After the show
Pairing: alive!Reggie Peters x reader
WC: 3.2k
Summary: After being away for a few months you were finally back in Los Angeles, just in time to watch your best friend Julie perform with her band. The first time you got to see them live and get to meet them, including the cute bass player.
A/N: Here's something new which probably nobody still counted on getting from me hahah but writing has always helped me cope with some stuff and even though I hadn't pictured myself returning to this, here I am, dealing with life problems by escaping into fanfictions. So, I hope you guys still read it and like it!!
Tumblr media
It had been a while since you saw Julie last. You had lived with your dad last semester while your mom had to go abroad for work. That left you at the other side of the country, a six-hour flight away from your best friend and your normal life.
Of course, staying at your dad's wasn't the worst. You got along great. One of the only plus sides of that move was that you could spend more time together, but you also had to get used to a new place and new people. And you missed your friends dearly. Daily Facetime calls to Julie and Flynn kept you going, but those declined in frequency as well. Everybody got busy, so these past few weeks it had been, at most, one call a week. With your upcoming move back home to California, Julie's successful debut with her band and Flynn managing them, there hadn't been a lot of time. Until now.
You were finally back in California, basking in the Los Angeles sun. The hot sand beneath your feet warmed your soul. A content smile graced your face while you were waiting for Julie and Flynn to join you. This felt like home. Definitely.
Your serene moment got interrupted as someone practically fell into you, making you tumble forward a few steps. You were able to keep standing with arms still wrapped around you. With them came a squeak and the call of your name before the figure, which turned out to be Julie, came around to your front. As soon as you saw that familiar face you pulled her into your arms again. Yep, home. "Oh my God, I missed you so much!", you said, squeezing her once more.
"Same! I can't believe you're back! Finally!" The two of you let go of each other and settled onto the sand. "Tell me everything!"
"Well, you already know basically everything," you laughed. "I mean, the last time we talked wasn't even 24 hours ago."
"I know!" Julie took ahold of your shoulders and shook you. "Way too long! I need a play-by-play of your flight."
"Uhm ok, so, when I got to the airport..." And so you told Julie everything that happened at the airport, on your flight, at the reunion with your mom, the ride home, just everything up until the point where she had joined you at the beach. "When is Flynn coming by the way? Shouldn't she be here already?" You looked around hoping to catch a glimpse of the girl amidst the other beach-goers.
"Oh yes, I forgot to say! She actually had to hang back for a bit. She was able to get us a gig tonight, totally last minute, so she had to organize some stuff, but you'll see her later when you come to the show."
"Oh, so I'm invited, huh?" You bumped her shoulder.
"Of course, you are! We made sure to have you put on the guestlist. Then you can also meet the rest of the band! They're so excited to meet you. I mean, Flynn and I always talk about you, so they're always on us about when they actually get to meet you." She laughed at the dorkiness of her friends.
She could still picture the first time you were brought up in conversation in front of them. Flynn had been late to watching the practice and when she finally did come in, she looked a little distraught. Julie had asked her what was wrong, but didn't expect that the reason for her distress was actually your distress. You had just broken up with your partner who was not ready to commit to long-distance, even just for a while, so you had called your friends in tears. The boys had immediately told Julie and Flynn to not worry about practice and call you back and be there for you. Since then, you had been topic of conversation a few times.
"Actually," she continued, "Reggie could not shut up about you being at the show today since we found out it's happening, so you can't disappoint my bassist by not showing up." Julie wiggled her eyebrows at you. That's what you get for one time mentioning that you thought the dark-haired bassist was cute and asking about him. You had kept up with Julie's band, watched all their music videos and the private photos and videos that Julie had sent you.
You felt a warmth spread over your neck and cheeks, slighty embarassed by the teasing. "Oh please, Julie, shut up." You chuckled and looked out at the waves crashing onto the beach. "Of course, I'll be there. I'm super excited to meet the band, too. And to see you perform live!" Looking back at her, you saw the spark in her eyes that had been lost for so long after her mother's death, but there it was, portraying her excitement for making and sharing her music.
The moment got interrupted by an alarm sound coming out of Julie's pocket. "Oh ok, that's me. I actually have to run now," she said while standing up and silencing her phone. "I need to prepare for the show, but I'll text you all the details and will see you there tonight! Ok, bye, love you!" She shouted over her shoulder while already walking away in a hurry. You laughed to yourself at her behavior. It hadn't changed in all this time. You stayed at the beach for a few more minutes, before deciding to go home and get ready yourself.
You looked in awe at the line in front of the club the band was playing at tonight. So many people were here to see your friend perform. It was crazy. And you actually got to walk past all these people to tell the bouncer your name and be let in before all of them. The whole experience was so surreal, but it was everything you had ever hoped for your friend. Inside was already pretty packed as well but Flynn had texted you where to find her, so you made your way through the crowd to the roped-off area at the side which was slightly elevated. You once again gave your name to the woman standing there. She scanned her clipboard before she moved aside to let you in.
You spotted Flynn pretty easily in her eye-catching outfit. She was sitting in the far corner, closest to the stage, typing away on her phone. You walked up to her and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey there, stranger!"
She turned around quickly. Her eyes widened when she saw you standing there before she jumped out of her seat with a wide smile on her face. "You're here!" She pulled you into a hug. "It's so good to see you! Wait, let me look at you!" You were pushed an arms-length away, so that she could check you out from head to toe. "And you look amazing! Perfect! Show-stopping!"
"Well, I hope not. I did come here to watch the show after all." You took the seat next to Flynn's, catching up with her until the lights dimmed and the show started. You and Flynn immediately got up from your seats as the stage lights came on and illuminated your friend and the rest of the band. Julie's gaze quickly flickered up to where you and Flynn were standing before she started playing the first notes of the song. Actual tears sprung to your eyes as you watched your friend live her dream. You were so proud of her.
You watched her interact with the other band members while performing. They all seemed to have so much fun on stage and you could clearly see their passion for music shining through. More than once did your eyes glance over to the bassist. You had to admit that Reggie looked even better in person than on the screen. He had to know what he was doing when he put on that leather jacket for the performance. Damn.
When the show ended, you actually felt out of breath from all the dancing and jumping and singing along you did with Flynn. The whole concert was so much fun and you could not get rid of the smile on your lips. "So, I am in charge of getting you to Julie's for the after-show party," Flynn turned to you and explained.
"Wait, there's an actual after show party at Julie's? And her dad's fine with it?"
"Yeah, it's just a few people and as long as we clean up and don't make too much noise, he's chill. So, you coming?" Flynn held out a hand for you to take and then skillfully maneuvered you through the crowd. The ride to Julie's turned out to be Flynn's mom who greeted you with a hug. You three chatted for the whole ride, mainly about your last semester and the show, before she dropped you off at Julie's. Before driving off she reminded Flynn to be respectful and considerate of the people living in the house to which Flynn rolled her eyes, but promised to be on her best behavior.
After her mom was gone, she turned to you. "Ok, come on, we need to get some snacks and drinks out before the others arrive." She led you to the garage, which you hadn't entered in what felt like years, and pulled the doors wide open. The lights turned on and as you looked around you realized that not much had changed, except for some trinkets being strewn about here and there. You quickly helped Flynn get some drinks out of the mini fridge and onto the table as well as some snacks when the first few people already started arriving. You easily recognized Nick, one of the first to enter the garage. He hadn't changed much from when you last saw him, still had the same Golden Retriever look to him. Carrie was also easy to spot. She spotted the two of you instantly and came over to greet you. From your calls with Julie and Flynn you were already aware that the feud had ended and there was some kind of friendship blossoming now.
"Hi, girls!" She greeted both of you with a hug before she turned to you. "It's nice to see you! How long have you been back?"
"Oh, just today actually. Been quite a busy day." You made some more small talk with her while other guests arrived and Flynn went off to greet them. It wasn't long until the conersations stopped to greet the arriving band with a round of hollers and applause. The guitarist, Luke, you knew, basked in the applause, entering the garage with raised arms and a grin, ready to high-five his friends that were waiting for him. Julie, Reggie and Alex followed. They had the same grin on their faces, the performance high, but passed up on the high-fives.
Carrie excused herself, but you didn't stay standing alone for long as Julie spotted you and pulled Alex and Reggie over to you. "Guys, I want you to meet someone," she exclaimed and proudly introduced you.
Aley was the first to speak up. He had a nice smile on his face. "Hi! It's really nice to meet you! I'm Alex. Julie has told us so much about you, it's like meeting a legend." Julie hit him in the arm for that comment. "Hey! What? It's true! You're always talking about her like she's a celebrity or some kind of myth. No wonder Reggie-" He got cut off by another hit in the arm, this time from the bassist. "Alright, fine, I'll stop stalking! Anyway, nice to meet you. I'm gonna go over there to my boyfriend." He turned and walked right into the arms of a long-haired guy on the other side of the garage who had been engaged in a conversation with Luke.
You turned back to the other two still standing with you, holding back a laugh. Your gaze fell onto the one who had yet to introduce himself. His eyes were still trained on Alex' back, but as he turned towards you, he realized that your focus was already on him and his cheeks turned red. It only took him a moment to regain his cool though. "I'm Reggie. Nice to meet you!" His eyes trailed your body once over. He shot you a smile. "I can't believe you're even prettier in real life than in the pictures." That earned him another smack against the arm from Julie. He yelped. "Hey! That's not how you treat your bassist!"
"Whatever, go get Luke, I want to introduce him, too!" Rubbing his arm he left, pouting, to get the guitarist. As soon as Reggie said a few words to him, he came jumping right over and put his arms around Julie's shoulder, placing a kiss on her cheek. She chuckled a little at the display of affection. "Luke, I wanna introduce you to-"
He cut her off, saying your name himself. "You talk so much about her. How could I not know?!" He smiled brightly and pulled you into a hug. "Great to finally meet you! How did you like the show?"
"Ah, it was amazing! You all looked so great out there! I had so much fun and everything sounded great! You even played my favorite song," you admitted.
"Oh, and which one is that?" You told him your favorite song, him nodding along to your answer. "Yeah, great taste you got there!" He looked around the room as a group of guys called his name. "Alright, I gotta go entertain for a bit, but we'll definitely catch up soon!" He promised with a wink and another kiss to Julie's cheek.
"Is he always like that?" You asked her.
"Most of the time." She nodded before breaking out into a laugh which you joined.
At some later point in the evening you found yourself on the couch with a drink in your hand. Reggie let himself fall into the seat next to you. "Hi there!" You smiled at him.
"Hi!" The small smile he gave you made him look even cuter. "Sitting here all by yourself?"
"Well, I was just waiting for you to come keep me company."
"Oh." That took him by suprise. "Here I am!"
You tilted your head to the side a bit, taking him in some more. He was still wearing the leather jacket you liked so much during the show with a simple white shirt below it and a pair of jeans. "I really liked to watch you play. I wanted to tell you that before, but you left so quickly."
"Ah, thank you! Yeah." He rubbed his neck as his cheeks turned pink. "Sorry that I left so quickly. I actually did want to talk to you some more! Julie told us you were coming to watch us play, so I- we put some extra effort into making this show amazing!"
"You certainly did! How long have you been playing bass for?"
"So long I can barely remember. I learned the guitar first though," he admitted.
"So you play the guitar as well, wow! I've never had any musical ability. Julie's mom tried to teach me to play the piano a long time ago, but it was completely hopeless." You chuckled at the memory. It was right in this room so many years ago.
"Maybe the piano just wasn't the right instrument for you? I can teach you some guitar if you want. Or bass, if you prefer."
"Alright, I'll hold you to it, but really don't get your hopes up. It might end in an absolute disaster," you joked. "Let me actually give you my number, so we can set a date."
"Oh yeah, totally!" He pulled out his phone and opened it to a new contact. You put your number in and called yourself right after saving it.
"Now I have your number as well." You smiled at him before saving the number into your phone as 'that cute bassist'. You hoped he had seen the name but when you looked back at him his eyes were trained on your face.
An hour moved by as you kept sitting on that couch, talking and laughing with Reggie. Luke, Alex and Julie had each come over for a few minutes but left fairly quickly to give the two of you some space.
"Hey, do you want to get some fresh air? It's getting a bit stuffy in here," you suggested to which Reggie agreed. The doors had been closed by now to keep the noise from reaching the neighbors, so that you hadn't noticed it'd gotten a bit chilly. Before you could say or do anything Reggie already took off his jacket and laid it over your shoulders. You pulled it on tighter as you took a seat on the stairs, the smell of the leather enveloping you. It smelled good, you imagined Reggie to smell distinctly of the jacket as well.
"Can I ask you a question?" He asked warily.
"Of course." You assured him, placing a hand on his thigh.
His eyes fell from your face to your hand. "Are you flirting with me? Like, are you actually hitting on me?" His hopeful eyes found yours again as your smile turned wider.
"Yes, Reggie, I have been all evening."
"Oh, ok, good, so I didn't misinterpret anything." He laughed a little and placed his hand over yours that was still lying on his thigh. "You see, I think you're really pretty. I've thought that since Julie and Flynn showed us pictures of you for the first time. And now I know, you're really funny, too, and I'm just totally blown away by you, so I was wondering if you wanted to go out with me?"
"I would like that a lot, yes. You lnow, I've had this little crush on you for a while now that Julie and Flynn have been making fun of me for. There's something about you that really draws me in." You bit your lip, taking Reggie's attention from your eyes to your lips.
"So, uhm, can I kiss you right now?" He asked.
Your lips spread into a wider smile as you shuffled closer to him on the stairs. "Yes, Reggie, I'd love that." There wasn't much of a gap between your faces anymore now, but he took his sweet time letting you feel his breath on your lips before finally connecting them. His lips moved softly against yours. He squeezed your hand on his thigh and brought the other one up to cradle your face.
You pulled back a little to catch your breath. When there was a crash from inside the garage your gaze quickly flicked to the door to check if anyone was coming out. When nobody did, you turned back to Reggie. "Do you wanna go back inside or keep doing this?" You asked him, hoping for the latter.
"I think, I'd rather stay out here a bit longer." He smiled before catching your lips in another kiss under the starlit sky.

59. Do you need a hug? You just seem very upset over the shape of these potatoes.
I was telling my family about this the other day! It's so funny!
The driver didn't comment when Carrie all but threw her bag into the car before getting in. He didn't have to. Her mood said it all. She'd managed to keep a smile on her face as she saw the other girls off, their parents picking them up, or carpooling in Heather and Kayla's case because Heather's mom's car was in the garage.
The driver also didn't comment when she told him to take her to the diner, instead of straight home. Even though her dad always told him to take her straight home.
Well, it's not like her dad showed up, so he didn't get a say. He probably wasn't even home to scold her about being home late. And Julian knew that Carrie would buy him whatever he wanted from Starbucks Monday morning if he complied.
So off to the diner they went.
It wasn't fair, they worked so hard on their routine, and then all of a sudden stupid Double Trouble had to show up and blow everyone out of the water, and Andi Parker from Destiny Management had given her the brush off, and it wasn't fair. Julie hadn't sang a note in a year and then all of a sudden Flynn moved back to LA and she was fine again? Carrie hadn't been enough for her, but Double Trouble came out of nowhere and stole her spotlight at the spirit rally and now Eats and Beats and Julie's dad had been there when Carrie's dad hadn't even read the text message reminding him of her performance tonight.
All she wanted was a chocolate milkshake and some curly fries. Sure, she should probably order strawberry, since she was still in her Pink Candi wig, and what if someone took a picture of her? But she needed chocolate, and curly fries, and she needed them now.
"What do you mean there aren't any curly fries left?" she all but shouted at the stupid guy behind the counter with the flicky hair.
"We only have crinkle cut left," the guy shrugged. He wasn't even wearing the uniform correctly, with his stupid biceps and his lack of sleeves. Curly's diner always had long sleeved shirts with pretty shiny red buttons at the cuffs and the collar. They had ever since her dad took her here as a kid.
"This is Curly's Diner. It's known for its curly fries!" She resisted the urge to stomp her foot, but it was a close call.
"Do you need a hug?" The guy behind the counter asked, and Carrie knew he was being sarcastic, she invented the fake-sweet insult. But the question made her lip wobble all the same. Because yes, maybe she could. "You just seem very upset over the shape of these potatoes."
"Shut up and get me my damn milkshake," she choked out, except as she did, the tears she was holding back started to spill from her eyes.
"Oh no," the guy behind the counter said. "Oh no, don't cry. I'm sorry about the fries. I can try and put them in a circle or something, please don't cry."
"Fuck," Carrie said, dabbing angrily at her tears, trying to keep her mascara from running. "Never mind, I can't - I can't be seen like this." She threw twenty bucks at him, because someone had probably started on the milkshake already, and went to leave, when she noticed some girls near the exit whispering and pointing. One of them took out her phone.
Diner Guy seemed to notice too, because he ducked under the counter and grabbed her arm leading her into the back.
"What the hell Patterson?" a blonde guy with the manager's badge said.
"Come on, Alex, she's crying," Diner Guy said, and he threw some epic puppy eyes. "You know I panic when girls cry! Reggie! We need that chocolate milkshake stat!"
"I'm not crying," Carrie sniffled. A milkshake was pressed into her hand, with the signature curly straw and not one but two cherries on top.
"You looked like you could use a second one," the guy, Reggie, said, giving her a wink. She sullenly grabbed one of the bright red maraschino cherries and chewed it. They were her favourite, even though they were so bad for you. "Whatever happened, he's not worth it."
"I'm not crying over a guy," Carrie glared, even though maybe part of her was. It was just not a boyfriend kind of guy. "Not that I'm crying."
"Of course not," Patterson soothed. "But if you wanna talk about it, we can listen. And make you some fries. Even if they're not curly."
She sniffled, ready to tell him to buzz off, but somehow, the whole story spilled out. About her best friend who pushed her away even though she was hurting too. About how she tried to form her own group, but the other girls just treated it like a hobby, something they did on the side, when music and proving herself was all Carrie could think about. About how she wasn't sure her dad would even care if she made it big or not.
"I get it," Patterson said. She glared at him. As if some diner dude would understand the pressures of the music industry. "My parents never supported our band either. And getting your name out there is hard, let alone being noticed!"
"You're in a band?" she asked.
"Sunset Curve," came a shout from across the kitchen where the other guy was flipping burgers. "Tell your friends!"
Their conversation turned to music after that. Luke showed Carrie a recording of their last performance, which was good. Very 90s rock, but not in a bad way. She was a bit hesitant to show her own recording, but Patterson just gasped and called: "Yo Alex you gotta see this!"
The manager popped his head back into the kitchen. "I would but SOMEONE left the counter unattended," he scolded.
"Yeah, yeah," Patterson got up, moving back to the front so Alex could come to the back. He was super interested in her dance moves, and they had a great talk about choreography and dance. By the end of her milkshake, she was laughing at his story about the three of them trying to perfect the Dirty Dance lift.
Eventually, Luke popped back in to tell her the coast was clear and 'some dude in a tie is very worried we kidnapped you and are holding you hostage in the walk in freezer.' She checked her make-up in a stainless steel baking sheet Reggie helpfully held up for her, and then walked back out with her head held high.
"Keep the change," she said.
Maybe she should come to the diner more often. You know, just to see if they had curly fries.

Can I get 500 words for the wip that’s giving you the most trouble. Please and thank you.
thank goodness i put that 1k limit up... (thank you) this is unedited. unproofread. but written. near future of kinder devil. i hope. i now have a bunch of half scenes that i need to actually put together into a chapter...
Julie runs into the studio, Flynn hot on her tail.
“Guys! GUYS!” she calls breathlessly when they don’t immediately greet her.
“Hey Jules! Where’s the fire?” Reggie asks, looking up from where he’d been plucking on his bass.
She desperately waves at them, wordlessly encouraging them to gather by her.
It doesn’t take long for the trio to take the hint. Luke stands in front of her, stooping down to look her in the eyes, mild concern taking over his face. “What’s going on, boss?”
Julie takes a deep breath to recenter herself before explaining. “You remember that lady at Eats and Beats? Who wanted to talk to us before I got caught?”
The guys nod.
“Okay, well. She just called.”
“What?!” Luke exclaims before unleashing a litany of excited questions Julie’s way.
“Luke,” Alex says gently, putting his hand on Luke’s shoulder.
Julie watches in amusement as Luke continues his spiral, completely unaware of Alex’s presence.
“Luke!” Alex tries again, much louder this time and with a shake of Luke’s shoulders.
Luke slowly comes back down from his excited rambling and stares at Julie. “What did she want?” he asks, much more coolly than he’d been capable of for the last several minutes.
Julie laughs. “She wanted to talk about representing us. She obviously loved our ‘gimmick’ but also our sound. She’d been hoping to get in touch with us after the Eats and Beats fiasco but, well, it’s not as easy as looking someone up in the phonebook any more.”
“Well, she could have messaged any of the band pages,” Flynn counters. “Social media exists for a reason.”
Julie directs a soft glare her friend’s way. “Yeah, well. That’s obviously not how Andi does things,” she turns her attention back to the guys who are watching her expectantly, “anyway. She came across some stuff about our performance at the Orpheum and then our Youtube channel, did some digging, found the landline info that thank goodness Dad keeps installed for some reason…” She trails off, waving her hand around, “None of that matters. Destiny Management wants us. Andi wants us. But we need an adult because we’re… I’m still a teenager. So I need to talk to Papi.”
“Well what are you waiting for?! Let’s go talk to Ray!” Luke cries, grabbing Julie’s hand and pulling her toward the door.
“Luke!” Julie cries, pulling her hand out of his grasp.
He stops short and turns to look at her, a betrayed expression on his face.
“He doesn’t know about you, remember? How can I ask him to let us do this if he doesn’t have all the information?”
“Can’t we just… pretend that it’s just you?” Reggie asks.
Julei stares at him.
“A band of four people, three of whom presumably exist somewhere else in the world, need all four members to be involved in any dealings, Reg.” Alex explains.
“Right. I knew that.”
“How do we navigate this kind of thing if three of us barely even count as people?” Alex wonders.
Julie shrugs, “I guess that’s what we have to figure out.”
Flynn pokes at Julie’s shoulder, silently asking for Julie to fill her in on the conversation that she’d been left out of. Julie obliges, ending by posing the same question Flynn’s way.
“Well, how attached are you to doing things the ‘traditional’ way?” Flynn asks.
Just as Luke’s about to answer, Flynn puts her hand up. “Arrange yourselves so I can hear you please. We’re not playing telephone for this.”

For the ship kiss ask: Willex - 19
Thank you for your prompt, I'm sorry for taking so long, my week was pretty busy. Here is my take on the prompt, I hope you enjoy reading it:
A few months after their fateful Orpheum performance Julie and the Phantoms had scheduled their first actual paid gig. They were the main event, not opening for another band and it wasn't and open mic. They had actually been hired, not as a last minute desperate replacement, but deliberately. There were flyers and posters. It had been announced on the club's website and social media and of course Flynn had posted about it on their own social media multiple times as well. Not that Alex really understood all of that, he mostly didn't care and just nodded along enthusiastically whenever Flynn and Julie got excited about how many likes they got or who shared their posts in a story or something.
It didn't matter, this was their first real gig as Julie and the Phantoms, it was starting in ten minutes and Alex was a mess. There hadn't been time for stage fright before their Orpheum performance with all the zapping and the being captured by Caleb and it felt like he was getting double the dose this time. Also, this time it wasn’t live or death, so to speak. Oddly, that made him even more nervous.
Alex was pacing up and down the alley behind the club, unable to go back inside and wait in the green room with Julie, Luke and Reggie. He checked his watch anxiously, he would have to go in soon, if he wanted to go on stage with the others and not be pulled in by Julie's… whatever it was that made them appear when she sang.
Maybe one mare round of pacing would calm him down. Or practicing the trick where he twirled his drumsticks in the air and caught them just in time for his solo. — Of course he dropped them and just as he was bending down to pick them up, he heard the distinct woosh of a ghost appearing.
"Sorry, I'll be right in, give me just another min…" he mumbled, expecting it to be Luke or Reggie, but when he looked up, it was Willie. "Oh, it's you. I didn't know you would come."
Willie grinned at him in the calming way he did. "Of course I came. You invited me, didn't you. And I haven't gotten the chance to hear you play yet."
Alex nervously pushed his hair back behind his ear. "Thank you, but maybe don't expect too much from me this time. I haven't been this nervous before a gig since the early 90s. Do you think it's possible of a ghost to get injured by their should bounded object? Because with my luck I'll manage to poke myself in the eye with a drumstick when attempting to throw them."
He was rambling, he knew that, but at least he wasn’t pacing.
Willie softly put his hand on his shoulder.
“You’ll be great. You guys are amazing and bursting with talent.”
“You haven’t heard us play yet.”
“You rocked the Orpheum, obviously your guys are good. And Caleb is a terrible person, but he knows his music and would never let anyone play at his club who wasn’t good.”
Alex couldn’t help but laugh at that.
“Interesting point you make there.”
He took a deep breath and focused on Willie’s hand on his shoulder.
“Ok, I think I’m ready to go in. Thanks Willie.”
Willie smiled widely. “Anytime Hotdog. And just in case…,” he leaned forward to press a kiss to Alex lips.
“For luck,” he explained before poofing out and leaving Alex speechless and thoroughly distracted from his stage fright.
You can find it on AO3.

trevor has literal platinum records but the thing julie decides to point out is that one of his songs was in a car advert shdjdjfjf
nooo they took out flynn shouting demon at carrie
julie mentions flynn and how amazing she is at nearly every given opportunity
"flynn and i were always straight with each other" this is meant to a dramatic moment but i'm laughing at this ahdjdnem
julie is a writer!! not just of lyrics/poems, she writes other stuff too!!
she describes the garage as being full of ghosts when referring to memories of her mum... i'm living for all the dramatic irony
ahh julie and ray are speaking in spanish to each other so much more than they did the show
the teacup and spoon rose had been using before she died were still there 🥺
julie says that she felt like her mum was telling her to play the cd ahhh
the first thing she says about the guys is that they're cute JULIE AHDJFK
wavy hair reggie yesss
julie says oh my god instead of oh my gosh
julie doesn't know luke's name so she's calling him floppy acdjfjrks
her reasoning for letting the guys stay in the garage was because she thought it was what rose would've done 🥺🥺
ALEX'S POV HELL YEAH
they took out reggie losing his shirt this is so sad 😔
[alex about julie playing wake up] "i couldn't remember the last time I felt so moved by music that wasn't actually my own."
okay i get why they changed povs but i kind of wish we'd gotten julie's pov while she played wake up
the first episode took up about 1/5 of the book jesus-
they skipped the bit about the only thing scarier than one girl crying being two girls crying 😔
flynn: "instagram" alex: "what-stagram?"
flynn hugs julie after she tells her about playing music again awwww
noo they cut out the scene where ray comes in to the studio ffs stop cutting scenes please
alex: "it tingles in weird places" alex, literally one line later: "well, it did."
according to alex the other describe him as "warm and fuzzy"
also so far everyone's pov has called luke out for being too cheesy
reggie: "i'm gonna guess death breath"
alex is now describing luke as the puppy reggie never had
alex calling luke and reggie his family 🥺😭
when julie went into her room and found the guys messing around she was on her way to text flynn 🥺 this book just makes me love their friendship so much more
reggie is described as having "a mop of hair" god i wish 😔
dahlia symbolism count: 3. so far it's been a vase next to rose, the curtains in the studio, and the flowers in julie's picture of her
luke: "our instruments are attached to our souls." reggie: "and sometimes our belts."
okay so the book confirms that julie found therapy helpful but she just didn't want to go back because she thought others would see her as fragile, which imo is a lot better than in the show when she just seemed like she hated it
they merged alex asking if julie got back into music with luke showing her bright which i get because if they kept everything in the book would be pretty long but... idk i kinda liked how it was just julie and luke when he showed her bright
julie describes the wow performance as being like a superbowl half-time show
list of celebs who've been name-dropped so far: weezer, the smashing pumpkins, katy perry, and harry styles
julie wanted to kiss kayla?!? wlw julie confirmed
YES TIME FOR REGGIE'S POV
reggie's internal dialogue is using way more words than necessary and as an autistic person I relate to that so i'm gonna use this as proof reggie is autistic 😙✌
reggie says how little julie's smiled since they met and is now describing her smile in detail 🥺🥺
me, seeing that reggie's pov is already over: :(
me seeing that it's alex's pov and he's about to meet willie: :D
avxhfjfldnd alex was so mesmerised by how beautiful willie was he forgot to speak 😭😭
damn they took out willie asking alex if he's into guys if he wanted a picture with fake marilyn monroe (they changed it to spider-man)
y'all willie gave alex a hip bump I'm dying over here
"wait, how can i see you again?" god this is killing me i love them 😭🥺
"even if you don't have questions" willie is hardcore flirting and i respect that
"i liked the sound of that" god it's been a few minutes and alex is already whipped agshdndm
dahlia reference number 4 (this time it's a mug)
instead of calling julie "insanely talented" luke calls her "annoyingly talented"
julie canonically uses the word "bonkers" and idk why i love that so much
ahhh i'm already halfway through the book and it's still episode 3
FLYNN'S POV OH MY GOD YES YES YES
i'll look at the pictures first though
okay now onto flynn's pov
maybe this is just me, but why does everyone say "mother" instead of "mom" all the time? it seems weirdly formal but whatever
flynn calls flying solo "our song" (meaning her and julie's) 🥺
svdbfjff whenever alex went to meet willie he just said he was going for a walk
wait, walks? plural?! alex and willie had more interactions and we didn't get to see them?! livid 😤
willie wanted to show alex the museum because it was one of his favourite places... god I'm soft
"i would've followed willie just about anywhere" stoppp this is too much for me 😭🤧
"together. i liked the sound of that." awwefdhehrhe
alex's catchphrase seems to be "I liked the sound of that" rather than "okay"
"so close that I could feel his breath" why did I think they were gonna kiss 💀💀
willie: "feels good, right?" alex: "yeah, it does." alex, in his head: "i was talking about the screaming, but i was talking about being here, now, with willie, too." oh god oh fuck-
"wagging an eyebrow" girl why is that worded so weird 😭💀
nah there's no way luke doesn't know what a sample is
yess we're back to luke's pov 😎
the book confirms that it was luke who wrote "hi bobby" on the mirror but i still refuse to believe it because of the one tumblr post i saw comparing all the boys handwriting and saying it was reggie (also the writing it too neat to be luke's 😌)
they cut the entire julie-sneaks-around-while-flynn-distracts-carrie bit 😔 (and also the guys mooning trevor)
"and the truth was, [julie] was becoming important to me. i hated to let her down." awwww 🥺🥺
sbdjfkfl reggie called the hgc creepy and alex got defensive because it "was willie's place"
when luke said they were "overdressed" they all tucked their shirts in
ffs not the eyebrow wagging again (this time from flynn)
so julie considers carrie as her frenemy and not an actual enemy... inch resting...
"the awkward "joke" just sat in the air like dead fish" abdhfjf what are these metaphors
HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT WILLIE'S POV?!?! I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT HOLY FUCK AHHHHH
awww when alex asked about the lifers being "sworn to secrecy" willie wanted to telm him about caleb owning everyone at the hgc's souls but he couldn't 🥺🥺 if I catch anyone posting willie slander it's on sight 🥊😠🥊
OKAY WHAT I'M LIVID - they reduced the whole "do this forever"/"there's a lot to like here" thing to just the dialogue. literally no mentions of the lingering glances or luke's "you got a crush on willie". fucking disgraceful. i hate it here.
THERE - WE LITERALLY HAVE PROOF THAT WILLIE DIDN'T KNOW CALEB WANTED THE GUYS TO JOIN HE HGC WILLIE ANTIS CAN GO HOME NOW
willie watched the guys getting stamped and said it felt like his stomach was filling with lead SEE I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY WILLIE SLANDER IN THIS HOUSE
willie noticed alex looking into the crowd before leaving and wondered if he was looking for him... do tell me willie who else could he possibly be looking for
"alex said, looking stressed (then again, when did alex look not stressed?)" avshdnfmfr
julie describes nick's voice as "soft" and "graveled"
apparently julie has had a crush on nick since kindergarten, and in kindergarten nick cried because he couldn't get the lid off of his glue stick
luke says that knowing he let julie down at the dance hurt more than caleb's jolts 🥺🥺
the boys' little "sorry" song has it's lyrics written the same way the other songs, the ones actually in the soundtrack, do. tell me jatp why the sorry song isn't on the soundtrack right now 🔫😠
literally no mention of alex's dancing what in the homophobia
according to julie, finally free is about the power of connecting through music, but i still choose to believe it's a gay anthem about coming out
when julie saw her dad cooking breakfast and humming finally free she "almost died from how cute it was"
wait i just realised throughout this whole book there's been barely any mentions of julie and luke sharing the mic, and nothing about luke and reggie sharing either, and julie waking through luke in bright was just ignored. disgusting.
julie canonically thinks ray is the best dad ever 🥺🥺
that being said I'm pissed the book cut reggie from this scene
julie describes herself as being "charmed" by luke being nervous jskdkkdhs
flynn's pov again babey 😎
lmao nevermind the chapter was two pages long
also the whole perfect harmony sequence is just cut and all we hear is julie mention it to flynn... bruh
reggie and alex both see how hard luke is simping for julie and just give each other shit-eating grins whenever he mentions her dgehdjdj
when willie tells alex he can't explain why he's spying on him alex says "and to think i had felt there had maybe been something between us" fuckk
alex wondered if willie had ever had feelings for him or if he was playing him the whole time 🥺😭 bby nooo
they cut girls amirite... no one talk to me...
y'all... i think, other from julie, alex has had the most pov chapters... interesting...
the boys were literally so distressed about flynn eating pizza when they could smell it and not eat it and said they'd die of deprivation sgdhdjfkd
alex: *was choking back a sob*
willie: *was choking back a sob*
me: *was also choking back a sob*
😃 wtf... when willie says he cares about alex and hates that he brought them all into this mess, alex snaps at him... bro wtf that is not what happened and doesn't fit in with what alex was feeling in that moment at all... fuck this book
julie hugs flynn in the book at lot more than in the show so maybe it does have rights after all...
they've made a "face the music" pun at least 5 times so far in this book
wait - luke says that julie played his parents unsaid emily implying she sang it?? yo...
"but there was nothing I could say, nothing I could do, to make things better. so instead, I watched her go." why does that line hit so hard
"i pulled him in for a quick hug" lmao girl no
I JUST REALISED they cut the "i would've still followed you" scene 😭 the homophobia of it all 💀💀
'"i won't forget you," he said before spoofing out. Me either.' god don't do this to me today 🥺🥺
"with my smoothest dance move" now THAT'S the alex i know and love
the promoter and his assistant have names now: frank and tasha
the book's nearly over and i just realised there were barely any reggie pov chapters 🥺 not only is he my comfort character i also really liked his internal dialogue... oh well 😔
they really let there be spelling mistakes in this book smh
"who knew sunset boulevard smelled like cat pee and old takeout containers? not very glamorous, given that this was my hollywood rockstar dream."
"the music filling me like air - like joy" god I love that line
julie feels the need to point out how good luke looks in his tuxedo avdhdndmd
"i'm gonna miss you." "not as much as we're gonna miss you." oh god oh fuck-
wait THEY GRABBED HANDS ON STAGE??! AM I MISSING SOMETHING!?!?
"are you real?" "we were always real. But now... maybe... we're here?"
okay so i finished it and it was fun to read overall but i felt like past episode 3 was very rushed and condensed (makes sense since episode 3 finished past the half-way point of the book) and it stopped being as well written (barely any internal dialogue and descriptors), and some moments were mischaracterised heavily (including a lot of the willex) and juke just didn't seem developed at all. also i wish reggie had gotten more pov chapters since he's, y'know, a main character. i'm pretty sure he got, like, 2 :( also a lot of the music scenes lacked emotion but since this is an adaptation of something with music without music i'll let it slide. it was still nice to read either way.

✨9 people you’d like to get to know better! ✨
thank you to @annasinterests for the tag!!!
i can’t lie, i haven’t done anything like this before, so I hope i do it right! there will be a few low pressure tags at the end for people i’m mutuals with!! no stress if you don’t wanna do it! there may also be one (1) person i tag who is not a mutual but who i think is great. just to clarify i also think everyone’s great.
okay here we go.
last song: All Around Me by Flyleaf. No, I cannot escape my 13 year old self. However, I have also been really enjoying synthwave and vaporwave stuff recently, and also getting into a lot of Alex G! 🎵
favourite colour: green all the way, but my second favourite colour is purple!! truly though, I love all colours, but those are my most favourite, they make me so happy 💚 💜
currently watching: i’m currently re watching The Boys! I’m a big fan of that show, I love the whole fucked up evil superhero vibes. i’m also planning on starting to watch Westworld soon, and i need to get back into Hannibal. Also if anyone wants a great detective series to watch, watch True Detective, it changed my life. Okay I’m done now. 📺
last movie: omg i feel like i never watch movies anymore but I have so many that i love, hmmmm i think the last one i watched was probably Little Miss Sunshine as it is one of my favourite ones ever. BUT if we’re talking about movies that i watched in a cinema, i can’t lie the last one i saw was Jackass Forever. love those guys. or was it Halloween Ends. who knows.🎥
currently reading: ohoho!!! i have just finished reading Brutes by Dizz Tate. i would highly recommend it, it’s a wonderful representation of working class girlhood and small town secrets. i also finished Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. all i can say is what a book, it astounded me, 11/10 📚
sweet/spicy/savoury: spicy and savoury all the way babeeyyyyy. i love spicy food so much. maybe too much. my stomach hates me. I do like chocolate a lot, but i can eat more savoury food than sweet which is a win in my opinion. 🌶️
relationship status: in a relationship!! I have been with my wonderful girlfriend for nearly three years. our anniversary is in march. she is the light of my life and my best friend. 💖
current obsession: ah yes. the things i am so normal about. i just very recently got a ps4 from a friend so i have been playing lots and lots of games. my favourites were the last of us, the last of us part two, and red dead redemption 2. especially rdr2. of course, i’m so normal about it, and the ending and story didn’t break my heart into a million tiny pieces. if you’re reading this and want to talk about these games REACH OUT TO ME I am so passionate about them and would love to talk 🕹️(this was the only gaming emoji I could find forgive me)
last thing i googled: i cannot lie it was probably ao3. or like, potato soup recipes. I love potato soup 🍲
currently working on: staying relatively sane. i graduated this july, and life feels weird right now. i’ve started working full time and i am very tired™️ all of the time. i am autistic so life can definitely be very overwhelming but i’m clinging on. unless of course you meant a project i’m currently working on, then i am currently working on trying to possibly start writing fanfiction of my own. unfortunately i also have horrendous writers block and crippling performance anxiety. let’s just say my 13 year old self’s fanfiction wasn’t doing rounds on wattpad in 2014. we shall see we shall see. ✒️
thank you for the tag again!! this was so fun and I hope it was okay and not boring!!! i will now tag some of my mutuals. and also some maybe not mutuals. ignore me if you don’t want to do this. please do not feel pressured. mwah 💋

"I'm an excellent hugger. You can ask everyone." sounds like something Reggie would say. Any pairing, platonic or romantic.
This is also for your other prompt: "Do you need a hug?" for the Greater Polyphantoms Polycule because I love how you write their dynamic And for @daintyduck99 who asked: "I'm an excellent hugger. You can ask everyone." for the greater polyphantoms polycule?
The studio is not empty. Unsurprising really. These days it was rare for the studio to ever be empty.
Loud laughter rings out through the partially open door. Flynn exhales a long slow steadying breath. Willing the weird pangs to go away before she joins the others.
With a plastered on smile and forced exuberance she walks in, greeted by the sight of Reggie and Julie sharing a microphone. The two of them lean in close together, as they give a ridiculously over the top performance of ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’ directed straight at Luke who’s clearly fighting to not smile. Alex looks on in fond amusement from behind his drum kit.
The four of them far too lost in each other that Flynn wonders if any of them noticed she even walked in. Would they notice if she turned around and left?
Really it hardly makes any sense for her heart to ache like this or for her stomach to get all knotted the way it does lately every time she’s them like this. It’s among a number of things that haven’t barely made any sense lately.
Before she can decide how she wants to announce herself, she finds herself suddenly in the middle of everything. Luke hides behind her, his large hands gripping her shoulders tight, as he begs her to help protect him. Reggie and Julie, have stopped their over the top performance.
“I’m sure Flynn’s with us on this one.” Reggie laughs, draping himself across Alex’s shoulders as Julie hugs Flynn’s arm tight, almost as if Flynn’s the rope in a game of tug of war between her and Luke.
Nerves alight in Flynn’s chest and nearly erupt as uncontrollable giggles, as the familiar burn of a blush rises up her neck. She swallows, trying to get herself under control again. It makes no sense, she’s never had this issue around them or anyone before and now. But for some reason during the past few weeks of hanging out with them it has been harder and harder to act normal.
“Flynn?”
Flynn blinks and Reggie is suddenly right in her face, green eyes furrowed in confusion. She swallows down a squeak by his sudden close proximity. How much had she spaced?
“Sorry, sorry.” Flynn shakes her head and extracts herself from Luke and Julie’s grips and backs up far enough that hopefully none of them can hear the way her heart’s gone haywire. “I have this paper due in history that I just can’t stop thinking about.”
“Oh? Ok.” Julie says, looking as perplexed as Luke and Reggie who are still standing beside her.
Flynn does her best to not cringe from replaying her own lie in her head. An effort not aided by Alex’s suspicious smirk he’s doing a poor job of hiding.
“Yep, so, I’m just gonna do that.” she says pointing back to the couch and adjusting her bag on her shoulder. “You guys get to rehearsing.”
Thankfully, Flynn always struggled maintaining focus while the band rehearsed so it didn’t raise any eyebrows when her eyes keep drifting up to watch them play. She gives up the charade when Willie shows up at the tail end of rehearsal. Smiling as he joins her on the couch to enjoy the last few songs.
Alex definitely sits up straighter and smiles broader with his boyfriends appearance. Flynn tries to not to overthink the way Reggie and Luke’s eyes also drift towards Willie when his attention is on Alex. The same sort of looks she could have sworn she’s seen directed at Julie, sometimes even Alex.
Then Reggie turns his attention to her again and winks, and she makes the mistake of looking at Julie when averting her eyes. She swallows down those annoying nerves again. It has to be just that they were performing. They always love to play to an audience, that’s all it is.
Nothing proves that more than how quickly they all disperse and fall into their own things again once rehearsal is done.
Willie drags Alex for some date he won’t disclose, the two of them shouting good byes as they dash off. Alex shoots her a suspiciously over the top ‘good luck with the homework.’ Luke and Julie quickly decide on a movie night, that is unclear if Flynn and Reggie are invited to. Before she can ask for clarification they run to the kitchen to get snacks.
Flynn sighs, looking back down to her books and notes as she resigns herself to sticking around. If nothing else she can probably get some more homework done before Julie potentially kicks her out to get some alone time with Luke.
“Do you need a hug?”
Flynn looks up from her homework, towards where Reggie is perched on his usual stool. The intensity of his concerned look shoots straight through her heart sending cascades of butterflies through her veins. She blinks at him before subtly clearing her throat, and forcing a small laugh. “What? Why do you think I need a hug?”
He shrugs as he rocks in his seat. “You just seem kind of, off, today.”
She doesn’t need to force the wry chuckle that escapes her. Ecstatic that he noticed her. Conflicted that it is probably only as a friend, feeling a weird pang of guilt wondering if any of the others noticed as well.
“So, do you?” Reggie asks again, leaning forward. A proud smile starts to split his face. “I’m an excellent hugger. You can ask everyone.”
Before Flynn can answer Luke shows back up in the studio doorway. “Why are you two still out here?”
“Wasn’t aware we were supposed to be following.” Flynn says, trying not to sound bitter while Reggie laughs his own agreement.
“Oh.” Luke looks slightly stunned and rubs the back of his neck. “Well, we thought you two were right behind us.”
Flynn exchanges a look with Reggie she can only describe as fond bemusement. She starts to pack her bag up again as Reggie reassures Luke that they are definitely following behind now. Only when she gets up to leave, she’s stopped by Reggie, who’s giving her that concerned look again.
She doesn’t say anything, can’t risk saying anything and accidentally saying way too much. Instead she answers him by wrapping her arms around his torso. His quickly envelop her, and he wasn’t lying. He doesn’t squeeze her too tight, nor are his arms awkwardly slack around her. Plus he smells nice, hints of his leather jacket mixed with a woodsy smell that makes her think of camping.
Hesitantly she pulls herself out of his grip, she gets the feeling he wouldn’t have let go a moment sooner. “Thanks,” She smiles at him.
“Anytime.” He says keeping an arm around her shoulders as they join Luke and Julie in her living room. Flynn’s eyes suddenly feel far too warm when she spots her favorite soda and the bag of sour patch kids on the table. The warmth quickly spreads to her cheeks as Julie pulls her to sit on the couch squished between her and Reggie.
“Finally.” She says as she hands Flynn the remote with a smile. “You get first pick.”
Flynn bites back her laugh. How long did Julie expect this movie night to last? Turns out long enough for them to all fall asleep piled on top of each other.

JATP Anniversary Rewatch EP 5
Ohhhh the HGC... here we go...
"I always knew rich people did weird stuff like this," Reggie, I need that as like... a sticker or a tattoo or something, cause that's my life in the hospitality industry...
CALEB!! OTHER SIDE OF HOLLYWOOD!!!!
Okay the fact that those tables still look great without the tablecloths... Ugh okay I'm becoming my major again. Dang it.
All the costumes in the HGC are just *chef's kiss*!
The way Caleb only calls Willie 'Willie' around the boys, and always William when they're not around...
"Julie and the Phantoms?" "I had some free time in French Class."
Carrie, why are you going out of your way to be a jerk? Like she intentionally seeks Julie out to bother her... I don't get ittt!
Okay but I want Julie's outfit from this episode so bad!
"There's a lot to... like here," WILLIE I SEE YOU!!!
Lol the boys' little 3 part sales pitch for their revenge.
Okay but I get how Luke is so easily swept up in Caleb's spell at first, cause this may very well be the first time he's had an adult, especially an adult who is a musician/performer, encourage his performance dreams.
Boys and food, a love story as old as time itself.
Julieeee my girl, I swear I need to hug her!
Oh Nick, dude, I know you're trying to help but...
Also, Nick has now seen the 'projector' and turned it on and off. There's no way he isn't gonna have some questions as soon has he thinks about it. There's no way that light is gonna produce holograms on any kind of level like what happens when she performs with the guys. That guy is gonna question that...
The new guy found someone!!!
I feel like every time I watch this first HGC episode, I have more questions about Willie and his background there. Cause like... he genuinely enjoys the show. He has fun jumping in and dancing. He tells the guys they should come back for movie nights. But also... he knows about the stamp, he's clearly seen it in action before. He knows Caleb is dangerous, but he doesn't think he's a danger to Alex and the other guys, despite them having ghostly abilities that he's never seen before. I just... I have so many questions...
YO do the rhinestones on the lining of Caleb's jacket match the ribbons Julie wears in her hair a couple times?!!!
Yup boys suck. Flynn, you are a great bestie and I love you.
Julieeeee I wanna give you a huggggg!!!
Oof and there's the jolt...

In the spirit of my infamous Reggie Peters Vibe Scale, i offer you the Luke Patterson Bop Index, based solely on how much our favorite himbo with a sleeve allergy bops during each song.
Now or Never: the show STARTS with our boy bopping. he’s kicking his little feet. he’s shuffling. He do be wiggling tho. Rating- 6/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Wake Up: luke only shows up at the end, and our boy is Not Bopping. he just looks generally awkward, like he’s a teenage boy that accidentally walked into the wrong room and instead of activating his fight or flight reflex, it activates the freeze response. Rating- 1/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
This Band Is Back (Reggie’s Jam): this band (and this boy) are back and they are BOPPING. luke is dancing. he’s wiggling. can he scat? no, but does that stop him? no. a flexible king. Rating- 5/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Wow: our bopping king is Not Bopping. he’s standing there, mouth slightly open. boy looks like a sim waiting for instructions. Be patient king, you will be bopping in like two minutes. Rating- 0.5/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Bright: this boy is BOPPING. briefly stops out of pure Himbo Confusion, but then he goes back to bopping. king. he do be kicking his feet, doing his little dancey dance. i will give him bonus points for the romantic tension he adds to his little mic sharing moment with Julie. man quits bopping to follow her like a lost puppy and we must respect his commitment to Being A Simp. Rating- 7/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Flying Solo: our king is BOPPING. he’s wiggling. why must he leap at poor flynn like a rabid dog? unclear, but he did it. at his core, luke patterson is just a silly little guy, and we have to commend him for letting his intrusive thoughts win. Rating- 6/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
I Got the Music: im sure that luke is bopping somewhere, but he isn’t onscreen and we cannot rate his bopping if we do not see him. Rating- 0/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
The Other Side of Hollywood: Our boy? He’s bopping. He is the most animated that we see him during any musical performance. Do you SEE his dance moves? He’s not just two stepping like he does when he plays guitar. that man is experiencing the bop of his afterlife. Rating- 11/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
All Eyes on Me: the man is just standing there. Yes he is supporting his best buddy Alex, but is he bopping? not particularly. i do love his happy little smile though. Rating- 0.25/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index.
Finally Free: a return to form for our Bopping Boy. He be movin. he be groovin. he doin his little leg kicks. he dropping to his knees. he is close to Peak Luke Patterson: puppy eyes, growly voice, boppy dance moves, big perfect smile and all. bless you baby. Rating- 9/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Perfect Harmony: our man do be movin and groovin, but the choreography is too polished to be considered a true Luke Patterson Bop. i will give dream luke props for his willingness to roll around on the floor. that floor work is truly chaotic and unhinged enough to count as Real Luke Patterson Behavior, so julie knows our boy very well. Rating- 0.05/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Edge of Great: luke is in his kicked puppy era, but that doesn’t stop him from doing his trademark two step dancey dance. look at the way that man shuffles and swivels. and that guitar solo and mic sharing moment at the end? our boy is tryna get it IN and we gotta respect it. Rating- 7/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Unsaid Emily: poor baby is NOT bopping. He is instead revealing that he has Mommy Issues and Parental Trauma in song form. honestly, got distracted thinking about how i need to call my own mother before i gotta write my own unsaid emily. im so sorry luke my beloved boy, but your bops are nonexistent here. in their place there are only tears. at least you and your parents got closure now, so there’s that. Rating- -6/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index (but 10/10 on the Make You Address Your Eldest Daughter Trauma Scale)
You Got Nothing to Lose: NO. luke is in pain. he is SCARED. he is being puppeted like a marionette. he is not in control here, and it shows. he is confused. HELP HIM. i will give luke one point for the little yippity skippity that he does when he’s being dragged onstage because i think it’s funny. but no. save our boy. let him bop!!! Rating- -8999/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index
Stand Tall: our boy is here to cross over, and he is going to BOP while he does it. he does experience difficulties, but does he let that stop his bop? no. there’s no stopping luke patterson when he’s bopping. perfect way to close out our beloved boy’s bopping career. we love you buddy. Rating- 7/10 on the Luke Patterson Bop Index

soft romance prompts from ash??? don't mind if i dooooo
shifting glances all around the room, and i can't decide between rulie and sweet tarts (the dirty candi girls could be fun!) so you decide 😄
There's something about the new library assistant that's driving Julie crazy.
He demands attention with the way he moves, as if he's dancing to a song that only he can hear. He definitely has the legs for it, long and shapely in a way that almost makes Julie miss her ex-girlfriend.
Maybe that's why he seems familiar, but her gut tells her that it's not just that.
"I know he's cute, Jules, but you'd better stop ogling him before he catches you."
Julie flushes, burying her face in the book she's supposed to be scouring as a reference for her paper. Flynn coos.
"Aw, I called it! Someone has a crush."
"I do not!" Julie hisses. "I've never even spoken to him. He just reminds me of…something. It's bothering me so much that I can't focus."
"Mm, that's what's bothering you. Not the way he winked at you right before he raked his hand through his hair."
"What?!"
Julie's eyes fly back to him, only for him to catch her gaze, and she squeaks, hurriedly looking anywhere else. Repeatedly. Maybe he'll think she's just trying to figure out what section to look in and she only looked at him accidentally.
She does need another book, besides, so she vanishes into the shelves once the coast appears to be clear, still wishing she could literally become invisible as she searches for her source.
The book she needs taunts her from a high shelf, and of course there aren't any step stools nearby, so she pushes her sleeves up with a sigh, bracing herself before she starts to scale the shelves.
"Need some help?"
She yelps as she slips, but a strong set of arms catches her before she can really fall or stumble too far, anchoring her to a firm chest. She tips her head back to thank her savior, only to find her face inches away from that of the cute library assistant.
His eyes are absolutely lethal up close, glittering green above a field of freckles that dot his flushed cheeks like daisies. Even his smile is bright, a disarmingly charming, crooked thing, and her heart pounds furiously in her throat, both from the proximity and the striking familiarity.
She's seen that smile before. Flynn's words suddenly make a lot more sense.
"You're that bassist," she blurts, wincing at her volume, but he quirks his eyebrows in an amused invitation for her to continue, so she does in a hurried whisper. "For Sunset Curve. I saw you guys at that showcase the Creative Arts Center puts on every Autumn. You're really good."
His cheeks go an even more brilliant shade of pink at the compliment, and it's not just her heart that's racing, she realizes with a start. His is thumping just as hard.
"Thanks." He unfastens his arms from around her waist with a sheepish cough.
He's rubbing the back of his neck when she spins around to look at him properly, and she's about to say something, anything, to keep their conversation from ending on an incredibly awkward note, but he surprises her again.
"You're the girl who sang along to most of the songs we covered. Not that you were the only one, but your voice really carries, and you—you're also really good. Like, to say you sound angelic isn't a stretch. I had you pegged as a performance major."
She giggles, covering her mouth to stifle the sound. She can't help it. It should be cheesy, but he's so earnest. He means it.
"Thank you. I am! I would've guessed that you study music too, but I've never seen you in any of my classes. Music minor?"
He bounces on his toes. "Yup! Piano."
"Me too! I couldn't do piano and vocals as my major focus, so."
"I'm sure you could," he says with a shrug, "but they made you choose one."
She pokes him with a pleased smile.
"You've never even heard me play. You don't even know my name!"
"Okay, well, I'm Reggie, and I'm sure if I ever heard you, it would only prove me right."
"Julie," she breathes, offering him her hand even though it's a little late for that, but he takes it anyway, folding it into his larger one. His calluses rasp against her skin, and she suppresses a shiver. "Hi."
He laughs quietly. "Hi, Julie."
He says her name like he's testing it out. He's still holding her hand as he searches her eyes. She doesn't want him to let go.
It gives her an idea.
"Can I write on you?"
His eyebrows fly back up as he finally releases her hand. He smirks at her.
"I usually get asked the other way around—"
She swats at him, and he laughs a little too loud, but no one comes to reprimand them. She's still trying and failing to fight a smile as he continues.
"But sure, by all means."
She's had a highlighter behind her ear. She must look like an absolute dork, but it comes in handy, now, and, well—she kind of is one. Something tells her he is, too.
She scribbles her number on the back of his hand in purple, along with her name and a little heart. He goes a little pink again when he sees it, and she melts, just a little. There's a hopeless romantic somewhere in there, she's sure of it.
"There. So you can come hear me play. Or ask me out. Either would be good. But I'd expect you to play for me, too. Okay?"
"Yeah," he says slowly, "yeah, that'd be—yeah. I'll call you."
She giggles again, pressing her lips to his cheek before scampering back to her seat, and she can't help it if they keep escaping her every time she catches his eyes.
It's not until Flynn gets filled in and lets out an ear-piercing squeal that they temporarily get booted from the library, though.

Chapter 13 Posted: 8/19/2022
Summary:
Phantoms, the new Network TV show, recently got picked up for its second season and filming is already underway. The show follows a special government unit tasked with dealing with the supernatural. The series will return Marci Harrison who portrays the lead detective in charge of a group of junior detectives (Reggie Peters, Alex Mercer, Kayla Caro), forensic scientists (Luke Patterson and Julie Molina), and a rookie detective (Flynn Rider).
Julie Molina is enjoying her time on Phantoms, the supernatural detective show. It had been her saving grace after being blacklisted from basically everywhere following her media feud with former Disney Channel costar Carrie Wilson that tanked her music career before it even started.
But with rumors that the show isn’t going to get a third season, Julie is worried about her career completely ending with no jobs or recording contracts in sight.
Add in the fact that even if they get a third season, Julie’s costar might leave the show and go off to pursue his music career.
And Julie is trying to understand why said costar potentially leaving is making her so upset.
Chapter 13 Summary: Julie and Luke have a movie night. Twitter interrupts that.
Collection: JATP Big Band 2022
Read on AO3
Keep Reading for an excerpt
“You know Luke if you wanted to do movie night, you could have just asked?” Julie told Luke after he set his guitar down and grabbed the remote as the two sat on his couch.
“But if we label this as a songwriting session we can write it off on our taxes as a work expense,” Luke replied, clicking on some comedy on Netflix.
“You are so weird,” Julie rolled her eyes, which caused Luke to stick his tongue out at her.
It had been about a week since Julie had won TVLine Performer of the Week, and almost two since the season two finale. No one had really heard anything from the studio or any news outlets about the fate of the show. Most of the cast had just become numb to it all. It took a toll on all of them to stress about it all day and they were now to the point where they had almost forgotten about it, basically making it to the other side of the stress that they didn’t even think was possible. They felt like zombies, going through the motions of each day as the fate of their careers hung in the balance.
“Hey get off your phone,” Luke shoved Julie a few minutes into the movie. Julie didn’t budge though, the phone pressed up to her face, in complete shock. Luke, realizing that whatever was going on was serious, pulled out his phone which had been on silent.
Notifications flooded his screen, including a few voicemails from his management team. “Of fuck.”
“What does this mean?” Julie asked, the glow of her phone completely lighting up her face in the partially dark living room.
“I have no idea.”
Caleb Covington and Phantoms are trending on Twitter
TVDaily: Phantoms’ network has announced that it will not be renewing its contract with Caleb Covington, showrunner and executive producer. No news on what this means for the fate of the TV Show.
TVInsider: Caleb Covington's network contract was not renewed. Phantom’s was the EP and showrunner’s project. It’s all but confirmed that Phantom’s will not be renewed.
TVScoop: Phantoms all but confirmed to not be renewed by network, Caleb Covington fired from the show.
ShowBizNews: Caleb Covington and three other producers were let go from the network. No news about Phantoms. Most likely will be canceled.
Reggie to Spookyyyyyyyy
Reggie: ???????
Kayla: yeah what he said ^
Alex: Just got off the phone with my agent. They said that their contracts were with the studio, not the show
Bobby: I’ve been talking to a few people I know. They think it's true. If they are cutting their contracts, it’s not a good thing.
Julie: Phantoms was Caleb’s show. It was his baby. If they are cutting him they are most likely cutting the show.
Luke: I believe he had a three-show contract with the studio. One was Phantoms, one was his failed Reality Show about The Other Side of Hollywood and the other one was his one-season game show Got Nothing To Lose.
Willie: So if the show was canceled why wouldn’t it just be a nonrenewal? Because if the show was canceled then his contract would be completed?
Flynn: I’m on the phone with my dad right now. They don’t know if it was just not a renewal or if they ended his contract. The new stations aren’t consistent and there is no real confirmation. He is calling around to see who knows what.
Flynn: But Willie is right in the sense that if they canceled the show his contract would be done unless there was a clause about a certain amount of episodes etc which he might have not hit because of the failed pilot
Flynn: We don’t know anything because of course his contract wasn’t leaked. I’ll let you guys know once I know more.
Flynn: But to be honest guys, it doesn’t look good.
Reggie: Mrs. Harrison, do you have any idea? You would know out of all of us?
Kayla: Mrs. Harrison are you there??
Julie: Mrs. Harrison???

Reading Peace Vigil this Saturday, 9 July 2022 at 11 a.m
Hi All,
I wanted to remind you that our regular, monthly vigil on the Reading Town Common is scheduled to be this coming Saturday, 9 July 2022, from 11 a.m. to noon. Edamame and I look forward to seeing you.
I dunno, I have always had a basic problem with killing people, but we're also seeing so much incompetence and dishonesty in our military establishment that I sometimes wonder that, even if I didn't believe killing people is wrong, I might still be in favor of peace because striving or peace might keep the more malign elements at bay. Of course, that's why the warmongers claim is their purview, keeping malign elements at bay. Why are they so bad at that?
Just this past week we had one of our celebrated generals, Michael Flynn, unwilling to state on the record whether or not he believed in the peaceful transition of power. Perhaps that's not explicit wording one finds in the Constitution. Of course this is also the same guy who was an intimate in the White House while also holding a secret side gig as an unregistered lobbyist for Turkey. Then, the military announced this week that they didn't see any reason why soldiers needed to have any education. One no longer needs to be a high-school graduate to join the army. So, we'll soon have an army of illiterates who don't have a clue as to how to figure out things on their own. I guess I'm old, but I'm always suspicious about putting significant power into the hands of people who can't read, people whose approach to learning is to watch YouTube videos. Then too, we just had another example of the danger of putting weapons of destruction into the hands of ignorant teenagers. This time I mean, of course, the young man who shot up a Fourth of July celebration in Chicago, and was on his way to Wisconsin for another performance of his patriotic, valorous behavior before he was apprehended.
Anyway, I'll stop here and just ask you all to please join Edamame and me on Saturday as we try to remind our friends and neighbors that peaceful living might be an intelligent choice.
take care,       larry p

I can't believe I used to hate this chapter... I'M SO EXCITED TO SHARE IT!!! I hope y'all love it!
Chapter 10/16, preview below ⬇️ (yes, the chapter count went up!)
FIC WARNINGS: (take effect in ch 11) Original Character Death, Missing Child, Child Death, Drowning (heed all tags on ao3)
FIC SUMMARY: Julie and Reggie form a deep friendship after meeting through their brothers (“We’re FRIENDS! Stop making it weird!”). He and his friends (and bandmates) help bring her out of the fog of grief, reconnecting her with the music that she’d thought she’d lost with her mother. Over the course of a summer, the tables turn and Julie finds herself showing up for Reggie in ways that they could have never expected.
CHAPTER RELATIONSHIPS: Julie & Luke & Reggie & Alex & Bobby & Flynn, Julie & Flynn, Julie & Reggie, pre-Alex/Willie
CHAPTER OPENING SCENES:
After several very long, very extensive conversations, the boys decide to ask Ray if he would be willing to be their collective stand-in guardian until they were all of age and he agreed, with several conditions (including but not limited to Julie continuing to prioritize school and the boys maintaining their own moderate to good standings so that they could graduate). He also offered to reach out to some of Rose’s old contacts to hunt down a trusted lawyer and get a feel for how they felt about Andi and her label. Everything was falling into place.
After they agree to having Andi represent them, including Flynn as an integral part of their team, they’re planning for another showcase. And, it’s at the Orpheum.
Luke is diving deep into perfecting songs and set lists to keep himself distracted from how huge this is. Flynn expands their social media presence, their personal and the official band accounts. They’re recording and sharing behind the scenes content and sneak peak snippets of what they’re working on as well as promoting the upcoming show directly. Sunset Curve’s pre-existing fans overwhelmingly throw their support behind Julie and the Phantoms and the uploads of their two previous performances are doing incredibly well on YouTube. Julie, Reggie, Alex, and Bobby roll as best they can with everything the other two throw at them.
Before they know it, it’s time to load up and head over to the Orpheum. Up until now, their performances have all felt relatively low stakes and while they’re all trying to treat it just like any other gig, the tell-tale signs of their nerves are peeking through. Once they’ve made it through sound check, they wind up pacing, bouncing, and fidgeting in the green room and after only a few moments in their presence, Flynn snaps.
“Y’all need to chill the fuck out. You’re making ME nervous!”
Julie glares at them and they put their hands up in defense.
“You know I’m right. Go for a walk. Get some air! Something.”
Julie huffs out a breath but complies, gathering the guys and taking them outside for a breather.
The fresh air and slight energy release helps and they manage to make it to the stage no worse for wear to put on a show they’ve come to expect from themselves.
The crowd absolutely loves them and Julie finishes the final notes of their final song with her arm raised in triumph and tears running down her face. The boys exchange concerned looks as they join her to bow, signaling the end of the set. She manages to get offstage before breaking down completely and the boys are right behind her to catch her before she collapses onto the floor. They look at one another over her head as they wrap her up into a group hug, uttering comforting phrases as they hold her.
Ray comes running backstage, “what happened? What’s wrong? Mija, are you ok?”
The boys back away, letting Ray see his daughter but they don’t stray too far. Reggie keeps his arms wrapped around her. She starts gulping for air through her sobbing. Ray rushes the rest of the way up to them and lowers himself to look her in the eyes. Or the close approximation of it, if they’d been open.
“Julie, mija, can you hear me?” Ray asks her gently.
She nods.
He looks up at Reggie who nods at him and starts modeling deep breathing for her.
“Follow Reggie’s breaths,” Ray tells her and guides her through them verbally.
The first few are shaky but it doesn’t take long until her breathing is synced with Reggie’s.
“Can we take you to sit down?” Ray asks.
She clutches at Reggie’s shirt desperately.
“I won’t let you go,” Reggie whispers to her. “Promise.”
She nods then. The boys and Ray quickly glance around the space to see where they can take her. They’ve barely made it off the stage and are still in the wings. The boys are still hovering, concerned, but they know better than to get in anyone’s way and aren’t willing to leave Julie if they don’t have to.
“There!” Luke points to a set of speaker cases.
Ray and Reggie slowly direct Julie toward them and Reggie guides her so that she’s sitting beside him on the largest one. Flynn, who had joined them at some point, hands Julie a bottle of water and backs up to join the boys. She struggles to open it, holding it out silently and Reggie grabs it to twist off the lid and hand it back to her, his arms still wrapped around her as promised. She manages to take a few sips and holds it out again. This time Ray takes it and grabs the lid from Reggie, resealing it and setting it down as he crouches to look at her.
“Mija, what happened?”
“She should be here,” Julie sobs and Reggie tightens his arms around her.
Ray wraps both of them in a hug of his own. “You’re right, she should,” he agrees. “She’d be so, so proud of you. I’m so proud of you.”
Reggie’s eyes are now filled with tears and he sniffles.
“Well great, now you’ve got me,” Alex chastises him wetly, eliciting a chuckle from Reggie, Ray, and Julie. She lifts her head to look at the others and waves them over. They don’t think twice and swoop in to wrap the trio into a massive group hug. It’s a little awkward, navigating around all of the equipment, but it’s perfect for right now.
“I love you guys,” Julie whispers.
Everyone who can reach places a kiss on her head. “We love you too,” they chorus.

That bingo card is just so full of good tropes, "who would want to date you?" Reggie/anyone?
Carrie grimaced as she adjusted her ponytail, hating the pressure it put on her head. But it was game day, and all the Bobcat cheerleaders were expecting to have their hair in the signature style, along with their uniform on all day.
Carrie really hated game days.
She loved being a cheerleader though. Coming up with the routines, the songs, doing all the flips and flies in the air. It was the one time she was free, letting go of everything but the feel of the wind in her hair and how right it felt to be performing. Plus being Cheer Captain meant that the student populous left her alone. She was untouchable.
It also meant that she had left her old friends behind. She glanced over to where Julie and Flynn looked to be having an amazing time, laughing at whatever Luke and Alex were arguing about. She turned her eyes away quickly though, she couldn't be caught staring at them, people would ask questions.
But she chanced one more look, and then wondered... where was Reggie?
Reggie was usually never far from the gang, usually going on about the latest episode of whatever Star Wars show he had watched or his latest D & D campaign. Carrie missed those, even though she would never admit that, even when she was friends with them. Loved being the sneaky rogue or whimsical bard to Reggie's elf ranger or dwarf barbarian. She's give anything to spend her Fridays trying to figure out how to add up the dice rather than nursing degusting vodka while the lacrosse players made sloppy moves on her.
That's when she spotted Reggie, shyly approaching the table, his DM guidebook in his hands. Carrie bit back a sigh, because he was the real reason she enjoyed the game. His skill at storytelling, his patience explaining all the rules, and it didn't hurt that he was really easy on the eyes. Before she joined the squad, they had a mild flirtation going, but of course, it stopped immediately after she dropped them all for the call of popularity.
Carrie tried hard not to think about how much that must have stung, because she knew she was still feeling the hurt from doing it.
"Hey Carrie," Reggie said, ignoring the dirty looks the rest of the girls were sending him way. "I was cleaning out my notes from the last campaign, and found these." He offered her a pile of papers, and saw her character sheets. Copious notes in both their handwriting filling the pages. "Figured you might want them back."
Carrie folded the notes over quickly, as she could see McKenna trying to spy what was on them. "Thanks," Carrie replied, trying to convey her sincerity with her eyes, if not through her words.
"You're always welcome to join us again if you want," Reggie offered. "We're about to start a new quest, find the Spear of Selene. Maybe get something to eat after?"
"Ew," Janicka spat. "Of course Carrie doesn't want to do that. I mean, really? Who would want to date you?"
Reggie's face fell, and Carrie looked at the girls beside her who were snickering, like they were too good for anyone, let alone Reggie. Carrie hated it, hated the mean girl mentality. Hate the price she had to pay to keep herself reigning supreme at this stupid school. So she made a choice.
"I would," she said, loud and bold. "I'd love to play with you Reggie. Milkshakes after, my treat?"
"I'll pay for the pizza then," he said, his face lighting up with a smile. "See you then?"
Carrie looked at the gobsmacked and disgusted faces surrounding her, and figured she was in this deep already, why not go even further? "Actually, do you think it would be okay if I sat with you guys at lunch? Maybe we could make me a new character?"
Reggie nodded so hard she was afraid his head would fly off, but he offered her his arm, and then gallantly took her tray. Carrie didn't look back at the cheer squad, and was grateful that no one at Reggie's table kicked up a stink about her coming back. Julie even offered her some chips with a smile.
But the best part was Friday night, after a successful campaign, and a delicious meal, when Reggie pulled the ponytail from her hair and massaged her scalp, making Carrie sigh in relief before pulling him down for a truly delicious kiss.
Hey, her character rolled a nat 20 for charisma, might as well put it to use!

Jealous - Luke Patterson
Summary: You bring a friend to a concert with you and Luke gets the wrong idea.
A/N: this it like, alive!Luke, it’s also like 3k long 😭😭
Julie and the Phantoms Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Luke pouted, leg twitching as he looked around the small venue that Alex had booked them that night. The doors had only just opened and people were beginning to stream in. They’d played shows before but Luke was still surprised watching people come through the doors. He honestly couldn’t believe anyone had bought tickets. There was no doubt in Luke’s mind that they were the greatest band ever but seeing other people agree with that sentiment always made him feel like he was on cloud nine. Hanging a little over the second-floor balcony of the venue, watching every person that walked through the door, he wanted to be excited but his nerves had nothing to do with the show tonight.
“Would you chill man?” Alex chided, tapping Luke’s arm with a bottle of water. “She’ll be here.”
“She hasn’t missed a performance yet.” Reggie pointed out, spinning on a stool that he’d nabbed from the bar.
“Yeah, I know that.” Luke insisted, standing up but glancing back over his shoulder, “she said she’d make it before doors though...”
Ever since Julie had started playing with the guys, you had started hanging around more. You were embarrassed to say but you and Julie had been little more than friendly neighbors before she’d starting renting out her garage for band practice. The first time you’d heard the loud music coming from the Molina’s yard you’d gone to inspect and found the doors open and a band rehearsing inside. Needless to say, it was that first meeting that had cemented yours and Luke’s relationship. Not exactly more than friends but certainly not just friends. The more you came around the more the two of you danced around your feelings for each other and the more you neglected your other friends.
-
“Just, don’t say anything to the guys-”
“You mean, don’t say anything to Luke.” Julie countered, standing at her locker with you in between classes. Tonight, was the show at the Voltage Lounge and they’d been stoked about it since they got the gig. You would’ve been equally stoked, and you were, until you realized it was also your best friend’s birthday and you had promised to get dinner together.
“Look, I’ll be there, before doors, I promise. But I’ve kinda been ditching my other friends lately and I promised Mikey that we’d get dinner for his birthday.” You replied, shutting your locker and walking with Julie toward the music room.
“Don’t you think not telling Luke you’re going out with another guy would be worse than saying you’re gonna be a little late to the show?” Julie countered. She grabbed a seat by Flynn and you sat on the other side, leaning forward to keep the conversation going.
“I just don’t want him thinking I’m ditching the performance okay, me and Mikey are just friends...as are me and Luke.” You replied, though even saying it sounded like a lie. You knew as well as Julie and Flynn that you were avoiding mentioning the dinner because you didn’t want Luke to get the wrong idea.
“You tell yourself that.” Flynn chided, pulling a face at you, clearly not believing you at all.
“We are.”
“Yeah, and anytime he sings anything even slightly romantic he looks right at you.”
“It’s true,” Julie piped up, “he’s been coming up with a lot more love songs recently. Whenever I ask him about it he just says he wants us to have a balanced song pool or something.”
“We’re not a thing.” You insisted. “I’m going to dinner and then I’ll be at the show...simple as that. Just, don’t say anything.”
Julie agreed, throwing out some lame excuse about you having to go over your grandparents’ house before the show as a reason that you weren’t going to the venue with them like you usually did. Getting booked somewhere as a headliner was still fairly new to them and you always liked to be there in the moments before the show started, an extra person to reassure them that they completely and totally deserved all of this.
While you didn’t think your absence would be felt too exponentially, it definitely was. Luke had been unusually antsy since they’d gotten there. He was always eager to get onstage but this was different, he kept looking over the railing as if he was going to hurl and rush out of the venue. Reggie tried reassuring him that everything was fine but nothing seemed to calm his nerves.
“Hey, ten minutes alright, start getting ready,” one of the crew said, scribbling something on his clipboard.
“Okay, thanks.” Julie nodded, looking back over the railing as he left, the calm she was trying to portray immediately washing away when she saw you walk into the venue. Any other time she would’ve been jumping for joy but you weren’t alone and she could only assume that the guy with you was the Mikey you had mentioned earlier in the day. “So we should-” as she turned to address them, hopefully distract Luke, Reggie caught sight of you in the crowd.
“Look!” He nudged Luke’s arm, pointing you out, “she made it.”
Julie grimaced as Luke looked over the balcony and down into the crowd. It took him a moment to find you but Julie and Alex could pinpoint the exact moment that he did. A flicker of happiness at the sight of you, quickly washed away and turned into, first confusion, and then something akin to anger. He frowned, eyebrows furrowing as he watched you get a spot on his side, talking the whole time to the guy with you.
“Who the fuck is that?” He asked.
You had told Julie that your plan was to go, get through dinner with Mikey, and then come straight to the venue for the show. A simple enough evening, and you’d expected it to go off without a hitch except Mikey got curious about who you were texting and guilted you into inviting him along.
“So, this band?” Mikey asked, looking around the small venue, “how’d you become a groupie?”
“I’m not a groupie. Julie and I are friends.” You stressed, scrunching your nose up as the lights dimmed and the people around you screamed in excitement.
The anticipation was palpable and, truthfully, you were right there with the other concert goers around you, excited by the prospect of seeing Julie and the Phantoms perform live. It wasn’t something that was new for you, a front row seat to all their rehearsals was part of your everyday life and yet, something about seeing them perform live like this, with a crowd that so responsive to them, only added to the adrenaline coursing through you.
As the guys ran out on stage, Alex, then Reggie, then Luke, and finally Julie, the noise level around you seemed to pick up. But there was something off, something that didn’t quite sync with you that settled as the first chords sounded. You frowned, realizing, as Luke purposely missed you when he scanned the crowd, exactly what it was that you were feeling. It wasn’t accidental in the slightest, Julie met your gaze more than once and so did Reggie and Alex but Luke was ignoring you. He was very intentionally ignoring you standing there in the very front row, pressed against the barricade in front of him.
It was as if someone had knocked all the air out of your chest. Somehow that loud, crowded venue where you could feel the bass pounding in your stomach, felt empty. You felt small and invisible and even when Mikey shouted in your ear that they were actually an awesome band you lacked the excitement to tell him that they were the best band ever. You just nodded. And as much as you wanted to look away from Luke, a silent “two can play at this game”, you didn’t. Instead, you just kept watching him, waiting for him to look your way and somehow explain what was going on that had him acting like you didn’t exist.
-
The encore ended, the boys each running off the stage before Julie, Luke standing at the side waiting for her as she waved one last time to the crowd before setting the mic back in its stand and running off. The mass of people who had been screaming lulled into a buzz, some of them leaving as others lingered, waiting for the band to come back out to sign autographs and take pictures.
You walked Mikey to the merch table while other people hung around chatting with each other, the house lights up so that you could actually see as you walked. Flynn stood behind the table and she waved when she saw you.
“I’ll catch you later, thanks for letting me tag along.” He said, hanging at the door for a minute.
“Yeah totally, thanks for coming. Happy birthday,” you hugged him and then circled back to Flynn, stepping behind the table and sitting down on the stool.
“Girl, you do not seem happy.” Flynn commented as she grabbed a sweatshirt from one of the boxes and handed it across the table to a fan.
“I’m just...” you shrugged, looking back down toward the stage, “confused?”
“Did something happen with Mikey?” She asked.
You handed a shirt from one of the bins to her as she rung up a sale, jumping in to ask a few people what they needed as she waited on a group of girls. When they had all finally dispersed, the line lulling for a moment, you turned back to Flynn, “no...I mean other than him inviting himself along. No, it was Luke...he was like, it sounds dumb to say it but, it was like he was ignoring me.”
“Maybe he didn’t see you?” She suggested, attempting to be reassuring.
“He saw me. Then he just, acted like he didn’t the whole rest of the night.” You replied, “I don’t know...it felt shitty.”
“You know who you should tell that to?”
“Luke?” You asked, already knowing her answer. Flynn was the queen of confrontation.
“Exactly.”
You frowned, the last thing you wanted to do was talk to Luke. If he was going to ignore you the way he had on stage, Flynn had been trying to make you feel better but you knew he was avoiding you for some reason. He always made it a point to find you in the crowd but tonight he had looked anywhere but you.
A few straggling fans shouted excitedly and you looked passed the table to see that the guys and Julie had come out from backstage for meet and greets. As they spread out to talk to people, Reggie moved toward the merch stand, parking himself close enough to you that he could chat with you without drawing too much attention. You knew it was on purpose, that was usually Luke’s spot but tonight he stayed all the way down by the stage, almost reluctant to be out on the floor.
“Hey, great job.” You mentioned, grabbing a water bottle from under the table and handing it to Reggie. He took it gratefully, taking a sip before setting it on the floor beside him and beginning to greet the group of fans that had hung back to say hello to him.
When there was a spare minute between signing and taking pictures, he moved down the table, closer to you then before, leaning against a bare patch of wood where Flynn had already cleared away shirts. “Who was that guy you came with?” Reggie asked, looking back at you as you took one of the larger hoodies out of a box and pulled it on. Without the people, the venue had started to get cold.
“My friend Mikey, it was his birthday and he’s been bugging me to hang out. He tagged along really and I didn’t wanna ditch him...” you replied, coming around the side of the table, “I didn’t really think it’d be an issue.”
“Oh, it's not with me. We need all the fans we can get right?” Reggie joked, “did he like our music?”
“Yeah, totally loved it.”
The last of the concert goers finally made it to the door, waving to Reggie one last time as they walked passed the closed down merch stand. He waved back and you turned to watch them leave, back to the stage.
“Hey, can we talk?” Luke’s voice came from behind you and you looked over your shoulder to him, standing there with his plaid jacket over a black band tee. His hair was pushed off his forehead from sweat and he was frowning already, not exactly the version of him you wanted to talk to. You couldn’t help that longing feeling for the Luke that would come off stage and wrap you in a sweaty hug guaranteed to piss of fans.
“Uh yeah, of course...I need to talk to you too.” You replied, turning fully toward him as Reggie stood up, grabbing his water and heading back down toward the stage. Flynn came around the merch stand, following after him, leaving you and Luke alone.
A beat passed between you and he ran his hand through his hair, trying and failing to fix the sweaty mess. Unable to stand the silence, you started talking, “you guys were awesome...as usual.”
“Yeah, thanks.” He had asked to talk to you but he wasn’t really sure how to start the conversation he wanted to have and he couldn’t bring himself to really meet your eyes, his gaze flickering passed you every few seconds.
“Would’ve been even better if you weren’t ignoring me all night,” you blurted.
That seemed to be the push he needed to react, “yeah well, you brought some date with you? After the other night...” he trailed off for a moment, meeting your eyes finally, “I mean, that wasn’t nothing.”
-
Band practice had ended earlier than usual and, while you sat on the couch trying to win a particularly difficult level of candy crush on Luke’s phone, everybody else discussed a pizza run for dinner. You raised your hand to vote for extra cheese but didn’t look up when Julie left to go and Reggie and Alex walked out onto the driveway to play basketball. You didn’t look up until Luke dropped down on the couch next to you, putting his chin on your shoulder.
“How’s it going?” He asked, keeping his eyes on his phone screen as you turned your head, so close that your nose almost brushed his cheek.
“Good?” You said, drawing the word out as you looked at him skeptically, “can I ask why you’re so close to me?”
“So, you can bask in my awesomeness?” Luke teased, wrapping his arm around your waist.
“I think the only thing I’m basking in is your post-rehearsal sweat.” You joked, shifting a little so that his chin fell off your shoulder and you were facing him. You set his phone down on the coffee table, giving your whole attention to Luke.
He smiled at you, eyes searching yours. There was no denying that very specific look that Luke seemed to get, one you could never quite name but always recognized. He would smile, a soft sort of piercing look that you couldn’t look away from on his face. And you were always hypnotized by it, feeling like maybe you should distract yourself from it but never really wanting to.
“What are we doing?” You chanced asking, meeting his gaze and holding it.
“What’da ya mean?” He asked, grin still on his face and you felt like he’d gotten closer but you didn’t move.
“You’re staring at me.”
“You’re staring at me.” He echoed.
“Luke.” You wanted to roll your eyes but you also didn’t want to look away, even for a split second.
He leaned closer, the joking air that had been dissipating completely gone now. You licked your lips, trying to keep yourself calm as Luke moved in. One second, he was looking at you and the next your eyes were closing, his lips pressed against yours and his grip on your waist tightening.
The kiss didn’t last long. The doors to the garage creaked open and you both pulled away, looking anywhere but at each other as Julie walked in with pizza. Alex and Reggie came in behind her and Luke stood up, grabbing a stack of magazines off the coffee table and moving them out of the way. You picked up his phone, unlocking it and opening candy crush again to distract yourself.
-
Neither of you had discussed the kiss, mostly because you were too afraid that if you brought it up he would tell you that it was just a mistake. Some spur of the moment thing that happened but that he didn’t really mean. You hadn’t even told Julie or Flynn about it.
But now you were standing at the empty merch table with him and he was acting like you had purposely tried to hurt him. A ‘date’ he had called it and all at once you realized exactly what he thought had happened.
“No, no,” you shook your head, “Mikey wasn’t a date.”
“You didn’t say you were bringing Mikey with you to our show.” Luke replied, your best friend’s name rolling off his tongue like a curse.
“He was bugging me about not hanging out recently and it’s his birthday so we were supposed to go out for dinner but I kept mentioning you…the band…and he wanted to come to the show.” You tried to explain.
“Why didn’t you just tell me?” It was stupid to ask, technically you didn’t owe him any explanation at all. You could bring whoever you wanted but he couldn’t help feeling affronted by it.
“I didn’t want you to think I was gonna ditch the show. And…I didn’t want you to think it was a date.” You replied. “The kiss wasn’t nothing and I should’ve talked to you about it sooner cause…I really like you and it felt really shitty to be ignored tonight.”
Luke rubbed the back of his neck, “I’m sorry, I was just pissed when I saw you with some other guy.”
“Mikey’s just a friend.” You replied, “I like you Luke, I like when you pretend to play the guitar badly to make me laugh and I like when we hang out without everyone else and just do nothing or go to the beach and I like going out with you at midnight to get ice cream cause neither of us can sleep and I don’t want to date anyone else…I want you.”
“I want you too.” Luke said, stepping closer to you. When he reached for your hands, you laced your fingers with his. He leaned forward, pressing his lips against yours again, the salty taste of sweat from playing a show still there on his mouth as you kissed him back.

Prompt: Planting a Garden
Slices of Summer(15): A look at the band’s first summer together. Can they figure out boundaries, communication, visibility, among other things and still enjoy their summer?
First; Prev Next
______________
They were in the middle of a rehearsal before Flynn stole Julie away for their girl’s only weekend when it happened. There was a knock on the studio door. Everyone immediately fell silent and stared at it. Flynn sat on the couch, so it wasn’t her, not that she would have knocked. Ray wouldn’t have knocked either.
They all exchanged looks of confusion and Reggie silently asked “Who’s knocking?” As if Luke knew. As if whoever was there clearly didn’t just hear them playing. The knock came again, louder and insistent.
Julie cautiously pushed the door open, “Carrie?” Flynn put her phone down in favor of glaring at the door.
“Julie.” Carrie’s tone was tense and a moment of quiet followed. There must have been some sort of silent conversation between the two girl’s. Julie suddenly sighed and pushed the door open further to allow Carrie in.
It wasn’t just her voice, Carrie’s entire being screamed tense. No that wasn’t quite right, Luke realized the entire room had gone tense.  He didn’t have time to analyze it though as Carrie was very much staring at him, Alex, and Reggie. They had gone visible for Flynn’s sake.
They also had not discussed what to do in this situation. Were they still meant to be holograms, projecting in for practice? He watched Carrie’s eyes critically drift around the room. She must’ve had a similar thought and was looking for the projector. Shit, she was looking for the projector. The one currently up in the loft.
“What do you want, Carrie?” Flynn demanded. Luke wasn’t sure if Flynn and Julie had noticed Carrie’s casual search of the studio.
Carrie scoffed, “What? Am I not good enough to be introduced to your band before you start interrogating me?” Julie and Flynn exchanged looks with each other before they glanced back towards him and the guys. He didn’t know what to do so he looked to Alex and Reggie, and they clearly didn’t know what to do either.
“Guess you already told them about me.” Carrie muttered, she must have taken their silent panic as an answer of some sort. “I’ve actually been trying to text and message you on Instagram, I guess you must've missed those.” Carrie picked at her nails. There must’ve been some hidden meaning to her words that Luke didn’t get because Flynn jutted her chin defiantly and Julie turned sheepish.
Carrie subtly shook her head with an eye roll and continued on. “Anyway, I came here to invite you to the annual Wilson summer party this weekend.”
Julie blinked. Flynn glared so hard, Luke winced. Then Flynn practically growled, “What are you planning?”
“Nothing.” Carrie almost sounded, wounded? Flynn didn’t look impressed and Julie stared in quiet skepticism. Luke squirmed uncomfortably, he did not want to be here right now but how was he supposed to leave? He still didn’t know if Carrie thought they were projecting in or not.
“If it makes you feel better you can even bring them.” Carrie waved a dismissive hand. So she didn’t think they were projecting? Could he get away with just walking out at this point? He didn’t get a chance to try, Carrie now spoke directly to him and the guys, “Where are you from again?”
Flynn must have heard the high pitched whine building in all of their throats because she stepped closer to Carrie. “Stop deflecting. Why are you here?”
Carrie and Flynn exchanged long glares. Luke had been wrong. Crying girl’s weren’t that scary after all. This, whatever it was, was scary. Carrie buckled first, her shoulders slumped slightly “I’ve just been thinking a lot since I saw your Orpheum performance”
“You saw the Orpheum performance?” Julie’s disbelief echoed in her eyes. Flynn’s eyes had turned analytical as she closely looked Carrie over.
“My dad dragged me to see it after he saw one of your videos.”
Luke’s world stopped spinning. Carrie's dad had seen them perform at the Orpheum. More specifically Trevor Wilson, formerly Bobby Shaw rhythm guitarist for Sunset Curve, had seen them perform. Bobby had been at the Orpheum. Bobby who had last seen them alive in 1995 only hours before they were supposed to perform on that very same stage together.
As much as Luke wanted to claim he didn’t care, he didn’t know if he could. A deeper part of him did care. The part of him that felt like he’d last seen Bobby not even that long ago. Not Trevor but Bobby, his Bobby.
Carrie groaned and only then did Luke realize he’d been staring wide eyed at her. She quickly made her way back to the studio door, “Clearly this was a mistake.”
“Wait.” Flynn grabbed Carrie’s wrist to everyone’s surprise. Including herself apparently, when she almost immediately dropped it. “I don’t know if this is your way of trying to apologize, but apologies usually need to be more than just expecting to skip right to hanging out again.”
Carrie stared into the studio, her jaw clenched, as she quietly thought. “Then consider it an olive branch of sorts.” Then she dashed out of the studio before another word could be said.

AN: JATP Fanfic Masterlist. All right, Carrie is a pain to write for. Especially because I didn’t want to make her full brat if she’s trying to make amends. Another what’s fanon v canon debate with the last names, but the sentences flowed better if Bobby had a last name so I used what his AO3 tag had.
