OK, see, here's the thing:
I'm fine with Rei and Kazuki being friends only. That's absolutely fine! A family doesn't need to have two parents that have romantic feelings for each other! And also, we need more queerplatonic relationships and platonic life partner representation in media anyways! So, screw romance!
But then. The mf show pulls this sh*t on me:
LIKE, KAZUKI, MY DUDE WHY YOU HAVE THAT LOOK IN YOUR EYES HUH?
That scene is the definition of "and his gaze softened" YOU CAN'T TELL ME OTHERWISE
P.A. WORKS WHY YOU GOTTA DO THIS TO MEEEEE

Nothing, and I mean, NOTHING, beats the way Rei casually says that Kazuki is his partner without any sort of hesitation.

So, I know that people will be disappointed about this:
But as a Kazurei shipper, I love this conclusion, actually.
In fact, I think PA works did really well by not portraying Kazurei as a romantic relationship.
Platonic relationships are very important too!! Platonic partnerships already don't have enough representation in the media, let alone queer platonic relationships, so Kazuki and Rei's friendship really means a lot to me as an asexual person.
Their friendship isn't just the ordinary friendship we see in most animes because their relationship goes deeper than that as shown in this episode and previous ones too. I mean, Kazuki and Rei literally escaped a dangerous organization, started a new life, and raised their daughter together for ten years!! That's amazing and wholesome and just the best kind of love I've seen in media so far??
I think a lot of people forget that two people can experience more than just romantic love or friendship- some bonds go deeper than that, so instead of being upset or disappointed by the lack of Kazurei's romantic relationship, I think we should celebrate this amazing representation of a queerplatonic relationship instead!

I firmly believe that it’s a long time after they leave the organization and properly become Miri’s dads before Rei puts a suit on again.
Always having to wear one when he went to see his family must have given it a terrible association in his mind. And even if there’s a completely harmless reason to dress up after, I think he would blanch at it. And Kazuki would recognize this, always offering to dress down with him or making an excuse so they don’t have to go without making Rei feel bad about it.
But then some formal occasion comes up for Miri’s school and Rei steps out in a suit before Kazuki has a chance to even say anything about it. And damn, seeing Rei in a suit after going so long without it is a treat, but Kazuki is worried about him. Because Rei never said why he stopped wearing a suit, but Kazuki didn’t have to try hard to piece it together.
Still, when Kazuki steps a little closer so Miri can’t hear and asks “okay?”, Rei reaches out to give his hand a reassuring squeeze as he simply nods, mumbling a quiet “okay”. Because Kazuki has always been good at meeting Rei in the middle and figuring out what he really needs, and this is no exception. But he is okay now, and this is for Miri, not for his father— for his REAL family. So he can wear the suit.
He doesn’t say all of that, though Kazuki picks up on it anyways. He just tells Kazuki to hurry up and change or they’ll be late and Kazuki does nothing more than smile, pressing a kiss to the top of Rei’s head before rushing off to put on his own suit for the first time since they left the organization.
