you and oikawa started as neighbors!

initially he wasn’t fussed about the rumors of a new girl in town, he was just entering high school himself, so he had a lot to worry about

then he saw you walk out of the house right next to his and had to stop his jaw from dropping

he immediately approached you and asked if you wanted to walk to school together

(plus when he got to school he totally bragged to iwazumi that he got to walk the new girl to school AND she’s his neighbor 😌)

you guys didn’t start dating until your third year however

he asked you the night before the first day of school

“i don’t wanna pretend that i’m not head over heels for you anymore.”

he always comes to your house straight after practice

and sometimes even sneaks over in the middle of the night

he just loves spending time with you 🥲

you guys watch a lot of anime together, your favorite is Jujutsu Kaisen!

oikawa named every single one of your plants, so everytime he comes in your room he greets his favorites

sometimes he even texts you for updates on them

“how’s leggy” “how’s what” “that long stringy plant in your room” “my spider plant?” “it’s name is leggy”

he’s also super into fantasy now! you’re always reading books together :)

he loves taking you on dates to the plant nursery! and he’ll always treat you to whatever plant you want

sometimes he’ll even braid your hair 😊

i also have a headcanon that kawa loves studio ghibli so plenty of your dates consist of watching the best of their movies!

he gets interested in all the STEM stuff you tell him and 100% supports you in your plans for school!

“calm down! you’re gonna like it, just wait and see.”

you huff but continue to let him lead you. he was either really bad at leading someone or was intentionally misleading you so you wouldn’t know where your destination was.

“i feel like i’m getting kidnapped.”

“just one more second and… we’re here!”

“can i look now?” you were getting more excited by the minute!

“yep… 3, 2, 1!” oikawa’s hands moved and you blinked a few times to refocus. out in front of you laid a picnic blanket, complete with a basket, pillows, and your favorite drink. looking over your shoulder, the view from this spot overlooked your entire neighborhood, which was engulfed in warm light from the setting sun.

“tooru, i-“

“hold that thought!” he dashes to the basket, pulling out a beautiful cake. decorative frosting in the shade of your favorite color read “happy birthday rae”

you look up at him, tears brimming your eyes.
