Shiraito Falls, Japan
Shiraito Falls in early June 2023 Here’s a trick/tip that can be useful when traveling: when flying through different countries, you can often book multi-day layovers without the cost going up significantly. In May, we went to Australia. After two weeks, on the way back, we flew All Nippon Airways into Tokyo. We were able to stay for 3 days in Tokyo and then fly onto Vancouver. While there, I…

HIDE Inspiration Talk 50 (# 16 - 18) - Translation
Blood, Sweat, and Tears
I don’t sweat a lot. So, out of these three, what flows most for me are the tears. I’m a crybaby. Blood doesn’t flow much for me either, because I am not a woman (laughs). I don’t sweat much. Even when I am on stage, there is hardly any sweat on my face, so my make-up doesn’t run. For the rest of my body, on the other hand, it’s terrible. When I am wearing closed clothes that don’t show a lot of skin, it feels like the Kegon Falls [famous waterfall near Nikko] inside (laughs). Eh, is it a requirement for idols that their faces don’t sweat? Well, I’m not a born idol (laughs). I’m crying for all sorts of reasons. Movies like “Ai to Shishun no Tabi” [transl. “A Journey of Love and Youth”] usually make my cry. When I watch a so-called tearjerker, I simply start crying at once. I get emotional just talking about it and have to cry, even if it’s not particularly sad. So, I cry a lot. If it’s especially sad, or happy, if the tension rises, my tear glands just let loose against my will.
Foreign Countries and Japan
If we’re talking about foreign countries, the first one that comes to my mind is, of course, America [US]. My hometown of Yokosuka is full of foreigners, and since I saw drunk foreigners around ever since I was a child, I didn’t particularly like them. If anything, you could say I hated them. But I liked western music. In my mind, the drunk foreigners in Yokosuka and the foreigners who made rock music are two different things altogether. Because now, I have the opportunity to meet foreigners who are experts in my line of work. Back in the day, being able to work with the foreigners in the world of rock music that I was drawn to simply made me happy.  Because it left a deep impression and was stimulating for me. Yet in contrast, working with those foreigners made me feel strongly that “I am Japanese”. Because at the end of the day, I carry the Japanese spirit after all (laughs).
Tokyo Dome
The first time I saw it, it filled me with awe and made me nervous, but with every year going there, I feel like it is getting smaller. It makes me wonder if it really is getting smaller, otherwise it would have to be me getting bigger (laughs). The only bands I went to see there from the audience were BUCK-TICK and the Stones.

How was the trip in Japan? I'm quite curious to know about that?
Mod Kit: It was even better than I’d hoped! We were on the border of Shinjuku and Shibuya, and there was SO MUCH to do. We shopped, we saw landmarks, we did tours outside the cities, and most importantly…

FOOD!!!
Little known fact, but your pal Mod Kit is SUPER food-motivated. Like, my mother has convinced me to go to events for free food. And Japan had so much new food for me to try. Highlights included beef tongue at the Korean BBQ, yuba at Kegon Falls, real hole-in-wall ramen, and the first time I ever enjoyed sushi! (Raw fish texture makes me feel sick, but this place had egg and salmon roe and those were great!)
Overall, it was great and I would highly recommends it!

On this day, one year ago...
Today I went to Kegon Waterfall in the morning, but honestly wasn't all that enamoured. I think after Kirifuri Falls no other waterfall could compete 😅 What didn't help is that I was PMSing, so I wasn't exactly in the best frame of mind.

But I didn't want to waste the day, so I walked up to Kanmangafuchi Abyss. It was either this day or the day before that I tried to rent a bike but couldn't figure out where to go. Google Timelines says both 😅 Anyway, it wasn't too far so I walked it, just listened to some music and enjoyed the lovely weather and the peaceful surroundings. I saw a snake too! :D

Just like yesterday, I cannot remember if it was today or yesterday I walked down the main market street in Nikko. Google Timelines says I walked a lot, and says I walked down that route, so maybe it was today??? 😅 Again, bad memory. I remember it being a nice walk, though.
I rested in the AirBnB in the afternoon. I was feeling pretty miserable by now. Period had started and I was NOT feeling great. So I thought, fuck it, it was the biggest Stardom show of the year that afternoon/evening, and finally I could watch it live at a sensible hour, as I was in Japan, so I decided to get some chocolate and dinner, bring it back to the AirBnB, and watch the show.
I went to Enya again, because it was reliable and they did takeout. As I was waiting, they brought me a cup of tea to wait with! I was so touched. I didn't order it, and they didn't charge me or ask me to pay, but they remembered I had a tea with my meals there, and brought me one while my food was getting cooked. Genuinely made my day.
The Stardom show was awesome too :D
A nice evening to cap off my trip to Nikko.
