Hi! I post this based on Anon that requesting Painter Of The Night Q&A after chapter 30. Originally this was posted in Korean, but I don’t speak nor understand Korean, and luckily Lezhin Japan got this Q&A translated, I translated it from their Japan page. I hope I translated it in correctly!
Q. Please tell us about the character profile.

Q. What made you decide to write this story at the first place?
I started drawing it since my friend shown me "Shunga" (kind of erotic art: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shunga_(disambiguation)).
This is a comic with such a long preparation, so there's a lot things that I want to say... in the afterword... (but the completion is still far far away)

Q. What's the meaning of your pen name?
It has something to do with my capricious personality, so I made it my pen name. I was asked if it was an abbreviation for "perverted nerd", it is not (cries)
Note: Byeonduck has meaning "capricious" in Korean
Q. What are you listening while drawing POTN?
I'm listening to theme song of historical drama a lot.
I'm trying to bring out the mood (?) of historical drama as much as possible.
Q. Do you have any plans to write the spin-off?
If I have a chance, yes. Like reverse personality or modern alternate universe.
Q. What's your favorite scene in this story, and what's the most difficult scene to draw?
I really like the 19th story, "Illusion, Kiss" to the title logo in the 20th story. It has perfect timing break, and a lot of people also like it, so I really like that one.
The difficult one was, scenes in the 20th story and 21st story that comes after the logo title. It was smooth until the logo title, but after that... I had a rough times because of the pressure. I revised the draft countless times.
Q. Do you have any plans to make it into a book?
There is, but now it's still on going.
Q. Are we never going to see Jihwa anymore?
He'll coming back soon.
Q. Between Seungho and Inhun, who do you think has the best personality?
So far, I think it's Seungho.
We can find people like Inhun everywhere, but I think people like Seungho are usually put in prison.
Q. What's the most fun character or scene to draw?
It's really fun when I draw scenes that burst emotions, because there's gotta be a story going on so that you can draw such scene. Particularly, after I started this series, I made up my mind that 'I have to draw this!', and now every time I think about it, I get so excited. I really want to show to you soon.
Q. What is the most difficult character to draw?
Inhun.
I knew that drawing eyeglass is really, really, really troublesome...
Everyone got the same hairstyle so I had to draw it, but I have no regrets.

Q. I wonder what's Nakyum's pseudonym when he draws Shunga.
Jung Nakyum. It seems that the surname belongs to the master whom he had a crush with.
Note: the Japanese version and Korean version have names and pseudonym opposites.

Q. Did Nakyum get spoiled by girls when he was a little?
He was really loved by sisters in Kisaeng house.
Q. What is Nakyum's favorite food?
Hangwa.
When he was a little, sometimes the sisters shared it with him so thankfully he had an experience to eat it, the first time he ate it a lot was when Jihwa brought it to him.

Now that his beloved learned sir, Jung Inhun has told Nakyum that he was “born to be a prostitute”, and Deokjae sneered “little whore” at him, and Seungho implied that “it is for this that i keep you by my side” as another approval for Nakyum’s sudden whorish behavior, I believe Nakyum will be more assured that he is, indeed, a mere prostitute to the aristocrat.
While I also believe that deep down Seungho regards Nakyum higher and better than that, if-not a lover, as he is finally showing more consideration and care towards Nakyum’s health and well-being, but I think Seungho is not ready to talk about that yet.
We know that Seungho had been hurt badly in the past by his closest people, since then he built walls around him and uses power play and vicious attitude toward everyone, therefore he can control those around him. So that no one can touch him, moreover hurt him.
(Aw, look, he’s dodging the question and make it a joke instead.)
Nevertheless, Seungho still can’t (or doesn’t want to) express what he feels. Nakyum tends to accept people’s words as they are, without second thoughts. Hence, now poor Nakyum will regard himself as a mere prostitute. Inhun’s words have affected his self-esteem so bad, since he’s the one Nakyum admires the most. After the incident, he’s more like a walking doll rather than a human with passion and fighting spirit, and Deokjae’s and Seungho’s words have probably made it worse.
Let’s see for the update in next Friday. I am really looking forward to the improvement of Nakyum and Seungho’s relationship.

Painter of the Night- Just two steps away from the genre comedy.
It was 3 in the morning and I couldn't sleep, courtesy to that strong black coffee I had hours ago. And I wondered why is it that other yaoi manhwas have chibi forms during comedic scenes, but KS and POTN doesn't. And then it hit me like a truck: ofc, there is comedy. POTN is nothing but comedy.

All the while since I started reading POTN a couple of months back, my first choice of actor to play Seungho have always been Lee Soohyuk. If there’s ever a live action, that is. Teehee! Partly, it was due to Seungho’s crazy eyes in Season 1, especially in Chapter 30, I thought I saw a splitting image of Soohyuk there.
I have never watched the live action of Scholar Who Walks The Night, in which Soohyuk played the antagonist, Gwi, but I have seen enough stills here and there, I just thought he is perfect as Seungho.
However, I have to admit there were also times when I get the vibe of an entirely different character. Have you watched Love In The Moonlight? If so, you will know I am referring to the playful protagonist, Lee Young, played by the brilliant Park Bogum.
I like that Bogum can switch from being the boy-next-door to a psycho killer in no time at all. He’s got the killer gaze but his face is way too angelic/boyish to play Seungho.
I have not given up yet looking for the perfect rl Seungho. Come out, come out, wherever you are!
Anyway, what I meant to say is, I no longer see Soohyuk as Seungho. He is much better fit as Jung Inhun instead!
Just compare their faces side by side, put a pair of glasses on Soohyuk, they are essentially the same person.

I feel like if Seungho does get a honest answer from Nakyum, Seungho might remove Inhun from his “promised” position and ruin any other chances of him being able to move up like he threatened to do if Nakyum disobeyed him. He only kept Inhun around because of Nakyum, so if it’s revealed that Inhun is the reason why Nakyum is acting diffently, then he won’t see a reason to keep Inhun in that government position and just break the promise with no hesitation. Now knowing what kind of person Inhun can be, he might come after poor Nakyum because he’ll know that Nakyum, in someway has a direct connection to him being removed, because Nakyum has told him that everything he’s been doing with Seungho was for his sake. So I wouldn’t put it past Inhun to almost immediately figure it out. I also just think that Seungho will just hate that Inhun still has an influence on Nakyum even though he’s been gone
