be off his game if he had to fight an ally so it would give her an edge

-laezel has to get close with her swords so the plan would be ranged spells

-she thinks shadowheart would be a more even match but worst comes to worst she can wildshape into a wolf

-astarion is tricky but she can wear medium armor so she thinks she can outlast him

-minsc is minsc and she could talk him into submission

-jaheira IS old so she could probably take her

-halsin would probably be the most even match but she thinks she has more pure grit (she is delusional)

-karlach she did already beat in a fight so its settled

plus she can turn into an owlbear so everyone that isnt halsin and jaheira is automatically handicapped

if they had to be put in a “get along shirt” with a companion, who would it be?

I feel like everyone at camp got along almost too well with Gum, everyone but Shadowheart tried to shoot their shot with him. He bumps heads with Lae'zel the most, and kind of tests Wyll's patience at times bc cultural differences, it's not enough to warrant the shirt but I'd say laezel if I haaaad to pick. Very awkward if it's in act 2.

I'm gonna expand outside the companions and toss out there that Gum /did not/ like Voss's vibe and he kinda fits this more. He would be so mad getting stuck to Voss considering all Gum went through and what Voss represents.

their companions are gossiping about them behind their back! who is it and what are they saying?

Lmao I'm gonna stop here and say that everyone at Gums camp gossips directly to each others face or least within earshot. Wyll, Halsin and Shadowheart openly complain about how Gum encourages Gale to go off too much they're both so drained by Gale yapping.

This is directly in reference to the vibe from those lines where Gale will fish for dating advice, Halsin's reply is kinda mean and honestly it probably comes from annoyance I understand.

Otherwise laezel is a little pressed in act 2 when they cut off their fling, and even more pressed when she couldn't go to the crèche, so you KNOW she was running her mouth to karlach and Wyll. But even then she and him were still fine she was just big mad for a minute.

what’s the description of their underwear in the inventory menu?

I'm playing BG3 for the first time and I am so full of regrets

So its my first time ever playing something like Baldurs Gate. My friend gave it to me because we planned to play DnD in the future and it would be sort of like an intro class to me. Well, I am happy to say I am enjoying so much, we have an inside joke that it is ruining my life. Glad I'm currently unemployed so I can play it on hours for end (blessing in disguise????? Haha)

Anyway like I said its all a first time for me. And I DIDNT KNOW YOU CAN ROMANCE PEOPLE UNTIL LAEZEL JUST CAME AT ME, a mostly conservative, easily shy, filled with religious trauma bisexual woman who blushes at anything remotely sexual irl, AND I PANICKED.

I didn't know about approval ratings, I just thought I was choosing the right options and that was just a thing so they could give you a perk if its high. I was too focused on not dying every single combat that I MISSED MY SHOT WITH KARLACH.

I was in Act 2 by the time I was like, wait, I can romance other people when Wyll made the moves on me too???!?!?! (Then I realized Halsin was also tryna flirt with me at the party i think and I did not say yes to Wyll because I said yes to Laezel. I basically blushed and squealed and covered my eyes for most of it with my friend laughing beside me because Laezel was oh so forward. But also because I thought, I could break up with Lazel and be with Karlach when the time comes.) I was working so hard on getting Karlach's approval but by the time I spoke with Dammon (I DIDN'T USE ANIMAL SPEAK ON HIM ON ACT 1 HUHUHU) on act 2 and got her the infernal engine duct tape, my approval wasn't really high enough. And i didn't realize that I missed the romance option for Karlach in Act 1's party (when I finally googled it like, ten minutes ago), i did say I liked her but my approval wasn't enough and she brushed me off. Anyway I'm currently 97 hours in, first playthrough, and I was like, WHY CAN'T I ROMANCE KARLACH YET, I already broke up with Laezel and I kinda missed out on all the lines on Gale by accident when I thought, hey how come I can't romance Karlach yet? And then I checked on my approval and was like wtf this should be okay now??? Everytime she calls me soldier, my soul dies a little bit so like, why can't i be with her yet???

(My friend has started making fun of me saying I'm treating BG3 like an otome game with some battle mechanics and like, hell yeah man, I really wanna be more than friends with Karlach)

And so I decided to finally google, and now my soul has left my body because I've missed everything. I was even thinking of romancing Gale to like, ease the pain while waiting on Karlach to like me but ultimately my choices were doo doo for him but I was like, no biggie, we want Karlach anyway. Its fiiiiine.

But nope. Everything is not fine according to my research. I have to erase maybe 70 hours of gameplay or try to cheat my way in (if I could ever understand the instructions) and be willing to gamble with my saves.

And now I'm just really very sad. I did not try to romance Astarion or Shadowheart or Halsin because my playstyle didn't really require me to bring them and I wasn't really interested in them.

So now I'm stuck at the end of Act 2, loveless and full of regrets.

When I try to see if I can get back together with Laezel because even if she was way too forward, she was good to me, I can't do that because my approval is too high with her. Apparently I have to make her mad at me and then build it back up?

Sigh. Idk, I just wanted to vent out the sadness.

finished bg3 😭

messy and immediate thoughts on endings (mostly gale centric lmfao) ->

absolutely obsessed with the game but I'm really fanging for the definitive edition bc act 3 was a fucking doozy in some aspects lmfao. really think if they can restore the upper city content or at the very least get their epilogue going it'll make a huge improvement. Like ppl are not kidding when they say this game just ENDS.

I got laezel riding off on orpheus' dragon, astarion running off into the city bc of the sun, wyll and karlach smoking cigars in avernus and gale wanting to get the crown back for mystra. Everyone else tho?? Absolutely no mention of shadowheart???? Same for halsin, jaehira and I think minsc had a single quip (lmfao)

Laezels scene was nice, wyll and karlachs rocked altho clearly wyll was just a stand in for the pc with no lines of his own? gales....well... homeboy wants to get the crown back for mystra and you're telling me my only options while romancing him are 'omg yay you'll be her chosen again' or 2 variations of 'you should get your god on' like DOG????

Ik some ppl have had an option to just encourage him to leave it at the bottom of the river? Didn't proc for me though fml.

Was feeling burned until he proposed in the next scene which ok... it's so over to we're so fucking back.

I hope he has an ending where he can stick it to mystra without getting overwhelmed by his own hubris like idk if it's out there or what. I tried to get his alternate act 3 romance scene to proc but it seems to be bugged right now and I'm not sure if that wouldve changed things or not. (going to the tabernacle immediately before proccing the boat scene)

overall very happy with his romance, there's some kinks that could've been ironed out with how his regular unromanced dialogue relating to mystra seems to make a dissonance with some of his romance dialogue where he's solely devoted to tav (specifically tabernacle scene and dock scene). its not like he wants to go back to her in a relationship way but.. just some jarring lines lmfao.

Wish tav had more options to hug ppl. Wish we got a tavern scene (abysmal waste) Wish the textures on ps5 weren't bugging the fuck out in the entire last hour thank god gales beard rendered properly in the proposal scene. Wish astarion didn't get such a slapstick ending when you're not romancing him. Wish act 3 just had...idk like more companion interaction beyond their questlines. Beginning of the game it felt like they wouldn't shut up but in the city it was almost crickets.

Reckon a citadel style DLC (or any DLC) would do absolute numbers but I'm kinda not expecting them to do dlc beyond the definitive edition for some reason.

Ok I just finished my 3rd run of bg3 and I think I'm done for a while atleast. I've been playing it like it's my full time job for like 2-3 weeks now forsaking all human contact pretty much and I think at this point I've squeezed as much content as I can be bothered for.

First run as what I'd say was normal for me, I played as a barbarian first and then swapped to wizard when I recruited karlach (which didnt happen until almost act 2 because I just kinda ignored wylls quest and honestly didnt realise I was missing a companion lol. Finished the game with my lesbian harem of karlach laezel and shadowheart

2nd run I went for a paladin build. This time I decided I was gonna be 100% good (as opposed to like 70% good) and so I took oath of the ancients. Managed to keep it for most of the run too but had to google some stuff and pay off the oathbreaker knight once. This time I also had laezel but I tried to include astarion more since people on tumblr keep frothing over him but he was still kinda meh for me until I looked up how to use rogues in combat. Unfortunately he still didn't like anything I did but atleast I found lockpicking a lot easier with his insane proficiencies.

3rd run I finally played durge and did the "resist" playthrough. This was def where my interest really started to fade because while durge adds a lot it's not like it's a whole new game or anything. The extra content was fun but a lot of times throughout this playthrough outside of the durge specific parts I felt like I was kinda doing chores. Like I'd sit down and be like ugh ok let's do this and this and this and I was kinda just numb to most of it. I think that helped in a way to make the more durge like decisions and being evil overall even tho I played a resist playthrough where I was basically as "good" as possible.

I have an idea for a 4th run where I go basically solo or with some hirelings ig and just go full dark urge. And ofc theres the companions stories themselves like playing as the characters. But I think I've kinda gotten so much out of this game that outside of the solo full durge run theres not gonna be a lot more content left. Main issue with replayability imo is the quality of life which makes the game absolutely miserable sometimes.

But yea now I'm hitting like the serious post game depression and I really want to find some other game to completely dedicate my life to but that's probably unhealthy lol

I think the best thing that came out of my bg3 experience was the complete lack of league of legends in the time I was playing it. Before bg3, even if I was playing other games I kinda came and went and played some league here and there in the middle of those games and in between games. This is honestly probably the longest I've ever gone without playing league since I started in 2018. And the thing that is stopping me from going back now is the fact that I had to get used to wasd controls for the camera in bg3 and I was absolutely dogshit at them and I still am now. But I tried playing an aram recently and tried to accidentally move my camera using wasd and kept automatically alt left clicking the bodies of the enemy champs as if they were gonna drop loot lmao. So yea I've lost a lot of my mechanics at league and honestly that's probably for the best for now.

Still kinda want an obsession to sink into but I'll resist the urge for now. I want to play titanfall 2 and armored core both so that's gonna be a bit of time. And uni stuff is probably gonna start soon and take up a bunch of my time so that's gonna be interesting for a bit. I'm somewhat trapped between doing the easy thing which is to become obsessed with something new and doing the hard thing which I want to do: aka live an normal and balanced life. Tough stuff.
