I couldn't help but think about how great it is that Caspar and Linhardt are supposed to mirror their parents' friendship but are so very different from them and deviated far from what their parents expected them to be in the end of it all.
You look at Hopes and you see that Leopold and Waldemar have a very similar dynamic to their kids, but then you look at Caspar and Linhardt and think that they are very much their own pair in spite of that.
Linhardt is so very much unlike his father, not wanting his position at all despite being his heir. He has that similar disdain for fighting, but doesn't that drive for his work that his father has. Caspar was raised to be a good soldier and loves training and fighting like his father does, but unlike his father, was never in the running for inheriting his father's position, nor did he show any interest in it. Not to mention his love for fighting is something he was honestly raised to have.
Despite their similar upbringing, they both want to do their own thing and they respect each other for that. Their fathers have that sense of animosity towards each other, but Caspar and Linhardt are built from a mutual respect for each other. They treat each other much nicer than their fathers do. They became attached at the hip, as Caspar himself pointed out.
As a neat little aside, there's a headcanon that Linhardt was meant to meet and be (unwilling) friends with Caspar's older brother due to both of them being heirs, out of a sense of working together in their respective positions in the future, but Caspar happened to find him first instead and an unexpected friendship was born. They became inseparable, whether their fathers liked it or not.
And so that makes it all the more surprising for their fathers when they find out that the two of them have basically eloped together in their paired ending.

I’m alive hahaha
okay haven’t posted anything on this blog in… like… over a year? Ooops
let’s just say life has been mentally draining, a LOT of changes happened and I haven’t been able to write for a while. Or be active on tumblr at all 🥲
ANYWAY my goal for 2023 is to write a bit more fan fic, especially bc I took a creative writing course this semester and I started to get back into writing since it started!

So... Random thought here about Kassandra and Basim...
(Also, Valhalla/Odyssey spoilers. So, thoughts under the cut I guess...)
Kassandra takes the staff, carries it for like 2,400 years, dies to hand it over to Layla... Only for Layla to almost immediately disappear and for it to end up with Basim? 😐 Loki-Basim? One of the main antagonists of Valhalla? Now has the staff? And Kassandra spent 2,400 YEARS in solitude, living far longer than she ever wanted to, watching everyone she ever cared about die, to get it safely into Layla’s hands, only for that to happen. It feels like such a waste of her life. To be made to go through all that only for it to essentially have been pointless. Because I can’t imagine it’s a good thing Basim now has it. (Unless Mirage ends with Basim in modern day somehow shoving off Loki’s influence?) He may be a good guy in Mirage, but we know how he ends up with Valhalla. He’s not great, people.
And some folks are confused as to why I'm salty over Basim being the protagonist now? 🙃

So there is supposedly no TOTK DLC planned at this time and I'm... honestly very bummed about it. So many opportunities to fill in gaps in the story, give more detailed lore on the zonai and other barely explained elements, and to bring back beloved characters (like we ALL predicted Kass DLC?? Hello?? Wdym you just wrote him out of the game??). Like the game is HUGE and I can't say it needs DLC, given just how much we got. But I was desperately hoping at least some of the half assed world building could be salvaged by DLC.

Personally I think the ending of botw directly contradicts that whole stupid thing of "all the sheikah tech just disappeared in the middle of the night (and no one questioned it)", because even if that DID happen (if it's not in the game it's not canon, to me), what was up with Vah Ruta? Did it just shut down, then frantically start back up when it realized "oh shit, calamity's gone, I have to go fuck off into the sunset"? Like, it had to be operational to move to wherever it moved to, unless someone came along and teleported it all to who knows fucking where (which is like. Extraordinarily unlikely. There's like three people in Hyrule that could do that and none of them have a good reason to)

I wish that the ancient sages in TotK got actual names.
I want to know literally anything about these people, all we really know currently is that they were sages a really long time ago and that they're the ancestors of the current sages (I think? Listen I'm writing this late at night, and also I beat most of the main story while allergy medicine had turned my brain to soup so i might be remembering stuff wrong). We don't even know what their faces look like. (Excluding Mineru, Zelda & I guess Rauru, but obviously they're not who I'm really talking about here)
If/when we get some sort of story DLC for TotK, I hope we get even just a crumb of new information about them

You can't convince me that Caspar remaining under the influence of his father is the best thing for him.
Three Hopes is like a bad timeline for him in my eyes with how dirty they did him in making him unrecruitable in other routes.
Caspar is, in my honest opinion, at his best when he can become his own person. Whether that's by breaking away from the Empire, or staying but choosing his own way at the end, depending on who he ends up paired with (my casphardt bias is showing).
I'll forever be really disappointed in how little attention he gets because people completely miss the parts of him that make him such a good character.

Random things the dads are good at:
Talon: is very good with medicine and taking care of wounds. When you live in the middle of Hyrule, you just don’t have time to get help, you need to do things yourself if you wanna help someone.
Benji: he’s not a con man but he’s really good at scamming people (he scams people to get half fairies)
Rusl: great at sneaking. You gotta put a bell on him or else he will unintentionally jumpscare you. He’s also the best at taking care of himself 💀
Leon: knife throwing. My guy was dazed under Vaati’s control and he STILL was able to throw the knife RIGHT at Vaati’s head. He’s insane.
Linebeck: he surprisingly has a good singing voice. He doesn’t sing in front of people but he has sung a few lullabies to calm Windy down.
Ammon: well it’s no secret that he’s great at shield surfing. He also has an incredible balance.
Kass: really good at dancing. He usually dances while flying, mostly to impress his wife. But he’s good at it for a big guy.
