Spider-Man Rec

With Spider-Man: No Way Home just coming out, I decided to post a rec of my favorite Spider-Man fics. Now these are all the Tom Holland Spider-Man, so no Tobey and Andrew's Spider-Man. Although in one They both make an appearance. Anyway, enjoy!!

My Comments: So I've read a few of these types of Spider-Man fics, and I have to say that this one is my favorite. I really love how it shows the dynamics Peter has with all the superheroes. Not to mention plenty of IronDad and SpiderSon in it as well. I also love how it shows Peter’s grief from losing Aunt May. Too many of these fics just sort of sweep it under the rug, or only dedicate one chapter to it. I like this one, how it shows how slowly you actually recover from something like this. I highly recommend giving this one a read! This fic is cross-posted on ff.net, so I'll link that down below.

My Comments: The summary up above is actually from the fic’s TV Tropes rec, since the original summary was just writing taken directly from the fic itself, which some writers (myself included) do for their summaries. But it doesn’t really work well in a rec list. Anyway, this fic is an absolute gem. I love how they show Peter’s and Tony’s relationship. I mean we have Peter who comes from a time where he and Tony have a close relationship, and Tony who has just met the kid. I really like how Hwee showed the dynamic of it. Anyways the author is doing a rewrite of this fic, it’s only four chapters in but I will link it down below.

Field Trips and Lab Days

Ned knew, but didn’t say anything because he’s a traitor, and MJ knew, but didn’t say anything because she loves chaos, and look, the point is, Peter did not expect to glance up from the guts of one of Tony’s prototypes and come face to face with his entire class, staring at him through the glass.

My Comments: Yes, this is a field trip to Stark Tower fic. It’s a pretty nice short fic if you’re looking for a quick read. It doesn’t really have much of the “tour” part of Stark Industries, but more so of the class’s astonishment that Peter was telling the truth about the internship. You do need an AO3 account to read this fic.

My Comments: This is another field trip fic. And it is a Spider-Man reveal. This fic is pretty great, and I love the take they did on Peter being held hostage. I also love the relationship Peter has with the rest of the decathlon team. This is part of a series, so I’ll link that down below.

My Comments: So in this fic, Peter is Peggy and Steve’s child, who Tony adopts. Now this fic focuses more on Tony and Steve than it does Peter. But I still think it deserves a place on this rec. There is a companion fic that is just outtakes on the years in between the chapters.

My Comments: I absolutely love this fic! I love seeing the other interns' perspective of Peter, and the Roomba was also a delight. Seeing Peter through the other interns’ eyes and just how strange it would be if this high school kid had access to all the labs and things. You do need an AO3 account to read this fic.

My Comments: This is a delightful little AU that goes into how Peter goes from being the social pariah to Ned and MJ’s best friends. I love how it shows a different take on how Peter might be after getting his powers and how he slowly goes back to being a normal teenager.

My Comments: This fic sat in by tbr for years, and when I finally read it I couldn’t believe I waited this long. It’s over 500 thousand words and I just blew through it in a day. I can’t recommend this fic enough. It’s set during Civil War, which is what made me wait so long to read it, but I really like how it went over the events, and I liked how the beginning of this fic sort of set it up. Also all the Irondad and Spiderson was just to die for. I loved both Peter and Tony’s relationship, and I liked how it went over Tony and Peppers as well. I didn’t really like Steve in this fic, but I see why he was written that way, and I did think it worked for this fic. I highly recommend this fic!! My Comments: So I wrote the summary above myself, since the fic's actual summary was a scene taken directly from the fic itself. I really love this work though and I highly recommend reading it. I've read quite a few Spider-Verse/MCU crossover fics, and this is the best one I've found. Highly recommend it. Tempest also managed to work in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man, and the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man as well.

Spider-Man No Way Home Predictions!

(Potential spoiler warning, but these are just my predictions as a fan of the MCU)

✨the line✨

This is (most likely) Tom's last appearance as Peter Parker, meaning there's no way we won't hear "with great power comes great responsibility." I predict that we'll hear it come from Tobey to Tom, as Ben is already gone and I doubt they'd change the origins of something so iconic.

"Is this stuff coming out of you?"

As Andrew and Tom's Peter use web-shooters rather than have it come from their wrists, like Tobey's Peter, and would likely be confused at this difference. It'd be a nice little callback to Sam Wilson's comment during the first time we saw Tom's Peter in action way back in Civil War.

Avocados at Law

I want to see Charlie Cox return as Matt Murdoch sooooo bad but, unless Marvel hints at Daredevil in a trailer again (like they may have done with the protest signs and lawyer's arms) or reveals that he will be in the movie, I doubt that we will see him. I feel like we'll probably see him in an end credit scene or mentioned as an easter egg, but not in the film itself. If the lawyer isn't Matt, however, a fun twist is that Foggy could represent him instead! (Although I still doubt that we'll see either of them).

He saved her... This time.

Gwen Stacey's death in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was absolutely heartbreaking, and I'm sure we'll see MJ in a similar place of danger to raise the stakes. I feel we'll see Tom's Peter trying to save her and fail, but she won't die. Instead, it'll reveal that Andrew's Peter got there in time to save her, doing what he wasn't able to do for his love. Almost a sort of redemption but also a heartbreaking parallel and difference between their lives in each reality.

No really, No Way Home

This is a fairly obvious one, but it is most likely that it'll be the villains who have no way home, not Peter. He'll have to choose between sending them back, resulting in their deaths and possibly making him a "murderer" once more, or defeating them in this reality. He'll probably have to come to terms with eventually choosing the former at the end of the film.

Here'ssss Rhinoooo!

We've seen or been alluded to 5/6 members of the Sinister Six in the trailer already (Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, & Lizard), and I truly believe that the last villain we'll get is Rhino. I believe that he and Andrew's Peter will be transported through the multiverse at the ending scene from TASM2, and that's the moment they'll have come from as it was the last time we saw either of them.

It was a DiVeRsiON

This theory has definitely been circulating a lot on the internet, but I do believe it was Tom Holland's face edited onto Tobey Maguire's body. It's the same suit we saw him wear in Spider-Man 3, tying into the theory of them being pulled through existing moments we've seen before as mentioned above. Additionally, that's the only time we see Tom's face on a body wearing the Iron Spider suit, meaning that it very likely could be Tobey actually wearing it.

Lost Friend... AGAIN

I adore Ned, I adore Jacob Batalon, but in the first two series' Peter lost Harry and I feel like it's the emotional turmoil that they want for him to experience more character development. I don't want it, I DON'T WANT IT, but I think we will see him become Hobgoblin.

WandaVision

Since we see Stephen Strange in this movie, one of the end credit scenes will probably be teasing Multiverse of Madness!! Since Elizabeth Olsen will be in that film, we may see her or see another direct reference to the events of WandaVision to begin connecting the two characters. (We may even see the deleted footage of Stephen that Feige confirmed was removed from the project).

Evil Doctor, How Strange.

There are a few clips in the trailer that look like Stephen and Peter are fighting, so what may happen is that Peter will encounter a version of him which he has to fight. Who knows, it may be an interesting scene to see.

👏MILES👏FREAKING👏MORALES👏

They confirmed his existence in the MCU in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and I would love to at least have another mention of his existence in this movie as well! I'm sure they'll at least throw us some easter egg about him even though we probably won't see him.

Return of the (Dancing) King

This one is more of something personal that I want to see, but I want a callback to Tobey's Peter dancing in Spider-Man 3! I mean, c'mon.

^^ This was iconic. As long as somebody does this dance, I'm happy.

Here are the honorable mentions of things I want to see that I, unfortunately, really doubt we will:

Dane DeHaan: The best Harry Osborn but had just had another baby before filming so is likely not lying when denying the rumors.

Emma Stone: I mean, Gwen died... And she also just had a baby so we probably won't see her.

Peter Maximoff/Ralph Bohner: MARVEL NEEDS TO FIX THIS but I don't think they'll do it in Spider-Man.

[BURSTS IN WITH MY POST-NO WAY HOME TOBEY!PETER THEORY]

(spoilers, obviously)

So I saw people being like, how does it work for them to get sent back now, aren't they just going to die anyway, maybe it creates separate universes. But where's the fun/catharsis in that! SO HERE'S WHAT I'M THINKING.

Norman gets sent back, the Goblin is gone. He doesn't send the glider at Peter meaning he doesn't get stabbed. He lives! But he still did kill a lot of people, so he goes to jail or maybe gets the insanity defence and gets sent off to get help being at home in his mind again.

Either way, just like in canon, Harry now takes over Oscorp. But! Since his father didn't die, Harry doesn't have his whole vandetta against Spider-man/Peter. He still hires Otto to do his experiments for Oscorp, still trying to make his farther proud. So that all goes down the same (Rip Rosie ☹️).

If you don't remember, originally what happens at the end of Spider-man 2 is that Otto has his fusion reactor going, but it's going to overload again but worse and destroy the city. Peter is begging him to do the right thing and shut it down. Ock grabs Peter by the throat... and that's the last thing he remembers in No Way Home. He's eventually able to break through the hold the tentacles have on his mind and get control of them, and he tells Peter to get out and he'll bring the building down on the reactor to drown it in the river, knowing he won't have time to get out himself. His last words are "I will not die a monster."

SO. No Way Home happens, he's back in control and gets sent back to that same moment. WITH THIS CRUCIAL EXTRA TIME AND BRAINSPACE where he's not fighting to be in control again, he tells Peter to go, and manages to drown the reactor without dying himself. Maybe Peter gets him out, maybe he just plans it better since he's not trying to redeem himself so much. IDK BUT HE GETS OUT FINE. Hooray!

Now we're on to Spider-man 3. Harry, unvengeful flavor, finds has found his father's Green Goblin stuff. Maybe they found it back when his dad got arrested and he hid it, maybe he stumbles onto it now. But he wants to talk to Spider-man about what really happened with his dad, since a lot is still unclear. He doesn't know it was Peter before, but they bond and he starts to suspect.

He doesn't straight up take the Goblin formula as-is, but uses Oscorp resources to keep working on it so it doesn't turn him insane. Or maybe he just uses the Goblin accessories and builds some good armor and doesn't become a superhuman. Either way! At the end when MJ gets kidnapped again, either Spidey knows what he's been doing and shows up to ask him for help and Harry has already been suiting up like, "Of course, Pete" (casually revealing he knows the truth), OR Peter and Harry were hanging out moping about MJ or something when they see the news, and Peter's like "I HAVE TO GO FOR MYSTERIOUS REASONS", but Harry is like "Peter, I know you're Spider-man, and I can help," and reveals the suit then.

So off they go together to fight Venom-Eddie and Sandman, and with Harry having been there for the whole fight it goes a little easier this time. Harry does *not* die, and isn't messed up by vengeance or goblin serum. So Harry gets fixed too, and doesn't even need to be in No Way Home.

Tobey!Peter goes back to a world in which Norman, Otto, and Harry all lived.

I’m so glad I’m not the only Doc Ock fangirl in the world, I LOVE HIM. He’s my favorite out of all the OG Spider-Man villains.

I’d like to thank you for introducing me to more Eglund (sp?) characters and while I know absolutely nothing about Mr. Spenser, what is his favorite thing to eat? I’m so sorry if you already answered this I have so many gifs to read and not enough time but he looks really cute! Does he have friends or a puppy?

Omg are you kidding?! Doc Ock is such a fantastic villain, so thanks to him and the Green Goblin, they made the Tobey series so enjoyable! I think that's what was missing for Andrew's series, the villains (in my personal opinion) were rather lackluster and they could have been executed more effectively, but neither had the same feeling once Doc or Goblin was on screen.

Alfred Molina is a fucking gift.

And it's a pleasure to introduce everyone to more Englund characters! This man puts his whole soul into these roles and even though the movie may be bad, his roles are always super enjoyable and the characters are fun. So I like to write for my favorites and get others introduced to them!

His favorite thing to eat is usually any meat. He's a meat eating man, a hunter, so he's used to hunting and preparing his food sometimes if he travels up north, but he also really loves a good pasta dish, too.

As for sweets, he really enjoys baked goods like pies or freshly baked cookies. He's a sucker for them fresh from the oven and warm with a glass of milk. ♡

As for friends, he really hasn't made any that have stuck, nor does he really try to openly make them since it's hard for him to really let down his guard long enough to make the room for growth. And God, he wishes he had a dog but he feels he's not really prepared for that responsibility. He made friends with a neighbors dog before but they moved and he hasn't seen them since, but he'll also make friends with the other neighborhood dogs, or at least try. He likes big dogs, they're huge and he just loves to play with them, have something large to hug, he's afraid of smaller dogs only because he doesn't want to accidentally hurt them.
