hi if anyone is looking for a cutesy little holiday romance movie to watch this hanukkah then i have a recommendation for you!
hanukkah on rye is a hallmark movie about two people from rivaling jewish delis who get set up as pen pals by the matchmaker. the leading man and leading lady are played by Jeremy Jordan and Yael Grobglas respectively, both are jews who do outstanding work in this film. it’s written by Julie Sherman Wolfe, a jew who came to fame writing christmas movies who has finally branched into hanukkah movies with this new film.
this movie has all the campy cheesiness of your typical hallmark romcom with all the charm of being an own voices jewish story that centers around themes of family, tradition, and change
i love this movie. it’s cute and soft. it’s got some adorable tropes that just melted my heart. it’s very you’ve got mail inspired and i loved every second of it! please watch it you won’t regret it!

‘A HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR’ REVIEW
‘A Holiday Spectacular’ was written by Julie Sherman Wolfe and directed by John Putch. The cast featured Ginna Claire Mason, Derek Klena, Eve Plumb, Stephen DeRosa, Ann-Margret, Elle Graper, Bryon Jennings, Carolyn McCormick, Sara Gallos, Dylan S Wallach, the Radio City’s Rockettes and more!
The film sets in present day with an Older Margaret with her granddaughter Lucy (Elle Graper), who is going to audition at the Radio City as Clara in ‘The Nutcracker’. To calm Lucy’s anxiety and fears, Margaret decides to tell her secret, that’s where we suddenly go back to the year of 1958 in Philadelphia. Young Margaret is part of the Philadelphia wealthy high society and is expected to be married into the well known prominent family. But she feels stuck with the wedding plans, so she makes a sudden decision to go to New York City to fulfill her dream to become one of the iconic Radio City’s Rockettes after seeing them on Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade on her television.
Ginna Claire Mason as Margaret is absolutely divine to watch. She’s funny, ambitious, driven and confident. In the film, we see a stark contrast of both worlds, as a wealthy Philadelphia socialite and a Rockette; a loveless engagement to a man who hardly knew anything about her, and picturing the idea of the “perfect” wife would be like once she’s married. Then there’s other world where she is more comfortable and content in the city, surrounded by a group of ladies in a boarding house for the Rockettes and we see that there’s a huge weight off of her shoulders by dancing on stage every night rather than having her head in amounts of stressful planning for the upcoming wedding.
During her time in the city, she meets several people throughout her journey. Sofia; her talkative, bubbly, hilarious roommate and best friend, who is portrayed by Sara Gallos. We can see that she was clearly having a ball playing the part. Alice (Tiffany Denise Hobbs) and Janet (Larissa Schmitz) are among in the supportive sisterhood of the Rockettes. It’s neat to find a little tidbits of the side-characters and their story in the film. And how they all bond with each other on and off-stage due to how much they relate to one to another especially they are going down the same pathway to perform as a Rockette.
There’s several great scenes with Maggie and the Rockettes where we see how hard they work on stage and how precise each dance move has to be with certain timing of the song or how quickly they have to change into another costume by helping each other out after running off the stage. To relate to the previous paragraph, not only we see the main characters bond, we see every single Rockette bond together as sisters on stage especially the kick-line sequences!
Derek Klena who plays John Slater who is an aspiring photographer who has dreams of going to a NYU to become a photo journalist even though he is working at his father’s shop in the city while he is off-duty from the Navy. Derek is so charismatic, charming and determined in this film! Audiences will definitely fall in love with him fast, like how Margaret did in this film.
Throughout the film, we see Maggie and John’s relationship blossoming within days of meeting each other on the streets of New York. They gave each other’s support and inspiration by their respective love for photography and dancing, going for their dreams even though their parents seem to think it’s completely impossible and they want their children to carry on the family’s name and legacy whether it’s business related or money. Derek and Ginna Claire’s chemistry is really lovely to watch on screen. They bounce each off so well with witty one-liners, slow dancing in the snow, and stealing glances throughout the film.
Eve Plumb (Brady Bunch) and Stephen DeRosa (Boardwalk Empire) played John’s adorable but strong-willed parents. Carolyn McCormick (Law and Order) and Bryon Jennings (Lincoln) portrayed as Margaret’s strict and pompous parents. Can’t imagine what imagine was it like to have the actors to have such iconic and well known stars to play as their parents or even as an older Margaret who was portrayed by Ann-Margret (Viva Las Vegas and Bye-Bye Birdie).
We get the taste of glitter and glamour in the film with pretty iconic and stunning costumes on the Rockettes. Not only that, throughout the film, we get the vibes of ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ or ‘Rare Window’ or ‘A Star Is Born’ with the gorgeous, dreamy, bright and stylish 1950’s costumes by Keith Costumes! And the music score in the film was amazing especially during when she’s on stage with Rockettes and poignant/sentimental scenes.
‘A Holiday Spectacular’ is a wonderful movie that give us all the nostalgic and holiday feels upon watching the film. The message in the film was strongly expressed that we should be ourselves, go for what makes you happy and achieve your goals/dreams no matter what anyone says. Be surrounded by the people who know and love you for who are. Julie Sherman Wolfe did a beautiful job with the script and John Putch did a great job with the directing especially it was filmed for a short period of time. ‘A Holiday Spectacular’ had a bit more theatrical feel than the traditional Hallmark movies, even though it still had a few cheesy moments but overall the reviews and tweets from various audience members and critics say that it was really great and heartwarming Christmas film to watch. Grammy Award Winner Lisa Loeb Brings Both Her Talent and Voice to The Screen with Her Song “Light”
STUDIO CITY, CA – November 9, 2022 – Jeremy Jordan (“Supergirl,” “Mix Up in the Mediterranean”) and Yael Grobglas (“Jane the Virgin,” “The Selection”) and Grammy Award- winner Lisa Loeb (“Robot Chicken”) star in “Hanukkah on Rye,” a new, original movie premiering Sunday, December 18 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel as part of the network’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” programming event.
Molly (Grobglas) is poised to become the fourth generation of her family to run Gilbert’s Deli on the Lower East Side of New York City. Now, almost 100 years later, Gilbert’s is the last old-school Jewish deli standing...and it’s getting harder and harder to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Jacob’s (Jordan) family are “deli royalty” in Southern California and have a completely different way of doing business. Jacob wants to make his own mark in the deli world and to do that, he’s spearheading the expansion of Leven’s to New York City just blocks away from Gilbert’s. A couple weeks before the first night of Hanukkah, Jacob’s “bubby” (grandmother) gives Jacob an early Hanukkah gift: she’s signed him up with an infamous matchmaker. Molly’s bubby has the same idea. According to the rules, Jacob and Molly must write handwritten letters under assumed names to get to know each other. As they begin to write to each other under their pseudonyms of Beth and David, they begin to fall for each other. At the same time, Jacob has come to New York to close the deal for the new Leven’s location, and Molly and Jacob meet in real life, and neither is aware they know each other as Beth and David through their letters. There’s an instant romantic connection between them over Hanukkah week until Molly learns Jacob’s identity and realizes he could potentially put her family’s deli out of business. Molly is torn between “David,” who she’s started to fall for thanks to his letters, and Jacob, who she can’t stop being attracted to despite their conflicts. In the end, will Molly and Jacob put their differences aside and get their own Hanukkah miracle?

The series is described as such:

6 Things to Love About Wolf Point, MT
The friendly city of Wolf Point, MT, in Roosevelt County, is in the northeastern part of Montana, where Wolf Creek flows into the Missouri River. It was once a trading post that developed into a cow town. Today it is a close-knit community of just under 3000 citizens steeped in culture, tradition, and old-world values.
1. The Wild Horse Stampede
The Wild Horse Stampede, proudly nicknamed the Grandaddy of Montana rodeo, is the oldest rodeo in Montana. Since the first cowboys saddled up on the second weekend in July 1915, it is still held on the same date every year. The rodeo provides spectators with a unique peek into the northeastern Montana culture and lifestyle based on over a century of traditions.
According to the local rodeo cowboys and the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, ranked number one in winnings, rodeo stock, hospitality, and organization. Here you will see fearless cowboys steer roping, bronc riding, and wild horse racing in true Montana tradition.
2. Wolf Point Bridge
In the years before 1930, there was no ferry service to cross the Missouri River. In 1926, brothers James and Rolla Cusker tragically died crossing the river on the ice after a basketball game. That same year Major R.J. Moore and W.L. “Bill” Young, a Roosevelt County Commissioner, met with the State Highway Commission for a highway and a bridge to be built across the river.
On July 9, 1930, the bridge was opened to traffic during a dedication ceremony. The ceremony was attended by over 15,000 people from all over the northeast.
3. The Historical Society Museum
The museum tells the stories of the men and women who made the city great through fascinating displays of antiques and heirlooms of settlers and artifacts of Indian culture. Here you can see Sherman T. Cogswell’s 1910 National cash register and two 1890 Edison phonographs. There is an extensive collection of arrowheads, a beautiful 1913 oak dresser, and a Bible published in 1915.
The museum also features a life-size statue of cowboy artist Charles M. Russell, created by Archie Graber, the high school art teacher. He made the statue for a Hall of Fame contest in Washington, DC, and his impressive artwork was placed second in the country.
4. The Fort Peck Indian Reservation
This is the second-largest reservation in Montana. Here the rich culture and traditions of the Assiniboine and Sioux nations thrive through ancestral customs, storytelling, dancing, drumming, traditional cuisine, and powwows held throughout the summer months. The reservation boasts fascinating artifacts and places of historical significance, such as sacred sites, tipi rings, and buffalo jumps.
5. The Love of Trees
The city first received designation as a Tree City USA in 2004 and was again selected in 2006. The city tirelessly works and applies for recertification each year. An inventory of all the trees was recently completed. The location, type, and condition of each tree were recorded.
6. Outstanding Hospitality
The city received Montana SuperHost Certified Community designation for the excellent services offered to visitors. The city provides ongoing service training and ensures that the visitors center continues with outstanding services and tourist information.

STUDIO CITY, CA – August 3, 2023 – There may be a romance replay when a single mother and her college sweetheart, a pro-football player sidelined by injury, cross paths when Pascale Hutton (“When Calls the Heart,” “You Had Me at Aloha”) and Ryan Paevey (“A Fabled Holiday,” “Two Tickets to Paradise”) star in “Fourth Down and Love,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, September 9 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel as part of the network’s annual Fall into Love programming event.
Erin Allen (Hutton) is a single mother to her football-loving 12-year-old daughter, Kiera (Sophia Powers, “Unexpected Grace”), who plays in the town’s junior flag football league. At Keira’s football practice, Erin runs into the coach’s brother and professional football player, Mike Hanson (Paevey). Erin and Mike are blindsided – they were college sweethearts. Mike is visiting his brother, Jimmy (Dan Payne, “Outrunners”), while healing from a football injury that diminishes his chances of achieving his dream of finally getting a championship ring. When Jimmy gets the call to coach the high school team, Mike steps up as the flag football coach. As Erin and Mike spend time together, old sparks are rekindled despite Erin’s hesitance. Right before the championship game, Mike receives good news but also an unsettling truth while Erin learns to go after what she wants – and they both learn to follow their hearts.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell laughed Tuesday when asked whether he expects Congress to pass coronavirus relief legislation by the end of next week, when enhanced unemployment benefits are set to expire for around 30 million Americans who were thrown out of work by the pandemic-induced economic crisis.

"No," McConnell said after letting out what Politico reporter Jake Sherman, who posed the question, described as a "big laugh."
The $600-per-week increase in unemployment benefits provided under the CARES Act have served as both a lifeline for tens of millions of laid-off Americans and a significant cushion for the U.S. economy.
For weeks, economists and lawmakers have warned that letting the benefits lapse, even for a short period of time, could have devastating effects on those close to the brink of financial ruin. According to Census Bureau data, more than 13 million Americans who live in rental housing were behind on rent payments as of July 7.
"I have a bill to renew supercharged unemployment benefits until this crisis is over so families can continue to pay rent and buy groceries," Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) tweeted Tuesday. "Senate Republicans have had every opportunity to pass it and have refused to do so."
While the enhanced unemployment benefits officially expire on July 31—a Friday—in effect the $600 weekly payments are set to end on either Saturday, July 25 or Sunday, July 26, the days states will send out the last boosted checks.
"Thirty million workers won't be able to pay rent on August 1st and McConnell is laughing," said Wyden spokesperson Ashley Schapitl.
Bobby Kogan, a mathematician for the Senate Budget Committee, tweeted that "there is no excuse" for allowing the enhanced benefits expire.
"We had months to get this done, and the House passed its bill back in May," wrote Kogan. "Tens of millions of people will be harmed because of the cavalier inaction of Senate Republicans."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) laughed Tuesday when a CNN reporter asked whether Congress would be able to reach a deal on coronavirus relief legislation by the end of this week—an even more daunting timeline than the one put to McConnell given the deep divisions roiling Senate Republicans and the White House, not to mention fundamental disagreements between the GOP and their Democratic counterparts.
"The end of the week? You mean the month," Pelosi responded. "I'm hoping for the end of the month."
In May, the Democrat-controlled House passed legislation that proposes extending the $600-per-week boost in unemployment insurance (UI) through January of next year.
In an interview Tuesday evening with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Pelosi said Republicans "have had plenty of time to be thinking about this and this delay is unnecessary because, by the end of July, unemployment benefits will expire... a moratorium on evictions will expire—many things will expire that are addressed in our legislation."
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that negotiations over the relief bill are "likely to spill into August," leaving both chambers with little time to pass legislation before summer recess. Pelosi said last week that she would "absolutely" be willing to cancel recess to pass relief legislation; McConnell has not said the same.
"Republicans do appear to be gravitating toward a proposal on what to do about the expiring unemployment benefits," the Post reported. "Democrats have proposed extending those benefits through January, but the White House and some Republicans now want to cut the extra benefits to about $200 per week. Democrats haven't agreed to this, however."
During a private meeting on Monday, according to the Post, "Trump criticized the enhanced unemployment benefit, saying it never should have been agreed to in the first place." Trump administration officials and Republican lawmakers have repeatedly characterized the boosted unemployment payments as "disincentives" to work.
Ernie Tedeschi, a former Treasury Department economist, noted in a series of tweets Tuesday that contrary to the narrative pushed by the GOP and the White House, "there's no evidence in the data that emergency UI has been a net drag on the labor market so far."
Allowing the benefits to expire, warned Tedeschi, "would be devastating to individual families, as well as to regional economies in aggregate."
